OKAY- so im watching pd ( i just finished the last episode of season one i know im a little behind lol) and i was reading comments and i saw someone say (of course i cant find it now) that they liked that over time the logo at the start got progressively more cracked as the boys went through harder stuff. first of all I AM SO MAD I DIDNT COMPREHEND THIS AT FIRST like yeah i noticed it got more cracked but it didn’t even register that it was on purpose😭😭 but this is SO COOL OH MY GOD- i have screenshots of some of the episodes so yall can see what i mean . im going to put what episode there from under them.. my mind is blown and yall need to see this

EPISODE 24‼️ JUST LOOK AT IT AHHH- the colors are muted, shit flying everywhere, not to mention the music and how it was slowed and muffled a ton UAH- (it scared the shit out of me at first lol) and the episode itself?? i nearly cried lol “i would let the world burn before id watch my friends die” SHIVERS “its all right guys- i had a feeling it would go like this.. but you guys are safe.” IM CRYING. can we just talk about how kenji has one of the Most tragic abilities in bungou stray dogs??? like. the more i think about it, the more heartbreaking it is.

he's fourteen years old and has an ability people would die/kill for. in s3, chuuya called kenji the ada's "trump card", so it's safe to assume the rest of the port mafia thinks the same way. he is immune to literal bullets, to being whacked in the head by hard metal or pretty much anything, he can easily lift cars above his head as if they were nothing,,,

but only if he's hungry.

if you ignore that last bit, kenji has one of the best powers in the show. and like he still does, but my God. he's fourteen years old. he doesn't think his ability is all that impressive. he doesn't see the issues.

since he has a job, he probably doesn't Really eat lunch, and if he does, it's snacks. but also his job is a part of the armed detective agency. therefore, things happen all the time. who knows how long cases will run, who knows when someone will try to destroy yokohama or the agency or whatever. there's been many times when it's been clear that they've had to work into the night. then we have to ask: does kenji eat dinner? no. probably not. and if he does, he probably just eats a piece of fruit or something small. that way, he doesn't lose his ability. he is the agency's trump card, after all. and he knows how important his power is. i mean, that's one of the reasons he joined ranpo and the others when they went against fukuzawa's orders in s3. it's not explicitly stated, but i'd argue that it's implied. anyways. does kenji eat breakfast? well, i don't think so. why? he sleeps when he eats. why sleep so soon after he just woke up? he has to go to work, anyways. so he can't fall asleep.

so, we've basically established that kenji probably has an extremely unhealthy eating schedule due to his ability. but also,,, what about his sleeping schedule? what kind of relationship does he have with sleep? so, let's say he eats a full meal three times a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. let's say how long he sleeps depends on how much he ate... so let's say that a small snack is no sleep since it's barely anything, just maybe makes him a little physically weaker. and a normal meal is at least an hour. that's at least three hours of sporadic sleep during the day - one of them shortly after he wakes up. but you know what makes that even sadder? what if kenji doesn't sleep at night because of his ability. or, sleep consistently or well? we can assume the agency actually really wants kenji to eat, even if he falls asleep, so on days when he can't get away with not really eating, he sleeps during the day for an unspecified amount of time. his sleep schedule would get so thrown off. also, he was raised on a farm, so we can assume he wakes up really early anyways. maybe early enough to say that there isn't any reason to sleep because he would wake up soon normally anyways.

and... what if kenji can't sleep without eating? what if kenji has to eat to sleep? maybe it wasn't that way when he was younger, but the older he got, the more his body grew to rely on his ability's exception. like... that's just... really sad. this kid is fourteen.

and think about it. the agency is best friends because they are. they'd probably like to go out to lunch or dinner together. i bet half the time at least, kenji wouldn't eat. why? because he'd fall asleep. wouldn't want to ruin the fun. because then they'd have to watch their volume around him or try to wake him up (and i hc that it's really hard to wake him up for like... the first ten minutes after a meal at least - it gets easier the longer he's been asleep or the less he eats). and what if they can't wake him up? then someone would have to carry him back and that's so kind of them but, well, they didn't have to and now kenji feels like a liability or a burden. like he ruined all the fun.

and he works with the armed detective agency. they've got a lot of enemies. he is the trump card. the physically strongest on the team. also the most naive and, objectively, the kindest. oh and one of the two youngest. can you imagine how vulnerable he is when he sleeps? i would imagine the agency wouldn't want him to eat by himself in public for, you know, safety reasons. and that even includes the cafe downstairs. who knows what could happen if kenji fell asleep on his own? and that's probably why he went to eat with atsushi in s1 ep11: he was with atsushi so he could eat out. one of those rare chances. and if an enemy did get to him while he was asleep, he'd be pretty easy to keep out of it: just keep forcing him to eat. shove food in his mouth, force him to swallow. and there you are: you have the armed detective agency's trump card. and kenji knows this.

and the sad thing is? kenji probably doesn't even realize he's having problems. he probably thinks this is normal. something he just has to deal with - and i don't say that in a negative or self-loathing kind of way. a genuine "it's always been like this; i know nothing else" kind of way. he wants to help people: that's why he came to the agency. he couldn't handle not being able to help everyone back home. he needs to be useful, to help. he grew up on a farm: he values hard work a lot - that much is obvious. he feels like he can't help if he eats consistently. he's probably (albeit subconsciously, unknowingly) scared of what would happen if he did eat and sleep consistently. that means he's not useful, right? that means someone will get hurt because of him. he'd rather starve than someone else get hurt. he was given this ability, he has to use it to help people.

tldr: kenji's ability is so interesting and underutilized in the the manga/anime and in the fandom and is so overlooked in angst potential. his ability most likely has ruined his eating and sleeping schedule to the point where he doesn't know anything different and genuinely thinks it's healthy because it's what he's always done, it's what he was blessed with, right? kenji deserves more love in canon and by the fandom <3

Eddie blows smoke out the window as they drive, and Steve tries to keep his eyes on the road. With anyone else, that task would’ve been easy—Steve’s a real stickler for safety, plus his car is like his baby, and if anything happened to her he might as well die, too. 

