I've been thinking about this for a long time and I'm really curious, but I'm not that sure. You're way better at this type of stuff, so I wanted to ask you.

Ok, so-

If Eva did NOT become pregnant with Vivienne and did NOT have a romance with Justin and if she wanted to leave Elfhame (because the faeries were cruel to her and she's a human there, even if she's Madoc's wife) would Madoc let her leave?

I think that he'd probably beg her to stay and swear that he'd kill anyone who dared to hurt her, but what if she was really insistent on going home?

I think he'd let her leave in the end, even if he was heartbroken, but I really want your take on this

OKAY. so Eva and madoc. First of all: can we just picture madoc, glamoured to be a human (and looking terribly uncanny) but also courting Eva in the 80’s/90’s. 😛

This pic is from Taryn’s novella, and it’s her take on madoc and Eva’s relationship. We don’t know if it’s canon or not, bc how would Taryn know, she could just be assuming.

but i imagine that madoc was better than vivienne in the sense that he told Eva early on what he was.

Edit: I’m not sure he could’ve hid it very well. Madoc is a goblin, his skin is green and i always assumed he was pretty giant. can you IMAGINE how his glamoured human illusion would’ve looked lmao. scary! But also sexy (sorry)

It’s pretty much stated above that Eva knew he was different, that he smelled of blood and scared her family and friends.

but for whatever reason, she looked past the red flags and loved him more for it (ig we know where jude gets her delusion from)

anyway, seems like she vastly underestimated how her life would change upon being whisked away to elfhame, bc she soon became homesick and left, burning his house down and a pregnant human corpse in its wake.

Eva seems to me to be used to getting what she wants, according to Taryn’s pov and based on how madoc has described her, she was beautiful and clever and cheerful. Lots of fun. She didn’t like dwelling on the past.

she sounds a lot like vivienne. But also like jude in Taryn- willing to risk everything for happiness.

anyway, imo, it was clear that she wasn’t gonna be happy in elfhame, and cling to whatever familiarities she could. Including another human man.

Now idk if she loved Justin. I assume she did, and maybe loved his attention too. Whereas madoc could only be there with her briefly before leaving her. (I assume she came to love Justin, as they had kids together and she helped him sell shit on eBay)

I saw someone once say that she left bc she was afraid of madoc finding out abt their affair which could make sense, but idk. The fae aren’t often monogamous, BUT, Eva is a human, and the way Taryn describes, he sounds like a traditional sort of husband. He probably expected her to remain monogamous despite being around the fae.

BUT. We also don’t know if she was even seeing Justin at this point. She could’ve started seeing him after she left. Maybe he followed her back home bc he was in love with her. who knows.

Now onto the ask:

(I misread the ask and finished the analysis so the first half is me answering if Eva were in fact preggo w Madocs baby and wanted to leave, but the other half is if she wasn’t preggo and wanted to leave- SORRY)

this is interesting, and i have thought about different ways madoc may react to Eva and her feelings,

but… if Eva were pregnant with his child, and she wanted to leave him, idk, i think he MAY allow it, but im sure he’d insist on still being a part of the child’s life.

In the darkest part of the forest, another holly black book in the tfota universe, there is a changeling boy named jack. he’s fae and his bio family and him still communicate, all while he lives w his human family too. i think that would be like how vivienne would’ve grown up should madoc have allowed Eva to leave.

Madoc is very devoted to family, and i don’t think he’d just knowingly allow Eva to be miserable as his wife in elfhame. i think he would let her leave, maybe he’d be devastated, bc in his words “his life was reduced to ash”(especially seeing as he cannot lie, Eva and vivi were his whole life to him) when the mortal woman’s remains were left at his estate.

you’re right abt him sorta freaking tho, stomping around threatening to hurt anyone that may hurt Eva, mirrors how he was when jude actually was hurt in tcp.

i think he’d be like that, SAYING how he would fix the problem, but not actually LISTENING to Eva or her wants and needs.

but i doubt he’d allow her to be miserable in elfhame. maybe he’d be blind to it at first, but eventually see Eva’s pain: that’s kinda how i assumed their canon relationship was. him leaving for war and not knowing how much Eva missed him and didn’t want him to leave her alone.

Edit: madoc seems kinda air headed lmao. he was oblivious to how jude was being treated, and i assume he was oblivious to however Eva was being treated as well.

it took great lengths for madoc to understand human nature, even with his human daughters, he was still learning more and more after the exile, and in the prisoners throne, when surens human sister was in elfhame.

but he allowed Taryn to marry Locke, knowing that it was a betrayal to her family, knowing that she would be miserable. He allowed her to choose her own life, even if he didn’t agree or want it. (It is to be noted that he could’ve just allowed Locke to marry Taryn bc Locke gave him the ghosts true name for it)

But Taryn is his daughter while Eva was his wife; maybe he wouldn’t have shared those reservations? he also may not have known at this point to allow Eva her own happiness and life choices. maybe he learned that from Eva after she left him.

