1 - sort of a color study of a Forces screenshot cuz i thought the lighting was cool, but also its for a friends rewrite of the game!

2 - idk, i just wanted to draw hipster sonic from Boom except with modern sonic :P

3 - a silly concept for Prime! i have a headcanon that, after Sonic left the shatterverse, it sorta "reset" and repaired itself, and because of that it gained back the people it lost when it was originally shattered, aka Sonic and Shadow were brought into those timelines! the guy i drew here is named Breeze and hes from New Yoke -- Nine calls him Breezy :)

4 - a sorta-redraw of a screenshot from Boom. i just wanted to draw the bros hugging <3

8 - ive been watching Sonic X and i absolutely fell in love with that little guy Bokkun so! i made a redesign of him if he was canon <3

*rubs hands together* ALRIGHT HERE WE GO (I'm sticking with the hedgehog gang for this one because I kid you not this will go on forever xD)

I'm pretty sure this is a obvious one, and most can agree one of the cutest. HEDGEHOGS. CAN. PURR. And I love it sm. They are really social creatures so they need buddies, and lots of too, to explore of course! :D They also have poor eyesight, which can make it a bit tricky sometimes to navigate, but their keen sense of smell covers that for them. They can even swim very well, unlike ONE hedgehog. lmao.

I like to think the reason Amy confused Sonic for a lot of people, lmao. Is because she had poor eyesight, I imagine when she was younger, even before she met her friends, she had a bit of trouble seeing where she was going.. so she relied on her other senses. Sonic and the gang definitely got her some contacts lol. (Sonic has bad eyesight too, he gets it.)

Silver doesn't understand why he likes forging around for things, even in his future, he just loves to collect things. When he goes to the past I think is inner adventurer just explodes when he sees nature for the first time. He adores it. He picks up ANYTHING wrappers, sticks, plastic bags, flowers, you name it, he probably has it somewhere. Lmao I like to imagine whenever Blaze comes over to his garden he just decorates it with the most random shit and she's like. TF??? (they are sibling coded to me btw <3)

Sonic is the package deal, he's been doing hedgehog things since he was a kid. Running around at the speed of sound, exploring new places, ect. But, the one thing he grew up with was loneliness for some time. My BIGGEST headcanon for him, was that he washed up on Christmas Island, he was raised by Chao basically, and played a lot with human junk that washed up on the island. Since he was in the ocean for what seemed like FOREVER to the poor baby. He's TERRIFIED to even go near it. So he makes his home in an abandoned cargo plane. (similar to OVA) He can't stand running around the small island anymore so he finds a broken down Bi-plane. (future tornado ik im a genius lmao) follows some old ass instructions that he cant rlly read cuz hes like 5. And he takes off and crashes the plane near the closest continent shjshs. HES FREEEEE. well, until he runs into a lil fox and adopts him.

As for Shadow? Well.. he hears about all these "hedgehog" things, from Sonic or maybe from other hedgehogs he runs into or overhears. But, he just doesn't understand it. It doesn't click. And its not like he really cares that much but, it bothers him. So he does the unthinkable and asks Sonic directly. Who in turn laughs and tells him that, sure, he may be half alien or like lizard for whatever... but he's still a hedgehog. An even COOLER hedgehog! He doesn't have to do those silly hedgehog things to prove that. He explains its just kinda second nature anyway.

(Also, this is more of a shippy headcanon lmao. But Sonic and Shadow definitely, unknowingly, court eachother hedgehog style. Which includes lots of chasing, circling, and headbutting. LIKE COME ON ITS SO OBVIOUS--)

knuckles’s voice is so off putting at first. It was like a jumpscare. I love it though. ova voices my beloved <3 ouuuu i have only like 10 more minutes of it left but im going to wchool now so i have to wait

Todays a half day though so I get out at like 11 then i can finish it

fym 6.3/10 this movie is amazinf

The only things I dont like about it are the things that are different between the classic universe and the modern one because I’m used to modern sonic. But in the 46 minutes I’ve watched of this movie, my opinion has drastically changed. So far I’d give this thing a 8.7/10

I never actually knew why metal’s “spines” pointed like that since I’ve only ever seen him compared to modern sonic. Now I get it. He was designed as a counterpart for CLASSIC sonic. (Or ova sonic since I think ova sonic looks a little different than the other classic sonic design??? Maybe??? I cant tell)

10. Metal Sonic - My luck with hedgehog characters in this hedgehog-adjacent franchise is so unlucky that my favourite of the lot is the mute robot based on one of them. Metal in himself may not be much of an actual individual, aside from when Heroes decided to try changing it in the worst way possible, but like with Ariem, I just think he's neat, and after all the milking with Shadow's overhyped backstory, I kind of appreciate Metal's simplicity. Plus, OVA Metal is a bad motherfucka. I think it's more than possible to expand on Metal without making him an usurper or giving him inappropriate dialogue.

