Pomni- General internet goer and one of those Youtubers that made "day in the life" type vlogs showcasing how much fucking pressure she's under, has a pretty loyal and caring audience for her despite herself, ~100,000 subscribers or so and she *tries* to respond to every comment.

Caine- Not so much an Influencer persay but more so of creator of the popular social media apps and tries to be #hipwiththekids...it does not work very well he's posting Pokémon Go and Harlem shake memes in 2024..bless his heart

Bubble- Caine's social media manager! He's a little better with being hip with the kids, up to date with memes n stuff but he also gets attention in...less than convential ways. Think of what was happening with the Norm of the North Twitter account, just weird..weird shit.

Sun & Moon- They act as a duo of sorts on Tik Tok and they make skits and #unhinged humor that is probably liked by majority of everybody. Nobody can tell if they're dating or just friends, since Sun will say the most unhinged shit and Moon will just sigh dreamily at it while reciting a poem or shit. Moon has to stop Sun from responding to hate comments and going off on them and finding their address n shit.

Gloink Queen & Gloinks: The Gloink Queen is one of those Facebook moms who takes pictures of their children(her Gloinks) every time they do anything, even when they're crying, because she thinks it's "cute". She gets fairly popular at first and even gets to sell merchandise however as her audience grows, so does her criticism but Facebook doesn't do anything about it and she continues to exploit her children for views and attention.

Princess Loolilalu- Tiktok influencer that shows the daily life of a royal. She's fairly unpopular but she was the hot topic for a week because people thought she was flexing and she had to explain she wasn't trying to, she was just trying to show the daily life since some people in her kingdom had inquired about it. She gets very low engagement but she admires every comment she gets. She starts to shift towards more crafty stuff after honestly getting a bit bored filming every second of her life and that grows her audience a little bit.

Gummigoo - Tiktok Influencer that make illegal life hack videos and him just working on a farm(I assume he does cuz he gives off cowboy vibes) and he's unintentionally thirst trapping through those videos, which gives him a pretty large, dedicated and possibly a little too obsessed, audience.

Zooble- Youtuber that talks about the most depraved shit that people do in humanity, think like iceberg videos about shitty people online or the dark corners of Reddit and 4chan. Also probably has a second channel where they play *nothing* but Plants vs. Zombies 2 because idk it's funny and they need to do something else to not get entirely depressed

Kinger- He is a Youtuber, techinally, though he doesn't know how to operate a camera very well. Most of his videos are just snippets from his life, cooking some food, badly singing his favorite songs, and sharing a little too much of his life online. Still, he's regarded as Youtube's grandpa.

Kaufmo- A YouTube "prankster" that would do the worst fucking things imaginable(not illegal but..close to it) and one day he did..something..and he got killed for it as a result, it was all caught on camera. He was criticized a lot for doing what shit he was doing and when he died, it was covered but nobody was suprised.

Ragatha- If Kinger is the grandpa of YouTube, then Ragatha is the grandma because she posts a lot of crochet and stitching how tos while also sprinkling in her personality and some of her other interests, like making a crochet Undertale plushie or something.

Gangle- She's a very famous twitch streamer who is...I don't even know really how to describe it but she's very like "uwu" abt everything as her streamer personality yknow? And..I mean..it works, she gets enough donations in a 1 hour stream to pay her rent for 2 months so..as for her content, it depends, sometimes it's horror games and other times it's just chilling with chat.

Jax- Jax is...also...a streamer. He does snuff streams where he gets donations to torture people and stuff. It's illegal but he makes as much money, if not more, than Gangle.

first I want to say I really love your account and how you appreciate szobo! second I want to rant a little bit about how disturbed I am about how men on Twitter, tik tok and etc talk about Dom.

I have watched almost every Liverpool game this season and I have never understood the "joke" of Dom staring at the camera, he literally doesn't. It reeks of jealousy and obsession. I get it, He's a very attractive man and they don't know how to act, but instead of saying he's handsome and moving along, they make jokes at his expense and belittle his talent because of his looks. It's so frustrating.

