“you take the man out of the city, not the city out the man” (from End of Beginning by Djo)
bruce wayne.
when James Baldwin said “Perhaps home is not a place but simply an irrevocable condition” and Noah Kahan said “home as the first place that loves you, the first place that ruins you” and Hozier said “we’re born at night/the hardest part is who we are” and hozier said “so much of our lives is just carving through the dark” and hozier said “My life was a storm since I was born/ how could I fear any hurricane?” And Hozier said “I’d tell them put me back in”

Alternative fashion people who shit on others in the community for not getting their wardrobe exclusively from thrifting (or DIY), please listen.
NOT EVERYONE IS FROM A BIG COUNTRY WITH PROPER THRIFT STORES!!!
In Ireland we don’t have thrift stores we have charity shops. Same concept; people donate clothes for free and profits the shop make go towards charity. The issue is they are very very small. I see videos of (mainly) Americans in massive thrift stores with clothes for all ages and styles. Like you really can find good pieces there. And it’s of course cheaper than retail alt brands.
Our charity shops are like the size of an average bedroom. It’s takes you really not long to look around. The vast majority of clothes in there are from and for middle-aged and elderly women. The only kind of good selection they have is in old DVDs. But even then that depends on the shop. When I go “thrifting” all day, visiting 10 or more shops in a day, I’ll come home with maybe one pair of plain black jeans and two DVDs. It’s just not the same!
For certain styles it’s a bit easier. Also if you wear feminine clothing. If you have the DIY and sewing skills that’s great, maybe you can make it work. But please believe me when I say this island does not have goth/ emo clothes in charity shops.
The exceptions to this rule is the new “thrift” or “vintage” stores opening now in Dublin and other cities. Issue is, they’re not fucking thrift stores! They find “vintage” clothing, add their own tag to it, and sell it for €100-€200!! Also, the styles they sell are only the mainstream trending style at that time. Rarely anything alt. There is one store I believe in Dublin that has “vintage” alt clothing. But again, it’s overpriced, for feminine people, and usually small sizes.
Like correct me if I’m wrong! I know there definitely are ways of making it work. But as a chronically ill disabled person, I don’t have the energy or strength to DIY. Of course the mainstream stores that have cheaper clothes are an option for things like pants and stuff. But people demonise those stores due to their environmental impact and unfair labour. Which I of course agree with! So that leaves you to buying alt fashion online that’s more expensive but slightly more fairly made? And still cheaper than “vintage” stores.
I don’t know. Basically I just think you can’t really make blanket statements with these kinds of things. Your country may have the giant thrift stores, so you can be more environmentally friendly and ethical. But some people come from small places! Especially if you live in a small town/ the countryside. If there even is a charity shop, it’ll only appeal to your mum or granny.

I might not pin this because I'm a 𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴 with this blog and I prefer for this to be viewed as a collection of analysis and opinions, rather than a person as per se, however my friend made an introduction post and it was SO COOL and ever since I've been itching to do the same.
