soooooo I really really really enjoyed how much effort they put into making them like sad about their circumstances, the reality of it all, being a mutant and wanting to be accepted by humans,

Splinter not being a human to begin with but just a rat and quite frankly traumatized by humans all his life so very distrustful and doesn’t want his sons going through that or getting killed, and what tops the cake is that he actually tried to go out on his own with the tots, only to be instantly turned on, which just solidified the fear! even though he wasn’t just a rat anymore he was still cast out, still shunned!

but the turtles were too young to really remember that so they had endless hope, at least Mikey, Donnie, and Raph, kinda sorta Leo especially when April came onto the scene 🤭

WHICH SPEAKING OF THAT! Idk how I feel, super cute, Leo liking April instantly reminded me so much of 2k12 Donnie maybe a less intense version, all the scenes where romance was implied wasn’t so heavy (maybe slightly cringe) but still had me smiling so I guess I’m for it????? Still need to think on it more, overall my thoughts are : cute ✨ Leo was just being so cute 💀

THE BROTHERS WERE DRAGGING HIM OUT THO, like practically the whole first half of the movie, which is typical for tmnt, but gah damn 😂 it was so apparent when just Donnie, Mikey, and Raph would group up/link up, because Leo would constantly “rat” them out to the rat! Super different vibes from rise!leo for sure, that was kinda switched where Mikey was the one who couldn’t really lie… and it wasn’t about lying per say, just Leo being a pleaser? or a good kid? or wanting to do the right thing??? maybe that’s all the same thing as not wanting to lie 😂

anyhow, my favorite part had to be the very first fight scene the bros go into! Leo springing into action, being the one to propel his brothers into danger all because he wanted to help April (again so cute) get her scooter back! Technically their fault too! Anyhow they were getting whooped but also holding their own simultaneously, and just thinking quickly on their feet and helping each other out, it was all pretty intense and very stressful like where Mikey almost got run over twice 😨 I was like oml someone do SOMETHING!!!!! Thankfully we got big bro Raph, always coming in clutch! But yeah I just really enjoyed the first fight and them coming out on top! And right after being accepted by their first human aka April O’Neil!!!!!!!!! :D

It sounds so amazingly beautiful, shimming lights like glitter sitting up in a blackish blue abyss.

After the events of the movie, (you knew it was coming goddammit)

Your first request is to see the stars.

Which is pretty hard since New York is really bright like all the time.

So they took you and Casey to the docks where you would be able to see them best.

You looked up at the sky in absolute awe,

Papa's words would never do the stars justice.

After a minute, you broke down in tears.

It hurt, he promised to be the one to point out the constellations and his younger self doing it just wasn't the same.

Griefing is going to be a really big thing post movie.

In the future, you never really had the chance.

Everything happened so quickly and anytime wasted on griefing could have been a death sentence.

But now, you don't have to watch every corner, you don't have to wake up in fear you'll be alone.

So you grief.

You grief your family, and Casey does too.

Sure, technically they're right outside your room.

But it's not them.

They didn't raise you.

When Leo sends you and Casey back in time,

You took it much worse than Casey, who was focused on completeing the mission.

Sure, you wanted to stop the Kraang too,

But you missed your dad...

So when you find your family's past selves,

And Leo is being so...

Reckless,

You're angry.

Really angry.

Never in your life had your father acted this way, and Casey needlessly boosting his ego 30 seconds into knowing him wasn't helping.

Through out the movie, Casey needs to remind himself that this Leo isn't your Leo.

You have absolutely no trouble with that.

You come across as cold and angry, which worries your brother since you've never been like this before.

The others just assume you're always that way.

But you're not,

And acting like this makes you hate yourself.

You're grappling with the loss of your dad, and the fact that you might fail to do what you were sent here to in the first place.

Casey pulls you aside and gives you a talk.

He understands that your hurting,

He is too,

But this isn't about the two of you.

This is about saving the world and stopping the Kraang.

After that, you can hurt all you want.

That talk ended with you sobbing into Casey's shoulder, practically collapsing to the ground while you clinged to him and begged him not to leave you too.

Aight imma hit ya with the sandwich technique.

When you were a kid,

You had a habit of collecting anything shiny.

Old coins, jewelry, even just shiny rocks.

If it glimmered, you wanted it.

So whenever Leo had to leave the base, he always came back with something shiny for you to add to your hoarde.

He liked to compare you to a crow, and you asked what a crow was.

Right, raised in the apocolypse.

Sure there were plenty of birds around,

But they weren't.... normal.

So Leo explained what a crow was, and that they liked to collect shiny things.

You understood, but you wanted to know what one looked like,

So you went to Uncle Tello and asked if he could show you what a crow looks like.

He showed you, and immediatly you took to the comparison proudly.

You were like a crow!

Mikey liked to put on little shows for you and all the other children that lived in the base.

Making animals and such out of his ninpo.

Your favorite were the birds, the rabbits too.

