The roundtable room always feels colder than it should. Maybe it’s the fluorescent lights, or maybe it’s the weight of what gets said in here — every case, every file, every name. Sometimes you think the walls remember too much.
Hotch is talking. His voice cuts through the stillness in that crisp, efficient way it always does. Words like “victimology” and “behavioral escalation” stack on top of each other, building the scaffolding of a case you’re supposed to be paying attention to. But your mind is already drifting — across the table, past the file folders and scattered pens, to where Spencer is sitting.
He’s chewing the inside of his cheek again. Not nervous, exactly — more like restless. His gaze flickers from the files to the floor to the case board, anywhere but you. He hasn’t looked at you once all morning.
You wonder if anyone else notices.
Last week, you kissed him. Again. Or rather, he kissed you.
It was late. You were both a little tipsy from post-case beers, tiptoeing down the hotel hallway like teenagers who missed curfew. You’d said something about how quiet it was — how strange it felt after so much chaos that day. He’d nodded. Then there was a long, loaded pause, and suddenly your back was against the wallpaper and his mouth was on yours, hot and searching and almost rough.
“We shouldn’t,” you’d whispered, even as your fingers curled into his shirt.
“I know,” he’d breathed back against your lips.
And still, neither of you stopped.
You think about that now — his hands framing your jaw, the way he touched you like he’d been dying to all day — and it makes your palms itch. You press your nails into your skin, leaving little crescent-shaped indents, and force your gaze back to the board.
On it: photos of the bodies of three women. All strangled. All posed ritualistically. All in their late twenties to mid-thirties, all married or in serious relationships. All affiliated with the swinger lifestyle in the greater Chicago area.
“Preliminary theory,” Hotch says, “is that the unsub attends these parties, separates the woman from her male partner, and kills her in private. He’s not targeting them at random — he’s studying their interactions with their partners first. Police pulled together a sketch of the unsub from witnesses, but the locals haven’t been able to identify him yet.”
Spencer finally speaks. “It’s possible he’s embedding himself in the community. Not just observing, but actively participating in swinging.”
You swallow hard. His voice sounds normal. Clinical. Almost bored. You wonder how he does that — compartmentalizes so easily when you’re in the room like nothing ever happened between you.
You, meanwhile, are still trying to forget the taste of his mouth.
“Wheels up in an hour,” Hotch says, flipping the file closed. “We’ll get briefed by local PD and the Chicago field office when we land.”
He pauses and glances around the table.
“We’re also going to need to send two of you in undercover at the next club night.”
As soon as he says it, you already know what’s coming. Hotch focuses his eyes on you before he continues speaking.
“You’ve got the most experience working undercover,” he says. “And you fit the victimology. Reid, you’ll go with her. You make a believable pairing.”
You feel it. Not just the sharp jolt in your own chest, but the way Spencer tenses. A small shift in posture, like someone bracing for impact. His eyes stay fixed on the table. You just nod.
“If the unsub is targeting women in stable relationships,” Spencer begins, voice measured, “we need to appear convincingly connected — not just physically, but emotionally. Studies show that up to 10 % of American married couples have experimented with swinging, and many report that emotional intimacy drives their participation more than the physical variety. If he’s looking for that connection when seeking out victims, we’ll need to sell both.”
You almost laugh. Not because it’s funny — but because this is how he protects himself. With facts. With rationality. Like if he says the right words in the right order, it won’t matter that your mouths have already memorized each other.
“Exactly. And you two will blend in best with the age group at these clubs. We’ll do more prep on the plane,” Hotch says.
You nod. Spencer nods.
And then, finally, he looks at you.
It’s barely for a second, but it’s long enough to see the thing he’s trying to hide:

You look away first. You have to.
The jet hums around you. You’ve always found something oddly comforting about the sound — the steady thrum of the engine, the muted clink of coffee mugs, the gentle rustle of case files and paper.
Spencer is sitting across from you, the way he always does on the jet. Close enough to keep an eye on you if he wants to, but far enough away for plausible deniability. He’s got a file open in his lap, one leg crossed over the other, pen tapping absently at the margin. But he hasn’t turned the page in eight minutes.
