olympics coming up…… athlete aus on the mind….. satoru as a swimmer….. unreasonably large wingspan…. huge hands..... thinks “official” competitions and tournaments are boring because he can’t use the goofy purple googly eyes goggles he likes to practice in…… practices at ungodly hours solely because he likes when the pool is empty because that means you’ll dip your feet in at the edge and be there to greet him with a kiss when he’s finished his laps….. they bring up the stats board and it’s just his name ten times before the next fastest person and he could still lap them, and even tho he’ll always put so much pressure on himself to be the best, it’s worth it to have you hold his face and tell him you’re proud of him... he’s gotten so much merch from events and sponsorships and he used to think they just created clutter but that all changes when you start to wear his clothes (esp the ones with his name on it… he’s not proud to admit that does Something to him)…. always looks up to the stands when he finishes a race and if he knows you’re not there, he looks right at the camera, draws an infinity sign with his fingers, and blows a kiss (which, some commentators routinely call “unsportsmanlike conduct” but he doesn’t care, and always, publicly says he’ll pay the fees if it means blowing a kiss to his girl at home)

I think it would really benefit people to internalize that mental illnesses are often chronic and not acute. Some of us will never be able to jump the hurdle of managing illness, much less sustaining a sense of normalcy. Many of us will never "recover," will never manage symptoms, will never even come close to appearing normal - and this is for any condition, even the ones labeled as "simple" disorders or "easy-to-manage" disorders.

It isn't a failure if you cannot manage your symptoms. It isn't a moral failure, and you aren't an awful person. You are human. There's only so much you can do before recognizing that you cannot lift the world. Give yourself the space to be ill because, functionally, you are.

It’s sad knowing that the excitable and flirty persona Terzo created might not have been entirely true. But. In a way, it’s also glorious?? Because he’s described as being mad at everybody, himself included, but he still very much actually cares about the well-being of others and has people whom he loves. He’s just gotten to a point of depression where he can’t embrace them in full. Probably a consequential extension from the self-hatred but hear me out.

He was the nicest Papa, according to the ghouls: He doesn’t really hang out with them but when he interacts with them, he treats them kinder than his predecessors ever did, and doesn’t seem to give them any reason to complain in interviews. And considering how much they’ll talk about, they would have jumped at the opportunity. If he gave them any reason to, that is. He genuinely seems to respect them.

He loves his mom. He loves kids. He might have a kid of his own whom he may not be able to be around too often, but does love them. He likes his brothers enough to play UNO with them. He calls out roughhousing ritual attendees if he thinks somebody could get hurt and is not afraid to put his foot down if he thinks they won’t listen.

Terzo is a sad but still fascinating and beautiful example of how you can be filled with so much anger and sadness and disappointment but still retain a sense of love and kindness in spite of it all.

some thoughts on Maelle, Clea, and the ending [full game spoilers]

The Endless Tower is the place where we get the most insight into who Clea is as a person and hear her perspective on what is going on through her appearance as the Fading Woman. The conversation below occurs only after you beat all 33 boss challenges inside the tower.

Clea thinks of her parents' squabble mostly as a nuisance, with both of them being in the wrong and not mature enough to have a proper conversation. Her main advice to Maelle (who's the only person able to converse with Clea here) is to not let anyone drag her into their problems.

Preceding the question of "wait, aren't you also in their mess, Clea, aren't you being kind of a hypocrite?" (a common trait for Maelle's siblings, perhaps), she explains that she's helping rather than being dragged in.

The most important thing she says is that Maelle must not allow anyone to control her choices. The mistakes of their parents are their own; the worst mistake that Maelle can make is to allow their actions to influence the path she takes.

The way she talks about it here makes it look like she isn't helping Renoir because she thinks he's right, but rather to even the odds. The war with the Writers is called her solitary war, and she may prefer to conduct it alone, so she is not doing anything to speed up the resolution of the conflict.