But the best was the butterflies, which he also used to help you and Casey fall asleep.

They'd flutter around you room kinda like a nightlight.

I also like to imagine that when you and Casey start scouting, you get in trouble for fucking around.

Mostly making stupid bets for your shiny things.

Casey would collect shiny things just to make these bets.

Usually it was simple stuff, like who can throw a rock the farthest,

But even stuff like that could get both of you killed.

Neither of you really listened until one day,

You're making your bet like usual,

And the building you were scouting out wasn't as empty as you thought.

The two of you nearly fell to your deaths, luckily Casey managed to grapple the two of you to safety.

But after that, you had a major fear of heights, and Leo didn't let the two of you out of his sight for a while.

He made sure to scold the two of you when you returned that day,

Before hugging you and telling you how scared he was for a second.

Leo has no problem with you and Casey being included in meetings,

Honestly he prefers it.

If you two are gonna go running around scouting, you should know what's going on.

You'll have the occasional adult who thinks you and Casey are incompitent because of your age,

And that you shouldn't participate in meetings.

But Leo puts that to rest pretty quickly.

"If they can go out, and risk their lives on missions, they can attend the meetings." He'd say.

Leo loves you with his heart and soul.

If anything happened to you, he'd fall apart.

Sometimes he just needs you to have little sleepovers with him, that way he knows you're safe and sound.

He just wants to protect you.

You're his kid,

And he loves you

I reread this one every chapter update and every time I’m haunted by “the blueberry french toast paragraph” No I will not explain further, go read it.

MY TOP FIC RECOMMENDATION

Spider's Web with Strings Attached by CurlySwirly | 125,661 [ON-GOING]

Donnie and Leo get kidnapped and are forced to fight in the battle nexus. This is my pick for the most well written fanfic and most in canon characterization with ALL the characters. You will HEAR the characters not just through the dialogue but also through the writing itself. As the reader, you will be beaten down and have your heart crushed mercilessly which makes the pay off the most rewarding, satisfying experience that I've personally ever felt with a fanfic. This fic lives in my head rent free and I think about it at least once a day. It is my all time favorite rise fic and I highly recommend it.

just a lil thought I wanted to share: I imagine 2012 donnie looks rather similar to Rise Leo when in rise's style, just based off the similar face shape and body lanky-ness.

So imagine if somehow, 2012 Donnie gets trapped in the prison dimension. Like, maybe april is reassembling Donnie from the power inside her episode at the same time that Rise Mikey is closing the portal to the prison dimension, and he kind of gets flip-flopped in space, idk :T

Hes all "what? Huh? When?" And tries to find a way out, but there IS no way out. And he's trapped with a very angry looking Krang.

Well. I think Krang Prime would be absolutely confuzzled by his arrival. But then thoroughly ticked off for obvious reasons.

Not Donnie being resurrected for five minutes in some random goth space area that apparently has air (??) only to save a half-dead Leon from a deadly beating only to get it himself because Krang Prime will not allow anyone to come between his vengeance but HECK NAH is Donnie going to stand by and let this kid be beaten to death.

Yk those fanfics where Leon is actually in there for weeks before his brothers portal him out because time difference?

Biology Headcanons

They still have their original turtle eyes! We just cant see them because the art style lol

They're (canonically?) warm blooded

Reptiles take a lot longer to heal than mammals, which is a trait that carried over after the mutation. When they were little they would get a lot of infections (its hard wrangling 4 children under ten, Splinter had a hard time keeping every single cut clean). They own a lot of bandages (specifically fun cartoon band aids) because they have to wear them for much longer periods.

They! Make! Turtle! Sounds! And they picked up some rat sounds from Splinter! Splinter knows what all the turtle sounds mean, but never makes any himself. The first time April heard the turtle sounds she demanded they teach her. She cant make them exactly so she'll make a similar enough sound and they'll joke that she's just got a thick accent

Like most reptiles they will continue to grow throughout their lives! Thats why future!Leo was so big

They've eaten plenty of questionable things growing up. And still will if bribed with enough money. One of the reasons they love Run of the Mill so much is they serve Yokai food aka food with some gross stuff (ex. that pizza with eyes the twins ate when they took April)

Splinter has no idea how old they actually are. Neither does Draxum he didnt exactly care what day his subjects were hatched he just needed them to be juveniles. They were mutated 13 years ago so in reality they are all (mentally?) 13. Splinter needed to put someone in charge while he was gone and the reasoning was because "he's the oldest" because how do you argue with that? And then eventually the kids asked who the second oldest was and Splinter panicked and just went in height order. He randomly picked birthdays and accidentally made Leo 20 days older than Donnie

Splinter's DNA is the reason they're such good ninjas. Somehow. I dont see how thats genetic but yep thats the reason. They pick up moves really fast, so growing up on Lou Jitsu movies and having easy access to youtube allowed them to learn moves visually. Splinter also gave them all a crash course on fighting before he ever let them start going off on their own

Growing up

Splinter named them after colors! Growing up he had to color code everything to avoid "but its mine" disputes. It took him a while to figure that out so they actually didnt have names for that time.

