I love them so muuuuuuuuch in many ways. Ngl till now Costar gotta be one of my favourite s/i ever design wise and story wise . Probably the only one (aside from my two Mario s/I )that I perfectly planned every angle AAAAAA and I'm so glad people think so too ^^. Picking her design was so fun cuz it's 1- based on an inside joke and 2- based on so many cool design aspects I likes especially in 30s cartoons . It's so fun to work on ! Especially with how diverse samurai jack characters can be so it gave me so much creative freedom .

As for Aku like I really REALLY love his design so. much .One of the most iconics designs ever I SWEAR. Also love how much personality he has it's so fun he can I stantly switch between nightmare fuel to Saturday morning villain which is 10/10. Also the irreversible damage this mf caused to my brain years ago lol like that was pretty much one of the few villains that just made my brain instantly get interested in a show so MUCH it became more than just "wow cool show" . And honestly I think I liked him sm as a kid (and till now) is that he's literally everything I'm not ☠️ like man I wished I was like him , like dude has LAZER EYES . HOW COOL IS THAT???

Whether it’s The OG, Kai, GT, or the upcoming Daima, they’ll be lined up in their best shirts that are either patterned after Piccolo’s outfit or have the Z Fighters on it with their snacks by their side on the couch and engage with an all night marathon of episodes and films. Their favorite character is unanimously Son Gohan

3) Those two get along as good friends though from Jake hears about Conner courtesy of his Uncle Tim and ‘Aunite’ Cassie, whenever Conner inevitably screws up with trying to win a girlfriend off the streets with his egotistical charms and attitude, Jake gleefully takes the chance for snarking about that screw up, much to Conner’s conniption.

Aside from that though, the two make it a sworn oath on working together for making sure Chris is safe and secure from the threats even he’s too great to handle, whether externally or especially his own internal ones including tendencies of low self esteem and fears of abandonment. Conner and Jake are there for him no matter what

4) Much to even their own surprise, not exactly. Yes, there have been moments the two have gone separately from each other before reuniting in full but the thing is, they never had said to each other that they’re no longer friends. They’re never actively taking pot shots or any sort of bad mouth each other even during their lowest points in their friendship.

In fact, it’s because of their close friendship, it’s how they’re able to communicate the message of “Hey Man, I really like to hang out with you but I don’t if it’s the right time right now. Maybe a little later? Still love ya as a friend btw” with little to no words whether it’s face to face or via phone texts. They have mutual respect and understanding of those moments and take their time.

Once they have a chance though, like say in the middle of a crisis or few, they’ll rush to each other’s aid and make up for it once it’s all said and done. Even in a hypothetical Civil War between all the superheroes which has the two in opposite sides would have a similar pattern between them.

5) I once answered this in a earlier ask but I feel like it’s the perfect time for a sort of expansion to that list. Some names here would be old classics while maybe one or two would be OCs of mine for villains.

General Dru Zod (Chris’ birth father and somewhat arch nemesis due to his….very tough love approach to put it very very mildly think of their relationship akin to say Omni Man and Invincible)

Mr Victor Zsasz (Jake’s own Gotham based arch enemy due to a particular case involving street orphans and urchins forcibly fighting a gladiator style tournament to the death and Jake facing Zsasz face to face at the climax of said case, a duel involving a rather brutal beat down since Jake’s powers were shut down briefly that includes a sharp blade and that old damned crowbar)

The Gordanians (Since Jake’s mother is Kory aka Starfire, it should be pretty self explanatory and easy to understand his dislike for these particular aliens)

Deathstroke the Terminator (Similar enough reason to the Gordanians only in this case it’s via what he done to Dick throughout the years as a Titan, whether it includes the forced apprenticeship or other misdeeds)

The Court of Owls (not only due to both Mar’i and Jake being offsprings of the ‘Gray Son’ but they also can sense Chris somehow being a unique sort that distinguishes him from the other Kryptonians (I.e. his unique physiology courtesy of his birth in the Phantom Zone and being a host for the Nightwing entity) that they can claim for themselves, an evolutionary step in their arsenal of Talons)

Cinderblock (The big dumb concrete lug frequently challenges Chris and Jake for a challenge in Bludhaven’s streets which they’re all too happy to take. He’s fun for them to take on)

Xa Du, The Phantom King (As the main ruler of the Phantom Zone himself, he naturally sees Chris as an obstacle to his own path of universal domination)

NKVDemon (an ex-Spetznaz and apprentice of the KGBeast though his goals and methods are far more grand and widespread in comparison than his mercenary teacher’s. While not a cyborg like KGBeast or enhanced like Deathstroke, he’s dangerously intelligent, at peak human condition and utterly ruthless to the core)

Lion Master (a constantly bullied street orphan who ran to join a traveling circus where became the apprentice of an old kindly lion tamer, it all truly went downhill during one performance at Ivy Town when due to a simple mistake on his part, the kid ended up causing the old tamer’s unfortunate demise in front of the crowds, leading to him being kicked out of the circus he called home and the lions ordered in being out down. Not willing to see the felines he can call his friends meet their ends, the orphan frees the four big cats. Now with nothing left to lose and returning to the streets once more, the old tanner’s apprentice turns to a life of petty crime with his four kings of the jungle by his side and at his beckon command; competing his transformation into the Lion Master. Has a beef yet also somewhat a bond with Skybird due to their own connections to the circus yet Skybird and Nightwing ‘Phantom’ always foil his crimes)

