SUMMER BLOCK BUSTER/CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MOM

GOOD ASS INTRODUCTION!!!!!!!

i did find block buster to be a lot weaker than cloudy but U need to have a calm before a storm if u catch my drift. also i think this is the episode where the animation is at its weakest. it ramps up sooo fucking good in cloudy. but even then i thoroughly enjoyed it. it was so fun seeing everybody again My bebbies have returned to me...........

That one back and forth where candace steps in after and goes what if you built.. all of them. was so insanely weirdly paced and not funny to me the womp was giving johnny test whipcrack but lucky for me both bread bowl hot tub and the rest of the show get funnier as it goes on LOL

OH AND the scene in cloudy where candace is chasing down momcloud and trying to get through to her has such beautiful lighting and is so SWEEET THEY LOVE THEIR MOM SO MUCH. Also everybody teaming up to save her AND i got yuri pellets (wipes tear from eye) its so damn peak..

LOOK AT THIS MAN ITS SO FUCKING COOL ID EXPECT THIS FROM ONE OF THE MOVIES OR SOMETHING. Linda cloud holds that power over people.. This was genuinely like REALLY cool and exciting im really glad they went with a double episode high stakes adventure for the premiere because like. ive been hungry for some phineas and ferb 22 minute episode drama... its been too long.

ALSO the art in general just had some really cute moments too izzy looks so cute when shes serious. and candace hugging irving. vv first i loled then i serioused. i took a lot of screencaps so im gonna add them here as i go

I genuinely do not have much to say about these episodes for some reason despite how much i loved them. I love that Buford found a Thingy and he Loves it. buford hungry feed him onions and discarded blue couches. Everybody got their own moment here it ruled

The songs in both. summer is starting right now changed me on a molecular level when it dropped it was stuck in my head ALLLLLL DAY EVERY DAY.

I was in work making delisandwiches and in my head technically the first day of summers tomorrow but today is the last day of school. schooooooooooool....

The song of tyhe Summer is insanely cooked and flop i dont even remember how it goes but i guess you could say its meant to be generic so like. no thoughts here. MY RATINGS:

SUBMARINE SANDWICH SUBMARINE/LICENSE TO BUST

I GOT A LICENSE TO BUST FULL THROTTLE FULL THRUST GOT ,Y PEDAL TO THE METAL GONNA EAT MY DUST. Ok back to the first one

I was really really excited for submarine sandwich submarine for 1 entire day when they dropped the screenshot of isabella and buford standing next to eachother because i foolishly believed they would have the plot centered around them beefing which i live for if you know me at all. BUT!! Idk it was just kinda an episode.

It really felt like an s4 plot in the sense of a really hard reach for a big idea. Im telling you my bermuda triangle idea from my beach art wouldve been better But like this was the next best thing. it even had wacky sandcastles. Umm the jessimpsons predicted submarine sandwich submarine. The fish was ugly as hell

I can really tell which episodes i liked the most based on how many screenshots or clips i took and this ones an outlier because i found everything baljeet was doing in this episode to be mega cute.

LICENSE TO BUST was a lot of fun too im so proud of my sweet little candace for getting her drivers licensed when faced with the adversary of a balding man. the SONG made the episode for me she ate that shit up thats for later though

LAWRENCE NOT THINKING SHES GONNA PASS WAS SO FUNNY WHATS HIS PROBLEM.................. HAVE FAITH IN YOUR BEAUTIFUL BABY GIRL OK.. also the gecko gear was so cute i want it so bad... but i think id get stuck to myself and wither up like a sad little freak.

and ferb has literally perished.

I LOWKEY DID NOT EXPECT HER TO PASS I CANT EVEN LIE. The twist that mr. driving guy is also a candacetype is funny but does this mean she passed her test via bias. what does this mean for the future of danvilles road safety? We'll never know cause she goes right back to riding her bike in the episodes after this. (read like cinemasins please)

oh and also while im here. im usually an A-plot only andy so ill probably only talk about doof and perrys plot if its PARTICULARLY funny or engaging to me (no arguments against this this is my protest for every b plot guy that ignores a plots existence. we have to balance it out or we're all gonna die ok?) and this one was.

Hes literally so real ITS LEGAL ITS ENTRAPMENT. KILL YOU PERRY THE PLATYPUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE LIGHTS ARE GREEN !!! heinz is a good name for a boy or a girl. DOOF WAS ACTUALLY REALLY REALLY FUNNY IN THESE EPISODES i was worried considering how bad he got near the end with like owca files doof and mml doof but MAN I WAS WRONG. SO WRONG. HES FUNNY AGAIN!!!!! BUT ILL GET TO THOSE WHEN WE GET TO MY STANDOUTS LOL. MY RATINGS:

Submarine Sandwich Submarine: 7/10. Over-animated isabella and buford scene will feed me for the rest of my life, baljeet attacked by various foods. Song mid though it was like a worse version of the sea shanty hng song

License to Bust: 9/10 IT WAS REALLY GOOD AND HAD A GREAT SONG.. The callback to her parralel parking fiasco and the Shenanigans was sooo much fun. Now that im here doesnt the intro of license to bust also sound like fred vs fred. whos better at paintball whos better at pool. whos better at driving her car safely near a school. idk just workshopping it.

final assesment - were these episodes MADE for me?: license to bust maybe not but subsandsub was really fun and 24fps buford animation makes me feel seen. 1 out of 2 score.

DRY ANOTHER DAY/DECONSTRUCTING DOOF

UNFORTUNATELY. neither of these clicked with me very much........... DESPITE THIS. DECONSTRUCTING DOOF MAY HAVE ONE OF MY TOP 3 NEW SONGS. GOOD AS FUCK but dry another day is first so shhhhhhhhhhh

this episode we see a character made because they want to keep writing veronica hill from hng but theyre in different parts of danville so they got this new weird guy in. and also a really hot day episode where theyre all sitting under the tree im litrally ghostwriting this show

microorganisms. they need some wawer. baljeet get out of the sun. and the zebra is back. and he drinks boba.. Now i feel like hes part of the mortal realm hes real. and candace reacts with JOY when she speaks to him i thought she BEEFS WITH THIS ZEBRA. Something must have happened between them over the 9 months they mustve reached some kind of peace agreement.

i also really love this karmic cycle buford and baljeet have going on in this season where as soon as one of them gets a moment to gloat over the others misfortune they also immediately eat shit. It makes me laugh every time i was literally hoping so much their dynamic this season would be them breaking chairs over eachothers heads and i think my dream came true.. also what was with the ferbjeet crumbs in this one. (Pic of the riddler) what is he cooking.

SO CUTE... The song in this one didnt really stick out to me that much i couldnt remember it at all. this ones less of a s4 flop song and more of a HNG flop song which is a different ballpark entirely..

NOT MUCH TO SAY. IT WAS A FINE LITTLE JAUNT I HAD FUN WITH IT AND THATS WHAT MATTERS. Its definitely not a skip-on-rewatch episode but its not lifechanging either.

Deconstructing doof is one of the 3 only episodes that i felt some semblance of negativity over. It wasnt bad by any means the therapist going crazy over discovering the truth was a lot of fun and i did have a good time with the episode but like. idk. the leadup was great i just didnt really like the ending it soured it in my brain

the bits where hes investigating and piecing things together is really fun and i love when hes interviewing all the kids and pnfs family. and isabellas like Hes a Genius :-). buford pulls the Im not talking to any cops move. and baljeet performs the candace reddit psychoanalysis.

what makes me think this episode didnt really resonate with me is that. i usually take screenshots. i took ONE. In this ENTIRE EPISODE. i took ONE MEAGRE SCREENSHOT AND ITS THIS

that aside though the song may be in my top 3 s5 songs. i LOVE doo wop songs and omfg this one was so fun. another candace and doof duet.. WAITER WAITER ILL TAKE SECONDS.. THIRDS.. FOURTHS. WHEN HE GOES I THINK I HAVE A THEORYYYYYYY. he ate . and seeing norm and nessa hanging out with doof is so cute im so happy norm is like. Around.

i hope he gets a bigger part eventually but i take what i can get thats my special guy. THE ENTIRE ROLEPLAY PART WAS SO FUNNY. WHYD HE GIVE NORM PAPER JUST FOR HIM TO NOT SAY OR DO ANYTHING. EXIT STAGE LEFT

and the flying disco blimp sequence SO CUTE i rlly thought that was just gonna be its own episode. the song was GREAT and their little dancemoves were so cute i cry.....

DECONSTRUCTING DOOF: 8/10 despite my hangups i can tell this is gonna be considered a legendary episode and i love the song so i cant really complain. Its a great concept and i think they did it well theres just something rotten in my heart

TROPEY MCTROPEFACE/BIBLIO BLAST!

Remember when we thought this was gonna be a ferb centric episode. and it instead turned out to be a zoetrope centric episode. maybe theyre more similar than we thought.. just something to make you think haha....

ANYWAY. MAN THAT EPISODE WAS FUNNY. THERES SO MUCH FUCKING NONSENSE I DONT EVEN KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN... MICHAEL BUBBLE...... HES HERE.

Im not used to michael buble singing anything thats not a christmas song tbh but he kind of ate this This is one of the ones thats been stuck in my head since i watched it. Episodes like this that center on some random object and what it gets up to are some of my FAVOURITES and this ones no exception its so fucking funny.

something i, as local pnf tumblr buford guy would like to point out, is that biffany got a new voice and a new design. Im kinda sad she doesnt sound like she smokes 30 packs a day anymore because that was such a vibe but THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER. I WAS LAUGHING SO FUCKING HARD

THATS THEIR FAMILY GARB. THEIR HERITAGE. Im so obsessed. i am also pretty happy that there is still no sign of anyone from bufords other side of the family so they didnt forget the lore tidbit that he comes from a broken home. The family get together from that one other pnf episode where all his family look like normal skinny background incidentals is so dead to me now. THIS is the real shit. lets all go cut down this tree. doesnt one of them look like vargskelethor joel anyway back to tropeface.

the drama.. the heartbreak.. michael bubble.. im so glad that tropey got to be with his beautiful ferris wheel wife and have triplets and the buford is a fat little hamster allegations are confirmed true. this was kinda the point in the season where i eralised hey isnt he like in this season a LOT. did they do it for me?

honest i dont even know what to say. its so serene its so beautiful. tropey has lived such a full and vast life. hes been through so much. im glad he finally gets to relax. At peace with the world......finally. Sorry to phinabella fans for this one though im keeping you in my thoughts

Again this is apparently the season of buford so we got him shitting on metamorphosis because edgar allen poe is his oshi or whatever which made me laugh a lot. ISABELLA DOING A BRITISH ACCENT WAS SO CUTE ALSO When she and buf banter it gives me life. yes it happens one other time this season its really great guys. things are looking up for me. ALSO DOOF WAS SO SO FUNNY IN THIS ONE. HEINZ HAS NO CLOROPHYLLLLLL UGHHHH THATS SO EMBARASSING FOR HIM. SO EMBARASSING.

