As a commissioner, I love seeing how artists interpret and stylize my characters, but as an artist, I often agonize over if I should try to match the style of the provided reference or lean into my own style.

#flame polls #sometimes people specifically say which style they want which is super helpful #sometimes people don't know which is when i usually stick closer to the reference style. idk if that's for the best tho. like-#im being commissioned because they like how i draw right? so i should draw in the way i usually do? but that doesn't always seem to #be the case idk #i don't wanna bash people for having preferences tho. this isn't meant to be judgemental one way or the other #i was just contemplating how i approach various commissions depending on how the client asks for what they want #and also because im doing some design exploration right now so i'm pushing at certain aspects of my style. makes me think!

it’s been quite a year-

I’ve been saying this every year but this year I’ve grown so much and that all thanks to the amazing people I’ve gotten to know and inspired me on tumblr I definitely wouldn’t have improved this much otherwise

All the people on here are so kind and so so talented and have truly inspired and pushed me to grow in my art even with this super busy and challenging year.

The best feeling in the world is when there’s a piece of media you know you love and you’ve hyped it up as your favorite thing for so long but you haven’t revisited it in a while so you start to worry if it’s really as good as you make it out to be and so you go back and revisit it and it’s like. Oh this is even better than I remembered this shit rules

#the klock keeps ticking #i always get this feeling when i play 999 but tonight i got it with the letter #cuz ive uh finally decided to bite the bullet and play the evil meanie route where everyone dies 😟#a route ive put off for so long cuz its just too damn sad to think about akjdksk god it hurts #and ive played like for the most part every route of this game EXCEPT this one but i know the ending is really dark and i need to see it #plus i will at least get my beloved torture scene in so thats nice #i didnt kill off isabella though its a coma route which i hope still allows me to get the ending i want cuz i mean shell still be out of #commission in the final scene so hopefully it works out #but yeah no i started off tonight on the marianne chapter and while i did skip around through it cuz ive played it many times and i just #wanna get to the important stuff already alskj i also just replayed some of the best parts #aka the shit where lorraine appears and the gay shit alksks and god like hnnnghh not only does this chapter still ruin me emotionally #i also just remembered why i love this character so much and remembered just how good the character writing in this game is #and i also played into the rebecca chapter and didnt skip as much cuz i actually am not as familiar with the coma route #cuz it makes me sad and i never revisited it lol and i havent gotten to The Scene that makes me sob yet #its so coming though dont worry but idk i guess its just been cuz ive been thinking about p3 so much lately #and in particular shinji both the death route and coma route but in particular the coma cuz thats what im writing #and damn lol the letter just writes the grief and nuanced relationships and death stuff so much better lol god #like marianne loses her childhood best friend whom she has a gay ass relationship with to suicide and like its just better #she blames herself and still isnt even kinda okay with it after 13 years #like it just fucking ruined her and the only thing keeping her from losing it is her repression and drinking problem and unattached sex #and then with coma route well fucking first off isabellas friends actually like. visit her frequently damn #and they just all have such unique ways of coping like Zach is being optimistic so no one gets too upset #rebecca is sorta in charge of making sure everything goes smoothly she has to contact the family and make big decisions #and shes also just taking the most stress and shes got so many complicated feelings around isabella going on but she genuinely cannot stand #that isabella is hurt shes fucking destroyed she loves isabella and then ashton AAAAA god yeah i also just remembered that hes SUCH a good #character hes like being a genuine asshole right like Rebecca calls to tell him that isabella is comatose now and he literally doesnt let #her say anything he literally says ‘i dont have time for other things rn’ like the wellness of his friend is just ‘other things’#but you just know thats not it not at all hes burying himself in work to the point of destruction so he can figure out who did this and make #everything okay and he refuses to show even an ounce of vulnerability cuz THE SECOND HE DOES IT ALL COMES OUT AND HE CANT GET OUT OF BED #ANYMORE CUZ HOW IS HE SUPPOSED TO BE OKAY WHEN THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE IS DYING

I had a conversation with my mom about commissions--she’s of the opinion that you shouldn’t have to wait super long to get what you paid for. I’m the opposite; I think artists should be able to take as long as they need to finish a commission, and I’m totally cool with waiting for months even for them to get back to me. Surprisingly enough I’m very patient when it comes to commissioning other people lol. Maybe I just think that way bc I’m an artist myself so I totally get the struggle. (And I also take time with my comms too.) My mom is not an artist so she doesn’t really grasp the amount of time and effort it takes, so she expects results immediately. Which like. I get that too? I dunno. What do you all think? Are you the kind of patient person who’s totally chill with an artist taking months to finish your commission? Or do you want it to be done within a reasonable amount of time, like 2-3 weeks?

