the thing about mightourge is that ive never seen a single piece of content for that ship that doesnt make one or both of them wildly out of character. its always making scourge into this like. uwu soft boy who just needs someone to love him and then he'll become good. even though hes evil he sucks the whole idea behind his creation was just sonic but if he was an asshole. and mighty is a nice guy who doesnt particularly like needless violence but they always make him go "i can fix him <3333" over scourge. even though he is Like That. if we're going by their canon personalities mighty probably wouldnt be romantically interested in scourge at all. it feels like a ship that was invented for people who never actually read archie sonic and just like the version of scourge that exists in their head that they got from fanart and fanfiction. idk how to explain my thoughts properly but hopefully people will understand

Also, I feel like there are different versions of competency and stupidity. Street smarts vs social obliviousness. Book smarts vs functionally illiterate. Strategic/battle smarts vs what-do-you-mean-flashing-the-enemy-isn't-a-valid-distraction?

I could imagine Luffy would be attracted to hyper specific competency. If you're really into a specific thing and good at it and it's your dream he would absolutely love it even if it sounds like you're speaking gibberish to him. He wouldn't even think of it as weird - I mean, no more weird than any other dream he doesn't personally understand - he's certainly not the type to judge based on societal norms. You could talk his ear off about the reproductive habits of different animals and he wouldn't get why everyone else doesn't like to hear it when they're eating but hey more food for him.

Synopsis: They can't help what attracted them to you. No matter what you did, they simply couldn't get enough of you. Their emotions finally catch up with them, and they confess their adoration for you.

Notes: I wasn't expecting to write this today, but I've been thinking about the big boys lately and I needed to give them some love. Something about trios lately.

Competency: Eustass Kid

When Eustass Kid noticed how quick and sharp you were to react in life or death circumstances, he was immediately smitten with you. Being a Straw-Hat, your ambitions and dreams were fostered by your playful captain as you sailed aboard the Thousand Sunny. Your ability to interact flawlessly by balancing the combined efforts of the three crews had him intrigued by your charisma. 

Fighting by your side was something he didn’t expect to affect him so much. The way you researched the strengths and weaknesses of all three crews sailing and fighting together was admirable. Asserting yourself by asking Law to push and pull you closer to the fight with the Ope-Ope no Mi ability, while fighting side-by-side with Massacre Soldier Killer in close quarters, had him left wordless.

After the battle finishes, he watched as you hastily aided your crew of their injuries while disregarding your own; putting others first while adding pressure to your hand-gash, hovering it over your head to slow the bleeding. He couldn’t get enough of you. 

He needed you to know how he felt about you, but being in the presence of Luffy and Law always seemed to bring out the more juvenile side of attitude. His simple attraction and infatuation with you had to be revealed to you in due time, but he couldn’t risk sounding like an idiot in front of you. He would have to simply wait until you were alone and unoccupied before he made his move to take care of you after taking care of others. 

Slowly approaching you as you sat down against the tangerine grove aboard the Thousand Sunny, his shadow shrouded your form and prompted you to gaze up into his scarred, sheepish face. Your smile caused his heart to beat harder and his head to swirl with a variety of "what-ifs". Gulping back his insecurities, he knelt down in front of you.

“Let me take care of that for you,” he offered with a soft smirk, “You’ve done so much for others, and I think your hand needs some seeing to.” 

“If you say so, Captain Kid,” you shrug, offering your injured hand delicately to him and listening to his every instruction as he treats you, “I wasn’t aware you had any medical training.” He straps your hand in a bandage, placing down the final ties before holding your injured hand in his.

“I don’t,” he shrugged with a smile atop his painted lips, “But I’ve lost an arm before, and I don’t want to see that happen to you.” 

“You’re-...” he stuttered over his words, gazing at your hand before softly drifting his tired eyes up, “...-You amaze me. Truly, amaze me.” You place your other hand on his, never once removing your eyes from his face as he offers you such kindness. 

“Thank you, sir,” you nod to him with a soft smile, “You amaze me, too.”

Stupidity: Roronoa Zoro

“Why would you do that?” Zoro roared at you, hovering his body over yours and caging your face-down body within a shield of his own. The gashes on your back were deep, your body weeping out the red essence and staining your clothes with it.

“C-Couldn’t risk yours,” you stuttered out with a soft smile, “H’was gonna g-get yours. Didn’t want you to wear the shame.” His eyes widened, filling with a steam of glossy tears that threatened to spill over the moment you stuttered out your confession. “That’s what you said, wasn’t it? Mark on the back is a swordsman’s greatest shame?” 

Drip. 

Drip.

Drip.

One after one, soft tears spilt down his cheeks and mixed with the fluids pooling at your back. He leaned down towards you, the heat of battle dying down with the swift, flaming kick of the blonde cook and giggling chuckles of your captain, Luffy. 

“You’re a fucking idiot,” he sniffed his sobs back as he leaned down to cage you, “Can’t you see? None of that fucking matters without you here.” He softly, tenderly moved you from your position on the floor to not disturb your wounds. He sat you up, cradling you against his broad chest and openly sobbed for you. 

“When you get better,” he growled into your shoulder, “I will repay you for this. I will pay my debt to you.” His sobs got more desperate, not halting in the slightest when Trafalgar D Water-Law approached the two of you in your embrace. 

“Let me get ‘em to the infirmary,” Law offered, gesturing for Bepo to ready the aid kit, “I’ll treat the wounds there-.” 

“-I won’t leave them,” Zoro barked over your shoulder, your soft smile tugging at your cheeks in your hazy daze. “Let me go with you, Traffy. I won’t say a damn word to distract you, on my honor.” Law nods, raising his hand and spreading his fingers and offers the two words to switch positions within the infirmary: “Room, Shambles.” 

As you drifted in and out of consciousness, you laughed each time Zoro chastised you for your stupidity. Echos of: “There were so many other things you could’ve done instead,” and “You stumbled into that blade like a moron and took that hit for me, idiot.” You giggled through the pain, barely feeling it as Law worked to stitch you together again. 

Upon regaining consciousness, you looked to your moss-haired crewmate and offered out your hand to his bicep. His head was bowed, arms crossed over his chest, and was assumed to be napping by your bedside. Feeling your touch, he was roused from his sleep and immediately leaned forward to bring his face beside yours. 

“You’re a fucking moron,” he huffed, smiling in a melancholy grin. You laughed at his insult, squeezing his muscle before retracting your hand. As you nearly drew it away to your side, he caught your hand and brought your palm up to his lips. 

“My fucking moron,” he confirmed, placing a soft kiss to your palm before using it to cup his face. “I love you.”

Duality: Massacre Soldier Killer

Staring up into your face while remaining silent, resting his masked face on the heel of his palm, he listened to your recount of a very specific childhood injury that left you with an interesting scar on your thigh. Killer’s eyes never left your face, his cheeks beginning to glow warm and vibrant beneath the shroud of his mask.

“So, let me get this straight,” Captain Eustass Kid held his hand in front of his face and gave it a gentle wave to halt your words, “That sick-looking scar wasn’t from any time you served with Luffy, but because you set off a fucking harpoon and speared yourself in the leg with it?” 

Killer felt himself swoon at the melody your laugh thrust into the atmosphere. He was ever thankful his blue and white mask disguised how much he was smiling beneath the shroud. 