Now I’m not entirely sure if he would allow Eva to leave WITH Justin. like if he found out that him and Eva were gonna raise vivi together in the mortal world. i don’t think he’d allow that, not for jealousy reasons (entirely), but bc i don’t think he’d want his former human worker to raise his daughter.

in his eyes, his daughter is of high status and is his own blood.

Madoc is a man of honor and of high status, it looked bad for him to have his blacksmith steal his wife and child away and brag about it. Maybe he would’ve let them leave, but in typical faerie nature, Justin probably would’ve met a cruel end. (turning into a rock, or mermaids plucking his eyes out, or some terrible fae misfortune)

that end could’ve also been of madocs hand or not, (i recall in twk when someone sent rubies to the injured courtier to gain cardans favor) maybe someone that wanted madoc to owe him would’ve sought out Justin to attain some power over madoc, for killing the man that stole his wife and child away from him.

and if this were public knowledge in elfhame, meaning that if Eva publicly left him for the mortal world, I’m not sure it would take long for some sort of revenge to take place. The fae dont like when humans one up them. or steal from them.

OKAY onto the ACTUAL ask: Would madoc have let Eva leave if she WASNT preggo and Justin wasn’t in the picture?

tbh, i think he’d really work to try to make her stay. He’d probably shower her with riches and luxuries and everything she could’ve wanted. but obviously, madoc cannot help what he is, and if faced with the choice: rekindle marriage w human woman he loves OR go to war for the high king to sate his bloodlust … well.

(This also sets the scene for madoc x oriana in future books. Madoc is no longer the grand general. He has blood lust to sate, sure, but no longer can he go out and just murder. i think he can finally be happy with oriana)

im not entirely sure. i dont think he’d give up his position as grand general for Eva. Despite him saying that “his life was reduced to ash” when Eva and his baby were “burned alive” im not sure. he craved power over family, we see it time and time again.

(Edit: madoc MAY have given it up. He didn’t for jude. But she’s not blood, she’s Justin’s child. Maybe he loved Eva more than he loved her. Harsh, but that’s how the fae are. That’s how cardan is with jude imo. No one else but her.)

madoc literally stabbed jude to be high king, BUT in his eyes, he also did it for oak? He also later says in the prisoners throne that “if it were not for all of my mistakes, i would not have the family i do now”, so pretty much he views his treatment of his family as a mistake, but is happy that he has them, so he’s come to terms w the fact that he killed his wife and her husband, and also stabbed Jude and stuff.

ugh. he’s terribly complex so i don’t really know. But like i said, he did allow Taryn to go w Locke. he also allowed vivienne to come and go from the mortal world, to do as she pleases. he allowed oak to be half raised in the mortal world and also elfhame. he seems to do what he thinks is best for his family to be happy, so long as they align with his goals and don’t get in the way of his plans.

The madoc we saw from Jude’s pov during her life, would probably allow Eva to leave, but the madoc that did not have the familial experience, maybe? We have no way of knowing how different Eva’s madoc and Jude’s madoc are. If that makes any sense at all. it’s complicated lol.

what i mean is that Madoc learned a great deal from Eva leaving him. but before that, when his wife and child died and he mourned them. and then he found them alive and with another man. those things change a person. grief changes people. so does betrayal.

but madoc once did say that he wasnt particularly changeable ? yeah i mean overall i think he would’ve let Eva leave, bc he loved her and wanted her to be happy, even if he didnt understand that humans would risk much for happiness. maybe he acknowledged that she was not happy in elfhame but thought she would get over it?

Asha did once say that humans get homesick in elfhame. maybe he thought the same, maybe he thought it would pass.

if he let her leave he probably would’ve kept an eye on her, him or his spies. To keep her safe from his opps who probably would’ve loved to use Eva against madoc. they have dark romance potential (sorry) but like imagine stalker madoc (sorry) 😍

random add on after looking at the ask: I’m not sure Eva was TOO poorly treated in elfhame. she had a high status, higher than the twins, and yeah they were treated like shit but privately yk. bc everyone feared madocs wrath. and if she got sick of elfhame maybe her and madoc could’ve continued their relationship off of the isles of elfhame? Madoc coming and going while she lived her normal life? some characters (human and faeries in relationships) do that in other holly black books. even tho they age and will eventually die. not sure madoc would like that tho. i can see him sparing himself the agony by not seeing her at all.

Wooly's design

Wooly's design bugs the heck out of me.

Like it's not a bad design, let's get that out of the way first. This isn't criticism (technically) but hear me out.