The doof plants are really cute i like them id have one in my house but i guess id have to muzzle it but that feels inhumane. so i guess i have to let them live in the wild.. free.. like a bird.. if a bird was a plant.....

The song for this episode also has hng disease in that the vocal mixing is really strange. i had the same problem with strawberry festival im not sure why it happens it just isnt all that nice to listen to. the VISUALS were so cute tho theyre so cute... my little friends! MY RANKING:

A CHIP TO THE VET/MORE THAN JUST AN INTERN

this damn episode. Its so bad.

I cant even lie. I did not enjoy it. but it wasnt quite the worst episode so i guess it has that going for it.

The stakes of perry getting a chip were completely dumb and not good. i thought theyd realise the potential of this but perry gets out of getting a chip thru being a platypus and not cartoon hijinks sio basically im gonna die. i was left feeling desolate and alone after this flop and then carl shows up like an angel and brings me to a new beautiful world. thats what these 2 paired up means

the song was pretty decent i do love sophia james singing voice and her work on HNG were always the best songs so it obviously translates over. The littel dance bits with the animals are so cute phineas is literally so cockatiel coded its adorable. and i do love to see a fireside girl or two. believe it or not i genuinely took no pictures of these episodes on my first watch; chip because it sucked and i just wanted it to be over and more than just an intern because it was so damn good i didnt even think of it.

highlight of this episode was probably buford flirting with jeremy. this means he has a crush on both candace and jeremy. whats his play. what does he think hes doing.

let him keep it its cute. and isabella confirmed baldy. IM trying to avoid talking about the goat scream joke because it makes me want to throttle somebody just know it fucking sucks and i hate it. anyway The song guys :). i do really like im just gonna excema this room. i might say that one irl some day its real good. guys im just so apathetic to this episode. its not real...

MORE THAN JUST AN INTERN however is VERY MUCH REAL. ive really really wanted a carl episode for a long time cause hes one crazy son of a bitch. and it makes em wanna attack monogram. but i know some people genuinely hate monogram but i like how shitty he is because its funny LOL.. sorry carl......

i made a really bad joke to one of my friends when they were saying that doof always smelled like fish and i mean im not gonna disclose that here becuase this is a family friendly review but the connontations of this sentence tells you everything. and carl is canonically microchipped.. in case he gets lost... so sweet

THE RETURN OF THE CARL THE INTERN SONG WAS REALLY GREAT I WAS HAPPY WHEN I HERD IT. I do love a good callback and this one wasnt forced or nothing thats just his theme song. but NEW

THE AURORA PERRY-ALIS/LORD OF THE FIRESIDES

made me scared. i have an irrational fear of when characters get shrunk down really small in cartoons and get eaten. i dont actually know if monty ate them but i saw enough and got scared and skipped like half the episode. Idk the context of the booger napkin and i never will journey to the center of candace finally has a 2nd episode to join it in my 'scared' tier in my pnf episode tier list.

OK ASIDE FROM THAT. I really liked it. seeing montnessa again and getting a reason for why they kinda fizzled out was great and i really hope they do more with their relationship. The scene with the aurora was BEAUTIFUL AND I LOVED THE LIGHTING and i quite liked the song it was niceys i just checked its sophia james again i shouldve known. ITS SO NICE

i could make them butchfemme. all hope is not lost. i can imagine anything.. and the sweet lil family moments with the flynn fletchers was awesome lawrence joining the conga line and getting rlly into it made me giggle. love you Bro

Well. we are finally here. im sure it is genuinely no surprise to anyone that the candace suit was my favourite episode of the entire batch and even made it to my top 5 pnf episodes ever. there was just so much good buford.

Why the FUCK did he show up in his garage in a purple velvet bathrobe smoking a pipe. whered he get that. they put bubbles in it but i wouldnt have even batted an eye if he was just like acutally smoking atp. IT WAS SO FUNNY. WHYS HE A CRIME BOSS

ladies. to what do i owe this pleasure. what the hell man i need to draw this fit. ALSO BALJEET BEING IN ON IT AND BEING PROUD OF THE FACT THAT THERES A FUCKING BALJEET HOMUNCULI TEA PARTY ROOM WHERE SOME OF THEM ARE SUSPENDED IN THE AIR BY CHAINS AND HANDCUFFS. ITS FUCKED UP WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO THEM. i love it. They couldnt have done better.

The suit shenanigans in the episode were so fucking funny but maybe the biggest highlight to me was that THE SONG LEAK TRICKED US. IT WAS SUNG BY BUFORD??? I THOUGHT IT WAS A DANNY JACOB BANGER. Lowkey bobby gaylor ate with it Buford has a hard voice to sing in but it was REALLY good. Like it was reminding me of how lord hater sings in WOY it made me laugh so hard. But ohhh my god it was so funny. Their idea of buford development is turning him into some kind of art freak that knows everything about everyone. he clones people in his garage. his moms ok with it bnc their family cuts trees down for fun so theyre all fucked up in the head. awesome. Literally so fucking awesome

This episode got so many laughs outta me and i loved isabella and buford making fun of candace together for literally no damn reason. SHIT STIRRERS. LETS WEAR OUR CANDACE SKIN AND MAKE FUN OF CANDACE. For an internet trend. Yay! anyone who hates this episode is weak minded and wouldnt survive the baljeet dungeon.

AGENT T FOR TEEN. Ok so i was sad my manifest didnt work but this was SOOOOOOOOOO GOOD. THE HABERDASHER/OUT OF CHARACTER

Ok jokes aside i LIKED the character of the haberdasher but the most impressive and interesting part of that episode to me was the damn robot spider he was in at the start.

i love that hes steampunky and i love his earnest enthusiasm. hes a fun guy. this black beret really slays . Mothman doof was awesome also im really sad the mothman song was seemingly scrapped becuase i loved it But like YAY AWESOME BUG MAN. I didnt like whatever he was doing with his voice but i kinda forgot abt it after a while so like. WHO CARS.

this is the most ive ever related to doof because back in my youth i used to chew on fabric because i thought it tasted reall;y good. sometimes i crave it. like how he tried to eat socks.

The song that REPLACED THE moth man song..hoo boy. i have a hat for that was almost a good song but the pacing was just kind of off for me it felt like it was moving too fast and then would randomly slow down and then just kick off again and i was left afraid and alone.

I DO LIKE HOW HE CAN JUST TURN HIS SHOP INTO A DINKY CAR how come he has a totally different aesthetic to owca. i guess hes friends with professor elemental from real life and phineas and ferb. much to think about. hes a sweet guy and i wonder if hell ever show up again. ALSO THE SUBPLOT OF THE KIDS BUILDING SOMETHING WITHOUT PNF WAS SOOO CUTE. Buford bringing back the Thingy from cloudy made me laugh a lot. and him being like cant lie guys we're shit.

Out of character was also really fun as someone who was raised into a star trek loving household . The set was REALLY fun and baljeet being so excited for acting was adorable i wanna pinch his cheeks. also buford movie interest scraps slowly making me like that career path for him so good job guys.

The song was kinda un memorable for me i do like whenever baljeet gets a solo of some kind but idk if this genre really worked with him he was just a bit shrill. I like that they tried to go for a patter-song type thing but i think with a patter song it needs to have yknow. the signature instruments. and the switch to the singers just doesnt work. Its flop im sorry my sweet little ball

Doctor Odyssey finale (aka the Captain vs The Powers That Be)

WELL! My mind is powerful unfortunately.

That simultaneously blatantly looked like what happens when a queer story gets censored but ALSO felt it could be twisted as setup for a future throuple in season 2 if miracles happen, which is both better and worse than I expected (a la Max’s speech).

They packed several bits of ODY3 subtext in the last like 5 minutes of that episode and I will TAKE IT ALL:

Max and Tristan making up as a group wedding happens.

Here's a screencap I took that also captured my sister texting me because she heard me yell "FUCKING FINALLY" through the wall.

Bonus points for the Captain's speech about love.

Despacito (LMFAAAOOO) being a Max/Tristan moment before Avery returns. "It started with a dance on a beach," as we were reminded this episode. But that song and dance was always about all 3 of them.

Not ending it on Maxavery; ending it on the throuple. Despite how that makes Tristan a third wheel in a scene that would feel objectively insane in any other television program about a love triangle lol. But this was never a conventional love triangle despite this supposed "resolution"! It was a poly love story!

And Max said he'd take all the bad again for both of them.

But! Come for the ODY3 subtext, stay for the other tangentially related subtext in the episode.

It's not a joke anymore (if it ever was): I DO think there is credence to the Captain's story in this finale being about the censorship of the show. It felt intentionally blatant.

"Corporate" "The powers that be" The rest of the team standing in solidarity? Not a boat but a SHIP?

Yeah.

Sequence of events:

Captain Massey, #1 supporter of ODY3 in the show (like its creators/writers), is steering the ship.

Captain is removed from power by corporate and the ship is steered by Monroe to bring Avery to Max.

Maxavery ultimately decide on monogamy. (That hard cut from Max and Avery dancing without Tristan to the Captain looking upset while on the ship? Like holy shit lol.)

Captain is then put back in power in the end via solidarity and protesting from his team.

Only then does ODY3 subtext return.

