for a little bit of research !! if you're unsure, all you need to really gage is whether your use of the like button is something that is necessary in your tumblr experience, or whether you believe it's unnecessary and not essential to your tumblr experience.

ao3 skins faq
Just a few answers to questions I've seen in the notes on this poll
What is a site skin? A site skin is CSS code that changes the way AO3 looks. This could be anything from changing the page colour to the font to the way tags look to hiding parts of the site - and more.
Where do I find site skins? There are a few places. The easiest one is in the site footer (that red band at the bottom of the page). There are four skins linked there under the word Customize, and you can click on them to see what they do. Another place to find skins is https://archiveofourown.org/skins?skin_type=Site Those skins were created years ago and loaded into AO3 for easy applicaiton. Just hit the Use button and they'll be applied to your account. Lastly, you can find skins created by other AO3 users. Some people post their code on AO3 itself, some use github or other code repositories. A lot of folks share their skins here on tumblr with images and then a link to the code itself.
How do I save them to my account? If you're using the ones in the footer or the ones linked on the Public Skins page, you don't need to save them. Those are built into AO3. If you want to create your own (or use one created by another user), that's when you save them to your account. Tap on your name at the top of the Ao3 page. Then select Dashboard, then select Skins. Tap the button labelled Create Site Skin and give your skin a unique name. Write or paste the CSS code into the big box, then hit the Submit button to save it. If you want to use it right away, hit the Use button on the next page.
What's the difference between a Work Skin and a Site Skin? A work skin changes the appearance of an individual AO3 work, and it changes it for everyone who looks at that work. This lets you turn your fic into something that looks like an email or a text chain or a newspaper, etc etc without having to use images. Work skins can also be turned off by other users, so if they just want to read the plain text of your work they still can. A site skin changes how the entire site looks - but only for you.
How do you have 100+ site skins?? I start a lot of skins that I abandon partway through. I also create skins for certain specific purposes - for example, changing the look of all of the buttons on the site - and then I can just grab that chunk of code and add it to any "full" site skins I create for the purposes of sharing. I have a lot of experiments that fail, but I keep the code around because maybe I'll learn how to fix it someday.
Can I create my own site skin if I don't know how to code? You can! AO3 has a site skin Wizard that will help you change the colours, fonts, and font sizes on the site. Go to your Dashboard > Skins > Create Site Skin and then tap on Use Wizard. Give your skin a unique title. Click on the ? bubbles to get examples of how to enter information into each box. If there's anything you don't want to change, you can just leave that box empty. When you add in colours, they must be hex colour codes, and they must include the # at the start. Any font you add need to exist on your device (so it might work on your computer but not on your phone because your phone doesn't have that font installed). You can add parent skins to Wizard skins, too. See below!
I wish I could have [X functionality] in [Y aesthetic skin] You can! If you create one site skin in order to block certain works or tags, you can add that skin on top of an aesthetic skin. To do so, edit your aesthetic skin, scroll down and tap on the Advanced button (lower left of the CSS box), tap on Parent Skin, type in the name of your blocking skin and Add Parent Skin. Then save your aesthetic skin, and the two are combined! You can also do this with those skins that are native to AO3. So for example, you want a Reversi (dark mode) skin that Shortens Long Tags and also hides the "you have muted some users" banner. Create a site skin with the muted users code:
p.muted.notice { display: none; } And add Reversi and Shortening Long Tag Fields to it as parents. (you can also copy/paste all of the code into a single site skin, if you'd prefer)
For more FAQs, you can check out the Skins & Archive Interface section on AO3's FAQ page. Or you can drop questions in the notes, too.

Related to your last post: For me tumblr would work better as a community site if there was a function that would hide reblogs of the same posts. I get overwhelmed if I follow more than ten people in the same fandom because of the repeating posts. With work and everything else, I don't have the hours to find the original things people are saying. Reddit works better sometimes except the subreddits often have very surface level discussions with high amount of newcomers asking the same questions and the topics are quite limited. Maybe I should just try if there is life on Dreamwidth :P
This ask is a response to this post I made about feedback to fic and fandom community.
Anon, I agree 100% regarding the difficulties of tumblr for discussion that builds community. If you're following this discussion, than you may have already seen these follow-ups:
@eleadore added their thoughts about preserving reader spaces in a reblog here
@yiiiiiiiikes25 added thoughts similar to yours re tumblr's poor functionality as a community space here
@thehoneybeet added to the post that sparked my post here, about how to foster the kind of community we're all saying we want.
I'm linking these posts because I want to call attention to them; I think they're great. But I'm linking them in response to you specifically because yes there are multiple vectors to this problem--the web enshittification I described in my post, the splintering of fandom after the death of livejournal, and the difficulty of tumblr as a venue.
But it's that last, the difficulty of tumblr as a venue, that means that even like-minded people who want the community we're discussing can't really have it. Some went to, and are still on, dreamwidth. Frankly, I still find myself deeply irritated that fandom didn't move there, that it accepted AO3 and not DW. But I think a large factor in that particular exodus actually has to do with the fact that AO3 is closer to the direction the enshittified web went than DW ever could be. AO3 has a "like" button and is not built for deep, meaningful interaction. Again, this is because it was meant to be a limb of the fandom community, not replace community entirely. I'm not claiming that AO3 is enshittified but rather that it bears more similarity to current social media sites because it's only one part of a community that was at the time, thriving (yes, in spite of strikethrough and everything that was happening on LJ at the time).
In my opinion, tumblr straddles the divide between that old style of community website and the new one. Like livejournal and DW, you can view tumblr chronologically, without an algorithm feeding you content. You can remain anonymous, and everyone can see anything you post. But like other more modern social media sites, you can reblog and like, which you couldn't do on LJ and DW. The fact that tumblr is sort of both--and that it wasn't sold to the Russians and torn apart, like LJ--is why fandom fled here and why scattered pieces of it remain here, despite so many others moving on.
One thing I wanted to talk about in my original post, but couldn't find a place for, was how so much of the "community" aspects of fandom are now private. I think that's happened partly because tumblr isn't a great place to hold a conversation, so the conversation quickly gets moved elsewhere--but instead of somewhere where everyone is still welcome (ahem, like Dreamwidth), it gets moved to private spaces. Or the conversation never starts and exists only in the kinds of spaces meant for such things.
@thehoneybeet makes great points about this in the post I linked above. They mention "the invite-only server, the private ao3 challenge, groups and experiences that you need to be in-the-know about to even begin to participate in. that, essentially, require an invitation."
@eleadore mentions it at the beginning of their reblog (also linked above), saying, "i feel discussions of this nature have been severely crippled over the yrs, and people prefer to take to private group chats and such instead of engaging [...]" But they go on to mention "private discord book club servers."
To be clear, I'm 100% with @eleadore about the necessity for spaces for readers, and also 100% with them at the idea that there can be spaces authors don't have to touch. Writers don't "deserve" to hear every single thing anyone's ever said about their fic, positive or negative. Earlier this year I in fact made an impassioned post about the fact that I believe that bookmarks are for readers, not writers, and that making them a space purely for an author's comfort limits the functionality of bookmarks for readers, both in terms of finding fic but also in terms of finding friends.
So, yes, I agree that it's okay to have private discord book club servers. But the mention of discord did make me do a double-take, because in my opinion, discord is a huge part of what I perceive as the problem. You can't find a discord for your chosen fandom by searching discord. You have to have the link. Even if the discord isn't invite-only--which many of them are, you can usually only get the link by knowing someone.
There are all kinds of reasons for why discord is so private. Discords are run by mods, who feel responsible for what happens to people in spaces for which they are responsible. And mods who take a laissez-faire "everyone just do what they want" approach often have servers dominated by people who make the environment difficult, sometimes through racism, sometimes through bullying, sometimes by constantly bringing up traumatic or triggering content, sometimes just by making everything about them all the time. It's not like lj or even tumblr, where you can just unfollow. You're kind of stuck, unless you've got a mod who is policing vigorously, which is a huge job and impossible to do in ways that will make everyone happy. It's just easier if you don't have anyone and everyone wandering through.
I hate that. It makes me want to throw things. To me, fandom is about a space that's for anyone and everyone. You shouldn't have to know someone to get to have discussions about the thing you love. That's not why I'm here. In fact, in some ways I'm in fandom to get away from that kind of bullshit, so I don't have to construct some kind of social persona that is palatable enough to be accepted. I'm hear to talk about blorbos and read porn, maybe write a thing or two. A private discord book club made intentionally as a safe space for readers is a great use for discord. But discord as a place for fandom actually makes me feel a little ill.
I don't have a good suggestion of where fandom community should be built. To me, the best place is dreamwidth, and I think that after fifteen years, I really need to give up on the idea that enough people will move there (in this economy????) to really get the numbers you need to be able to find the people with whom you really click and connect. When tumblr tried to ban nudes, a lot of people talked up other possibilities--and some people went, to Mastadon, to pillowfort, even to twitter and IG. But those spaces all have their downsides, and none of them have the critical mass to be a real fandom home. As before, I have no conclusions about this. I just wanted to highlight some other aspects of this problem and describe some other food for thought.

