If you had to write Helluva Boss, what would you change?
Get ready for a long ass rant. I’m actually planning on doing a full rewrite of Helluva and Hazbin with redesigns as well. But the major things I would change for Helluva are:
Blitzos and Stolas’ relationship: How they met will be the same as “The Circus” but they actually form a bond. Like, Blitzo is bored from being forced hanging out with Stolas by Paimon but after Stolas shows him his interest for pirates, he immediately becomes interested and they talk and play pirates like little kids do and Stolas falls for him even more. Then after they met again in the timeskip, instead of Stolas getting sexual and Blitzo SA’ing him, Stolas tries talking with Blitzo and telling him how much he missed him and even confesses his love for Blitzo but notices that he is trying to steal the Grimore and decides to make a deal with him that Blitzo could have the Grimore but meets Stolas once a month on the full moon to give the book back and just hang out. They do eventually fuck after a while but they actually both consent. While Stolas actually loves Blitzo, Blitzo wasn’t interested at first but as they continue their relationship, he actually starts slowly gains feelings for Stolas, but due to trust issues and his dark past, he tries to hide it.
Striker: He is going to remain mostly the same, but there are some changes I want to add. First off, he doesn’t make fun of Moxxie for not having much physical advantage like he did in the introduction episode, in fact, he actually gets along with him and relates to him. And second, his plan for stopping the Goetia family and bring equal rights to all creatures of hell will remain, but he won’t be presented as the bad guy, more of a gray area at first, then he realizes that Stolas isn’t like the rest of the Goetias and regrets trying to kill him before.
Millie: As shown in the show, shes just violent and loves Moxxie to death. While that’s great and all, there needs to be more outside of her relationship with her husband. In my version, she very overprotective of those she loves, violent, loves her husband to death, has family issues, sibling rivalry, especially with Sallie May, secretly has self confidence issues, sometimes speaks unclearly due to her verbal problems, on the autistic spectrum, has severe anger issues, and hates being alone. Also, the reason why she hated Chaz so much was because he has secretly cheated on her multiple times and all Millie wanted was someone to truly love her.
Blitzos relationship with Moxxie: It’s mostly the same, but Blitzo doesn’t call Moxxie the r-slur, isn’t ableist towards him, doesn’t SA him, doesn’t threaten to rape him, and actually treats Moxxie better after the events of “Truth Seekers” and even forms a good, healthy bond with him.
Sallie May: I think she’s cool and all but I wished that she had more character since she was merchandised so much. In my rewrite, she’s actually going to be shown as an actual character. She’s going to be shown as confident, high mighty, has a sibling rivalry with Millie but she cares for her and even killed for Millie before.
Stella and Octavia: For Stella, she won’t be shown as a complete antagonist. Stella was arranged to marry Stolas since they were children but she wasn’t a complete monster, though she had anger issues. Stella actually cares for him and Stolas and Stella actually had a pretty good, healthy relationship before he cheated on her. She was heartbroken after that and the reason why she hired Striker to kill Stolas was because the family manipulated her too. For Octavia, everything’s the same, except that in my rewrite, she doesn’t completely forgive Stolas but she doesn’t hate him and Stolas actually improves as a father and he and Octavia slowly start to have a good father daughter relationship again. I know that was a lot. I like to rant so if you want me to share my ideas for my Hazbin rewrite, expect more of my rants.

OMFG do you have any examples for the "aang is actually white" argument it sounds so stupid i'm genuinely curious how they even thought that (you don't have to if you don't want to i just reaaalllly don't wanna go in that wretched tag to see for myself)
HELLO!! I can't provide SS right now (Because honestly, I'm drained out searching for it) But I can explain to you where it comes from, it derives from the "Bryke self insert" Idea, on how they based Aang off of Michaels face, even though the entirety of the ATLA world is all asian-centric, and Aangs culture being heavily influenced by buddhism makes him canonically Tibetan!
His face proportions and overall demeanour was also based and referenced off of a black Chinese boy named "Arjuna Kisu"
Tumblr media
---
I think as a way to devalue him, they used the "self insert" Argument to call Aang white (Which has heavily racist connotations)
The take got even more popular after LoK released Aangs adult design in which he has predominantly white features and resembles Michaels beard. But his face was never angled off of that, and while I agree, he was whitewashed, (That design sucked ASS) So was every character in LoK (Having similar noses, and face features) Etc. So this had no connection with any "self-insert" BS. They just want a reason to continue devaluing him as a character and his culture, and what better ways to say that by saying he's actually "white"