Crazy work.

I see. I perceive and appreciate. I say "fuck you, ABC network executives." The usual.

But in all seriousness, one of the reasons I'm arguing this is that – if I understood/remember correction (I'm very tired so maybe I'm off with this detail lol) – the Captain was removed from his position for saying they were returning to land to pick everyone up. So corporate punished him for that.

But Munroe made the same call and then did THE SAME DAMN THING with no consequence. It wasn't a plot thing. It was a metaphor!!!

CRAZY. WORK.

I do think they set up potential for a season 2 fairly well, all things considered? Like Max/Avery are obviously doomed without Tristan involved. Framing even conveyed that:

Tristan being in the middle again, getting between Max and Avery just like when they walked down the aisle as a trio (as ODY3 truther Captain is reinstated)… likely thing for them to show.

Avery wearing red as a visual warning while Max/Avery's chairs are close together and Tristan is slightly farther with a different drink… sick and twistedddd. (<- Complimentary)

So like, I'm at the point where I believe this show either doesn't get renewed because they said no ODY3 allowed, or if it DOES get renewed it's because ODY3 is (temporarily) alive as a possibility. The writers left themselves enough threads and subtext to work with, though I'm not sure how they'd get around Avery not being on the boat.

...but Avery going to med school means Max/Tristan would physically be on the ship together as just the two of them for a bit. There's that.

So like. Am I satisfied? No.

Would I say I'm upset? Not on the level I could've been. The writers got to sneak in more crumbs than my low expectations anticipated tbh. I'm mostly just sighing heavily. I also think I'm entitled to financial compensation, and Tristan as a character is entitled to violence, after which I will wrap him up in a blanket to hug him.

Would I say this show has wasted potential if it's been axed via the behind-the-scenes ultimatum of network interference that I suspect? Yeah, obviously. ABC executives, you STUPID BIGOTED BASTARDS.

To recap from last week's post:

There is a non-zero possibility that the execs gave Ryan Murphy an ultimatum about no longer doing polyamory, and since that’s the premise of the show, he is stuck struggling to figure out where the show can go from here. Which is maybe why it’s a decision (but not much of one) that the execs say Ryan Murphy has to make, which positions him as the bad guy who has to take the fallout from fans if he ostensibly ~just decides not to continue the story~ if renewal doesn’t happen.

The way this finale went seems to support that. But who knows! Take it with a grain of salt.

Anyway. I'm chillin. Like I made my peace with this a couple weeks ago at this point because I could see the writing on the wall. This show was still a gift to me. Censorship is just seemingly alive and well in the big year of 2025 (that's not news, though I really appreciate it being written into a plot) but subtext is also alive and well, so! Fuck it.

Just some ramble thoughts

And spoilers I suppose but you can see it all on YouTube rn a couple people have playlist or see it on Disney plus. Imma get a DVD box set one of these days because Disney might be dicks and use them as a tax write off someday.

Holy shit. It's haunting. For a kids show that aired on daytime television it's got a lotta messed up shit in it. The elevator monster is spooky as hell. The episode about The Lug is so many levels of messed up.

Sprx being evil for two episodes was wild. Not because he was evil but because of how the animators were allowed to show him two seconds away from pulling Nova apart. Like oh my god I felt my own joints jump. Ugh.

Valeena was a menace and I wish she stayed around.

Galactic smash should have been a bigger deal it felt pretty large scale. Also I love how fucking petty Maurice was. Like he was a 5 second character who is on screen to gloat. Good for him.

I can't believe the show made it to 4 seasons. It was unapologetically gross when it wanted to be and down right brutal. Don't get me wrong I love the show and desperately want a 5th season or a movie to finish it off properly but damn it had balls. Sure gargoyle could be haunting but it wasn't as cruel or nasty.

That thing with the cult was wild. I know my house hold was not cool with that. Anyway I can see why it didn't sell that many toys or get the views. It was ballsy and brutal.

I also really fucking loved how lived in the city felt. There are so many background characters that we see constantly and like I give a shit about Mr.Gackslapper and his hover burger joint. I can't believe the show was like yeah actually Mr. Cheapers the penguin stuffed animal has a soul in that ONE episode and therefore it could be stolen lol. Regardless its a city full of wonderful people and it's so easy to believe that yes the monkeys and Chiro want to protect their home.

The background art is stunning. Breathtaking even.

The monster of the week was always fun. The green floating head dude is my favorite but scrapperton, sakko, Mandarin, bone clone Mandarin, Gyrus Krinkle are just some of the highlights. Truly a cast of colorful villains.

I can't believe how much stuff they packed in 20 minute episodes. A lot and yet so little.

Is the skeleton king Chiro's father? We know nothing, absolutely NOTHING about his home life. And like all I can base anything off of is that one 10 seconds in an episode from season 1 (I think) where Chiro is like... This is weird these are all my childhood toys in skeleton kings weird underground base. Like what the hell???

So many unanswered questions.

Anyway it was a delight. I'm sad we didn't see them go to war. Oh well.

house md season 1 review!

now that i've finished season 1 and the corresponding episode recaps, i want to collect my final thoughts and decide which are my favorite and least favorite episodes!

these posts will be light on the analysis and heavier on my unsolicited opinions, borne via intuition and gut feelings and all in good fun!

season strengths:

the scope of what season 1 accomplishes. network tv or not, making sure to check every possible box without overloading the audience with over-obvious exposition is a feat, and i think season 1 does this excellently across the board. moments that come to mind are the tiny conversations with wilson that reveal just drips of his character, as well as more impactful moments like when cameron tells house about her deceased husband in 1x07. each of those moments feel earned and amount to a fuller picture. even the way they deliver news about each character adds to the characterization process itself.

longevity. this seems like a given, but in the age of non-network tv, i think it's taken for granted - something that happens to a character in episode 5 may return in any subsequent episode with a punch and a point. i love that.

the tone! even as the orange slowly petered off over time, i think they nailed the prime tone of house md by episode 5; "maternity" and "damned if you do" strike a perfect balance between grave seriousness, social issues, and house's comedic irreverence. the accusation of later seasons/moments becoming "tonally dissonant" from the larger narrative are based in these foundational episodes.

keeping things grounded. somewhere along the way i joked that "remember when wilson getting fired off the board was the worst thing that happened?" and that stands true lol. while my favorite season is 5, which captures house md at its most insane at times, the levelheadedness and plausibility of season 1 was refreshing. it makes sure the audience doesn't forget the Doctoring going on. it highlights the fact that every main character has a genuinely brilliant mind. it makes us feel not just for the interpersonal drama, but for the patients, too, a thread that gets lost pretty quickly.

house and atheism! this relationship encapsulates a lot of other subthemes that i enjoy - esp. unconditional love's presence in the show - and even its earliest roots do so much work for the show overall.

season weaknesses:

where is cuddy. maybe this is unfair because i'd argue the pacing of season 1 is pretty solid, so i should Trust the Character Unfolding Process, but she was just so underutilized. when she would appear at the beginning and/or end of episodes just to quip, it left me wanting SO much more. they made it clear that wilson's early character function is to appear to moralize; cuddy's narrative purpose is still murky, even when she saves the very fabric of PPTH!

the Hameron of it all...i have come to appreciate it a lot more than my first go-around, but it went on for too long. i think if the arc had been introduced later, the latter episodes would have stayed strong and i would have suffered less. i just can't get past the "young girl doctor falls for cynical mentor," trope, no matter how much they subvert it and reveal about cameron and house respectively along the way.

small issue, but vogler's departure was underwhelming. i guess this is related to my complaint about a lack of cuddy - she did that! i wanted a least a little more closure, especially since he's one of just two major Villain figures featured in the entire show.

favs:

i've been sitting here for about 30 minutes trying to come up a top 3 and it's killing me.

1x17 "role model": i feel the pariah flames licking at my feet for "three stories" not being my number 1, but the character work they do for house in this one is just something else. his decision to flub the speech, and the resulting fallout, is our strongest sign in season 1 that he's more than Kind Of messed up, even when he has good intentions (dogging on an evil pharmaceutical company and its head tyrant). ironic that house/cameron is in my season weakness list and yet this episode that features them so heavily is my favorite, but it's got all the god imagery/motifs that a guy could want. and "people pray so that god won't crush them like bugs. i'm not gonna crush you" ?? SHUT UP. BECAUSE THEN HE DOES JUST THAT. REPEATEDLY.

1x21 "three stories": yeah. it's just too brilliant. almost everything i could ever want is happening here, along with some of hugh laurie's strongest moments as house yet. i also use 1x21 as irrefutable evidence that unconditional love is one of the driving, if not THE driving, themes of the show. 10s all around. truly the only "downside" is that i wish wilson was around more but that's only because i'm annoying about him.

1x10 "histories": i get the sense that i may be one of the few to rank this one so high, but i this is my pro-wilson propaganda. we see him doctoring, doing oncology, having strong feelings, actually confiding in house, enduring the inevitable oncologist burnout, mentoring the fellows - a little bit of everything. the episode pairing him with foreman is so interested and unexpected, and it's just sooo tragic at the end. very memorable for me on 1st and 2nd watches.

least favs:

1x06 "the socratic method": this just didn't click with me. i think the message is unclear and the expository work gets in the way of a lot of the episode's chance for cohesion. cuddy giving house the birthday card, while super touching, feels out of left field in retrospect, and then we don't really pick that thread back up throughout the season. we learn more about their history much later.

1x03 "occam's razor": no major qualms except that it felt so much weaker than its 2 predecessors. it feels unsure of itself by jumping into sexual tension territory, but future episodes, even in season 1, will handle it a lot better. we just didn't know the characters enough yet.

if i'm to give the season an overall rating out of 10, with the rest of house md in mind, i'd give it a 6.5/10. i feel like that reads harsher than i mean it to. i enjoyed so much of this season, but it's riding on potential for me, rather than delivery. it sets the stage so excellently for season 2 and it's abundantly clear why it got renewed. we can only go up!