welcome, twitter refugees!!
here's a quick and friendly tumblr how-to:
DOs & DON'Ts
DO reblog posts!! regardless of whether or not you add a comment, either in the post itself or in the tags, the OP will get notifications of everyone who likes the post via your reblog and who reblogs it from you! comment as much or as little as you like
DON'T repost things! fanart, fanfiction, etc. this is different from reblogging, a repost is when you copy/save the work to your computer and reupload it in a post of your own, rather than reblogging it
DO follow tags as well as other blogs!! really like one specific character from a tv show? a certain ship? search their name and follow the tag, and you'll see posts that mention or tag them even if you don't directly follow the person who made that post
DON'T rely too much on the search function, it's broken. if you want to search someone's blog for a tag, you're better off going to the URL: tumblr.com/[blogname]/tagged/[tag]
DO tag liberally! you can use the tags to add comments that you don't want to directly add to the post, to make it easier for people to search your blog, or to make it easier for yourself to find things later on
DON'T use tiktok censorship speak when tagging things!! it will make it actively more difficult for people seeking to avoid certain topics. instead of "tw: abu$e" just tag "abuse" and anyone who has blacklisted the tag "abuse" will not see your post.
similarly, DON'T tag things like "epilepsy" - instead, tag "flashing lights" so people can still use the epilepsy tag to discuss epilespy without risking seeing triggering flashing lights
DO use the follow and the block buttons liberally! this site has absolutely no algorithm, so it is entirely up to you to curate your space exactly how you want it!
DON'T send hate to people via the askbox on their blog, either anonymously or not. just block people who annoy you or post horrible things
DO participate in polls! tumblr only got them recently, less than a year ago, and people immediately went ham. vote on stupid things like which bug emoji is superior, which ship is the best, and how much vanilla extract should go in a cake! but remember that you cannot edit the original poll after you post it
DON'T use or endorse "AI" generators like chatgpt! don't reblog AI images and or AI endings to unfinished/abandoned fanfictions
DO cite your sources if you want to educate people on something in a post, we all love to learn, and informative posts on everything from current political events to which geodes could be made into useable dildos, but misinformation is prolific, so make sure anyone reading your information can refer to a real source!
jargon
notes - likes, reblogs (with or without comments or tags) and replies to a post are all agregated to give the number of notes, which is basically the number of times a post has been interacted with
OP - the Original Poster of a post, for example, me, aj-lenoire, with this post. i am op.
hellsite - tumblr itself. this website is insane and unprofitable and broken and we wouldn't have it any other way. hellsite can be either (affectionate) or (derogatory) and often both at once
blorbo - your favourite character, your rotten soldier, your sweet cheese, your good time boyy. post about them frequently and with weird, frenzied gusto
squick - something you personally don't like, such as a ship or a character or a trope, but is not actually bad or harmful - it's just not for you. it squicks you out.
blacklisting means you've blocked a specific tag rather than a blog/person. for example, if you don't want to see anything with spiders, blacklist the tag "spiders" so you don't see any! if someone you follow reblogs a post and tags it with "spiders", or the OP of the post tagged it with "spiders" then your dashboard will hide the post from you and tell you it was tagged with "spiders" and you can choose whether or not to view it
passing peer review means you added commentary to a post in the tags, and someone who reblogged that post from you saw your tags and thought they were funny, so decided to screenshot them and add them as a comment so everyone could see them. congratulations!!
breaking containment is when a post about a niche subject and/or from a blog with not many followers gets super popular because it's funny, and often OP despairs at how their notifications become unusable from the sheer number of notes from this one post
KUNGPOWPENIS - if someone posts something bigoted, tumblr will ban together to reblog, one letter at a time, k-u-n-g-p-o-w-p-e-n-i-s. only do this when the bigot is the OP, because only the original poster will get a flood of single-letter reblog notifications from every single branch of the reblog chain
tips & tricks
pornbots and bots in general are not uncommon here. whenever you get followed by someone, check to make sure they're not a bot by visiting their blog. if they only have a few reblogged posts on random topics, or no posts at all, and their profile picture is a beautiful woman, they're a bot, and you should flag and block them
old posts can and do get reblogged and liked all the time, there's no point at which it becomes cringe to interact with a post. we even have some from 10+ years ago that're considered 'tumblr heritage'
long posts will cross your dash from time to time, the most infamous being colour of the sky. you will see it and it will madden you with how far you have to scroll - inflict your followers with the same frustration by reblogging so they can see it too!! if you're on desktop, pressing j will skip to the next post.
read more allows you to shorten a post with a 'click to read more' link that takes the reader to the root post on your blog. this is especially handy if you're publishing fanfiction or a very long analysis of something.
toggling reblogs lets you choose whether a post is rebloggable or not, for example something personal you may want to delete later, turning off reblogs means there won't be any copies floating around after you delete the root post
follower count is not visible! the only way anyone will know how many followers you have is if you tell them. follow blogs based on whether you like what they post, not by whether they're super popular or not
memes are frequent and long-lasting. tumblr plays with jpegs like dolls and there are some memes that have been here for years. a current favourite is the destiel confession meme which has warped into a shorthand for breaking weird news
important dates
tumblr loves a goofy-ass-holiday!! here are some of the standouts:
ides of march - 15th march, celebrate julius caesar getting his shit rocked
pride month - june, tumblr is generally a very pro-queer space, so expect everything to be decked out in rainbows for the entirety of june and most of the rest of the year, too!!
halloween - the entire month of october and also a week in july, this site loves some spooky scary skeletons
destielputinelection - 5th november, reminisce about the absolute chaos that gripped the internet during the 2020 usa presidential election
blog recs for new users
to each their own, and a main draw of tumblr is that there's something for everyone, down to the very, very niche. so, search for stuff that interests you and follow those blogs! however, here are some blogs that are fun for everyone:
heritageposts - your one-stop blog for all the best, weirdest, oldest tumblr posts will all the drama, expect to see a lot of destiel
staffs-secret-blog - (not actually staff)
one-time-i-dreamt - full of weird and wonderful posts, made all the better by the fact that no one reads usernames here, so inevitably there is panicked confusion over what the fuck is going on
biggest-gaudiest-patronuses - one of tumblr's most ubiquitous shit-posters
aj-lenoire - that's me!
that's pretty much the basics, but most people here are really friendly, so if you're unsure, just ask someone! have fun!!

Launch Your Professional Website in Minutes: No Coding Required (Powered by Sitenear)
"I always thought building a website was something only tech geniuses could do. I was wrong. ” I dreamed of creating Zootopia World—a platform where wildlife enthusiasts could connect and explore the animal kingdom, but website development seemed daunting. Then I discovered SiteNear. In just 3 minutes, my impossible dream transformed into a professional reality. Without coding skills or expensive developers, I built a complete hub for sharing conservation news, educational resources, and wildlife encounters. The best part? I wasn't even looking for a website builder that day—I was organizing team tasks when SiteNear's promise of unlimited, free websites caught my eye. One skeptical click later, and Zootopia World was born.
Step 1: Click + button & create new site
It all began with one click. No endless forms, no confusing menus. Just a clean, simple interface that guided me effortlessly. “I couldn’t believe how intuitive it was!” BESIDES , SiteNear provides a simple interface with rich features to get you started.
SiteNear asked me to enter some basic information—like the name of my site and its purpose. I even had the option to add images, categories, or features, but nothing was mandatory. It was all about simplicity. There are so many option like personalize my site with my own branding, images, and contents.
After clicking the Submit button, my site was created immediately! I can improve my homepage any time by clicking Edit Content on the Site Menu.
Step 2 : Organize Services with Categories & Features
When I first envisioned Zootopia World, I wanted it to be more than just a website—I wanted it to feel like an adventure, a place where people could immerse themselves in the wonders of wildlife. But I quickly realized something: Just like in nature, where every ecosystem has its own role and rhythm, my website needed structure. Without clear categories, visitors might feel lost, like explorers without a map.
So, I organized everything into sections, each like a unique part of a thriving jungle. 🦁 Wildlife Expeditions – Explore thrilling adventures into the wild. 📚 Educational Content – Learn fascinating facts about animals and nature. 🤝 Community Engagement – Connect with like-minded wildlife enthusiasts.
And the best part? Setting up these categories was effortless. No coding, no complex tools—just a simple text description or a quick spreadsheet upload, and everything fell into place. Easily update and transform my website with just a few clicks on the Categories section! 🚀
I also added a few item in some categories and plan to keep updating them in the future.
-Enhance My Website with the "Features" Section on SiteNear
The "Features" section on SiteNear helps improve my website’s functionality and user experience. By adding specific features, I can provide visitors with highlights that align with my site’s purpose. For example,
this section allows me to:
📢 Share the Latest Contests – Keep my audience updated with exciting opportunities.
📰 Post News Updates – Provide fresh and relevant information in real-time.
💬 Offer Customer Support – Engage with visitors and answer their inquiries efficiently and much more.
By implementing these features, I can create a more engaging, dynamic, and user-friendly experience for my audience.
I can add new feature which including photo and other information
Step 3: Launch My Site
Before making my site live, I can review and edit it. Once launched, anyone on the internet can see it. After one click on the Launch button, my site is live immediately! On the success dialog, I can copy the site URL and download the QR code of the site! Now I can share it with everyone. You can also scan the QR code to visit my site.
I opened my Zootopia World website on another computer, and there it was—a sleek, professional-looking site ready for visitors. It felt like magic. Within hours, I was sharing my new website with my team. Still unsure how SiteNear can enhance your online presence? Visit my official website and see for yourself—it's built entirely without coding or programming skills. You won’t believe what’s possible! Here is the link to my website : Zootopia World