9. Erazor - Proof that I don't instantly dislike non-Eggman villains, the reality is that the vast majority of them are genuinely shite. This guy isn't though: he's what Mephiles isn't, a cunning yet sadistic force who does a good job antagonizing Sonic, and his connection with Shahra has the double whammy effect of making you feel for her while also wanting to beat his ass. He's what a good villain should strive to be.

8. Whisker - Why do I keep saying he's a better Eggman Nega than the actual Eggman Nega? Because he is. Despite his appearance, Whisker actually has his own personality, and was at least built by Eggman rather than being another guy from another world who inexplicably looks like him. He also has a banger of a boss theme that too many fans sleep on, because I guess they forget that non-vocal boss tracks exist.

7. Zor - Legitimately funny dialogue, I won't hear otherwise. You know what happens when it gets lumped in with the critiques surrounding the other D6 members? You get IDW's unironic edgelord Zor in an effort to "improve" him. Thanks for nothing, fandom.

6. Gamma - Gamma walked so that Shadow could get shilled to the point of exhaustion.

5. Heavy Gunner, Heavy Shinobi, and Heavy King - What I said about the other two applies here. I've said it so many times, but how is it that these guys were able to show so much character despite having no dialogue, whereas many other characters struggle with dialogue?

4. Vector - He's one of those characters who has an inherently fun atmosphere. Also has a surprising amount of lore and depth for the guy who gave us "DON'T GO THERE... YET".

3. Omega - He's continued going upwards in my favourites as time has went on, because he's one of the most low-key hilarious and cleverly written characters in the series. When he said "That's a load off my back", I felt that.

2. Tails - Another character who doesn't get (the right) shit in most adaptations. Tails deserves to be just as badass as Sonic, and he doesn't need to sacrifice his friendly tech-loving persona in order to let that happen. All you need to do is stop relying on super form hedgehogs for everything. *glares at Frontiers*

- after they're official I feel like their dynamic would basically stay the same cause cmon they were pretty much dating before. only difference is now wallace gets to full on make out with him and give him a little more forehead kisses than he did before. at first I feel like scott would act annoyed or maybe not annoyed but dismissive of the little kisses not cause he didn't like them but bc he acted like he didn't like them before they're dating and he feels the need to keep it up. he doesn't wanna give wallace that satisfaction of I told u so u obviously enjoyed them. but either when scotts sick or even tired or whatever wallace gives him a little kiss and Scott pathetically is like another plsss ☹️☹️☹️. Top Hat's Thoughts of Sonic Prime season 3 - Spoilers

INFINITY/10 - Dread was there for a great amount and that's all I need! Such grace, such elegance, and knuckles! 😍

(Ok I'll be a bit serious)

I really liked the season, i kinda prefer the prior seasons though due to the better pacing but it was still pretty fun

It was kinda cringe (for me personally) seeing Nine spout out the classic bad guy one liners (you know the ones) but it didn't bother me too much!

What DID kinda bother me was how certain things just get solved sometimes and it's not just this season! (E.g Rusty's redemption in season 2, Nine's redemption, and whatever the hell the resistance did to get Dread out of his depressive funk at the start of the season 3 off screen)

Quick side note, but did anyone notice the fact that SP kinda referenced the Abridged Sonic OVA twice?!?! That's pretty neat!

The Chaos Council is iconic, they are too flawless to have anything wrong with them and I need a sitcom with just them!

