Danny in human age is an adult. He was a 24 years old adult that only recently started working in the Arospace Department of Wayne Enterprise. Human wise he was by all means an adult, with the paper trail to support it.

The only problem was. His ghost form.

Despite his human side having aged just fine and giving him a fine, build like a Brickhouse, body that came close to Dan's hulking ghost form. His ghost side was still stuck on looking like his fourteen years old self, small and build like a twig. Pandora, Frostbite and Clockwork had tried teaching him how to manipulate his own ectoplasm so he can finally adjust his ghost looks. But so far... that was a skill he has yet to master successfully.

Now, usually, that wouldn't be a problem. But considering he only recently found out two of his bosses also worked with the Justice League who happened to know him as Phantom, it spelled problems.

Because the Justice League was convinced he was a forever 14 years old dead ghost hero who is using one of his many powers to appear like a human adult. He only went human on them like twice for undercover missions. He saw no problem in them knowing about his human half. Ancients all his rogues and the entirety of the Infinite Realms knew of it already anyway.

But you make one to many jokes about deadly situations or act just a bit to childish one to many times with them and you are seen as child forever! Go figure why Danny had so many problems with authority figures is whole life.

They were the once thinking his human half was just another power! He never said it was!

And now here he was, sitting in the office of one of his bosses. Faced with the two of them trying to clear up the misunderstanding of a decade. Ancients they are convinced his paper trail is fake just because Phantom had Tucker on his team. A team that had already established their talents years ago, when they worked with the JL for the first time.

Their little interactions in atsv were adorable especially the little salute he gave her.

or the fight between miles and Miguel ☹️ even tho I love him (Miguel) and understand why he did that and his motives, I’ll always feel so bad for miles. I feel like it would even be worse because instead of having a 6’9 roughly judged 310 pounds of muscle man chasing after you and pinning you down, there’s a ten ton dragon hellbent on having your dad die for the sake of the canon, claws, wings, VENOM/FIREBREATHING. It’s pretty much game over at that point. Ofc miles is a resourceful amazing wonderful intelligent human so I think he’d be able to reason with him. Besides, even then I kinda doubt Miguel would want to kill a kid, even if they’re a human. Nurturing instincts don’t go away after ur daughter dies 😋! Actually Miguel might even nom miles in an effort to keep him from messing up the canon :( can you imagine being so so terrified of this huge creature and getting nommed and you don’t know you’re safe and you’re panicking and —

The hurt and comfort is strong here :o. And the guilt. So much guilt. Once they work out their issues (there are so so so many poor dudes) I’m sure they’ll be besties. But that’s for human miles au

dragon miles would definitely get the short end of the stick. Even if he’s a hatchling (kind of, he’s in that odd stage between adult and adolescent but on the younger side) he’s still a whole lot more durable than if he’s a human. Which means that Miguel won’t be nearly as cautious handling him physically. Ouch. Miguel genuinely wants to protect miles in the movie but does it in the worst way possible. That would probably transfer over to this universe too.

But still because I absolutely LIVE for found family, I want to imagine they work through their problems in a long and very very non linear path that has setbacks and leaps forward and minor changes and everything because I love all of these characters sm and without depth they don’t feel like people. Plus imagining sleepy spider kids/dragons stumbling into Miguel’s section of the cave system/lair and deciding to take a quick nap there because it feels safe and waking up with Miguel curled loosely around them, wing slightly shielding them from the chilly drafts and hsjskskdjskj they have my heart. (Miguel will deny it later.)

or peter b taking the human kids out flying to let them feel at least a little what it’s like to taste the sky while Miguel lurks in the background anxiously, crimson eyes tense just in case peter accidentally drops one of them. Not that he would, he may be goofy but he’s most definitely not stupid.

I can imagine Miguel trying his hardest to stop some of the kids from doing things that he thinks is wayyy too dangerous for them and just giving up and tucking them away in his brooding pouch. If they won’t listen to his very very valid concerns then he’ll just have to make sure they don’t go anywhere >:(. Plus it’s warm and safe and even though Miguel will never admit it, he feels calmer if they’re there, protected completely bc he’ll never let anything hurt them. At least not while they’re nestled in one of the literal safest places in the world. I can’t imagine anyone would have an easy time getting to them when there’s a very protective and vengeful dragon guarding his precious brood.

and I haven’t even really gotten into the other characters either :( especially exploring the relationship between Jess and Gwen or Hobie and miles/gwen and pav but I feel like I’m writing too much so I’ll end it here. Ever wonder... If... Lucifer popped out another one? Like what he did to Satan, popping out a small ball of anger (I refuse to believe he was born as an adult) ....... And this time let's say it's a GIRL, like y'know that stereotype that the first born daughter ALWAYS looks like the father . She has vague memories from Luci BUT the twist is that those CHILDREN who were FROM Lucifer the abilities they get come from directly to what Luci was angry abt (it doesn't make sense to me somehow) like just a bit, I have no idea what to put of what he was angry abt this time (your choice) although most abilities or powers come from luci obvi. And let's just say she was separated and somehow isekaid to another world which the time is at least 100x slower, in that time she s 15 but in Devildom she's 1500. So she learns new magic and is now the 4th born and Satan is 5th. Satan is specifically so happy abt this like he's no more Lucifer's shadow bc someone (aka sister) is far more similar to him, looks, interests, pets (but it's a giant beast cat), hobbies, etc. Although she just treat it as like father-daughter similarities

Power wise I think she wouldn’t be an avatar of anything, soley because she would so much like Lucifer that it would have to be Pride, and he’s already got that. But I do think it would be like a monarch kinda system. The brothers aren’t immortal but they do live for a very long time so I think that whenever Lucifer dies, his daughter would become the new Avatar of Pride

She would be pretty powerful for a 15 year old, hell she’s more powerful than 4 of her uncles, and her power would only grow. I imagine that by the time it was her turn to be the new Avatar of Pride that she could even surpass Lord Diavolo in power if it really came down to it

However that is only once she gets back to the Devildom and starts learning how to handle all of it

I think she would get raised in the human realm for the first 15 years of her life. Or at least until she’s old enough to fully grasp everything that’s going on. It would be similar to mammons situation. Lucifer knew that he couldn’t deal with raising another child at the time so he would hand her off to some trusted witches to raise her. He would pay the child support and occasionally watch her from the sidelines

But he is so excited when she gets summoned back to the Devildom. I mean the kid is hella confused but Dadcifer is all excited. Of course he won’t show it, pride and all, but Dia can tell

I imagine that she would become a part of the exchange program. Either Dia knew about the kid and made it a surprise to reunite Lucifer with his long lost daughter or he had no idea about the kid and just thought she showed great potential and would make a good addition to the program

ur so right abt the rewind theory tho. The villains are supposed to come to terms with their past selves, not BECOME them. They need to heal who they are in the present, rewinding them to the past would just be a way to forget everything that has happened to them

Yeah, there are so many issues with that ending. And just to be clear, I’m super not worried about it happening. At all, there’s nothing suggesting it’s gonna happen. I’ll just list my main reasons for why I am pretty much 0% worried about this ending happening:

Tomura’s arc is literally about lack of agency. There is not a single moment in this manga where he is free from parental/parental figure influence. Not one. And by Japan’s laws, he’s an adult. A young one of course, and many people in their early 20s have no clue what to do with their lives, but that’s THE time to figure it out. And Shigaraki is so far from that maturity level it’s not even funny. He’s extremely child-coded and coddled by Ujiko and AFO on purpose, and it’s to challenge his character to grow up. That is the point of child-coding. It’s not to set them up to literally be reverted back into a child. Turning him back into a child takes away his agency, again. There is no growth there for his character, and defeats L I T E R A L L Y everything that has happened before.

The other really big issue with that is….this thing with Tomura and AFO—it’s a really dark metaphor. I’m not gonna say it because I shouldn’t have to, because it’s incredibly obvious what it’s alluding to. It’s disturbing, it’s uncomfortable, it’s supposed to be. And turning him back into a child after breaking free from THAT is just, gross imo.

Shigaraki has an identity crisis to solve. It was asked during the S&S fight, is he AFO, Tomura, or Shimura even? It’s kind of dumb to let the story make that decision for him by just turning him into 5 year old Tenko. He can be Tenko at 21 years old.

Touya—again, kind of the same issue with Tomura. Agency. Yes Touya operates as a lone wolf a lot, makes his own decisions—but does he really? Everything he does is to get his dad’s attention. His father. It’s completely normal to want your parent to pay attention to you, that is how we as human beings grow up. So for Touya to grow up, he needs that validation from his dad. And then he can finally be free of his dad’s influence. Whether people like that or not, that is pretty heavily indicated by his arc that that is where we are going. Validation from father—> growing into adulthood and stepping into his current age. It ALSO literally makes zero sense to rewind him to a child because he missed 3 years of his childhood through a coma. His maturity level is pretty far behind, and he’s supposed to develop into his current age, not just get a rewind button. Again, negates everything that’s happened before hand.

The child-self with Toga is there in her backstory, but we haven’t seen it used symbolically yet. But even if we do, it hasn’t been used to the same extent as Touya and Shigaraki. So rewinding her feels prematurely decided. Also, don’t forget Toga is a high schooler by age. She’s still a kid. So what, we just make her a younger kid? Why not just…let her grow up.