April was the one who started the twin debate. At the time (she was idk 10?) she didnt understand how two siblings born in the same year could not be twins.

Raph and his duty of older brother is essential for the family, but the most substantial role is held by Donnie. Splinter is the father but Donnie is the true provider. Before Donnie got old enough to play around with fixing things the family lived a very different life. Donnie is the reason they have a tv, working kitchen appliances, clean water despite living in a sewer, electric lighting and heating. He's the only one who regularly brings money in and organizes things like online shipping or grocery delivery (thank you internet!). Donnie looks at something and sees something entirely out of the box, and then makes it a reality. Leo found the area that became the lair, but Donnie is the one who made those concrete tubes a functional home. And he did it all just to see if he could. Splinter didnt think he could do it, but it kept the boys entertained all day so he let them have at it. Splinter feels guilty so much has fallen on Donnie's shoulders over the years, but he is so grateful that Donnie turned out to be so smart

General

All the brothers are really smart, just in different capacities. Donnie prefers engineering and computer science but also picks up other science subjects fast. Leo's is harder to see, it manifests more in quick thinking, puzzles, and people skills. He's also really good at math. Mikey is good at seeing patterns, in both objects and relationships. Raph is in emotional intelligence, particularly internally.

When Cassandra said "my friends call me 'Casey'" she meant that only to Splinter, and the rest still had to earn the right to call her "Casey"

Raph and Casey (Sr) somehow become best friends. No one expected it.

Donnie has scars on his shell, but most of them are from minor everyday things and not true fights. Raph has the most scars due to his tendency to use himself as a shield to protect his brothers

Leo, Donnie, and Mikey all feel like they didnt earn their spot on the team. Leo because he feels he doesnt offer much (canon), Donnie because if he cant make tech he thinks hes useless (canon), and Mikey because he's the youngest and his brothers are therefore forced to include him (headcanon)

At one point Mikey tricked Splinter and Big Mama into going on a date

Draxum and Donnie got stuck in a situation that forced them to bond. They both pretend nothing has changed but it has

Not only does Leo come to Sr Hueso to complain about his life like Hueso's a bartender (canon), but so do all the brothers. Sr Hueso keeps reminding them he's not a therapist

Their s2 finale outfits (gif up top) become everyone's mission outfits

All the boys love the joey pouch (its basically a incubator and theyre reptiles). April finds it disgusting (its a very hot and tight space made of flaps of skin and you cant move without lots of effort)

At one point the boys all try to get jobs. Raph tries the Hidden City but gets run out by the police again. Mikey somehow talks Sr Hueso into giving him a job. Donnie attempts to work for Big Mama but in disguise. Leo somehow ends up helping Draxum out in the high school kitchen. None of them last the week. Raph doesnt make a day, Mikey gets into a argument with a chef on day four and quits "on principle", Donnie got discovered on day 2 but out of nostalgia's sake (being her exbf's son) Big Mama let him stay on but it got uncomfortable fast so he bailed also on day 4, Leo finds out he's outlasted all his brothers and goes in on day 5 solely to steal some ice cream bars and then told Draxum he quits when he was already on his way out

Theres a running joke that Piebald is always there but the boys keep forgetting about her. They dont know if her and dad are messing with them again or she actually was there and they just dont notice ("i mean... she can turn invisible. She could have been there")

Post-Movie

Casey Jr lives with them! April and Casey Sr are at college and living in dorms. Plus, he's not quite ready for full emersion into a society thats never had the apocalypse

Growing up Leo had become a father figure to Casey Jr, a person who could do no wrong. After the movie that illusion is clearly shattered, but he still looks up to Leo and the others. Leo has now taken a role closer to Big Brother (someone who can be flawed) than Parental Figure. Leo on the other hand has fully embraced being a role model for Casey Jr and has basically become Raph whenever Casey Jr is around

Casey Sr takes her job as Casey Jr's mom very seriously. She's not the same as future!Casey Sr, obviously, but Casey Jr enjoys spending time with her anyways. If anyone asks they say they're cousins and as a inside joke Casey Jr calls her "mom"

Casey Sr drilled proper etiquette into her son. The boys are working hard to break that ("Master Michelangelo-" "woah buddy, you can just call me 'Mikey'. 'Master Michelangelo' is way too long and too many syllables")

Raph's got scars from being krangified (from when it ripped into his body and from when he ripped it out of his body). He's got some vision problems in his right eye now

When Raph first met Y/n he was almost positive they wouldn’t interact very much or even at all. That she’d probably float more towards Donnie or even maybe Mike, whose out going nature was toxic.

But, you had proven him wrong. When meeting with the group it was always you who would place yourself more near him. Although quiet it was obvious that you had preferred his presence over any of them and when Raphael had finally brought this up to his brothers they put it simply.