First off, something I've noticed that has bugged me ever since I noticed and now I cannot unsee it is the fact that Wooly's whole color scheme is mostly grayscale. In universe, Wooly is the main character of a children's cartoon series, supposedly aimed at preschoolers. Usually, character's aimed at young children are very colorful. There is at least some hint of color on them. Even if it's just an accessory or something. Let's take this a step further and mention Dora the Explorer's cast. You know, the show Amanda is BASED on.

Do you... NOTICE SOMETHING HERE?! Yeah, everyone here is COLORFUL. There is not a hint of dark colors in sight.

It makes Wooly stand out in an odd and somewhat uncomfortable way. He stands out during bright and colorful backgrounds when the show is usually cute and friendly. Like in the kitchen in the first tape. In hindsight, this could've been one of the first of many hints that something was off with this show. I'm pretty sure this design choice was intentional. I mean, it wouldn't be too difficult to give Wooly some sort of colored accessory. Or heck, most animals in kids shows aren't realistically colored to begin with. He could've been peach pink or something. What I'm saying is it wouldn't be hard.

Second thing. Wooly's body is literally a CIRCLE. It looks so so off.

Like from an anatomical standpoint... bro has NO NECK his arms come out of like... the middle of his body. Which again, he stands out in a weird way because every other Amanda the Adventurer character has a design that makes anatomical sense in some way. Like I'm not saying they are all realistic but like from an artistic standpoint you could visualize the bone structure and whatnot... well except for the meatman... : | ... hmmm.... Like he almost stands out more in the second game when we meet Joanne and the opossum! And like it's not even a sheep thing so idk what it is!

What I'm trying to say is compared to all the other characters and considering the context of the story Wooly's design stands out in a very uncanny way. Which considering how his character also sticks out like a sore thumb I think it's intentional. Technically, Wooly didn't really do anything all that terrible in the first game and yet so so so many people noticed something was off.

I was going to save this for another post but you know what? Heck I'll leave it here. As much as I find Wooly to be a very interesting character to watch and write and all that... I have never been able to like him as much as I like Amanda. I feel like we connect more with characters like Kate and Joanne and even the opossum then we ever get to with Wooly. Personally, it could be a me thing. I always find these types of characters very interesting whilst never getting attached. I think it just has to do with the fact you know he's hiding something. You KNOW he's not being truthful. I think the only tape I actually liked his character in was the We Can Fix It Tape. Because for once in that tape it felt like a wall had come down, just a little, only for it to shoot right back up in the final tape. IDK I guess I'm like that with people irl too. I get very uneasy around people when I never know what they are thinking... Open-communication is very important to me ig. I do honestly love fan-interpretations of those walls coming down so so much. But in-game I feel like there's always a sense of distance that maybe Wooly actually puts between himself and the audience intentionally for his own reasons.

I think it is a combination between his design and the walls that really makes it clear that he's not being entirely truthful or open... like nearly ever. Which is a neat contrast to Amanda who never seems to hide anything mostly.

Can you write a Theo x reader that’s super angsty. Here’s what I’m thinking; Theo is a death eater (forced to be by his father.) and y/n is a slytherin but joined dumbledores army with the golden trio. So it’s like they’re fighting on opposite sides- theo believes he can feed the other side information and work as a spy sort of like snape. Maybe something where during the battle at hogwarts where they find each other/ someone’s hurt etc. or Theo is found out as a spy and gets tortured or something. I need a solid cry. “Ooh, Y/N,” Theodore waggles his eyebrows with a silly grin. “Love the outfit. You should wear my clothes more often.”

“God, I am trying to eat my breakfast,” Harry grumbles, pretending to gag.

You stick your tongue out at him and smooth out the front of your sweater, the one you ‘borrowed’ from Theodore’s trunk. You move past Harry’s chair, ruffling his hair as you pass, and head towards the kitchen to help Tonks and Mrs. Weasley clean up breakfast.

The Order had retreated once more to 12 Grimmauld Place as Death Eater attacks began to grow nearer and nearer every day. Theodore Nott, a Death Eater defector (can someone even be a defector if they never supported the cause in the first place?) was hiding out with the Order, as the group’s informant and spy.

Ron shot Theo a dirty look, frowning. It was no secret that the Trio didn’t fully trust Theodore, even despite his Unbreakable Vow to the cause. “Pass me the butter?”

Theo schooled his features into a neutral, impassive expression, sliding the butter dish across the table.

“Thanks,” Ron mumbled tersely, not meeting his eyes.

Theo nodded stiffly in acknowledgment. “Uh, anyways, there’s another meeting today. I’ll be gone this afternoon, but I should be back by this evening.”

“Meeting? There’s not supposed to be another meeting,” Remus Lupin looked up from his copy of the Prophet, eyebrows furrowing.