Shadow was such a chad for carrying Sonic to safety and honesty I think the show was definitely written by a Sonadow fan! (Go ahead, prove me wrong once you see how Shadow holds him so delicately in his arms)

I also seized the opportunity to call Grim Big, "Notorious B.I.G" nyehehe

The Roses were fun to see as they teamed up, but the part with Rusty and releasing the bird from her center kinda made me stare in confusion because:

1. Please tell me you've been feeding that bird!

2. Your journey of self reflection literally went like this - "I love the Chaos Council" *Chaos Council leave her* "I hate the Chaos Council"

Look, I'm not expecting her to be this completely complex antihero or anything but holy shit! She's a goddamn robot made by and for the Chaos Council, how did it only take a minute after they desert her for her to switch sides??? At least with Nine, you can make some excuse that it was "human" emotion (even though I'm surprised that EVERYONE forgave him quickly) but I'm pretty sure a literal robot can't just speedrun a Zuko simulator

So yeah, as you can tell, that bird speech didn't mean shi- -ANYWAY! Overall, Sonic Prime as a whole was "way past cool ", I need a Chaotic Council spinoff, Dread Supremacy, Notorious B.I.G, I had nothing to complain about for the Rouges (they were fantastic), And justice for the birb!

I'm interested in your views on Sonic as a character. Which games or other media stay true to his core character?

Sonic is cool :)

And I don't mean just cool in a "totally radical" way, or in a "look how awesome his feats are!" way. It's just... he's a friend. He's supportive and optimistic and a full believe in the Superpower of Teamwork™, cocky yet polite, helping others because that's just what he wants to do. Sonic has no moral code, he doesn't operate on hero logic: he does good because he wants to do good, it ain't that deep fam. This is why IDW's portrayal of his as someone who has strong principles about freedom is just OOC - it's not a principle! It's not something that holds him back! He will kick your ass and imprison you in a lamp for all eternity if you proved yourself to be unredeemable! But then you contrast this with how he rejects Tikal's plan of sealing Chaos in the Master Emerald again because that won't make its anger vanish. giving him a super lobotomy to calm it down worked, though

Secret Rings, Black Knight and Unleashed have probably my favorite portrayal of Sonic. The first one shows well his friendship with Shahra, how he put himself in harm's way for her as soon as he met her and got cursed on her behalf, how he could empathize with her and her ambiguous history with Erazor Djinn and didn't hold it against her for not being able to let go of him; the second one is nearly unanimously considered to be the best Sonic of all time, because it actually shows the freedom and strong will of his character, how he's willing to be "the bad guy" in a story if that means doing what he thinks is right, and his surprisingly poignant views on mortality; and as for the third one, his line "Do I need a reason to help out a friend?" is just him in a nutshell :)

Also, I'm still not fond of how they relegated him to wooden secondary character in '06, but I can't deny his relationship with Elise is cute for what little we see - he meets this girl who has been forced into the role of the reserved queen since she was 7 and he teaches her how to have fun and let go of her worries! And Elise is so inspired that at one point she jumps out of Eggman's Egg Mobile to get away from him! Sonic is just this strong positive influence on other people and it's just. ugh. he's so friend shaped <3

Of all adaptations, Sonic X is the one who got the closest to capture this - not surprising, since it's the only Japanese adaptation we have so far and it was the most closely supervised by Sonic Team. It's not perfect, it has its weird moments like Sonic manipulating his friends because he really wanted to get off a boat, but he's overall nice and supportive as he should be. Episode 14 is a must watch to get Sonic.

The OVA is nice too? A bit more dated, and Sonic is just a little more prickly, but other than that I have no issue with his character - the ending is a standout.

Anyway. Sonic is the character of all time. I love my boy so much, I've loved him since 2004. I will protect him against adaptations who think he has to be an arrogant jerkass or a funny little penis man to give him "depth" and "appeal".

Keep seeing people dismiss criticism about the Sonic movies for their lack of faithfulness to the characters and world, saying "They're their own thing" and "They're trying to do something different", and it's annoying me.

And don't get me wrong, I love these movies. They're my favorite movies of all time just for how much they get RIGHT about Sonic and the respect they DO have for the source material, I'm super psyched to see movie 3 when it comes out, but COME ON. "They're trying to be something different/their own thing", then why make them Sonic? If they're trying to be something different, let them ACTUALLY BE something DIFFERENT. Make another thing, and then also make a fully faithful Sonic movie set in Sonic's world with his core, impatient thrill seeking delinquent with a heart of gold personality INTACT.