“No offense, but You come off as shy all the time.” Leo dries the cup Mikey had handed him.

“What? No, I don’t. When have I ever acted shy?” 

Mikey pipes up, handing another dish to Leo. “Well man, you’re always sitting away from everyone. Your arms all crossed and quiet, I always assumed you maybe had a hard time talkin to people.”  Raph shakes his head, thinking back to every event they were invited to. How he isolated himself in hopes of making people back off from his presence. Is that something a shy person would do?

“Why are you so worried about it anyway?” Leo cuts him a look, a look that say he thinks he knows more than he lets on. The red terrapin rolls his eyes, deciding to let it go.

The next time everyone's together it's for movie night, a every now and then weekend tradition April was insistent they do. They had just finished dinner, gathering plates and prepping snacks for the movie. Raphael sits in his spot on the couch, listening to his family decide on what movie to watch as they cleaned the kitchen together. His eyes are shut but when the seat next to him sinks with new weight he opens them to see Y/n. She isn't facing him, instead staring straight ahead. Her features are relaxed like she was doing the same thing he just was. He sits there watching her for another second before he speaks up.

"So uuh, what kind of movies do you like?" He thinks for a second, that was a normal question right? Especially since they're about to watch one. She tilts her head towards him and hums and reverently, like she's trying to keep the peace they've created, speaks. "I don't know, I kinda have a knack for anything. What about you?"

"Same, mostly action though." He doesn't notice the way his voice lowers with hers. "Every now and then April will put some romance on, those are nice too." She hums again and nods. "Good to know." They're both quiet again and before Raph can open his mouth again his family floods into to living room. Mikey jumps to sit right between Y/n and him, preventing further conversation. He turns away, the image of her relaxed face still fresh in his memory.

They had already gotten used to each other at this point, having friendly conversation and this time when they speak to each other they're actually alone. She had been on the roof-top of her apartment when he had been on patrol. A blanket had been laid out with tubes of paint and worn paint brushes. Y/n hadn't noticed he was there, too immersed in capturing the scenery in front of her. He shifts his foot against the concrete to signal he was there but got no response. Cleared his throat even and she was still brushing over the canvas. He rolls his eyes, stepping to the edge of the blanket. "I didn't know you liked to paint."

Your head whips up, neck craning to see Raphael standing above you. "Raph! You scared me!" he huffs, biting his cheek to hide his smile. “Only because you’re so distracted. Should pay more attention, it’s dangerous out here.” You look down and in the light of the city Raph can see the way your face glows pink. Slowly he sits beside the blanket, cautious about disrupting your set up. “You’re uh, you’re really good though. Hell, Mikey only knows how to paint words.” You laugh and hands him one of the brushes, taking it, confused he raises his brow.

“How about you give it a try? I think you’d like it.” Over her painting? He tries to object but you tear the painting out of the book and set it aside to dry. Oh, that makes more sense. Better then letting him ruin it. He falters at the idea of ruining something, ruining this friendship.

“Raphael?” He blinks, focusing back on the small brush in his hand, back to the girl in front of him. “What?” You shake your head. “Nothing, just looks like you left me for a second... Anyways, as I was saying, you can paint whatever. Just don’t mix the paints.”

“Yeah, sounds easy enough”

It’s not even 5 minutes in when he knocks over a paint canister, it stains the blanket and he curses. “Shit, shit sorry! Hang on let me help.” He’s trying to pick the blanket up, to prevent it from spilling on the ground but doesn’t register the rest of the equipment. More paint is spilled and to his horror some splatters onto your clothes. It’s pure chaos and you jump up, grabbing your painting and the book, putting it out of reach. It looks perfectly fine and when you turn to make a joke you stop.

Raph stands among the blankets and paint, it covers his fore-arms and feet. His head is down and he’s sniffling. “Hey! hey, there’s nothing to be upset abo-” “I fucked up.” You slowly sit a paint covered hand on his shoulder. “I fucked up your paints, your blankets a mess and I got it on your clothes.” You look down, noticing the paint splattered on you and smile. You nudge him to turn and look at you, smearing purple on his shoulder.

“Listen Raph, the paint is washable. And I bought that blanket at a goodwill of all places, for this purpose. You didn’t mess up anything.” He still looks distant, losing himself in his anxiety. You look to your hand, mixed with purples, reds and greens.

“Boop!” A thick glob of paint is swiped across his snout, surprising him. “What?What are you doing?” “Boop!” another smear of paint on his pecs, he snorts and catches your hand. “What are you doing shorty?” “Trying to show you it’s not a big deal” Your left hand swiftly comes to wipe paint along his bicep, a thick pink streak. His shoulders shake with laughter, lifting his right hand, covered in a mixture of paint and pushing a hand print onto your cheek.

In a flash what was just playful smearing had turned into an all out paint war, globs of it had landed in your hair and his mask is coloured to the point of barely returning. It’s not long until you call a tie, out of breath you lean against him.

