In honor of the @rw-ship-showdown I wanted to write about Artihunter as someone who jokingly slapped them together pre-downpour and still thinks they are actually very compelling. Just not in the super soft love wins kinda way (Although I get why people like that more)
And the only way I know how to do that is talking too much so heres a far too long slug essay-
Obviously the slugcats don't offer a ton of characterization but theres not nothing to work with. Their stories, whether by their roles in it or the overarching themes do provide a backbone to work with. Even gameplay itself can provide a bit. (for some more than others)
Hunter, to me, is ultimately a story about selflessness. The goal is to revive Moon, which is very much an act of kindness from both Hunter and NSH. But the weight of that action is much more significant for Hunter- Hunter is deeply sick. They're on the clock, and for all their skill in combat none of that will ultimately help them to survive longer than their body can hold out. Moon is a close friend of NSH but that means little Hunter- Hunter really gets next to nothing out of helping them, and ultimately pays quiet a bit spending their limited time alive fighting to deliver that neuron so that someone else can live.
To spend ones limited days on helping another, in a game that very much stresses the unwavering cruelty of the world and nature- is pretty notable. (And you could even say that Hunter being the Hardmode of Rain World adds another layer to this)
And then we have Artificer. A storyline that very much stands out to people as more… villainous (so to speak) than the other slugcats. Artificer's story covers a lot of things. Trauma, violence, revenge, etc. Revenge is a bit of a selfish desire- That need to see someone hurt as they have hurt you. A punishment that ultimately does not fix whatever harm was done- but feels good to see because you were hurt and now those responsible share that pain.
Artificer's actions are founded in that need for revenge, their pups killed for overstepping boundaries they didn't know existed. Is it not fair for them to be angry at that, to punish the scavengers for their violence with their own? Why should the scavengers ever be forgiven when they and their pups were not? And that's how you get that loop- Harm for harm over and over.
The original action has been lost in a spiral of violence for violence. And here stands Artificer- their very spirit scarred. Not just because they sought revenge, but because they never ceased trying to scratch that itch for violence as an answer. Artificer only has two paths for their story- killing the scavenger king (Someone who, really, has little to do with the original 'crime' of the scavengers, but represents an important individual to them- as did the slugpups to Artificer), locking themselves as karma one for good and spending the rest of their life chasing creatures that no longer even fight back in a warped sense of closure- or to dissolve themselves in the acids of the void sea because they're too far gone to find any real peace.
They can't meaningfully recover from that state, not alone, twisting in on themselves. Even if they halt their actions, they've been using violence as a feeble defense against their own pain- violence that no longer has any real direction or basis. Artificer gets no real closure from killing the scavenger king. All they can do is continue the cycle, or try to scrub it away. No real peace in a prison of their own making.
So you have a creature, who even with a strict timer on their life- a body that will crumble to disease, spends its last bit of time on saving another. And another who was so caught up in the pain of loss that were eaten alive by their own anger, poisoned their own soul on such a deep level even self-proclaimed gods have no solution for them.
What peace can they offer each other? For Hunter, its only a fleeting moment of happiness- of selfish love, before their own body fails them. A bit of indulgence in something for themself. For Artificer, its a single, comforting thread to ground them again, something tangible to protect and care about again.
But thats a thread that will ultimately be snapped under the cruel indifference of the world. Hunters timer will tick down regardless of if it takes another with it. Its a tragedy- its doomed to end badly. Whatever good it offers to either of them to find each other will only provide the fleeting comfort of a band-aid that will be ripped away too early.
But all that can be worth indulging in anyway, if only for the moment. It doesn't change the ending, but the ending was never going to be happy.
Its can so yuri

Take your time of answering this. No rush 😊
I’m curious after Jason been knighted as a Red Knight and first dealing with the Flash Fam screwing up the flow of time… Again…
A Flash: messes up the timestream
Jason:
Now, keep in mind Jason had been fucking with the Flash Fam prior to being formally knighted. Being knighted as Fright Knight(or Red Knight in this case) just gives him a bit of a power up and also gives him a good deal of authority in the 'Realms.
Now what was really scary was the first time Jason went after a Flash fucking with the timestream while in his Red Knight armor.
Just. This hulking suit of armor and ghostly flames running at them like the Terminator and. They're the FLASH fam. They're supposed to be the fastest people around. Yet they can't outrun this full on armored tank of a being.
When he catches up to whichever Flash is responsible he just scruffs them like misbehaving kittens and shakes them.
"Stop. Fucking. With. Time. You. Little. Shit." And a few more shakes for good measure. And whichever Flash it is just nods meekly. Because what else are you gonna do when this man who is more built than Superman, faster than you, who is coated in black and red armor literally radiating flames picks you up like you weigh nothing more than a wet paper bag and scolds you like a puppy who piddled on the carpet?
You agree and then offer to buy him chilidogs. (All of the Flash Fams know the big tank dude likes chilidogs, the skinny eldritch nightmare likes burgers)
Danny and Jason are the Flash Fam's version of those scary sea stories sailors tell each other. They're what goes bump in the night.