“No. But those Eaters that got arrested yesterday? In Diagon Alley?” Theo reaches over the table to tap to front page of Remus’ newspaper, where a large headline proclaims ‘TEN DEAD—Five Death Eaters Arrested’. “Ol’ Moldy Voldy’s pissed.”

Remus grimaces. “Should we se-”

An uncomfortable tugging sensation settles on all of the occupants’ bodies, the fizz of magic snapping and popping filling the air.

Sirius, with a piece of toast halfway in his mouth, looks up, startled. He mumbles something around his bite of food, dropping his toast and standing up.

“What was that?” Harry asks, reaching for his wand.

“The wards,” Sirius says anxiously. “Somebody’s here. Somebody with ill intent.”

As if on cue, the back door of Grimmauld slammed open, the doorframe splintered and cracked with the force of it.

You jump to your feet, wand in hand, ready to run in guns ablazing. But Theo shoves you behind him, his fingers curled tight into the fabric of your sweater to keep you from running back out into the fray.

In the doorway stands a large figure, swathed in black with a terrifyingly uncanny inhuman mask. The figure wastes no time in raising their wand, firing off a quick Crucio at Harry, who tumbles to the ground immediately.

The figure is joined by three other monstrous forms, who shove past them with alacrity. The four figures are immediately engaged in a frantic fight, ending with one of them being hit over the head by Tonks with a baseball bat portkey, two of them being Stupefied, and the last one standing menacingly in the center of the wrecked kitchen, holding their side where they’re actively bleeding from a well-aimed Sectumsempra from Harry.

You’d never seen anything like that spell before, and you watched the effects in fascinated horror.

The figure sinks to its knees, coughing loudly. It hastily pulls off its mask, wet blood dribbling from its mouth and running down its- his chin.

In front of you, Theo stiffens, his fingers clenching in your sweater.

“Theodore,” the man on the floor rasps, grinning maniacally as he hacked out more blood. “Traitor.”

“F-father-”

The man scrambles for his wand. “The Dark Lord sends his regards. Avada Kedavra!”

Theodore falls to the floor with a loud thunk, his body limp and empty. You drop to your knees beside him. It’s loud. Someone’s screaming.

You realize it’s you.

You desperately cup his face in your hands, trying to get him to wake up, to say got you! and laugh.

But he remains still.

You can barely tell that you’re frantically muttering every healing spell you know.

It’s no use.

You feel a heavy hand rest on your shoulder. Looking up, you can vaguely tell through your tears that it’s Ron, his bright red hair acting as a beacon. Ron shakes his head slowly. He says something, you can see his lips moving, but no sound comes out. Your head feels underwater; everything seems distorted.

You grip Theodore’s hand (so cold, so dead) in yours, sobbing out pleas to Merlin, to Salazar, to God, to whoever is out there.

It’s too late.

He’s gone.

“Anyways, there’s another meeting today. I’ll be gone this afternoon, but I should be back b-”

“Theo!”

He falls silent, looking up at you, confused.

“Theo, they’re coming. They know you’ve double crossed them.”

Theodore blinks.

He starts laughing.

“Y/N, hon. I think the stress is starting to get to you,” he smiles gently and presses a kiss to your cheek. “They know nothing.”

“No, it’s not! I-”

“Sweetheart, this anxiety of yours isn’t helping anyone right now,” Mrs. Weasley put her hands on your shoulders. “How about you go lie down for a bit, dear. I’ll bring you a cup of tea in a minute. Go on,” she gently shoos you from the kitchen despite your protests.

You’re ushered out into the hallway, and you can hear the click of the kitchen door’s lock. You scoff, offended and upset. You can hear the indistinct murmurs of everyone behind the door.

Why didn’t they believe you?

A now semi-familiar tugging sensation settles on your skin, the sound of warning magic filling the air.

You gasp. You run to the kitchen door, banging on it. “No, wait! Theo- let me in!”

You hear louder murmurs, then a crashing sound of what must’ve been the door splintering, just like before.

You bang louder on the door, jiggling the door handle. You can hear the sounds of the fight breaking out and you scream, hammering your fists against the kitchen door.

Then you hear it.

“Theodore. Traitor.”

“F-father-”

“The Dark Lord sends his regards. Avada Kedavra!”

It’s too late.

He’s gone.

You tackle Theo to the ground just in time, ducking under the spell.

His head hits the ground with a stomach churning crack. His face goes blank and the light in his eyes is snuffed out all at once. Blood slowly starts pooling around his skull.

The spell reflects off of the odd golden hourglass charm you wear around your neck.

The green burst bounces around the room like a pinball machine. It’d be comical if it wasn’t deadly.

It bounces off of the saucepan on the stove, rebounding. With no preamble, hits Theodore straight in the chest.

He falls with a sickening whumph.

It’s too late.

He’s gone.

