Hello, I’ve recently subscribed to your patreon and, first off, it’s one of the best metaphysical ones I’ve seen; your ideas are both very clearly explained and satisfyingly in depth! Second, I was curious whether there are any particular sources which you’ve found helpful in researching astrology, as well as how it connects to tarot (other than the sources on tarot in particular you have linked here in your blog description)

Yes! There are a few.

I never read a beginner book, I kind of jumped in the deep end, so I don't have one to recommend personally. I have seen On the Heavenly Spheres by Helen Avelar and Luis Robiero recommended a lot.

For astrology generally, I really recommend the Astrology Podcast. It is not short form, the episodes are long. But if you can listen to them in chunks they go over so much good stuff. I have a directory of some of their best educational episodes here but they added many more educational ones since. You could basically get a masterclass just listening to the podcast.

Chris Brennan's Hellenistic Astrology book is amazing, but very dense. It's an intermediate to advanced text. Someone kindly gifted it to me several years ago and I'm still making my way through it.

For the decans through tarot and the like, T. Susan Chang kindly has left her amazing Reading the Decans series up which is a treasure trove unto itself. Her book 36 Secrets is also a great read.

For the Decans themselves, Austin Coppock's 36 Faces has been well reviewed by those who could get their hands on the first couple print runs. It's sold out now but it's one to keep an eye out for. I swear the moment I get the notice he's on sale, I'm grabbing it.

My name is Sailor, I'm 20; and my pronouns are she/they.

I have another blog for my school related studies called @sailorstudies-blog (that is my main blog, so all follows and like will come from there), and this blog is for my witchcraft studies/findings/rambles/whatevers!!

The Tower Spell

For use when you need to catalyze the downfall of something destined to collapse. Like causing a ripple effect in a toxic job, or leaving an abusive relationship. This spell is designed to create a fast-acting domino effect that will inevitably be painful for those around it. However, I will argue that this spell is necessary - albeit difficult to cope with the aftermath.

Disclaimer: only cast this spell for yourself, and in dire circumstances. This is a final straw spell. I lost everything after this spell, but it was such a needed destruction of an old life.

Supplies

A crossroads key to represent opportunity, choice and consequence. I literally found mine at a crossroad, so if you only have a key, maybe take it to a crossroad and ask the energy of the place to charge it.

Red string to represent fate and Destiny.

A taglock for your situation or person

A candle in a color you feel represents speed - I used red

Herbs & other correspondences you feel appropriate. Phoenix symbolism might help in the rebuild process

And a -very- good backup plan because shit hits the fan FAST! If you are casting this spell for yourself, I'm going to warn you right now, I lost everything leaving an abusive relationship because of this spell. But I'm much happier now for it.

Thread your key on a length of red string long enough to put over your head, and tie it off

Encircle the card in the center of the loop you've made, making sure the key is INSIDE the circle.

Set your taglock atop your card, being sure to express the reasons you wish to catalyze the collapse. The Universe needs you to let out your desperation, because this spell is an act of sheer desperate measure.

Add any other spell components such as cinnamon for speed and intensity, but also for protection of yourself. Or bay leaf for manifestation. Or obsidian for the destructive power of fire. Up to you, just make sure to keep it symbolic.

Set your candle inside the circle, light it, and repeat your reasons for the spell. Express your need to the flame, and your desires to start anew.

Burn your taglock, or at least scorch it if you can. Blow out the candle like it's your birthday, finalizing your wish.

Wear the key on the string around your neck. Do not take it off until the collapse happens & you're in a safe place. It's meant to guide you through the chaos & ruin.

Buckle up, the next few days will be the hardest you could possibly imagine. But so very necessary, and more worthwhile than you'll ever realise. If things are destined to fall apart, you'll live through a war zone. Understand that you're not alone, and that you'll get through this.

Online grimoire entry for some tarot reading I did, if anyone finds it useful:

So last night was pretty rough for me, but not significantly worse than the rest of this year. But I was feeling this horrible negative energy in my room and I could have sworn an entity was standing in the corner where my phone was charging, as the cable had come unplugged multiple times and the negative aura was stronger there.

At first I put a paper towel down and sprinkled some cayenne pepper, as well as a broken safety pin, as those were what I had on me, and then very firmly told whatever the thing was to fuck off. It felt cathartic for a bit… but I could tell the thing was still in my room.

And it was Samhain, meaning it was a good time to practice my craft. So… I decided to light some candles and consult my tarot cards.

“What is in my room?” 5 of Pentacles. Well… that made sense. I’ve been financially struggling and I lost my job recently. So… I guess it was telling me I’m the problem?

