Unfortunately I don't have any fic recommendations - largely because I've been avoiding original fic on ao3, as I'm mostly writing at the moment.

My favourite traditional authors tend to bounce all over the place in terms of preference. However, I would absolutely suggest:

Anything written by Terry Pratchett (I adore that man's writing, his world building, and his humour). And alongside his individual works, Good Omens is always a lovely read, and a solid comfort book of mine (co-written with Neil Gaiman).

C.S. Pacat's Captive Prince trilogy is always a good read and appeals to my inner Classics geek with its world building (but mind the warnings on those books - they deal with some dark topics).

Ben Aaronovitch's first two books (Rivers of London and Moon Over Soho) are great if you'd like some modern urban fantasy (i.e. what happens if the Met Police have a wizard division that solves magical murders).

Madeleine Miller (Circe and The Song of Achilles).

Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner - an older book, but delightful. It's a fantasy setting with a Regency-esque flavour, about a hired swordsman and the scholar he's in love with. Pure delight.

I don't normally do Just Characters Swearing, but. ...this kind of wrote itself and then wouldn't leave my head. it comes from both a piece of character-writing advice that has always stuck with me, and also my conviction that Leona is 1000% funnier as a character if his dialogue has to stay G-rated. let Kalim say fuck, but don't let Leona say bastard.

I am fine with "the audience" -

downloading my fics

printing my fics

copy/pasting or screenshotting my fics

sharing your saved copy of my fics with anyone else who might want them in the unlikely but never impossible case that my fics are no longer available on ao3

making a book of my fic(s) and running your fingers across the pages while lovingly whispering my precioussss

doing these things with anything I create for fandom, such as meta, headcanons, au nonsense like 'texts from the brodinsons,' etc

I am not fine with "the audience"

doing any of the above with the purpose/intent of plagiarizing my work or passing it off as their own in any capacity

feeding my work into ai for any reason whatsoever

Listen, you should never film strangers in public without their consent, but I swear there need to be fines or something for people who do that shit in some spaces. For example: I had to go to the ER last night, and some jerk filmed a woman who just came in and was clearly having an asthma attack. She immediately got to go back, and he was unhappy about that. Believe me, I get that it sucks having to wait when you're in pain, but you don't get to pick who deserves care when. The medical system in the US is a nightmare, and the ER could be the worst moment of someone's life. No one deserves to be recorded because some jack ass believes someone doesn't look like they need care.

This is fine to reblog. People who film strangers should be shamed if nothing else.

You know, it would be amazing if Hollywood learned the right lesson from the success of Nimona. Something like "Hey, maybe don't throw out a nearly done movie as a tax write off" or "people want queer stories" or even "don't be afraid to take some storytelling risks and be original" but you just know they're going to come away with some absolutely batshit takeaway like, "next time delete all the evidence and burn it to the ground so the gays can't make us look bad!"
