Aita for not making any of my characters, that I have to crank out daily, pansexual/polysexual/omnisexual specifically and only making them bi?

🏳️‍🌈👶🏼 so i can recognize this later lmao also I'm not panphobic or anything, this isn't about the validity of the label, pan is fine.

So i (20snb bi) have a project I'm working on where I take all the characters from a specifc media I'm into and pair them up with each other to make every possible ship kid from every possible ship(excluding characters who are kids themselves or are related or something, that shit is gross). Basically taking every character and pairing them up with another and creating a kid I think they'd have. Its a big project with lots of characters and I'm easily over 400 at this point. I really enjoy this, even if I'm not even 25% complete.

However I set a schedule for myself that at least one ship kid needs to come out each day which, considering I draw them, color them and give them some development and some even have siblings, (The refs themselves easily take me an hour to an hour and a half) I have to make lots of them quickly to keep up with my daily grind. I've been doing this project for over a year and although it's stressful, I can get them out quickly with breaks for myself.

Their character sheets all have some pretty basic info like their name, gender, pronouns, personality and more but it also includes their sexuality/orientation. I have a pretty basic list of options for what their sexuality will be: straight, lesbian, gay, Enbian, bi, Aro, ace and aroace with a few random things like polyam, WLW and a good amount of the something-loving-something/juvelic terms. I did this because, well, there's not many entirely unique orientations outside of them and although I love mogai/xenogenders and complex identities, I dont want to potentially drag up discourse or bring problems to my budding art blog over it. Its just not worth it to me to turn something I really care about on its head, even if I like microlabels.

In this case, I'm using bi as an umbrella term as most of the other terms share the same definition with slight variations in wording or action but not much difference in practice. We all like everyone, it's basic stuff. However, apparently this is a problem.

I've gotten one or two anons asking me questions about my guides asking some kind stuff like is this lesbian ship kid a butch or femme or Is this picture of them now or just at the age you put on the ref and other harmless stuff. Then things got rude with some Nbphobia but thrice now I've gotten asks:

1. Asking snarkily if im a panphobe

2. insulting me for not specifically writing pan or Omni and just writing bi.

3. Saying that I "clearly dont care about pansexual representation." Then brought up how my primary oc is native american so i clearly care about representation but that oc used to be a sona and I'm native?? Its confusing. (And Lowkey racist shit to just assume any native character is a "diversity quota" character instead of just a person existing but I digress-)

Im not pan, im bi so ig these people assume I'm not cool with pan people which isnt true? I have nothing aginest them, they are just pretty similar and I dont feel like it matters if they are specfically bi or pan or poly or any other label. I don't go into details like that for any other sub-group, not even pronouns and I included combinations and some common Neopronouns. I understand the importance of representation but my project has less than 50 people looking at it every day, Im not netflix or something. I'm one guy on the most LGBT blogging site with a big project and very little audience, I'm not showing people who wouldn't already know what pan is that pansexuality exists.

This project isn't that deep considering the characters in question aren't human/dont have human characteristics.(no it's not hazbin/helluva) Also ive never spoken about lgbt discourse or stated anything remotely close to it beyond the guides just passively having characters who are an LGBT identity. I've not even mentioned all the potentional orientations they could have so I'm not sure where/why this came up in the first place. The most politcial things ive said are calling out a creator in my fandom who outed themselves as a transphobe and mentioning im pro-palestine. That's it.

I mean this is pretty low stakes, I can just block these people and be done with it and this some seriously online shit but I just wanna check.

Am I being an asshole for just writing bi instead of specifying their mspec label because I have to produce characters quickly and I don't see enough of a difference to warrant a change/specification that would ultimately slow and clog an already stressful and complex project?

Murderbot Holding Hands

(Minor spoilers alert for Artificial Condition, Rogue Protocol, Exit Strategy pls check the tags)

First real post because I’m shy. Don’t know why it’s going to be a hyper-specific murderbot meta but here we go:

I’ve been rereading all the books after finishing System Collapse <3 and I want to talk about a small moment in Artificial Condition that I’d never noticed before. It’s near the end of the book when Tapan is in ART’s medsystem after nearly dying, and SecUnit says that when Tapan wakes up it’s holding her hand.