La Llorona (‘The Weeping Woman’ herself; the Duo once encountered her during a vacation their families were taking in Mexico. A one time antagonist who they actually were able to communicate with in order to help her find peace with them but certainly a memorable one)

The monkeys and undead guardians of El Dorado (Ling story incredibly short, Time Travel shenanigans had Chris and Jake land in the a time lopping ancient city of gold with these monkeys and zombified warriors attacking the intruders almost every step of their way within their adventure to escape)

Vla-Bol (A Kryptonian juvenile delinquent who led an equivalent of a street gang doing all sorts of petty crimes and ruled their city streets/Hallways with an iron fist. At first, The Kryptonian High Coucil had Vla drafted into basically boot camp under the command of an ancestor of a certain Kryptonian General, Grand Admiral Gro-Zod. Unfortunately for Vla, despite or maybe because of taking the Admiral’s teachings and philosophy to heart, he went on committing plenty of bad conduct and failed to hold back his fury during war time as a Private. For this misconduct, Vla-Bol was banished to the Phantom Zone at the age of only 14 years, swearing vengeance on the House of Zod for this indignity. It just centuries later and once he finally is able to leave the Zone and find planet Earth, there happens on being a descendent of the old Admiral, Lor Zod aka Chris. Vla-Bol is an utter show off and Grade A jerk who flaunts his powers without any hesitation or second thought. Powers that are surprisingly deviant from standard Kryptonian ones as while yes he can fly, lift extremely heavy objects and exhibit super human speeds, for one he relies on Moonlight to fuel them. Also, in place of heat vision and x ray vision, Vla-Bol instead can make copies of himself composed of shadows and summon dark energy from the Zone itself, capable of leveling entire city blocks at the palm of his hands)

THE MUSTACHE GUY BASICALLY IS A CARTOON VILLAIN!!! HE HAS A WHOLE ASS MUSICAL NUMBER IN HIS DEBUT EPISODE. HE'S AMAZING. his name is remus (which isn't rly a spoiler bc he says his name like ten minutes after showing up) and he's so fucking funny i love him. due to Religious Upbringing and Catholic Guilt c!thomas has like 2 sides of his creativity, one side is Roman and the other is Remus, and remus is like c!thomas' intrusive thoughts and also his darker imagination like dirty jokes and interests in darker subject matter (he's got a wide range of Things that he does but he's mostly been shown as a representation of intrusive thoughts thus far) he's a silly funny guy i think u would love him very very much :33

Kung Fu Panda Legends of Awesomeness - "Father Crime"

Episode 21 Season 1

Synopsis:

When Shifu's father Shirong returns to the Jade Palace, Po thinks the family reunion will be so sweet. He soon learns that Shifu and his father don't get along.

Characters:

Kung Fu Panda is a franchise that is well known for tackling the subject of daddy issues and father-son relationships in general.

Master Shifu is very cold to his father, understandably so. The way how he talks about Shirong to his students like he's not even there. Or rather, he specifically speaks this way to get back at his father. It's not just bitterness and anger talking. He truly knows his father. The flicker of hope in his eyes when he saw the picture, the hurt when his predictions were confirmed, when his father came back, and them saying goodbye to one another. It was a roller-coaster of emotions.

Po is very invested in their relationship. In his fanboy fashion, he wants to know all the details about his master. When he learns about how complicated things are he tries to help. Po has a very strong bond with his father Ping, and master Shifu is like a father figure to him, so obviously he wants them to make up.

I think I got my wish. In the previous episode, I noted how the Furious Five tend to just blindly follow the master. Tigress did what she thought was right. She knows Shifu, he doesn't say it but if something bad actually happened to his dad or worst, died, Shifu would feel guilty.

By the way, the whole sequence with Po going to save Shirong only to run into Tigress who's doing the same thing and then switching to Shifu saving his father is phenomenal. It's ''subverting expectations'' in the best of ways, not like movies today where they lie to the audience. It's a great setup and pay-off.

This episode is my favorite so far. In the beginning, the series was just a Saturday morning cartoon with morals for the kiddies. The last couple of episodes are a non-stop study and expansion of characters from the movie and introduced in the show. Now let's hope the winning streak keeps going.

Villains: Fung and the Croc Bandits are still working for Tong Fo. They want to hammer home hoe creepy Tong Fo is with his eyes and getting up in peoples  faces, but I think he could be a lot creepier. He was scary when he started listing all the horrible stuff he’ll do with Shifu and intimidating Shirong.