If “rewinding to a child” is the answer to the LOV….then what, we rewind Spinner and Compress too? Compress isn’t portrayed as immature and behind on growth. He refers to himself as if he’s a grandpa. See the difference between him (32) and Twice (30), they’re not that far apart in age but they’re very different maturity wise. So why in the hell would Compress go back to being a kid? I mean, if rewinding is the answer then it should apply to all of them right? But it can’t, because it makes no sense. Same with Spinner. I do think we’re about to get more details in his past soon, but even he isn’t portrayed as someone super behind on maturity like Touya and Shigaraki. Spinner has serious identity issues and self-worth issues, but I wouldn’t say it’s explicitly portrayed as being a lack-of-maturity issue. It’s a result of his upbringing and perhaps some immaturity still. But definitely not to the same extent as Touya and Shigaraki.

Turning them into kids completely removes the point of a redemption arc, a redemptive act in their part. Which is so obviously set up it’s not even funny (cue Aoyama and Stain for already established examples)

The biggest most clear cut reason, is that it’s already incredibly obvious why the kid selves are used. It’s used with Shouto, Bakugo, and Midoriya. We gonna rewind them too? Just because they’re shown as 5 year olds? It doesn’t apply, it doesn’t make sense.

To finish this off, there is clear set up for how the LOV will be redeemed and accepted, and given the typical shonen get-out-of-jail-free-card at the end. None of the set up involves turning them back into helpless kids. It’s so unnecessary. I hate it and literally if it so much as even touches on the idea, I’m done lol. But I really am 0% worried about it.

i was reading the translation of lestat screaming after losing at chess to claudia and it surprised me how a significant number of interpretations were louis is a bad parent for coddling claudia. should've let lestat beat her. those were not the exact words but the implication.

i think ppl dont get how louis was a bad parent to claudia in the first place. its not 'coddling' [LOL] so much as it is the disproportionate level of emotional dependence louis has on claudia after a certain point but to an extent even in the nature of her creation.. claudia was created to assuage the losses of multiple aspects of louis's 'humanity'. the loss of his wealth, the loss of his sister, the loss of his ability to have children [which he would never be able to have as a gay black male anyways b4 the vamp shit]. shes created as a means for lestat also, to draw louis back into his life, bc remember, right before louis found claudia, lestat was like lets make this race riot our anniversary n louis told lestat the same thing nick&armand told les in tvl i think? - we wont work, u gone forever be alone. - n ran out. to be a 'bring back our love' child + also someone else's tether to the abstract meaning of 'humanity' is a pretty heavy bit of expectations to put on the shoulders of a young black girl who lost her mom at birth n spent her childhood and adolescence being abandoned by her dad & being abused by her aunt. it follows a pretty troubling pattern louis has with poor black women in his life [miss lily being louis's confidante but having no choice to refuse louis, her trick]. but fans of no color & their allies in thinking dont even see that pattern in the first place cuz they care more about exploring annie r u ok n npc honkey #45 characters than exploring the arcs of fictional bw.

lestat losing the game of chess is symbolic of his loss of influence over claudia [which is ironic cuz show wise he never wanted claudia at first lol] & the implications claudia's independence has for his relationship with louis. claudia herself no longer wants to be a child, someone else's daughter, and wants to equalize the relationship by making them all siblings, but neither lestat or louis want to be brothers to eachother [aint no fun when the rabbit got the gun lol].

lestat himself has an exceptionally brutal reference for parenting. im sure louis himself was raised off corporeal punishment too, hell i was raised off that as well, but short of his psychotic chokedown of clauds in ep7, i cant think of a time where louis actively thought or said he wanted to put hands on claudia to 'set her straight' the same way lestat was. we know in our real lives corporal punishment is a tactic of control + abuse, and this becomes even more prominent if its a white man beating his adult black child [bc claudia is in her 30s here, shes not a child anymore & doesnt want to be]. rl fans taking lestat's bitching bout louis spoiling claudia as facts & not les being pissy that his 30 year old child beat him at a chess match is funny as fuck tho no lie

Regarding Corrin being capable of marrying the second gen characters, including the ones that are heavily implied to be relatively young, i never saw too much of an issue with it; the main issues with those kinds of relationships in the real world are the fact that children aren't considered mature enough to understand how important of a decision choosing someone to spend the rest of your life with is, along with it being very easy to manipulate them into doing so unwittingly.

That… isn't the case for the likes of Midori, Percy and Kiragi tho. As much as they act childlike, one of them is an accomplished herbalist with a ton of knowledge on medicine and how to use them properly, another one managed to not only tame a wyvern but learn how to fight proficiently while riding it, presumably even being self-taught due to Arthur being one of the parents that didn't visit their kids's deeprealm very often, implying he has high levels of patience and intelligence to pull all that off, and the last one is a phenomenal hunter, borderline ninja, and excellent archer, being able to expertly track targets and hide himself, showing high levels of wit.

All those details just seem to imply that these specific children, at the very least, are extremely intelligent and wise, to the point of at least knowing that a relationship is serious business and being hard to manipulate about it (which isn't what Corrin does but i can see people seeing it that way); humans in Nohrshido are already blatantly wired differently from the ones in real life, given the amount of battles they partake in without any mental scars to show for it, including the “children” i just mentioned.

Is there truly anthing particularly bad about Corrin marrying someone who, for all intents and purposes, IS an adult capable of making their own choices and decisions, such as Midori, Kiragi or Percy? Or is this just another case of people seeing something that would be disagreaable in our world, not bothering to think about whether or not there are cultural differences that would make it more acceptable in a fictional one (such as hyper-competent children that fight in wars without any baggage from it, implying levels of emotional maturity hardly found even in veterans in the real world, meaning that them having sex wouldn't even be an issue due to their lacking the immaturity and/or naivete that causes those kinds of relationships to be immensely problematic in the real world), and trying to use that as criticisms towards the game?

Just food for thought.

(Also lol at the twitter user calling Elise 13 and people in the comments of that tweet claiming Mozu's the same age. Not only is Elise 15 at the youngest and if you want Sakura's backstory to no longer make sense, since she remembers Corrin being kidnapped and people typically only remember stuff from when they were 3 and older, meaning both of them should logically be 18+, but Mozu is directly stated in her solo ending to single-handedly rebuild her village to the point where it prospers; doesn't sound like something a child would be able to do, or at least not one that isn't intelligent enough to be able to reasonably consent to marriage and sex. The fact that they tried to use her appearance to claim her being a child is hysterical too, not only because of anime artstyle bullshit making it very hard to tell what ages characters are supposed to be, especially in Fire Emblem, but again, Sakura and Elise, who should be 18+ at the youngest, look like children. Do they not know that midgets and/or young-looking adults exist, or is that just conveniently forgotten about when the time comes to accuse Fates of horrific shit it didn't actually do?)

I think it's a weird gray area, where people have trouble grasping the kind of dichotomy between "physical appearance" and "actual maturity". Tbh, for all intents and purposes, I think Percy, Midori and maaaaybe Kiragi are meant to be seen as younger, just really talented all the same. At the end of the day tho, it's mainly to fill the Loli/Shota con checklist, and I doubt that most people really care enough to make a moral statement about one entry in a 30 year old game series.

I actually did the worst on my open book popgen exam lol (not that it mattered anyway).  I’m in a good place grade-wise, I think.

You know, all of these programs conveniently leave out the fact that not only do you have to submit a personal statement, but you have to also write four, five, six other little essays on random (they’re related) topics.  Like,,, HUH.  I just thought I’d pop in with a quick “boy howdy I wanna be a scientist, a woman in stem, a personified bunsen burner” and then be met with a round of applause and a stipend but apparently that’s not enough these days.

Also some of my apps are asking about my sexuality and that was definitely not a thing four years ago and like idk I know some ace folk feel like they fit in the queer community and that’s totally fine and I love my little hahaheehee’s on acetok but putting it in writing (yes, I recognize the irony considering the nature of this blog)???  FIRST of all I don’t know if this is real or if it’s purity culture-induced guilt.  I could get married and it all falls away and suddenly you’ve got a sexual being on your hands (one in need of therapy tho bc I’ve heard it’s a difficult switch to make).  SECOND what if it changes.  I dunno I just.. there is no truly permanent sense of self and.. ugh.  I mean I could say I’m aro/ace and they’ll be like “wow so she won’t be distracted by boys she’s a safe bet” but what they don’t know is that I’ll be distracted by everything else.

On a lighter note, listen.  I get it, LMM maybe wasn’t at all what we were expecting from Hermes.  I love the jokes, I think they’re silly because, ultimately, that man is a dork.  A theatre kid (who makes pretty bangin music ngl).  All adult theatre kids deserve ridicule.  No exceptions.  Obviously I want him to do well because I want the show to be good and I trust Rick.  I love the silly jokes, but I feel a little bad bc we’re circling back to that time on tiktok when Hamilton had just been released on D+ and everyone was watching it and making fun of the guy even though he wasn’t doing anything except loving being on stage.

And, breaking news, it turns out that I may not get into that education class after all which kind of sucks.  I have to wait until the start of next semester to see if the section has seats available at which point anyone will be able to register.  Until then, I’m registered for a greek art class in its place.

