I JUST NOTICED that porky kisses the horse and the horse smiles. that’s so cute???
YOU’RE RIGHT!!!!!! I NEVER NOTICED THAT THE HORSE SMILES!!! WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i’ve overanalyzed the hell out of that scene because it is SO CUTE AND SO WELL ANIMATED and i’ve pontificated about “uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh uh uh uh Porky kicking the tape away with his heel conveys a quaint sense of mischief since it’s a gesture that is innately ‘reckless’ and this typically isn’t a default for his character so it enunciates his chipper attitude the inclusion of this song number so seeks to achieve” but not the much more obvious beat where the horse smiles at him after he pats it. (i’m not sure if he does kiss it but i’ve also never understood what that sound effect was for, and it does sound relatively synonymous to one? maybe? THE POINT STILL STANDS)
it’s SOOOOO WELL ANIMATED. i’ve always liked how naturalistic this little beat feels when he looks up at the horse which is the least significant takeaway, but it’s remarkably natural in its movement and honestly feels like a believably subconscious impulse rather than a motivated artistic decision from the animators or motivated gesture on Porky’s behalf.
i unfortunately don't tend to revisit his Porky shorts from this era, but i do think that the Chuck Jones' 1941 Porky cartoons--mainly this one and Porky's Midnight Matinee-- are some of the cutest that Porky has EVER looked, and this scene is a particularly strong argument in support of that

okay i saw barbie and it was great. a true 10/10. and ryan gosling was a wonderful ken, really entertaining and sold the role. however i do wish that the writers had written him just a little bit more like barbie life in the dreamhouse ken. still obsessed with barbie, but instead of wanting to date her in a heterosexual way, dating her in a gay companion way. barbie life in the dreamhouse ken was always off on some side quest to benefit barbie that barbie didn’t care about at all, and he was never discouraged. barbie life in the dreamhouse ken would have been revolted by the patriarchy. barbie life in the dreamhouse ken was just happy to be there. his job was not “just beach” his job was “just barbie”

How would a sarumi dress up to watch a Barbie movie? (And no, Saru, you can't dress like you normally do and ignore the dress code (pink!)). + Bonus. How would Anna dress? (How old is she there in 2023?)
Why must they dress as Barbie, clearly Yata would dress in only the coolest look:
(There is a non-zero chance Yata also thinks the patriarchy is about horses.)
Bonus Anna,I had trouble finding an iconic Barbie look in red that wasn't an evening gown but I found a Skipper doll in this cute outfit that I think would suit Anna nicely:

I wonder if Barbie and Ken were confused when they went to the real world and discovered that their clothes weren't magically appearing on their bodies at the shop, and that they had to actually put them on themselves.
But maybe they were already aware of humans not having magic like that. Maybe they know everything in BarbieLand is based on your imagination. They seemed aware of other things for some reason? They know what genitals are even if nobody in BarbieLand has any at all, which also confuses me? They know they're dolls being played with, which makes sense bc that's their purpose. Do they have some sort of awareness of the real world automatically when they're created, because they know they're being played with? Do they HAVE to have some idea of how certain things work in the real world? Margot said there was going to be a scene where Barbie and Ken actually do try to kiss each other after the dance party but neither of them knew how kissing would work so they'd just bonk their faces together, but they couldn't pull it off without making it look awkward so they scrapped the scene. And in the movie it seems like they do know how kissing would work bc Ken goes for a kiss three times.
Barbie didn't react when she drank tea for the first time, she didn't react to the taste of it. At first I thought maybe she'd just be so focused on making sure she didn't spill it that she didn't care what was hitting her taste buds, but then I remembered that she reacted with disgust when she "drank" the imaginary expired milk. So the fake food does have taste in their world. That's interesting.