And what's worse these "jokes" are becoming increasingly disturbing, why are people comfortable saying that Dom should do p*rn!? It's one thing to say you don't think he played well and he should be subbed out or whatever or say he should apply for a grocery store to work but to say he should do p*rn is actually insane. It's so sexually degrading towards Dom and idk if it's because these people don't know how to process the fact that they are very attracted to a man or what but it needs to stop.

Sorry for the rant, it's just I feel sorry for him because I don't think he deserves to be talked about that way at all, he seems like a pretty nice person with big aspirations at Liverpool so yeah...

Hi lovely! Thank you so much, it means a lot for you to say it! <3 I absolutely agree with you. There is criticism, even if harshly worded, but this is completely unacceptable behaviour. Even the 'camera stare' jokes got old pretty quickly, but these porn comments just crossed a whole other boundary. It's not funny. If it was a woman who was spoken about this way everyone would be outraged (or well I hope..), rightfully so. Like we get it, he is good looking, but let's not do this. This is not even about football anymore, or even trying to paint him as someone who is vain and egocentric. No, they oversexualize him, then abuse him for that.

I think another thing to note is that a lot of the TSATS negativity stems mainly from users on tumblr. I’ve been on twitter & Tik tok and the reaction seems to be overwhelmingly positive. Like the first few days the book came out, seeing tumblr reactions versus other platforms was literally like night and day. I’ve even seen some ppl say they cried a lot or that it’s their fav PJO book! (Which is a surprising but whatever 😭) I have seen some criticisms on the other platforms, sometimes about the writing quality or OOC-ness or being underwhelming, but it still wasn’t all terribly negative. The only place I’ve seen VERY VERY harsh vitriol is on here, and I’m not sure why. personally I thought TSATS was okay and I have my own criticisms, but honestly I have that with every PJO-verse book. Imo some of the takes I’ve seen here are valid, but some are also really really mean and honestly a tad overdramatic, but idk why or what it is about tumblr. I think I’ll stay away from here for a while when chalice comes out.

Ok. So.

You're saying that most of the negative reviews come from Tumblr whereas TikTok and Twitter give mostly good feedback. I think I can offer a few explanations about this.

Tl,dr:

Tumblr allows long posts, whereas Twitter and TikTok have a length-wise limit to their content.

Tumblr is more fandom-centered, a much more suitable place to rant in a book of a franchise.

Tumblr has a different approach, which enables different types of posts to come across you, unlike Twitter.

(Please keep in mind that I don't use TikTok, so most of this would be assumptions based on my limited knowledge about the platform. I have a Twitter account though)

Now. The first point is quite clear. Tumblr doesn't have any limitations to whatever you post on the site (or at least that limit exceeds normal people's capacity of writing/reading per post ajsdhakjdhak), which enables you to give long, complicated, detailed essays on a certain topic.

Which is the best fit if you want to criticize something.

Because unlike complimenting something, when you criticize it, you'd need to give a reason for how and why it is bad (in your opinion). To compliment something, you might just need to say simple things like "OMG I LOVE IT" "This is so adorable I might cry" etc...

Adding to that: sometimes it's just easier to list what you dislike, you know? 🤣🤣🤣 I mean. When you hate something, you'd find it very easy to focus on its flaws to dissect, which results in many rants. Whereas when you love something, you just... love it. Not mentioning sometimes you can find it hard to articulate said love.

In Twitter's case: Twitter has a character limit, which hinders people's need to rant. This appears unsuitable when you want to rant about st in dissatisfaction. Although, it'd be pretty good if you're overwhelmed with love and want to flood the complimenting post with memes.

Yes, there're people writing a whole long ass thread on Twitter. But again, with Tumblr alr providing a function, it's understandable which one would prefer.

TikTok, in addition to having a length cap on their videos - which acts roughly the same as Twitter's character limit, allows only video format. This is just a hypothesis, but I suspect people might be discouraged by the idea of making, filming, and editing a video about something they don't like - rather than just... writing it down. I find the second choice much easier.

Similar to the above, Tumblr is more fandom-centered. The app is literally advertised as for Fandoms and Creators.

When you want to share an opinion on a certain topic, you'd go for those who at least have a semblance of whatever you're talking about, right?