The man on the floor, Theodore’s father, gives you a bloodstained grin. His red-streaked fingers help him claw his way across the floor over to you, a streak of blood smearing across the floor, marking the path of his slow-moving body.

He clamps one hand over your knee, squeezing with an unexpected strength. His nails dig into your skin, hard enough that dots of blood erupt to the surface. You gasp at the sharp pain, then gasp again when you look up into his ruby red eyes.

“Death is the end,” he rasps with psychotic glee, blood and spittle dripping from his lips. “You’ve changed nothing. You are nothing. You’ve failed him. It’s too late. He’s gone.”

LJ JUMPSCARE STAND B A CK

These have been in my files, dusting up LJ core BUT!! That's because I got STUCK at some point and put it to the side, and when I got back I was like. Do I still like these at all?? And the answer is yes, but not in a 'yeah I'll use these for suuuurre' type of way y'know-

So what are we looking at 🗣🗣 LJ concepts ofc!! And an Isaac mostly for scale, but don't look at him for too long he's not important rn. The idea was to have three LJ forms/phases (actually four, I was super ambitious idk), but here we see just two; Rainbow and LIAR!! >:((

Rainbow speaks for itself, that is fresh LJ, dare we say baby LJ- Tried to put some old clown inspiration into his fit here and there, the deranged amount of colours might throw it off a bit, but tbh! I like that!! Adds to the whole 'he LOOKS like he could be from here, but if you stare too long it starts feeling a lil uncanny' ig? Same way his facial features and general proportions are pretty human, but again, if you look for too long?? Hhmmmmm.

Moving on to LIAR!! Basically his whole deal was that he's supposed to be the form LJ takes when being a big ol liar, basically. Docile and non threatening for the little ones DESPITE HIS SIZE (I actually scaled him down, he was even bigger ffgvhbb), with more doll-like/silly proportions. That's really all there is too it, just a less scary form for deceiver reasons.

And here's where I got stuck! LJ's default, let's call it that. The form he's in when going about his business, whatever that is, potentially hanging out with his fellow creeps and pastas, those sorts of things. I just could not settle on what I wanted to do?? Something that made him creepier, still kept some design elements from the previous versions, but wasn't a simple (taller) copy and paste either- Focusing on his face for all of that would NOT have saved me I was COOKED smh 😔😔

So I'm allowing myself to start over! Sort off!! See if that helps idk, but I sure hope so?? I'd really like to have a LJ that I enjoy drawing repeatedly-

i wanted to lean more into Charlie's doll like features because I feel like Viv could've used it more

Charlie's face is based off info where demons make themselves look/act friendly in order to lure people to them

The twist is Charlie's luring (unintentionally) people in for good intentions

Her face is supposed to look familiar/common but enough to look kinda unique

The doll theme going on is to make Charlie s bit uncanny; aka how skinwalkers are

She looks fake and hollow, her face looks empty, kind of how someone putting on facade looks like (again referencing demon lore)

dolls just being almost everyone's least favorite thing in general because of how uncanny and creepy they are

The only thing she's hiding is a literal angel

She has her mom's nose

the pure/uncanny look symbolizes how she's kind and sweet and other stuff but she's inexperienced (lacking basically) and bites more than she can chew in terms of the hotel

she's scared of the abuse and violations that comes with her power dynamics leading her to not have that much of a spine, which vaggie helps with

So looking back I forgot my OWN LORE by forgetting to put cheek rings on Lute (like I did to Vaggie)

So let's pretend (being delulu is the solulu)

lute is just there to serve as a model to how (maskless) exterminators look like (sorry lute)

The cheek rings connect to Charlie and Lucifer's own cuz Lucifer was a former angel as we all know

Exterminators dress up like higher-up angels (see Charlie's true form to have an idea of it) in order to look more terrifying and intimidating

okay like bro real talk who would you be scared of more someone who looks like part of your species or a literal fuckin eldritch being coming to swoop in and kill you

Making exterminators look like demons was a dumb move sorry

Their mask serves as a lure of some sort where you can't help but look at them (kind of how we don't wanna see disturbing things but we can't help but stare at them when they appear)

And then boom you died because you were to busy looking at the "eye"

I think the look I gave them + some of their bloodthirsty nature's brings in more of the horror

I do like the fact they look like regular people underneath the masks because it kinda reminds you of heaven's hierarchy

once we go up the ladder the more terrifying they look

so once I redesign Emily and Sera....expect them to look more...captivating to the eyes

The feral critter that is Dream

uhhhh, a story? Ig? I’m bad at writing but I keep daydreaming about a silly scenario about Blue learning Dream has zero reservations about eating raw things.