Just bingewatched all of Centaurworld today. 😭WTF WAS THAT I WAS NOT PREPARED

Nowhere King’s species dysphoria and self-harm was so so fucked up and heartbreaking omfg ….. and the line when Mysterious Woman said she would’ve loved him the way he was wtffffdd… </3 anyway I kind of wish the speciesism stuff was wrapped up better though I understand they were limited with season 2 being the last and having to suddenly tie up the plot. OBVIOUSLY not trying to say mass murder is okay but …….. Nowhere King’s self-hatred wasn’t just “oh he wanted to be like humans and didn’t like the ‘nonhuman part’ of him because, he was insecure, MW may have not accepted him as anything but human” like? he was legit being discriminated against on a regular ass basis by humans and those interactions and feelings existed far before ever meeting MW. They didn’t come out of nowhere and NK’s spiral was a product of that speciesism. Once again, I get that they had to wrap up, but the “yay happy ending” is a bit idk. Unsatisfying IMO because I’m not 100% reassured that the same relations between the humans and the centaurs won’t re-emerge now that their worlds are joined again. Which honestly was the nastiest and deepest wound in the entire story but everyone seems to not really be focusing on it (the discrimination) so much as they are on the mental health and toxic relationship aspect. To leave it unresolved was sort of disappointing to me. Still, DAMN what an intriguing tragic villain he was. I loved Nowhere King and I think he’s very sympathetic and relatable depending on your relationship with identity.

Anyway, definitely not what I expected from a colorful bathroom humor cartoon. Jeez. /pos

hello may i have demon slayer match-up

have like a caramel colored skin-tone (i feel like saying im black may be easier but 🤷🏽‍♀️) and im 5’3. Honestly I don’t really have a type. Tbh most of my relationships have ended pretty badly cause they ether only wanted something sexual from me or I was “too clingy” when i just wanted basic ass affection. Im a libra sun, scropio moon, and gemini rising. I am a bit of a violent person at times but I have a punching bag and boxing gloves which help a lot. But I only get that angry when someone uses an insecurity of mine against me or is talking bad about someone i love, cause it you do that im beating your ass. I do have a bit of body insecurities mainly about my hip-dips and stomach. But because im curvy i get hit on by adults a lot and its creepy as fuck.

A/N: I've been wanting to do a KNY matchup, so let's do this. But first, can I just say that you sound like such a stunning person?? (You cannot tell me that you're not, I know I'm right) Your hair must be fucking incredible, I absolutely love mullets, and don't even get me started on how nice and fun of a person you seem to be [/pos]. Your request was a blast to read through, so I was pretty hyped for this matchup and knew off the bat who you would pair well with.

Inosukue! Honestly, it would be so funny watching the two of you interact at first; when you guys first meet (if I'm reading you correctly), he would be challenging you to some random ass competition off the bat, it doesn't matter where the two of you are. After seeing you kick ass (you can't tell me you wouldn't) during a fight with a few high-level demons, he'd take it as an indirect challenge and there would be no getting out of it. He would probably want to actually fight you, but you'd probably have him on the ground in, like, a minute, so all that would do is make him even more fixated on beating you in something.

For the next few weeks, he will turn everything into a competition, whether it's who can eat their dinner the fastest, who does the best in training (assuming you're not a hashira), etc. You humour him for a bit, maybe even the first two weeks, but after a while, it just gets tiring and even Inosuke needs a break at some point. He'd probably end up stumbling across you painting//drawing after a long day of training at the Butterfly Estate, and would just kinda watch you for a minute. While it’s truly out of character for him to be stunned into silence, just watching you so at peace and makes him wonder how you’re able to switch between your social and robust self to. . . something like the quiet, tranquil ambiance you had about you then.

But once he snaps out of it, he'd march over to you and ask what you were doing, that kind of thing. When you explain that you're just drawing//painting, all your free will of drawing what you want to is over, you get no more of that. He is forcing you to draw him, no matter how much you protest, and after you're done, he's parading around and bragging to EVERYONE that you drew him. To be honest, he wouldn't stop talking about it for the next few days, and if he ever needs a boost in an argument with someone (Zenitsu), he's bringing it up.

"You can't just take my food!" Zenitsu cried, clearly agitated and distraught over the fact that Inosuke had taken over half his meal after he had polished everything else off. Tanjirou had gone off to give Nezuko some food, which had left you in charge of watching over the two to make sure they didn't wreck some ancient hashira heirloom that was left lying around, but not even five minutes after and they were already looking like they were about to start swinging at each other. Inosuke, who barely even looked up from the stolen food before continuing his fervent attempts to eat everything in sight, grunted a low chuckle, clearly only encouraged by the lightning-wielder.

"Why not? You left it sitting there, so I called it," He responded between vigorous bites, the entire scenario only making you watch in flickering bemusement, torn between whether you should intervene or let it continue on. Entertainment while you ate was never something you could complain about, and this was certainly better than any play you could go see; besides, nature had to work it's course somehow, right?

"Rex-chaaannn," Zenitsu whined, his voice instantly gaining a more sugary sweet tone, rather than the course, unchecked one he had used on the boar head just a few moments ago. "Tell Inosuke to give me back my food."

You bit your lip in an attempt to hold back laughter when the accused slayer shouted something from across the table, "Shut up, Monitsu!"