“Yep,” you popped the ‘P’ afterwards, nodding in confirmation as you sat beside Usopp and drew your tankard up to your lips, “But I learnt from it, and it hasn’t happened since.” Killer sighed, his voice almost coming out in a soft moan to reveal his growing infatuation for you. Kid barked out a harsh gaggle of laughter, clapping you on the shoulder with his right hand and gestured for you to reveal it to them.

“Let me see it again, go on,” he chuckled, removing his hand and sitting back on his seat, “Use Killer’s thigh as a prop so we can see it properly. You don’t mind do you, big guy?” Killer absentmindedly and slowly shook his head, tapping his thigh twice with his hand for you to reveal your injury to the captain of the Victoria Punk, himself and your crewmate beside you. 

“Alright,” you shrugged, standing beside Usopp and Killer and gently placed your foot atop Killer’s thigh and began hiking up your shorts to your hip, “Feast your eyes, Captain.” Sure enough, an interesting looking scar was revealed on your inner thigh, clear as day and sure as the sea is salty. 

“Oh, fucking hells!” Kid gave you a hearty laugh, “You seeing this, big guy?” Kid turned his attention to his first mate, his smile only growing as he noticed the angle of Killer’s mask never left your face. Surprise was immediately thrust into Kid’s eyes, noticing the unwavering resolve in Killer’s posture. 

You turned your attention down to the silent and broody first-mate, your face puzzled and eyes searching his mask for any further thought or action. He slowly drew his hands up to clasp around your ankle and calf, holding it firmly as he leaned forward. 

“You’re perfect,” he offered in a breathy whisper, stroking your leg and gazing lovingly into your face, “Don’t let anyone ever tell you otherwise.” 

Your face flushed with a warmth at his words, eyes widening and looking down at his large hands as they held you so tenderly and delicately within his grasp. Smiling, you leaned forwards and placed your hand over his scarred left forearm with mischief in your eyes, asking him a simple question with a suggestive tone. 

“Like what you see then, big guy?” At your question, Usopp nearly choked on his drink. You had never been this bold before, and this came as a shock to your crew’s skilled sniper. He covered his choking with a soft cough, turning away with a downturned smile and stifling his growing laugh. 

“So much,” Killer confirmed, gently caressing your calf and looking up at you through half-hooded blonde lashes beneath his mask, “So, so much.”

Reasons why YOU should ship Bolin and Wei Beifong:

1.Gay🏳️‍🌈

The Avatar universe has a lot of WLW characters, but not many MLM ones. And having another member of team avatar be comfirmed as queer is always a good thing (they're all canonicaly queer in my heart tho).

Also having Bolin be queer adds a lot of interesting dimension to the character, eapecially to his previous interactions with female love interests. I've always headcanoned Bolin as very comphet. Discovering you're queer is something I wish were more explored with Korrasami, but Bolin 'i have a new heterosexual love interest nearly every season' would also be an imteresting character to follow through that process. Feel like it would give him an existential crisis and I want to see that bisexual disaster happen.

Especially if contrasted by Wei, who comes from the very liberal Zaofu. Look me in the eyes and tell me Su doesn't support gay rights. Zaofu is like the gayest city in the Avatar universe. Just look at their slay outfits and Aiwei's cool nosering.

2.Good Chemistry

Between the cute little sparring moment with the pebble and the famed rescue scene, these two do have some excellent chemistry. Look at them. LOOK AT THEM.

The lil 'you impressed?' eyebrow raise and smirk from Bolin. Wei's smile. THE PAT PAT. Bolin's little confused bi moment. The fact that they're just CHILLIN with Bolin holding Wei bridal style while Toph is RIGHT THERE and the fact that they're in such a high stress situation and that the rest of Wei's family needs to be rescued. BUT NO, THEY'RE JUST STARING INTO EACH OTHER'S EYES BECAUSE THEY'RE IN LOVE, YOUR HONOUR.

3.Rivals to friends? to enemies to friends again to lovers???

Wei and Bolin's first interaction is a little squabble during sparring, where Wei sandwiches Bolin with 2 metal plates and Bolin smacks Wei with a pebble. They've got this whole cute little rivalry thing going on and i think it's adorable.

Assumedly, they start getting along more after Bolin and Opal start dating. This probably doesn't last long, since after Bolin joins Kuvira, his relationship with the Beifongs probably sours tremendously. Even outside of a shipping context I would wanna know what Bolin's relationship with the other Beifongs was at the time.

I imagine especially after the Beifongs get captured by Kuvira's forces, Wei wouldn't be too inclined to like Bolin. But when Bolin comes to rescue them, Wei is the first to get tossed over, which would require a lot of trust in both Lin and Bolin. And Wei's first interaction with Bolin after Bolin catches him is *ahem* very friendly. Which seems to imply that, at the very least, Bolin is somewhat forgiven.

I also think it's really fucking cute that Bolin brought metal wires for Wing and Wei to bend and I'm devastated that we didn't get the scene of him giving them to the twins. I am shaking my stick at the heavens as we speak.

Presumably, fighting side by side against Kuvira would have Wei and Bolin bonding more and perhaps striking up a genuine friendship. I love it when gays bond over traumatic events. It's the purest form of courtship.

Also whenever the twins are standing next to Bolin, Wei is always the one closer to the guy... like i know im grasping at straws here but i just... im not sane anymore

4.Lavabending/metalbending symbolism

Do I need to say more? They're both talented in two of the most prominent earthbending substyles. Also there is interesting symbolism to Bolin having struggled to learn metalbending his entire life and failing but then getting a metalbender boyfriend could be really cute. THEY LITERALLY COMPLETE EACH OTHER GUYS YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND

(also you can't tell me that Wei wouldn't find lavabending incredibly.... hot....)

5.Tension filled sparring

Their first interaction was a sparring session during which they were playing litte dirty tricks on each other. Also we all love sexually charged sparring sessions.

6.Detecting lies/performer symbolism

So I've kinda talked at length about how Bolin is a 'performer'. (Which @thenamescaba has pointed out could very well be masking. Bolin is very autism) Bolin often seems to act in a manner that would make people like him, rather than genuinely. Which is pretty in line qith his childhood. Assumedly being homeless didn't win him any perks socially, so now he's compensating by trying to garner as much positive attention as he can nowadays.

This can have an interesting contrast with Wei, who comes from a family with the ability to detect lies and assumedly also has this skill. I could totally imagine Wei calling Bolin out on contorting himself in order to be more likeable.

7.Height/Size difference

This is just self indulgent to be honest. I headcanon all the Beifongs as a pretty short family in general and while I'm pretty sure that Wei isn't very small, I have a soft spot for tall/average characters who are absolutely dwarfed by their giant, bulky partners. Also, how strong is Bolin because he is just holding a guy his age with apparently no effort???

8.Daring rescue/princess carry aesthetic

Listen, fairytales had this trope down pat for a reason. Sure it's cliche and overdone but it is a guilty pleasure for a lot of folks. Plus, I do think there's a lot of humour a usually capable metalbender having a major case of damsel-in-distressitis.

There is also the fact that the scene is unintentionally (or intentionally, i feel like SOMEONE in the writer's room has it out for me) paralleling the Nuktuk posters, for which Bolin posed with a love interest.