You’re pretending to read, too. Words blur. You underline things at random just to look busy. The profile you and the team have already built is solid — mid- to late-thirties, white male, organized, narcissistic injury around female sexuality, history of escalating violence against women starting from a young age, currently or formerly involved in the swinger community himself.
But all you can think about is the fact that Spencer isn't looking at you again, and it’s starting to eat at you.
“God,” Morgan mutters from behind you. “This case is wild. Sex parties, swinging, murder.”
“People have all kinds of lifestyles,” JJ says, gentle and unbothered, flipping through photos. “That doesn’t make them deserving of this.”
“Not saying that,” Morgan replies. “Just… can you imagine Hotch at one of those clubs?”
A collective groan-laugh moves through the jet. Rossi makes a deadpan comment about leather harnesses. Even Hotch cracks a grin.
But Spencer doesn’t. He’s still staring at his file, unmoving, jaw tight.
The last time you were alone with him, he was on his knees.
You remember the way he looked up at you, hair falling into his eyes. His mouth was reverent. Careful. Like you were a puzzle he desperately needed to solve with his tongue.
“Please,” you’d whispered. “Don’t be so gentle.”
But he was. He always is. Even when he’s needy, even when you’re shaking — he’s still soft. Still murmuring little praises like, “You’re doing so well for me,” and “Good girl.”
And when it was over, you got dressed, said a quiet goodnight, and tiptoed back down the hall to your room alone, same as you always did. Even after countless nights together, you never slept beside him. One of you always left. It was the one boundary you hadn’t crossed. There was a seemingly impenetrable wall between the two of you, and you weren’t even sure which one of you had built it. Maybe it was him, maybe it was you, or maybe it was a joint effort.
Back in the present, the jet hits a small patch of turbulence. You jolt, fingers tightening around your pen. Spencer looks up instinctively, and your eyes meet.
He blinks once, then looks back down.
You wonder if he’s thinking about the same things you are. If the silence between you is just his version of restraint, or if he’s decided it’s easier to forget.
“Here’s some background on the club,” Hotch says, sliding a printout across the table. “Invitation-only, but you two,” he nods at you and Spencer, “are already on the guest list.”
Spencer shifts slightly. “Did they send a floorplan?”
JJ passes him a sheet with the building layout. You watch the way his fingers curl around the edge of the paper.
You want to say something. You want to joke, to ease the tension, to break the silence before it breaks you. All you can manage is:
“So. You ready to pretend to be my boyfriend, Reid?”
It comes out lighter than you feel.
Spencer’s mouth twitches. Not quite a smile, though.
“I’ve pretended to be worse,” he says softly. And for a moment, it almost feels like the past six months didn’t happen.
Then Rossi clears his throat, and Spencer looks away again.
You stare at the grain in the tabletop and trace it like a fault line, wondering how you’re supposed to fake wanting all of him when that’s already too close to reality.
The hotel room you’ve just checked into is a bit dated, with a king bed, fake art, heavy curtains, and neutral tones. Standard, by every definition of the word. But your eyes keep flicking to the left — where a second door sits flush with the wall you share with the adjacent room. It feels like the universe is laughing at you when you realize who’s staying in the suite next door — Spencer, naturally. And maybe it’s not a big deal. Maybe two FBI agents sharing a door between rooms isn’t a scandal. Maybe it’s even practical, since you’ll be working so closely on this case.
Still.
It feels too absurdly romantic for a murder investigation. Like the setup to a bad workplace rom-com that ends in a wedding montage and a corny piano medley. The thought makes you snort. You’ve got a deadpan sense of humor, especially when you’re tired or scared or two seconds away from thinking about the taste of his mouth again.
You groan and drop your go-bag at the foot of the bed. Your boots are already off. You’re about to get up and shower when you hear a rattle of movement on the other side of the wall.
Then: a knock.
Not at the main door, but the other one. The one that’s supposed to stay shut.
Of course.