This takes place rather early in their relationship so Dream really doesn't have any experience being around people other than briefly while working (and the villagers, if that counts)

It wasn't that Blue didn't notice Dream was odd in comparison to other monsters. In fact, he would have to be blind not to notice, what with How he walked just a bit too smoothly, each step more sure than a persons ought to be. Or how he radiated an aura of almost Eldridge energy, both calming and uncanny in it’s nature. No, no, it was just that Blue didn't think that this would be a particular issue he would have to deal with.

He had invited Dream over, not for the first time, but it had yet to be a regular occurrence. The last few times had only been brief visits. Dream always seemed weirdly nervous to be within his home, though Blue chalked this up to Stretch being overly protective and scaring Dream off. This time he was determined to get Dream to stay more than an hour or so, so he invited him to stay for dinner.

Blue liked it when Dream visited, even as short as it often was. It was hard to put his finger on it, but Dream just acted so differently when they interacted outside the public eye. Maybe Dream was just shy by nature. Though Blue got the feeling that wasn't quite right. Regardless, he wanted to have a good time with his friend.

He hasn't ever gone out to eat with Dream. In fact, he had never seen his friend eat at all. So he was a touch nervous about what to make for the special occasion, though Dream insisted that he didn't need to eat anything and Blue's company was enough. Blue would not stand for this! No, he had to make tacos tonight, steak tacos! He had retrieved a fresh cut from the butcher that morning and it rested in a brown paper wrapping next to the rest of the ingredients on the counter. Blue wanted everything to be as fresh and delicious as possible, after all. And Dream would be arriving soon anyways, so he would simply start cooking once Dream joined him inside.

Knock Knock knock

"Coming!" Blue called from the kitchen, making his way to the front door.

Dream stood on the other side, fidgeting nervously with the edges of his gloves like he had the last few times he'd visited.

"Come in, come in! I was just about to start dinner."

"Ah, yes, of course. Thank you for inviting me, Blue."

Dream stepped through the door way, his eyelights flickering faintly like a candles flame. Blue had noticed this before and found it happened mostly when Dream was anxious (when they were alone at least, Dream didn't really show real emotion in public, he was starting to realize) though he couldn't help but be slightly mesmerized.

He ushered Dream to the couch, knowing he would just stand awkwardly if he wasn’t prompted. Dream took a seat, his back straight and his hands folded in his lap politely. Blue wished he would just relax, but he'd yet to find the magic words to get Dream to believe he was allowed to be calm here.

"I’ll get started on dinner now, feel free to do whatever. It’ll be ready in a little under an hour.” He looks Dream over, considering. “Stretch is upstairs right now but he might come down, let me know if you have any issues with him” Dream nodded, he wouldn’t though.

Dream sat stiffly at the edge of the couch, listening to the clatter of metal as Blue got out the pans in the kitchen. He wasn’t sure what Blue was making. Well, dream knew he was making tacos (it seemed to be Blue’s favorite with how often he talked about making them) but he didn’t exactly know what that was. He spent much of his time roaming the multiverse but he very intently steered as far away from any sort of town or city, and he certainly didn’t plan to join anyone inside! So it wasn’t too surprising that Dream was unsure what alot of things were, even with him having been free for over 3 years now. Dream had seen some of the things Blue eats, usually from the snacks he would bring before battles. It looked… odd. The smells and looks never seemed to match. Some were colorful like fruits but smelled of seeds. Some were dark like cured meats the villagers would prep before a trip, yet smelled sweet like the pastries of his childhood.

A part of him heavily regretted agreeing to this. The meals the village insisted he eat almost always made him feel sickly and tired, an issue his brother shared with him. They both took to the forest whenever they were low enough on magic to actually need to eat, that never seemed to go poorly. Night was always a better hunter. he missed Night…

-ANYWAYS! If it turned out Blue’s tacos were like that Dream didn’t really have a plan to deal with that. Agreeing was maybe a bit impulsive of him. He found himself being reckless around Blue alot. It’s just- Blue looked so excited! And It really didn’t seem like a bad idea at the time.

Before Dream could think on it much longer, an interesting scent caught his attention. It wasn’t something new, he remembered it from when he was little, a nice smell that came from the shed by the cows pen. He stood up and trailed the scent to the kitchen where blue stood over a cutting board, mincing various greens. Thin slices of deep red meat sat one an open brown paper package by the heating pan on the other counter. Was this what blue was serving? Maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea, it smelled wonderful and looked like fresh kill.

It didn’t seem like Blue had seen Dream enter yet, too preoccupied with meal prep, and Dream was always a silent walker. He approached the counter holding the delightful looking cows meat wondering how long it would take Blue to be done. Why would this take an hour- It seemed like he was almost done! Surely Blue wouldn’t be too upset if he tried a bit, right?

Blue turned around, finally noticing Dreams arrival. “Oh! I didn’t notice you come in, mwehehe. Do you need anythi- STARS- DREAM WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?” Blue yelled, startling Dream, almost making him drop the strip of steak he was biting into.