Tumblr is created for fandoms and has its own tag system. This makes it easier when you're targeting a certain group of enjoyers. I doubt that Twitter and TikTok, while having their own tagging systems, would be more effective than Tumblr. (Ppl on Twt rarely use tags when it comes to fandoms......)

Different approaches.

Tumblr, as far as I know, filters content by tag. Which means that if you look into the The sun and the star tag, you'd see everything related to it. If you like something from it, chances are you'd get recommended another post in said tag, regardless of what it is about. Including conflicting opinions.

On Twitter, on the other hand, if you want to see a certain topic, chances are you'd need to:

1/ Follow someone who's active on said topic. Generally, you would go for someone you like/ share some of your sentiments/ you vibe with to follow right? Hence, chances are they would share the same view as you.

2/ Search for the tag. But I doubt people would use tag for this book.

3/ Search for any other keywords. This runs the risk of missing content, which might or might not include the criticizing post.

Of course: This^^ relies heavily on my predictions and assumptions of your engagement. It might not apply that well.

All in all, it all comes down to whether and where people choose to express themselves. I have a Twitter and a Tumblr, and I choose to deliver most of my PJO content on Tumblr. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ You don't see me criticizing on Twt, but I'm def there.

About Chalice though, I don't think you need to worry lol. TSATS has its problems because it focuses on already controversial topics and is put on a pedestal before release, so people tend to be more extreme. Chalice, on the other hand, afaik, is about another average quest by Percy? It's not that... extreme, I mean, and there's hardly and complicated plot. I think of it more as a side story, really. So maybe you don't have to worry that much? lol i do hope so. 😂😂

Favorite Male Character: King Leovigild, of Visigothic Iberia c. 568-586CE. Most of what we know about him comes from a seventh-century work of Visigothic hagiography, vitas patrum emeretensium aka The Lives of the Fathers of Merida. He gets a bad rep from certain sections of it, and a lot of hagiographical tropes apply, but by doing a careful reading and cross referencing with some chronicles and law codes (primary sources on Visigothic Iberia are scarce!) it's possible to get a much more nuanced picture of him. Anyway I'm weirdly defensive of this random Visigothic king fghjk. Okay other favorite male character, so to speak, is Saint Francis. I love him, I almost wrote a thesis on him, he's my fave. ALSO Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, who wrote "The Meditations" which were his personal musings and notes to self never intended for publication. I would highly suggest the Gregory Hays translation, as it's really easy to connect to. My students loved reading bits of it and really connected with the text, which was a real breakthrough. If I talk about Marcus Aurelius too much I start tearing up fghjghjk

Favorite Female Character: Queen Radegund of Poitier. She's so fascinating! She's a great case study in the avenues of power and autonomy open to sixth-century noblewomen, and there's so much to glean from the various accounts about her. She escaped her husband and became an abbess, and her story is worth a read! I also love Saint Christina the Astonishing who is just...wild. I highly suggest googling her if you don't know her already

Least Favorite Character: Tik tok 'historians' dfghjk

Favorite Ship: Gonna pass on this one although one time I made a joke about writing a slash fic of Leovigild and Masona, the bishop he was fighting with. A JOKE

Favorite Friendship: I find the friendship between Queen Radegund and the poet Venantius Fortunatus really interesting. He wrote about her!

Favorite Quote: Anything from my seminar paper eyyyyyyy. Also a whole bunch of excerpts from "The Meditations" because there's so much to connect to in them. It's like reaching back through the ages and touching the mind of this man who is so utterly different than me in every way, but I still understand things he expresses and feel this deep sense of connection even as I know that we're so profoundly different. It's such a personal work because it was never meant to be published! It would be like if someone published my notesapp stuff sdfghj. Also he addresses himself as 'you' in his notes to himself which I also do, and I love that. Anyway there are so many great moments in that text. At one point he talks about not wanting to get out of bed in the morning. Mood. There are also so many beautiful parts that I connect to on a more painful level. I find many sections of the work to be legit helpful and inspiring to me in my daily life, and it's gotten me through some hard times, so it's a very special text to me. And I get a little teary thinking about how this long dead man's words can resonate today. It's like he's talking to us. Me and my parasocial relationship with roman emperor Marcus Aurelius. But anyway my very favorite quote from the entire work is one that ends in "While you're alive and able--be good." There's something that really hits me about that, not least of which is because when I was a teenager I wrote almost exactly the same sentiment on my bunkbed, as a note to self. I hadn't read The Meditations yet back then, I was just expressing this sentiment as a reminder or a call to action or some such thing, and then years later I read the words of a random Roman emperor from the second century CE that were an exact echo of my own words (or my words were an echo of his?) And idk, that struck me. That a teen girl in the 2010s and a roman emperor in the second century could write down the same little note to self.

