I like this moment. On the surface, it's a bit inconsequential, but it reflects a major part of why Kon is the way she is.

As anyone who's read or watched Kemono Jihen knows, Kon wants one thing desperately. She wants to be a "good girl," she's terrified of failing to reach that standard. That vague, vague standard.

And when she's feeling confident, she still phrases in terms of being a "good girl". I'm going to win because I'm a good girl, I have a good training regimen because I'm a good girl, I don't leave missions incomplete because I'm a good girl. That kind of thing.

The specific details of what it means to be "a good girl" matter less than Kon knowing that she's a good girl. So she tries to learn the rules of being a good girl and follow them.

That set of panels I showed you at the top? The digging bit? Kon has learned what the rules are. She knows how you're supposed to dig, she studied that well...but she can't explain why the rules are the way they are.

Kon knows the rules; she's had them explained to her, she's done her best to memorize and follow them. But she doesn't understand the rules, the way some people do.

And I'm not just talking about how to dig, either. I've mentioned before that Kon seems kinda autistic. She doesn't understand how to interact with people, she's just learned some scripts she can follow, and falls apart if those scripts don't work.

And more significantly, Kon doesn't seem to understand what being "a good girl" actually means. She's just learned a bunch of things that good girls do, and tries to do all of them as much as possible.

Like most kids, Kon learned her values from the adult taking care of her. This would normally not be a problem; most adults would try to teach kids to do the right thing and correct them when they messed up. Unfortunately, Kon's guardian is Inari, who in this world is a manipulative fox-cop.

Kon has learned a bunch of things that could make her a "good girl," and only one is consistent. To be a good girl, Kon has to serve Lady Inari.

needless to say, that little funky vampire gamer is an Enstarrie. to me. naturally.

My favorite headcanon is that akira (kemoji character, not the enstars writer) is an enstarrie (i know a hajime & toriP when i see one. Maybe even brancoP actually). But mihai... i think mihai would have fun with those crazy special beatmaps that go sideways and whatnot. He's not a fan of singleplayer games but i think he could be mildly entertained for like 10 minutes if akira asks him to help clear the difficult levels

I hope this is of your liking, please let me know what you think!

Tsuki's note: as it was not mentioned if you wanted headcanons or scenarios, I will go with hc! I hope that is ok!

Ok, so it is a little hard to see this tanuki getting jealous.

You see, he is a very understanding and chill guy. But that doesn't mean he has infinite chillness.

Just gotta push the right buttons! But he still isn't someone to get jealous. Anyway!

Which ones are those, you ask? Well, he gets slightly annoyed when:

1- You shows sign of discomfort;

2- If the person is too insistent.

For case number 1:

He will watch for a bit to see if you can shake them off on your own.

If you can, he will come in a flash to wrap an arm around you and comfort you.

If you cannot shake them off then, he will come for your aid.

He will try to talk it out first, making you leave the scene, like asking you to grab something for him.

If that doesn't work, Inugami will gently and discreetly pull you behind him while trying to talk the person away.

Another option is turning into a Tanuki and sitting on your lap.

This for sure distracts you 10/10. As your attention is fully on him, the person usually goes away Because A: you are distracted by a cute animal and B: this random tanuki was staring at the person. No other moves but a stare and that's all. A bit unsettling eh?

After driving them away:

He will check on you, if you are OK.

Offer a drink to you, maybe coffee, maybe tea. He wants you to feel comfortable and safe again.

He will watch you for a while. You know, just in case the person comes back, of course, you can handle yourself it's just…. To be safe, yeah. That 's all.

It will be difficult to spot him or know he was keeping an eye on you.

For case 2:

Things get more serious here.

He would step in a flash.

Will probably pull you away by the arm and hide you behind him.

Rushes you to take a leave too. Tell you to check on the children.

It's hard to tell but he is annoyed and on alert mode.