hi there! I'm relatively new(ish) to tumblr and was looking to make my own "bot" via a long queue, and was wondering if you could give me any tips? I'm not super familiar with the queue system, so any advice you can give me would be good! Thank you!
hello, anon!! welcome to tumblr!
(interloper)
it's an honor to be your tutorial npc :D i will do my best to walk you through the "bot"-making process/queue system!
first of all: this is how many posts are currently in this blog's queue.
[ID: Screenshot showing "Queue: 924". End ID.]
this is a kind of insane amount. i believe i started this bot with....700 posts in the queue? and then just kinda kept adding on more? a lot will depend on how often you want your bot to post. at the current number of posts in my queue and the current schedule of 4 posts a day, it could run for 231 more days without running out of quotes! if i bumped it down to twice a day, it could run for over a year!
what i'd probably recommend doing is adding posts in batches of, like, 20 at a time, and keeping the post amount low until you get up to a number where you feel okay just letting it run for a while without adding anything new. then just put new stuff in whenever you want!
but how do you do the "adding stuff in" part? great question! this is the part where we segway into the mechanics of the queue! this is also the part where i put a readmore because hoo BOY this got long. i am prone to overexplaining lmao
tl;dr: find the queue, make the posts, set times for posting and amount of posts per day, use mass tag editor to do tags, and shuffle queue!
the queue is one of tumblr's most special functions, imo. it will automatically put out a certain amount of posts every day between certain hours-- basically like scheduling tweets, except that the site schedules them for you! some people on tumblr actually queue basically every post they see rather than reblog it-- i call them "queuetuals" :P
Step 1: find the queue
so! first you go to your blog controls, where you can view posts and follower counts from, and then look down. under "drafts" is a section called "queue". hit that, it'll take you here.
[ID: The Tumblr "queue" page. Up at the top is a text box that reads "The queue lets you stagger posts over a period of hours or days. It's an easy way to keep your blog active and consistent. Automatically publish a queued post (dropbox with 4 selected) times a day between (dropbox with 12 am selected) and (dropbox with 12 am selected) Timezone: US/Eastern (change) Note: This timezone only affects the queue schedule, as well as timestamps on custom themes. The publish times on posts below are displayed in your local timezone." It then shows a Shuffle Queue button and the icon of this blog next to the icons and text for making text, photo, quote, link, chat audio, and video posts. End ID.]
FUN FACT: hitting the text (or whatever kind of post it is you want to make) button from here will automatically set the button that usually says "post now" to "add to queue" instead. i found this out like halfway into making all these posts and it was so helpful to not have to make the switch manually every time. i now pass this knowledge on to you, my protege. use it in good faith. okay where were we
Step 2: make the posts
right. okay . so you hit button you make post you hit other button (make sure it does say "add to queue") and it will automatically be put in your queue!
[ID: A drafted post from songder-bot reading "i'd like to take you through a wasteland i like to call my home!", with no tags and the post button set to "add to queue". End ID.]
now just do that like 100 more times and you're set :) (highly recommend, if you're going to be making a text bot like this, writing all the stuff you want to put in down in a text file so you can just copypaste over. i write new lyrics like the above in manually, but i was copypasting for my first couple big chunks)
you can also see up there the places to adjust when and how often your "bot" posts! i have it set to between 12 and 12 so it just posts day-round, but if you want to set it to only post while you're awake or only while you're asleep, that's cool (i did do that for a bit)
from this screen down you'll be able to see what's coming up next in the queue and at what times it'll post!
Step 3: tags and shuffling!
while i was insane enough to manually input over 700 posts in a few days, i was not insane enough to tag them all individually. for that, i used the Mass Post Editor!
found at the very bottom of the list that posts, followers, queue, etc. is on is a little item called Mass Post Editor. this is one of tumblr's other most helpful functions and i truly cannot recommend it enough.
so once i've gotten all the lyrics from a song that i want to get in there, i go in to MPE. up at the top it says "published, draft, queued". go to queued, i select all the quotes from the song i just put in:
[ID: A screenshot of the Mass Post Editor with several posts selected. End ID.]
i go up top, i select "add tags", and i add the tags i want for those posts! boom! mass tagging: SOLVED.
i will add here that the reason my tags are stuff like "lyric - green day" rather than just "green day" is because i don't want these posts to go directly into the main tag. especially if the bot posts often, it'd be pretty spammy and kind of annoying for people trying to look at posts about green day to have to keep seeing random green day lyrics instead. tag etiquette is important!
and the last tip i will give (i promise) is this: remember that screenshot from earlier and the shuffle queue button? whenever you add in new posts to your bot, especially if they're all from the same song or book or something, make sure to hit the shuffle queue! queueing something automatically puts it at the end of the queue, and shuffling ensures that your new posts are equally distributed and can come up whenever!
hope this was helpful!!! i love explaining stuff but also get very very wordy at times, so if you need a tl;dr version or further explanation of something let me know! oh-- and if you're gonna do quotes, lyrics, art, or anything at all, always credit the original creators!
#not bot#:D!!!#this was genuinely SO fun for me tysm#tumblr tutorial#< that is an example of *wanting* a post to go in main tags lmao#also yes i did add welcome to paradise just for this ask#and yes i chose that song specifically because i think of it whenever tumblr gets an influx of new people

I wish I could properly explain to people the difference between a centralized website and a site hosting service.
Because people seem to think that Tumblr (a centralized website) is a web hosting service; which no it's not, even though it lets you pay for your own domain this is just another way they monetized personalization.
^ It's kind of like this, on one hand you have a site hosting service; typically they let you host a free website up to a specific data cap. Then you could pay to have more on your site, but this is hardly necessary for a lot of reasons. All the Host really does is more or less provide you a domain with which you can have your own website.
Meanwhile a centralized website is going to have everything enclosed within it. You have no power over the whole of it because you merely have an account on it; you have a profile not a website.
The Centralized Web operates on account based systems; Centralized sites don't allow users to have any say in the way the website is ran. The people in control of the site as a whole are the overarching owners of the website itself.
A good hosting service will give you plenty of freedom in how you want to run your site. You're free to create a website for whatever you want, that functions however you want. More often than not these websites connect to one another via webrings; which are essentially dedicated pages on each site that have buttons or links to one another. Think of it similar to having mutuals, on my personal website I have a page dedicated to webrings I'm a part of; but some people simply are a part of a single webring and list out the other users of the webring on their site so you can access them that way.
This means there's users across different hosting services who are in the same webring. I am in a webring with someone from a hosting service, and another user who runs their own site off a raspberry pi. It doesn't matter because just like how I could link you a youtube video right now, I can link you any website from any hosting service and it doesn't matter that they're not a part of tumblr; likewise they could link right back to this post on their website; that would count as a sort of webring.
More often than not Webrings are for communities, but they can also be for smaller groups.
Much of the decentralized web is called the "Indie Web" but it's honestly no different from how much of the old web used to be. The idea of the indie web is insane to me because it never used to be classified as such. It was just THE web, now it's hard to find people who don't use something like Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Instragram; or some other centralized website rather than having their own homepage. I cannot tell you how freeing it was for me to make my own homepage, a place I felt like I could actually just have for myself and create as I wanted to. It's the first thing I see when I access the internet, and it has all the links I personally like to use rather than needing to have a bookmark bar or anything else. I often blog there, I have a few shrines where I talk about stuff I like; and I have a small but growing collection of my favorite 88x31s on there as well.
Being part of the indie web has taken me back to a time when people were allowed to be themselves without having to pay for it, where monetization wasn't everywhere. Why the hell do I have to pay for discord themes? Why should I have to pay for a website to be a slightly different color?
The web is yours. It's mine, it's ours. Don't let companies tell you otherwise.