“Truce, you win! You win! No more” Your smile is so wide you can feel your cheeks ache. Looking up as he looks down you both end up nose to nose, your scent hidden by paint. Raphael takes a deep breath, lowering his voice. “Sorry for fucking up your paint again.” You shake your head and lean closer. “I told you it was fine, I’m having fun.” In the blink of an eye you step on your tip-toes, kissing one clean spot on his cheek. “I know I don’t act like it but I do like you Raph.” 

His eyes widen and he feels weightless, the kiss tingles his skin, embeds itself into his soul. Forming courage he leans down and presses a chaste kiss on your lips, slowly pulling back before he feels you tug him back down.

He didn’t ruin anything, far from it in fact.

anyway here's a pseudo intellectual analysis of the vision quest outfits because i'm normal

The vision quest is interesting to me because it's an instance of the turtles individuality, especially how that shows in the garments they made for themselves.

Raph

Raph deviates the most from the norm, even changing the shape of his mask which feels representative of his feelings of being outcast and wanting to go off to do his own thing.

Most notably, his outfit has a lot of elements akin to alt, adult, or rebellious images, like his belt now resembling a harness, fishnets and his neck being tied off like a choker. It makes for a compelling statement on his desire to be different, be self expressive and individual, to be seen as an adult who can make his own choices and doesn't need to be coddled.

I think this also shows in how he traded his sai, which are typically not very sharp and used for self defense (though offensive techniques can also used), for flaming shredder blades, which are definitely very dangerous for both whoever he's fighting and himself. The fact he used them without hurting himself implies practice, careful use. Wisdom, perhaps. Tempering the fire for power as Splinter said.

(did i mention i think his head reminds me of a snake with its tongue out. that's very important. he looks like a snake with More Teeth for fighting. absolutely lethal)

Also I will briefly mention the implied sensory experience that was what I wanted this to be about. He has significantly more fabric squeezing and covering him, scratchy fishnets on his arms, almost every part of his face is covered except his mouth. Suggesting a sensory profile that he may enjoy pressure stimming, perhaps that goes hand in hand with the fact he's more aggressive in his sparring and fighting. Something to think about.

Donnie

I'm going to talk about Mikey later but i think it's interesting they both chose to paint themselves and wear some kind of armor to protect themselves.

Donnie's design speaks to me as someone who has so much creative energy buzzing inside him but also wants to hide. He seemed to be the most sensitive about the fact they're mutants, often downtrodden about being told he could never be with April because they're freaks, and this combined with that he Knows he's going to get hurt results in the mask. (also maybe he likes casey and his stupid mask maybe he likes it a lot maybe they're kissing on the mouth idk)

The mask and the paint feel very creative expression,very artist form. The desire to build upon a metaphorical blank canvas to make something Different. Straight up covering his face with a skull-esque image. Changing himself from the monster he was to a creature he wants to be (human, casey, etc.

And his choice to change his bo for an axe feels ever reminiscent of the "I can't fight advanced alien technology with a 7 foot staff" statement. Although his bo staff does have a blade now, he wanted More Blade. Just blade. He's giving serial killer energy. Mad scientist energy, even. The axe requires strength that he needs, and we all know from the vizioso incident that he would kill people on sight and this axe reflects that.

Also, the sensory profile: Potentially implies enjoying covered, being in dim spaces, enjoying having a solid material on his face and tolerating the feeling of paint on his skin.

Leo

Leo's interesting because he's the only one who kept his original weapons, and arguably deviated the least from his normal design. I think this a good example of Leo's autism behavior and his desire to keep things the same, holding onto the comfort of familiarity rather than taking the risk to jump into exploration.

The most notable difference being the bow and the arm garments (the guard and the elbow wrappings, likely to protect his arms from strain and the bow whiplash). I love how Leo adopted the bow to compensate for his knee being crapped out, a logical choice to focus on long distance range but still keeping his swords Just In Case (and probably internally hoping he'd still be able to use them well)

It shows Leo's leadership qualities, knowing when it's time to make sacrifices, adapting to new situations, changing for the better, and at the same time, the fear of the unknown and wanting to stay the same.

The sensory: Unlike Raph and Donnie, Leo's hood is a cowl neck. gee that's so interesting oh golly i wonder if something happened that made him not want something near his neck gee i wonder why

Mikey

And now I talk about Mikey's armor and paint. While I definitely think Mikey would wear armor to help keep himself safe because he gets hunted a lot, it also radiates "oh man do you know what would look SICK" and "Learn to be strong and calm, like the forest" "okay sensei got it ! *covers himself in wood*"

He chose wood pieces that still have branches sticking off of them, and with the way he painted his face and. general mutant turtle vibes. he looks more like a Creetur, shrekish. Mikey embraces the strange, the unheard of, the monsters and repulsive. Not covering himself with things to hide his turtle nature, but adding More to that nature. (perhaps we could interpret the paint and wood as camoflague, better blending in to his surroundings, being a better ninja)

I'm also reminded of the armor worn by samurais. A bold goal if intended, considering Mikey's inattentive and distracted behaviorisms. But perhaps that is what he aims to become, a noble and admired warrior, making logical choices to protect himself and trying to be better, growing up into a responsible and capable man. Enamoured by his choice of weapon as well. Splinter had specifically given nunchaku to Mikey, which makes me think the kusarigama blade attachments were a modification He made, likely to prove something to himself or his brothers, wanting to do more, as nunchaku are typically given to those in training to develop quick hand movements and good posture.