Lastly, it’s surprisingly easy to slip into supporting eugenics and I blame this on the fact that geneticists find eugenics to be so abhorrent and such an uncomfortable part of the discipline’s history that it’s rarely actually discussed or taught.  And this is the same problem with minimizing slavery or the holocaust or the treatment of indigenous Americans.  Those who do not learn and critically consider history are doomed to repeat it.  Scientists have an ethical responsibility to go beyond providing data.  They must nip misinterpretations in the bud by addressing the context of their work.  We read an article (more like a saga of articles, it was the scientific equivalent of a fight over twitter) in popgen which got me completely wired by the way that it used eugenics rhetoric without addressing that issue explicitly, and that feels so much more irresponsible than saying your a eugenics advocate outright (my prof had to assure me that the author was not, in fact, a eugenics guy).  I just... science doesn’t exist in a vacuum, and we live in an age where information is readily available to any person at any time.  Scientists need to keep that in mind and consider the social ramifications of their work, especially if it relates to humans.  Neutral science does not exist!!  We’re all influenced by the context in which we are raised!!  Anyway, back to the original point, eugenics should be taught sensitively in science classes so that people understand a) how to detect the warning signs of a budding eugenics-based argument and b) why they’re wrong to begin with.  Only then can we civilly discuss issues like how to mitigate the problems of the (fairly theoretical to begin with) human genetic load or whatever.

Today I’m thankful for the walks promenades I took last night and tonight!!  It was decently warm and I just needed to blow off some steam (we’re a mere week into daylight savings and I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate how sunset starts at 2 pm I hate how I feel down more often now).  Plus CRC3E38 was released yesterday and I tore through that thing on my walks.  I’m thankful that there’s a big open area on campus where people often frequent so I feel safe walking at night.  I’m thankful that I, a patron of the arts, went to see an (free) a capella show tonight, a lovely and uniquely collegiate experience.  I’m thankful that my cello-friend liked my arrangement draft!!  Finally, I’m thankful that I know people who will straight up tell me who the red flags in my field of choice are because I was definitely unknowingly flying close to one.

Hm..... Khr au idea.

So basically : Hayato gets adopted/taken in by Squalo after he runs away. I think it'd be funny if they were related (same hair color + they're both INSANELY devoted). Squalo in this au is Hayato's uncle :)

It's just Squalo hearing about his sister's baby running away from his home and going not on my watch :) and tracking Hayato down REAL fast (Hayato spends like one or two weeks on the streets).

It's kind of a difficult situation at first because Squalo is like.... Eight years older than Hayato, and Hayato ran away at what, eight? Ten? So Squalo would have been sixteen or eighteen and that's.... Really young to suddenly be responsible for a whole ass kid. Also the Varia's lifestyle is not something I think stable..... But Hayato and Squalo are both very clever people and they make it work. They're basically brothers :)

The plot is a bit nebulous but basically it's mostly Hayato growing up with Squalo as a big brother. He gets to see Squalo meeting Xanxus and bonding with him (he thinks it's very funny how smitten his brother is. Squalo will laugh at him for that later). The plot part, where he still gets to meet Tsuna, comes from Xanxus, indirectly. Thing is. Xanxus being imprisoned in ice.... It had an effect on Squalo. From a purely mental standpoint, knowing the person you've literally sworn your life to, the literal love of your life, is encased in ice and you can't do anything to get them out must be maddening. From a flames standpoint, being separated from your sky like that cannot be healthy. Hayato sees Squalo getting worse and worse, mental health wise, and worries. Both in a logical "the adult I'm living with and depending on is having issues" way and in a emotional "my brother is getting worse and I'm worried he'll hurt himself :(" way. Hayato is not and never has been worried about his brother hurting him. He's worried about Squalo hurting himself.

So when he hears about a Vongola heir in Japan (well first of all it stings. This guy is heir only because Xanxus, his brother's sky, is imprisoned. That's not nice)... He goes to meet them, to aks for a favor. Maybe this heir can talk to the ninth? Maybe this heir can ask the ninth to release Xanxus? Hayato is going full manipulation mode here, "gain their favor by being useful before asking for their help" kind.

(it works faster than anticipated. Hayato also gets himself a sky in the process) (Tsuna is very very happy to ask the ninth to free Xanxus. Both because that's the decent human thing to do, and because Xanxus being free means Tsuna is no longer the Vongola heir!)

Snippets that I wasn't able to include in the plot :

Hayato doesn't have a primary flame. He learned about his flames with all the varia, so he uses all his flames in equal measure. It's rather comical when Tsuna's sky gets confused as to which guardian Hayato is.

Hayato is pretty good with a sword, because come on, Squalo is his brother. Still likes bombs better tho.

Hayato really likes Xanxus. Xanxus is a bastard just like Hayato but he's so strong! He's proof that bastards can be great too! Also he's very powerful and cool. And he makes explosions! Hayato always liked explosions. Also he makes Squalo really happy and that's a non inconsequential thing for Hayato.

The Varia officers are Hayato's family too :) he and Bel have this sorta sibling rivalry. They're both geniuses and they get each other but they looove to annoy each other. In a "nobody else gets to bully him" way.

Hayato is way softer than Canon when he meets Tsuna. Both because he has less mental issues due to having a loving and stable (stable is debatable, they're all some kind of insane) family, and because he's here to ask a favor so better be polite....

Hayato goes to therapy for his childhood trauma. His relationship with music got way better, and there's a piano in his and Squalo's home. He's learning to play the violin when he meets Tsuna.

His relationship with Bianchi is uh.... They're trying. Squalo and the Varia are pretty protective of Hayato but they get that Bianchi didn't know what she was doing. Their relationship is tentative, but they're both trying.

Hayato and Shamal meet sometimes because Hayato is interested in the uses of flames in medicine and he likes Shamal and Shamal is way more attached to Hayato than he looks. Shamal's basically his uncle (Squalo wasn't expecting that Shamal would subtly mother-hen him too. Hayato thinks it's funny)

Hayato managed to befriend Skull all on his own. It's with him that he learned how to use his cloud flames actually. Skull, being an ex-civilian, is unburdened by the prejudices that mafia people have about flames, and uses them however he wants. It's really useful for Hayato.

Hayato befriending Skull causes Mammon and Skull to reconnect. This has the unforeseen effect of making Skull and Xanxus meet... And bond as Cloud guardian and Sky. Very unexpected, but nobody's complaining.

Kid Hayato absolutely played matchmaker to Xanxus and Squalo. They were both aware of it and quietly amused by it.

Sakura Analysis LET"S GET IT

First off, I want to note here that Sakura's KR title is VERY interesting. Because all the other titles relate directly to the MCs inner-demons.

Ikki -- that he must revisit his vices (continually) until he accepts both them and himself;

Daiji -- Being forced to learn how to "LIVE" with the more "EVIL" aspects of his personality. Aka how Daiji has to find the middle ground for: Anger (Madness) vs Insecurity (Precious), his feelings of Hopeless-ness vs. His desire to be Trusted (Trust Us), and of course Justice vs. Darkness

Demons -- Self-sacrifice (Hiromi) (Junpei) -- prolly something else for Olteca idk

Vail - The 'veil' that truth hides behind when its too hard to accept.

BUT SAKURA???

She's the only one who has a person's NAME as part of her title. So why?? What makes her different from the others? What does this difference mean and what does 'Jeanne even REPRESENT?' (Let's get into it >:DD )

Title: Kamen Rider Jeanne

Meaning: Depends on the 'Jeanne' in question here. But my guess? Jeanne D'arc, aka Joan of Arc.

History-wise, Joan of Arc is a famous female french martyr.

There was a war going on (Between France and. England. This was during the Hundred Years War during the 1400s) and she became a heroine that inspired the masses through her continuous victories at war. And is still revered to this day.

1) She was a teenager. Actually the exact same age as Sakura is now. (18).

(interesting that she’s a known martyr….rlly…the Igarashi’s….)

Sakura is still growing up. She's still in high school --and is not yet out-out in the adult world --->likewise the first time Jeanne experienced “real life” was when she enlisted in the war

For the above screenshot, Sakura blows up at Ikki because this is like the first time she's had to learn/see her father (ikki) as someone human. (That they aren't superman, yknow?)

(Goes to show just how much more she has to mature.)

So the fact that her name is Kamen Rider Jeanne ALSO tells the audience that Sakura is a kid — Having a famous heroine as part of your title?

Y’know (ngl) kinda seems like when a teen chooses a fantasy fiction role model as their OC or something.

Except it’s not fantasy. Jeanne D'arc is a real figure. And likewise -- 'Jeanne' is also very quickly becoming real life for Sakura.

Interesting Aside here on religion:

Jeanne began to hear voices at like 13 or 14, and eventually at around 18 she decided to go and ask for an army to lead into battle because 'God told her to.' (And so she did.)

So-- how does this relate to Sakura's inner demon?

Well, Lovekov — is a SNAKE 🐍. And snakes are mostly used to represent the bad, the deceitful, and evil. This is because of how the Devil used a snake as its disguise (in the Bible) in order to try and convince Eve to eat a fruit from the One Forbidden Tree --

A fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil

(Otherwise known as the Tree of Life.)

Now pay VERY close attention to these quotes -- with Sakura and the Igarashi's in the back of your mind as you do so

It is FASCINATING to me that this takes place in chapter THREE and Sakura is the 3rd born sibling.

See, yeah Sakura is a teenager, a "child" but she's not a baby. She knows what "good" and "evil" are. Except that's just it -- her view of Good and Evil as a binary -- just black and white, legit the dictionary definition of the terms. This is a viewpoint that needed to change.