When Tapan woke, I was sitting on the MedSystem’s platform holding her hand. (Artificial Condition, p. 155 in my ebook)

I thought it was a really sweet moment, but it also kind of puzzled me because of SecUnit’s aversion to touch. Later when I was reading Exit Strategy, I noticed a similar moment when SecUnit holds hands with Mensah to help disguise them as they’re trying to escape TranRollinHyfa.

[Mensah] took a deep breath and looked up at me. “We can look calm. We’re good at that.” Yeah, we were. I did a quick review to make sure I was running all my not-a-SecUnit code, then I thought of one more thing I could do. As we stepped out of the pod, I took Mensah’s hand. (Exit Strategy, p. 87)

Reading these scenes felt different in a couple ways. In my opinion, SecUnit taking Mensah’s hand in Exit Strategy seemed like more of a big deal because it was a part of SecUnit’s reunion with Mensah, and we see its thoughts and emotions leading up to it. And it tracks that SecUnit might feel ok holding Mensah’s hand in that situation because of their close friendship. But the moment in Artificial Condition is more mysterious. We don’t get any of SecUnit’s internal monologue at the beginning because the scene opens when Tapan wakes up. And even though it’s clear in the book that SecUnit likes Tapan along with Rami and Maro, I wouldn’t say their relationship is anywhere near as close as its bond with Mensah. So why did it hold her hand?

I think it’s a neat moment that’s fun to ponder! And I have some vague ideas I’d like to share about it. (Some of this is based on the books and some is my speculation as an ace/aspec person dealing with touch aversion.) (Also none of these thoughts are mutually exclusive!)

Maybe SecUnit saw holding Tapan’s hand as a form of first aid after her traumatic experience and didn’t want her to panic waking up in a strange ship’s medsystem. This fits with SecUnit bracing itself to hug Mensah in Exit Strategy. (The memes of this moment are perfect lol)

But I was the only one here, so I braced myself and made the ultimate sacrifice. “Uh, you can hug me if you need to.” She started to laugh, then her face did something complicated and she hugged me. I upped the temperature in my chest and told myself it was like first aid. (Exit Strategy, pp. 82-3)

But I feel like SecUnit might not care as much about comforting Tapan in a similar way if it hadn’t already built up some kind of trust with her? Which brings me to Thought 2:

I think SecUnit might have felt safe holding Tapan’s hand because of the moment in Artificial Condition in the second transient hostel when Tapan laid down next to it. (Ofc I think rescuing Tapan from Tlacey’s ship was also a factor, trauma-bonding and all. But to me this moment in the hostel is more important.)

Thirty-two minutes later, I heard movement. I thought Tapan was getting up to go to the restroom facility, but then she settled on the pad behind me, not quite touching my back… I had never had a human touch me, or almost touch me, like this before and it was deeply, deeply weird. (Artificial Condition, pp. 136-7)

This is one of my favorite sequences in Artificial Condition (which is also my favorite book in the series because of ART! And because I find it quiet, reflective, and weirdly cozy even though objectively few cozy things happen now that I think about it). The scene is pretty mundane with a lot of fun bits like SecUnit pretending to need to use the restroom, be on a diet, etc. And we usually don’t get to see SecUnit hanging out with only one person. So it gives room for some small, but important feelings that I don’t think SecUnit has time to explore when it’s busy saving the day. Like how it feels about physical contact with humans.

(idk it reminds me of how like in ghibli films there’s usually at least one scene with the characters eating a meal or something because it sort of grounds everything else. I just like it!)

Tapan being close to SecUnit seems to throw if off-guard, but the context of the scene feels non-threatening and pretty mellow. So I think this gives SecUnit the opportunity to check-in with itself about this new experience. It still feels weird about it, but not in a scary or upsetting way. I think it’s almost this mutual vulnerability (Tapan feeling vulnerable and seeking comfort and SecUnit feeling vulnerable about her closeness and its own boundaries) that creates a bond between them, and that’s why SecUnit reaches out to Tapan to comfort her when she wakes up onboard ART.

That scene has become really special to me. And I would argue that it’s an important moment to SecUnit too because it brings it up again in Exit Strategy, along with a later moment in Rogue Protocol, thinking about times when it’s experienced physical contact with humans in a non-traumatizing way.