John Garrideb.
That’s all I need to say.
Okay, I’m going to say a bit more than that because, although we all know and love the famous scene he causes, John Garrideb himself isn’t the most well-known.
I’m going to get on the name after I’ve explained his plot line, but I’m just going to add that (as well as being a J villain), his name is the same as Watson’s (obviously) BUT one of his aliases is James Winter (double J villain).
J Garrideb is introduced as a client who was searching for two other men with the same name as him (Garrideb, not John- he would only have to look at this blog to find about ten other Johns).
‘Mr. John Garrideb, Counsellor at Law, was a short, powerful man with the round, fresh, clean-shaven face characteristic of so many American men of affairs. The general effect was chubby and rather childlike, so one received the impression of quite a young man with a broad set smile upon his face. His eyes, however, were arresting. Seldom in any human head have I [Watson] seen a pair which bespoke a more intense inward life, so bright were they, so alert, so responsive to every change of thought. His accent was American, but was not accompanied by any eccentricity of speech.’
He didn’t actually call for Sherlock, but another Garrideb, Nathan, asked for him. J Garrideb wasn’t too happy about that and complained to Sherlock, but eventually relents and lets Sherlock get on with it.
When J Garrideb leaves, Sherlock proves that practically everything he said was a lie, and that J Garrideb hadn’t finalised his backstory yet.
First, he said he put advertisements in the newspapers for other Garridebs- he didn’t.
His outfit makes it seem like he’d been in London for a while- his documents and own statements said he’d only just arrived.
He claimed to know an American doctor that Sherlock mentioned- Sherlock made up said doctor.
Combining all that and the fact he didn’t want Sherlock involved, it’s not making J Garrideb look too good. And so he isn’t: Sherlock discovers that J Garrideb is in fact ‘‘Killer’ Evans, of sinister and murderous reputation.”” as Sherlock puts it. His other aliases are, as mentioned, James Winters and Morecroft. Remember the names.
Sherlock explains his backstory.
“Aged forty-four. Native of Chicago. Known to have shot three men in the States. Escaped from penitentiary through political influence. Came to London in 1893. Shot a man over cards in a nightclub in the Waterloo Road in January, 1895. Man died, but he was shown to have been the aggressor in the row. Dead man was identified as Rodger Prescott, famous as forger and coiner in Chicago. Killer Evans released in 1901. Has been under police supervision since, but so far as known has led an honest life. Very dangerous man, usually carries arms and is prepared to use them.”
It is later explained that ‘Killer Evans’ needed Nathan Garrideb to leave his house so he could get to a forgery which was hidden underneath the floorboards. The house previously belonged to the man he killed, Rodger Prescott, and Killer Evans was going to steal the forged money.
A very elaborate and detailed story about the Garrideb inheritance, just to get an old guy obsessed with history out of the house.
So, now I’ve gotten the storyline out of the way, I’m going to go into a very wild and obscure theory. Warning: it’s extreme and stupid and doesn’t make sense to anyone apart from me. I understand if you’re not going to torture yourself by reading it.
I mentioned the aliases: John Garrideb, James Winters, Morecroft and Killer Evans. For the sake of this theory, I’m going to call him Evans, since I think that’s most likely his name (not the killer part, though, that’s just a nickname). Evans created the name Garrideb so it worked with his crazy story and matched Nathan Garrideb’s.
So, why John?
If you search up ‘most popular male names 19th century’ you get a link to a social security website, where the first name is John. I mean, with the amount of Johns I’ve written about, I think I’ve given definitive proof for that.
Simple enough, then: John Garrideb.
But what is the need for James Winters and Morecroft?
Remember the time that Mary Morstan (yes, the ‘wife’) called her husband James in The Man with the Twisted Lip? I’m sure it’s a very common mistake to mess up your spouses name, and then your spouse doesn’t even correct you, it’s fine, Mary.
Sometimes, it’s easy to dismiss these continuity mistakes as just mistakes, but it’s funner to imagine that ACD had an actual reason for them.
So, we have a murderer who has two aliases: John and James. John is the one he’s introduced with, and James is only briefly mentioned. Then we have a doctor, with one name he is always called, and one which he was accidentally called on one occasion.
Yes, I know James was also a common name (it’s third in the list of most popular names) but I like writing theories that are very unlikely, I don’t get out much.
I’m not suggesting Evans was a mirror of Watson, but Evans was also the man who tried to kill Watson, and brought about the ‘Garridebs’ moment. And, let’s be honest, how could ACD write that not thinking it was even the slightest bit romantic?
Then comes the last alias (yes, I’m still going): Morecroft.
I failed to find the name Morecroft on my trusty social security website, and when I searched it up, only pottery results came up. So, Morecroft, not a popular name. Who else had unpopular names?
Sherlock and Mycroft.
Mycroft was apparently popular a decade before the books were written, but neither were popular at the time of writing. And Morecroft? I’m not even sure if anyone had that name. But, it sounds very similar to Mycroft.
I promise, I have a point.
Evans therefore used two popular names as aliases and one unpopular. He was a known liar and forger of the truth, making mistakes in his stories and-
Mistakes in stories? Continuity errors? Forger of the truth? Lies?
Where have I heard of that?
Cough cough ACD.
No, I’m not suggesting ACD was a murderer now. I will get there eventually.
Evans had reasons for his lies, he was trying to succeed in something. But the only thing he does succeed in is gifting the world with the Garridebs moment. So, he’s using false names that are either the same or similar to important characters in the canon.
I’m being very extreme, but maybe ACD was telling us something?
Maybe, like Evans, ACD is making these blunders in his stories for a reason? And maybe, like Evans, these lies will lead to one thing: Sherlock and Watson?
Or, I’ve had too much caffeine today, and I’m making a big deal out of nothing. Anyway, enjoy today’s post if you can, I promise I’m not crazy.