And these changes began from the moment Kamen Riders entered her life, even more so once she became one. Prior to this, Sakura was 'Ignorant' to the ways of the world.

And the harsh realities "of Life."

The snake convinced Eve to eat from what tree again? The tree of life. And to even turn into Jeanne, Sakura had to accept herself and her vulnerabilities. She had to 'open her eyes' to what was in front of her. But once she did take that step?

Well. There was no turning back. And now she has to deal with The Fall. Now she has to deal with Sin.

One of the big things Sakura is learning about is deceit --

Notice how above although she says "Why can't everyone just be honest," She still lies to everyone else about Weekend up until THEY reveal themselves and she has no choice LOL.

Legit in episode 26 Sakura outright lies to Ikki when he asks where she's going. This shows her....idk her? 'growth'? LMAO.

Dissecting Red Spider Arc-The arc that non shipper find it disturbingly (For those who mind) Shippy

I’ve been watching gintama for the past couple of weeks. And since lately I encounter sleeping problem, lets turn this energy to talk about one of my favorite arc. The controversial arc that invite polarized opinion among Gintama fans.

For  Tsukuyo fans, Red spider is a certain favorite together with Yoshiwara in flame and Courtesan of the nation.  This arc fleshed her background and deepen her bond with yorozuya, especially Gintoki

For casual fans, this arc is the first time they see a glimpse of gintoki past, The first time  gintoki in a berserk mode, the first time he act by his own volition. And somehow he appeared like a true shonen hero saving the heroine.

By then tsukuyo was far from heroine status. She just recently introduced a couple episodes back. Yoshiwara in flame focused more on Hinowa and seita story. But Tsukuyo already  rose in ranking because her unique character design (in sacchan word, she has a lot of ‘hooks’) aside being badass in general.

For naysayers, Red spider arc is that arc that destroy Tsukuyo character. Reduced her into damsel in distress, mere love interest and what not. Of course its people’s right to interpret a work however they see fit. People enjoying entertainment in a different way afterall. Maybe they are a strict feminist type who wanted a true xena like character?  disappointed when a strong female charachter ended up saved by the male hero? (Tho I wonder why they don’t care with preceeding events where Tsukuyo saved gintoki a couple of time)  

The other would say this arc is such a big jump from previous arcs. A sudden transition they would say. And heck they’re right. Red spider arc  Is different compared to other serious arc before it.  Its lustrously dark, whispery,  not much emphasis on family nor comedy, not much explosion nor machismo.

And more importantly, its uncharacteristically Intimate.  

What do you expect? It took placein Yoshiwara-The Red light District- afterall.

The curtain raised with Jiraiya, the ex teacher of Tsukuyo, the main villain of this arc, On his post coital glow pondering about his object of creation. After enjoying the service of yoshiwara, He looked at the moon and probably feeling another rush of excitement reminiscing his dear beautiful student and the plan he’d set for her.

Not long after, Tsukuyo feel someone dangerous infiltrating her city. She and her Hyakka squad has been working hard to push down the crime that on the rise after the city lost its night king. Nearing their limit, she turned to Yorozuya, wondering if they can help with the drug problem.

Somehow, Tsukuyo and Gintoki teamed up just the two of them investigating the shady group with spider tattoo trademark. The result was assortment of classic romantic comedy skit : To-Love-Ru type of ‘accident’ and pretend couple.

Ok at this point its just natural that people start to see the two as potential couple. When they bicker they’d scream their heart silly, forgetting  whatever  adult persona they had in mind. Yet when the time come, they play along really well with the others bullshit act. They are on the same frequency already.

Back to the story, Later, they found out the drug lord is Jiraiya who apparently the long dead master (teacher who take care of  protegee under their wing) of Tsukuyo. With his unique ability he nearly killed Gintoki and captured Tsukuyo.

Some Naysayers disappointed at this point because Tsukuyo who supposedly a good fighter became useless in front of jiraiya. Ok let me use this opportunity to explain the technicality of how that’s possible.

She was shocked.

It was a surprise attack

Jiraiya, knew his student fighting ability the best and knew how to immobilize her.

Even Gintoki Almost killed because of his weird technique

She used the last of her strength to saved gintoki from jiraiya’s final blow.

“Huh? But gintoki didn’t turned into a useless mess when he met his long dead master alive?”

Lol what are you smoking? The old master  would split gintoki’s head from his body if not because Kagura’s help.  Also Utsuro/Shouyo goal was to crushed the rebels and nothing to do with Gintoki. While Jiraiya’s goal was to capture Tsukuyo. Understand the difference?  

Ok now that its out of my system lets continue.

Later Gintoki learned about the nature of Jiraiya and what this student-master relationship actually are from Zenzou. She-who believed every word of him and followed his foot step- was his creation and his prey at the same time. This method is sickening for Gintoki who loved his master to death.

For Gintoki a master should be more or less like shoyo. Strong, kind, wise and selfless. The kind of sage who gave his life for his student. Its infuriating to learn that a good women like tsukuyo has a psychotic monster as a master.

“see..Its not because of Tsukuyo that gintoki willingly revert to his shiroyasa self. Its because the master-student thingie that made him mad af”

Was the stuff I read from naysayers.  And for this one, I kinda agree. The main thing that infuriate gintoki about Jiraiya was that he used  master student relationship for some psychotic goal. As we know later, whenever topic about his own master brought on, Gintoki turned into a different beast.

Even I can see this arc’s intent beside telling tsukuyo’s past and cementing her as one of the recurrent character was also to foreshadow  Shoyo related arcs in the future.

However among all of that baggage brought by this arc, theres this one dialogue that caught my attention.

G : "give up already, theres nothing in your web. This entire time there was only a pathetic little spider spinning thread into sky while gazing at distant moon"

J : "What are you babbling about?I already knew that long ago"

The ones who ascociate Tsukuyo with the moon are the one who cherish her like hinowa and the hyakka squad  or the bastard who obsessed at her like Jiraiya. It’s a secret nickname people gave to her beside Shinigami Tayuu / courtesan of death. Wt  

At that  moment, Gintoki  speak about what Tsukuyo is to Jiraiya existence : A moon to a little insignificant spider. This confirm that Gintoki understand Tsukuyo’s epithet-wich means at that point of story he is familiar toward  Tsukuyo more than the viewers aware of.

To add, This is probably just me but the way he said that stuff about Jiraiya, whispering  while gazing at the sky, as if its applied to him aswell.  

Well, I just think that because throughout the fight he keep rambling about being on the same level as Jiraiya.

G: Do you know how to survive the spider nest? By eating the spider.

G : She is stronger than you ever be. A coward like me is enough for a coward like you

To Fight Jiraiya, Gintoki  drew parrarel between himself and Jiraiya. And its not impossible that parrarel extended until that moment.    

I  came to the conclusion At that moment Gintoki  already  admire Tsukuyo. Wether  her virtue, her  face, her quirk  or her phisycal attractiveness, it could be anything. The fact is Tsukuyo basically embodies everything gintoki like in a women.   

However because of his mindset and his self sabotaging lifestyle, he understood Jiraiya’s point of view of admiring an existence that is too good for them.

The episode ended with Tsukuyo learning his master’s past  and accepting his flaw after killing him. The moment when Gintoki implied that he would never be a good student to their master as tsukuyo is pretty touching too.

The last episode of this arc is a short one with majorly comedic skits. Another To Love Ru accident. And  a classic wingman setup to force a couple to be alone together.

Lol too much couply stuff happening in this arc.

Later after the crazy terminator drunken stupor, Tsukuyo asked gintoki if she didn’t has this scar, would her life be any different?

At this point I realize the pain endured by her, even though she said she was fine, physically and mentally, she actually struggling with the realization that all her past was something different than she perceived to be, that rather than genuine student master relationship, its an elaborate plan by her master to kill himself.

Its like realizing that we are adopted after all this time living in a loving family. From the surface it might not changed anything because its all in the past, But it changed everything within. It changed the foundation  of what we stood upon all these time.

Gintoki then assured her that her life is one that she choose, No one make her choose that. wether it’s  driven by a psychotic manipulation or a trust in a teacher who wanted make her strong. The life is still hers to behold and cherish

Gintoki further assured that her face Is not ugly, Its pretty face carrying clean soul. Or something to that effect (since translation vary)

As you see “Soul” is the overarching concept on Gintama. Its like “Adventure” on One piece and “Hard Work” On Naruto. It’s the Idea that the shounen protagonist holds dear.  

Shoyo first teaching to Gintoki was  how to protect his soul. In the war Gintoki choose to kill Shoyo to save his master’s soul. Means he choose Shoyo over his friends and himself. In effect, one of the friend’s soul was corrupted. While Gintoki turned himself into a vessel  whose purpose was merely to protect people he deemed fit and procasinating on his own growth.

Gintoki speak about Tsukuyo’s soul in her face is another testament of how deep their trust and bond has formed. 

Even though Gintoki has innate ability to peek into the human character, its not his fashion to directly address it. He usually find a roundabout way to make the others understand that they are being understood. But with Tsukuyo, everything he do about her  is direct.

“Don’t be a stranger, Lean on me, laugh with me and cry with me. I’d be there, cry and laugh with you ” Said Gintoki to tsukuyo.

 The Gintoki who often avoid emotional baggage from a stranger.

In conclusion, Red Spider Arc is such an awesome arc. The vibe is cool, the soundtrack is awesome and its has an intense emotionally charged action.