UPD: a few people informed me that she says she needs Renoir's help with the war during Alicia's flashback. I'd feel weird just cutting the above paragraph out, though, so it stays. Plus we don't know how much time has passed in the real world between the flashback and the events of the game, things may have changed etc.

The final boss of the Tower is Painted Love, a representation of Renoir and Aline, the Curator and the Paintress. By beating them, Maelle could be implied to have surpassed her parents, now able to forge a life of her own.

Clea doesn't care what Maelle chooses to do, as long as the choice is her own.

At the very end of the conversation, Clea gives Maelle the white ponytail hairstyle that's meant to remind Maelle she's in control of her life, and nothing is as important as leading the life she enjoys.

That's also the hairstyle Maelle wears during the epilogue to the Life to Paint ending.

So... Maelle ending got Clea's seal of approval?

Of course Fox likes Luke. He loves Luke. The kid is kind, brilliant, devoted, all of that. Fox loves Luke, and he wishes that he and Leia could've known each other their whole lives.

He is also, secretly, extremely grateful about only having to raise one of the twins, because Leia has already made him even grayer than working on Coruscant ever did, and Luke is giving her a run for her money. And she has a lot of it.

Rottmnt! Leo and TMNT 2012! Leo meeting in my head would only go one way:

Rottmnt! Leo, who grew up without the weight of being the leader or the pressure of being the "perfect" role model, finds himself in a new position as leader. While he’s naturally good at it, he’s not as practiced as TMNT 2012! Leo, who has spent his whole life carrying that responsibility. His brothers admire TMNT 2012! Leo's seriousness, his leadership skills, and the way he’s always in control. Rottmnt! Leo can’t help but feel that that Leo is everything he should’ve been—a better leader, the one who could keep everyone safe and make the right choices, and maybe even the one Splinter would have preferred, since everyone says TMNT 2012! Leo was always Splinter’s ”favorite.”

Meanwhile, TMNT 2012! Leo looks at Rottmnt! Leo, and he sees this version of himself who didn’t have to bear the burden of being the responsible one, the weight of constantly having to be perfect. He sees how his brothers love and admire Rottmnt! Leo’s carefree attitude, his ability to goof off and be himself, and wonders if they’d prefer that side of him too. He wishes he could have been like that—just a brother who’s fun to be around, someone who is loved for who he is, not just seen for what he does.

At the core, though, they’re both Leonardo. They both feel that their worth is tied to how useful they are, how perfect they can be for their family. They both believe that in order to be good brothers and leaders, they need to be flawless. And in each other, they see what they think they need to be more like: Rottmnt! Leo sees the disciplined, capable leader he believes he should become, while TMNT 2012! Leo sees the fun-loving, carefree brother he could have been if he didn’t have to be the "other parent.”

And this all leads to feelings of envy, jealousy, and, of course, friction between the two. They both struggle with the idea that the other version of themselves has something they wish they had—and it makes them question if they’re ever truly good enough as they are.

I know a lot of people are upset with how the Trojans are acting towards Jean's trauma, and I get that it's difficult to see when we know everything he has gone through, but it's not just that they don't know anything about Riko, the Nest, the mafia. Jean is actively hurting himself, having panic attacks, saying concerning things, the other Raven's have started commiting suicide. Jean is digging his fingers into his neck so hard he's bleeding, expecting the coaches to beat him with his racket, his notebooks are destroyed with whore traitor etc written in big black letters, his body is covered in scars, he came to them still severely injured 2ish months after the incident, has extreme disassociation moments. Like not only are they college kids who don't know what they are doing/what's even going on, they are also basically on suicide/self harm watch with Jean and are trying to prevent him from causing damage to himself mentally and physically. And by the end of TSC they have definitely changed their approach. When Jean comes back from dealing with Neil right after the Grayson attack Jeremy says to him “Tell us what you need from us.” and Jean tells them what he needs and they accept that