Worst Character Death: uhhh...Jesus. That one caused some long-term issues (this is a joke I do not have a least favorite death from my areas of study dfghj)

This made me so happy you have no idea Moment: I just love everything about the periods and people I study, I love history, I love the fact that people are people are people, I love engaging with the parts of the past that I study on their own terms, but also feeling this connection and seeing these shared threads of humanity. That's what it's all about to me, you know?

Saddest Moment: When I have to actually put my ideas into essay form. Or I mean, at least the initial bit of that process is hard

While I agree that the thirst traps etc are probably helping with the growth of Ferrari's social media accounts, I wonder if it's not inadvertently damaging "Ferrari the brand™️". The point of social media is to benefit the brand and obviously the PR team will assess that they're doing a good job because of the massive amount of growth, but as we're always told in social media world "followers doesn't equal sales". So yes, maybe they have millions of new followers across all platforms, but how many of those followers are just there for ice bath content and don't actually watch the races vs how many actually care about the team, how many of them are coming to the track and buying merch and coming out to Ferrari events. I worry that this memefication of Ferrari's socials will alienate this second group of fans and more importantly, sponsors. I know that for potential new sponsors, millions of followers across your social media platforms is probably an attractive factor, so I don't think the suits at ferrari would care that much because they're making their money. But for all these years Ferrari has been an exclusive brand, and I think having that exclusivity would be an even more attractive opportunity for prospective sponsors (and sponsors with similar "brand weight" as Ferrari) because they'd want to align themselves with a "high value brand" (kind of like an Hermes effect), and I feel like Ferrari the f1 team has completely lost that feel of a prestigious brand. All the clown jokes have obviously originated from the on track performance, but I don't think the current social media strategy is helping to shift this narrative at all (not to mention the effect on the drivers image). You cant have your bio be all about your legacy as the most successful F1 team, but then post almost exclusively tik tok trends and driver thirst content. Idk, there's just a bit of a dissonance there. I don't want them to go back to how it was, that was definitely too stuffy, but now they've gone too far in the other direction. There's definitely a middle ground and I think they came close to it maybe 2 years ago where there was a good balance between simple race stuff and fun driver things. I think merc does a pretty good job of hyping their drivers, posting about race things, highlighting other team members and acknowledging their past accomplishments all while staying up to date with SM trends. Ferrari have got a new head of socal media and content that started this year I believe, so I wonder if this new pivot is to do with that while they find their way and especially how to deal with all the bad comments after a poor race. Sorry if this is all over the place, was getting my thoughts together while typing

So I think the really interesting thing that I'm noticing about this whole conversation/discourse around Ferrari's social media strategy is that there is almost this implication that Ferrari's social media admin is some rogue actor who has just made these decisions with no oversight and I would bet all of my money and all of my reputation on that being the complete opposite.

This brings me to what is the most interesting part of all of this is that this social media shift is a conscious choice by Ferrari. The social media team did not just decide that this content was what they were going to do all on their own. Marketing, legal, risk management, this was an involved decision which means that they've likely considered everything that you mentioned about fans, sponsors etc and they still decided that this was the best route to go.

I would give everything to have been in the board room for that discussion.

So I think everything you said is fair and valid criticism but ^^ is what I think is missing from this conversation which I don't know if that makes it worse or not? Like their strategy is definitely A Choice and I don't think we'll know any long-term effects on the Ferrari brand or the driver's personal brands for years.