9. The Freedom/belonging contrasts

Now this here is a stretch, but an interesting and fun one. With Bolin we see a huge, underlying theme of him 'trying to find himself', practically feom the first season. He bounces from job to job, tries new things but nothing feels good enough. This probably stems from his childhood in the streets, he may be compensating for all the lost opportunities or something else. What does matter is that Bolin is 'untethered' and floating rather aimlessly, to his great distress. It's shown in book 2 that he envies the rest of team Avatar, who have already found their places in life.

Now, for Wei we can only use context clues and his siblings as reference but bear with me. We see that Suyin is a slightly overprotective mother, who would rather all her kids stay at home with her. We see this with Opal's hesitance to leave doe the Air Temples and with how harshly Su reacted when Kuvira nad Baatar Jr left Zaofu. This, paired with the fact that Wing and Wei are the only ones of their siblings who are 'upholding the legacy of their mother and grandmother ' might place them under a lot of pressure.

Therefore, Wei, in stark contrast to Bolin has a firmly set place in the world, one from which it would be incredibly difficult to free himself. This is completely different from Bolin, who , while he hasn't found himself yet has the freedom to be whomever he wants to.

One could set forth the idea that Wei and Bolin envy one another.

Bolin, envying Wei for having everything Bolin had wanted as a child. A stable family and life and a meaningful legacy. While Wei could be jealous of Bolin being able to forge his own path, instead of treading water.

10.Good angst potential

Being in love with your sisters boyfriend (why yes, I cannot look at Satisfied from Hamilton the same way, how did you know) is angsty even of itself, but then said boyfriend joins your fascist estranged siblings? Is this a greek tragedy? Especially that the twins and Opal seem rather close, so I think it would be unlikely that Wei would try to interfere in his sister's happiness.

Even as an unrequited romance, weilin provides a lot of potential for an amazing story. And we get to torture one of Toph's grandkids. As a treat.

On Bolin's side, realising you're queer can be a long and arduous process, especially if you've been taught otherwise. And I don't exactly believe the Triple Threats would be super accepting. This could also lead to some really sweet moments between Bolin and Mako, because Mako, for all his flaws is a very good big brother. And Korrasami could be the cool bi mentors. DO YOU SEE MY VISION. (Also Opal would be 100 percent supportive she's an absolute queen)

11.Good comedy potential

Just two himbos, dumb as the rocks they bend, tryna get together but both being too stupid and nervous to actually take the plunge.

Bolin is usually very forward with his advances, but perhaps trying to get with a guy the first time would feel like unfamiliar territory and make him even more nervous. And even so, Bolin's usual flirting is a sight to behold.

While we don't exactly know how Wei would react to this i can see him being a bit of a tsun. He just has that vibe. I could also see him not knowing how to react to being flirted with, since I can imagine that he spent most of his childhood isolated with his siblings.

I can totally imagine them both being much too awkward to make the first move and everyone around them being absolutely mentally exhausted by this weird little himbo mating ritual.

Riddle: has a nice organized house. Spends very little time playing it because he doesn't collect all the clothes and furniture. Sad that Jess only gives you a cat or dog, my boy wants a hedgehog 🙁. His house is, as you can imagine, very red, and fancy. He will take the free gifts and refuses to spend real life money. He only has 2 floors cuz he thinks it's ridiculous to go any bigger. He has the typical stuff downstairs and the second floor is all outdoors stuff. One room is just a fancy table surrounded by roses and other flowers. Only interacts with his character's partner (Floyd) when it's required for a mission or date because the dialogue is so sweet, and the teapot tyrant refuses to be a blushing mess, even alone. Also has a library, with couches and the wallpaper from the international women's day pocket surprise, he got lucky enough to get it as a free-bie. Cleans the trash in the neighborhood religiously, spans the whole around his house. Wishes there was some way to penalize whoever is tossing that trash to begin with, Trey tells him the coins he gets for each piece of trash, was fined from the litterers and that seems to pacify him 

Ace: Chaotic as hell, are we surprised? In the beginning he picked out a gray cat and named it Grim to annoy real Grim. Has Deuce as his character's partner but refuses to admit to any feelings beyond friendly ones. It's nearly sad how much he fights against the idea of him and Deuce (repressed gay, we have a repressed gay here), and claims it's just because Deuce is the best friend he's got, who else could live in his super awesome house? (note, it's not awesome, it's a mess). He can barely keep a room in order, cuz he has so much random stuff. Has a penchant for getting the same date items every single time so he has multiples of shit that he just puts up. Like the dragon dumpling date- he refuses to call them dates, they are hangouts dammit!-, he gets the same dragon head so now he has 7. He has them all hung up in a row in Deuce's room, cuz of course they separate rooms, so they stare at him when he sleeps. 

Deuce: It's blue time baby! He enjoys the game as a relaxer and decorates it pretty simple, or tries to but he gets so many things it gets a bit cluttered, no matter how many times he uses the moving truck. Once again, is in it with Ace, and gives Ace a separate room, because he thinks having his sprite and the Ace sprite sleep together would be disrespectful when Ace is so blatant about it. Loves outdoorsy space like Riddle and has at least one room as a park, complete with a duck pond. Another one who has a cat named Grim purely to be a dick. Has a room devoted to vehicles, and even has a road patterned floor, is bi and proud so he doesn't mind that the road and the cars are all rainbow-y since they come from the pride parade date. 

Trey: You know the two most done up rooms in his house are the kitchen and the bathroom. Sad he can't actually bake but the pancake minigame satisfies that urge for him. Collects the clothes he likes but lets Cater do the dressing up stuff for him. Tries to keep it simple and fun. For the bit he googles ¨ normal things to have in a house¨, cuz he's normal. Totally normal, run of the mill, average. Totally. Has some rooms that are ¨weird¨, like what appears to be the waiting room for a dentist office, and one that seems to be a cellar, with the wine glass chair and buckets of berries. Actually, the 2nd one isnt that weird

Cater: Do I have to say it? Aesthetic king! Always dresses him and Trey up so fly,  is sure to change outfits everyday. Spends $20 a month on this thing because he has to have all the fresh new furniture from the pocket surprises. Both loves and hates how affectionate the characters are, he feels that he can't really have that and Trey only sees him as a friend. Someone just love this boy, he needs it. His favorite date is the cat cafe one cuz its cool and trendy but also fairly romantic, and coffee shops carry not-sweet food, like bagels, so he can actually enjoy eating there

Slenderman and eyeless jack live within the same woods, with slenderman having his oldass mansion (fight me, im adding the mansion to the au, but its not going to be nearly as extravagant and cozy as the fanon) and eyeless jack with his little cabin

Slenderman is the only real permanent resident of the manor; anyone who comes to live inside it are usually temporary. Be that because its them choosing to leave, or they are forced to leave and are no longer welcome. Though I think Slenderman would have a fair amount of leniency, given the fact that's he's seen it all. So save for a few people or behaviors, his door is open

Even Hoodie and Masky don't live with him, since they still have their own... autonomy..? To an extent they're still Brian and Tim, living fairly normal lives until the big man needs them to do his dirty work

The closest that lives with him is Kate; who's in proxy mode all of the time. Downside, she's not fully loyal to Slenderman. Actually she's not fully loyal to anyone, and she rarely ever enters the mansion. Rather, she's running off doing her own thing in the woods. Just a feral person, really. That's not to say she isn't dangerous or unintelligent, though. She may be aggressive and reclusive but she knows how to lure in people and set up traps

That's about it on Kate; I'm still building up what I want her character and role in the au to be, and honestly? I forgot who she was for a hot minute <\3

Ben doesn't have a physical body, most of the time. I'll elaborate more on that in a second.