It is also the breeding ground for gintsu shipper, wich probably gonna make some part of fandom upset. But it is what it is and we can just enjoy or choose not to.

no matter how cold he treated you, masking his secret !!!-like concern, you seemed so unfazed through it. you still interacted with him like normal,,,,, why?? do you want a death wish?

and each time he threatened you with,, anything, you responded with, “the only one who gets to hurt & kill me, is ME”

...... what?

he’s convinced you’re the biggest fool of a person. and he’d be right but even so, he has a weirdly strong need to protect you as you two got closer. you’re often with sasuke, so it’s harder to avoid you.

even with all the Horrible jokes you make on a daily basis, if your passionate side with everyone having equal rights of being treated as human, for him it shows a side of you that makes you seem precious and pure and kind hearted.

and the overprotective side increases.

which is, ,, a bit problematic sometimes cause you have the tendency to target and piss off anyone in a 10 meter range by just one (1) sassy comment, along with your lack of impulse control and blurting out everything in your mind. it’s made you a lot of short enemies in the sengoku period, and kenshin would always be ready to slice them down behind you.

sasuke has to tame him down with his Masters degree in kenshin-wrangling.

at banquets, kenshin would often have you beside him. if you’re too young for sake do age for drinking exist in sengoku? probably not. it’s more of sasuke advising for him to not give you alcoholic drinks he’ll have you pouring for him or just munching away at pickled plums or food.

(ngl i kinda had a hard time with this since it’s erasing a big part of his overall character,,, flirting)

once he heard the news that oda had taken in somone as young as you during honno-ji,, ,,,he’s in a very “how dare that demon >>:( taking such a pure soul,....”

and when you’re taken to kasugayama as a captive, you’re,,, surprisingly very calm and whelmed. you don’t have much sign of fear or anxiety in your overall demeanor meanwhile you’re busy dissociating and spacing out to feel those

you actually don’t seem to hate your captor. but shingen isn’t sure if your ‘fingerguns’ is a good thing or not cause it depicts you pointing guns @ him,, (dw is good shingen)

while yes being held hostage—no matter how good you’re being treated—isn’t ideal and kinda not very cash money, you consider shingen v chill. man has a kindheart!! “i diagnose you with good vibes.”

if he ever sees your righteous side, as everyone else, he’ll deeply admire you. he himself is someone who believes in such as well. and hearing the circumstances in the modern world regarding those things (blm, etc.) his heart truly does go out for you. he feels sympathy for such a young person like you having to take action

also your dirty humor around him, echigo’s player, kind of makes him question where and how you learnt it

and,, his illness.

through getting straight to the point and not falling for it each time he changes subject/dodges the question, you managed to get to the bottom of his illness. shingen himself thinks it’s not something you have to burden with knowing—you’re so, so young.

but that doesn’t matter to you. the world’s given you such a shit time, you’re mature enough to understand the situation at least.

and as he finishes his explanation, all there was is silence. it felt wrong to say any of your usual quips,, so all you did was slowly came there and hugged him.

that was more than what he’d ask for.

you are in your element with him. the chillest guy to talk to, and probably the first one you’re the closest to

your phone was dead after like 2 days of use, and you were miserable while hideyoshi, like a typical parent, told you to go outside and into town. sensing your bad mood, sasuke asked what’s up. you deadpanned, “my phone game ended and now i’m ready to commit not breath.” you oslemnly look out in the bustling streets and clutched your fist like an Anime Protagonist, “those boomer memes were right all along... i am absolutely Miserable and Useless(^TM) without it.”

in response, you could’ve sworn he did the Anime Glasses thing as well, “then we at team Moderately Awesome Sengoku Ninja are happy to announce the launch of a DIY phone charger, made with the electricity from a fruit and the main functionality of a solar panel. and has more durability than samsung’s.”

there were Stars in your eyes now. with a big grin, you thank him, “i’d die for you, sasuke.”

“then perish.” he said with a blank look. (yukimura, in the bg: ???!!!??!??!?)

the next day he consentually breaks in through the ceiling and gives you the weird contraption. you’re now saved, soul-wise.

the memes start coming and they don’t stop coming from the two of you. in any situation. whether it’d be at a teahouse, or at a battlefield that can determine your life and death.

and you can have discussions about current world events, or the past ones, with him and he’d understand completely what you’re talking about. it’s those rare nights when you’ve been thinking and have a deep conversation with him in his room, and as an adult, it makes for interesting results as well.

the others are endlessly confused, but you’re both so unapologetically yourselves.

and he’s super protective if the circumstances are tough. he feels bad for dragging another person in the sengoku with him—much less when they’re so young like you.

if you’re enough of a lil shit, once you’re taken into kasugayama, in the nights where you can’t sleep because brain at what would be 3 am, you’d probably trudge over to his room and wake him up to tell him what kind of mind-blowing shit you realized.

when he saved you from falling to your death, your reaction already set off weird Vibes inside him. what do you mean, “you stopped me from fleeing this fleeting world by the sweet embrace of death” ?!?!?! are you crazy?? yes

he doesn’t waste time getting blunt with you at all either.

once he goes into azuchi as a merchant, he silently observes you talking to sasuke for a bit. what’s with your weird language?? and crude humor???? never in his life has he met someone in your age act like that wtf

even so, he still operates on the basis of ‘‘if sasuke trusts you, i trust you’’, no matter how utterly concerned you make him feel

you have a dirtier mind than him! unsurprisingly. along with everyone else, you often tease the poor soul, a nd you’d gladly tell him what the innuendoes mean ( 69, etc.) and maybe sprinkle in some gay jokes in there

and why do you keep mentioning this “bromance between him and sasuke” ?? what us,,, a bromance????? and why is sasuke in it??

he takes you out to teahouses to eat chestnut dumplings and other desserts with you. you always seem to target the one he doesn’t like the most and have a bit of banter

your relationship is built on banter but what’s different rlly

he treats you much more maturely than other people your age. as in, he doesn’t pull back his punches in words most of the time. you don’t seem to around him also, it looks like.

and, he’s also very protective of you. he regards you as his little sibling, as rat as you may be. and he does care about you—he might just be a bit unwilling to say it

you think he’s very chill, if a bit unique but who were you to judge. and he is, if you ever meet him in echigo or even azuchi

his big liking to art and something of apathy to people is osmething you can respect. there’s something about that kind of Vibe that you find oddly a mood.

and oh boy oh boy you wasted no time pulling up your phone and showing images of what art is in the future. whether it’d be a screenshot of anime, fanart, aesthetic-like ones, palette-themed—the whole shabang. 

and, somehow, you were left ranting to him  about how some artists in the future get it so shitty for theft, reposting, not crediting, the list goes on (please be a decent human being to artist, sincerely the author) and he can’t help but just listen in silence and kind of thinking about how you’re so passionate about the Struggles of artists. and it isn’t something he sees often in the sengoku era—where war rules most things.

and he does find art from the modern times interesting, how they’re so different and vast in styles. and not only that, it’s not like the future only has one major style like then, each hand can draw such different pictures and still have beauty in each. he appreciates and admires that.

and he does tell you his thoughts ^ while you give your own insight. it’s so fascinating to see someone like you having strong opinions on this.

because, well, rn art is a big thing in our lives as we’re stuck inside. a part of entertainment is looking at any media of art—and he finds his view of art and yours quite the same. you two came from a time of turmoil (one moreso than the other) but still think art isn’t exactly irrelevant just because it isn’t a cure to diseases or the Ultimate Weapon.

you had to Surgically Remove him from your phone so you can use it and to stop him from draining your battery looking at the art

and he often drags you out to town and admire pieces when you’re holing yourself in too much. your comments are always unknown to him, “radical”, “that’s one i can vibe with ngl”, and the list goes on.

and you occasionally call him pretty boy as a compliment rlly

—kennyo:

when you first saw him at honno-ji, and he won’t forget the one (1) line you gave him, all you said to his warning of ooo spooky demons was, “that’s lit fam gtg tho”

and that alone was enough to stun him for a few seconds

honestly you told the others of your meeting with kennyo before they told you it could be kennyo. just a throaway line of “oh yeah there was this dude with a scar across his face.” / “,,, ,....that’s kennyo. he’s really dangerous actually—” / “oh, poggers”

you’re probably kind of half the reason the oda forces found who dun it.

and it was an eye for an eye, kennyo himself found out that you were their child chatelaine, and very close to the others. as per his villain-schedule, he kidnaps you .

he laments about how “such a pure soul such as yours is not to be stained by the demon’s hands”

oh how Wrong he was.

you were the definition of the opposite of pure. and you seemed unfazed, which surprised kennyo but shrugged it off. he was willing to face you screaming and panicking, along with shouldering the sin of doing the deed. but instead, he was met with a raised eyebrow and, “this is unexpected and probably not welcomed but what am i doing here.”

he was stunned for a moment before explaining what he can. 