Lots of polls say ChatGPT could affect the number of developer jobs out there, but I wouldn't worry too much about it. Change is always happening faster than you can adjust to it. To really understand ChatGPT, we need to dive in and try it out! Do you wish to gain further insight into the capabilities of the ChatWithGit ChatGPT plugin? In this article, we will demonstrate the capabilities of ChatWithGit's ChatGPT Plugin. Here we go! What Can I Do With ChatWithGit? ChatGit is an awesome plug-in specifically designed to enhance your coding workflow. With ChatGit, you’ll be able to search your code repositories with a simple query. It’s a time-saver app that grabs relevant chunks of code from the repository and matches your query within minutes. ChatGit’s biggest advantage is that it allows you to search for snippets of code with different keywords like repository name, language, and file path. With ChatWithGit, you can narrow down your search to find exactly what you're looking for. You don't have to waste time scrolling through a bunch of repository sites! Plus, you can not only find code snippets, but ChatWithGit will also give you the metadata for the content and file path field of your files. This makes it super easy to get exactly what you need without any hassle. It's like you have your own personal assistant who does all the work for you! Whether you're just starting out with code snippets or you're a seasoned programmer looking for inspiration, ChatGit is the right tool for you. ChatWithGit can take care of all your coding needs and make sure you always have access to the best and most helpful code snippets. It's definitely a must have plugin for anyone who wants to make their coding easier. It'll save you a ton of time and hassle by quickly finding all the code you need from GitHub. Plus, it's super easy to use and has a great search engine. It's a game-changer for developers of all levels, so don't miss out on this awesome tool! Install Plugin ChatWithGit can be installed from the Plugin Store. ChatGPT pro users can easily install ChatGit. To install ChatGit, go to ‘Plugins’ and select ChatGPT-4. Go to Plugins and select ‘ChatWithGit’. Click on ‘ChatGPT-4’ and you’ll see ChatGit. Prompt Example Here are some examples of prompts I used: 1“I need to get code snippets for [ ]in JavaScript. Can you supply any?” 2 “Can you help me find code samples for [ ]?” 3 “I need help with [ ] in PHP. Can you provide me with code examples?” ChatWithGit ChatGPT Plugin Not Working If you notice that ChatWithGit’s ChatGPT plugin doesn’t work correctly or you get errors instead of a real ChatGPT response, here are some ways to fix it. Keep in mind that ChatGPT’s plugin is a beta feature, and ChatGPT is an experimental feature. Bugs and other technical issues may occur frequently when you’re trying to get any of the ChatGPT plugin functions. Click on the ‘Regenerate Response’ button. In most cases, pressing the Regenerate Response button can help you fix many errors. If you’re not able to get the output you’re looking for from ChatGPT, the simplest way to go about it is to directly query ChatGPT using GPT- 4 model to get better answers from ChatGPT. Important Keep in mind that when using plugins, you’re still restricted to the 25 queries per 3 hours limit of ChatGPT- 4. Once you hit that limit, you’ll be dumped back to the ChatGPT version 3.5. So, before you dive in, make sure you have a clear understanding of what you’re trying to accomplish. At present, there is a restriction on the number of plugins that can be active simultaneously. It is possible to replace plugins, but only a maximum of three plugins can be active at any time. It is also important to note that plugins do not interoperate with each other yet. Conclusion This tool offers seamless coding experience, automation, integration with GitHub, and many other features.
Let go of complicated programming and unleash your creativity with this plugin that change the game. Ready to dive in and enhance your coding skills by using AI to increase productivity. Happy coding!

Eh, I don’t think it’ll be like that just because of how I had to set the Doctor Who Bananas Bubble one up. You have to select Public or Private. Private’s the ‘only invitees can see and interact i.e. you’re free to talk shit about people without having to make a private discord or whatever’ option, but Public is well, public.
I think it’ll probably function like…you ever made an account with a craft website and they give you tickboxes like are you into embroidery, cross-stitch, knitting, macrame, etc? So you still get the default emails but also now the other extra bits relevant to you? Like that. Regular dash follows plus tickboxes. Like an easy way to join Tumblr and be able to find the community for that thing you’re interested in. Scroll through this to see if you vibe, then here’s 35 people to follow ready to go.
It’s pretty difficult to find out who posts regularly about the stuff you’re into as a newbie. Many people give up or are pulled into douchey Big Name Fan orbits they otherwise wouldn’t have. This could allow for a significant smoothing of the process to find people you gel with faster. Depending on how you do it. Big tags are far too broad because thousands of people are using them any given second so ‘follow this tag’ for those is useless, and a person might not know the name of any more specific tumblr lingo for what they’re after (‘Thoschei’ anyone? You already had to be in it to know what that means). Communities are smaller so less overwhelming, and have descriptions as well as multiple tags that lead to them for searchers.
And if it’s built as a thing like when you write a post there’s a ‘also post to your x community’ button, it might mean some form of rescue for those people who struggle to keep engagement cus they vacillate between different fandoms so people unfollow them. Or just those with low follower counts full stop. Your blog may stay as it is, but now your posts can reach the people they’re supposed to at greater numbers via community strength, not just personal reach and influence. And you might find people want to follow you personally from there anyway. You’re absolutely getting interactions with new people, and nothing about how you or the dash or tagging works is changing, so this is just adding onto the experience you’re already having.
Honestly I’m all for trying anything that might help people new to the area/fandoms make friends, cus this site is literal dogwater for newbies who don’t already have someone on here.
Gotta be honest, on one hand I appreciate the thought that communities on Tumblr could help artists, writers and fans connect through shared interests. But I'm also worried it will create an insular structure where reaching more people will be near impossible.
Imo, one of the best experiences on Tumblr is seeing people you follow lose their shit over some random show you’ve never heard of and then checking out that show and discover “wow that’s pretty neat!”
I have the feeling this kind of experience will be likely lost if more people start isolating inside thematic communities.

ive seen many complaints about the way the new Tumblr mobile update has handled pictures. but i have only seen a couple people talking about how deeply inaccessible it is. and i want to go through it.
first I'll explain the changes for anyone who is new or who uses desktop because I'm fairly certain it's different there.
before when you were scrolling on your feed and you tapped on a picture to view it, if there was a margin around the picture it was black. if you double tapped the picture, it would zoom in. you could do this twice and the third time would return it to normal zoom. if you scrolled up or down, it would close the image and put you where you were on your feed before opening the image. if you scrolled to the sides, it would scroll through any other images that were on the same post.
now when you open the image, the margins are filled with a zoomed, cropped, and blurred section of the image. when you double tap, it likes and zooming is difficult. when you swipe up, it gives you a different post, generated by an algorithm to be similar. if you scroll to the side, it brings you to the posters blog. both of the swipe functions also do this when you are zoomed in as well.
i can only speak to my own accessability needs, but there are several and i know i can't be alone in any of them. for context the relevant things are that i have low vision which requires high contrast and photosensitive migraines which require low brightness. as you can imagine, this is a very specific balance of things that is easily made difficult.
firstly, the background of the image. i used to open the image specifically because of the background. increasing the contrast around the edge of the image and removing irrelevant details made it significantly easier to see. there were frequently posts that i straight up couldn't see properly until i opened them. with the new background feature, images that i have opened are impossible to see clearly. i can barely tell where the actual image is and where the background is. i functionally understand the aesthetic value of the change but there are regularly posts that i straight up can't see anymore because of this. there should be an option for high contrast backgrounds available so that people who need it can still have it.
next is the zoom. the double tap to zoom was one of my favorite features. because when something was small or hard to see it was easy to make it visible and i didn't have to change how i was holding my phone. now if i need to zoom, i have to shift and the pinch to zoom is very buggy. it is difficult to get the zoom where i need it on the image and it regularly causes glitches that alter the image. and i have to zoom out and back in to move when i am zoomed in to or else the new swipe features engage. this is hard on my eyes and hard on my hands that have fucked up joints because it requires a lot more small repetitive motions to do the same thing. this change seems to be mostly conformist to be more like other sites which is disappointing for the hellsite, bit it could easily be made at least accessable if there were an option to have the double tap zoom or even if the bugs on the pinch zoom were fixed.
lastly is the swipe feature. while this is mechanically and aesthetically obnoxious to me i will hold my focus on accessability. it interacts very poorly with the zoom feature, making it hard to navigate the image viewer when zooming is needed. from a dexterity standpoint, it also makes it more difficult to see what i want to see. if my hands a shaking i will sometimes open an image and get an entirely different one because of the algorithm swipe. I've had to scroll back up to three times to get what i actually clicked on because the swipe function is so sensitive and buggy. it is also more difficult to close the image. i often have to give it multiple attempts to close the image because when i swipe down, it doesn't go away and i can't get my back button to come up without it going to a new post. the bugs should be fixed and it needs some mechanical fixes, but this should also be made optional.
tldr for @staff: the new image viewer is deeply inaccessible for visually impaired people and people with dexterity issues and the bugginess makes it so much worse. all of the new features around the image viewer should be made optional for both accessability reasons and aesthetic reasons. i understand the attempt to streamline the site to look and feel more 'modern' but please don't forget that disabled people still want to use this site

