Librarian!Dream from your cryptid Dream series is actually Retired!Dream who kept some semblance of his power and Hob is still immortal, he's just been meeting Death instead of Dream every century and thats why he isn't as freaked out by the supernatural as he should be, calling the shots right now
who's to say, really....
will I ever confirm what's "up" with Dream in this au? idk... maybe not :) it's much more fun to leave it all vague and hinted at and to let anyone who reads it imagine what they like

Read your newest part of the retired!dream, loved it! Dream finally knowing what it feels to be truly loved was so heartwarming🥺. I'm a bit lost though, when did Dream get that scar? He said he kept it but I don't remember in the comics him getting injured
Aaaw thank you! I put Dream through the wringer in my last fic, so I guess he deserves the happiness he gets in this AU. :'DD
Re: the scar on Morpheus' cheek, that's actually a GREAT question, but I'm afraid we're going into spoiler territory for this one. So this is a fair warning to anyone and everyone who might see this and not want the Sandman Comics spoiled. Spoilers Zone from here on out:
You're sorta correct on Morpheus never getting injured in the comics. The Endless are more than humans, more than gods. It would take an entirely eldritch and primordial being to hurt the Seven enough to make them bleed.
Which is why the one time Endless blood WAS SPILT, it was both blood-curdling and terrifying, because YOU KNOW that it is a grievous threat indeed.
Dream gets the scar on his cheek during The Kindly Ones (volume 9). When he goes to Nuala after she called him for a boon, the Furies through Lyta Hall were able to enter the Dreaming so they may destroy it. After he comes back, Dream confronts them and demands them to leave; in retaliation they struck him with their barbed scorpion whip on his cheek.

Below is what the scar looks like up close.

In the next few panels Lucien actually asks him if he would be keeping the scar. In turn he says this:
Tumblr media
And (hoooo boy prepare yourselves for this one) until his last conversation with Death, you can actually see that Dream still DOES have the scar here. He has it until he... well, you know what happens after this conversation.
Tumblr media
The scar is quite significant arc-wise for Dream. In the panels above he says that Alianora foretold that he would receive two scars: one on the cheek, one on the heart, the way he did to her. This is expounded on in Sandman: Overture, where Alianora, his former lover, got a scar on her cheek when she defended and rescued Dream from the two gods who held him prisoner. (Of course, the scar in her heart was when Dream tire of her and grew cold and distant. Seriously, if anyone reading this hasn't read Overture yet, check it out. It'll reframe everything you know about the original comics in the best, most heart-breaking way possible.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the AU, while I'm keeping the details of HOW Dream gets to walk away very vague, I'd like to think that most of the events during The Kindly Ones STILL happened. I'd also like to think he kept the scar because while his self-destructive spiral was averted, Dream still hasn't fully healed and processed his issues, and thus considers it to be a literal symbol of self-flagellation. He is fully capable of erasing it, but it remaining there is a choice he made.
What he hasn't calculated is that people will be kind and caring and concerned. What he hasnt calculated is that being human means being subjected to the mortifying ordeal of being known, to reap the rewards of being loved. 😌
Hope that answers your question! :DD

Hi! I just finished yoir wonderful meta about Odin's narcissistic parenting, Frigga's role in it and how it affected both Thor and Loki. It was amazing, I loved it. I was wondering if you had any fic recommendations where such topics are explored? Or a Ragnarok fix it that, y'know, doesn't completely erase previous character development?(I've already read black_feather_fiction's I Am Yours, And All – Or The Arduous Emancipation Of One Loki Odinson)
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it!😊❤️
Unfortunately though I haven't read any new fics during my hiatus and I don't remember anything else that explored these topics. You can find my "fic recs" following the tag or see the bookmarks in my AO3 account. And if anyone knows any fic I'll add it to this post.

Hi! Will Julia be making another appearance "and in the waking world we want and wait"? I loved her and would like to see her and hob interact again, especially since she knows what he actually is(your fic is awesome btw)
I would certainly hope that we see Julia again, yes, and also that she gets to meet Rose.

You know I saw a post recently that said something along the lines of "You can't hold anything Moash did after he became Vyre against him, because he's under the influence of Odium and he's too mentally ill to see that he's wrong."
And I just??? What???
You did read Oathbringer, right? Being under the influence of Odium does not mean that Moash isn't in control of his actions... that's like the whole point of Dalinar's arc. Odium doesn't make the choice for "Vyre;" he is still in control of his actions.
Say what you will about whether or not Moash is in the right when it comes to the Alethi nobility or what have you; I'm not here to debate that. But the argument that Moash/Vyre is not responsible for his actions is demonstrably false.

Spoilers for Secret Project 3
I think it’s really interesting that as we see the Cosmere progress, there is a consistent theme popping up of the inherent threats imposed by machines, and the recurrence of the man v technology / nature v technology archetypes.
In 6th of the dusk the ones above who come bearing technology only offer it for nefarious reasons, and are trying to steal/study/coopt the avian magic that exists naturally.
In the Stormlight Archive the subplot of artifabrian-made shards poses a question of whether or not it is safe & morally right to bring into existence artificial shardplate and shardblades.
In Yumi and the Nightmare Painter the machine created by the scholars was what brought about the collapse of Torish society.
I’m sure there’s some examples that I’m missing, and probably some contradicting events, but it’s intriguing to me that as much as Cosmere societies want to advance, every time they go too far with technology it comes back to bite them in the ass. Certainly it carries a lot of parallels to our world nowadays, in which we must find and hold the line between automated convenience and the nullification of human involvement in…everything really. And it begs the question of how much can we do in pursuit of knowledge and improvement before we risk destroying the everyday magic that we already have accessible to us.

It's weird coming from the Cosmere fandom where brandysandy is our lovable eccentric friend with too many ideas, and sure sometimes we disagree with him but it's all in good fun, and then entering WoT spaces where he's talked about like the obnoxious overbearing stepfather who insisted on remodeling our house and won't leave us alone even after we left for college.

Okay I am obsessed with your librarian!dream headcannons. I hadn't thought of retired!dream as a librarian but now that you have mentioned it it's "duh, of course he would be" kind of moment
P.S all of your sandman fics have shattered my heart into tiny pieces and I fucking love it, don't stop
AAAA thank you so much!
Retired!Dream being a librarian was DEFINITELY a 'duh' moment for me, too! I had thought a lot of what he'd be (a writer? a painter? an artist?) and the answer that came back was so 'stare-me-in-the-face' obvious that it warranted a complete italicized oh. But ALSO, once we're past all that, I've realized that there really is no better setting to have Dream be vulnerable and learn how to be human in a place where humanity is at its best, you know what I mean? I think that's what the library is for me. And THANK YOU for all the love on my sandman fics! That makes me so incredibly happy!

Love seeing someone in the fandom paying attention to the worldbuilding and putting the dots together 👀 I spent so many hours thinking about this stuff and I have some answers and some theories and I would love to see what you come up with too
(I will just point one easy to miss detail I think you would like to know, when we saw Verity dip his hands in the Skill, it was during a dream, and the description didn't necessarily match kelsingra, could have been another elderling city)
Hiiii anon I looooove worldbuilding I love magic systems I just can't ignore them theyre so fascinating!!
I did actually notice the Verity thing. Not because of the description but because it was a river not a well so I thought it was a differwnt Elderling city yeah :P

I was so inspired by how much awesome cosplay I saw at DragonCon this year that I am not letting myself half-ass anything next time! We are being proactive. We are planning ahead. I've already got a membership and a hotel room and I have two new costumes planned that I think are feasible to achieve by next year.