Basically, he's more or less completely bound to electronics, and can only really interact with people through it. Good news is he can hop from device to device, though I'm still working out the limitations of that... usually hangs out in Jeff's old ass flip phone.

Yes it's specifically a flip phone, doesn't matter the brand. Reason is is because I think it'd be funny if Ben and Jeff got into an argument and Jeff just. Shuts it when Ben is mid sentence

Moving on, Ben and Jeffs whole thing is meant to work as an anti/opposite to the jane and laughing jill plot; two characters partnering up against one another for their own goals

Also I think Ben and Jeff have a cool friendship

Admittedly I don't have any romantic ships, so those are likely going to be few and far between in the au; but I do want to explore different dynamics and such if I ever make this into a proper story

Jane, jeff, and nina are 23, 24, and 22 (respectively)

Tim and Brian are both in their early 30s, and Kate is roughly 27

Eyeless Jack physically is about 25, but mentally he's not much older

YOU DIDNT ASK so im sorry in advance (especially because i wont be explaining this well) But. ill be so honest i dont think the t-shirt kon is bad in a vacuum like it could be cute 😭 i do think its genuinely kinda fun when the characters wear their own little merch. the t-shirt outfit is even kind of funny because hes literally just wearing a t-shirt and jeans 😭 i love kon no matter what!!

but in the context of the transition from young justice (the comic) and the gang "graduating" into the teen titans (vol.3) i feel like it was a regression for him. idk i read into kon and transness+being lgbt too much so ive seen interpretations of it being his internalized homo/transphobia because its also a time where he has a secret identity for the first time in small-town america... and i do enjoy that, but it was Not intended by the writes (especially considering who was writing him in the mid-late 2000s)

kon's character to start off is really about identity and the reclamation of it when he was intended to be a Thing, and how he struggled under the weight of acting like he thinks he should/expectations placed on him (especially because he did not have an alternate identity or a name at first, he was just superboy. THEN kon el and conner kent) and how he expresses himself by replacing a tag cadmus put on him with a gold earring and generally dressing in a flashy and flamboyant and alternative way

so then when we transition to the teen titans kon, they sort of......strip him of that expression of personality. hes put in a t-shirt and jeans. they take away his earring. hes put in a relationship w/ cassie sandsmark (who btw. is very wlw coded to match him in the YJ comic, and both of their designs suffered what we call the cishetifcation) that is ultimately so bad for their characters (meanwhile kon is written into the most gay coded friendship w/ tim drake for like. a decade.)

and the young justice cartoon is an adaptation that was attempting to take the teen titans run from the 80s i believe? and young justice 98-2003, AND the 00's teen titans run. (decades of story to work with and way too many characters and groups, leads the cartoon to, in my opinion, suffer from a too many cooks situation)

and it does not handle kons character very well at all either </3 AND they used the t-shirt design while sticking him in a very unhealthy relationship w/ a character hes never really interacted w/ much in the comics. so umm. TL;DR very mixed feelings on t-shirt conner

i do recommend reading young justice though <3 (AND IM GLAD YOU LIKE MY DESIGN !! tysm <333 the curly hair is a must <3) sorry for the essay i just wanted to expand on why i put the t-shirt boy in the "sigh" categories 😭

ah, when i said i liked t-shirt conner, i didn’t mean the outfit, i was specifically referring to the young justice cartoon’s characterization ^^; i do acknowledge that it was a mixed bag that was forced to cherrypick years of history as an adaptation, and i get why conner fans don’t see him as Their Conner, but i’m gonna be so real with you. i liked him a lot in the cartoon 😭 as a standalone show, the first season does a rly good job of letting you understand his struggles and thought process, there were a lot of moments that endeared me to his angst while also letting him still feel like a kid. but i think i’m also biased towards characters that default to anger as a trauma response (completely unrelated to recent events believe it or not! wacky coincidence tho! foreshadowing even…?)

conner and m’gann’s relationship was def not the most interesting to me, but it’s also not the worst one. i have other biases against. other couples. but i’m curious to see how it develops bc unhealthy or not, i wanna see how it affects the characters, ykwim? like i’m not in it for the shipping, even if we All know there’s a better conner ship U__U

idk i just feel worn out by comics cynicism bc while i get it (i’m a hal fan, by god do i get it), i also don’t want to treat anything in dc too sacred. it’s more fun for me personally to view new iterations/adaptations as puzzles to work out rather than view them as character assassinations if even that. there are some truly unsalvageable things out there, but i generally think there’s smth good to gain in everything. and the young justice cartoon gave me a t-shirt conner to gain in my heart, so i can’t fault his character change too much as drastic as it is

hi hi friends! i hope you’re all doing well. june was a little bit of a whirlwind for me, but i was still able to read six things that i can’t wait to talk about with you! june is also my army anniversary with bts, and this year was the fifth! which feels very insane to type! but jimin also dropped a song the exact day, so the month for sure is ending on a happy note! but let’s get into the six books i read this month! 💜 ✨ Jujutsu Kaisen, Vol. 04 by Gege Akutami ⭐⭐⭐ ➛ vol. 1 ★★★★ ➛ vol. 2 ★★★ ➛ vol. 3 ★★★ i really am loving every itadori and sukuna interaction/moment. honestly, sukuna was my favorite character in this fourth installment, and im not sure what that says about me, but here we are. my heart @ junpei, fully and utterly. mahito, after my fave scene with sukuna, thinks up a new mission to steal some remaining cursed fingers of sukuna. but besides that, we get to see the start of the good year event, which is a team battle of different schools, where the most exorcisms win. but obviously, itadori is a target all on his own. so, so, so excited to continue on, probably extra because of the cliffhanger ending feeling of this, too! trigger + content warnings: fighting / battle, violence, blood, gore, death, talk of bullying ✨ One Perfect Couple by Ruth Ware ⭐⭐ i feel like i really can’t talk about this book without getting into a little spoilery territory, so please skip over this review if you wish to know nothing about this thriller! (and i do say thriller and not thriller mystery because there really isn’t much mystery to this story whatsoever, which is also probably a reason i didn’t enjoy it as much!) but i picked this up because 1) i have enjoyed ruth ware in the past and 2) the girls were saying survivor meets love island and i will always be here for that set up! But instead of love island and survivor, we get lord of the flies and men’s rights activists. our main character, lyla, reluctantly agrees to go on a reality tv dating show, set on a secluded island, because her boyfriend is an actor and really begs her to do it because it could be very good for his career. lyla’s lab contract is up next month, and the funding renewal isn’t looking too good, so she also agrees under the condition that she can work on her paper and that she can only be on the island for two weeks. but after filming for only 24 hours, a big storm comes that is not only deadly but has completely made the people on the island not be able to contact anyone to come save them. okay im posting a mile a minute and i might be hypomanic but im thinking about clones so hard right now. i got a lotta thoughts about non-typical romance stories that can or do lean into dark fiction and how we should interact with em and also how the concept of clones/clonemance can actually analogously translate into a completely different, healthy thing that happens in real life and how thats really incredibly cool actually.