That’s dramatic, but still. 

Eddie’s different. Steve couldn’t ignore him if he tried, and trust him, he fucking tries—especially racing down the highway in the middle of the night. It’s just impossible—those long, dark curls framing his face, his slump into the seat and spread of his knees, the tattoos that litter his arms like he has quilted limbs. Steve never knew a man could be so beautiful, and that scares him, but not enough to keep him away. He’s so drawn to it all—the bad boy, town pariah, nerdy charm. It’s like Robin and Nancy had a baby and it’s Eddie, which is sort of weird but mostly like a death trap. It's like the universe created him specifically, scarily specifically.

How could Steve not like him? How could Steve not want to jump his bones—press him into any flat surface and—

God, Steve wants to kiss him. Badly. He’s sure he’s never wanted to kiss someone so bad. Everyone he’s ever been interested in kissing has been equally interested in kissing him—it wasn’t exactly difficult back in the days of high-school and being “Mr. Popular.”

Now it feels insurmountable, like Steve’s standing at the bottom of a cliff he has to scale in order to reach Eddie “the freak” Munson at the top, a feeling he never would’ve anticipated having, ever. Certainly not until Dustin had introduced them, insisting they’d get along and being right beyond measure.

They got along too well.

“Eyes on the road, Stevie.”

Steve turns quickly back to empty highway, despite his reluctance. He can feel Eddie grinning at his side profile, the arrogant bastard. This has been happening a lot lately—Eddie catching him. Steve would feel more embarrassed about it if Eddie really said anything, or called him out, but no. Just that stupid little grin like his ego’s swollen ten sizes. Part of Steve would prefer Eddie said something so he knew whether or not he stood a fucking chance.

“I don’t know if you know this,” Eddie continues, surprising Steve, because he rarely continues, “But you’ve been giving me the eyes, lately.” 

Steve’s grip tightens on the wheel, he adjusts his hands, and then he tries to relax. They do need to talk about it. No matter how awkward it is, it’s only fair. At the very least, Steve wants to keep being friends with the boy, so as long as they have an open and honest discussion—

“Pull over.”

Steve’s brows furrow. He looks over at Eddie, but Eddie’s just staring out the window at the spanning corn fields. He flicks his cigarette out.

“Ed, we’re in the middle of—”

“Pull over.”

Eddie’s still not looking at him. Steve sighs.

“What are we doing?” Steve questions, popping open his car door, because whatever’s going on, it seems like Eddie wants to be out for it. He walks around the front, taking a deep breath of sweet, night air. He can faintly smell cigarette smoke, definitely Eddie, but for the most part, it satisfies his lungs like a cool glass of water. He rounds the front, and leans up against his BMW next to Ed, who’s got his arms crossed and is still not looking in Steve’s direction.

“I know that I’m giving you… the eyes, or whatever,” Steve says, itching to break the silence, “I just thought—” He cuts himself off with a sharp gasp as Eddie turns, caging Steve in against the car, their hips flush together and their foreheads bumping just soft enough that it doesn’t hurt. Steve wants to play it cool, but there’s absolutely no saving himself from reaching beneath Eddie’s vest and clenching his fingers in that dorky Hellfire t-shirt. He nearly swallows his tongue as the hand that’s not bracing Ed against the car slips two fingers through one of his belt loops.

“Tell me no,” Eddie mutters, still not looking at him.

He’s eyeing Steve's mouth, instead.

Steve begins to pant—absolutely mortifying considering Eddie’s done nothing but move to share space with him. His chest and shoulders heave with breath, and his mouth has gone so dry, he feels like he just woke up from a bender. He watches Eddie intently, anticipating, aching.

“I can’t,” he whispers.

The distance between them closes and Steve is pulling relentlessly on that shirt, desperate to be closer to Eddie than he already is which would be impossible unless Steve literally crawled beneath his skin. Eddie’s hand, which had been the only thing stopping Eddie’s body from completely crushing him against his BMW, moves to angle Steve’s chin—a move which lights Steve’s entire body on fire, because never once has he been corrected while kissing. Never once had a girl had the audacity to tell him what to do, how to be, and Steve is realizing now he craves that—that mindless direction.

Tell me what to do and I will do it. Make me good for you.

Eddie’s only kissing him and is somehow awakening his most severe desire.

When they break the first time, they’re both breathless. Eddie presses firmly into Steve’s body and it hurts with his back awkwardly pinned against his car, but he would not have Eddie anywhere else in the world. In fact, he hopes it continues to hurt for the rest of his life so this moment is permanently etched into his skin like a festering bruise.

“I honestly didn’t think this would go so well,” Eddie admits. Steve’s eyes flick down to those soft lips—the ones that taste like nicotine and spit, not overtly pleasant but so, so addictive.

“Kiss me again.”

“You got it, big boy.”

So I've wanted to participate in Inktober for a really long time now, but always knew I wouldn't be able to finish it to my liking (or at all without dying lbr) in only a month. Still, it seemed like a great exercise in traditional art, composition, and emphasizing quantity + pace over "perfect" – all areas I especially wanted to improve on at the beginning of the year. Around February I decided to Just Do It and simply spread the challenge throughout the rest of 2023, with the deadline being December 1st. And now I have everything done! 21 characters I like from various things and 10 random originals, one to post til New Year's Eve :9