You hardly ever see what happens to the person, he doesn't tell you either. All he says is " don't worry about it"

In actuality what he does is talk the person away.

After Driving them away:

Goes to ask you a bunch of questions. But won't press you if you don't want to talk about it.

Stay around you. Not necessarily close, but around and always have you in sight.

Offers a drink, actually he grabs it anyway. He knows what you like and you are having it!

He will watch the person for a while. Will check on you very often, usually through texts.

In both cases he will…

Watches and pays attention to your body language.

If he notices you feel a bit icky he will give you some space

Now you must think what this has to do with being jealous? Well, everything.

At these moments he starts to just think about how lucky he is to have you and how he should spend more time with you.

Now don't get me wrong, he does dedicate time to you. It-s just that as a detective, he stays out for a long time and with the kids to watch out for? Yeah.

So a little hint of jealousy comes around.

He is not very open about it, so he will translate it into bringing things you like.

A sweet, a little gift, your favourite drink, little things like that.

When everyone goes to bed, he just puts an arm around your shoulder.

Will offer to cuddle. How? Inugami will stretch an arm out and wait for you to ensure on him.

It's simple, sweet stuff and seems ordinary. But you know better.

Don't try to ask him about it. He will deny it. He is just being a good partner. It's all. Yeah.

In days he is feeling a bit more clingy after these events and more serious ones, you bet he will turn into a tanuki and just lay around you.

It's comfortable to be a kemono around you. It's safe. It's relaxing, it's home.

how does your muse get local news and updates on current events? are they up to date with all the latest goings-on or do they prefer to avoid it altogether?

I think Hinata probably spends a lot of time casually browsing her phone or watching TV, but I wouldn't say she's super "in the know". A lot of it is stuff that requires more than 30 seconds of attention, too, so she's prone to brushing it off as unimportant or boring.

did your muse grow up with any particular television shows? do they have a favorite, or a memory tied to these shows?

Kemono Jihen takes place in 2016, so... we can reverse engineer her childhood shows as coming from the early 2000s...

I think she would've REALLY liked Inuyasha. She loves historical dramas, romance, action, and it involves yokai-- the perfect blend of attention grabbers for a little girl who liked being cool.

how much effort does your muse put into their costume for halloween parties and other dress-up events? do they have any go-to costumes?

She doesn't really go to parties, on account of the leech. That being said, given the opportunity, Hinata's more the type to be vaguely-thematic and hot than a full on costume.

does your muse stay up to date with the latest fashion trends? describe their style. where do they typically buy their clothes?

She does! Hinata enjoys fashion and keeping up with trends a lot, and as described by Aimoto, she leans more on the "punk/rocker" end of the spectrum. Heavy leather influence. I don't think she'd buy from shops that are on the "mall goth/baby bat" end of the spectrum like Hot Topic, though. There's also definitely some sporty influence; im sure her casual clothing contains plenty of athleisure.

who was their first celebrity crush?

what would your muse's bio say if they were on a dating app?

name, age, and probably something like "can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen"

what kind of phone does your muse have, and how customized is it? does it have a basic case or something more unique? is the screen cracked? do they have a popsocket or other accessories on it?

probably a two or three year old smartphone. Definitely cracked screen, but she probably replaces the case when it gets scuffed. The phone case has a pattern like a yakuza tattoo, and a broken loop for a charm.

smartphones and other tech along those lines can be pretty sensitive to heat, so I have a feeling she has to replace it more than most.

who was the one family member your muse always looked up to, if any?

Hinata is the second youngest of 5. Her eldest sister was the coolest person in the world to her, and she emulated a lot of her rough-and-tumble attitude. Although, like with the rest of her family, they no longer speak.

if your muse drives a car, have they personalized it in any way (bumper stickers, things hanging from the rearview mirror, etc.)?

...Can I say she has a motorcycle? The saddlebags are just as leather and studded as the rest of her. Somewhere, there's a bumper sticker that's been worn off over the years, that used to read something not braking for pedestrians.

if given a choice between having a night in or spending the night out on the town, which would they most likely choose and why?