Omg I agree so much with q and Wilbur when they are talking about doing what you like as opposed to analyzing numbers and creating content FOR the public. I think that's what I'd do if I was in that position and I admire that attitude so much. Creators should more often say fuck what the people say and do what they like and genuinely enjoy.
I think that's also why I don't like what mrbeast is doing. I'm a bit unsure about dream hanging out with him so much because I don't want him to turn into something similar. But opposed to the beast, dream seems to genuinely enjoy analysing the statistics and hacking the system, and also he just has fun in his videos and it shows.
Karl on the other hand is a very interesting case. Because he's working for mrbeast, for sure, he's deep into the making money and numbers machine but he also has his passion projects, like the animations and comic book. Also his live streams seem like something he enjoys, even if sometimes he is so exhausted because of all the work he puts himself under. But his youtube channel.. all the beast imitators make me really wary. (Like what the hell new purpled channel even is?) I know Karl probably puts his heart into it but it being in the 'keeping audience attention' style, makes it seem so insincere and impersonal. Idk I really hope he doesn't feel like he NEEDS to do the youtube thing because he'll fell off or something... He already dose so much..

so when straight people ask me why I say I’m “queer” or “gay” instead of sharing my actual identity as a panromantic demisexual non-binary sapphic queer I just tell them “ok look, when you’re talking to someone who isn’t local and they ask you where you’re from and you either say the name of the largest city nearby or ‘town name, suburb of large nearby city’ so they can get some geographical context of where you’re located right, bc they’re probably not going to know the name of the little town you actually live in.”
but if you’re talking to a local you can say the name of your actual town bc they have a greater chance of knowing where/what that is.
ok well when I’m talking to a straight person I start with queer bc chances are they aren’t as familiar with the context of all the little towns in that big queer city and need gps (gay positioning system) to find me.
if I’m talking to another queer person and I say I live in a suburb of gay city in a town called panromantic on the demisexual side of the tracks which is in the county of queer and I live off the intersection of non-binary and sapphic, they’d probably be able to find me with little to no problems, make sense?

I hate that the "Gen Alpha can't read." conversation so much because people are taking this as a chance to call children stupid and their parents monsters instead of having a very real discussion about how the education system is flawed by design, covid fucked up everything socialization wise, these parents having little access to child care and more work hours leads them to lean on things like tablets and phones to watch their kids more and more, teachers are more overworked and underpaid than ever leading to them leaving the profession in droves and that's only like the surface level issues. There's a myriad of factors at play here, not just that "The kids are spoiled screen-addicted brats with no imagination and their parents are childish spoiled millennials who just let coco melon handle everything."