Except it wasn’t entirely awful. It was like when Tapan had slept next to me at the hostel, or when Abene had leaned on me after I saved her; strange, but not as horrific as I would have thought. (Exit Strategy, p. 83)

These moments seem to lead up to SecUnit offering to comfort Mensah later on because it’s reached a point where it feels willing to do so for her sake, even if it doesn’t want to seek out that kind of comfort for itself. And it’s really cool to see SecUnit navigate this throughout the books.

SecUnit starts the series with a strong innate sense that it doesn’t want to be touched by humans, but it’s allowed to refine those feelings in light of its new experiences. It’s boundaries are situational and personal, and even well-meaning humans sometimes struggle to understand them at first. Other times, SecUnit finds it difficult to understand it’s own feelings regarding touch and even changes its mind. But, importantly, the narrative always presents this as valid and worthy of respect.

This is a much more nuanced and realistic portrayal of defining boundaries than I’ve seen in a lot of media- one where it’s a constant and sometimes confusing process of self-discovery.

And these might seem like obvious concepts to some people, but they weren’t for me growing up. I really wish I’d read these books when I was younger, and maybe I would’ve given myself more grace to define my comfort level, grow, and change. But I’m glad that I’m in a place now where I can see and appreciate these things in what’s become one of my favorite series.

Anyway, I don’t want to say "thanks for coming to my TedTalk” lol. But very grateful to anyone who reads this and hope it was thought-provoking. Would be interested to hear other people’s thoughts on these scenes!

Since I have only recently started to become familiar with AC (I don't know every single thing about it yet), may I ask what your thoughts are on any historical accuracies/inaccuracies within the AC series? (As someone who is interested in discussing this sort of thing with fictional historical media - I do apologise if this question is too broad since, again, I'm new to the AC series.)

Hi ! Sorry for the late reply, I’ll try my best to answer <:)

I think with assassins creed’s relationship to history, it is a bit broad of a question, but it’s interesting to talk and think about!

I feel everyone knows this series is basically all fiction, and you probably shouldn’t use it as a history textbook in general. But I do really appreciate when they care to talk about history, and show specific places and events, not just people.

Each game handles their history differently (from what I’ve heard, valhalla handled Viking history quite poorly and largely fed into media stereotypes within their advertisements while ac Mirage I’ve heard really took great care and effort into representing the cultures present and cultural details, even including calls to prayer within the gameplay). But they use their own fiction to fill in the blanks, and earlier games play more into the ‘conspiracy theory’ side of things (which I’m personally not a fan of but hey that’s basically what all the isu stuff is).

The recreations of the places are quite remarkable though still!! They pick and choose details to have in their game to make it feel more historically grounded, like irl Duomo not being fully finished in Ezio’s time in ac2, but they still need to fabricate stuff here or there for fun. When they get really detailed I like that more, such I feel like some later games kinda underwhelm me with historical figures though, where it becomes too,, cameo-ish? Instead of having them be characters in their own right , it just feels a bit gimmicky (more than usual bc that is their gimmick). For me, some of my main criticisms come down to ac3 mostly, which I feel lacked more underrated historical figures of that time (especially those who were of color or were women— it baffles me bc it would have fit perfectly with the story they aim for but they didn’t? )

Playing with history is always tricky territory but when AC actually cares, it shows and you can get enjoyment out of that fr, and even spark an interest in areas of history you haven’t considered before ! (Me with Leonardo da Vinci and Renaissance art history tbh). But again it’s,, mostly fiction and tying history back to their fictional world and lore, so take everything with a grain of salt, research for yourself, etc etc.

As for favorite sea creatures, hello fellow cephalopod enjoyer !! Cephalopods as a whole are one of favorites, but I love nudibranchs too— orcas, leopard seals, frilled shark and the barrel eye fish are also some of my favorites :))

OKAY!!! SO!!! All the members on the Qsmp go to Quesadilla University who’s mascot is a silly yellow duck and a white bear affectionately (?) named Cucurucho

The Brazilian members are international students who come one semester to study there!! (Bagi comes a few semesters after the og five do because Forever and Cellbit kept talking to her about the school. Maybe her application was delayed to join) They all stay in the same dorm together because if they weren’t allowed too I think they’d set the University on fire (all six still have very…questionable pasts but they don’t talk about it lol)

Quackity introduced all the Brazilians to the English + Spanish players because they’re all in a program to help the new international students get use to being at the university/help them in any way they need.