PLURAL TOOLS!
I felt like this is important for every plural system out there. These are useful tools (which can be as well for fun)
Pluralkit on Discord: Pluralkit is a bot on discord that helps you make "multiple accounts" without having to sign in or out or switch accounts. With just typing a symbol in front or after a message the bot will indicate which account has to post the message. The absolute great thing about PluralKit is that you can connect your pluralkit-account to other websites and apps, which means you can use it on multiple places and multiple ways. link to website
Simply Plural: honesty, I don't know much about this one. But the app will help you keep track on switches! (Connectable to Pluralkit) link to app
Twinote: Twinote is an app that is basically exactly like twitter. EXCEPT the fact this is not online, it is fully intern. It was originally made to keep notes, but you can easily make multiple accounts and 'tweet' stuff. It's pretty practical for keeping notes or just if your gang is switching a lot and want to keep track on what happened during that time. you can even comment, favourite and retweet posts. link to app
Private Discord Server: A private discord swerver is a must for your system. You can make chats for specific usages. Personally I have a "chat" chat. a chat to keep a ranking (using pluralkit's message counts, so I can see who has been more active that day). Note channels, all my mindmates got a specific channel where we can put notes about or for them, things to keep in mind.
Plural discord servers: There are a lot of plural discord servers you could join, either for socialiation or for information about plurality. Just try to find that certain server that suits you and the gang.
Tumblr: Tumblr, well I assume you know tumblr since this post is on tumblr. But the option for making multiple blogs are a great purpose. Half of our gang has a tumblr page (and of course we have our grouppage).
spotify/youtube playlists: well, a good way to get to know each other is listening music together. Of course it can be you have different music tastes, so make a playlist on spotify or on youtube!
Daylio app: Daylio is a mood tracker, something that I have been using since 2015 (which is now 6 years ago), for a mood tracker you can make categories, one of my categories contains the names of each person. we just click on the person being in front or effective for the mood/activity we are currently doing. with the search button you can look for all 'mood's' made by a certain person. It's a good way to keep track on health and figure out what the role and function is about the system member for the system. link to app
I hope this was a good help!
Please feel free to comment/reblog/send-an-ask with other sites and apps useful for the plural community. (so it could expend this post)

Scarves & Coffee Survey Results
Thank you very much to everyone that filled out the survey from last month! I truly appreciate each and every one of you sharing your thoughts on the site.
I wanted to go over most of the responses (some were redundant/already discussed) and respond to those publicly so you all know what's going on and what the future has in store for S&C (and maybe even field some more insight). Responses are under the cut:
Are there any changes or updates you would like to see to current features on Scarves & Coffee?
Currently the "Categories" available seem really limited - while posting things I noticed there were no options for historical, alternate meeting, canon compliant, or other common tropes. Also, the way of selecting categories and characters using the ctrl key is a little clunky and unintuitive.
All of the current categories on the site were directly ported from the original site and haven't really been updated since 2011. If you have any categories you would like to see added, please send in an Ask or reply below. (Though the categories may be split into major categories and tags in the future.) But yes, the form requiring the ctrl key to select multiple categories/characters is super annoying, adding that to the list.
Yes! I would like to see all the fics posted by kudos or most read not only the first ten!
You can sort the entire library by kudos/most read using the Browse Library page. Just click what you want to sort by in the search menu and then press "Search." You don't have to have anything in the Search box to sort/filter entries. The Top Tens page is just a page that was on the original site that showcases the top ten in each category for fun.
Some sort of RSS feed so I can track new stuff posted to the site without having to check ever couple days. The site is currently low traffic so I stopped visiting regularly.
Noted. Email notifications should be coming back soon as well.
What features would you like to see added to Scarves & Coffee? (this can be anything! feel free to request as much as you want, from anything as small as font size buttons on entries to something as ambitious as an archive gallery or forum)
- a similar thing to the *private* bookmark option on ao3 - If it is not already there, a function to DM a writer instead of having to leave a review or manually searching them out on tumblr. - A part of the website specifically designated for anyone to post prompts instead of fics, which works in the same way with the categories etc. A bit like a crossover between a forum and a fic archive. Writers could just browse through lists of prompts and pick whatever tickles their fancy. - Again, if not already present, a dark mode for reading at night, because let's be real here.. Who ever put away a book just because it was bedtime, when they were enjoying themselves?
Private bookmarks have been added to the to-do list. You can DM any user on the site by going to their profile page and clicking the "Message" link in the left sidebar (at the top on mobile). A prompts system is already on the to-do list, but I like the way it's described here. A dark mode for the text section of stories has already been implemented, but a full-site dark mode is on the to-do list.
back dating uploads
I know AO3 allows backdating entries, but I'm not 100% sure if it's a great idea for various reasons. But if many of you are interested in having that ability, I may implement it. If anyone else has an opinion on this, I'd love to hear about it below/in Asks.
Forums or more opportunities for user interactions would be great - I think making it more of a social space for users to post questions/ideas/thoughts about klaine, recommend or discuss fics, and have conversations about related topics would set the site apart from other options for posting fic.
Yes, I agree! I would love to have more interaction options on the site. I do plan on adding in a forum, maybe even a chat and journal posting system as well. These might be a ways away, but they are on the list, I promise.
I would like found the stories which are labelled with the special attention because they are most relevant and people liked these stories so much. A special section.
I think you're referring to some kind of Featured section, which the original S&C did have. I am open to adding that back in, I even have the log of what was originally featured. It has been added to the list.
I would like you to add the options You can save authors or books and also add the option for an author to follow a story abandoned many years ago.
We currently have the option to track/bookmark/give kudos to stories and track authors. But, favoriting for stories and adding them to Lists is on the to-do list.
What do you think would draw more active authors to add to the archive?
- Active partnership/collaboration with things like prompt bangs, the Lima Bean and the Klaine CC library for maximum exposure. - The prompt archive I mentioned previously.
I'm open to working with other Klaine fandom groups and events. I do have a really exciting feature planned that would allow events to be hosted on the site. I can't wait to share it with you all :)
knowing it is up and not going away
I hear you. I'm sure the site going down for over a year damaged some trust in the validity and longevity of separate site archives. However, rest assured that I plan on keeping this site alive as long as I'm here, and have taken measures to ensure that it'll never get lost again. In the event that things do go south (extremely unlikely at this point), the archive will be handed over to AO3's Open Doors project for preservation.
It needs to have elements that make it, in some way or another, equally or more attractive to post on than AO3. Somehow leaning into the Klaine-centric nature of it, or offering user interaction features that don't exist on AO3, might make it a better place to engage with readers about Klaine fic.
I agree. I think the upcoming interaction features I have planned will help with this.
Implementing the Cloudflare security like ff.net. I HATE that I have to authenticate regularly and it often fails.
I'm not sure what you're referring to regarding having to authenticate, and you didn't leave a contact account on the survey so I can't ask you directly about your experience. But I've personally never had an issue with authentication on the site on PC or mobile. The SSL certificate is valid and should show the Secure lock on browsers. If anyone has any more information on this issue or recently experienced anything similar, I'd love to hear about it below, in an Ask, or by message.
As a reader, what would draw you to or prevent you from using Scarves & Coffee?
Tag searching and filtering. The more specific the better, but it should still search for things if you misspell them or if you word your search differently than the popular tag. (Like on ao3)
Yes! I have adding a section for tags on my to-do list that would include blacklisting. However, I can't promise that it would work quite like on AO3, simply because S&C doesn't have a giant team of tag wranglers like AO3 does that allows it to have such a dynamic tagging system. But I'll try to make it as usable as possible.
I can’t find a story that I want to read in that moment easily. It’s difficult sorting stories.
I'm not really sure how to make it more straightforward besides adding a tagging system. There's the Categories page for specific categories and all of the filters on the browsing page. If you or anyone else has specific suggestions or ideas to improve finding stories, let me know.
How would you feel about Scarves & Coffee expanding to include entries from its former sister site, Sebklaine.net? Should they remain separate archives?
The majority has spoken! Sebklaine and S&C will remain separate archives, but....
Would you be open to Scarves & Coffee being part of a network of separate archives, such that you could use the same account to access each individual archive? Why or why not?
sure
Yes, so long as I can still choose what to share with the world (private bookmarks etc)
yes
I think this is a good compromise - ultimately I feel that they should remain separate, because I think a lot of users strongly feel that they want to see content from certain ships and not others. But having them be closely-connected sister sites in some fashion sounds like a great idea.
It’s easy use the same account!
Look out for some Sebklaine.net and It-Could-Happen.net related news at some point ;)
---------------------------------
Thank you again to everyone that participated. If you missed the survey and would like to share your opinion on any of the questions or responses, feel free to do so in the replies, by sending in an Ask, by messaging ritco, or emailing the site at [email protected].