Anyways, what IS Alien Stage about?? Listen to my no-research explanation 👍 I’m qualified bcs I’ve watched Alien Stage 5 times and I cried on Valentine’s Day. If you get that reference i love you. (It’s wiege 😔)

Think Squid Games x The Voice or maybe Project Sekai ig 🤷‍♀️

The premise is super simple so dw. Aliens invaded earth and destroyed everything. Now, they’re taking humans in as pets. The ones we follow are basically K-pop idols

MAIN CHARACTERS - MIZI, SUA, IVAN, TILL, HYUNA, LUKA.

All of them are on the newest season of ALIEN STAGE. Alien Stage is a singing competition where two humans get on a stage in front of a bunch of aliens and sing their hearts out. Aliens vote on who wins, and whoever loses dies, while whoever wins will advance. It’s like a bracket.

Now that all of that’s out of the way, let’s talk abt the humans!!! They were kinda raised in Anakt Garden which doesn’t really matter but they were trained to sing there. Every Human is owned by an alien, most of which are bad ‘people’ (for example, most of them are incredibly abusive..)

Now, to the characters!

MIZI!!!

Mizi is what I would consider our main character. She appears in the first episode, ROUND 1.

Mizi’s the more cheerful, happy character. Her alien is arguably one of the ‘nicer’ ones so she’s not as traumatized or hurt as the others. From what I can see at least lmao.

Overall I personally don’t know much about Mizi aside from what I’ve seen, but she’s very emotional, very caring.. if you play Genshin, think Navia kinda. If you watch TBHK, she’s kinda like Nene? She’s the happiest person in the show lol. At least for a little bit before that happiness is ripped away 🥲

EDIT LATER: This is spoiler-y but this is for the Mizi lovers bcs HOW did I make her seem so one dimensional??? She blames herself for her friend’s deaths, she has survivors guilt TIMES TEN. She cares about others above herself, and she’s willing to risk her own safety for them. She’s sentimental.

Next up, SUA!!!

Now SUA is someone I can easily explain using Tbhk characters. Think Aoi Akane (the girl Aoi). There you go.

Sua is more complicated but not super complex. She and Mizi are childhood friends, they’re always together, Sua kinda inspired Mizi to sing, etc. Sua lowkey hates everyone but Mizi lmao. Anyways, as I was saying, Sua is one of the most important characters in alien stage if not the most important. Mizi did everything mainly in Sua’s memory.

As I was saying, think Aoi Akane when it comes to Sua.

Anyways—Ivan is also very complicated imo

And NO I will not downgrade him to ‘In love with Till and that’s it’ I REFUSE.

Ivan’s alien is one of the worse ones I think. Ivan grew up literally not understanding how to smile.

He literally didn’t understand social interactions at all, so he appeared kinda off putting to others.

If you watch JJK, he’s kinda like Suguru. That’s the best I could think of lol.

Anyways, he’s one of the characters that ties in very closely with another. (Like how Sua and Mizi are tied together in the storyline)

He’s very closely related to Till (which kinda sucks because his whole story revolves around Till in most cases.)

Ivan would do things to intentionally upset Till to get his attention, (like fighting him as a kid 😨)

(.. you get the idea 😭 this ^ was in Anakt Garden btw)

Anyways, Ivan eventually put in effort to appear more normal, and he befriended Mizi and adopted a more cheerful personality.

Behind all of this, Ivan sees the world as rather sorrowful and cruel. He believes he’s destined for unhappiness and is resigned to the reality that Till doesn’t feel the same about him, that Till doesn’t love him. (We’ll get back to this in Till’s part)

Anyways, Ivan deserved better, love him so much, etc.

TILL!!!

I don’t even know who I could compare him to tbh. The best I could think of is Kou from Tbhk.

Let’s start with the fact that Till actually has a mother. Idk about Sua and Mizi, but Ivan doesn’t even know his own birthday and from what we know he has no parents. Luka is another case of this (we’ll go over that later.)

So yes, Till actually has a mother, he was a baby, etc. Till is shown to be very sensitive, a bit timid, very emotional. He’s outspoken, he yells at aliens, he flips them off, etc. (Yes there’s a real image of him flipping off an alien lmao)

Till is known specifically for being very disobedient, and imo his alien is one of the top 2 WORST ones. His alien and Luka’s are tied.

His alien straight up abuses him harshly because he’s so disobedient (I’m so sorry i love you Till)

Now his relationship with Mizi.. if you couldn’t tell, Mizi and Sua are in love. Till is in love with Mizi. Ivan is in love with Till. Very upsetting.

Ivan has actually escaped from the aliens with Till before, but Till went back bcs he couldn’t leave Mizi behind.

I won’t go into the details about what aliens are implied to have done to Till, but js know that it’s incredibly abusive.

(If you’re sensitive please be warned. I’ll put it right here in small text: It’s implied that Till was drugged/subdued and sexually assaulted. I’m so sorry my poor baby.)

Quick note - People have called him the male Ado bcs of his voice! Do with that as you wish.

She knew something was up before you were even upset. You were sluggish, you rarely came out of your room, & you weren't smiling as much!

Expect loads of unexplained boxes of candies & cookies outside of your door, random stuffed animals in your room, etc. She just wants to make sure you feel okay!

It took you a few days to figure it out, & then you just had to explain it to her: you & your best friend had a big argument & hadn't been talking.

Charlie immediately tries to fix it! She's trying to set up a meeting with you & your friend to work things out, she's writing apology scripts, etc.

Eventually, you snap & tell her that you don't want any of this & you just need time to grieve.

Expect 10 apology emails next morning!

oh hello this is interesting. special interest time !!

AvA stands for Animator vs Animation. it originally started as a two minute long animated short film by Alan Becker, featuring a stick figure called victim and the animator that created it. the original film was published on newgrounds in 2006. later two more were made, featuring The Chosen One [Chosen] (in ava 2 and 3) and The Dark Lord [Dark] (only in ava 3). the story of these two continues from 2 to 3, starting with Chosen's creation. in being named The Chosen One, he comes to life a lot more powerful than victim had. similar to victim, he immediately starts to fight with his creator (called Noogai3), and also like victim, said creator doesn't give two shits about his wellbeing. once Noogai3 beats Chosen in their fight, he captures Chosen and forces him to be an adblocker. later, Chosen escapes, and Noogai3 creates Dark to deal with him. only problem is Chosen is significantly stronger than them. and when Dark realises Noogai3 doesn't care what happens to them as long as they do their job, they team up with Chosen and the two of them work together to bluescreen Noogai3's computer .

this is where the series was originally going to end, but in 2014 (three years after ava 3), the fourth episode was released. [im not going to go through the plot of any more episodes, but i will give you a timeline of episodes and full series watching order at the end.]

in 2015, the original Animation vs Minecraft was released. this later became its own side show, which is ironically longer than the original main show, at 36 episodes across four seasons. the fourth one actually just ended. season three is by far the best of them, with a plot arc that spans 11 episodes that includes emotional character development, great music, and a character backstory that they kind of gave us out of nowhere but yk. you win some you lose some.

the main show Animator vs Animation picked up again in 2018 for a second season, which is comprised of four episodes. however, they were originally just parts of one episode (5), and even though it was like a year ago, im still getting used to that change lol. this season features the return of Chosen and Dark after not hearing about them for seven years. in 2023, the third (and still ongoing) season started. and im not giving any spoilers for that one.

this whole time, there have also been side videos titled Animation vs [game or other subject]. none of these videos are technically required to watch and don't do much for the whole series plot, except Animation vs League of Legends, which takes place somewhere between the first and third seasons of AvM. there's also a three episode side series called the Influencer Arc where a character does exactly what you'd think based on the title. also cool but not required.

if you're planning on watching AvA (the whole series is on youtube, channel name Alan Becker), your best options are just watch the Animator vs Animation series [~1.5-2 hour watch time], or go in this order (only covers the essentials).

BSD Locations- Yokohama Visit 2024 - Part 2

5. Motomachi Plaza (S3EP30)

The place where Higuchi was spying on Gin and then runs into Atsushi and Kunikida lol. Its a small mall (?) overlooking Motomachi street, the exact street where Atsushi and Dazai were walking in season 1 episode 2. She was spying from the first floor and honestly, it was a fairly noticeable place, hardly ideal for spying on anyone lmao. No wonder Atsushi and Kunikida noticed her immediately 😂

6. Yokohama Chinatown (S1EP9, S3EP30)

Only about 5 minutes walk from Motomachi street is Chinatown. Honestly I was kinda amazed at how near identical even the path leading to Chinatown was. I had to wait for a while for the signal to turn green. Having an ability like Katai would have been convenient hahaha XD. Gin's escape route in the anime is quite realistic from the point of view of the actual locations, which is just incredible!

The gate is so identical in the second screenshot and I noticed later that even the 7-eleven on the right makes an appearance in the anime. The gate in the first screenshot is probably a different one though :')

7. Yokohama Kantei Temple (S3EP36)

This temple only makes a brief appearance in the anime, when Tanizaki is talking to Dazai on the phone after his surgery. It's a really beautiful temple located inside Chinatown. There was another temple that looked similar, but that turned out to be a different one lol. You have to pay if you want to enter into the main shrine, otherwise it's free to enter :)

While I was taking some pictures, I unexpectedly ran into a couple of BSD fans here who saw my Kunikida ita bag lol XD. They were from Kyoto and were visiting Yokohama on the same mission as me HAHAHA. It was really wholesome and I was so happy to know there were other fans curious about the real life locations like me!!

8. Nippon Yusen Hikawa Maru, Yamashita Park (S3EP31)

Such a lovely place to spend the day, maybe even at night, walking around!! There were many benches and sitting areas to relax and catch up. I could have taken a similar picture to the anime, but I obviously got it wrong lol. This place was about 8-10 minutes walk from the temple in Chinatown. I think you can enter the cruise museum for a small fee. I only went to the souvenir shop outside in the port area to buy some souvenirs, and the cashier there was also a BSD fan!! They said their favorite character was Akutagawa! 🥹

9. World Square (S3EP30)

This is close to Yamashita Park, but honestly it was so much farther than I expected, and there's so many stairs to climb too. (My legs were already killing me at this point and it was just noon with still many places to cover 😭). Katai confessed his feelings to Gin here, and honestly I would hardly consider the actual location to be an ideal spot for a confession ajdlslfsjk. The fountain wasn't really working, there were many leaves scattered about and also it's so far away from Chinatown. How did they even get to this place? It was a nice and quiet neighborhood without too many people around though, so it's good for a private discussion I suppose.