when u go to write a mentally ill person in ur story you are presented two options. the first option is to write your mental illness realistically as you actually experience it with all the ups and downs and people who are like you will resonate with it and feel seen. except every person who reads instagram infographics on mental health that uses the phrase narcicisst for anyone who does anything that crosses them and unironically call themself a dark empath will call you scary and tell you that youre demonizing mentally ill people
the second option is to lie and write inspiration porn for those people to get hard to

considering how many transmascs were legitimately way angrier BEFORE starting T and have since calmed down significantly have we perhaps considered that maybe the reason so many cis dudes are angry and aggressive isn't because of testosterone but maybe. like. personal issues. unmet needs. a social climate that teaches them that there are only like three acceptable emotional outlets for men max and one of them is being angry and shouting

everyone should attempt an artisan craft at some point in their life because it would cut down the number of comments questioning why handmade goods like ceramics or textile craft or woodworking are so expensive
and this is an unrealistic expectation, but I think the attempt should include seeing through to the end at least one "finished" item, no matter how clumsy or lumpy your first attempts might be. like to me, there's a huge difference in perspective between attempting to learn how to crochet or throw a pot for a few days, acknowledging that it's harder than it looks and giving up, versus committing to finishing that scarf or clay pot you started and working on it for weeks while you painstakingly learn from your mistakes and grow attached to your project while also simultaneously hating it.
once you finish the latter, your perspective changes from "why does this crocheted blanket cost $200" to "holy shit I can't believe they're charging $200 for this crocheted blanket instead of $2000" because you may have known crocheting is hard, you may have easily agreed with the idea that "handmade goods take time and effort" even before attempting a craft, but now you know firsthand the absolute time sink it takes to make things. like yeah dude, that one item took you 2 months to make and probably wasn't even an ultra complex item if it was the first thing you made, now imagine attaching an hourly wage to that time to calculate the cost (and this is ignoring every nuance of the artistic element and master crafters being able to work faster/charge higher because of their years and years of experience)
anyway this rant has been motivated by a comment I saw on someone else's ceramic post asking why a mug was $60 and they understand it's handmade but $60 just seems overpriced, and bro do you know how long ceramics take to make. that mug probably took at minimum 3 weeks between how long it takes to throw the mug, dry partially, trim the mug, dry fully, bisque fire, wait a day for the kiln to cool, sand and paint and glaze, glaze fire, wait a day for the kiln to cool, take product photography of the mug, write description and list the mug online for sale, im not even including the skill needed to complete all these steps without the mug literally exploding or collapsing while also making it an appealing piece of art, aaaaaaaaaaaaa

Enough random notes that have a written story on them as environmental storytelling, explore the space, get crazier with it.
You move into a house and aw cute, it has the kids height on the walls but you notice there's a three foot difference in height between measurements, you check the date, they're a month apart. The final measurement is on the ceiling. It's dated two days ago.
You're part of a recovery team that have finally found a stranded ship, they were found too late and have all passed a long time ago. They all died of starvation. You enter their storeroom, it's filled with food. In the dining hall you find the tables laden with perfectly fine looking breads, cakes, cured meats, jams, candies. Your medic says all the people sitting at the table didn't eat a Thing.
You wake up in an apocalypse. You can't find anyone at all as you wander the streets but you do hear faint music playing from somewhere. You stumble into a supermarket, to see all the aisles still full, except for the shelf that was full of ear plugs, which look to be the only thing that was looted.
Like there's light, sound, props. Having a street where every house is decimated except for One. Landing on a planet known for having No Water and a plant is growing and you don't know where it could have possibly gotten moisture from but you can't find the citizens Anywhere.
I'm sorry, I'm just kinda over the "graffiti on the wall to show the bad guy is around". That's not environmental storytelling that's just normal story. Show me I'm in the villains territory by the rain suddenly cutting out above me as I'm driving, even though it's meant to be raining all night. I park the car and step out, and realise the constellations are Wrong, until I see they're Not constellations, they're the blinking lights of a massive ship-
I Will stop now because everytime I go to write a sentence it devolves into another prompt but I'm just saying we have a Lot of senses, engage them, show me the Environment in environmental storytelling.

To illustrate this post by @mayahawkse I would like to visualize to you the difference:
A post in 2023:
Tumblr media
A post in 2014:
Tumblr media
A zoom out of the same post:
Tumblr media
This is what a community looks like.
See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn't need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.
It's not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it's the type of interaction people have. They're content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.
Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.
If you want more of something, reblog it.

Fandom is so different now and it’s becoming un-fun with how quickly shit moves.
I just want to enjoy things. I don’t want to have to play a game of Artist-Race that seems to be afoot lately.
Ya’ll eat up fandoms, leave artists and writers bone dry and then move on so fucking quickly then fucking wonder where all the Good Fandom Stuff is.
Idk Maybe cherish some things for longer. Reblog stuff. Interact with people. Comment and share.
Fandom is Capitalism now and I’m not being nuanced.