Cellbit is a law student with a concentration in criminal law I think!! Same with Bagi I think she would be a law student (if you have more creative ideas tho feel free to let me know)

Felps is an art student, I think he’d do a lot of sculpting and has carved a massive fucking slab of marble into a perfect square by hand (hes fucking insane <33)

Tazercraft are both Science/Stem majors I think? Pac might have a focus on like chemical science though and Mike is more engineering????

Forever is a carpentry major (BUILDER!!) and minoring in Business (STONKSCRAFT!!) he’s super popular on campus btw… it’s because he’s so pretty and friendly with people like… look at him… you can’t not love him…

Cellbit runs the TTRPG/DND club on campus (their club room is right next to the Pride Center. this was not a mistake they specifically asked for that room) and the vice president is Slimecicle!! It’s a super fun and welcoming place, both of them love to scare the shit out of the new players with the role playing horrors <33 During Pride Month, Cellbit is exclusively referred too as the “Gay Master” and wears a mlm cape with a lil ace flag in it too :DD

Anyways, I mentioned they all dorm together!! Basically it has like one communal space and three smaller rooms/bedrooms (2 beds in each, last room has one bed). The communal space has a couch which can be turned into a bed and they all like to watch movies there together and destress :DD

One of the bedrooms was turned into a study room basically and Cellbit pretty much lives in there MABDHJFBAKAK he’s always studying or doing something on his laptop and the others check up on him sometimes. There have been multiple occasions where Forever was studying in there at like…4 am and Cellbit just walks in, climbs into Forever’s lap and just passes out. He’s like a cat he sleeps wherever he wants and we can’t do anything about it ://

Also if no one asks where Felps is he will just pass out in his studio inhaling clay fumes or whatever project he’s working on. He will simply vanish off the face of the planet (this is why the Brazilians all have a “family” group chat, yes Bagi got added to it even before she came to Quesadilla University)

The look on your face is a dead giveaway, all wide-eyed and flushed, breath caught in your throat.

"W-What kind of pirate would be interested in such a thing?" you try to defend yourself.

"You tell me," Thatch grins, and then grabs you and hoists you over his shoulder, carrying you back to the others. "Look what I caught, you guys~"

"Thaaatch," you wiggle and whine, but it's so close to a whimper that they know they have you. "Not in front of the crew--"

He sets you down, and Marco pulls you close to him, whispering in your ear if this is something you'd be interested in exploring further in private. He already knows your answer before you even say it. All you have to do is look at him, and your dilated pupils tell him everything he needs to know.

My LGBT+ Headcanons

(Frank discussion about sex and sexuality ahead.)

I have once again neglected to actually think of art to do for pride month, but as a consolation, here's an update on my list of LGBT+ headcanons (except when they're OCs, in which case it's just canon).

Notes

*"Genderfucked" just means that their gender identity doesn't easily fit under a specific label, due to complications. It's usually due to the character being non-human and thus existing outside the gender binary by default. In other words, this label means they may not be literally queer depending on your definitions, but they otherwise represent or are informed by a queer identity or experience.

**Bisexuality is trans-inclusive. In the context of this list, I've chosen to use "bisexual" to indicate that the character has some preferences for gender expression, and I'm using "pansexual" to indicate that the character has little to no preference in gender expression. If it's important, then I'll specify what they're attracted to, but it usually isn't.

Examples:

A character that is attracted exclusively to cismen and transwomen would be listed as bisexual.

A character that has no preference for gender, but is exclusively attracted to feminine expressions would also be listed as "bisexual."

A transfemale character that is only attracted to cismen and transmen would be listed as "straight."

***Not all of the characters listed here are what I'd call "positive" representation. Most (I'd say) are, but a handful aren't. Just remember: Depiction is not necessarily endorsement.

Kahon (they/them): Genderfucked. As a sentient arcade machine, Kahon doesn't have an assigned gender. They express a feminine identity when acting through Kun3h0, but doesn't particularly identify with any gender. Only attracted to other arcade machines and the characters in them.