The clearly incorrect pronunciation of his name sent Zenitsu into a fit, shouting practically unintelligible things from how fast he was talking, looking as though he were about ready to jump across the table to try and fight him when you burst into laughter, unable to contain it any longer. Inosuke spared you a brief glance, but the somewhat proud smirk that took residence upon his features as he continued to eat wasn't something that you exactly missed but chose not to point it out.

"I don't think there's much for you to eat now anyways," You finally commented after recovering from your fit of laughter, heaving an amused sigh when Zenitsu let out a noise of dismay.

"You can't keep taking my food, you simpleton!"

"Yeah I can, they drew ME, not you, so that's just another reason that I'm better than you!"

It would just be a love hate relationship between you guys; while you have your playful fights (both verbal banter and physical), you'r always there to back the other up in combat and Inosuke appreciate the support in his own, odd little way. For whatever reason, though, he still feels like he has to prove that he's better than you and insists that he just lets you stick around to give you something to do. When really, it's probably just the other way around.

I get the feeling that you'd probably throw your arm around his shoulders after a successful fight and boast about how you two did more work than Tanjirou and Zenitsu (playfully, obviously). Whenever you do that, it fills him with so much pride and for a second it doesn't register in his head for the first time, like?? 'They're not challenging ME? The hell's this about?' before realizing what you're saying and it only makes him more egotistical. He'd put up a weak front and say something like "Lord Inosuke did most of the work, Krex!" (the incorrect name </3) but wouldn't say much against you aside from that.

When you guys start dating and he gets introduced to physical affection, he gets so confused by what the hell it all means, but secretly enjoys your hugs nevertheless. After the two of you confessed, he would definitely brag about it and hold it over everyone's heads, like he did with the drawing, and it's just beyond humorous at that point.

Inosuke would 100% finally get your name right, and whenever anyone complains that he gets yours and not theirs, his knee-jerk reaction is always to respond with; "Yeah, 'cause they're important". Would cause endless conflict among people, but it's worth it seeing him be so stupid, insulting and caring all at the same time.

He carries you around a lot, especially enjoys giving you piggyback rides or parading around the Butterfly Estate with you hefted up on his shoulders, announcing to everyone that the two of you are "coming through". He will probably show you off a lot, because he just finds you to be such a great person and wants everyone to know that you exist and will be sure that no one cuts you off when you speak!!

He teaches you his breathing technique, change my mind.

As far as your ideal dates go, you're probably the only person who would be able to get him to sit still long enough for that kind of thing, let alone ENJOY it, but he's willing to do whatever makes you happy. (Don't be discouraged by however begrudgingly he may act when following after you to go to them, he's hyped to get to spend time with you) While he has his different ideas of fun, you always manage to persuade him to do that kind of stuff with him, and he'll almost always agree.

Nickelodeon All Star Brawl

... Is a game I am definitely excited for.

And I'm actually going to do a very big post to talk about things I am hoping to see in seeing in the game.

A story mode is what I hope most for this game, something akin to the Timmy Jimmy power hour or subspace emissary. With cutscenes, a good story, and an epic villain.

Here's what I think a story should be

Throughout the Nickelodeon version of Earth, great chaos is happening, The world is slowly breaking apart due to an unknown force. It turns out this is being caused by the collector, a being who is obsessed with Nickelodeon so much in fact that he wants to take it over. Now it's up to the Nickelodeon characters to save their world before it can be put on The collector's shelf.

Now the collector is the villain I made up for this, but don't worry there will still be villains from throughout the shows but some of them will be willing to put their villainous actions decide to not be put on a shelf. I wasn't kidding when I said that the big plan is to be put on a collector's shelf.

One major part of the story is everything takes place in the same world for this game. That means that there are aliens fairies ninjas talking animals, glitched video games, and all that jazz.

A couple of examples of the world crossing over since the game has one big connected world are...

Professor membrane finally having to come to terms that the supernatural exists

Da Rules being broken causing fairy world to be revealed

The Glitch Techs in the Game Shakers forming a partnership due to the common ground of games (I said it would make sense later)

Callbacks to previous crossover events

Time travel and alternate universe shenanigans causing multiple versions of characters to coexist

How does Nickeloden exist as a Cartoon channel in Universe

In acknowledgment of how Eliza Thornberry's powers work, due to the question of whether or not you can talk to characters like SpongeBob, Garfield, the Tuff Agency or CatDog

And a solid timeline of events that happen within the show.

I hope this is pretty accurate but I don't mind some alterations to my ideas that I will happen for the final game and its possible DLC.

I feel like bad AOT takes comes from the fact that... many leftists want to avoid accidentally stumbling into propaganda. Much as the Right-Winger co-opted the terms, WE took the red pill. WE learned the insidious truths behind how cop shows are written, how the military is written in movies. All to boister an image they can use to justify what they do behind the scenes or out in public. With AOT, anything about the military must condemn it with little ambiguity. (cont.)

(cont.) We're tired of giving The Powers That Be any benefit of the doubt. Reading the exposes about them, what are they if not the Saturday Morning Cartoon villains we grew up on? This is what leads to people taking others word for it when they describe AOT as "fascist propaganda." I would be willing to buy that if Hange Zoe didn't outright declare, "Genocide is wrong," without any real contradictions to her assertion.