“Is the negative energy coming from me?” King of Wands reversed. That’s a yes… but reversed it means I need to proceed with caution. It indicates that I have been working too hard and possibly hurting others. In my case, I feel like I might be hurting myself instead. Because I have been disregarding everything my body and soul have been telling me. I am disabled and I DO need more help than others. At my last job, I overworked myself so much that I got burnt out and couldn’t get out of bed, which resulted in me getting fired. I hated the job, and was only doing it because there were no qualifications and it paid decent money. TL;DR: I am indeed causing the negative energy because of my unhealthy relationship with finances.

“Will things get better?” The Devil reversed. No. And even worse… when it shows up in a reading with 5 of Pentacles it means I have been spending recklessly. Which is true. With my last paycheck from my last job, I’ve been buying DoorDash every few days in hopes of making myself feel less shitty. I enjoy the food, but it doesn’t snap me out of my depression. It just gives me the tiny boost of energy to be able to take a shower, or make my bed… maybe do a load of laundry if I’m feeling ambitious. I need to get better coping mechanisms. My reckless spending is a band-aid for the depression coma I’m stuck in.

“What do I need to do to change the way my life is going?” King of Chalices reversed. Common theme here: I have only been working for money and it has not been fulfilling. At this point, I had a major epiphany and finally got the motivation to finish writing my resume for a doggy daycare place. There were closer, possibly more convenient jobs… but this place is only a 12 minute drive. And I didn’t see myself being happy and fulfilled at the other jobs. I’m a huge animal person so this seemed like following my calling. I then completed the online application and attached my resume, and went to sleep with a plan to call the doggy daycare to follow up in the morning, when they would be open.

Flash forward to this morning: I consulted my cards for advice about the follow up call. I got The Emperor, upright. So I decided to be assertive, strategic, and confident in my abilities. I wrote down a script of everything that could possibly go wrong, and how to make myself sound reliable and trustworthy. I am autistic, and I definitely feel better when I plan ahead for things.

Finally called the place. Got an automated message saying to press 2 and they would call me back. Waited about an hour, then got the call. Very kind lady talked to me, answered all my questions and provided even more information about the job. Several green flags: high staff retention rate. Many people had happily worked there for 10+ years. All new employees receive in-depth training. And she told me not to worry about “preparing a laundry list of experience,” and that she had been there for 3 years and there was nothing to be nervous about. She asked for my email, and saved my phone number so she could contact the branch I applied for. When we hung up, it was 11:11 AND TODAY IS NOVEMBER 1. I AM FUCKING MANIFESTING SO HARD. IF YOU ACTUALLY GOT THIS FAR IN READING THIS I’D LOVE IF YOU LEFT SOME KIND ENCOURAGING WORDS IN THE NOTES AS WELL 🙏🙏🙏

I feel fucking amazing. I enjoyed working as a pet sitter before my last job, but I was literally being paid slave wages… less than $1 per hour :/ and government support was barely enough to get me through day to day life. RIIZE ENERGY CHECK ~ based on tarot

Note: Are they allowing me to do this reading ? (Temperance) that is a confirmed yes. The only member who was more private and didn’t share specific details was Seunghan, which is understandable !

Shotaro: alrrrrr it seems like as of late Shotaro has been putting more effort into taking care of himself and his wellbeing (KoP, QoC, The Empress) he may have recently recognize that he falls into intermediate work cycles that aren’t balanced (The Devil, 2oP Rx) of him working himself thin and pretty hard and then having a rest period but not really fully rejuvenating himself during the resting periods. (8oP, 4oS, QoP Rx, Temperance) also recently social life wise he may have a mature individual that he holds respect for and wants to better solidify their dynamic or add them into his social life (could be an earth sign) (4oW, KnoP, Strength) [channeled song Self Care Mac Miller]

Eunseok: hm so the energy is pretty chill here. Eunseok recently is still more comfortable and optimistic about his future with being in the kpop industry than he was during December. (3oW, 9oC, AoP) but he lowkey feels like other aspects of his life especially his social life is being lowkey hindered by it (3oC Rx, The Hermit.) he also might feel like he’s not pushing himself to his full potential (The Magician Rx) so recently he might be exploring or learning other talents and skills so he can be more satisfied with his abilities (7oC, PoS) the phrase “I’m good but I can always be better” is coming up, the energy doesn’t seem like he’s degrading himself so there’s no need to worry.