Context rant for people who aren’t familiar with the series: they’re hating on a twelve year old black girl cos she was cast as a twelve year old white girl character, and yet the most important thing in any show or movie or tv show is the acting itself, and an actor, no matter how good they are, can’t change where they’re from, can’t change their heritage. Rick, THE MAKER OF THE BOOKS, says she’s perfect for it, so she’s perfect for the role of Annabeth Chase. Idk if anyone who needs context has seen the movies, but Annabeth is supposed to be this amazing smart girl who is also really good in battle, and, as a side note, has blonde hair and tanned skin, so she defies those ‘dumb blonde’ expectation things. But that’s not actually that frogging important, because the movies casted a brown haired girl who was nothing like annabeth, they made all the characters look about 18ish and they’re supposed to be twelve, they literally changed the plot and everything, and Rick riordan, the man himself, read the script and told them not to do it. they did it anyway  But now we’re getting a) an age appropriate cast, b) actors who actually suit the roles, c) a show rather than a movie so they have more time for all the details in the stuff, d) Rick actually in the scriptwriting and the casting processes and a whole bunch of other stuff so make it so much better than the movies were, not just to make his creation come to life properly, but also to make his fans happy And what do they do in response? harass a frogging 12 year old child because she wasn’t what they wanted

Dru: My girl would be shitting on Ed Sheeran. Making memes and everything. She definitely made those random ass fan edits for things like dish soap. She runs a satire account pretending to be an old conservative woman. She also fell into the Harry Potter hype but would never admit it to anyone. She is a marauders stan (and lowkey crushing on Tom Riddle/ Blaise). She was a deep tik tok and made fun of Gabbie Hanna.

Kit: Would also be shitting on Ed Sheeran. Definetly had a style glow up and now dresses in old nike crew necks with a white collared shirt underneath it and has an ear pierced. His nails are painted black. Blew up on tik tok and has the same humor as Claire Drake. Wears eyeliner now. Asks Dru and Emma for style tips. He’s also on witch tok.

Zara: She’s the TSC version of Trisha Patyas. She gets cancelled every two weeks for doing SOMETHING. Cristina is usually the one who calls her out, and then Emma spams Zara’s comments with tik tok insults (yk the ones). She’s on hype house tik tok. 

Mark: He’s on pet tik tok. His whole for you page is just animals, and they’re mostly dogs. He makes basic cute tik toks and people tell him he has golden retriever energy. He has as many followers as Kit, but his audience is different. 

Kieran: He’s on drug tik tok. He’s for you page is a bunch of hippes smoking and talking about the good effects of LSD and shrooms. He’s also on with tok and now owns many many crystals. He makes Cristina and Mark allign their chakras at least once every day. 

Julian: He’s on food tik tok. He made Emma whipped coffee like twice everyday when it was a trend. He has made full meals off of tik tok. He also has a food account where he shows people how to cook. Emma thinks its the cutest thing ever, but he doesn’t have a lot of followers. 

Ty: Ty is on science tik tok and animal tik tok, but not like Mark’s version of animal tik tok. His are mostly marine animals or just really obscure animals and it’s very informational. He comes away with about fifty new facts everyday, which he texts to Julian. 

Diego: He makes thirst trap tik toks. Has over a million followers. Posts shirtless almost all the time. His for you page is just dancing videos or memes. Him and Kit are mutuals, and Diego is always asking Kit to be in a tik tok with him. 

Jamie: He’s on Four Freaks Show tik tok and others with that same kind of humor. Runs an Ed Sheeran hate page. Him and Dru team up to troll conservatives. He has a decent amount of followers and a few of his videos have blown up but not many. Gen z tik tok humor is basically his second language. 