hey for the noob, what's a repost? why are they bad? what's the diff btwn 'reblog' and 'repost'?
thx for explaining!
Howdy!!
I'm glad you asked!
Basically, a repost/art repost is when someone posts a piece of artwork they didn't create and then posts it on their own account, usually without crediting the original artist. This often makes it look like the person who reposted it IS the original artist, and any attention, likes, reblogs, followers, etc., all go to the reposter, instead of the artist who actually created the piece.
Example 1: I go on Pinterest and I find a piece of artwork and I go OH WOW THAT'S PRETTY I NEED TO SHOW EVERYONE I'VE EVER MET so I download the piece of art work, make a brand new tumblr post, put the art in that post, and go HEY LOOK AT THIS ART.
Example 1 is a repost.
A reblog, on the other hand, is basic Tumblr functionality in which any old blogger hits the "reblog" button and kinda..."passes forward" from the original poster. When you reblog a creator's work, they still get the notes, followers, etc. - it's still clear that they're the person who actually created the piece of artwork.
Example 2: I'm scrolling my dashboard and I see someone with username person12345 say, HEY EVERYONE I MADE AN ART DO YOU LIKE IT? And I think to myself, YES I DO, so I hit the reblog button.
Generally speaking, reposts are *highly* frowned upon and considered extremely rude. If you didn't make something yourself, don't post it unless you have express permission OR the original creator has something like "Reposts allowed" on their account (which is rare but does happen. Even an authorized repost should always have credit to the original creator attached to it; "Credit to the owner" is not credit. The reasoning is that, firstly, artists put a fuckton of work into what they create, so for someone to just take it post it somewhere else is kinda fucked (like, imagine if someone did that with a fanfic!). Secondly, a lot of artists rely on sales to their shops, commissions, etc., to get income - but when work is reposted without naming them or without linking them, they lose out on all of that.
Reposting on this website ranges from completely innocent "oh oops I didn't realize that wasn't nice" all the way through intentional attempts at theft/taking credit from original creators. If I had a nickle for every time someone called me a bitch, asshole, or crusader for suggesting they not repost, I'd be able to buy, like...dinner.
Generally speaking, posting work you DID make yourself is awesome, as is reblogging from artists who post their own work.
I could go into a LOT more about this, but tbh it'd kinda be reinventing the wheel. Instead, lemme grab some existing resources that can add more information to this, if you want to know more.
@dont-repost-art is a cool account dedicated to spreading information about why reposting is bad. It's not really active anymore but if you just scroll through what they've reblogged in the past you'll still get some good info.
How to Spot Art Reposts: a long post I wrote a bit ago, discussing art reposting, why it's bad, and how to recognize signs that piece might be a repost, with an emphasis on danmei fandoms on Tumblr.
Flow Chart: Can I Post This Fanart?
Really everything in the tumblr search "art reposting" which is full of artists being upset about people reposting their work....kinda says it all
FINAL NOTE: When an artist says "do not repost" they do NOT mean "do not reblog." Please, please reblog artist work, if you like it. Creators are what make this site so amazing, and when their work doesn't get much love, creators get discouraged and don't want to keep creating. When people steal their work without crediting them, they don't want to keep creating. When people treat them like art-producing machines, they don't want to keep creating. NOT reposting, and ACTIVELY reblogging (with a healthy side dose of "saying nice things in the tags") is a great, small, easy way that every single fan on this site can help creators fell all warm and happy and like they should keep making things.
Hope this helps!