Complete honesty here, Anon. While I think there are some valid points made in the overall discussion about Fandom and the handling of Nuance, there is something about this Ask that just.....bothers me. I had debated about whether or not to respond, and how I wanted to to do so.

I can’t quite put my finger on what bothers me about it. 

But putting that aside, I think Fandom Discourse struggles with Nuance on many levels. And you have varying degrees of critical engagement, from people who do not question or look beyond the surface AT ALL to the people that basically have a Critical Blog that does nothing but look for ways for things to be Bad and Wrong(tm). 

Somewhere between those extremes, is the need to balance “Turn my brain off and enjoy things” with recognizing how media can be flawed, whether intentional propaganda (ie: Military and Law Enforcement) or unintentional (ignorance of an issue). 

I think the online discourse around the Attack on Titan franchise is especially messy, because the source material itself is messy. I’ve spoken a little before about how choosing to parallel the Holocaust was a huge misstep, and one that is incredibly difficult to balance even when you ARE coming from a Western perspective. Using the historical atrocities and tragedies of other cultures also tends to be a hugely messy thing, because you are inherently filtering it through your own cultural lens and biases. 

Japan can be just as bad as Western media in terms of playing with something “foreign and exotic” without really understanding the deeper issues. There are numerous Japanese-produced works that have really unfortunate portrayals of things, because of a lack of familiarity or understanding of the deeper issues and history. Japanese media has long had trouble with racist portrayals of Black characters, not because of any malicious intention but because a lot of their exposure to Black people had been through (intentionally racist) American-produced materials. It’s gotten BETTER, so much better in recent years compared to the past. But it’s still a work in progress, because a lot of the historical context and deeper issues are simply not part of common knowledge for Japanese folks. 

Likewise, AoT stumbles into stereotypes involving Jewish people. Because these tend to clash with the messages in the series, I tend to lean towards Isayama simply being unaware of such implications. From what little we know about him as a person and his past mistakes (that he at least publicly seems to have acknowledged as mistakes), he seems very much like a typical 20/30-something Japanese dude that isn’t particularly worldly or informed about Politics on a deeper level. 

Over the years, I have definitely observed a tendency for people online to assume others have the same knowledge and understanding as them. But most people are really only going to have a surface/minimal understanding of history and issues, unless it happens to be something of deep personal importance to them. 

I’m a 30-something White Girl that has spent most of my life living in the suburbs in the South. For most of my life, there were A LOT of political and social issues I had very little understanding about. I am still learning and unlearning things, on a daily basis. I honestly cringe to think about my past self, and the things I didn’t understand or know about. Hell, I realized recently that an old photo of me taken before Homecoming in 11th grade has some interesting artwork in the background.

There were portraits of General Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson in our family room, growing up. We thought nothing of having them, and definitely weren’t a bunch of racist rednecks. We were a middle-class suburban family with a diverse group of friends. My parents definitely thought of themselves as Allies, and tried to stand up for the right thing whenever possible. 

I don’t remember exactly when it was that those portraits came down and got thrown out. Looking back, it’s definitely the kind of thing that makes us cringe because YIKES we didn’t even realize at the time it was bad. 

I guess my point with that little personal detail is trying to remind people that most of the time, things are a result of ignorance. America and Japan share an issue of actively not teaching people about social issues, and whitewashing history to conceal all the ugliness. Especially when it comes to another Culture, there’s so much opportunity to stumble into negative stereotypes or implications without understanding what you’re doing.

It nails one major issue of the “AoT is Nazi Propaganda” argument is that the framing is incredibly Eurocentric. Hajime Isayama’s politics and his understanding of issues are informed by the politics of Japan. tct final thoughts

oh boy this is gonna be a long one,,, i’m gonna begin with the things that i liked so that 1) it doesn’t feel like i just wasted my time when i could’ve been listening to literally to any of the hundreds of other podcasts im subscribed to and 2) this show did so many things right, i wouldn’t be as emotionally invested and fired up about it as i am if it was just  a purely garbage show

everyone in the cast gave just stellar performances especially adam and caleb’s actors,,, gosh that final confrontation in ep 19 where they had that big long talk about their feelings and it was so raw and real and genuine,,, how having mental baggage really just can fuck with a good healthy relationship no matter how much the people love each other and mean well

going into this show, i wasn’t looking forward to hearing about adam and caleb having been broken up cuz that just seemed, so out of character from where we last saw them in the original series,,, but i was pleasantly surprised with just how enjoyable their new dynamic as awkward exes that are still just completely in love with each other,,, i love this drama,, i love seeing these disasters inadvertently hurt each other (honestly it kinda worked too well cuz,,, more on that in the negative section)