#IDK she said that and now I'm stressing about it. LMAO #I put it in my TOS that yeah it'll take me a bit. Bc well. Real life happens #And sometimes it's hard to sit down and pump out art you know?#But some people don't understand that. Some people want what they paid for right away #WHICH IS FAIR. I'm not saying that's unreasonable #Scratches my head idk my anxiety's already high today so I'm worrying about this too now. Nfamkdasmdsa #Anyway to all my commissioners who have waited months for me to finish theirs: You have the patience of a saint.#And I appreciate you so so so much.#Especially to that one person who's waited for SO long now. I swear to god I'm going to finish it this week #There's definitely a line to be drawn with how long people are willing to wait #AND SAD AS IT IS TO SAY. I've crossed that line before.#Keeping a consistent schedule with life and art for fun and commissions is difficult for sure 😤#IT'S A BALANCE. It's really a balance!#Shima speaks #Actually the biggest thing for me. Is I want to put the effort in #I don't want to half ass it. I want it to look GOOD #So I never try to force myself to do comms. Bc that's not fair to me or the person who commissioned #They deserve my best effort and my best work!!#The issue is that I'm not always in that headspace to tackle comms and put in the work that's needed #IT'S FRUSTRATING.....but I'd rather make people wait for something I put time and effort into #Rather than something half-assed. Thinking about setting up to start doing art commissions but the whole thing seems very daunting

I don't know how much to price things, like I have an idea of what kind of categories people generally list on commission sheets I just don't know how much I should be pricing things at

I have an idea for a sheet layout I just have to make it and figure out prices

I also don't even know how best to go about advertising that I do art and if anyone would even want art from me

I also am nervous about the whole thing in general but I want (and kind of need to) start offering to make art for others

So if anyone has advice or suggestions I would love to hear it

#looking for advice #art commission help #i said i need to because i want to get enough money saved up to buy a new car in a couple weeks since ive been without a car for about 2yrs #and i am currently working full time but it is not enough to have the amount necessary if i want to get this done in less than 3 weeks #and to also live and pay bills and rent at the same time #ive done what i can already with selling a decent chunk of my mtg collection tho i might see if there is anything left i can part with #trying not to sell off anything im actually attached to but idk the collection has been picked thru pretry thoroughly #but yeah if i get commissions figured out they could really just help me out in general going forward #getting my car situation figured out is just my current goal that I'd like to get done before mid october due to an event that would-#-be best if i had my own car that is good and functional #so yeah if anyone has advice please let me hear it i don't know how best to go about pricing or obtaining people interested in commissioning #-art from me

I am not in a dire financial situation at the moment but I do need some form of independence and something to keep me busy so I am currently wondering if I could open writing commissions

#there are a few problems with this though #like i’m worried my writing isn’t good enough to justify commissions #and i’d be limited in the fandoms i could write for #biggest of all though i couldn’t do it without my parents knowing and idk what they would say about it #but being neurodivergent with no college degree and barely any job experience makes finding a decent job nearly impossible #so this is really my best option because going to college is too big a risk in many ways #any input would be appreciated

#feeling like the only one in any of my groups that has been consistently drawing the past few years with little to no change #awled rens vents #I've always had- issues about the fact it seemed my art style was uniquely unwanted or something #I think I've had all of like- 10-15 commissions in my whole online career #and a solid chunk of them have been out of pity of some kind #I've always felt like I put in more effort towards lifting other people's work then people put into mine #and there's been periods where it felt like any complements I've gotten have been less detailed and just there to be polite #I've watched all my friends have these massive dynamic shifts meanwhile I pick out a peice from 2020 and a peice from this year-#and it barely looks at all different #even the shit I'm proudest of some of the time #it's not even maybe I'm bad and everyone's to nice to say it anymore it's entirely #maybe my arts just got nothing to be said about it #maybe the reason I'm struggling so much to be even noticed is there's nothing to notice #idk man I'm just having a Time and Circumstances aren't helping at all #best I can describe it is feeling like I'm being left behind in some way compared to my peers #then again #what else is new?
