How did you unironically reblog a post about callouts being bad on your callout blog?

You may want to sit down for this one because it will be long.

The point of this blog is not callout posts, and I have never made one. The two closest instances are:

Me saying "I find this person to have an unpleasant personality" in response to someone asking why I don’t like them

And

A post going over details of events that happened several years ago where my conclusion was that the person everyone else is currently dog-piling was not an active threat

Both of these have gotten me a significant amount of backlash rather than support. In the case of Patricia Taxxon, you could argue that my unbothered stance in comparison to the majority of the "Lily Crit Sphere" makes the idea that my post was intended as a callout post fairly silly. I have no desire to 'callout' Patricia. I have said several times that I have little to no opinion on her as a person. Not only is it a waste of time to do any kind of callout, there is nothing to call her out on. She is fully transparent about what has happened, and she even made a post about that. There is no awareness being raised here, because there's nothing new to be made aware of.

Taxxon, while she may have experienced some personal fallouts for it, is not being seriously hurt by the people drumming up controversy around her. Her (non-ask) posts regularly get hundreds or thousands of notes, significantly more than the 50 or so the biggest Lily Critical blogs get on average (and I do specify average, since there is some variance). It's the equivalent of throwing pebbles at an elephant; mildly annoying and nothing more.

In all my years I have never seen someone successfully take down a large content creator with a callout post or repeated stalking and harassment. Maybe a drop in their numbers or a reduction in content, but as far as removing them from the internet entirely, it's a fool's errand. Unless people like Lily make the decision to remove themselves from the public eye (and they likely won't), they will never go away.

I also personally do not consider it a victory to bully users off the internet, which is often what callouts and blogs like "Lily Crit" blogs exist for. If someone actually is an abuser, if they are truly doing terrible things, they will not stop those things even if their current pseudonym is taken down. People have influence outside of the internet, and people can make infinite accounts online to cause as much harm as they wish. On the internet, there is no such things as distance or identity.

The idea that there is some form of nobleness or goodwill to any of this is just a cover for what is really happening; people saw an easy target and took their shot. Going after Lily or Sparky is unquestionably punching down, and others likely assumed going after Patricia would be the same, only to find out this was not the case.

Hii!! I absolutely ADORE your animations but I keep seeing people use them without credits. I always ask them to put them, but if they don’t, would you appreciate them being sent to you for copyright claims or just ignore them?

If they're edits without credits even after asking then I'd say ignore it or leaving a comment crediting the original art/animation to me would be appreciated (that way people can still find the original video/artist if they're scrolling through the comments)

If they're reposts on youtube (no editing At All just a repost of the whole video) you can send me a link to them and I can make a copyright takedown request

In the end tho I'm mostly resigned to all that now for better or worse lol; at some point it just costs me more stress and energy to deal with those people than it does to ignore them. Tho I do appreciate that there's still folks like you looking out for me in that regard, and leaving a comment crediting me is probably good enough in most cases !

My goal is never to 'punish' people who neglect to credit, it's to make sure that those who come across those edits and don't know that the art is originally made by me are aware of who it's made by so they can find more of my stuff if they like it :)

Thinking about Jin Ling absolutely bored to tears by the fundamentals until he hears how beautifully Lan Sizhui plays and suddenly takes an interest (in the guqin, definitely the guqin, he’s interested in the guqin only, okay??)

Thinking about Jin Ling practicing outside of classes because he wants to impress Lan Sizhui by how much he’s improved and wants to make him proud and wants to see his face light up with a smile—I mean, what? No no no, he just wants to show initiative to learn, that’s all there is to it, nothing more. Nothing at all.

Thinking about Lan Sizhui finding Jin Ling asleep on his guqin after a night of wearing himself out with extra practice and gently waking him up to safely escort him back to his room so he doesn’t get caught by their seniors. Meanwhile, Jin Ling sleepily leans against him on the walk back to his room because it’s normal, he’s just tired, it’s obviously normal because Lan Sizhui slips his hand into his and smiles and Jin Ling’s heart feels like it’s on fire. Oh no.

Thinking about Jin Ling opening up to Lan Sizhui about his nightmares from all the trauma he’s endured and Lan Sizhui staying to play guqin for him until he falls asleep, each note chasing away every bad dream that tries to disturb him.

Thinking about them practicing guqin alone together the next day. And the day after. And the day after that—and they really are practicing but it’s a little hard to focus when Lan Sizhui keeps putting his hands over Jin Ling’s to move them to the correct strings, and Jin Ling’s face is a breath away from Lan Sizhui’s every time he leans over to help him.