CAITLIN! I love caitlin so much!!! and i just love her dynamic with adam,, i mean like, fried rice nights, shared google calendars, stressing out over essays that aren’t due for months,, i love these two!! also it’s so fresh cuz like,, usually it’s just the one nerdy loner character,, but here we get two and they’re just lovely for each other,,, lol i can totally see these dudes just moving in together and just getting married if they’re still both single by age 40 for the tax benefits

she was only in a couple of episodes,,, but i love love hearing joan again, especially that bit where caleb just infodumps at her all the shit he’s going through and she’s just 0_o that was such a fun throwback

minor thing, but the confirmation that the bryants are asian (when mark got oliver to take off his shoes when entering his house)

the soundscape and music was phenomenal! one of the most well done soundscapes i’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to,,, and the theme was stuck in my head all week

now,, all the things that i hated:

super mixed feelings about the bu crew,,,, im a fan of ride or die friendships, like what they were trying to go for here,, but like,,, the characters here aren’t very likable,,,

frankie’s flirting at caitlin came across as creepy rather than charming and it frustrates me so much that they got paired off by the end

i don’t get what ben’s deal is,,, i didn’t get much of their character outside of them being kidnapped and being a powerful atypical as plot device

and sadie’s just,,, she’s such a dick to adam and caitlin, constantly belittling and invalidating their feelings,,that line about her getting to be angry at adam and caleb but adam not being allowed to,,, just made my blood boil

also the characters act like she has just Very Good Takes:tm: on life and the human condition when they’re very much Not

honestly overall i don’t get what their deal is,, like what they’ve been through as friends, why they care for each other, how they got that way,,, and i don’t really have much reason to care for them

the adam caleb drama was so fun and like,,, honestly i was rooting for them to stay fucking apart by the end of the series,,, the weird pacing this show was going for made their ending feel super fucking rushed,, and they have way more fucking shit to deal with and talk about,,, and we’ll never get to see that cuz the show thought a tacked on ancient atypical cult conspiracy was more interesting,, which is a real fucking shame cuz what appealed so much about the original show is all the talking about feelings,,,

everything about the time fucking book and the atypical cult was not very compelling and felt forced and rushed and tacked on and there are so many plotholes,,, like,,, what are a bunch of fucking college kids gonna do about a conspiracy that’s been going on for generations,, and apparently even people like the am or the order can’t deal with them,, cuz they’re super hidden or whatever,,, but ppl just randomly hanging out in the library can fucking overhear all their bullshit

i was never given any believable explanation about why they can’t just ask the am to deal with this nonsense,,, when two very powerful people in the am care very deeply about the characters in the midst of this dangerous plot,,, and they already knew about it but did fucking nothing,,, and they keep fucking lampshading it but not actually address it. this whole nonsense felt like a ploy to get adam and caleb to talk to each other again when they seriously didn’t need it

blackwell was such a bad villain,, he was so melodramatic but not even in a fun way,,, and uggh,,, i can’t help but compare the new villains, this blackwell and hellen(?i can’t even remember her name) with the ones in the original series, wadsworth, agent green, damien,,, and the new ones feel like cartoon caricactures compared to how much nuance and depth and humanity the old antagonists were written with

also like,, the more information about the wider atypical world that’s laid out, the less fun and the less sense it makes,,, atypical secret societies are a thing??? and it’s also possible to find atypical communities online??? that just cheapens all of damien’s angst about being alone and not even knowing the word atypical until he met joan,, as well as how the order and the am value keeping knowledge of atypicals top secret, it doesn’t add up

it bothered me how they mentioned it should be impossible to turn a normal person into an atypical when like,, hello??? frank’s right there???

fuck oliver,,, there’s nothing fucking likable about this asshole,,he’s selfish, manipulative, a coward, smug,,, and not even in any charming or sympathetic ways,, he feels super tacked on,,, like he’s only there cuz the bullshit ancienty conspiracy plot demands it and i do not for one second believe any of the characters care about him

mark was just,,, so fucking under utilized,,, the characters always talk up caleb and mark’s brotherly bond, about how much they care for each other and how much he’s helped him out,, that’s really interesting i would actually like to fucking see it please,,, overall mark feels like his main point in this series is to just be an accessory to oliver

what the fuck do you mean that mark considers him his bestfriend?!?!? ano po?? tangina,, sam’s right fucking there,, and oliver has never shown in any genuine that he cares about mark and i don’t fucking see what mark sees in this guy

you know,,, all that fucking forced ship tease between these is literally the final nail in the coffin of my enjoyment of this universe,,, like you’re telling me that these two are actually gonna get together?? fuck that noise good fucking bye i want nothign to do with this series anymore

conclusion: i am just,, completely fucking done with this universe,,, honestly,, normally im not one to hate listen,, if i don’t like something,, i’ll just drop it and say it’s not my thing and move on..and im not one to just angrily yell about it into the void. but i can’t with this show,,, the original show really just meant the world to me,,, it was with me at some of the darkest points in my life and was one of the things that got me through em (cuz hey i can’t afford therapy and this show made a p good substitute at times asdkfljsad)..