A night in. A night out means making sure Robara behaves, which is just stressful.

In her post canon, she's a bit of a homebody, just due to circumstance.

Leather, charcoal, and whatever the fuck the inside of an ULTA smells like. You know the smell, though. Makeup fragrances.

I don't think she likes many organic smells, though.

what kind of shopper is your muse? are they a slow, methodical shopper, a list-maker, or a grab the items and go kind of person? how long do they usually spend getting their groceries? how long do they spend clothes shopping? do they use changing rooms?

Grab shit and GOOOOOOOOOO she has an awful habit of just throwing shit in the cart, or if she doesn't want it, sticking it on the nearest shelf. Cuts in line. Haggles with coupons. Leaves the changing room a disaster.

Hinata doesn't.... really care about society outside of the personal goals she has. Social causes are pretty meaningless drivel to her. That being said, she's passionate about the treatment of children, so... that? Don't ask her about theory, she doesn't know. What she knows is she'll kick your ass.

if your muse was made into an action figure, what would their five catchphrases be?

"I'll be a demon or the devil!"

"Suck in those balls!"

Hinata is terrified of losing those closest to her, a fear cultivated by Robara's constant threats towards anyone who got close-- and the perceived inability he had to take care of himself, putting his and others' lives in her hands.

She's also terrified of getting pregnant and giving birth to a "monster". She believes that no matter what, she's somehow become "tainted" and any child she has will turn out like him.

what's the one thing your muse constantly does and wishes they could stop doing?

Hinata's got an awful habit of breaking shit when she's mad, and that's really not conducive to owning things, typically. Phones and TV's can be expensive! And she's mad quite often.

does your muse know how to fight? describe their fighting style. if someone was threatening them and about to attack, how would they respond?

Fighting's what she's made for, right?

Hinata is a powerful combatant, both barehanded and with a weapon. She doesn't play defensively, and her onslaught is only made more dangerous by the flames she wields. If you fuck around, you will find out when you get football tackled to the ground and have your face rearranged in a non-euclidean manner.

Her haste and irritability isn't the same kind of weakness it is for Kaede-- Hinata clearly can be a discerning combatant and is willing to levy strategy to her advantage. It's just that there's a reason so many big predators relentlessly pursue and wear down their prey.

will your muse eat at fast food restaurants? if they're on a time crunch, what type of food will they grab?

She's not opposed to fast food at all! In fact, working for Inari and being on their own so early has made Hinata and Robara quite used to grabbing a quick bite. Hinata prefers things that are high in protein and can easily be eaten with one hand, so things like burgers are pretty set for her food choices.

did your muse's parents pass down any quirks or habits that your muse now does? what are they?

Believe it or not, but Hinata is a strong proponent of telling people to eat their veggies. And she doesn't eat until everyone else does, because her parents only ate after the kids did.

While not from her parents, Hinata's swaggy walk is the result of falling in with some yakuza after leaving home.

does you muse like road trips, or would they prefer to fly in a plane?

Plane, 100%. Longer trips that you can't just sleep off? No way! Plus, driving sucks.

what are their thoughts on roadside attractions and tourist traps? when visiting new cities, do they prefer to see the most popular sites, or pretend to be a local and blend in?

Hinata is the type to do the most popular sites, if only because she wants to appear like a normal couple and do normal couple things, which means buying in to the illusion of popularity as far as activities go. Again, though, her attention span is short and her patience is shorter, and even when Robara isn't a worry, her manners are just godawful and prone to getting her kicked out.

what does your muse's bedroom look like? is it cluttered or clean? do they use the overhead lighting, or use lamps and other things to provide a better ambience? do they make their bed every morning or leave it unmade?