Coexistence!Kun3h0 (any pronouns): Genderfucked. In an AU where Kun3h0 is her own character, Kun3h0 is still genderfucked. She was built and designed as a female, but once they gained sentience he said, "fuck that" and went on to do his own thing.

GAB (she/they): Non-binary/Asexual. They're just a little guy.

Carol (he/him): Transman/Asexual. Was gay in life, but becoming a zombie has been a huge damper on his sex life.

The Prince Formerly Known as Frog (us/we): Cisman/Gay. Uses the royal "we" to refer to themselves, but otherwise uses he/him pronouns.

Floats (he/him): Cisman/Gay (closeted). I want to talk more about his relationship with sexuality since it's a core part of his character, but I think explaining it here would be a little too heavy for a list like this.

Spector (he/him and she/her): *Transwoman/Straight. *Identifies as a cismale and uses he/him pronouns at the beginning of the story, but transitions later. This isn't a character I've talked about too much or even really drawn, but she's Floats' business partner and is inspired by the hypermasculine characters you used to find in early FPS games like Doom and Duke Nukem.

Smash Bros/Retro Buddies

Mr. G&W (he/him): Genderfucked/Ace. He's a shape-shifter and normally lacks genitalia, but he was considered male when he was "born" and identifies as male in all forms. Normally, he doesn't go through the trouble of recreating sex organs when he transforms, since his transformations are usually just a means to an end. Consequently, his body doesn't normally produce those kinds of hormones, so his libido is very low. Sex for him is just a bonding activity that he doesn't particularly seek out.

ROB (any pronouns, but usually he/him): Genderfucked/Demisexual. Technically speaking, he was never assigned a gender at "birth." Due to the limited A.I. of the other ROBs making them only capable of addressing people in the first person and Master Hand never needing to address ROB in the third person, ROB effectively had no pronouns while living on the Island of the Ancients. He only answers to he/him pronouns out of convenience since people assumed his pronouns due to his masculine name, but he doesn't particularly identify with any gender. In the human!AU, he would have been born with a vagina, but is still indifferent to gender as a concept for the same reasons. Since he lived on an isolated island surrounded only by people he considered family, and the first new people he ever met tortured and enslaved said family, he grew a great distrust of other people and is only attracted to people with whom he's already bonded with.

Puck (Pac-Man) (he/him): Transman/Pansexual. He was already transitioning when he first met Pepper. Since they started as rivals, he didn't bother ever bringing it up. When they later fell in love, he still forgot to mention he was trans because he figured that he already said it at some point. They later had 2 kids and are happily married to this day.

Pepper (Ms. Pac-Man) (she/her): Transwoman/Bisexual. She met Puck pre-transition, when she still went by "Otto." She left Pac-Land briefly to work on her transition, and when she came back and met Puck again, she forgot to clarify that she and Otto were the same person because she thought he would just put 2 and 2 together. He didn't. They both didn't realize the other was trans until a conversation about having kids came up. They both laughed it off and are happily married to this day.

Blinky (he/him): Cisman/Gay. Has a love-hate thing for Puck and won't admit it, but wouldn't do anything to seriously sabotage Puck's marriage lest their rivalry become legitimately hostile. He acts tough, but he's a hopeless romantic.

Pinky (she/her): Transwoman/Pansexual. Joined the Ghost Gang as a man and transitioned over time. Unlike Blinky, she is an aspiring homewrecker, but the Pacs are too loyal to each other for anything to come of it.

Inky (he/they): Non-binary/Asexual. The inner mechanisms of his mind are an enigma.

Clyde (pronouns vary): Genderfluid/Bisexual. Not much to say about Clyde. He just does whatever is comfortable for her at the moment.

Tabuu (any pronouns): Genderfucked/Pansexual. Same situation as G&W. He's a little more sexually active, but only because he can use it to get what he wants.

Duck Hunt (Human AU only): Both are cismen (he/him) and gay, but not in a romantic relationship with each other.

NSR

DJSS (he/him): Non-binary/Ace. AFAB and rejects gender as a limiting concept that he has grown beyond. He's still a little self-conscious about his height though (HRT helped him get wide, but it didn't really help him get tall). Claims to be "sapiosexual" but is actually just uninterested in relationships under most circumstances and sets impossibly high standards just so he doesn't have to deal with it.