Sungchan: SO ! in my last energy check sungchan was excited for an upcoming project or event of sorts that was exciting for the members and briize this was before their recent promotions and after boomboombass promotions so maybe it was referring to their japanese release lucky ? for the recent reading he doesn’t have much to share (energy seems hectic or busy) . I do however think he’s planning or has a specific goal of sorts that he wants to execute after all of their traveling is over (The World Rx, 2oW, 7oP). He also might be feeling nostalgic lately or comparing how different his earlier days within the industry were vs how things are currently; it’s a more positive comparative energy however (6oC, 2oP, The Lovers) he also might be trying to befriend, hang out or collab with his seniors currently (KnoC, The Emperor, 3oP)

Wonbin: This reading’s energy was a bit strange because the energy doesn’t seem super fresh and might be more of an older thought or situation. There was a mental conflict he’s had (AoS Rx, 5oW, 2oS) he has a very particular opinion about how briize views his interactions with them, and he’s for some reason very concerned about whether or not he appears genuine or sincere it seems like he’s worried about being seen as fake or being misjudged (Judgment, 7oS Rx, KnoC Rx) However I do think he’s aware that this is essentially in his head and doesn’t reflect his actual connection with fans (The Moon, 2oC) It’s lowkey ironic that this theme came up around the time they do fancalls and the fancalls being reposted, maybe he’s focusing how he’s perceived .

Seunghan: This reading will be short and sweet because only 4 cards came out (Death, 8oP, 4oC, The High Priestess) hes in a state of contemplation and transition. He’s realizing that he needs to have better discernment and needs to build his prospects from the ground up, the phrase “if you keep carrying the same bricks you’ll build the same house again.” is coming up. With this realization and acceptance he can finally have an easier transition to the next phase he’s trying to reach, he may have a specific plan he’s following. He also could be being lead by a person (or multiple) who has the knowledge and discernment to guide him to a new prospect for his own benefit.

Sohee: He’s opened up recently and is giving more of his internal self to others (4oP Rx, 6oP, 8oS Rx, PoW, PoS, PoC) SOO MANY PAGE CARDS 😭. an event possibly around the winter time made him feel a need to wall himself up or to be more careful with how close he gets to people or how much of himself he should share (5oW, 5oP, 9oW) he isn’t secretive in a sneaky sense he just wanted to be more intuitive and selective of who he got close to. He also has a desire to be able to separate and divide between coworkers that he just works with and genuine friends and peers (The Lovers Rx, 7oW, 6oW) he possibly has realized that due to being an idol in itself can be a tumultuous journey he doesn’t have to endure it without support from outside the group (8oC Rx, 2oC)

Anton: He currently feels like he’s getting the full scope of benefits and struggles that comes with being an idol, he’s always essentially knew or had an understanding but now he’s beginning to fully see the dichotomies within the industry (The Sun, The Devil). hes very aware of how he’s being viewed in the media/online, the phrases “if you think I know, I most likely do” and “gotta be in the know to know.” he for sure has a general idea of how he’s perceived (KoS, PoS, 7oP, The Heirophant) However it doesn’t seem to be shaking the confidence he’s recently gained and some of it may even be adding to it (The Emperor, KoW). He might have a personal project or something that he’s working on solo that he may have to show or get reviewed by a higher up or someone with more experience (KnoP, KoP)

Youtube channels to learn Vedic astrology:

Farfaraway, Youtube - Learn the nakshatras and planets in nakshatras

Farfaraway has a really good playlist about the nakshatras and a generalized run down of what it means to have certain planet placements (in the nakshatras). He also discusses the stories behind each deity associated with them. I believe he also has a website although, I haven't looked into that yet.

Astrology Loka (Gina Lyhane), Youtube - Great all rounder: Basic vedic astrology, nakshatras, planetary placements, chart aspects, transits and predictions, and more

Gina has such a great Youtube channel that features many good videos pertaining to vedic astrology. She has videos on the nakshatras, meanings of the houses, transit analysis, sometimes she does case studies on celeb figures' charts. Overall, her channel is the best "all rounder" for vedic astro content.

Cooking Astrology, Youtube - Intermediate level videos on jyotish

This channel is particularly useful if you're starting to understand the basics of vedic astrology, and what to dive into more in-depth techniques/knowledge/tutorials. I find that his videos about the house axes are very interesting and help you to better understand houses in relation to each other (and not just as individuals). He also talks about yogas and has a good amount of videos discussing the D9 navamsa chart.

Picture Astrology, Youtube - Learn the placement of planets in particular houses/rashis

Great channel if you just want quick, generalized meanings about planets in a particular rashi or house. Their rahu-ketu videos are also quite insightful, in my opinion.