It’s just guqin practice, that’s all there is to it, perfectly normal. 🩵💛

the first video nanami ever posted was filmed on a shaky phone propped up against a bag of flour.

he was making bread—simple, easy, the kind of thing he found comfort in after long days at work. his hands moved methodically, kneading the dough with a quiet precision, and though he spoke very little, the video was oddly calming.

he hadn't expected much from it. maybe a few views, maybe a couple of people who’d appreciate the lack of unnecessary chatter. but the comments were overwhelmingly positive, people asking about his technique, his recipe, his voice—deep, smooth, effortlessly steady. so he made another video. then another.

it was the late-night upload of him singing "baby one more time" by the marías that changed everything.

filmed on an old macbook with a grainy webcam, the lighting barely enough to make out his face, the video had been an impulse decision—one he almost deleted. it was just him, sitting on his couch, his voice low and hushed, the way he usually sang to lull yuuji to sleep. but the internet clung to it like ivy, twisting and reaching until the video had over a million views by the end of the week.

he thought it would pass. but it didn't.

his subscribers doubled overnight. the demand for more was loud, insistent. nanami, being nanami, didn’t rush to meet it. instead, he structured it into his routine: one video a week, a mix of baking and singing—because baking was reliable, and singing had never been something he shared outside of yuuji’s bedtime.

his channel evolved. the baking videos became polished, edited with subtle precision. he switched to voiceovers, explaining each step in that same low, deliberate tone that made people feel like he was speaking just to them. and when he sang, it was always songs that carried a quiet sort of nostalgia.

nanami never explicitly talked about being a single dad, but it was impossible to miss. yuuji’s voice sometimes made cameos in the background, muffled questions about homework, laughter when nanami burnt the edges of a cake. he didn’t hide it, didn’t play it up. it was just a part of his life, and his audience adored him for it.

his faq video—one of the few times he ever directly addressed personal questions—answered almost nothing.

the mystery only made people more obsessed.

people knew everything and nothing about him at the same time. they knew the exact ratio of brown sugar he preferred in cookies but not what city he lived in. they knew he tucked yuuji in every night with a song but had never seen his full face in a single frame. they knew the precise cadence of his voice when he said “and that’s how you make the perfect loaf” but had never heard him say “i love you”—and yet, somehow, they felt like they had.

the internet had fallen in love with him. and nanami, quietly, without even trying, had changed his life with nothing but flour-dusted hands and the sound of his own voice.

Who are you?

I'm Kiana, I'm a queer, Japanese Jamaican woman, and a Director/Storyboard artist who works in animation. I'm currently at Disney Television Animation.

What are your pronouns?

I usually go by she/her but I don't really mind any pronouns~

Where did you go to school?

California College of the Arts (but I dropped out when I was hired at Disney)

How did you get hired at Disney?

My bosses found me on twitter. They liked my drawing style and asked if I wanted to take a storyboard test. I did, I passed, I got interviewed and moved to LA two weeks later to start storyboarding.

Your work seems familiar. What do I know you from?

I've been on the internet for a long time! It could be a number of things. As maimai97 on dA I had a comic about next gen Pokemon characters called Pokemon 25 Years Later. As kilala97 I had some popular next gen ponies and also had a Steven Universe gemsona named Larimar. I'm also @yamujiburo, known most for drawing Jessie x Delia (hanamusa) a lot. I also work professionally! I've worked as a storyboard artist and director on Disney Channel's Big City Greens, I was a storyboard artist on one of the Steven Universe anti-racism shorts and I was a storyboard artist on Pokemon: Path to the Peak. Most recently I've been on season 6 of Dropout's Game Changer!

What program and brush do you use to draw?

Default brush in Storyboard pro. Photoshop sometimes just for compositing or specific effects.

What is this project?

This is a project that started off as a silly idea that has since grown into me creating a 10 minute pilot animatic.

What does "pilot animatic" entail?

It means that it's effectively a pilot/episode 1 of a (potential) larger series. It's fully voice acted but is not fully animated. It's an animatic, meaning it will be comprised of storyboards in video form.

When and where can I watch the pilot!?

Now and right here!

What would this series be rated?

Ideally like PG13/TV14! Or whatever they call it. Definitely more geared to a YA audience. Not completely kiddy but also not what most people would consider adult animation to be

What are you planning to do with the project now that the pilot has released?

Don't know yet! There has been a lot of studio interest and even offers, so I'm in the process of talking with them and seeing if I can find this show a home or if I want to try doing it on my own or if I want to even continue with it at all. I know you guys are curious, but even if I wanted to tell you I couldn't. Just trust that I will make announcements as they come~

You said Aika had teammates, will we see them?

Because of the studio interest and potential for more of this show, there's some stuff I'm still holding close to my chest. This is one of them.

Do the characters have parents??

Zira does! As for Aika and Eclipse, this is something I'm still developing and don't really know myself haha

What are the characters' sexualities?

Don't know right now. Headcanon away!

Is "Star Guardian: Guardian of the Stars" a reference to that vine?

Nope! It's more so a parody for just really long and redundant titles which I love. Similar to the title of this project, which is called "Pretty Pretty Please I Don't Want to be a Magical Girl"