Neon J. (he/him): Transman/Gay. He doesn't actually remember that he's trans due to his memory getting corrupted over time. He assumes that he's a cisman and just lost his penis in the war. Is currently pursuing DJSS because he likes a challenge.

Tatiana (she/her): Ciswoman/Lesbian. Was very sexually active during the Goolings era and has only slowed down due to having a lot of other responsibilities now. Originally assumed she was bi and later figured out she was a lesbian. This isn't public knowledge about Tatiana since she's rather reserved about her personal life, but people who know Kul Fyra know. As an aside, she wouldn't date an employee because she's witnessed first hand that having a relationship with someone who is too involved in her business is a disaster waiting to happen.

Kliff (he/him): Cisman/Bisexual (closeted pre-revolution). Believes he's straight because he's only pursued Tatiana romantically, with the excuse that any encounters he had with men were out of desperation from her not reciprocating. He accepts his sexuality post-revolution after he lets go of his fixation on Tatiana. However, he seems to be attracted specifically to people that have similar traits to Tatiana (like big muscular arms and/or fiery personalities), so how "over it" he is about it is debatable.

Mayday (she/her): Ciswoman/Bisexual. She's inexperienced with any kind of romance and has only recently started exploring her attraction to women. Has yet to consider Zuke as a romantic partner, but it could happen.

Zuke (he/him): Cisman/Bisexual. Primarily straight, but could pursue a male love interest if they hit it off. Has considered the possibility of a romantic relationship with Mayday, but is putting it off until they've had more experience as a band (he doesn't want to repeat what happened between him and Eve).

Zam (he/him): Cisman/Gay. I don't have anything to say about it. I just think he's gay.

Yiruk (he/him): Non-binary/Bisexual. Also not much else to say.

Remi (he/him): Demiboy/Straight? He's put a lot of himself into Sayu and is using her as a way to experiment with his feminine side, but he doesn't really feel like a girl. He hasn't had any interest in a relationship yet, so his sexuality is ambiguous right now.

Dodo (he/they): Non-binary/Pansexual. Is very loose with his gender identity. He likes wearing feminine clothes and make-up, but doesn't identify as female. They just like what they like.

Tila (she/her): Demigirl/Bisexual. Is pretty sure she's a girl, but feels ambiguous about it. She has a crush on Remi and generally likes boys, but she thinks girls are really cute too.

Sofa (he/him): Cisman/Gay. Not much to talk about~ He doesn't currently have any crushes.

Sayu (she/her): N/A. "Officially" (as in officially in my headcanon) Sayu is a blank slate so fans can project anything onto her. The most common interpretation with fans is that she's a transgirl lesbian, but other interpretations go around too.

Eve (she/her): Transwoman/Demisexual. She's really attracted to anyone that she thinks could understand her, and is usually disappointed when they aren't. Post-revolution, she hasn't quite opened up to dating again, but at the very least she's healing.

1010 (he/him): Genderfucked/Pansexual. All 1010s are coded without any particular sexual preference, as to make them incapable of rejecting a fan's affection on the basis of sexuality. In this case of "genderfucked" I actually read them as cismen to go with the theme that they are a manufactured product that are not allowed to display any "unmarketable" traits. They'd partake in "rainbow capitalism" but not actually confirm that any of them could be attracted to men or have a non-male identity.

I know I killed DSYNC, but these are the exceptions in the DSYNC!AU:

Kerinting/DSYNC!Green (pronouns vary): Genderfluid. His personality core uses semi-random programming which has leaked into his gender settings, causing her to randomly change gender at random intervals. Sometimes she'll be one gender for a few weeks. Sometimes it only lasts a day. Either way, it throws his sense of self out of whack when her current identity doesn't match his presentation. Kerinting manages this a little better since she's allowed to alter her body more, while this is a major obstacle for Green.

DSYNC!Blue: Gay (closeted). Is in a similar situation to Green. Blue's personality core makes him hyper focus on singular targets. However, this inadvertently affected his sexuality settings, so he became exclusively homosexual. He tries to hide it as to not start controversy for the group (which is easy to do since his emotional expression is a lot more subtle than the others). White is the only one that knows and hasn't told the Captain at Blue's request.