Helen: Helen is on cottagecore lesbian/ soft tik tok. Aesthetic videos of indie girls with long skirts and red hair. Forest videos. She’s a hozier stan now. Takes date ideas from tik tok and makes Aline go on picnics with her. She hasn’t posted any tik toks but she has over 100 drafts. annie had a … pretty normal childhood. seriously like, it’s bland. nothing special so i’ll keep this brief. they were born in alabama and lived there for a single year before moving and was raised in a house in hartford, ct to two loving parents. although they weren’t incredibly well off, they always made sure there was a pack of ice cream sandwiches in the freezer and clearance rack flowers on the kitchen table. annie was posted up outside of the house with chalk drawing every little thing their mind could come up with every single day even though their parents desperately wished they were inside playing with the little doctor’s kit that they got them for their ninth birthday. but no ❤️annie was determined to be an artist despite their parent’s early pleads not to be. and annie’s never been one to take signals correctly in their life so their only child ass took this as a sign to start being edgy and self absorbed, focusing so much on themselves that they kind of shut their family out and wasn’t entirely aware of potentially sketchy things their parents did to keep money in the bank account. fr they just became like ... roommates and didn’t talk. the last time they spoke was when annie needed a lawyer last year. 

in high school, annie was a weird mix of tropes. they were the weird mysterious kid in the back of your english class who went on rants about how annoying romeo & juliet and romance are and the one who was president of clubs you’ve never even heard of and the underclassman who was friends with all the scary seniors (and later became the scary senior). in their junior year, they also conveniently went viral for a series of paintings they made in ap art class. it started locally and with being kinda famous on facebook to big gallery installations that had pieces which conveniently fit the aesthetics of mansions and big buyers. seriously, fame came fast for annie and by the end of their senior year they were well known enough to catch the eye of a drug ring who offered to bass boost it all for the small price of taking part in the sales of their art so the dealers can put a couple grams of cocaine in one of their lil pottery pieces and end up with way more money than they started with. 

yale thought annie’s fame and art and obscene amount of followers on instagram was kinda sexy so they were offered a full ride and gladly accepted and sells off all of their paintings and pottery pieces they make in class because why not ❤️ so here they are. with like a million followers on their art instagram and a big ego.

and annie’s a kleptomaniac, honestly. there’s no deep backstory as to why they decided to steal a pair of diamond earrings last year besides the fact that they wanted to. thankfully the judge let them off with community service, but you bet they spun that story to their advantage as soon as they could. if you saw annie posted up on their insta story picking up trash off of the highway with a big smile and “making time to clean up our highways!” across the bottom in pretty cursive, yes you did.

annie’s entire personality is one big paradox and then some.

they keep their life as a ✨famous person ✨ kind of bland so people won’t know a lot about them at the surface level unless they do some research. like they’ve got a main art instagram and stuff but then a personal one that you’ve gotta search for and also just ... doesn’t do interviews or anything like that. 

annie really loves people. like they crave small talk and holding the door open for people and smiling at people when they walk by them on campus. but on a deeper level, it’s a rarity that they’re good with others. seriously, they don’t know what the word communication means. if annie has a close friend or s.o. who things work perfectly well with and things are understood, that’s probably pure coincidence. they just kind of expect to understand people and have others understand them. things probably are fine to a certain point, like making small talk with whoever whenever, but i imagine it can only go so far lmao. like when you try to get close to annie, you’ll probably get sent a 400 word text message about needing space but then the next day they’re asking you to come over for four loko friday. mixed signal realness.

amanda, do you have any advice for someone who's just moved out for college? i moved out 2 weeks ago (i was supposed to move in the fall when school started but covid) & idk i feel so?? lonely? or sad, i guess? i'm a freshman & i was super excited leading up to it, but i got here & i'm in an apartment with 5 strangers & i'm overwhelmed with how many adulting things i need to do, like groceries & laundry & cooking. i always thought i was pretty independent at home & i've also been away for 1/?

summer programs or events for a week, 2 months, etc. so it's not like i've never been away from home before & don't know how to cook or do laundry or stuff like that. idk. i don't get why i feel like this & so overwhelmed (also, i think now i get why most freshman move into the dorms instead of going straight to an apartment haha). my roommates seem nice too, i just don't know them that well yet. i feel kind of silly & pathetic & baby-ish about this since i know i'm so lucky to be able 2/?

First of all, congrats on moving out -- I’m really proud of you for taking the next right step toward your future. You’re doing great <3

Second, don’t you dare think this is something you’re alone in experiencing; although it can feel incredibly isolating and terrifying, I promise that everyone has felt this way the first time they moved out of their parent’s/guardian’s home. I sure as hell did, and I was 20 with a college degree!!! There’s no shame in it, and I’m proud of you for being able to verbalize your struggles and reach out for help.