i felt so betrayed,,, i really opened up myself to this one for all that. i should’ve learned my lesson after the disaster that was tama,,, the needless killing agent green was an indication of things to come,,, but i was cautiously optimistic for this show,, cuz it seemed they were going back to their roots by doing a story that’s more on just characters learning how to person and talk about their feelings,,, but oh god how badly was i mistaken,, they shoehorned another bs thriller action plotline when the characters by themselves were enough,,, and it seems that this is the direction this universe is taking,,, i want absolutely nothing more to do with,, im gonna unsub to the original feed and just block out all the tags and pretend i never interacted with this franchise in the first place

It is here David Munson is about to be condemned to death. [01:13 AM] Wack'd: (Also yes Deeden sounds like Deadend, this is its nickname, and what I'll call it because I'll probably just forget not to) [01:14 AM] maxwellelvis: Sounds more like Dee-Dee to me [01:15 AM] Wack'd: Anyway, David--or Davey as the priest calls him--is pissed because he didn't kill the guy he's being put to death for killing [01:15 AM] Wack'd: He killed lots of other people, sure, but not this one guy [01:16 AM] Wack'd: Anyway Davey gets electrocuted to death. [01:37 AM] Bocaj: Those meddling Avengers or Spider-Man [01:37 AM] Wack'd: Anyway, Johnny gives chase, and the guy says "there's no way the cops could pin that hit on me", and we're like halfway through the issue so I guess now Johnny goes home and does something else. [01:38 AM] Wack'd: Dishonest Abe was too stupid to memorize H's phone number so now Johnny has a lead in the form of said phone number. [01:39 AM] Wack'd: Finds the warehouse, takes out a buncha dumb thugs. [01:40 AM] Wack'd: Johnny, that's torture, and on top of being ineffective it's generally frowned upon.

[01:41 AM] maxwellelvis: Did he turn into a completely different guy for one panel? [01:41 AM] Wack'd: Looks like a coloring error, yeah [01:42 AM] maxwellelvis: Also, is Byrne the first guy to draw Johnny's eyes as glowing when he's the Torch? [01:42 AM] Wack'd: Maybe? [01:42 AM] Wack'd: Anyway H turns out to be a member of the Mafia. Or the Maggia I guess but fuck that it's the Mafia. [01:42 AM] maxwellelvis: That was a thing the first season of the 90's cartoon did, have his eyes and mouth glow like that. [01:43 AM] Wack'd: Oh hey, a Dick Tracy villains convention!

[01:43 AM] maxwellelvis: Hammerhead! [01:44 AM] Wack'd: Fight fight fight [01:44 AM] maxwellelvis: His one special technique won't be quite as effective against a guy who can fly and catch fire. [01:46 AM] Wack'd: He's able to go toe-to-toe with Johnny because he's got an exosuit. [01:46 AM] maxwellelvis: Ahh. Damn Maggia resources. [01:46 AM] maxwellelvis: But I like that Hammerhead isn't so committed to his gimmick as to commit tactical suicide here. [01:48 AM] Wack'd: Johnny manages to short-circuit the suit by melting some of its fuses. But Hammerhead doesn't realize his suit isn't working anymore and escapes by jumping off the building. [01:48 AM] Bocaj: And nothing of value was lost. [01:48 AM] Wack'd: He disappears before hitting the ground though and Johnny can't find him so he's probably fine. [01:49 AM] maxwellelvis: If he's got a power suit, he's probably got a teleporter. [01:50 AM] maxwellelvis: Anyways, that'd explain why Morrie was so worried as to specifically namedrop Spider-Man earlier. [01:50 AM] Wack'd: Anyway, here's the summation.

[01:50 AM] Wack'd: Given the issue opens with Johnny picking on Ben I was expecting, like, something about bullying being a slippery slope or Johnny at least reevaluating his behavior but no he's a good good boy [01:51 AM] Wack'd: I like the twist that the mom knew the whole time, though. [01:52 AM] Wack'd: A better story woulda, like, tied things up thematically on that end too. Maybe get Sue involved? But it's cute. [01:53 AM] maxwellelvis: It's a sign of something that so far your criticisms have been mostly possible missed opportunities or ways to hypothetically improve the story. [01:53 AM] Wack'd: Yeah [01:54 AM] Wack'd: I think to a degree the modern era of comics storytelling is still kinda coming into its own, Fantastic Four has been spinning through so many creative heads it hasn't really had time to catch up [01:55 AM] maxwellelvis: Yeah, this is still technically the Bronze Age. [01:55 AM] maxwellelvis: I think the Dark Age kicks in in the mid-80's, but there's no real crystalizing thing you can point to. [01:56 AM] maxwellelvis: Anyways, this is why I find John Byrne to be such a frustrating figure: [01:56 AM] maxwellelvis: There's no denying he's gifted, but he's just so unbearable as a person. Kung Fu Panda Legends of Awesomeness - "Enter the Dragon"

Episodes 46 and 47 overall

Synopsis:

Po and the Furious Five come across a Chinese Dragon from the Underworld named Ke-Pa who is invincible to the powers of kung fu, and it's up to Po to stop Ke-Pa from ruling China.

Po's got a big head and is behaving more like a celebrity than a protector of the valley. He also makes the biggest fuck-up ever. Po knows people might die. He's tasked with evacuating citizens. Instead of doing the sensible thing, he brags about how he'll protect them from anything. At last, there is no time for evacuation anyway as  Ke-Pa showes up in his pig form.