Like, it's not a good reason or excuse. I have the context, I UNDERSTAND why Sonic is an excitable kid living with his anthro siblings in an American suburb in these movies, this started its life as Alvin and the Chipmunks road trip movie with superpowers because of corporate influence, and that had ramifications for things going forward, they now had this setup and these characters they had to contend with going forward. But that doesn't invalidate the criticism or frustration. Like I said, I LOVE these movies, the people making them clearly care a lot about Sonic, and compromised as little as they could, to the point they've got one of the best versions of Knuckles as a character in the series, but if I'm being intellectually honest, they compromise a lot on the series' appeal and identity, on a fundamental level.

Sonic as a character is NOT an excitable kid, he's a cocky, rude, impatient little PUNK. There's a lot of stuff about his nature as a static character I could get into, how it's not HIM that grows in good Sonic stories, it's the people around him he INSPIRES to grow, but even forgoing that and giving him a character arc, he really shouldn't be such a sweetheart little kid. Giving him one liners and having him sass the villain is the tiniest, most empty possible concession you can make towards faithfulness to this character.

Honestly, nothing plot aside, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little envious of Mario fans for the Mario movie. Shit, I'd TAKE a Chris Pratt Sonic if it meant that level of faithful attention to detail for Sonic's world, character, and general stylistic appeal, not that I want any level of compromise to begin with. I think if we started getting good, faithful animated Sonic movies, I'd probably start viewing the live action ones less favorably. They're what Sonic needs, and needed at the time, but in better circumstances for the series, I think they'd age relatively poorly. Still good movies, but we don't have many good points of comparison in the modern day. There's the OVA, but that was never a blockbuster, major studio thing, not something with much reach.

900th Adventure notes (not much about Ian and Evan!)

-Nigel Kitching, from Sonic the Comic, interestingly returns. His writing is more dramatic at first, but it was all a ploy to distract Metal and ease off the effects of the Topaz

His mannerisms are a little snappier, which given StC makes sense, same for brief descriptions cuz he British. Sadly Knuckles didn't do anything, but I like Sonic's characterization. He's cheeky, but not obnoxiously dissing like Flynn's, and his ploy exposes a good context intelligence unlike most of IDW

The art's weird. Apparently both Fonseca and Rik Mack worked on it, and while I see Fonseca's influence, it deviates from his still at bits. Not bad, though Knux's anger seemsmore exaggerated than what the writer intended

-Daniel Barnes has Sonic a bit more mouthy to Eggman/bots specifically. I like the idea that Eggman's testing out mechas in remote locations. If they fail, he won't be penalized. His mecha also is actually new, about time! Oddly, the city seems to be based on OVA...

Sonic noticeably isn't too bothered by the bots, and his priority of the Topaz over Eggman is seen. Only fault I can think of is fans misreading this as him not taking Eggman seriously out of context (note this further shows that Sonic can deal with Eggman not existing unlike Boom)

Art by Min Ho Kim (Dee Gee Min) once again is very detailed both drawing and rendering. .

-Aaron Hammerstrom. So the first thing I noticed, Cream!

She's been weirdly absent before this for Blaze use, you know, Blaze's first friend. That said, don't like the >told me I shouldn't help cuz dangerous. Feels counter to both games and that Annual, but this is IDW so bleh

Despite Rush refs, noticed Zero Gravity here. Also the first Aaron draw Sonic from the front

Also not a fond of the "Blaze be solo" retread. Brief, but still bleh

Shame, I love Aaron's art, especially with Foundraine coloring. Sonic's characterization is also better than Ian's, so double shame Cream got the short end of things initially, and Blaze too

first, yikes. No offense to Abby Bulmer, but her art...isn't too good for chars and color. First I've seen their name though, for a 900th adventure issue special that's...odd. Wonder if this was done last minute...