“......... fuck.”

he cringed ever so slightly at your curse. but your attention seems to stray so quickly off of the fact that you were bounded and helpless, to the fact that you have the man doing unspeakable things to civilians and you absolutely don’t approve.

throwing your common sense to maybe be civilized, you went off on a rant of how human rights and how to not be an ass to him. all he could do was just listened, shocked to even cut you off.

when he did, he gave the whole ‘unsaved demon’ shtick, and you weren’t taking that kinda shit. he believed he was truly unsaved—you knew that. but that doesn’t make it okay.

eventually, he left you with a cold end of the conversation.

he admires your spirit in a way—but with what he’s experienced,,, it’s a bit of unreachable for him.

if at any point you saw the soft side of his with animals, you just gaped at him for a split second and whispered, “the gap moe is strong with this one.”

also old man died inside when you said that you’d fight god, along with many things.

all in all, to him, you’re insufferable. but weirdly,, fascinating.

motonari already knew you were interesting even when his men just spied on you. your behavior, so brash and impulsive, is going to be so fun to have, he thinks.

through some planning to stir up more chaos, he kidnaps you and brings you unto his ship. same as kennyo, you showed no clear sign of surprise, and that’s when he decided you were either used to this in any way, or a fool. both answers, he liked.

you’re kind of really confused on why he’s doing what he’d doing. “i get it, i like to stir up chaos myself but it’s harmless,, most of it—but not until the people are in danger, bitch.”

and by that line, motonari leans towards you with a deadly smirk, “now, i can bite, ‘kay kid? you don’t wanna be in the receiving end... do you?”

“do it, coward.”

and before he could let out even a wheeze of laughter, you continued on on a lecture of, again, not being a dick and letting people live their life in peace. and much less all of this damage, for what? chaos?? yeah you wanted to see the world burn but it wasn’t literally.

however, his patience was running thin. he shuts you up forcefully, and leaves.

even so, after a cooldown period, he still talks to you (,,,, well, that’s kind of a generous term) because, right he was, you were so fun in his eyes.

an interesting observation he made,,, was that you picked up on his big dislike of physical contact. and he’d think with how annoying you were at times, that you’d weaponize it. but you didn’t—in fact, you kept your space (not that you were planning to get close) and respected his boundaries.

he thinks you a bit of peculiar for that decision, some wary, and perhaps naive.

one of the days—the more dangerous ones—he was planning to take you to the oda as bait or something. and you weren’t taking it like that. two days before arrival, a storm racked up. you stood upon the edge of the ship with the rest of the crew watching you like you were a madman.

“the oda won’t want me if i’m dead, would they now?”

motonari stands in his composure, guffawing, “all i need is to make sure they believe you’re alive, kid.”

a smile that showed absolutely no fear and 1000 percent spite spread in your face, “not unless i decimate my own body until all the trail left is my blood. the only one who gets to do that shit to me, is me.”

finally, a look of wavering shows in his face.

PART ONE HERE

PARTS THREE TO EIGHT

I was all over the place, like I always am, after all, and I enjoyed that experience a lot, it filled something inside of me. I always knew I needed something else. I sure was a pain in the ass for many people, but then I met a whole group of people just like me and I learned what acceptance means. What was percieved as “different” in my daily life became normal and I felt at home. I was certainly the most determined one, the first time at the Eventyrteatret I was the only one of 50 kids in the room who didn't live in Copenhagen and had to take a long trip to get there. It was so crazy and chaotic. It was so strange that they sang and danced, and then they all danced in sync into a song they prepared for the annual performance. Well, back then I thought it was weird, but a month went by and it became completely normal for me. “I'm one of you”.

It was a new experience. You suddenly started singing and dancing in Copenhagen, how was that recieved back at home in Skælskør?

I think it took some time for the people I used to hang out with to understand that. I have to say I may remember feeling a little bit out of place. But it also has to be said, I've always been pretty comfortable in school, honestly. I have never been the one who has been so unpopular or I have struggled extra hard, I think. So it was, maybe, a little bit difficult. It might have been hard for me not to be accepted anymore because I was accepted before. Their point of view wasn't the big challenge for me, I actually think it was more an internal challenge with myself, I could feel there was a completely different world. I didn't know anything about it but I just made room for myself and I discovered there was a part of me I had no idea was there in the first place.

Was it difficult to maintain frendships in school when you were busy driving back and forth between Skælskør and Copenhagen?

It has actually not been that bad in primary school. But I have to say in high school, yes, it was. I have some friends from high school I talk to every now and then, but no, I didn't maintain any close friendship. I basically lived a double life throughout high school, where I was either at the Eventyrteatret or I was shooting the advent calendar in Aalborg. So I was pretty much not there, my social life was in Copenhagen. I had a girlfriend there too. I just didn't feel the need for a social life in Skælskør. And the free time I had was pretty much all absorbed by my profession.

I think we can all relate.

Yes but usually Danish kids in high school when they have free time they wanna party, that's what happens when you're part of a group of friends in high school.

We have had some other guests in the studio who have had very different experiences. How is your situation friendship-wise in school at this point?

I had some friends in high school, in my class and in other classes, absolutely. But I spent almost all the time with the group of friends in Copenhagen, so I was not influenced by my high school mates and their choices that much. I've felt a lil bit different because I've had a double life. I mostly had different group of friends in relation to the activity I shared with them. The group of friends I acted with, the group I went to college with and then a small group I talk to from time to time mostly individually.

Do you have both female and male friends?

Yes, I do. I would say I have more male friends tho. It's a mixed bunch of ordinary people, both women and men.

Is the way you communicate with your female friends different from the way you communicate with your male friends?

Definitely. You have to be more of a listener, I'm pretty good at listening, I think you have to adapt and communicate in a different way based on who is in front of you. See, with men you talk a certain way, that sort of street style if you will.  It comes natural because that's the way you talk to each other since the first day you met. But when you have in front of you people who are pretty cool and you have to impress them, you just have to do this and that, and that's what it's needed. But I would like to be able to be honest, always. And it's not hard at all, I’ve been really good at surrounding myself with some really, really pleasant people. I can afford to be myself at all times and they can be one hundred percent themselves with me.

What does it mean to be your authentic self for you?

It means that one can afford to have not only a good day but also a bad one. To be able to be stupid and not have to be slaughtered for it. I can be weird and crazy and say some stupid things without having to go half an hour afterwards and hit myself in the head. These are little things that are so insanely hard to find. I'm very lucky. I can pretty much talk about everything with them, we are very very honest with each other. In January, I was in Tenerife with three of my friends, and we brought along our stories in the luggage. I was suffering from anxiety and I had a sore stomach, it lasted four months, I was finally getting better. Another friend of mine, he's extreme. The love game hits him immensely. The other one suffers from depression. He generally has a hard time figuring out what he wants and what he doesn't existentially. And then we have number four, thank God, he doesn't have the same big problems. He holds us all together. It was a great experience, I remember us four sitting around the table and talking while eating pizza with shrimps. We sat for three or four hours talking non-stop about nothing but our problems that one could imagine they are extremely taboo for other groups.

Did sharing with each other give you something on an emotional level?

Oh yes, absolutely. We support each other by sharing and it's awesome to have people you trust so much to share such personal issues with. And so I think in 2019 in today's Denmark, that's what it means to be a man. To be able to comprehend people and understand. I see instead a lot of carelessness and stereotypes.

Didn't you encounter those qualities in other men, as an adult?

No, not at all. It's not about stereotypes. We have just as many problems as everyone else and we are extremely worried about it financially and emotionally. Anxiety. Social education, existential issues. It can be anything. All my friends, all the people I have in my life, they all have problems to a greater or lesser degree. Absolutely. But that's what it means to be human. And that's what it means to be a man. It means you are making mistakes, you are imperfect. You are a fool, and you must be allowed to be a fool, and you will also stand on your own. You're going to hurt other people because you're human. But you must also be forgiven, and you must also be able to forgive. You just need care and understanding.

Were you able to find the care and understanding you need?

Alex groans – Yes and no.

Do I have to change subject?

Alex laughs – No, it's ok. I am open to recieve care. It's just that I stress a lot about my mistakes, your head plays games with you and you just have to survive.

You can't control everything you can handle, what a funny paradox. You describe yourself as a person who likes to take up a lot of space and fill a lot. And then I also sense that when it comes to emotions, for example, to take a seat and ask for help, then it's a whole different thing.

Yes, that's true. I don't know, I'm fucking complicated and I don't know how to handle it at all. I believe in nature and creativity. I have always had a lot of willpower and then I had my mother showing me the right path, then you grow up and learn to control yourself. But I have a hard time talking about it. I told you, I don't know. Yes, I am a human being who goes through a lot and thinks such extremely deep thoughts, I put all that in my creativity, in my work. That helps me. Then I have moments when I'm completely wrapped in my own thoughts, but I think, generally, I'm a relaxed person. I do my very best just not to do all that thinking and that takes a lot of effort. I won't let those thoughts get under my skin because I know all too well that it's not good for me.

haha I do have several of those actually. I’ll include both what I think are the worst dynamics and the kind of ships that “I just don’t get why would you ship smth like that”.

1. What I actually call “a mom and a manchild”.

examples: Hatori/Chiaki from “Sekaichi Hatsukoi”, Ikuya/Hiyori.

I guess, technically there’s nothing wrong with this, if they both enjoy being this way, but firstly I just hate adults behaving like infants and I don’t think encouraging such behavior can lead to anything good, and secondly watching this just makes me uncomfortable for many reasons. And moments like when Hyori came up to Ikuya when he talked to Haru and was like “it’s too late and you can’t talk to this man, time to go home” and Ikuya went I just cracked up at this. Also when one part is basically changes the other’s part diapers, but in return gets tantrums or basically nothing or “but I wanna play with someone else tho”, it’s just a kink I do not get, like why would you want to be treated like this is beyond me.