10. Yokohama Marine Tower (S4EP41)

You can see the tower from this square too. This is the place where Ranpo and Poe meet Mushitarou in S4. I was planning to go to the actual tower after lunch, but as expected I couldn't manage my time very well considering I still had many other places I wanted to visit remaining in my list ajdlslfsjk.

love my men on some horses. there is surprisingly not much horse action in this drama. i know we do get it next episode, but overall, in comparison to other ancient cdramas, horses are truly only supporting roles here.

yao helping miaomiao out of the carriage <3 i like that she is canonically the youngest, and everyone treats her like the baby she is.

i like how both mus look back at miaomiao in regards to that being the only inn to stay at, and ziqi specifically comments on it being fine and all because miaomiao has an upset look on her face. and its really not because shes that uptight/pretentious, shes just worried about the plot going awry! but he doesnt know that, so of course he has to describe worse conditions to her to let her know she should be grateful.

Arcane: Season 2 Leaks Rant (Spoilers)

Arcane: Season 2 is only a few days away. I've vagueposted a bit about the leaks, but now I'll go more in depth on my opinions on the first 5 episodes. Spoiler warning:

So many unwise decisions were made writing-wise. It's like they made poor choices at almost every turn.

"Should we focus on concluding the Piltover story arc in its own show before moving on to other regions? Nah, let's bloat the story with Noxus advertising that will eat up valuable screentime and leave a lot of casual fans confused."

"Should we prioritize concluding the arcs of our main cast? Nah, let's cram the story with a multitude of side characters that take screentime away from the characters who need it most. The audience will for sure be more interested in randos like Maddie, Isha, Salo, big enforcer dude, and that sorceress lady, rather than the main characters they grew to love in Season 1."

"Should we give more screentime to other Champions who aren't even close to concluding their arcs? Nah, let's spend a lot of screentime on Jinx meandering about in her lair playing with puppets, scenes which do not drive the story forward."

"It's the final season of the show with only 9 40-minute episodes. Should we massively trim down our bloated script to make sure the important story beats have enough development time, and remove unnecessary fluff? And if not, maybe add more episodes? Nah, let's just try to cram absolutely everything in here as if we have a 20 episode season and not 9. Leave absolutely nothing on the cutting room floor."

In my opinion, this Season 2 could have been greatly improved if they had omitted all the Noxus bullshit. Seriously, shoving Ambessa and Mel's plot in here was a big mistake. Shit takes up a sizable amount of screentime, is incredibly boring, and downright confusing for casual fans who aren't familiar with League. Season 1 received a lot of praise for being extremely compelling for non-gamers, but Season 2 has gone the opposite route. It also eats up valuable screentime that could be used for the Piltover/Zaun characters and narrative. A lot of people wanted Mel to survive because they thought her story could be interesting, but now I'm thinking she should've just been killed by that damn rocket. Along with Salo and that other Councilor lady. Seriously, only 3 people being killed by Jinx's rocket is such pathetic plot armour that undercut all the tension of Season 1's finale cliffhanger. They couldn't even give her a Pentakill🙄 Salo, a terrible minor character, takes up a lot of valuable screentime too.

Also if they omitted the new characters. Maddie is unnecessary. There were more organic ways to provide conflict for Caitvi than another love interest. Isha is unnecessary. There were more organic ways to provide development for Jinx and trigger the Caitvi breakup. Why was a random new kid the reason for their breakup, and not Jinx? The dynamic and conflicts between these three ladies were so perfectly set up in Season 1. Why throw that away and add a new character to achieve something which could've been achieved with pre-existing characters we already know? So Vi was perfectly okay with a girl she knew for 3 days murdering her own sister, but a rando mute kid is where she drew the line? Lol.

Cutting down on Jinx's screentime would also help. It's not like all her scenes were doing her character any favours either. Rather than the active protagonist she used to be who drove the plot forward, she is now relegated to bouncing around, mellow and passive. She had already reached the climax of her arc in Season 1's finale. She chose to be Jinx, hell-bent on destroying Piltover. Why is she still having an identity crisis in Season 2 and suddenly reluctant to fight Piltover? Give that damn screentime to other characters. Vi barely gets any organic development. Her entire character gets reduced to being hung-up on Caitlyn and then her story with Warwick rushed to the extreme. Again, you have only NINE episodes for your FINAL season. Not 25 episodes in a 10 season show. When you have this little screentime to work with, you have to be willing to part with beloved ideas, cut down on fluff, leave plenty of shit on the cutting room floor. If they weren't willing to do that, then making only 9 episodes and 2 seasons was the wrong choice.

This is a long post but I just wanted to share my personal thoughts on what went wrong and suggestions on how it could have been improved. This is all just my opinion.

do you recommend watching The Originals?

I've been here thinking about this for a few minutes. The answer is... depends? lol I know some people who really like The Originals, so it's hard to say that you should or shouldn't watch it. It really depends on what kind of thing you're looking for and where do you draw a line.

Personally, I have a lot of issues with TO lol And back when it was still airing and I was watching it as the episodes came out, I abandoned it halfway through S3 because I got to a point where the very far and few good parts were no longer making it worth my while. A lot of people think S3 is the best season, I think it's by far the worst one lol So you see how it really depends.

But I do like it that I watched it in end, even though it took me a few years. It gives me authority that I know exactly what I'm talking about when I shit talk it lol also whenever people who can't stand the show have a canon-related question, they come to me because I watched it some 200 times so other people don't have to suffer through it, and I think that's beautiful 😂😂

Here's a simple pros vs cons list *in my opinion*: Pros: it's more Mikaelson screen time, so there's that. That are some plot lines that had potential, although almost none of them are well executed. Seasons 1 and 2 are actually kind of ok. S3 and 4 Klaus hair is 🤌🤌🤌 The WILD CURLS ERA! I'm a simple girl, you give me Klaus in tight Henley shirts with curly curls, I'm in. There are some great family moments scattered throughout the seasons, some really cool scenes that make you think 'wow, this could've been a great show' (right before you get pissed off that it wasn't). Daniel Sharman's Kol is, IMHO, the superior Kol (I don't like Nate Buzz's acting). Jomo really delivers as Klaus regardless the whole bullshittery around him and gets some great chances to just be a little shit, which I love. There are some great Klaroline moments (and not just in S5). And in spite of my overall feelings for TO, one of my favorite all-time TVDverse characters is from there: Vincent Griffith. I love him to bits. I also really like Marcel, even though he becomes a glorified extra after S1, and Jackson. Also, if you're really into werewolves, this is really the show where they get any screen time. I'm not saying it's good, but at least it's there (and no, Klaus never turns into a wolf, it makes no sense).

Cons: Really bad, inconsistent writing. Some seasons have storylines that just die out of nowhere for no reason (*cough*season 3*cough*). The whole premise of the show is insane (there was absolutely no need for Hope when Marcel is right there). The crossovers with TVD are very poorly done and very glaring opportunities go unexplored (like at the end of S1). Rebekah drops out pretty soon into the show. Elijah changes personality at least once every season to the point where, by the end of the show, they just retcon him completely. The finale is RIDICULOUS. Season 4 was written by someone on a wild acid trip, season 5 is really not worth your time AT ALL (except for the Klaroline moments). Female characters are very badly treated (pretty standard in the TVDverse, but anyway). Klamille is a thing, although, as with everything else, it's so badly done it's only marginally there. There are a lot of retcons and rewritings of the show's own mythology, which is annoying. And it's just... Bad. I don't know what to say, it just never lived up to the hype of what a show about the Original family could've been or what TVD had been at its peak. It's never, ever even remotely as good as TVD was around S2-3, not even at its best moments.

Those are my personal opinions, anyway. I'm sure others might feel different, but each to their own. It's really about you considering whether or not that's something you might enjoy or if it will at least be worth your time. Maybe start it and see how you feel? Worst case scenario, at least you get to see more of Klaus prancing around New Orleans.

Also, the first episode of TO is different from the backdoor pilot in TVD. That's more of a Klaus POV one, while the one in TO is more an Elijah POV.

So last night, on a whim, I did a quick analysis spreadsheet on this DVD I own from the "Best Of WB" selection that's supposed to be a celebration of the, at the time, 50th anniversary of Scooby-Doo

I wanted to see the distribution of shows represented, and found this information

Some interesting points of this data:

What's New and Mystery Incorporated are tied for the most episodes at 10 each. I guess those were considered the most iconic series at the time in 2019, or at the very least the easiest to pick episodes from. All of the Mystery Inc episodes I clicked into had a previously on segment upfront, so you could watch any of them without prior knowledge

The era with the least representation is the Scrappy era. I guess they still assume folks dislike the guy, though at least their exclusion of the second version of Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo can be boiled down to that show being in a 3 minute shorts format while all the rest are in 11/22 minute chunks. The lack of 13 Ghosts is less excusable imo as that was the first Scooby show with an overarching plot which is pretty important imo. I guess it didn't have premade "previously on" segments and they didnt want folks to get lost?

The 2 guest star based shows are both fully omitted. There's a few reasons for TNSDMovies to be treated that way: 1) Home Media rights issues have plagued the series for a long time as all the contracts for it were created before there even was home media. The fact that theres an almost complete set now at all is a miracle, and I imagine there was no good way to get those included on here without more negotiations. 2) Those episodes are all about 45 minutes, which is part of why that series is called movies. 3) With the exception of Batman no one knows those guest stars. Sorry lol. As for Guess Who, which avoids all those issues with its full rights to home media, standard run time, and Current guest stars, there's still one good reason for its exclusion: it didnt come out til after this disc

This set is split across 5 discs and there is no organization to them at all. sometimes you'll get a disc with 3 Mystery Inc eps in a row immediately followed by a Where Are You. I guess they didn't want to make the distribution as obvious.