i do NOT care about speculative/dark fiction in terms of taboos cause like, its fiction. its fake. i can x out of the tab or close the book if it pops up. sometimes i need to get outta dodge so i do that. obviously irl incest is liferuining and bad. i dont have to virtue signal about it bc im confident that i know the difference between reality and fiction. i hope no ones arguing against irl incest being bad but who fuckin knows its the internet unfortunately & i stay outta those spaces like they got the plague. have to for my sanity. but like

hear me out im not going where it sounds like im goin i promise. leave the fuckin ship discourse at the door and let me talk about art-audience interaction for a sec. clone romance is not like stories about incest at all. theyre different by several albiet very technical degrees. extremely brief spoilers for crimsion peak and the game SOMA and under the cut cause this got gd long and they just kinda got brought up

argument: dirkhal is adjacent to real life intersystem relationships and i wanna tell you why i think that in a roundabout way that hopefully makes sense

peeling back a lil first. let me lift the curtain to stare at it and think about why its blue. like blue specifically and not idk, green or purple

dark fiction (like incest plotlines) is labled as such bc its supposed to disturb you but in a safe contained way that you can back out of. the curtain has been made blue to specifically envoke feelings we feel when we think about the colour blue, like make you feel sad or think of the sky. ya feel? its there to do a job. if youre in a good head space it can be cool and interesting to dig into like, gothic horror romance, a genre that famously features incest as a plot twist. this type of art is supposed to at least be mildly disturbing if you havent built up a tolerance to said horror, or are just not easily scared in general. the horror of the reality of incest is embedded into gothic horror historically. its what made it popular arguably. del toro's crimsion peak is a perfect modern example. the '''romance''' IS whats scary in this genre. i think its an interesting inverse of the typical non-horror romance genre. the shit with daenerys and viserys targaryen wouldnt have been NEARLY as nervewracking if they hadnt also been siblings while viserys imposed himself onto her. that was the thing that added to the fear for dany in those episodes, at least thats how it was for me. its what compounded her situation from something already frightening into something desperate. its whats disturbing about cersei and jaime and what makes joffreys entire existance truly sick and twisted underneath all of his already sick and twisted violence

hear me out hear me out. its like enjoying the saw movies bc of the gore and torture but a little to the left. you know obviously (at least i hope you would know) that putting someone in a saw trap in real life is wrong but because its all fake and the story and characters are engaging and dramatic, your brain, if youre inclined to this type of stuff, will go oooo thats cool, cool special effect that scared me haha im gonna watch the next one. and you will probably watch the next one because you know its fake and not real and that no one is actually being hurt. so morally you are always fine because you are enjoying watching fake blood get splattered around. youre enjoying the simulation of fear for this fictional character being tormented by her weirdo brother. you dont like what the lannester twins are doing but you might have still cried at lena headeys performance when joffrey finally beefed it bc shes still acting out a mother losing her kid. youre not a bad person for that

its like, if you look at the painting 'saturn devouring his son' by goya what do you feel? odds are youre gonna be feeling at least a little disturbed, which is the art doing what its supposed to. some of yall might enjoy it because its scaring you a lil and some of yall might not because of the same thing. incest in fiction is like that to me. its like being on a rollercoaster. your safe but its fake-scary even if youre enjoying the shit outta yourself. thats why fictional incest is still scary. its a scary thing that does very much happen irl and even when its obviously fake and fictional it can still scare you. thats why its such a common squick (triggers notwithstanding, those are not squicks and are in the realm of actually taking care of yourself to prevent flashbacks. its on you to do that for yourself not anyone else. i had to learn that the long and hard way. dont take that sentence out of context dear god)

BUT moving on to like, the actual reason why im writing all this shit

clone and specifically clone romance is something i wanna see more of sooo bad bc its not like gothic horror type incest romance AT ALL. its so far removed from reality. it literally cant happen the way were think about it in fiction. its entirely safe to speculate about forever

what does it mean to be a clone. existentially. especially if your genetic source or your other clone is not around (dead, forcefully separated bc Plot, etc) or way the fuck in your business (put you in his own computer and then ishades. never shuts you off or puts you out of his site. keeps you in his literal face. lives in a tiny apartment in the middle of the sea)

like the scifi of it all. the last couple minutes of 2001 a space odyessy type horror of it all. the tragedy the ego death the desperation to just be able to be your own person. and what does it even MEAN to be your own person if youre a clone anyway? especially if youre all up in each others business all the time because you have no where else to go?

dirkhal is perfect for this in particular bc the clone in question starts out as strings of code. STRINGS OF CODE. like holy fuck. hes completely intangeble. and he did that to himself. he thought itd be a cool idea because he thought hed be doing it to Some Other Guy. but the other guy was himself. idk if anyone reading this has played or watched someone else play SOMA but the horror of that is. fucking wow. it fucks me up

again similar to incest irl transhumanism is a major NOPE for me like get away from me w/ that shit. i like my organic body thanks. i think my body is wonderful with all its squishy warm bits that go gloop and splorp without any brain chips or head transplants onto mecha bodies

its very fun to explore in fiction. and again hal is perfect for this. and it just adds to the overall weirdness of dirk and hals situation

he (dirk) accidentally separated (ascended???) his own damn self away from his humanity (dirk2.0 -> AR -> hal). turns out he doesnt like it. big surprise there. and then he spends all of his screentime trying to claw his way back into his humanity at the cost of the person arguably closest to him

who is also. drum roll. himself. dirk1.0. like GODDAMN THATS GOOD

and it is very different from twincest type stories bc depending on how the characters were cloned their brains are exactly the same. it cant possibly be like incest because clones the way were thinking of them are impossible. its just not possible to clone your exact self physically with everything inside your brain metaphysically (memories, tastes, prefrences, personality, language both verbal and subconciously expressed through the body) intact

and again depending on how the clones are written they (like dirk and hal) could very easily have the same memories and personalities!! i cant think of any other real world instance of anything to draw a connection to except intersystem relationships. two people sharing a brain and body but who are very much different people from each other. your mileage may vary on how different two alters are to each other at any given point. OSDDID is so varied because every single body's physical brain is mapped differently, even in twins. its how you can have identical twins but have their personalities and preferences be radically different from each other. but that doesnt necessarily happen within a system. especially in polyfragmented or OSDD systems. because theyre not twins or siblings or anything other than system members who share a brain

two people in a system will have the same brain and same or similar memories from the same shared life in the same body but them being romantically involved will absolutely the fuck not be incest by ANY stretch of the word. trust me i am an expert on this. if you believe it is then idk what to tell you. i dont really want you around us if you think this. my system has several internal relationships that have been a thing for a very very long time. we have an intersystem couple who originated sometime in our childhood by literal cloning of the same alter within the brainspace and they have been entangled with eachother emotionally ever since, for better or worse, and started officially dating very recently. they are inherently very different people, but they came from the exact same root and that still shows through sometimes. they are by this specific definition of the word the closest thing we have to real life clones. sorry to get personal but its fuckin incredible and kinda the only concrete example i have

so in my humble opinion clone romance is much MUCH more adjacent to irl intersystem relationships, if we want to draw a connection between fiction and real life. which i dont typically like doing ever but i actually got skin in this game and i want to see intersystem relationships talked about way more openly. it can be part of life if youre plural and its fun as hell to translate aspects of it into fiction. like clone romance and dirkhal and homestuck in general

there is so many aspects of plurality i can see in homestuck. almost every character has some type of clone at some point (temporal, brain ghosts, robots, splinters). beta rose inherents the memories of davesprite's doomed rose. alpha kids in general are paradoxical clones of themselves. they literally only come from themselves genetically. dirk himself is the POSTERBOY for plurality, ESPECIALLY Ult Dirk. im not saying theres any intentional plural coding going on, but its really fuckin cool to look at these patterns and find something familiar. dirkhal are a plural couple to me