But then I also generally dislike infantile characters, and I can’t ship smth if I don’t like both parties, so maybe bc of this. I always like the mature characters. Like even when I do know in theory that a 13 year old in reality can’t behave like Todoroki, I’m still like, I don’t fucking care, that’s the one I like xD But when 20 years old Ikuya behaves like this, I just do not appreciate it, I guess.

2. “I don’t have an identity, my identity is you or what you want me to be” category, including “my dignity flew out of the window” ones and “I just do what you do”. (I CANNOT HANDLE THIS DYNAMIC, YOU KNOW I CAN’T!!!!!!! I DO NOT WHY, BUT IT’S JUST PISSING ME OFF THE MOST OF ALL PROBABLY)

examples: Eren/Mikasa, Haru/Makoto, Natsusa/Sei from “Number24″.

Sports animes do that a lot. “The only reason I played rugby is because you played it” is a major cringe. And no, it’s not romantic. Romantic is like when you’re both passionate about this and doing this sports together makes it even better/more meaningful, that I get. Not, “I only went there bc you like it” and I’ll have what you have, I’ll do what you do. Like.. huh? You firstly a person, as in fully formed one pls, you can’t exist as someone’s trail. 

Those ships always contain this one person (like Mikasa, Makoto), who are just the accessory of the other character. Mikasa’s problem is not the ackerbond, it’s her life position, she herself chosen to be Eren’s doormat. And some also find this romantic, I think, but I just hate such things. Also the truth of life: if you don’t respect yourself, your crush won’t respect you either. Just saying.

Makoto, I sincerely think, if Kisumi would be his neighbour instead of Haru, he’d be playing basketball at school lmao. Like SD has so many of absolutely terrible scenes, where Makoto just for real turns to Haru and goes “do you think I should go to the basketball club if we’re not swimming?” like dude, I’m... he’s like a walking definition of “meh” if there ever existed one. How can you do not care what you do? Like at all. This is beyond me. That’s sad. Watching him makes me sad.

I just need both characters in a ship be you know THEM, fantastic on their own, then when they’re together they become an absolutely explosive magic. It’s just a true fact.

Also there is one ship who is not quite this category, but kinda touches this theme. Ciel and Lizzy from “Kuroshitsuji”, ike the original Ciel, for whom she wanted to pretend to be a dumb damsel in distress for the rest of her life. Like fucking seriously????? You’d live like this????!!!! Fucking hell, you must really don’t love yourself like at all.

3. Humiliation isn’t my kink.

examples: Dazai/Akutagawa, Midoriya/Bakugou.

Akutagawa and Midoriya are badass motherfuckers and also wonderful human beings on their own. When they encounter Dazai and Bakugou they become sheeps. I hate seeing them like that, that’s basically it. Also humiliation is really not my kink. The whole “treat him like crap” thing. Like some things they did to them is just.. my god, I don’t like it.

Like when Dazai asked Atsushi to throw the phone moment, I literally flinched so hard watching it, I can’t even explain this feeling between the dejection and utter disgust at the fact that Dazai did it, that I felt watching it, but I fucking hated it.

4. Those who bring out the worst in each other or don’t bring out anything in each other.

All my ships literally all with no exceptions make each other the best versions of themselves, push/challenge each other to become better/brighter/happier, etc., or add to each other that piece the other was missing. 

If someone makes someone feel depressed, miserable or even just simply stuck in a rut, that’s probably not it. There are some ships who just simply can’t make each other happy or even make each other unhappy and that’s a fact.

5. Ships with no development or development so tiny that you need 120 episodes and an magnifying glass to see it.

examples: I’d say, but I just don’t want those 10 year olds in my ask box again.

Hate this for obvious reasons. Because as wise ppl say “only fools don’t grow” or "if we don't change, we don't grow. if we don't grow, we aren't really living."

6. Those who are like brothers to each other and said so and don’t emmit any and I mean ANY sexual vibes or attraction in that kind of way towards each other. 

examples: Harry Potter/Ron Weasley (like THE FUCK seriously), Stiles/Scott from “Teen Wolf”, Keith/Shiro.

I just cannot imagine them being romantically involved, I literally can’t. And I don’t get it. It’s like they even say “you’re my brother” thing, but also they just do not give off any couply feels and imagining this kinda make me cringe a bit, cause I have two sisters I’m very close with and their relationship remind me of our relationships so just.. no.

7. They are not each others priority. Meaning both putting someone else or something else before them.

If they don’t put each other first, I most likely probably don’t want it. 

My jam is like Stucky and when they say to Steve “you do this, captain, and the whole world would think of you as a criminal” and Steve being like “fuck you, take your shield, take your idiotic hero rules, I don’t care, he matters to me more than your whole dumbass world”.

My jam is Lan Zhan who went against the whole world and a horde of stupid donkeys and fought for his baby till the end. He really didn’t care if he’d lose everything and what would other ppl think, if it meant that Wei Wuxian will be with him.

On the other hand, we have Jin Guangyao, who had Lan Xichen, but he wanted power and idiots’ love more, so he chose what he chose. Do not get this ship, like no, thanks.

As for putting specific someone else first. Rin/Sousuke, for example. I in general do not get it, but also like there are like 10 moments in the anime like in Yakusoku when Rin forgot about him, when he saw Haru during the tournament and an actual quote “Sousuke looked at Rin, who will always put Haru first”. So like... I do not get it. If you see them as a couple this is technically no good no for Sousuke, no for Rin.

8. Obviously straight ones, but “hey, I need them gay”.

I in fact just do not believe in a “straight ppl do not exist” thing. As I’ve said before there are exceptions where some characters give off the clear bi vibe, but those are pretty rare tbh. And even more rare canonically proven ones like Kanda from D.Gray-man, for example. 

The moment they show some character in anime drool over some girls he doesn’t even know, but he don’t react to any of the guys like this, this just means he’s most likely heterosexual. Cause only straight guys drool only specifically after seeing random boobs. So this thing always throws me off in some ships.

99% of my ships are either canonically gay or most likely gay, but author doesn’t want to label it. 

There are just lots of animes where main character/s have shown no interest in an opposite gender whatsoever like “Natsume Yuujinchou”, “Kuroko No Basuke”, “AOT”, “Number24″, “Fukigen na Mononokean”, “Tower Of God”, “Owari no Seraph” etc., but did in fact show interest in the same gender one. That I get, yes. 

And btw even if you want somebody to be as I call it a “wishful bi”, I think it should be only in situations like if these characters have some absolutely wonderful/undeniable connection, not just the ship for the sake of gay ship.

What did Madara think about Obito? I never could tell. Did he think he was a brat?

honestly this is a gonna be a weird one anon but

by the time madara meets obito in canon - like, crushed under a rock obito and old man madara - i think he’s so far gone from the concept of actually forming connections to human beings that he literally just does not care if obito lives or dies? like, madara, by this point, has explicitly said that he views the current world as a distraction from the world to come. everything he does now is for the sake of bringing about the eternal tsukyomi. madara’s been literally deliberately isolating himself in a cave for the past 80 years and meditating on the transience of the human experience. he’s been killed by the only man he ever loved, he’s cut off every tie he’s ever had with any other human being, and - as far as anyone knows - he is dead. he’s the ghost of the uchiha. madara is running out of time. he needs obito for his plans - failing that, another agent who can carry out his will under his name - because he’s old as hell and he’s dying. he’s been surviving out of sheer necessity, bc he has to see this plan through to the end - if the world isn’t granted the eternal tsukyomi then it means everything he fought and sacrificed for was done in vain. it would mean that he broke hashirama’s heart for nothing. so yeah, madara probably has bigger things on his mind when obito’s in the cave than whether or not the kid was annoying him. i think he probably felt bad for him. not just bc his friend died and his other friend got Trauma (tm), but bc obito still hadn’t come to the same realization madara had. obito still had the capacity to feel pain, which was something madara had forced hashirama to carve out of him at the valley of the end (because how could anything hurt madara now, after that?”) i think the pity madara feels for obito is the same pity he feels for all mankind, because they haven’t seen what he’s seen, and they don’t know that there is a solution. they’re still lashed to the karmic wheel, whereas madara’s broken free. that’s why he can justify doing things like (somehow) arranging for rin to be captured by the rain or whoever and kakashi having a Trauma Moment (tm) which triggers obito’s own Trauma Moment (tm)