Speaking of distribution, the set is notably advertised as being a celebration of all 50 years of Scooby-Doo. So how well is each year represented?

It seems despite What's New and Mystery Inc both beating out Where Are You in episode counts, they both had release schedules that were much more drawn out, so 1969 is the most represented year, as its where the bulk of WAY was released.

The years not present in this sheet are ones that never showed up on the disc. Some of that is due to lack of Scooby content released (the biggest gap in that is between 1991 and 2002, where no shows were released. The reason all of the APNSD eps come from 88 and 89 is because the last two seasons suffer from weird quality issues even on that series' complete release) and some of it is the complete ommission of shows as seen above.

What does all of this mean? WB considers Where Are You, What's New, and Mystery Incorporated to be the most notable entries in the franchise, with The Scooby-Doo Show (which is partially WAY and also where all the villains in Cyber Chase are from) and A Pup Named Scooby-Doo (which is where we get Norville and Coolsville from) fairly close behind. The rest are all set dressing, which is not bad to be clear, just not as important.

Oh also cause I have to with this franchise, no consideration was made by whoever was choosing this list as to cultural or racial sensitivity. Quite a few of the WAY eps have Native caricature villains and one of the 2 eps of Get A Clue included has a genuinely wild caricature of an Asian man as its villain. 2019 man.

I made Eps 8 and 9 at the same time, out of a mosaic of scenes that occur across 2 Chapters (~5 hours) of Remake. Down to 10 minutes! I’m in there re-angling the camera because sometimes there’s daylight outside lol. I did more color correcting than ever, and I’m getting a little better I think!

[Chapter 3] Scene 1-5: Sector 7 Slums Here we see more NPCs altered by the “Train NPCs” mod by FantasyRaiderr. I use a low angle shot to try and evoke the iconic Pillar introduction scene from the OG. The music is On That Day, Five Years Ago from EC.

[Chapter 3] Scene 6-7: Seventh Heaven The music here is Tifa’s Theme from EC. There's a new mod, too: "Tifa Fitness" by VargrNekrodes.

The shots of Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie at the table are from a later scene in Remake’s Chapter 3 (Scene 26). You can see a continuity error in some of the shots (an empty hi-top in the background). I try to use the camera when I can to imply that there are two hi-tops, one empty, one with AVALANCHE. Let me know what you noticed!

Scene 8: Barret and Marlene All the shots of Barret walking here he is doing so while holding Marlene -- even when he's outside of the bar! I had to film around her, erasing her with **movie magic.** Barret and the pinball machine is actually from much further scenes in 7R (23/26).

An added line of dialogue (“See you down there, Cloud!”) helps with the illusion that Biggs and Wedge are using the pinball machine as well, but in 7R they never do.

Scene 23: Tifa and Cloud Jumping ahead in the chapter, there were a few shots in this exchange which are from (Scene 18, part of Remake’s extended content). Continuity errors include a randomized number of drinks in front of Cloud, between 0-2. Coverage for that final exchange was done using the worldstate in Scene 7, and since Cloud never uses the pinball machine in Remake, I cheated with a vertical pan.

Scene ???: The Secret Hideout!!! This scene couldn’t be filmed the way I would have liked, because the basement wasn't actually made in Remake. My options were to hand-animate it, or pan the camera across the scenery like it's Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Tifa’s blocking here is taken from Scenes 8 and 23, and the shots with a dynamic FOV were filmed using the camera for Scene 26.

The music here is a musical cue that plays in 7R when you approach Sector 7, I put it through some filters and applied a record crackle underneath, to make it seem diagetic, like it’s playing out of the jukebox or the radio.

On to Episode 009...

[Chapter 03] Scene 25 I loved this blocking from Remake - the bartender wordlessly downs a whole drink, then pours herself another, all in a tense silence. Great start to a dramatic argument.

If you rewatch this scene after learning the mystery behind Final Fantasy VII’s story, you may notice hidden tones and meanings. To facilitate all the foreshadowing here, I slowed the pace down.

[Chapter 04] Scene 16: The Promise In Remake, this flashback occurs during an expanded quest. I’ll leave 7R to be enjoyed in its proper context. Here, as in OG, the flashback serves as the climax of Cloud and Tifa’s fight, prompting his sudden change of heart. I’m using Remake’s Tifa’s Theme variation, where the piano takes the lead and the flute/oboe play around it. Gorgeous.

Final Thoughts These two episodes took weeks of constant toil. At times I wanted to give up or move to another project, but I powered through and I’m proud of myself! I dream that these episodes could be better, but I’m not the person who can do that. Yet. So I’m moving ahead towards the next episodes, which will be much more simple and fun to edit.

After completing the “pilot” (Episodes 1-7) I started planning out the rest of “Season 1” aka the part of FFVII’s story that can be produced using Remake. At this time it’s a planned 45 episodes, which means we are 1/5 of the way through! I’ve completed the preliminary filming for the whole season, and while the last ten episodes present several unique challenges, I am going to push to have the season completed by the end of 2025. Then I can look at remaking episodes using what I’ll have learned, or moving on to Season 2.

Okay, a good amount of time has passed, and after having seen this post by @weretiger-be-my-horse , I've been turning it over and over in my brain going absolutely feral over this concept. I need to expand upon my thoughts on this idea and all the evidence there is pointing towards it, whether that be actual tangible things, or purely strong vibes I have.

First of all, full disclaimer: I did not like the season 5 finale, and how it wrapped up the DoA arc. To say that I "disliked" it is putting it extremely lightly, in fact -- I absolutely hated it, and I am still, to a degree, in disbelief that I actually even watched those 24 minutes with my own two eyes, and that it somehow wasn't a complete fever dream. While I'm not going to go in long-winded detail into all the ways that I feel like the finale almost completely bastardized all of its featured characters and destroyed any and all buildup we've had going on in this arc for 50 some chapters now, because that's not the main point of this post, I will not make any attempt to hide the fact that the theory-crafting I'm about to pose here is partly influenced and prompted by how much I hated the finale, and how much I desperately hope that it will not end up being manga canon. Therefore, if you enjoyed the finale — and that's fine! — and don't want to read any negativity about it, then I would not recommend reading any further (I mean, you've probably already left by this point, which is fair lol), While obviously it's important that I be as objective and unbiased as possible when explaining my thoughts, some of my negative feelings about the writing will be a part of this analysis, even if this isn't going to be a full-blown rant. Just know that if you proceed.

With that out of the way, let me continue.

So. In the aforementioned post, the theory presented is that the anime may be operating on an alternate timeline, and that this will become evident once we read the upcoming October chapter, wherein things will go completely differently post-chapter 110 than they do in the final episode — probably for the worse, with the s5 finale intending to lull us into a false sense of security and make us assume that everything in the manga arc finale will wrap up as smoothly and consequence-freely(? lol) as it did in the anime one. It also suggests that the Fukuchi we see at the very end that sskk are fighting came from the manga timeline, where he won, and that he used the Book to jump to a timeline where he lost, the anime one, proven by the fact that this Fukuchi is wearing a mask with the same design on it as the mask Fukuchi is wearing on the chapter 110 DoA color spread/title page.

First of all, I want to note the fact that it's not just the mask design that's the same: the entire outfit is roughly more or less the same as well. It's not completely 1-to-1, because the anime can never fully match the intricacies of Harukawa's beautiful outfit designs, and the Fukuchi in this scene has the kimono half-off because of the... super saiyan mode he's in, but most all of the main pieces of clothing are there. Any small inaccuracies could also be attributed to the fact that Harukawa probably didn't have this finalized art ready back when this episode was being made, so the animators wouldn't have had the complete design to work off of. But in general, because it's all so similar, I think we can quite confidently say that the ending episode Fukuchi is meant to be the one from this manga art.

Also, people have pointed this out, but it's worth mentioning that the mask Asagiri wore at Anime Expo in July was referencing this Fukuchi. It's not a crucial detail, but it just proves more that Asagiri is a gigantic fucking troll, and that he clearly wanted to draw attention to this Fukuchi design. It's important. He describes the mask here as made in the motif of an ellipses inside a speech bubble... could that perhaps be referencing meta aspects, like the Book?

Next, I want to talk about the even bigger elephant in the room, which to me is the most damning and undeniable piece of evidence there is of the anime operating on a completely separate timeline from the manga:

This Fucking Hand™️

As we all know, in the anime, Fyodor injures his hand when the password input device blows up, and as we all know, this does not happen in the manga. In the last episode, Dazai claims that the final nail in the coffin of his impromptu plan to kill Fyodor relied on this hand injury: because Fyodor couldn't pilot his escape helicopter himself, he would ask one of his Meursault vampires to do it for him, unaware that Bram and thus this vampire was now on the ADA's side, and said vampire could kill him while his guard was down.

Ignoring how utterly stupid and contrived this plan is when you stop and think about it for more than two seconds, the fact of the matter is that something that initially seemed like nothing more than an odd but inconsequential anime original addition ended up snowballing into being the entire reason one of the big bads was brought down. If Fyodor hadn't hurt his hand, he wouldn't have needed another pilot, and so the traitor vampire wouldn't have had an opportunity to get near him and kill him without him expecting it even though said vampire was presumably with him as they were leaving Meursault, and was probably already a traitor by then, so there was plenty opportunity for him to still die. not to mention by Chuuya's hands at literally any time he wanted to, because Chuuya was coherent the whole time. Also there's absolutely no way Dazai could have known exactly what Ranpo would do, no matter how smart he is and how much he trusts him. idk it's fucking dumb, just roll with it. Therefore, putting aside all other variables for now, we can conclude that, on the most basic level, this signifies that no hand wound = no death.

And let me tell you, this hand wound bothers me. It really, really does. Because they focus on it a LOT — they go out of their way to draw attention to it MULTIPLE TIMES, from the moment it first happens to the end of the season. Fyodor even talks about it to himself, about Dazai being able to cause him tangible, visible, bodily harm, (something that, again, as far as we've seen, has never happened in the manga). Hell, even after Fyodor's death, they're still drawing attention to it, because his right arm is all of him that survives, and Dazai picks it up and gives it to Nikolai to do his hilarious sad little gay fondling of it played completely straight even though there's nothing straight going on here at all! It's like it's a big red flashing sign at all times going "you see this injured hand? This is important. Are you picking up that it's important? Are you taking note of it?" Why is that? Obviously, it serves to give us the lore crumbs about Fyodor and "that man", but that's hardly the main, much more glaring reason, as I've already mentioned.