And then he has eliminated the chain entirely to just have a sickle of sorts. Sickles were traditionally used for agriculture and the same could be said for the kusarigama, but now they appear to have an association with assassination, once again bringing back this idea of wanting to be more dangerous, be taken seriously and doing more damage.

When they first left the city properly Donnie was the one fronting for most of it cause the rest of them were either terrified or exhausted, because when they first left the city it was Not for a great reason suffice to say. Mikey was the closest by and would add in with a lot of stuff because although Donnie is rlly good as the Guy In The Chair internally on the ground work is not his strong suit. Most of the time when he's fronting Leo is there with him and that's true both pre and post discovery. Raph just kinda... watched. Didn't say much which is fair, because for the aforementioned Not Great reason he was fucking exhausted. -- before this they had left the city a few times during their early childhood running from Shredder, but that was before they were really Them and also before they could really process anything. Didn't even register cities just buildings, some tall, some short, some none at all.

Pizza is their all time favorite food and pretty much the only thing they can all eat comfortably ^_^ helps that none of them really has a preference as long as they can shove a slice of it in their mouth, but if they had to choose favorites Leo would go with sausage, Raph likes sausage but with barbecue sauce lumped on top, Donnie just goes with cheese and sometimes cauliflower if he's fronting for a while (no one else like cauliflower), and Mikey just shoves whatever the fuck he can on it (within reason) and then dumps just POUNDS of parmesean on top of it. "Would you like some pizza with that cheese?" Is one of Splinter's top ten phrases of all time. Tbf if Mikey is in The Mood the most he can deal with is just plain cheese as well (The Mood is depression but he doesn't recognize that.)

They don't tell most of their villains abt being a system, and Raph punches their faces in regardless. Do yknow how much of a disadvantage it would be for their enemies to know that? Not only do they have a dissociative disorder but Also PTSD. they got a hard enough time as is but goddamn. Sometimes it's hard to hide, like when Raph is very visibly arguing with someone who isn't there. The specifically observant villains are able to guess, but half of them think it's demon possession and/or a kid whose gone crazy which is fair. I am messing around with a Shredder finds out from Karai plot in my head tho and it seems fun.

They knew April pre-system discovery so she was the second person they told after their dad. They waited a bit to tell Casey, mostly to see when April could give the go ahead that he was chill. It actually went down a lot weirder than that - what ended up happening was Casey started living with them before Ronin told him so it became this whole thing where he was part of the family but like hm. He doesn't really know he has 5 siblings not 2 so they should... they should probably tell him that. The same thing went down with Karai but that was a much more.. Situation of a Situation.

If they had time for fashion they would but they unfortunately don't, but if I had to guess Mikey would be really into Japanese street fashion, Raph would dress like a butch, Leo would be a huge retro fashion guy, and Donnie loves some casual techwear.

GitS Asks!

Considering in 2003, Donatello was stung because he was protecting Raphael? Yes, Ghost would still be mutated even with Phantom there. I feel like with both Phantom and Ghost around, the kids probably figured it out a lot quicker. They still call each other "Raph/Raphie" and "Don/Donny" without thinking about it, and that's just too many coincidences.

Spirit doesn't hover over them like Ghost does. I mean, he does, but he stays secret for much longer than Ghost does. He's more of the turtles' secret sensei.

Spoilers! From now on I'm not gonna be answering asks that ask for direct spoilers. If you're not sure, go ahead and ask anyway, but if you don't see it, that means it was too spoilery!

(puts this in the GitS asks anyway) IDK RISE SPLINTER ALSO SEEMS FINE GALAVANTING AROUND MOSTLY NAKED??? At least he wears underpants.

Personally I have the headcanon (and thus in GitS) Splinter tried to get them to wear clothes but they kept pulling them off, so Splinter gave up. It's like trying to keep four cats in a basket.

SAINW would happen differently, I think, but I truly believe that SAINW happened because they were too busy looking for their brother when Shredder took off using the rocket. I believe that 03 Don seeing SAINW warned him to look deeper into what Shredder was doing, and therefore he found the rocket that they boarded during Exodus. It was the only way he would be convinced to kill his own family in order to stop that apocalypse world from happening.

So basically, yes, the apocalypse world still happens, just in different ways.

Losing Donny means they have no access to technology as good as they used to. Remember, at 15 Donatello could hold his own against Baxter Stockman, a genius adult man. The turtles have April, and she's very good, but she's also an adult woman and Donatello WAS 15. Don's mediator personality also helps. Mikey couldn't keep that up.