“I- I’m sorry!! I didn’t- should..? Uhm-“ Dream stammered in his panic, looking around wildly trying to figure out what he did wrong. He was use to upsetting people but Blue felt like a much bigger deal, that was his friend! And he made him mad!

Blue wasn’t exactly sure what to do, sure he was worried about Dream eating raw meat (what if he got sick!) but he was more concerned with how shaken Dream looked at the moment, he didn’t yell that loud, did he?

“Hey- Dream, I’m sorry- I didn’t mean to yell you just surpri-“ Before he could finish Dream had already ran out. He heard the faint sound of his portal as his front door swung shut.

“-sed me….. well. I suppose we can have dinner another time”

Blue didn’t… he’ll need to talk to Dream about this next time they see each other. But first, he needed to clean up the mess Dream left in the kitchen. Blue can think about what the stars just happened after.

1. if anything ive seen a few theories of kazui possibly revealing himself to be a two faced manipulator of sorts due to his self proclaimed liarness…. like ‘ohh u cant trust what he says he cld be trying to make himself look pitiable to the audience to get voted inno’ sort of theories which is. no he wont do that???

is he a liar? to a degree yes—liar not in the sense that what he says are direct falsities, but more like hes built much of his character to constantly disguise his true intentions/feelings as a defense mechanism. the lies he says are less of words from a schemer and more of redirections from someone who is, all in all, an insecure adult scared of what will happen if he isnt able to meet peoples expectations of him

as much as he calls himself a liar hes mad honest about where he thinks his capabilities lie, which is to say he doesnt believe in his capabilities at all lol. when amane asks him for help with her studies, he turns her down after some consideration bc he doesnt believe himself to be smart enough to help (despite having graduated from a university; sports degree or not credit shld be given where credit is due). when he talks to shidou post ktk attack, he refuses to admit doing any of the work in taking care of the situation and instead puts all the praise onto shidou. even his physical strength and skill (which is arguably the one part of him he does acknowledge and take some sort of belief in) is something he treats as less of something that he has achieved himself and more of an obligation of his—like, hes strong bc to him he HAS to be, bc it is expected of him to protect those who need protecting. he does want to protect others, sure, but much of that wanting comes frm how ingrained it is in him that thats what hes good for, thats what his strength is for (his timeline w/ yuno on her bday says as much nyway)

the way i see it, that self deprication of his plays back into his obsession with meeting the expectations placed onto him, or at least lessening the disappointment of others by lessening those expectations in the first place. if u tell someone that u didnt go to the right university, that u didnt do much to help anyway, that u were born so fundamentally wrong as a person that everything is bound to go to shit as long as ur there (he basically said this to es in his t1 vd im not even kidding), wouldnt that ensure the safety that youre less likely to ruin someone elses confidence in you? less likely to ruin bc in the small chance that u still fuck up, theres not much left to ruin at that point

in the end ig what i wish more ppl understood abt kazui is that hes a liar yes, but not a manipulator. he lies to stay safe, not to be a sadist or whatever. you cant take what he says at face value (in much the same way u cant do the same for any other prisoner tbh), but that does not mean u shldnt take anything he says srsly at all!!!

2. ok this one i have to give a bit of thought, mostly bc i cant pick just one

if the standards were which t2 mv do i enjoy for its direction music n visual wise, purge march takes the cake so quickly. the music itself is so bomb (which like, i cant even find a logical explanation as to why… its just so good to listen to) n the mv itself does such a great job at creating the right atmosphere, both in its flashy theatrics and the subtle uncanniness under it. mayb i have a slight bias bc tpm was the whole reason i got into milgram in the first place, but i stand by it idccc

aesthetic wise, def all knowing and all agony. the horror elements r genuinely disturbing, but not so overbearing that it overwrites the pop style that milgram has going on. i luove the use of amber for blood, plus the filters that remind me of found footage u usually see show up in asian horror movies. i think i was actually terrified the first time i watched the mv

symbolic wise, its cat always and forever god bless. it takes advantage of its aesthetics to hint at subtle secrets so well that it makes me giddy as hell. the use of colors as a part of the set, the transitions frm scene to scene having its own part in making the story, n honestly making the bg more blank than usual readjusts the focus of the mv on what matters p well. i cant mention every detail rn or else id be here all day

gonna ramble a bit about the ml art style change bc ig I have more thoughts about it than I knew. tagging this as leaks but no like story stuff is gonna be mentioned bc I don't really know any lol

so going off what little we've seen of it (and in arguably the lowest possible quality at that) I think it's gonna make the show very visually pretty which isn't to say it couldn't be or wasn't in the older style(s) but that was def more inconsistent between studios and such so if this new style is the standard then like. yeah it's gonna look great