These are a few things that helped me when I was living on my own for the first time -- if I had known all this going in, rather than learning as I went, I would’ve had a much better time of it, so I hope these help <3 But if you have any questions or thoughts, my DMs are seriously always open to you, on- or off-anon. You deserve help and support and I’m honored to be trusted <3

Get yourself on a routine. Tbh, half of the reason why things feel daunting (at least in my experience) is that they feel nebulous. To combat that vis a vis household tasks like cooking, cleaning and laundry, I’d recommend setting up a weekly or monthly schedule. Look at your class schedule and any other commitments and figure out which weekday is best for you to do laundry, which nights you could meal-prep for the days ahead, and which weeks you’ll be cleaning your areas of the apartment. Jotting those down or putting some notifications in your phone calendar will help you a) remember to do those things and b) rest in the knowledge that you’ve given yourself some structure. If you feel you’ll struggle with actually doing those things, ask a roommate to be your accountability partner! They live with you, so they likely have a vested interest in you doing those things, and will certainly be happy to help out!

Give yourself something to look forward to. Missing your family is so hard, so plan when your next trip home will be. Plan a movie night or another activity with your roommates (in my opinion, PowerPoint Night is an absolute winner -- y’all can take turns presenting about literally any topic you want and it’s a great way to get to know people and what they’re passionate about (or passionately against).) 

Get a tiiiiny bit social. It’s really hard with COVID, and I know it’s also anxiety-inducing to be The New Kid, but even something as simple as attending a Zoom event hosted by a campus organization can give you a little bit of social engagement -- if nothing else, you’re hearing voices outside of your own and your roommates’! There are also a lot of Discord servers out there for video game friends, students, fandom folks, pretty much anything; the platform offers a streaming function, which many people take advantage of and can be a great way to engage with other people around something you both love. Having that little bit of enrichment is really helpful and goes a long way in making you feel less isolated.

Do something with your hands. Find a tactile sort of hobby - drawing, painting, bullet journaling, digital art, collaging, etc. - and do it regularly. I bullet journal, make stickers, and collage the New York Times Sunday paper once a week. Doing something with your hands regularly is a good way to get your creative juices going and help the time go by, and it often is therapeutic as well.

Exercise regularly. I can’t tell you how helpful it is to get moving. It seriously is good for your mind and body, and you’ll feel motivated to do other things once you work out. I didn’t exercise for the first three months I lived alone and lemme tell you, when I started again, there was a marked difference in my mental health. Go for regular walks around the neighborhood, or if there’s space in your apartment to do some simple bodyweight workouts, the Nike Training app has great free guided workouts under 20 minutes. There are also workout videos free on YouTube, everything from strength training to cardio set to popular Tik Tok songs. I like to exercise about 30-45 minutes a day but YMMV

Treat yourself. I ran myself hard and ragged when I lived alone because I didn’t have anyone to encourage me to do otherwise. Even though you have roommates, it can still be easy to feel like you’re just ships passing in the night and that the accountability they provide extends to chores or other space-sharing ventures. So hold yourself accountable for doing one kind thing for yourself every day. Eat a piece of chocolate. Splurge on a coffee once a month. Buy a book you want to read. Do little things to treat yourself because you can, judgement-free! You’re your own boss now!

I hope these help a little bit!!! It can be really overwhelming and scary to be where you are but I promise, you are farther along than you think you are, simply because you can recognize and articulate these feelings and are reaching out for help. It all started when Tsuruno found the app in the app store. It’s not like she hadn’t heard about it before, she just didn’t really think about downloading it! The second it was done installing she opened it up, made an account, and was exposed to the magical world of TikTok.

The first video she saw was the animal TikToks. Sure, she thought that they were adorable, but how in the heck was she supposed to recreate them? That's when she skipped a few of them and saw someone slamming the oven and playing a… broom over some sort of hilarious audio.