So you don't like a social media website, what can you do about it?
I know many share in my feelings towards the way some totally generic and not specific social media website is ran; it's generally unfair treatment of LGBT+ individuals (especially trans women), the way it censors pro-Palestine voices; even just the aggressive monetization capitalizing on user made memes and the like.
Now clearly I'm not speaking on any specific website here, just a hypothetical of course; don't come at me with pitchforks and the ol' deactivation button.
The problem I see more often than not is a sort of mentality that we don't have anywhere else to go. That all the big social media sucks but that there's no alternatives. To which I need to ask you why you think that way? It's very likely that you think that way because you've been conditioned to not know any better. Centralized internet is designed this way, you probably know about a handful of "third spaces" for online social media, things like mastadon, bluesky, or maybe even SpaceHey. However I would argue that only a very small amount of individuals actually know about various webrings, forums, or other community spaces where they are not bound by the whims of a corporate overlord deciding what they can and cannot post.
Look this isn't a put down, I'm not trying to loom over you saying I'm somehow someone who's better, and more educated; and you're some sad centralized social media user with nowhere to go. I understand that many get defensive when I talk about these sorts of things, they view it like I'm talking down to them from my high horse. That's just, not at all the intention and I need you to lower your guard a bit and understand that I'm speaking to you not as someone who deems myself superior, but as a friend who sees you suffering and wants to lend a hand.
I ask you, how many of you actually have your own homepage? A place on the internet just for you? I know a great many people who do, and I know a great many people who don't. I won't say such a thing is absolutely necessary but I do believe it's a good place to start. Imagine if you will, having your own website, a website that can be made to whatever vision you have for it. Your own aesthetics, your own music, your own graphics; whatever layout you may want; whatever posts you may desire to put there. We're not talking about just another social media account with minor customization. We're talking about a space that is entirely your own, where no one and nothing can dictate what you say or do there. Want to write about trans issues? Do it! Literally no one can stop you! That information is now available on the web! Want to write about the genocide and provide helpful links that people can use to donate or provide aid? You can do that too! It's YOUR website, not your tumblr, not your facebook, not your twitter; those aren't YOURS.
As much as we may become attached to our blogs, our social media accounts ultimately belong to the company that provides us with them. I could post art that I spent years making but the second it's uploaded to tumblr, they could just slap it on some merch if it became popular enough. Because ultimately my blog and everything here on it belongs to tumblr; and while some of you may want to fight that notion with legal "got ya"s the truth is that none of us have the money to fight something like that in court even if we're in the right. Which like, we're not; sorry that's just how sites like this function; you don't own anything here, that's why tumblr can just up and deactivate your account if they don't like you; it's why they can sell your posts to AI companies even without your consent.
There used to be a widely understood rule of the internet, a few in fact; that once you put something out there, it was out there; and people would do what they wanted with it. Ultimately it was on you for deciding to put it out there. With the rise of social media becoming something that anyone had access to, and not just those who invested the time in making their own sites; we saw this sort of "ownership" mentality sprout up. This idea that this is MY blog and the things on it are MINE. We forget just how little power we have here, and there's this notion that kicking and screaming about it will somehow change things. It won't.
Look you can debate me on this all day, all you'll be doing is putting more money into the pocket of the company you hate. It doesn't matter if you use ad block, it doesn't matter if you don't buy their merch; if you're making posts on this site you're adding to it's user activity. That's what investors are looking at, that's what advertisers are looking at; that is what tumblr's success is based on.
You want to send a message? Silence yourself here.
But I get it, I do; that's not easy. Because we've become dependent on social media like this. Fun fact it's actually not an addiction! Addictions are scientifically defined as being something that alters your brain chemistry. Things like pornography, or even doom scrolling on things like tiktok are not addictions. They're actually just the easiest method of obtaining dopamine; something our brain wants. So when we start to run low on dopamine (something that happens very easily in people with depression and the like) our brain has been taught to turn to the quickest and easiest method of obtaining it. This is why when you're bored you likely open social media, scroll for a bit; close it and then open it again. You're not addicted, you're dependent. The reason I say this isn't just because it's something I see a lot of people talking about; but also because I think it's important to understand you can actually flip that dependency to something else. That may sound bad but I want you to consider, if you come to tumblr and you get upset about the way things work here, and you surround yourself with negativity; and sure it gives you dopamine to see numbers go up as notes flood in on popular posts and you maybe see a funny meme. Is that really "healthy" as much as say, surrounding yourself with conversation about things you like, positivity; and generally good things you enjoy? Sure it's social media either way, but at least now you're not negative and stressed constantly.
Regardless, I say all of this because I want to introduce you to something; the Web Revival Movement. You may have heard of this before, you may not have. You may not know what it means, and perhaps seeing the word "movement" is scary because it sounds like something with an agenda or rules or something it expects of you.
Eh, don't worry it's nothing of the sort... well not really; let me explain.
The Web Revival Movement goes by a few names, with this being the most popular I've seen. From what I understand the name comes from the Folk Revival, which promoted humanity, creativity, and equality during a time when it was heavily favorable to simply rely more and more on machines for everything. The Web Revival Movement aims to promote those same values during a time of relying more and more on digital means.
"Well hold on-" you might say, "this sounds like you're trying to tell me to get off the computer and go touch grass or something..."
I can understand where you may think this way, but believe me it's not like that. It's more about reclaiming the technology we use in our day to day lives.
This is why I mentioned earlier, you don't own your blog. You likely don't own a lot of what you use, not really. It's entirely likely that everything from your computer, to your phone, to even your car if you have something modern; is updating or collecting your data without your consent. How many times have you been fed up with your technology forcing updates? How often have you had to switch web browsers because the one you're using decided to do something shady? How often have you had to try to shield yourself from the ever present eyes of data collection?
Say before we continue, this site uses cookies; would you like to accept all of them... or just the ones I personally deem "necessary" for you to use this site? No is not an option :)
The Web Revival movement is about asking what you want from the tech you use, what do you want from social media? What do you want from your phone? From your computer, or even just websites?
When you hear "Web Revival" you may believe it has to do with exclusively bringing back the "old web" but that's not the case. It's about reviving what made the web so great in the early days of it's creation. The freedom of expression, the excitement of creation; the ownership you had over your experience.
In fact, the Web Revival Movement isn't even a singular movement; rather it's a collective of groups who all share the same manifesto in some way or another.
If you're curious what binds all these groups to the same collective, let me explain. At the forefront of the movement is creativity, you create this space, not the companies who want to censor you and control what you do and what you say. Your ability to design your own space, and do with it as you please is essential. Likewise, on the flip side we're very anti-corporate. We're tired of the constant monetization, data collection, targeted ads, we don't want to be a product to be harvested and sold. We want to be people! Speaking of people, the web should be a fun and friendly place. We uplift and support one another, creating a space that's fun and exciting to explore. We want to create a place for everyone, without paywalls, without boarders; it's not my fandom vs your community here. We're in this together, and we're all friends here. Likewise, when we create, we do so out of love for the craft. You make your own website because it's a place for YOU, not to market something to me, not to be popular; not to win points or fame. You create what you want because you want to! The freedom to create is important to us, whether it's digital or physical; and many will tinker with or modify as a form of protest for the way centralized internet tries to make us all use the same tech and fit the same mold. Lastly we're anti NFTs, we're anti crypto; we're anti unethically trained AI. We're not here for fancy buzzword tech.
We create what we can and make the web a bigger and better place for it.
I ask you, seriously; genuinely. Do you want to be marketed? Do you want to become a product for a company to harvest and sell? Do you want to be treated like less than a human? To be deactivated when you're no longer profitable? Is this what any of you want? It's not what I want.
Our goal is to combine what was great about the old web and what's great about the now; while making sure we don't allow greedy corps into it.
We don't want you to go "touch grass" we want you to help us build a sense of community, and optimism in the technology that exists today. There's no need for it to be perfect, we just want you to take the first step! To try something, to create something!
If you've made it this far and you're reading this going "yeah! YEAH!" Then I challenge you, go here to Neocities -> https://neocities.org/
Now sign up, use a throwaway email or whatever I don't care. Just name your website whatever you want; do the tutorial if you don't know HTML very well, or even look up layout builders! There's a ton of options out there! You don't need to know how to code you can pick it up as you go.
Make SOMETHING, make boring websites, make ugly websites; I don't care! Leave your mark, put something out into the world; this is how you take the first step!
Look we'll make this easy, we'll do it together; no I know that sounds cheesy and lame and stupid but hang in there for just a second stay with me here please. If you've made it this far I want to make it as easy for you as I can!
First off, go ahead and open that "index.html" file selecting "edit" when mousing over it! Neocities should have given you a few files in the "edit my website" part of the site. We're mostly concerned with index.html right now.
Now go ahead and get rid of the text there, and we'll be starting from scratch okay? Don't worry this is gonna be easy!
So we're coding a website right? So we need to create a space for that website, let's do that now, add the following:
<html>
</html>
^ Whenever we add something to the code, it's going to need to go inside these little < > brackets, that's how the code knows what we want. Likewise, we're going to need to group things within a sandwich of sorts. Think of the <HTML> sandwich as being the space your website is in. In other words if I do this:
<html>
</html>
<p> This is text I want displayed on my website :D </p>
^ The text won't show up! It's outside of the website bounds right?
We use the same command as the start of a command, to end the command; but we include a / before the command prompt to denote it's ending.
<p> is a paragraph command! That means it will display text we write between the opening bracket <p> and the closing bracket </p>!
Now, let's actually recreate the starting paragraph of this post but as a website!
First we'll start off by creating the space for the website, to do that we'll use the html command:
<html>
</html>
Now inside that we'll include a few things. First let's use <body> to tell the website that we want this text displayed on the "body" of the website. Think of a website in parts as accordingly:
The <head> will go above the <body> and the <body> will go above the <foot> that much likely makes sense to you:
This is a fun example because it will show you how forgiving HTML really is! Notice how both <head> and <body> don't require me to include end tags? You don't necessarily NEED the </head> and </body> calls for it to understand because it already has the starting tag of <body> for <head> and <foot> for <body>!
Your website would look like this:
But that's not recreating the opening of this text post is it?
In fact, we started with a large title! So then how can we make titles?
Turns out there's a lot of ways!
If that's all too small to read in pictures:
The <h1> </h1> command/tag creates a header, you can actually use h2, h3, and so on as necessary!
Then you have commands like <strong> and </strong> to create bold text!
You cal additionally use <big> </big> to make text larger, and you could combine this with <strong><big> </strong></big> if you wanted it to be larger and bold!
Then you have things like color, which can be set using the style tag!
<p style="color:red;"> for example, will make all the text inside the paragraph tag brackets red!
That means our code would look something like this:
And since Tumblr hates images that's super tiny, sorry!
Now granted, this is pretty bare bones, but it exists! The eagle eyed among you might even note that my code is actually not 1 to 1 with this, because I had used the <strong> </strong> tag on the words "deactivation button" for fun, but then deleted that bit of text for the screenshot. So hey, good on you if you caught that!
There are tons of cheat sheets out there for commands and tags, there's tons of different sites that will teach you about how to code in HTML, and the best of all is; no one cares/minds if this is what your site ends up being, if it's just some text on a page that you personally created and put out there. If that's all you want to create, that's fine! I think it's ultimately something you'll want to get better at and learn and improve with, but it's not something you NEED to. You can get involved through finding forums or other decentralized spaces to be a part of.
Now, if you'll allow me to further prompt action from you; I want you to go to the Neocities' search page, I want you to think of a tag, any tag; what are you into?
Anime? Games? Writing? Anything! Search for it, and go through other people's websites. Get lost going through web rings, click links and see where it takes you!
In fact, if you see something you like, right click on it -> Inspect Element and you can literally copy that bit of code to your own website and then you can swap out whatever link, image, or text was there with whatever you want! No one is going to mind, that's not stealing! Imitation is the greatest form of flattery!
Challenge yourself to find links that lead you to other places, find forums and explore the posts there, maybe sign up and say hi; go sign guest books on pages that have them.
THIS is the web! You're not limited to some poorly ran generic centralized social media site that is totally non-specific and doesn't rhyme with "...umblr" or something.
Remember, if it's shit, hit da bricks! Cultivate these online spaces, they may not be popular now; that's fine! They can be cultivated into something better when people are willing to come out and accept the wider internet culture! It's different, and I get that might be scary; but it's free and it's beautiful and it's fun! So get out there and make the web a bigger and better place! Stop feeling chained to the centralized web!