Hinata's bedroom is surprisingly well-decorated, with lots of trendy and thematic elements-- but it's usually in a state of disarray, since she's not the type to get too hung up on organizing things. Not always messy, though. The cleaning tends to be a cycle of missing a few days, doing it all in one big burst, etc, etc. She's not the type to let anything become particularly unsanitary conditions-wise.

The bed gets made, but she complains the whole time about how pointless it is.

It's pretty evenly 50/50. Being on her own instilled a bit of resourcefulness, but once things start getting cluttered, Hinata's the type to chuck things out with reckless abandon, regardless of if they've actually been kinda useful.

Always with that sly tongue, licking at the seam of your mouth and its corner, flicking away the bit of drool and the last vestiges of your common sense, along with all the lessons your mama ever instilled in you.

(so when he oh so pleasantly whispers, open up— you do. damn you, you do it. it’s the sweetest temptation.)

And how he runs his hand up the column of your throat, coaxing you to stretch, to expose more of your neck as you blearily blink up at him, drunken with headiness, his other hand kneading the middle of your back in comforting motions. And, oh, how he hotly sucks and puts down his mark in obscene bruises and teethprints against soft, unmarred flesh, practically purring at how your hands helplessly tug at his hair, brushing over his ears, his nape, and his shoulders. And how, then, he pauses long enough to let you remember life in the horrible absence of his touch, before tugging down the collar of your shirt to bite lower, lick lower, your chest heaving faster and deeper, your unoccupied mouth falling open, and

and that's when he pulls away— sudden enough for it to feel as if a bucket of cold water had been dumped over your head— with a reluctant smile and gives you some sort of cheery, bullshit apology about needing to be some other place, leaving you to hang back and cope with the gouging hollowness of jilted satisfaction all by yourself.

He kisses like that and it's absolutely infuriating.

He's a bastard with a rotten personality, this man you're letting put his lips on you. Nobimaru comes and goes as he pleases, mercilessly teasing you, getting you all riled up and pouty and huffing and puffing, ready to kill him, before having the nerve to coax you into wanting to kiss him. Aren't I cute? He'll ask with wide, innocent eyes that you shouldn't buy into. Aren't you tempted to kiss me? Just this once. Just one little kiss.

And it's that one little kiss that leaves you miserably aching for more.

Or when he silently slinks up to your defenseless neck, takes advantage of that lovely little spot just under your ear, softly brushes his mouth there just to hear a surprised squeak. Or, when he takes your fingers and presses kisses that might appear polite and gentlemanly– if it weren't accompanied by the barest hints of cheeky teeth. Or, when he presses your foreheads together, his hair tickling your head, his lips so, so close, peering into your face with smiling eyes that make your chest feel so full, like bursting, until you’re forced to close those last few centimeters for the relief of his lips.

You might think he's toying with you, that this is some sort of play that he takes perverse pleasure in— but for Nobimaru? Really, it all just makes him loathe the old bitch all the more. Because how many times has he had to flame out the rats put to the task of tailing him, shut down the loose mouths ready to run off about you to their mistress? Too many moments he had spent in missions sent by Inari that he would've much rather spent pissing you off and licking it all better. He can’t stay for too long or he’ll attract unwanted attentions on you, but the in-between moments he has with you are times he looks forward to more than you know.

Kemono Jihen characters and tiktok trends

(I had had something else planned to post but I'm not done with it yet and this idea came to mind.)

•They're all a little bit older than preteens so they're in the age range for it.

•Akira has tiktok on his phone and mimics the dance moves till he gets it perfect. Or until Shiki yells at him to turn the repetitive music off.

•Inugami used to do the dances with Akira every now and then but now Akira tries to get Kabane to do them too.

•Sometimes Shiki is forced to hold the camera and sometimes Inugami does it.

•It doesn't take much convincing to get Kabane to join in though he is shit at it and falls on his face a couple times. (He's determined to get it right tho).

•He doesn't really understand how it's fun but he does it for Akira.