Fyodor doesn't hurt his hand in the manga. Fyodor won't die here in the manga. I am so dead serious by this point about this, and it's not just simply the fact that this was absolutely not at all the time for him to die, or the fact that his hand is the reason for his death in the anime in and of itself, but how much EMPHASIS they place on this, and on the hand in general. What would be the point of adding something like this, if it's not meant to alert us to the fact that it has a major impact on how the story plays out? We all know Bones: they struggle to get right and include everything that's already there in the source material; they would never go out of their way to add something this noteworthy if there wasn't a very good reason for it, if it wasn't absolutely necessary. I've seen a few people bring up the fact that Fyodor gets shot in the shoulder by Sigma and that that could lead to the same outcome in the manga, but I disagree: although he has blood on his shoulder in the manga, it seems like the bullet just grazed the top of it, because his arm and hand appears completely functional afterwards (not hanging limp by his side or anything). But that doesn't even matter, because this isn't even about the semantics/logistics of how the hand wound caused Fyodor's death because again, it's a stupid outcome, or what could serve as a substitute in the manga — thematically, this is a textbook example of the butterfly effect. Countless parallel universes exist within this series, ones where even the most minute differences lead to a majorly different outcome: this just happens to be one of them. There's no reason to think it isn't, and there's no reason to not think that the anime wants us to clue into the fact that things only went as smoothly as they did on the Meursault side because of this wound; in other words, that things will go very differently in the manga thanks to the absence of said wound. They wouldn't have added it in the first place and put such clearly deliberate emphasis on it otherwise.

Things are going to happen very differently in the manga, at least when it comes to the Meursault crew (but then, if you assume that, you then naturally assume it all will be very different). This is the only conclusion one can come to with the presentation of this anime-only wound, combined with the fact that parallel universes are a very real thing in BSD.

I'm going to go on a bit of a tangent, so bear with me. I play a lot of visual novels, and although such concepts aren't really as original now as they were a while ago, some of my favorite and some of the very best VNs out there are the ones that break the fourth wall and make the visual novel branching route format directly intertwined with the story: you know, the ones where the characters go "if only I had done things differently, maybe everything would have turned out better...!" in a wink wink nudge nudge moment, and the ones where the characters are aware of the different timelines, even, or even have the ability to gain information from their selves in said alternate timelines to influence events in their current one (I'm intentionally not naming the games I'm thinking of for the sake of spoilers, but if you know, you know lmao). It gets very meta in this regard, and this is how I started viewing BSD through the lens of ever since I first learned about Beast: like a visual novel with many branching routes, and only a few routes that feel entirely "right".

When I first read Dazai's Entrance Exam, I was struck by how unnerving the ending sequence in the abandoned hospital felt. Obviously, Kunikida's internal struggle over Sasaki's actions and motives is him still desperately clinging to his ideal world that does not exist, but the specific type of phrases he uses — "who is wrong?" "[who is] the cause of all this?" "there has to be an ideal world" "there has to be something, I'm sure of it" "There must have been something we could have done!" — and the framing of the scene in general, is eerily reminiscent of a bad ending in a visual novel, to me. There's a haunting, looming, bleak sense that a different outcome could have been achieved, if different decisions had been made, or if things outside of anyone's control had been different... and we know that this is true, because in Beast alone, Kunikida never goes through the Azure Messenger incident, because Dazai doesn't have his entrance exam. Hell, you could even consider the anime's version of the Azure Messenger arc an alternate timeline in of itself, if you really wanted to, long before we even arrive at season 5.

When it comes to Beast, this timeline has almost the opposite feeling of what I described above, that I've also encountered in visual novels: the idea of a "good route" or "good ending" that still doesn't feel quite earned, or as perfect as one would expect. Beast is presented as the "ideal" timeline purely for one sole reason: Oda is alive. It is the only timeline where he's alive, and keeping Oda alive is the ultimate goal Dazai wants to achieve, the only reason this timeline exists; therefore, disregarding all else, Beast should be the best timeline, because Oda's death is the greatest devastation in the series to date. We all want him to live, so why wouldn't the timeline where he does be the best one? And yet... of course, it isn't. Dazai is alone, and steeped in darkness and loneliness without Oda, and dies by the end of the story for Oda's continued living. Atsushi has Kyouka still, but he's suffering and more traumatized, and unable to heal while stuck in the mafia, and neither can Kyouka. Akutagawa is living a much better life in the ADA... but without his sister, and without what he has from his bond with Atsushi in canon, that isn't replicated in Beast. And Oda... Oda is alive, and he has his children and his novel, but there is a feeling that he is aimless, that something in his life is missing. He has everything he ever wanted, but all that means nothing without what he truly needs: Dazai, and his time with Dazai and Ango at the bar. In this way, things going well and us getting what we want — in this case, Oda living — goes against how it's supposed to be, the natural order, which is why it feels so hollow. In the specific visual novel I'm thinking of here as a comparison (again, shoutout if you know), there's an alternate ending that involves you inputting information you gain at the end of the game very early on in the game, wherein the protagonist now has memories of the future and is able to bypass and prevent all of the events that take place normally. This means that people who die or are hurt somehow in general are saved from that fate, and nothing bad ever occurs; everything wraps up neatly and nicely... but again, there's an undeniable, unsettling feeling of emptiness, of a victory that rings hollow, because what's the point if everything is simply handed to you easily, where's the sense of accomplishment, without any struggles to achieve said victories, or any growth along the way? How can it feel earned if one doesn't have to, in Dazai's words, "scream within the storm of uncertainty, and run with flowing blood"?

You can probably already see where I'm going with this.

This finale feels weird. Really, really weird. It feels too cheap, too simple, too unsatisfying. So much so, in fact, that for almost the entire runtime, as I was bombarded with resolution upon resolution one after another, I kept thinking "There's no way this can be real. Where's the catch? When is the "gotcha!" moment gonna happen? The "it was all a dream" reveal?". And this isn't just because I hated the writing, and that it really did feel like a fever dream watching fanfic levels of bad (actually, that's an insult to fanfic writers, tbh; they could do better) — no, it genuinely feels so incredibly fake. Even upon rewatching it and already knowing what happens, my brain still naturally keeps expecting some kinda of "sike, you THOUGHT!" moment to suddenly appear. It just.... feels "too good to be true". Dazai and Chuuya come out unscathed, and it's revealed that they were never in any real danger to begin with. Fyodor, one of our biggest threats, is dealt with supposedly for good (I say "supposedly" only because of the Jesus line, but if anything imo, I think that's just a hint that this won't be the canon ending in the manga, so in a sense he's going to "come back to life"), and Nikolai seems somewhat at peace with his death. The other biggest threat, Fukuchi, is also dealt with, and he and Fukuzawa get their final moment together of closure. Yes, Sigma is left in Meursault don't even get me started on how angry this alone makes me, and Fukuzawa loses Fukuchi, but overall, everything is portrayed in a positive light, and any negatives or losses are quickly glossed over. Everything is tied up nicely, neatly, and smoothly. ...And that is exactly what makes it feel so wrong, and hard to trust in.

I'm not sure if this will make sense, but to me, the finale is so incredibly poorly written that it almost feels.... intentional. It's so bad to the point of feeling self-aware in how bad it is, how unrealistically happy and convenient an ending it is. It had to end this neatly in order to rush to wrap up this arc for the season finale and not leave the last episode on a cliffhanger — which imo is chiefly the main reason it turned out this way, and, if this whole theory is true, Asagiri just used it to his advantage — and I'm not saying this was probably an effect Bones had in mind intentionally, I'm sure they just threw shit at the wall and went with whatever stuck, maaaaybe with some suggestions/approval from Asagiri, but the result is that you have a conclusion that contradicts so much of what was set up before and goes against so many character arcs, making some characters so out of character and even regressing in their development Dazai. I'm talking about Dazai abandoning Sigma, because he would never; hashtag #NOTMYDAZAI. Also Nikolai, Nikolai for most of that is so ooc I can't even begin to describe it oh my god. Everyone is OOC to a degree though lmao, and opens so many plot holes, to the point that it's impossible not to watch all that and get the feeling that it is subtly saying to you "did you really think it could be this easy? It feels wrong, doesn't it? It doesn't feel satisfying. It feels unearned." I find it incredibly interesting and suspicious in particular that they confirmed multiple theories people had about soukoku in Meursault: that Chuuya slowed the elevator's fall so that Dazai wouldn't die from it, that Chuuya slowed down the bullet so that it only penetrated Dazai's skin and not his skull, and that the both of them used Fyodor's camera angle to their advantage because they knew he wouldn't be able to see certain things from his view. I'm not saying that Asagiri trawled BSD twitter and tumblr after those chapters dropped for the most popular theories before the final episode was made lmao, there was no time for that (imagine though lol—), but I do think it's highly likely that he already had in mind exactly what theories would be made about these parts (I mean, the evidence for the gun scene was all there), and that Dazai rattling them off in his long monologue to Fyodor at the end is essentially him speaking to the audience and going "yeah, that's what you would predict, right? Those are the clichés, after all", much like him suggesting earlier that he can maybe bring Chuuya back to himself with a few moving words and the power of friendship, and Fyodor using the split personalities trope to fool Sigma. We expect these tropes to be true. Of course we'd fall for them, as Fyodor tells Sigma, especially if the evidence is right there. But Asagiri himself has explicitly said that he likes doing the opposite of what people expect. And so just because people predicted correctly with the three things I mentioned in this timeline... doesn't mean they'll be true in the manga's. Things happened how we wanted and expected it to, and everything turned out happily. So we can relax now, right? Everything will work out just as easily in the manga, right? Or... is the reason most of this finale feels so fake and unsettling and unsatisfying because it's meant to lull us into a false sense of security before all our heroes lose in the manga? Because deep down, we don't want an ending that's this simple, because we'd rather have a conclusion where our characters have struggled more and grown more and come out the better for it, and we know it?