I have like MAJOR irrational fears that i am a horrible person like. Almost constantly and pro vs anti discourse makes that shit go fucking WILD. anyway. Yeah i have like this almost fanatic paranoid fear that no matter how hard i try i am a Bad Person and that im like. Metaphorically rotting from the inside and eventually i will expose it to everyone that i am Bad and Awful and Nasty and that even then when everything goes bad ill be completely unaware of my own inherent corruptness and that i will eventually hurt people or whoever i have the capacity to hurt and that things are doomed to fail for me because im such an abhorrent person

I am a mother of a one year old and therefore don’t have a ton of time to spend roleplaying on here so I may be slow. But I swear I’ll get to my replies eventually.

I don’t really like roleplaying in IMs, I’m easily forgetful and am highly likely to forget we’re even roleplaying there.

Things I won’t roleplay: Horror, gore, things of that nature, weight gain fetishes.

I don’t mind doing a little nsfw but prefer to fade to black rather than full on write smut. But I’m alright answering some nsfw asks.

If you don’t feel like doing a thread anymore, feel free to drop it. I’m also always fine starting new threads!

I’m really bad at working with one liner threads. It is difficult for me to write against as I’m too used to the multi-para style on Gaia Online though on here try to stick with one paragraph maybe more. I apologize as I might decline roleplaying with you or drop a thread if it is only one liners.

If a reply I make isn’t something you can work with or something is wrong with it, please tell me! I don’t mind at all and won’t get mad. Sometimes I might make a not so great post because I’m tired or not thinking straight so I don’t mind editing it. Better that then just have it ignored and not continued on.

Please no god-modding/power playing (meaning controlling my characters completely, auto hitting them, killing them without my ok). Nobody really likes it. Unless I give you the okay like it’s a crack rp or it’s something small like moving my character along to move things quicker.

LITTLE KID POV and thru this pov the fic takes us thru this like, rlly sincere snapshot of who marius is when hes connected over something he loves: art. thru just the interaction in here, a very clear understanding of marius shines thru even if the fic isnt going too "deep" so to speak.

man mAAANNNNN!!! this fic is such a huge fave of mine!!! the artem wing we know and love ends up in a universe where things r the same but Not Really. that in itself had me hooked but then galena goes the extra mile by using this fantastic premise as a way to make artem realize and confront his flaws and fears. that + some rlly cool plot + SO MUCH FOUND FAMILY FEEEELLLSSSSS //SOBS. artem's pov here is exquisite, it's got this solid/strict vibe in how he handles himself but also this like, looping and almost endless questioning of his faults as a person, IT'S SO GREAT TO READ!!!

Straw Hats With A Devil Fruit User! Shipmate

A/N : More Platonic! Straw Hats interaction :)

Okay, so I’m going to assume Tumblr hates me because it keeps not saving any of my work?

Summary : Straw Hats with a shipmate who has a devil fruit, who falls overboard whilst on the ship.

How did you get into this mess?

Here you were, in the middle of the ship, surrounded by the worried looks of your crew mates as you continued to cough up the sea water.

You were drenched from head-to-toe, currently on your knees and pounding your chest to get out all the water you swallowed.

Zoro, Sanji and Brook was beside you, also drenched completely, and was panting heavily after having just jumped in the ocean to save you from drowning, with Brook actually collapsed on the deck.

Luffy was in front of you, crying and freaking out that he almost lost you because of him.

You could only listen silently, thinking back on the series of events that had happened just minutes prior.

“You guys, please calm down, you’re going to fall off the ship soon! Luffy!”

Ignoring your words, Usopp, Chopper and Luffy continued to run around mindlessly, yelling and laughing loudly as they did.

“Let then be, [Name]. There’s no stopping their chaos at this point..” Nami mumbles defeatedly, clearly feeling exhausted as she rubs her temples from the upper deck.

“Yohohoho!~ so lively today, aren’t they?” Brook chuckles, sitting against the mast as he sipped his cup of tea. 

Robin beside him, reading a book whilst also drinking some tea. “Yes, they sure are quite a trio.”

“Two of them are devil fruit users though, if they’re not more careful, they’ll end up shoving one another into the water. Or worse, shoving one of us into the water.” You point out, feeling a headache forming as you exhale heavily.

“And I don’t know about you guys, but I’m not looking forward to getting wet, nor having to fish them out.” You add, now crossing your arms as you stood off to the side by the railing, still watching Luffy screaming and laughing with Chopper and Usopp. “Not that I’ll be able to go in after them.”

"Don't tell me your afraid of a little water?"

Hearing the familiar voice, you turn over to see the green-haired male sitting against the tree with his arms crossed and swords at his side.

Your brow twitches at him, narrowing your eyes as you huffed heavily at him.

Zoro's voice clearly laced a bit of a mocking tone to it, him opening his one eye to glance to you, a small smirk tugging at his lips.

"Shut it, you stupid swordsman! I'm not afraid, but unlike you non-devil fruit users, I can't swim if I tried! I’ll drown!" You scowl, pointing at Zoro who just laughs at you.

"Don't worry, my dear [Name]-chan~ I WILL GLADLY JUMP IN AND SAVE YOU!~" Sanji sang with hearts in his eyes, swooning from where he was, currently setting down a fresh pot of tea for Brook and Robin.

You only sigh softly at him and smile lightly, shaking your head at him before turning to the loud trio.

“Tag, you’re it! Haha!” Usopp shouts, finally reaching Luffy who gasps before grinning and stretching his arms all over the deck.

Emerging from below deck, Franky climbs up from the trap-door and smiles widely. “Oi, Luffy! Want to see my newest addition to my body?”

Stopping midway from chasing Usopp, Luffy stops and turns over to Franky with wide eyes. “Ooh, yeah! What is it?!”

As Franky finally got up from the ladder and closed the trap-door, Usopp shouts excitedly. “Wait, I wanna see too, Franky!”

“Yeah, let us see!” Chopper eagerly nods, going after Usopp to see too.

Franky nods, chortling loudly as he began heading to the center of the deck, Usopp, Chopper and Luffy following and stood in front of him, behind them at a distance was the railing.

The others glance over with a bit of curiosity, just wanting to see what Franky had to show.

You did the same, wondering if it was a gimmick he made for himself or if it would be useful in battle.

“I made this especially to defend and attack enemies in battle. You ready?!” Franky shouts, extending his arms out wide.

“AYE!” The trio shouts in unison after, all looking in anticipation and excitement.