Fuck-up number two. Po thinks he can take Ke-Pa in his weakened state alone and doesn't call others for help.That gives him enough time to get his power back.

Normally I hate how villagers turn their backs on Po who saved them many times for doing something wrong. But this time they are totally justified in being angry.

Shifu goes off on Po for his irresponsibility.

The Furious Five's reactions fit their character perfectly:

Monkey is the one to defend Po. Saying how there's nothing wrong with pleasing fans. They’re best friends and, besides Po, he’s the most laid back.

Viper worries about Po and how he feels. She even argues that Shifu was too harsh for him.

Mantis is the one to call Po on his idiotic behavior. He tells the truth not caring if it hurts.

Crane just plainly states that they need Po to stand a chance against Ke-Pa.

Tigress is angry and disappointed with Po but knows they need his help.

We later find out he did it to protect Po and beat Ke-Pa. This plan includes Shifu sacrificing himself, so his students can have a chance. All of them love Shifu, especially Tigress, so seeing them reluctantly grand their master's last wish is powerful.  

Meanwhile, when Po is moping and listing all things he's lost his father comes to help. Mr. Ping has his flaws but moments like this show why he's one of the best fathers in animation. He reminds his son how he was able to become the Dragon Warrior against all odds. That inspires Po to go back.

Great two-parter.

Villains: Fung and the Croc Bandits show up at the beginning to get beaten and show how awesome Po is. Later they help Ke-Pa let the Underworld Demons free. Not out of their own will but the threat of getting eaten by Ke-Pa.

Ke-Pa is intimidating even in a pig form. A lot of it is thanks to the brilliant voice acting. They do this thing where he yells so much it creates an echo. Sometimes it’s fine other times it’s awkward.

He talks about taking their home back and letting his family go. Those wants of a hero, the main character of a cartoon or an anime. Then you remember he wants to kill everybody and rule over the world. Doesn't turn him good but gives him some layers.

His most evil dead was letting Po hit him and indirectly make the last paddle fall of the peach. Ke-Pa could do it himself. He just wanted to torment Po.

@pershiya-2000 OK, I’ll say this as simply and nicely as possible; dark skin does not equal Black. Not all people with dark skin are Black. As for “why” I decided to give Po dark skin, I just felt like it. Yes, the fur a panda has is white around the face, but “fur” doesn’t always have to translate into skin-tone when you draw a humanized character. It doesn’t even have to be turn into the hair color (when I think of Ice Bear from We Bare Bears, I actually imagine a human version with dark hair/skin, but white and light blue/gray clothing). If I wanted to dig deeper about character design, I think in the back of my brain there was a little bit of “The silly and chubby character is usually the side-kick, but Po is the hero. I’ve seen lots of characters with darker skin either be a villain or a side-kick, so this works for Po. He’s the hero, he has dark skin, he’s silly and chubby, he’s great”.

Next thing, and this is really important; actual real-life Black people have been called “monkeys” as a way to dehumanize them. There is a really big problem of racist people calling anybody who doesn’t look like them some kind of monster or animal. As a result, lots of old cartoons would have racist depictions of monkey/gorilla/ape characters coded as Black. Kids grew up seeing this, and it becomes hard-wired into their brains, so they continue this. I’ve see several different stories where people get animal powers, and the token Black character gets a gorilla. I’ve seen lots of humanized character designs of monkeys/apes/gorillas, and they are more often than not turned into Black people. No, not every body even realizes that they are perpetuating something racist when they do this, and that is the problem. If you aren’t aware of what you are doing or why, you just keep doing it. So here is a friendly FYI; making the monkey characters into Black people/turning Black people into monkeys is racist. Just so you are aware. The other thing; the phrase “black face” is, whether you knew this or not, also racist. For a very long time, white people would smear dark make-up on their faces and act as ugly caricatures of Black people. This is still done to mock them, but it also happens in other ways (white girls tanning as dark as possible and calling themselves “Black Girls”, and the general issue of white people in fashion stealing from other cultures and being praised, while people who are actually from those cultures get called slurs). So, another friendly FYI; “black face” is incredibly offensive. 

I specifically made Monkey very light to AVOID a racist depiction. I was not always aware of what the connection was between monkey cartoon characters and racist caricatures was, but now I am, so I chose to do the opposite. I care about how something like that would make people feel, and I know that it is WRONG to do something like that, so I didn’t. I’m not smart or special for doing that, it is just what happened. Not everybody is fully aware of the connection either, which is why I am doing this as a friendly “For Your Information”. If you didn’t know, now you do, and knowing is half the battle.

Look, I said please, you used a bunch of exclamation points to try and convince me that I shouldn’t give certain characters dark skin, I don’t know what else to tell you. I don’t really care that you don’t like what I drew, but what I really am concerned about is that you seem to be very OK with just telling random artists “Don’t make this character black!”, and that is a pretty harmful thing to say to somebody. For the sake of other artists, and for yourself, please think about why that isn’t polite, and PLEASE understand why this can influence racist ideas