Losing Leo means they have no leader. Raph probably steps up, but he's reckless, he doesn't know how to think right, he doesn't trust himself to be leader. He makes mistakes. He has to learn from them. They all miss Leo.

Mikey going missing I think has the biggest impact on them. He makes jokes during dark times, keeps their spirit up, cheers them up all the time, always looking to make them laugh. They lost their sunshine and they're plunged into darkness. They don't hold back as much. Donnie's mellowness doesn't balance out Raph's rage or Leo's depression.

Losing Raph hits them all very hard. He's their protector. He takes the heavy hits. Leo trusts Raph to have his back more than anyone else. Raph second-guesses him when he believes he's wrong, makes Leo think more critically. I think Leo starts getting too caught up in his own head. He starts taking on some of Raph's traits. He gets overprotect of his family, he gets angry easier. He's so tired.

Some things are ingrained.

Splinter dismisses his own emotions and tries to bury them deep and never take them seriously, so he does the same with his own boys. It helped him, right? So they would okay, right??? Ghost is the opposite. He's the one that bottles up his emotions and hates himself for it, so he tried to teach his kids how not to be like that.

Michelangelo was quiet as he ate his peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Though it was more peanut butter than jelly. Which really may have been even more disturbing than the silence. Who in their right mind liked the way it got stuck in the roof of their mouth?

“…”

You munched on your own sandwich. A proportionate amount of pb and j on either bread slice. After swallowing you decided to speak up.

“What?”

His response was immediate after a blink or two.

“I didn’t say anything!”

“Yeah but I know you’ve got something to say,”

He goes back to that odd quietness again. His fingers squeezing onto the sandwich too tightly. Peanut butter getting all over his hands. Well. Even more so than before. Truthfully he had been sticking his fingers in the jar to eat it raw earlier.

“…it’s weird.”

A teasing tone came from your voice as you nudged your shoulder with his.

“Can’t be weirder than eating peanut butter with your fingers.”

“Hey!” An offended lilt heard from Mikey. But it couldn’t be helped!

“Just kidding..” “Mostly..” You offered as a compromise. His head tilted from side to side, seeming to let it go in favor of the initial conversation.

“Well, I was just thinking about how we’re all gonna die one day.” Now you hadn’t been expecting that. Not at all. Mikey had his weird quips. But this was darker than most! You wondered if his favorite pizza place had been demolished again offhandedly before saying the first word that came to your mind.

“Oh?” But it didn’t stop there!

“And that, I’d just hope you’d be around when it happens for me.”

Now that was just too much. It was sad. It was sweet. It was all wrapped up in emotions that had you looking Mikey in the eyes, pb fingers and all and giving him a small smile.

“Damn..” Again you were at a lack of words here. You wished you could say more. In fact you should’ve just said, ‘same’ or ‘me too Mikey’ or anything other than something so meaningless.

“Yeah, weird right?” He didn’t seem put off by your lack of response. His eyes had met yours, returning the smile before looking back down at his food. Taking another bite.

“A little, but not the strangest thing ever.” Which was true. You had to endure Leo after all. And he said random shit all the time. Though not as philosophical. Maybe Donnie would be closer to this category.

“Also!” Mikey spoke up around his bite.

“Oh there’s more?” You pop the last bite into your mouth. Dusting off the crumbs on your fingers on the paper plate below. Reaching for the bottle of water that had sat untouched since the two of you had sat down for the midnight snack.

It was far from anything you had ever seen, much like the turtle himself. Entrancing.

And you were caught red handed as you sheepishly tried to play it off, listing the words you did catch with a bit of embarrassment. “Well that just won’t do, listen close okay?” Mikey said and his hands went up as if to cup your face, but he still had peanut butter covering them so instead you held onto his wrists, nodding in confirmation.

“Do you realize that you have the most beautiful smile? The one when your especially happy?” You squeezed his wrists, giving him a rueful expression. Was he being serious? Of course he was! He was smiling at your bashfulness, but nothing in his stare said he was playing you. “Thanks for enlightening me,” you say, though the blush can’t be helped.

“Your welcome!” And he had the audacity to wink as he took one peanut butter covered finger and stuck it in his mouth. You blinked. How could he go from borderline flirting to— to?!? Whatever he was doing now??? Eating obliviously?? It was times like these where you wondered. The lower half of your face hidden behind a hand pressed against your mouth. Trying to cover that embarrassingly bright blush. You wondered if Mikey actually did know what he was doing, and he was just a damn good actor at pretending not to know.

As you recomposed yourself, lost in thoughts like those. You didn’t pay any mind to Mikey turning slightly to the side and winking at no one in particular.

Imagine this: the 2012 boys somehow find themselves in the Rise universe. At first, they're almost blinded by how bright everything is (they'll get used to it), so they go to the sewers. It isn't much, but it's better than being out there in the sun.