“Alright!” Franky’s torso opened a hatch and a hole was seen. A few seconds of silence overtook the air before he spoke. 

“Franky... HUMAN BLOWDRYER!”

... What?

Just like it sounded, a large gust of warm air started to blow out from the hole in Franky’s chest and straight at the trio.

The wind wasn’t too strong, but it was strong enough to have their clothes and lips flapping and blowing from the air.

Y’know, how the lips start moving and flapping when anime characters are moving too fast or wind is blowing too hard-

You could only stare from before in disbelief, unable to comprehend exactly what was happening.

The others sweatdropped at the sight, the anti-climatic feeling washing over them as they stare the scene before them.

Once Franky turned off the blowdryer in his torso, it was silent for a moment. Before the trio screamed out in awe.

“SO COOLL!~ ✨” the trio awes.

Franky laughs aloud at their reactions while you just exhale at them. “Awesome right?! It’s my SUUPPERRR~ HUMAN BLOWDRYER!”

“Wow.” The others thought together.

“Franky..” you began heading towards the cyborg as Usopp and Chopper went off to the side, clearly still excited but had their fun.

“How is exactly that supposed to be helpful to us in battle..?” You mumble, furrowing your brows as Franky hums at you.

“What’re you talking about? This would definitely be useful! I could blow off any dust or dirt on you guys and since this new addition is equipped with different power levels too, I can blow all our enemies away as we escape.” Franky explains, gesturing to his torso.

You glance inside the hole and notice the little knob that you could turn and saw the many numbered levels and nod in realization.

“Hm.. I guess it could be handy at some point..” you mumble, standing back up straight and began heading to the railing, just as Luffy was heading towards Franky.

“Plus, I could dry you guys off after a shower.” Franky adds, almost as if trying to convince you that it was indeed useful.

Nami’s eyebrow twitched at Franky’s insinuation, misinterpreting his meaning behind his words.

Luffy just grins widely. “What do you mean, [Name]? This is awesome! Hey Franky, do your high power level on me!”

You only sigh and lean against the railing, shaking your head. “Right.”

“Er.. are you sure? That highest power level isn’t meant to be used on humans. I only added it because-“ Despite Franky protesting against the idea, Luffy wasn’t listening.

“Come on! It’ll be fine, just do it!” Luffy insists and Usopp furrows his brows.

“I don’t know, Luffy. The wind that was blowing against us just now was already pretty strong. Just imagine what the highest power level would be.”

You weren’t paying attention anymore, just trying to relax in the fresh air as you glance down at the ocean, leaning against the railing. Directly behind you was Luffy in front of Franky’s Blowdryer.

“Stop worrying, I’ll be fineee! Just turn it on, Franky!”

If only you knew what was going to occur behind you.

Franky, after a little bit of reluctance, finally agreed. “Alright, hold on to something then.” With that, Franky turned the knob to its most powerful setting and began to activitate his newest power.

“Franky..”

“WAIT, FRANKY!-“ the others finally noticed that you were directly in line of Franky’s Blowdryer but before Franky could stop it, it had already begun.

“...MAXIMUM HUMAN BLOWDRYER!”

The immense air pressure knocked Luffy back, making him collide right into your unknown figure and pushed you right overboard, Luffy following after but held on by the railing of the ship.

He hadn’t even realize he knocked you over as well until he heard the splashing of the ocean.

“[NAME]!” Each of the crew members widen their eyes in shock as Zoro clicks his tongue and quickly stood up, running over to the edge and jumped into the ocean after.

Sanji immediately did the same, and after screaming in horror and fear, Brook instinctively ran after and jumped in as well.

“Hey, BROOK!”

You didn’t even have time to process what just happened as you try to rise to the surface, only to fail because well, you had devil fruit powers.

“[Name], Brook!” Luffy shouts, still holding onto the railing as he pulls himself up and then leans down from it to see if Zoro was pulling you up or not.

Luckily, Zoro was quick and was now holding onto you tightly, pulling you by his side as he glances up.

“What the hell were you thinking?!” He shouts from below towards Luffy.

Sanji rises to the top, kicking below him to float as he drags Brook up to surface as well. “Oi, you idiot! Did you forget you have devil fruit powers too?!”

Brook didn’t answer, feeling drowsy and exhausted from the water.

“Hang on, we’ll get you guys in!” Nami calls, as her and Usopp began heading down below deck to open one of the gates and pull you in with the raft they had.

You grunted a bit in pain, closing your eyes and coughing roughly as you did your best to cling onto Zoro.

“Oi, you okay? When I asked you if you were afraid of water, it wasn’t a sign for you to challenge me and jump overboard.” Zoro jokes a bit, glancing down at you as he held you up above the water.

“Tch... you jerk.. not like I wanted to go overboard..” you tiredly mutter, making Zoro chuckle lightly. He couldn’t help the small smile forming on his lips, glad to see you were okay.

“Put them on!” Nami calls, letting the waves guide the raft out and Sanji pulls it closer towards him. He tosses Brook on board, making the skeleton grunt and shout out the best he could. “You could be a bit more gentle!”

“Shut up! Oi, put [Name]-chan on, you marimo.” Sanji watched as Zoro swims closer to the raft and helps him put you on.

“Shut up, you stupid cook. They’re on!” Zoro calls and Nami, Usopp and Chopper began pulling the raft in, Zoro and Sanji swimming towards the ship after them.

So that’s what led to where you were now.

“IM SORRY [NAME]! WE ALMOST LOST YOU! I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO YOU BUT FRANKY’S NEW POWER WAS SO COOL AND I WANTED TO SEE IT AT ITS FULL POWER BUT IT KNOCKED YOU OVER AND WE ALMOST—“ Luffy’s shouts were cut off with Nami’s punch to his head.

“SHUT UP! Instead of crying and freaking out, just get them something to warm them up or something! And we already warned you it was a bad idea but you didn’t listen!” Nami scolds, Luffy whining at the unnecessary punch, rubbing his head.

Usopp and Robin sighs at their antics, just glad that you and Brook were okay.

Chopper brought out some blankets and his stethoscope, making you lay down to check if you had any injuries, since Luffy collided into you pretty roughly.

“I’m fine.. Chopper. Thank you.” You smile weakly to the little reindeer, who only frowns. “Just let me check real quick, [Name].”

Franky looks to you and frowns himself. “Sorry, [Name]. I should’ve seen you and shouldn’t have done it, regardless of Luffy’s persistence.”

“I’m fine, Franky. Plus, you’re right. That’s quite a powerful move that’ll help us in battle, I’m sure.” You assure, a genuine small smile on your lips.

Franky tears up at your kind words. “Ahhh, how SUUPERR~ sweet of you, [Name]!” He cries out, making you sweatdrop as you rub your sore throat a bit.

Chopper noticed and quickly left to get you some water. You glance to Zoro and Sanji and sigh. “Thanks, you two.” Zoro only nods dismissively as Sanji swoons. “Of course, [Name]-chan~!”

You stare at Brook, looking at his lifeless skeleton and smiled softly before turning to Luffy’s teary face and close your eyes.

Why you were in such a chaotic crew, you didn’t know.

Would you ever leave? Never. You loved your Straw Hat family too much. You were home.