Okay so based on the trajectory we've been on (Dick and Roy coming close to being confirmed bi all the way back in 2003, Dick being bi in the Gotham Knights game, Dick having a pride cover every year, Joey originally being intended to be gay but then being confirmed bi in reboot, Tim being confirmed bi as a way to test the waters of a bi robin) I think we're going to get canon, 100% confirmed bisexual Dick Grayson by 2035.
That being said, if Joey Wilson isn't mentioned at all in his coming out, I will be angry. I don't mean this in a shipper brain way, I mean this in a "it's the only thing that makes sense with their history" kind of way.
Similarly, I want them to finally name his demisexuality what it is at the same time. He described demisexuality over a decade before the word was coined. Let him be asexual.

it should be illegal to be this fucking stupid so loudly and confidently omg..
mfs on the internet preach about "media literacy" yet they completely gloss over the fact that the only damn things that kusuo "canonically" is are a tsundere, an unreliable narrator, and a fucking liar LMFAOOO.. babe thats like basic reading comprehension, im sorry..
EDIT: it should go without saying not to send a person hate just because of a silly post like this one(+i dont have any reach anyway so im sure it wouldnt happen, but i wanna say this nonetheless lol) but i would just like to say that i just checked and realized that this person is 15 years old, so like... yeah, too young to be arguing with grown people on the internet. dont take this too serious or send this person hate pls lol..

I know how gone girl midsommar girl n Maria Callas in pasolinis medea felt and if u call these 'white karen feminism' ur probably insufferable. These arent even 'feminist' movies in any political way, theyre even all directed by men actually, theyre just about the heartbreak of realizing that a man you sacrificed your entire sense of self for, moved to a shithole town for, walked around eggshells for to not seem needy and 'annoying' right after ur entire family died or killed a family member for and commited blasphemy that you were kicked out of your kingdom and lost your witch powers never gave a shit and just cheated first opportunity possible

hey! i have a few questions as someone who hasn't really read the comics but what exactly is the pit? and also i don't think there's a clear number but how long after jason died did tim become robin/how long after jason died did he come back to life?
i just wanted to ask you since you seem very well-versed in jason's comics and i wanted to get into them! but if you don't have the answers, no biggie! thanks anyways <3
Tbh I'm not very well versed in comics myself, so I advise you to do your own research as well but basically:
1)The Lazarus Pit. This is the one I know the least about because it was introduced alongside Ra's al Ghul in 1972. It has had A LOT of changes to it like how sometimes it's alchemic(?) creation and how sometimes it is natural, sometimes it can bring back the dead, sometimes it cannot, sometimes it is green and sometimes(in lost days for example, the comic where we see jason's returen to life) it's orange/goldish. In lost days, it does NOT bring jason back from the dead, because he has already come back by that point, but he has brain damage and is catatonic. Ra's grows impatient w Jason's lack of progress and wants to "get rid of him" and Talia sees no choice besides throwing Jason into the pit to heal his injuries. And the rest is history. Note that a concept of "pit madness" is not present in utrh nor in lost days. I think it is brought up in a later post-crisis comic(btfc maybe?) but don't quote me on that.
2)Lost days places Jason's resurrection(him digging out of his grave) at 6 months after his death. I don't know when Tim becomes robin, you should look at "A Lonely Place of Dying" for that but I think it was around the same time as Jason's resurrection, maybe a bit later.
Thanks for the ask!!

Cursed Thought
But we never actually get any confirmation that the end we enter to get Kings Brand is the head end.
I mean, it’s implied by the horns/teeth…
But why would the King’s rebirth egg be located in his old body’s throat?
That’s not the flesh tunnel eggs normally come from.