buuuuuuuut I also think it looks kinda. generic? like what's happened to a lotta brand logos that used to have personality but now all look super flat and simplified. like the Pepsi logo or whatever. it's a similar situation to the movie (I'll get into this in a bit) where like yes it looks pretty but it doesn't really look like Miraculous to me? like ik the style kinda varied somewhat between the studios but it was largely consistent enough and felt much more unique. like I could see a screencap from any timestamp of any episode and place it as Miraculous just bc of the visual style

now tho it looks less unique to me and more....like a mobile game ad? some kinda un-marketed direct to streaming movie? not trying to sound mean or anything but it just doesn't strike that same feeling the old style did for me as of yet. it feels more like an attempt to ape off a generic Pixar/Disney sorta style which the movie's style did too - and that ig is a good excuse for me to kinda dive into my thoughts there bc like. it looks way more like that movie now right? the y'know completely non-canon movie that to my knowledge wasn't received too terribly well lmao. I feel like this is on some level purposeful tho

I made a post the other day about how someone (especially the youngins) might go into season 6 thinking it's actually more of a season 1 only to presumably find that very much isn't the case pretty quick lmao - but that's still a new viewer, which makes number go up, which is a Good Thing. that s6 looks to be something of a fresh start given the whole Gabe in da Ground situation makes me believe this more since I'm pretty sure he got got in the movie too (<- does not remember the movie she saw twice) albeit in a different way. very real chance they view s6 as something of a soft launch pad with the hope of ppl who only saw the movie just jumping in without looking first. I also have an even more insane conspiracy theory that they're using movie assets at lower res for the sake of cost management but again. nutso hunch

regardless I'm kinda surprised they're changing it so drastically this deep into the series and I have no idea how the quality of animation is gonna hold up from episode to episode, season to season. presumably this is part'a why we haven't had s6 drop yet, that they've been working on it thoroughly, but it's been a good minute since s5 ended and I feel like the drought in content isn't really worth it?

like it's been so long that to me sometimes it's felt like the show straight up ended and while I don't mind a wait like this, the show then coming back looking entirely different to how it used to is gonna be jarring. I'm giving it a chance bc we haven't really seen it yet and that footage is very likely a wip of some sort but all the same I'm not terribly impressed? the emotions seem more stilted and flat, there's a few sorta redesigns that look....off (namely Adrichat, imo), and it feels too much like an attempt at cashing in on whatever success the movie might have had by bringing the look of the show more in line with it

think what gets me the most is that the style and animation of the show was one of the biggest things that drew me in beyond the bugcat of it all. it was the first CG animated show I'd seen where I felt as if the animation really worked; the world felt alive and vibrant, the city lived in and populated, but it didn't feel uncanny or like realistic in any sense, and there were plenty of gaffs and flaws throughout but I feel that only endeared the look of the show to me more - it had its own style that stood out for better or worse and I think that played more a role in the show's success than most have given credit for, and now that it's being entirely dropped in favor of a style that feels much more like some generic CG animation style I can't help but feel a bit disheartened and even nervous about the future of the series tbh

want to say that I'm not looking to hate it - I'm gonna give it a chance, and again I think it does visually look pretty, but I feel like it loses a lot of what made the show stand out to me and changes things I don't think really needed changed. time will tell but as of now I'm really not sold on it

also think having a special (or two? maybe?) in the old style just to drop us into the newer one presumably shortly after is kinda weird. wonder what happened there. bad timing? tbh using a special to introduce it mighta helped a bit but idk for sure

More stuff for Yume, since I've been working on him between 3am to 6am

I decided to somewhat keep the normal-anime boy eyes', but his pupil is red due to 'Hikaru' from The Summer Hikaru Died (but also Ivan ig). Has this 'patchy' look to him, which will be explained lower down↓

(forgive me for the weirdly drawn skeleton, i can't rlly drawn skeletons,,) And this might be weird since I did say that Yume is a normal/ average looking boy, but I just thought it would somewhat make sense in the dream-like way. He's made with a tail, but it's not as full as animal tails or as noticeable so it's easy to think of him as "normal". His tail is just an elongated tailbone that we humans have!

I decided to head very deep in the "uncannyness" by looks, because of inspiration from 'Hikaru'. But he's uncanny by his actions most of the time. His tail is hidden by being tucked away like in Blue Exorcist! (In the manga, it was shown that Rin hides his tail by wrapping it around his leg. It's somewhat similar to that, but his tail is bony and small so it's easy to forget it)

His eyes having a 'patchy' shine to them is due to how he was made by aliens in the same vein as Luka was, but they wanted someone to not BE human in the smallest of ways (tailbone, and his eyes). By his tail and eyes and he's somewhat like a Frankenstein, of some sorts