Top Ten reasons why I hate You

synopsis. tenacity and spite aren’t really a great combination and Jake Sim knows it well.
word count. around 1800
pairings. jake x afab!reader
genre. kind of enemies to lovers??
warnings. i cursed and i also got bitchy
authors notes. hi everyone! this is the first time I’m posting on this site, hope you’ll like it!! English is not my first language, so let me know kindly if there are some mistakes.
(also i do NOT hate Jake, I actually love him too much, this was just for fun!!!)
Hi, I guess?
Sorry Diary, I haven't done this since third grade, I lost all my magic.
if it was up to me you wouldn't exist, this is all Jungwon's idea.
He said and I quote: "Maybe writing about it will give you some sort of inner piece, or maybe it will help you cope or process. It will do more good than harm, just try it". But then I refused, he clapped back and things got desperate really quickly (he knows exactly what to say and how to act to make me give in). Plus, I'm taking psychology this semester, saying no wouldn't have given me any credibility whatsoever.
So here I am, writing in a hate journal about a stupid frat boy (derogatory) for the sake of my friends' mental health (and also because they all have frequent headaches, pretty sure we are the cause of it).
I would like to start off by saying I am not a “fiery beast escaped from the flaming chambers of Hell”, even if I quite like the epithet (it’s giving Dante’s Inferno). If Jake (the stupid frat boy) was writing these pages, he would have kept that supernatural narrative, going on about how monstrously evil I am. I have a message for that troglodyte: my diary, my money, my story, and I will tell it how I like it (the girlbossification of y/n, we love to see it).
Contrarily to what he thinks (and fuck what he thinks), many say I am a good person, a really good person even.
I always stall Mr Kim when that sleepyhead of Sunoo is late to class (after several years of observing and refining my theory, I finally came to the conclusion that the closer you live to the school, the later you'll arrive), I always patiently help that senior citizen of Heeseung with his electronics (even if I really want to hit him with the TV's remote, because really Heeseung it's not that hard, most buttons have the function written on them, you just have to press them), I always make sure that hot tempered mess of Riki doesn't get himself killed (task that costed me a black eye once), I always end up forgiving every one of my unhinged friends (I can't really stay mad at them for long anyway, how could I? At the end of the day, they're pretty cute).
Unfortunately, like every other human being (except for Taylor Swift, the queen herself) I have a few, totally forgettable, little flaws.
Jay often tells me I might have a teeny, tiny, almost invisible controlling problem (which is actually hot if you ask me), remark I really can't take seriously considering it comes from someone who can't stand being wrong. Heeseung has pointed out a few times that I may not be the most tolerable person when drunk, but I would like to point out to him that I, at least, am extremely predictable (unlike him) since I follow a precise scale of drunkenness that goes from silly dances to uncontrolled and unjustified giggles (I think I am adorable when drunk, Heeseung is a loser for not agreeing with me). Sunghoon never forgets to scold me for being "the biggest bitch ever" to his beloved, Sim Jake (I can't defend myself on this one, he is absolutely right but I will never say this to his face).
The thing is, my friend group still hasn't had the opportunity to grasp on the fact that I am extremely bad at letting grudges go, I hold on to them for as long as I can. I have to admit, it happened to me on several occasions to forget the reasons behind them, but what can I do? Give up? Suddenly change my behaviour? I don’t want people to think I am a crazy, moody bitch, I prefer they think of me as a bitch without any other attribute, I don't really need all that decoration.
I guess you can add to the mix the fact that I am also pretty stubborn. Tenacity and spite aren't really a great combination and Jake knows it well.
To be honest with you diary, I forgot why I hate him so much but he gives me at least one new reason every day to do so.
First of all, he skipped Lady Gaga on the radio. that alone I could have ignored, but after that heretic act he pronounced these precise words, and I quote, "who even enjoys this kind of music", with the most arrogant tone ever. For your information Jake, I do, you little piece of shit.
He also said that Yeonjun is "just okay", and that I was "blowing this out of proportion" by calling him "the most beautiful creature to ever walk on heart". Jealousy is quite a bitch, I guess.
Petty motives, aren't they? Yes, of course. In all sincerity, I just believe me and him are too different to coexist civilly in the same environment. He is always pushing the wrong buttons, the big red ones with "DO NOT TOUCH" written all over. He does this on purpose, I’m convinced. He must not like me too.
To further prove my points, I made a contained list for you, my dear Diary, where I picked the top ten things I hate about Jake Sim (so I can antagonize him and explain why I am right at the same time). I know, I know, just like the movie. I had to pick a number, okay? I could have written for infinity but neither of us have all that time.
Disclaimer: it gets ugly
1. He is legitimately the worst at pranks but he won't give you the same answer if you ask him. He goes either way too small (he once moved every piece of furniture in my apartment by half a centimetre. Spoiler: I didn't notice and he almost went insane) or way too big (he freed a racoon in said apartment that destroyed most of said pieces of furniture. Also, it had rabies).
2. He is the biggest nerd. He picked maths and physics in college and made that his entire personality. Now I might be a bitch, but I am not a monster. I am all for talking about one's passions, but there is a limit, it being my total lack of interest towards Einstein and his stupid clock tower (with all due respect Mr Einstein). I also have unprocessed trauma from high school (it's the teachers' fault if I can't look at numbers without crying). So, no Jake, I am not bad at those, I just happen to despise them as much as I despise you.
3. He tries so bad to understand literature and refuses to accept that he really doesn't. He is extremely factual and he said himself multiple times that he doesn't believe in anything that isn't supported by objective actualities. Stories aren't always rational because human behaviour isn't always rational. He is convinced he can understand literature by using the same approach he uses for Math!!! How unacceptable is that? And that is why you didn't enjoy Wuthering Heights Jake, you tasteless little bitch! (He insults that masterpiece one more time and he is done for).
4. He is a robber, a criminal, an offender. He always steals Riki from me. And do not get me started on Sunghoon! Every time I happen to be alone with them, he approaches with his callous, grabby hands and takes them elsewhere, leaving me all alone. They like me better anyways Jake, get over it!!!
5. He ruins all the pictures. I can't post a group photo because of him. He's always right in the middle (I can't even crop him out and he gets extremely sensitive when I photoshop a celebrity in his place) with his stupid, constipated face. What's with that expression? Who lied to him? I swear his bottom lip will fall out one day from all the biting (I like to think that the doctors will have to use the skin from his ball sack to reconstruct it so that no one will kiss him ever again).
6. He makes me homesick. Layla this and Layla that, he always makes me think about the dog I left at home on the other side of the globe, the family I left behind. I face my personal dilemmas more than I would like because of him and believe me, realizing daily what a shitty daughter and sibling you are isn't ideal. I can't even cheer myself up with Layla, for some reason he is gatekeeping her from me, I have never even seen a picture of her. Scared she will like pick me over you, Sim?
7. I hate when he calls me "baby", "princess", "sweetheart" and other stomach upsetting pet names, mainly because his flirting (at least that's what Sunoo says it is) is pitiful and it gives me a heart attack every two business days.
8. He never worries. "y/n it's just a little coffee", Jungwon never blinked that day, not even once. "Relax y/n, it's chocolate", Riki was high on sugar. "We're at a party, have fun for once baby" Heeseung ended up in a fountain a neighbourhood away from the feast and almost drowned (we had our own little Titanic that night). For the record, I do have a lot of fun Jake, stop calling me an "uptight little princess".
9. That fucker laughs at his own tiktoks, he watches his page for hours on ends and has the audacity of having the time of his life. I wonder how the fuck he still finds deez nuts jokes funny when he hasn't been twelve in a while. If you're thinking "well, that's tragic" and not "he is hopeless" it's because, Diary, you still don't know that he listens unironically to Drake in 2021. Now that is tragic. To all the girls and boys who simp for Jake I just want to say that no, you can't fix him.
10. He makes me feel sort of funny sometimes. I believe it's due to the stress he gives me while Sunoo, on the other hand, is convinced that my hate for him it's "just a cover" for my "romantic feelings" and "that's what's up with your accelerated heartbeat, dumbass".
Let's focus on our last point. First of all, cardiovascular diseases run in the family, the doctor once told me that I am subjected to episodes of heart insufficiency. So, there's that. Second of all, I will never fall for that cretin of Jake sim. What would I even fall for? His outrageous skinny jeans? His stupid hair? That dumb laugh of his?
Now let’s hypothesize that I like him (which I don’t, ew), why would he like me? But this is a conversation for another time.
This was sort of fun, maybe I’ll do this again tomorrow,
Bye bye Diary :)