I'm seeing you talk about it a bit on twitter, and I'm vigorously nodding my head to much of what you and others are criticizing the finale for. Obviously, if you'd rather just ignore this whole fiasco, I completely understand, and I look forward to the stories you continue to make about Webby and Lena!

SPECIFICALLY the weird webby and lena moments -- Lena calling team magic sisters and Webby snapping at Lena for her strong reaction to getting her string on the board cut -- mean absolutely nothing to me. i simply reject them. i dont know where they came from. Lena and Webby havent called each other sisters since their first episode together. It feels...unlike Webby to snub a Lena apology like that.  

And then they didnt really....interact again much, after that, right? unless im forgetting. there was a lot to be mad about.

and I guess, like. Here’s the thing. aside from some really powerful moments in season 2, the romantic subtext surrounding webby and lena was EXTREMELY dialed back. we had Lena’s hyper-powered jealous freak out in friendship hates magic and...what Ive always counted as an indirect kiss in nightmare on killmotor hill, but there were no more leslie-knopisms. Far less of Webby waxing poetic about lena’s virtues. Adding Violet meant less shared capital-L Looks or hugs or hand holds. So By the time season 2 wrapped up and a lot of that stuff wasnt as apparent, and they never bothered mentioning Lena ONCE before she came back, it became kind of clear that this was not a thing that was happening any more.

Then we got Penny’s “outing” which was not at all an outing. And seeing that penny not wanting to date earth men was a “compromise” that needed to be “fought for” really nailed that coffin shut for me. If we couldn’t get an openly wlw totally original tertiary character, we weren’t going to get it from Webby.

I dont know if they got unhappy executive notes about season 1 or if there was someone around championing the relationship early in production who left to work on other things, or if they just decided it wasnt important, but any hope held out for it after late season 2 was just me being delusional. I wanted to believe, I really did.

i havent written in a long time because i dont really have any stories left to tell, but I do brainstorm many projects with PCS. while I, and especially he, have often taken canon reveals in stride (when he first started writing Longest Shadows, we did not yet know about Violet. He was able to add her in fairly seamlessly, i think) I dont think we’ll be paying attention to any of this, ESPECIALLY some shit about Webby being Scrooge’s clone. (dumb dumb stupid dumb) I mean, you can ask him about it, but I know we’ve already shared some choice words, lol. Even if I operate under the assumption that the clone thing is and has been true all along, I’ll simply be working in a universe where it never came to light.

i can’t believe we would take this story about found family and make it about genetics in the 11th hour. what the holy fucking fuck is this nonsense. ugh.

I dont want to say I cant believe i wasted the last 5 years of my life on ducktales, because I didnt. It meant a lot to me. I had a lot of fun, i met some really awesome people, and in particular one person I can count among my very best friends in the whole world. so it wasnt a waste. And im not going to go on one of these weird tirades against frank where I try to hold him accountable for my emotional damages or whatever because Im an adult and not delusional. Thats the story he wanted to tell, for some reason I will never understand. We’re going to keep writing and daydreaming our own. And maybe, if Im lucky, I’ll live long enough to see the next reboot headed by some queer kid who grew up seeing themself in little baby gay webby vanderquack and makes it canon. N...not that we need another reboot. But i would watch that one. Just saying.

Hi!! I am a fan of your writing and especially your characterization of the Mikaelson family. The way you translate them into the human world in your AU fics is something I am always obsessing over. Anyway, I just wanted to know if you prefer TO or TVD (it is just something I am always curious about in the case of Klaroline writers...). And why you prefer Klaroline over Klamille?

In spite of what my writing history might suggest, and the fact I do love the Mikaelsons, I’m not a big fan of The Originals. 😅 I enjoyed some of the show for the first two seasons, but from S3 onward I couldn’t even finish it when it was still airing. I prefer TVD, though not all of it either. S2 and 3 of TVD are *chefs kiss*, and S4 is good, too.

I was never really a fan of Klamille. It always seemed to me like it was shooed into TO for the sake of giving Klaus a romantic interest. The chemistry was barely there and the way they built it frankly did Camille so dirty. Lol she was used as a prop a lot of the time, had no story or will of her own (she spends almost the entirety of s2, when she shows up at all, as a glorified babysitter) contradicting what her own character was meant to represent/stand for on the show. I don’t hate Cami, but I wish they’d done a better job there, both with her character and the ship, if that’s what they really wanted to go for. And the season that was meant to solidify them as a ship was just 🤣 S3 is such a mess. Nothing makes sense, the whole build up there is so screwed up, Klaus is half in love with Aurora the whole time, and what they did to vampire!Cami, honestly. It was just a very, very badly written story, so it’s really no wonder that most people who already shipped Klaus with someone else couldn’t get into it, and that was very much my case.

I think all the things they kept telling us on TO that cami/Klamille was supposed to mean/represent but was never really shown were thing that Klaroline had in a much more natural and fleshed out way. Klaus was genuinely more conscious around Caroline, he felt the weight of his decisions, he showed regret, actively chose to forego revenge and punishment because of her, to risk himself or his family just to help her (it even happens on TO when he risks luring Rayna Cruz to NO because Caroline was having a mental breakdown over Stefan and the twins lol). It’s really the only time when klaus seems to reckon with consequences for someone who’s not on his family. That’s not to say Caroline made klaus a better person, I don’t think anybody could ever make him better, but it did make him more conscious of his actions, and all because she truly held him accountable for the stuff he did, didn’t just let it slide or gave him a pass because “oh no Mikael was so mean”. And the chemistry they had was truly intense! A lot of it came from the way they were written, the clashing of personalities and ideologies, so to speak, which worked. Caroline wasn’t shown as this pure, well of goodness, she had darkness in her, but she had a grip over it, and while she was very much attracted to Klaus, she didn’t let that skewer her sense of correctness. That leveled the field for them. While Klaus held all of the physical power in their interactions, Caroline had the emotional power. They were equals in that sense. For Klamille, the power imbalance was way too big, and the way the whole thing starts was just a nuh-uh that I could never get past. Klaus literally pimps her out to Marcel against her will and there was never a moment when he was made to acquit himself for it, or when she was legit angry about it, quite the opposite. It’s barely addressed at all.

With Cami, Klaus remained every bit an unrepentant psycho little shit and she was just there to excuse his actions. She never held him accountable, not even when he killed his brothers girlfriend in cold blood and cursed the mother of his child. Instead, she seemed satisfied when he said he bit her so dahlia wouldn’t think he cared about her lol I was genuinely angry when she trying to make excuses for him to Elijah when he’d just witnessed his girlfriend burn to death. 😂 Like omg woman, get a grip 🤣 It was almost naive the way she seemed to think he had an inherent “goodness” and kept buying his daddy issue bs every time he did something inexcusable. So while I was hearing one thing being said, the actions on the show were telling me a completely different story, and Cami came out as easily manipulated and naive, rather than someone with a strong sense of righteousness and cunning enough to understand the mind of an original vampire. She was Klaus’ excuse, not his moral compass. There was no balance in their dynamic. And so that whole line became very dull and annoying to me because it just made no sense, and then S3 just lost me completely on everything (not just Cami, but Cami was for sure one of the things they messed up).

Im sorry, anon, I got a little carried away here. 🤣🤣🤣 But yeah, not a fan of Klamille even though I don’t hate Cami. I actually think she deserved better.