DSYNC!White: Agender/Asexual. In this AU, he has a very negative reaction to being a sex symbol against his will. As a result, he's rejected his sense of sexuality and is sex/touch repulsed. He only keeps up appearances as it pertains to his job. If he had it his way, he would retire alone near the sea and fish for a living.

Moonside (My ACNH Island) (Sorry, these aren't as deep as others. The lore on Moonside isn't actually that strong, so I haven't given it much thought U_U)

Fuchsia (she/her and he/him): Ciswoman/Lesbian. Currently pursuing Syrup, but Syrup isn't ready to reciprocate yet.

Norma (she/her): Transwoman/Bisexual. In a relationship with Merengue.

Dotty (she/her): Transwoman/Lesbian. This is a carry-over from New Leaf. She doesn't have a partner on Moonside, but her original partner was Coco.

Roba (he/him): Transman/Asexual. I think that's just actually canon through subtext. That would unfortunately mean that his friends are kinda transphobic as they consistently misgender him, but I'd like to think they get better about it later.

I would have forgiven them for waking me at 4am with their duet if they'd be drinking something more or less interesting. But no: it was fucking Miller Lite, the kind that came in the bottle-shaped cans. I was disappointed in them. You're gonna get smashed on light beer and then wake me up with your singing at 4am? C'mon.

If I can find someone to harmonize with me, we could annoy everyone with "Hotel California" in polyphony. Actually, we could do a lot of bluegrass and mountain music with harmony like that (I have Thoughts for Mumford & Sons about their lack of harmony in some of their songs). The thing is, a lot of bluegrass and mountain music is better for groups of singers where everyone just kind of finds their note (my mom raised me on folk music of all kinds). At that point it's not karaoke though.

It's gotta be something not-quite-a-real-duet, though. Like, we gotta do something Simon and Garfunkle or Hall and Oats, where there's technically two people but it's not really a duet the way "I've Got You Babe" or "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" are.

On second thought, anyone wanna sing some Babymetal with me? That'd be fun.

23: A song that you think everybody should listen to This isn't a specific song so much as a concept: I think everyone should listen to a song from a genre they never thought they'd listen to.

Find a genre you don't know anything about, maybe even a genre you hate, and go read up on it a bit, find a list of the "top 10" or "most recommended" songs for that genre--Wikipedia will probably mention several bands in an article on the genre.

Then go listen to a song or two. You are under zero (0) obligation to like the song or the genre. But I think it's worthwhile to at least listen to a couple of songs from a genre outside your usuals. Even if you hate it, try to understand why fans might like it. Look at it from an "art" perspective: what's going on here? What is the musician thinking or communicating? See if you can break some stereotypes you have about the genre.

I've done this more than a few times, though I know I may be an outlier adn should not be counted because I like nosing around in music (despite all the names I mentioned here being really fuckin' basic). I had the best time working in the music department a B&N. Even if the guys in the department were kind of snobs about music, they did know about a lot of obscure groups and genres that I definitely did not yet know (they weren't interested in what I knew though, so fuck those guys; one is in prison right now, btw). So these guys were pretty pleased to show off what they knew about math rock and the Black Heart Procession and I got to get a sense of what these styles or groups were about. Some of it I hated but I don't think I ever would have heard of or about this stuff if someone hadn't played it for me. So hopefully this is the next best thing.

Go listen to some fuckin…idk, bossa nova or something. Go figure out why you've always said "I love all kinds of music--except rap and country." Go explore shoegaze or original grunge or beach music or read about how "Pet Sounds" is actually a really significant album.

So it's not one particular song I think everyone should listen to. I think everyone should listen to a song they might not have otherwise listened to.

Writing WIPs below cut! The writing below contains mature themes of sex, drugs, and violence. Specific content warnings are listed before each section in bold.