That said, BG and perspectives are nice, and action/flow is good

As for writing, I like how Caleb references this even art BG wise (issue 15)

The scuffle with the Rogues is more comedic (also hey, Storm actually has a say here unlike Summer special), though I like this note

Of Rouge actually wanting to save the world, with treasure being secondary. Too often fans and Ian flanderize the treasure love

Shadow also is mostly decent, though I hated this. This is obnoxiously egotistic

In tune with Rivals though otherwise; He doesn't hate Sonic, but will not be afraid to beat him for the greater good

He also accepts Sonic making an option 3 (very much Sonic to say fuck da limits), and beats the Rogues from attempting to chase after they insult him. A little juvenile at bits, but "muh mandates" are further proven to be horseshit

So the end is Ian, and I won't talk much cuz it's basically Sonic putting the Topaz in its original spot, but this

Kinda cute in a "muh senpai" kind of way. Now if only I can forget how much Starline quickly soured

Another Sonic twitter thread thing I saw but it's random questions this time

There's nothing I love more than talking about Sonic the Hedgehog after all.

I got into Sonic because when I was too young to even remember anything in any detail my family had a Mega Drive with Sonic 1-3, and I mean I played them a lot. I don't think I could tell you my thoughts on it then though because I was like pre-toddler age lol. Probably thought it was the coolest shit ever. As opposed to today where I still think that but like I'm way more autistic about it.

Quotes and themes are different things and I also don't know if by theme they mean music or like thematic shit so uhhh. Uncertainty of intention means I'll relegate myself to just quote, which is hard - in a series with so many iconic lines how do you pick just one? But I do think "what you see is what you get - just a guy that loves adventure!" as well as "do I need a reason to want to help out a friend?" are both very good lines that portray Sonic himself very very nicely. I'll go with those. Not strictly a final answer and I could probably make a whole post on just this question, but we'll leave it on the two mentioned.

Out-of-game I think Yuji Uekawa's adventure era artwork is my favourite, I think for in-game art styles I'm between Unleashed, Colours, and Mania.

I'll keep it simple just make him and Mario have a fucking platformer crossover or even like an RPG or something, anything that's not the Olympics.

You know my answer was very easily Live and Learn until Sonic Frontiers came out lol. Now it's Find Your Flame quite handily. Shit fucks harder than god.

A couple different pieces of Sonic media have entertained the idea of Silver attaining some sort of like heightened state of power, like ESP Silver from Runners and I think he's in Speed Simulator too - I'm curious about how far along he goes with that. A much younger Josh who cared marginally more about power scaling was interested in the idea of Silver becoming the strongest character in the series even. I think there was an animation in the Lythero Silver Campaign video (I've been meaning to watch this but that's neither here nor there) showing base Silver fighting Super Sonic. I'm kind of interested in that. How far does base Silver go if he's that aforementioned ESP Silver or whatever. Can he thoroughly whoop the likes of Knuckles or Blaze eventually? Perhaps even Shadow or Sonic? We're going with roughly that.

Of the 4 listed here I'd certainly say the OVA, it's just by far my favourite. SatAM has some props for its fandom significance but I find it boring, X has some props for being the most game-faithful but it's kind of crap, OVA is just dope. Even extending it to what's come out since I'd still stick with the OVA.

I used to be able to reliably name a decent amount of Sonic fanartists but unfortunately my mind has consistently blanked on that front recently. Official as a qualification lets me get away with saying Yuji Uekawa though so we'll stick to that. Jack Lawrence's IDW art is also really nice, particularly in Scrapnik Island.

I don't like blue shoes Tails at all lol. Like I think the argument amongst people that do like it is it makes him and Sonic compliment each other better but Sonic lacks orange on his colour palette so I just don't agree at all. Giving them the shared red is a lot more effective.

For least favourite I could point to various points in Archie's history as well as Prime pretty confidently, and stretching it the likes of Chronicles and Underground and stuff but I'd need to play more of them. Favourite I've got the very simple storybook games and Unleashed answer, we've seen it all before, although Frontiers has a pretty great Sonic too.

I don't want to skip any out of principal but also just so particularly don't care for Sonic ships that I've kinda got nothing here. I guess gun to my head I like Sonic and Knuckles' dynamic a lot but I don't need that to go romantic or anything so like, you know?

I just want multiple playable characters from the get-go and all of them to be as fleshed out as Sonic is, really.

There's definitely a lot of little things I can say but definitely the main one for me is less busywork tasks around the island. Pressing switches or parrying items or running in a hamster wheel, a lot of that stuff doesn't really play to the strengths of the gameplay, and I'd like them to work to correct and improve upon that I suppose.

Like the entire Mania and SA2 and 06 and Unleashed soundtracks. We'll go Crisis City specifically.