So, they try to find the place where the Rise gang lives. At first they search through the sewers, but since they're not there (new Lair baby) they go to the subway tunnels (Donatello does something and finds the place where their own Lair is but in the other universe or something idk). They find this weird, bright, different version of themselves. At first, of course, the Rise guys are like “what the FUCK”, but when they realize they're not a threat or anything they start to talk and blablabla.

The Mikeys would get along almost immediately. They'd probably draw together (even if Angelo draws better than Michaelangelo, he's still really good, so he's not sad or anything about it), and Angelo would have to teach Michelangelo how to cook after watching him try to make some kind of pizza smoothie? Like what's that. Angelo would teach Michaelangelo about Doctor Feelings, resulting on a scene where he says that he wants to try something Angeli taught him and, surprising everyone (who thought he was soft and shit), flips everyone off. Also, Doctor Feelings! And Angelo meeting Ice Cream Kitty.

At first, Raphael would be pretty weirded out by his younger (and bigger) counterpart. He's way too much of a softie, and he doesn't really think they'd get along. Well, Raph would probably notice it from the start, and he'd try to get him to talk to him while at the same time respecting his space. After a while, they'd realize how much they have in common, and Raphael would show how much of a softie he also is when he sees the amount of plushies Raph has. He's 100% jealous of that.

The Donnies would be really awkward when interacting with eachother. With Don's super advanced (and unrealistic) tech and Donatello's not so advanced (and more realistic)'s, their technology conversations would be kind of weird. That is, of course, until Donatello tells Don about the alien technology they have (at first he's like “oh fuck no the KRANG?” but then he'd be like “hey that's actually pretty cool”). He'd ramble about it and encourage Don to talk about the mystic thing. Then they'd try to find a way to combine them. The chaos...

And finally, THE LEOS!!! Leonardo wouldn't like Leon at first. Leon is so different from him it would be impossible to tell they're the same person were it not for the blue and the name. Leon wouldn't like Leonardo either. I feel like he'd be jealous about how good he is at leading and how his team listens to him everytime he talks (HC that he doesn't talk much because of his throat). Doctor Feelings would notice that and, with the help of Doctor Delicate Touch, they'd lock them in a room and force them to sort out their issues. Then, Leon finds that Leonardo is actually kind of jealous of him too because of how cheery he seems to be, and he even gets Leonardo to help him with leading, so hey! New ally! They'd ramble about Jupiter Jim and Space Heroes 24/7. Probably using sign language if Leonardo's throat hurts too much.

In the spin off in the leo kid au teenaged leo was warped to the time when they were kids so when leo does something with the turtle tots does that effect the future or does it just create another time branch?

Hmmm well, since Leo's powers aren't the same in the spinoff comic ( I think maybe for the spinoff comic its more of a ' he opened a mini time portal and transported himself there ' kinda thing than a ' de-aged thing' ) I think it would effect the future!

For the spinoff comic, if it continued until Leo was back in his correct time, things probably would be a little different. Actually, I think Leo would just - be different himself. I think rather than it branching off, it changes the future entirely. Donnie promising to protect Leo would have Donnie figuring out what Leo was going to do. Leo would still have inevitably lost the key, but this time Donnie knows what Leo is planning and acts accordingly.

So timey-dtuff, Leo would be different in the spinoff comics than the Leo that first appeared there. If that makes sense. Instead of branching off it'd just change the future, but he would still end up in toddler time because Mikey would still open the portal - just this time he would be getting Donnie cause Donnie would have jumped in to change Leo's trajectory or smthn idk

I think he doesn't develop feelings easily ( infact it's kinda hard for him to, not in a bad way )but one time there was a yokai, about his size, and they really enjoyed each other

He didn't tell anyone but he got her number and they still talk and he might have small feelings for her

The reason he hates being alone because it's a PTSD thing ( that only got worse after the kraang thing )

( he was alone and in danger for most of the movie, the only reason he wasn't freaking out because he knew if he did he was fucked )

And he got possessed before he could even lose his shit

But basically I think he got kidnapped by a hunter and held him captive ( either chained, or in a cage ) for 2 days before splinter found him

( yes they searched for him for 2 days )

The hunter would shoot his gun next to the cage ( or restraints ) he was in to purposely mess with him

And if he cried he would get in his face and start yelling until raph forced himself to stop crying because of fear

It was traumatic

Splinter has his own trauma from losing his fucking kid for 2 days, but it still fucks with raph badly

He still remembers it so vividly that it feels like it had only happened a week ago

So add that in top of the kraang doing what they did to him.....

He was only holding it together for Leo tbh

He can't go to certain areas or he'll start to hear the hunter yelling in his face again, like a hallucination

It's gotten a little bit better over time but the kraang set him so far back

He was also already claustrophobic, but if anyone tries to hold him down now he just immediately throws them off

And hard

Anything that really reminds him too much of the past he just starts freaking out

So he doesn't like to be alone :)