That's when Tsuruno Yui came up with the idea of making TikToks. Enlisting the help of Iroha, Felicia, and Sana, she held one of Yachiyo's brooms in her hand and loudly proclaimed:

“I have to become the mightiest TikTok user!”

This prompted Yachiyo to turn her head and get out of her seat to scold Tsuruno. It took some convincing on Tsuruno's part, but after a ten minute explanation on why TikTok would be a fun time and good bonding experience for everyone, she finally had all the girls on board, her Master Yachiyo included (although quite begrudgingly).

Felicia volunteered herself to be the one to slam the oven door, Yachiyo agreed to film mostly so she could monitor Felicia, and Iroha and Sana were there for moral support.

Secretly, Yachiyo already had a bit of experience with TikTok herself, although she won't openly admit it. Maybe that's why it was so easy for her to navigate to the audio and start the timer?

The first time they tried to film it, Tsuruno nearly fell off the countertop onto the floor, though a combination of guts and Iroha keeping her steady did the trick. Felicia busted out laughing because of the expression the feisty girl had on her face during the recording, which caused even Sana and Yachiyo to giggle at Tsuruno's stupidity.

The second time, Tsuruno accidently let go of the broom and hit Felicia in the face, this time her laughter being the only thing resounding in the room as Yachiyo rolled her eyes and said if they didn't straighten up that she would stop filming.

Third time's the charm, right? Rather, it was the sheer intimidation of Yachiyo that made the creation of the girls' first TikTok successful. The kitchen didn't burn down, and Yachiyo only had to speak up once. Tsuruno considered this a victory in her journey of the mighty conquest of TikTok!

born to a lower class family in boston, ma, into the gunther name which were once great musicians back in austria. her father took this very seriously and so named her brothers after composers (johann and wolfgang) and herself after the siren of the rhine. 

he wanted very badly for them to be successful in music and in life, so lorrie had a lot of pressure from the outset. also, her parents went through a very messy divorce early in life.

she developed severe anxiety by the time she was in first grade, and was diagnosed selectively mute. the only people she would talk to for years were her brother wolfy, and her oma, who lived with them. 

did manage to get some treatment and eventually recovered, mostly thanks to her oma, who taught her how to express herself, mostly through music. 

her oma died two years later, when lorrie was thirteen. since then, she’s basically had a mental breakdown every three months at least. 

even then, she dedicated herself to her music, even though her father had long since given up on her. but johann, while diligent, proved not to have the passion required, while wolfy, who had the passion, refused to be diligent, and eventually left the family on bad terms. 

lorrie also, strangely, found some confidence in drama class; it was easier to be someone she wasn’t than the person she was. after her first time onstage without bursting into tears, her friends convinced her to try out for the school talent show, knowing she was a singer-songwriter. 

she managed to get through her audition, but at the actual show? she froze. she couldn’t stand to be herself in front of everyone. 

slowly, she realized she could be somebody else. a few months later during a sleepless night, the kind where she’d usually cut her hair or redecorate her entire room, she went to the local walmart and bought every glittery thing she could find. she wouldn’t sing as herself, she’d sing as someone else, even write as someone else.  

and when one of her classmates had a filmography project and wanted to do a music video, the fifteen year old lorrie offered her song. 

that video was called starr - “royals”, and within a few days of it being uploaded, it went viral. 

it wasn’t until a universal rep knocked on the gunthers’ door that lorries father even acknowledged her success. and acknowledge it, he did. 

lorrie hated how affectionate her father had become all of a sudden, but someone had to accompany her to los angeles to record her ep. 

she hated los angeles, not only for what it did to her father, but what it did to herself, too. starr was how she presented herself to the public, she became the crutch lorrie used to get through these schmoozing conversations. where lorrie was awkward and nervous, starr was graceful, mysterious, intriguing. 

also, drugs. way too many drugs. 

by the time her first album went platinum, she realized that her father was wasting her money on all kinds of things. they had a blowout fight one night and, even though she was only seventeen, she emancipated herself and locked her father out of all of the accounts. she also left la.

after her second album, she settled in hilton grove because it was quiet, far from california, and a place where nobody batted an eye at a famous figure, let alone a famous figure out of costume.