After rewatching the episode a lot, and watching some other videos, and doing a lot of thinking, I am pretty confident in suspecting that the only part of this finale that is actually from manga canon, aside from Aya jumping off the building of course, is Fyodor and Nikolai's exchange after Fyodor leaves Meursault — specifically, them talking about Fyodor leaving Sigma behind, and their "new game" and Nikolai being excited at the prospect of it. This little conversation actually feels in character for them, and it's easy to tell this when contrasting it with everything that happens immediately after, wherein Fyodor is fatally stabbed, and Nikolai, completely at odds with what he was just talking about, just... stands there and watches Fyodor die while Dazai monologues lmao. I'm not sure if the helicopter is still a factor, but I would bet good money on Fyolai getting out of Meursault being manga canon, and that Dazai and Chuuya getting out as well and killing Fyodor + everything with FukuFuku, is part of the anime original ending, in order to wrap up everything positively. It makes much more sense if you think about, in reality (aka in the manga), Dazai and Chuuya still being left behind in Meursault (where they can eventually try to get Sigma), because none of it was an act and things did not go according to plan, and Fukuchi having an entirely different goal that doesn't feel so stupid and contradictory to his character, and Fukuzawa possibly dying — everyone seemingly loses, with Aya still being the last hope, perhaps by awakening her ability like we all speculated.

There's a youtuber I watch who covers BSD in-depth, despite being an anime-only (she reads the respective manga content after each season, though). Going into this finale, she knew about the fact that the anime had overtaken the manga, though she didn't know where the cutoff point was; despite that, however, she made predictions about what was from the manga so far and what was anime original, and it was almost entirely spot-on, based mostly on what she basically described as "anime original dialogue." She talked about how you can always tell when dialogue is veering into the realm of anime-original, because the sentences are very short, choppy, and slightly out of character, but generic enough to not be TOO out of character, and so that anyone can easily write said lines, even if they're not extremely familiar with the character like the original author would be. And when I heard this explanation, everything clicked — because so much of this finale has dialogue like that. The Fyolai scenes just feel peppered with it, around the lines I mentioned earlier, the Dazai dialogue does too, and ESPECIALLY shit at the end like Fukuchi and Fukuzawa exchanging the cliche death lines to end all death lines: "Are you there? I'm a little tired." "Rest up." That just isn't Bungou Stray Dogs. That isn't Asagiri. BSD is cheesy at times, yes, but it isn't like this; it's smarter. The dialogue is smarter, the explanations/plot twists are smarter, Asagiri is smarter, and the aforementioned youtuber I watched agreed. She's a pretty casual fan of the series, so if even she could pick up on these things, I think it speaks volumes.

I mentioned this briefly earlier, but this theory makes sense if you consider that this situation probably came about because of Bones wanting two seasons back-to-back when they did, and this arc being as long as it is. Season 3 aired in 2019, and I imagine Bones would have wanted season 4 in 2020, and might have then been willing to wait a bit longer for season 5 in order for more of this arc's manga chapters to come out — but then covid happened. Because of that, season 4 was delayed to 2023, creating the longest gap we've had between seasons, and I wouldn't at all be surprised if the delay made them want season 5 right together with it, after getting so far "behind", so to speak. S4 was announced in November of 2021, and roughly around that time, Asagiri was finishing up writing the plot of the DoA arc. If Bones came to him sometime in late 2021 and said they wanted two seasons now (so basically, one giant two cour season), Asagiri would know that not only of course would this arc not be finished publishing in the manga for a very long time yet, but that roughly 20ish episodes would not be enough to cover it all to the end, with this arc being longer than any arc the anime has adapted to date. Because of all this, and the arc manga chapters being nowhere near fully drawn to completion, he'd have to make a decision about what to do, and what to give Bones. Without ending season 5 on a massive cliffhanger that wouldn't be resolved for years until an eventual season 6, the only other option would be to rush towards an anime-original ending for the DoA arc.... and for Asagiri to take advantage of that, and integrate it into BSD's lore. Thereby creating a truly unique cross-media experience that utilizes the different mediums to create multiple timelines, that could make both the anime and manga interact with each other and become part of a bigger picture (not that you'd need to see both to get the full experience, mind you, just that it'd provide a little bonus if you did).... and would without a doubt be Asagiri's biggest surprise yet.

...I feel like at this point I'm starting to ramble, and my evidence become more and more incoherent and less substantial lmao, so I should probably end this post. 💀 Thank you if you've read this far, and hopefully it made some semblance of sense, despite not being structured very well; I know I promised at the start to try to be as objective as possible and curb my negative feelings, but I'm not sure how well I succeeded in that regard. If it weren't for the Fukuchi thing and the Fyodor hand thing, I probably wouldn't take how wrong and strange and bad the finale feels to me as serious evidence about it being an alternate timeline, especially since I seem to be one of the only people who actually hates all of it.... but combined with everything else, I am just so convinced of this theory being true. It started off as pure copium, but as more time has gone on, I fully, 100% believe in my bones (ha) that there is no way that finale is the same Bungou Stray Dogs I know and love, for so many reasons. It just isn't. It can't be. I know BSD better than this, I know Asagiri better than this, and I know that it's absolutely in the realm of possibility for him to cook up this whole scheme to completely blindside us with in the upcoming chapters, because that's exactly the kind of shit Mr. "Please Be Surprised!" himself would pull. If I end up being completely wrong, I guess I'm wrong, and you can laugh at me all you want then.... but I just know that ages ago people were teasing the idea of the anime operating on a different timeline from the manga, and I truly do think that only now are we finally seeing that idea come to fruition, as a setup for Asagiri going full-bore insanity with the Book in the upcoming arc(s). if I and the OP of that theory end up right, this will be the wildest time in the BSD fandom's history.

Like. I cannot even emphasize how hard they are trolling us at this point. Something is going on. Something is being cooked over there, the likes of which we've never seen before... and I don't think any of us are ready for it.

Oh yeah, and one last thing of note: both Fyodor and Nikolai here have their right arms hidden from view. Is that alluding to anything? I'm not sure. I also think that since chapter 110 was so short, next chapter will likely be 110.5 instead of 111, and if that's the case, this title spread could still technically be associated with the next chapter... wherein we might see this Fukuchi, who ends up wreaking havoc, right before he jumps to the timeline in the anime, as we see him at the end of the s5 finale.

I guess we'll find out on Tuesday.

I wanted to wait a bit (also got busy at work lol) to avoid any spoilers for anyone who don't watch Episode 6 and last one for a while... I don't know how I'm gonna cope with it tbh... I'm following 23.5 and other web series but tbh... never on the level of Blank... I have to admit that GAP did it first but Blank did it better... which, no shade to GAP because FreenBecky, my beloved, chemistry was so good too!

And to clarify, GAP the series also had its own set of problems, most of them regarding money and locations, but what they did, opened the door for more GLs. Some, with good and bad executions, but that's up to each person and their preferences to decide!

BUT ENOUGH OF GAP (the perfect GL, to me!) Let's talk about BLANK!

As a start... I didn't like that they began from when Aneung knocked on Neung's door... it ate like 4 more minutes with them, plus they didn't keep the same tension.

On Episode 5, the tension was felt thanks to the zoom on their faces that lasted quite a good amount of seconds and Faye's minuscule lean.

This time it was cut and then bam! KISS! (NOT THAT I'M COMPLAINING!)

I'm not gonna go on full detail because I believe we all watched the episode, there are a few technical things I want to point out but I won't because nah! There was some foreshadowing to the doom that was to come... and no, I don't say this as a person who has read the book 🤭

I will go straight to that last part...

I had to go back to read that last part in the book because I wanted to keep this as accurate as I can.

So, throughout the episode, we see Aneung's family praising how good of a Role Model Neung is for Aneung. This is the first red flag. Then we see Neung still having doubts about their age gap which I find normal in this setting, because it can happen. This is the second red flag.

The final nail to the coffin, and the one I think everyone should consider whenever questioning WHY Neung broke this as cruel as she did, is that she thought she used Aneung as a way to distract her own pain.

In the book, and the reason why I re-read it, Neung sounds more detached, more out of the moment, and at some point even more aggressive about it. In the series, Neung, although also feeling out of the moment, the scene takes a more soft and romantic approach. They show us Neung's walls falling and accepting that she does indeed love Aneung.

Also, the "brake up" is harsher. Feels like a slap.

Now, we have to consider that in the book, right after their love making Aneung goes to school, everything seems fine, heavy, but good enough. Things happen, that I won't reveal because it could be spoilers, but one of those things is that Fah calls Neung about the funeral and everything. Fah is the one telling Neung that she trusts Neung, she's a role model, and she knows she will take care of Aneung.

Here, there is something I wanted to point out. To hear Fah say it, right after what happened it's what triggers Neung to break Aneung's heart. As logical as Neung is, that is the conclusion she gets after everything.

Aneung is young, thus can fall in love again with someone around her age. This is the conclusion Neung forms in her head. Plus, she sees something else that triggers a reaction. Something we will see in season 2 😆 so, no spoilers but maybe some of you can imagine what.

Neung is very logical, very cutthroat, and as stubborn as their grandmother. We have to remember that, as the eldest, she was trained to be the next heir. So, her life was very, very different. If you see any royal family, the image they project is one of perfection. So, it's no wonder that Neung learnt how to mask her feelings. If something hurts, hurt it back a thousand times worse. Or better yet, just ignore it.

Neung, just like Sam after she became the heir, prefers avoid her feelings because she knows caring equals pain. So, why bother?

There's a whole process Neung does before she goes to Aneung, in the book.

But I have to admit that the series spin was chef kiss! I'm sure that Neung, after waking up, was blaming herself for letting things escalate so quickly.

I will defend Neung with my whole heart because the traumas she carries makes her scared. And like a feral animal, the only way she knows how to defend herself is attacking. She pushes and pushes until she proves to herself that she is right. Everyone leaves.

I could continue rambling and going and just word spit things, but I have to sleep 🤣🤣🤣