I have a lot of opinions on the Sonic series and its representation in Smash and that could also be a post of its own honestly, but just taking the question by itself I want Eggman a ton.

"Limited to teams" is such a leading-question type approach to this, L. Anyway yeah no variety is good. I understand the desire to stick to the teams we know, and certainly I think it's important to get those core things down before making a game where Sonic, Charmy and Omega are a team - but yk the cast is so expansive that letting them bounce off of the more unique faces is fun.

They cooked.

"Mainline" is quite the distinction here - I'd love to see more spinoffs handed to other studios even just to have spinoffs coming out, but I think for mainline I like seeing how Sonic Team evolves and where they're taking the series. I can imagine other studios making good Sonic games certainly, but that mainline clarification leaves me wanting to say nah honestly.

I have a somewhat decent amount but I mean that doesn't lend itself well to this type of post. I still like my Sonic has some old shack on Christmas Island where he keeps random sentimental junk from his adventures though.

Unleashed so easily it's not even funny.

Comics and just external media in general being included actually widens the net a lot because Archie and IDW both have a ton of good stories (haven't sonic the comic'd yet sorry lol) and I adore the OVA too but once again I'd point to your storybook games, Unleashed in particular, as well as Adventure 2. The Sonic 2 into 3&K overarching narrative is also very effective despite how simple it is.

Not an artist rip. Idk though the muzzle or something feels good to draw and harder to fuck up than the quills or something.

Honestly I could think about this one for a while too, but I think the one that always comes to mind - and this isn't even so much a cherished memory as just a sort of unforgettable one that I always go back to and think is kind of cool - one day when I was a kid, my brother and I walked to our school that was less than 2 minutes away, at the door were told the school was closed that day because a thunderstorm the previous night had done some fuckery or whatever, and then we went home and had the day off. And the particular thing we did is play Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity for most of the day. We'd owned it for a while at that point but the Riders games are pretty complicated for children even when they're as streamlined as ZG was, so we never really knew how to play it and frequently came dead last against the CPUs. It was this day off school where we really grinded the fuck out of it and just, got good at the game. Won a ton of rings and bought new extreme gear with them and shit, it was just a really memorable day for whatever reason. It's maybe not the most special, but it's what comes to mind when I think of cool Sonic memories I have.

Your favorite iteration of sonic? (Via show/comic/games etc)

That's a tough one. There's so many that I like-!

Prime Sonic and Wachowski are so expressive and sweet hyperactive children who are gradually learning things and they are both absolutely endearing to watch. I just wanna grapb these babies and hug them half the time.

Then there's X!Sonic (Japanese version). He feels like the one Sonic who has all aspects of Sonic's personality. He gets cocky, heroic, optimistic, sassy but also gets serious, angry, thoughtful and determined. The one gripe I have with him is how he doesn't seem to be as attached to Tails as the other versions. So not No#1 fav but still a fav, I like his characterization quite a lot. He has this aura about him that tells that he is self sufficient and experienced and has seen so much but is also a child and gets childish and excitable enough to act his age.

IDW Sonic is interesting. He tries to have the most positive and forgiving moral compass but the IDW writers are pushing his emotional and moral limits with every other arc. He's being put through test after test when it comes to patience and his morals. He is being taught that sometimes, you don't have a choice but to do what you don't wish to do. Sometimes, you have to let go of the goody morals of sparing every villain in sight to do the right thing. I have a hunch that the writers are treating Sonic as if he's Sega's restrictions on keeping the boy happy smiley hero 24/7. They're pushing him to his limits to the point that he learns to actually express other emotions, to actually stop an antagonist for once because you can't save everyone. You can't keep giving somebody a chance who has a choice but doesn't want to change. The writers are going, "Oh you wish to have Sonic as the King Positivity who never harms a living being and remains smiling no matter what? We'll give you a Sonic that's this way. And then put him through the horrors till he breaks. "

And Boom Sonic! He's an absolute mood! I love all of Roger's line deliveries in Boom, they were done so well. He's super fun to watch too.

Classic Sonic is a kid who is heroic and egoistic and is learning to enjoy life and have friends and be happy. Ova Sonic, Mania Sonic and AoSTH Sonic are my favorites when it comes to Classic.

And from the Games, well, SA2, Unleashed, SatBK, Secret Rings and Frontiers have some of my favorite characterizations.