Dr Arjun Pai Astrology, Youtube - Advanced level lectures on nakshatras and other vedic topics

Dr Pai's videos on the nakshatras are great if you really want to deep dive into the meanings, significations, and interpretations of the nakshatras. Dr Pai and his team do such great videos telling us why a particular nakshatra is associated with certain characteristics. If you are a beginner, his videos might be overwhelming but I think it's helpful to listen to them like podcasts and absorb the info.

Astrology with Ninad, Youtube - Great videos on current transits and future predictions

I particularly like Ninad's videos on transits and upcoming predictions. It's useful to also listen to transits aimed at other rashis signs (other than your own), as it helps you to understand/learn how moving planets affect the chart.

Astro Urvasshi (Urvasshi Behla), Youtube

Vedic Oracle by Kadambari, Youtube

Both channels are great for learning about nakshatras, as well as some basic knowledge about vedic astro. Vedic Oracle (Kadambari) also does interesting transit analyses in which she combines jyotish and tarot.

one of the biggest questions i feel folks on tumblr are always trying to answer is "how do i be better? how do i get to the next level of witchcraft? how do i access advanced stuff?" and the thing is, babes, is that that shit isn't external.

you become an "advanced witch" when you stop categorising topics as beginner or intermediate or advanced! there are no rules.

a lot of people make an effort to warn so-called "baby witches" away from different types of magick - "don't do love magick or hexing ever! don't contact X deity until you've been practicing for a year! you have to have been practicing for at least a month to do a spell!" - why? what does that achieve, apart from perpetuating fear mongering and policing others religion?

it comes from this idea that there's a right way to practice, and more importantly, that if you fuck something up then that's sacrilege. if you give a deity the wrong offering they'll be angry with you (and that's the end of that relationship). if you do a love spell without considering the effects then you'll do irreparable damage and be shamed!! you must follow these ideas, that crystals and tarot and candles (conveniently all the things that require you to spend money) are "beginner-friendly" and everything that our ancestors would have done is too advanced for you.

whatever experience you're on is personal to you. no-one knows more than you about your practice than you. if you wanna do a hex, some post on tumblr shouldn't going to stop you. if you fuck it up, you'll learn!

and frankly, witchblr would be a better place if we stopped looking at everything as a strict guide to follow, and as a place where we all share what our practice looks like, and approach each other with curiosity instead of pride and superiority.

A crash course introduction post on me and my practice!

Hi friends! My name is Audra (she/her or he/him), I'm here to share my stories and meet other practitioners! I'd love to make new friends. I write a lot of longer content in storytelling musings as a form of worship and practice (link to my masterpost of all digital grimoire content).

Eclectic witch, omnist, and Norse/Hellenic polytheist—I've been a devotee to Loki for over two years now, and new devotee to Aphrodite! I worship these two for the most part, but just began deity work with Apollo and Ares. I believe that all spiritualities and religions have truth to various individuals, and that deities are energetic extensions of the Universe. So, basically, The Universe > Earth/Mother Nature > Deities > Spirit Guides/Familiars > Entities > Ghosts.

I also have two wolf familiars I work with gifted to me by my ancestors, they are my spiritual companions. The wolves have been with me since I was a kid! I've devoted my entire life to the wolf. The best term I've found for this is calling myself a wolf spirit worker, as I not only work with my two familiars, but have had contact with numerous wolf spirits over the years. I'm currently working on my animal communication and psychic skills with the wolf. The wolf is also my special interest.

Hello! I'm an intermediate (3 years of experience) tarot reader looking to get more experience, and would love to do a free reading for you!

I don't practice future telling of any kind, that's just my practice. That means I won't do soulmate readings, future readings, etc.

Mars Back Home

Fire Mars, on a good day: "Inside me, there's a blazing fire that fuels me to take on challenges and make life my bitch. I'm all about calling the shots and forging the path to my desires and doing it my way"

Why?- Ah, Fire Mars. In his own territory, he becomes quite the showstopper, doesn't he? When realized in his higher octaves, he can be caught blazing his way through life, transforming and alchemiz-ing any old obstacle on his way to what he wants. The element of fire represents transformation, oh! and fun fact, Mars used to be the ruler of Scorpio before Pluto took its rightful place as the lord, okay? That's a big deal because it gives us yet another insight into Mars' true nature and potential. He's in his zone, he's home. So let's really get to know him.

Us tarot whores out here (I'm one too, by the way :p) will let you know that the Wands suit in tarot pertains to the fire element. The King of Wands, a figure we can liken to the higher octave energies of Mars, is seen as a figure who has command over energies, meaning he possesses great potential for manifestation—the raw-hands-in-the-clay, creating his reality.