(ignoring the fact that this entire setup is fucking ridiculous, i know madara cops to it in canon, but how the fuck did this dead man arrange for the capture of this girl and somehow convince this city-state to put their bijuu in her as some kind of suicide bomb, that’s such a stupid fucking twist of conjecture, how the hell did he - he’s tied to the fucking god tree it makes no sense)

when he’s reincarnated, i think that’s a different story, lol. the first thing madara does when he comes back is say how pissed he is that obito fucked everything up so badly. there wasn’t supposed to be a war, he wasn’t supposed to come back as an edo tensei, hashirama wasn’t supposed to be there - it’s all a mess. so madara at this point probably views obito as a (kind of inept) subordinate. someone you gave the keys to your house while you were on vacation, and u asked them to feed the dog, and when you come back not only is your dog gone but there’s a fucking cockatiel in the living room and when u ask him “what did you do with my dog” he just points at the cockatiel and is like “but this is what u wanted right” and ur like NO i just wanted u to take care of things while i was gone and hes like “but i DID” and it just goes downhill from there

but yeah no again, i think during the 4th shinobi war madara sees obito as a chess piece to be used to bring about his reincarnation - and that’s it. he just keeps doing shit, tho, and its honestly pissing madara off bc obito’s not supposed to consume the bijuu, obito’s not supposed to succumb to the talk-no-jutsu, obito DEFINITELY isnt supposed to try and betray him at the last second

if we’re talking personality-wise, in an au that DOESN’T involve madara disassociating so hard it summons a moon god, i honestly think he’d be like. a cool scary uncle to child obito. bc one of my more Controversial Madara Theories is that he’s actually okay w kids? like, only on his side. he, personally, has no problem w kids. (kids just have a problem w him bc he’s fucking terrifying lmao it’s uchiha madara). but once obito (as a child) gets over that, i feel like madara and him would get up to some Schemes. madara would not only help obito graffiti the hokage monument, but he would buy him the paints to do so. it’s a chakra exercise in walking on cliffs, lmao. as an adult obito, i think madara would have an okay working relationship w him? i don’t think he’d be super close w him for the same reason madara isn’t super close with anybody: he’s too fucking powerful to make meaningful human connections with people who aren’t senju hashirama. he literally has nothing in common with this dude lmao. i think he wouldnt dislike him? madara likes it when ppl look up to him, and i think obito would look up to him in the right conditions, so there’s some foundation for a relationship there. honestly, at the end of it all, i think the Peak madara-obito relationship is “Cool Scary Uncle” and “Too Friendly and Incompetent To Survive On His Own Nephew”

my brain is too fried right now to do any kind of exhaustive list so i’m gonna rec a few things that i know you could get your hands on/available in translation:

for two thousand years, by mihail sebastian - really heartbreaking yet also lucid, adventurous and darkly humorous memoir of a Jewish writer in his youth at the height of nazism in romania (there’s even a Penguin classic of it)

diary of a short-sighted adolescent by mircea eliade - a funny and bittersweet bildungsroman about a bookish teenager who wants to read everything now and be the cleverest person alive while also struggling with being super lazy and unmotivated because he’s young and restless, it’s very #relatable. but it’s also fascinating to read this in opposition with “for two thousand years” because eliade entertained legionnaire nazi sympathies at one point. (also, you should check out his novellas too, especially the fantastic ones)

anything you can find in translation by gabriela adamesteanu - just lovely, delicate prose about growing up, being an adult, inhabiting your body and your feelings in an oppressive world 

the hatchet by mihail sadoveanu (apparently, there is a translation) - a lot of people give this novel flak, mostly because we had to read it in high school, but it’s a great and deceptively simple little novel that says a lot more about people than it cares to admit. the action takes you through several villages in the East-Carpathians, where a peasant woman goes in search of her missing husband. it’s a fascinating mixture of crime and folklore and mythology. 

any novella by costache negruzzi, but especially “alexandru lapusneanu”, another classic we had to read in school and which gets a lot of flak. it’s so bonkers and #quality-trash. let’s just say there’s a scene where the power-hungry voievod/prince lapusneanu enacts a red-wedding situation and builds a pyramid of freshly severed heads to impress his lady wife *swoon* 

the forest of the hanged by liviu rebreanu - i know people argue this isn’t his best novel, but it’s got the most heart. it’s the story of a soldier/philosopher in WW1 who falls in love with people again. that’s it. he falls in love with people, and the war and everything in between doesn’t matter anymore. or it matters only as it pertains to people, and people alone. 

gallants of the old court by mateiu caragiale - a bizarre gem of early 20th century Romanian nightlife, a wonderful, orgiastic fugue, feverish and infuriating. it’s mostly about rich men and social-climbers getting into existential trouble, but also into real trouble. normally, because the action takes place right before WW1, this would signify the end of an era. but we don’t really have a beginning or end. we are part-balkan, part-french imitators, part-whatever-sticks. nothing moves us, and everything does. and that’s why it’s a sort of love/hate letter to romanians 

in terms of poetry, some personal faves:  nichita stanescu, ana blandiana, monica pillat, marin sorescu,  a.e. baconsky, lucian blaga, emil brumaru, nora iuga, marta petreu, nina cassian. and yes, mihai eminescu, our national poet, though i’m often in two minds about him.  

poetry in translation is really hit and miss because of the “untranslatable”, so here’s two lines from a poem by nina cassian, because i want to show you what i mean:

            De când m-ai părăsit mă fac tot mai frumoasă             ca hoitul luminând în întuneric. 

this roughly and poetically translates to:

          Since you left me I’ve grown more beautiful

           like the corpse lighting the dark 

and this is sort of lovely on its own, but you’d need to know and hear and taste the word “hoit” in romanian to really feel the abjectness, because “hoit” is a smelly, ugly yet also alluring, already decomposing version of “cadavru” aka cadaver/corpse. also “ mă fac tot mai frumoasă” cannot be accurately summed up in “i’ve grown more beautiful”. a literal translation would be “I make myself more beautiful”. in romanian, this is obviously idiomatic and not literal. and yet, these strange self-reflexive valences make these lines strong and eerie, as if the speaker were authoring her beauty, shaping it out of clay and darkness and “hoit”,  like a butterfly cracking the corpse’s shell to get out, but also retaining some of its mesmerizing stench. why did i pause to do a close-reading of romanian poetry??? anyway, you catch my drift

in terms of movies, a recent one i really loved was sierranevada by cristi puiu, which is a neurotic family drama that drains you but also lifts you up 

and yeah, the hype is real, 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days by cristi mungiu really is that good (about two young women trying to get an illegal abortion in communist romania. it won the palme d’or for very legit reasons. it breaks you in small ways. the very last shot of the film you’ll carry with you forever). i also liked graduation by cristi mungiu, where a young overachieving girl is about to graduate high school and go on to study abroad, until a terrible event unmoors both her and her family. the movie turns almost hallucinatory at one point, filled with ambiguity and a kind of sleep-walking quality 

tales from the golden age by cristi mungiu (him again!) is also fantastic for anyone who wants to get a taste of communist romania and the sad-funny absurdities of everyday life. this movie is split in 2 parts and the format is that of an anthology, almost like watching several short films at once. and there is one film in the anthology that always turns me inside out, and it’s really silly, it’s this bonnie and clyde type story about this girl and boy who meet at a party and devise an ingenious get-rich scam and just run around a few neighborhoods trying to put it into practice and it’s...the sweetest, most incomplete thing. there is such a strange, lovely connection there that never gets realized, and there is a MOMENT between them where he helps her step down from this ledge and he holds her briefly to him and i remember being in the cinema and thinking THIS, this is THE MOMENT where i felt these people were real. it was such an honest, lovely moment. like the equivalent of this song. ANYWAY, why am i rambling so much??? this ask was supposed to be SHORT. 

aferim! by radu jude is also a really neat movie and provides a look into the historical romanian/rroma relationship and why it’s so messed up, yet also so organic

the death of mr. lazarescu by cristi puiu is also a great little film about a man who gets sick and goes to the hospital. and...dies, as you can tell from the title. on the surface, he dies because of institutional ineptness and a broken healthcare system. at a deeper level, he dies because we no longer know how to help people. various hospital staff in the film do try to help him and fail for various stupid or quietly heartbreaking reasons. it’s a movie about being physically unable to care. there’s indifference, sure, but also this great exhaustion of the human spirit. but the movie is also darkly funny. might not be a great pandemic watch, but then again it might be exactly what you need 

there are soooo many other classics in terms of books (morometii by marin preda, for instance, about a patriarch in a small village in the South who slowly realizes the world he used to live in doesn’t have room for him anymore, and maybe it never had) but i’m gonna end on a quote from ion creanga, one of the most cryptic classics of romanian lit:

“Şi eu eram vesel ca vremea cea mai bună şi şturlubatic şi copilăros ca vântul în tulburea sa”

my translation: “and I was cheerful like the best weather and frolicsome and childish like the wind in its cloudiness” 

and again, the words in romanian and their particular sound and bite (”şturlubatic”, “tulburea”) immediately take me elsewhere. creanga writes about childhood, but it’s never really childhood. he writes as an adult who, in my opinion, was never really a child, but a weird, small god of the land. i mean the word “tulburea” can mean both “turmoil” and “muddiness”. the wind can be anguished, but also just a little cloudy, just a little hazy, shrinking its agony, howling it in the child. it’s eerie and gorgeous. so, that’s what he does: creanga writes about children as if they were wind-like spirits. he writes stories about devils and the peasants who trick them and school books filled with spit and flies, and warm eggs stolen from nests and fairy-tales of a world that is buried somewhere inside us, but not too deep, things hidden under our clothes or nails or even in our hair. and it’s all so physical and convoluted, just like his prose. and i don’t think anyone will ever make sense of him and that’s what makes him so discombobulatingly great.

anyway, this was supposed to be...like, really short! and not gassy! i’m sorry. i love waxing about all this gay stuff. i’m so gay about it. 

realistically tho, the nearest thing you’ll find in your local bookshop is probably books by famous ‘theater of the absurd’ playwright, eugen ionesco, or novels in translation by contemporary author mircea cartarescu. both are pretty good, so go for it! (if you want to start small, i’d recommend REM by mircea cartarescu, because it’s so trippy and meta and captures that summer holiday eeriness so well. it goes well with this romanian song sung in english)