•Shiki finds it hilarious it's the first time he's ever stayed when Akira started dancing.

•Once Kabane gets it down him and Akira become completely in sync.

Kabane, the protagonist of Kemono Jihen, comes off as kinda autistic to me. (At the very least, he feels like he based on the allistic author's autistic buddy.) He's blunt, quiet, literal, doesn't understand social interactions, etc etc.

One episode, while out on an errand, he runs into Kon, a kitsune girl working for the sinister police chief. After a quick action scene and some conversation, he says he needs to finish the errand but he'll be back soon, and Kon says she'll wait. When he finishes the errand, he immediately gets drafted for a plot thing that takes up the rest of the day. The next morning, he remembered he promised to go back to Kon and runs off.

She's still there. Something about the fact that she stuck around in the middle of a park overnight, then just casually said "I've been waiting for you!", and Kabane saying "Yeah, I figured as much," made me realize...ah. She's autistic, too.

my crappy little fanfic draft is becoming a headcanon galore, so allow me to share a few:

akira and yui may look like normal humans, but their body heat is significantly lower

sometimes when shiki is being annoying, akira will touch his neck with freezing cold fingers and he'll let out an embarrassing high-pitched squeak

shiki and akira spontaneously started having prank wars sometime after they started working together. inugami caught them one week in and made them apologise, but instead of stopping, they just keep finding increasingly convoluted and subtle ways to get at each other

i like to think that inugami internally calls the office trio "his kids" (it could slip out if he were to get stressed/worried enough)

shiki has insomnia. unless he's tired to the point where he's out as soon as his head hits the pillow, he'll overthink and fret over stupid things well into the night. he's usually a light sleeper

akira, on the other hand, could sleep through an earthquake

unless he's pulling an all nighter, inugami is usually the first to wake up after kabane, who is an early bird

since kabane is often bored in the morning before everyone else gets up, he learnt how to make coffee for inugami (there's probably at least one fancy coffee machine in that café area)

at first he would just quietly sit and watch his boss drink, but inugami felt bad about it so now they drink together while chatting. sometimes neither has anything interesting to say, so they either sit in silence, or inugami reads his newspaper out loud (we know he's an old fashioned man like that). mornings are their special bonding time

kemono office learns it the hard way that kon and caffeine don't mix well

shiki's hands get clammy easily and he's secretly embarrassed about it

aya and akira eventually become shopping buddies. sometimes they drag their brothers along to carry their bags

shiki is low-key afraid of yui. there's just something about the older boy activates his fight or flight response. he's convinced that, given the chance, yui would snap him like a twig. yui is completely oblivious to this. he just thinks that akira's purple friend is a funky little fellow, if a little jumpy at times

kon accidentally ends up sleeping over at the office once. kabane offers her his hammock while he settles on his usual spot on the floor. when he wakes up, it's only to discover that kon has migrated down overnight and that she is now sleeping soundly, snuggled up to him. he doesn't know if he should move at first, afraid that he'll wake her up, but then he notices that it's easy to hear her heartbeat when they are in such close proximity. he slowly falls asleep to the sound of if

just a few hours later, akira's phone is full of pictures of the two of them looking adorable together

kabane likes to play with kon's hands when they are sitting together. kon notices that he often lets his fingers linger on her pulse, but she doesn't comment on it

shiki and akira read each other's manga. both claim that the other has trash taste and that they are only doing it because they run through their respective stashes way too quickly. this doesn't explain why shiki can quote strawberry first love from memory, nor why akira has such strong opinions about shounen jump's lineup

inugami knows how to braid hair because he's just built different like that. akira will occasionally ask him for help with more complicated updos

kemono office has a family group chat. mihai interacts with it exclusively by liking messages

every once in a while, mihai will remind shiki of his failed gaming channel from middle school

despite claiming to be an "expert in matters of the heart", akira, the local hopeless romantic, is just as oblivious to people flirting with him as his brother is