1- I've been rewriting some of Gale's backstory recently, adding details and making it a little more readable, lol. Here's the part where his father is described, which I'm a bit proud of. Content Warning: child abuse and child neglect

Gale didn’t remember much before the age of nine, other than how his father treated him. He had no siblings growing up, and--outside of birthday parties--he never saw his friends outside of school. This led to him entertaining himself, which usually meant exploring the fairly large house. There were some rooms he wasn’t allowed into, like his father’s, yet he grew a knack for sneaking around--perhaps due to Ace’s over disciplinary style of parenting. Like most children his age, Gale was hyperactive and prone to tantrums. Ace would respond with grounding Gale to his room and, occasionally, corporal punishment.  The Butler, on the other hand, was much more patient with Gale--calmly explaining why Gale couldn’t go into certain parts of the house and never raising his voice. Gale became much more attached to the dragonborn, sometimes interrupting the Butler’s duties. The Butler also encouraged Gale’s creative mind, giving him art supplies on his birthdays and always responded to the child’s drawings positively.  One day, Gale sat in his window sill with one of his notebooks in his lap, trying to keep his hand steady as he tried to draw some of the pigeons sitting on the power lines outside. His tail angrily thumped against the wall when the lines came out wobbly, and they looked nothing at all like his vision. He heard the click of his door knob turning, and he felt the need to hide what he was doing. In a blink, he flipped the notebook closed and his markers scattered across the floor. He felt his heart skip as he looked up to see Ace in the doorway. The man brought a dark shadow with him wherever he stepped. He was tall--like Gale would be one day--with sharp features and dark hair. Black horns formed a broken circle at his temples, and he almost exclusively wore suits--or, at least, Gale never saw him in anything less. The boy didn’t exactly reflect his father’s image. He was pale, with ginger hair and red freckles that dotted his face and body. From the middle of his forearms all the way down to his fingertips, his skin blackened to a dark gray--his feet mirrored this trait. He had a long, pointed tail and short nubs for horns that would grow with him. While Ace’s eyes were a demonic red, Gale’s were a deep violet. He seemed to know he was cute for how he always played innocent around the house keepers, and occasionally the Butler.  Ace was not angry, this time, and instead wore a stoic expression with the slightest hint of a smile at the corners of his mouth. Gale knew this look, it usually meant his father wanted something of him. He did well to listen. “I need you downstairs, Galethor,” His father said, his voice not revealing much of his intention.  “Okay,” Gale responded, small.  Ace’s eyes swept across the room and landed on the markers scattered across the floor, he shook his head and turned to leave. “Right now, please.”   “Yes, sir,” Gale let his notebook slide off his lap and onto the window sill, before jumping to his feet and scampering after his father. He wasn’t sure when he stopped calling Ace dad and started calling him sir. It made Ace feel respected, which in turn made him go a little easier on Gale from time to time.

Vic had the decency to at least be mediocre at sex, making it easier for Gale to simply go through the motions. Gale was face down, legs spread nearly as Vic pounded from behind. He gripped Gale’s hips with cold hands. Gale tried to find his own pleasure by touching himself, it was difficult to find a rhythm with Vic’s random pace. Gale was brought out of his dissociation when he felt something wet drip onto his back, and a stifled gasp from Vic. The tiefling opened his eyes to peak at the man above him. His cheeks were wet and his whole body trembled.  “Are you fucking crying?” Gale hissed.  This startled Vic into stopping completely. He rolled his shoulders back and looked up. “Sorry. The guilt got to me.”  Gale sat up, removing himself from Vic’s grip. The man was stunned as Gale leaned back against his velvet headboard, he grabbed for his lighter off his nightstand and a cigarette. “Couldn't even finish before you had this earth shattering realization that you're cheating?”  “It's not cheating if I still love her.”  Gale rolled his eyes, his face glowed against the lighter's flame for a moment. “Yeah, well. Keep telling yourself that, I'm sure she would feel really validated by that. Hells.”  Vic glared at Gale. “I don't have to take advice from a whore.”  “It's not advice, babe, just the truth,” Gale blew smoke as spoke. He glanced at his alarm clock, it had only been twenty minutes. He saw a flash of movement out of the corner of his eye, then he was on the floor. Slick blood dripped from his nose onto the carpet, and pain radiated across his entire face. In the dim light, he saw Vic pulling his pants on. Gale picked up the cigarette he dropped, and slumped back against his bed. Blood poured over his lips and into his mouth; he took a long drag.  Vic gathered the rest of his clothes and left wordlessly; Gale flinched when his front door slammed. Shouldn’t have fucking said anything, Gale thought.