You pad over and unlatch it.
Spencer’s standing there in mismatched socks, tie loosened, hair slightly mussed like he’s been running his hands through it for the last twenty minutes.
“Hey,” he says.
“Hey.”
You both hover for a second. There’s something soft in his eyes — like guilt, or maybe just caution.
“I, uh, thought we should talk through tomorrow. Get our story straight before we go in.”
You arch a brow. “Our story?”
He swallows. “Cover story. Our… relationship history. As a couple. So we’re believable.”
You blink. Then you laugh — short, surprised. “Right. Gotta make sure our fake relationship is fully fleshed out.”
His expression doesn’t change, but you see the muscle in his jaw jump. Like he’s trying very hard not to say something he’ll regret.
You step back. “Come on in, then. Let’s build a backstory.”
He enters cautiously, and the adjoining door swings closed behind him with a click.
You’re the kind of person who flirts when you’re uncomfortable. Who masks tension with sarcasm. Who doesn’t let people in until it’s already too late. And deep down, you hate that you’ve been soft with him. He’s seen the version of you who doesn’t deflect — the quiet version. The real one. You spent years learning how not to feel things too deeply, but now one look from Spencer and it’s like a dam breaking.
“So,” you say, cocking your head, “how long have we been together?”
He glances up to the ceiling. “A year?”
“Bold of you to assume I’d put up with you that long.”
His mouth twitches. “Six months?”
“Try four and a half. Tops.”
“Fine,” he murmurs. “Four and a half months.”
You bite your lip, a smirk teasing the corner. “And how did we meet? Office romance?”
He gives you a look of exasperation and says your name with a groan. Clearly, that hit a nerve.
You chuckle. “Fine. Come up with something better.”
There’s a beat. Then: “You spilled coffee on me in a bookstore. I insisted it was fine, you apologized profusely and offered to buy me a new shirt. Turned into a whole scene,” he decides.
You laugh. “That’s ridiculous.”
“It’s believable.”
“Because I’m clumsy, or because you’re uptight?”
“Both,” he says, almost smiling.
The air shifts.
There it is again — that familiar tilt of the atmosphere. The way everything around him bends just slightly, like gravity favors his orbit.
He crosses the room and perches on the edge of the desk chair, spinning it half toward you.
You watch him from the bed, legs folded underneath you, pretending this is the most intimate moment you’ve ever shared. Which is, frankly, ridiculous. You’ve had your mouth on every inch of him. He’s said things in your ear that still make your toes curl when you think about them late at night.
“Tomorrow,” he says slowly, “we’ll need to act familiar. Emotionally and… physically.”
You nod. “We’re supposed to be in love, after all.”
That gets him. His eyes flick to yours, sharp and unreadable.
You tilt your head. “Or maybe just horny. That’s easier to fake, right?”
Silence.
Then, softly: “You’re not helping.”
“No,” you admit. “I’m not.”
You’ve always been like this — deflective to the point of recklessness when you’re backed into an emotional corner. It’s easier to make a joke than to say what you really mean. Easier to prod him than to admit you want something to give.
There’s a beat of quiet. You shift, pulling the blanket up over your legs, suddenly chilly despite the warmth of the room. The joke has worn off.
He clears his throat. “I should go, let you get some sleep.”
You nod, even though you know you’ll be restless for hours. The moment he’s gone, you’ll feel his absence echo like ringing in your ears after a fire alarm.
He stands. You stand, too. You walk together to the adjoining door like a real couple might, and that alone feels like cruelty.
For a second, neither of you moves. Then, you speak, voice quieter than it had been a few moments ago:
“Spence?”
He stops, glances back. His nickname in your mouth always does that — stalls him mid-step, like he’s never truly ready for it.
“If we’re going to be convincing,” you say, trying to sound casual, “you’re gonna have to at least look at me tomorrow.”
His gaze drops to the floor before finally lifting and meeting yours again, albeit briefly. “I’ll look at you,” he promises quietly, after a long beat.
And then he’s gone.
You lock the door, press your forehead to the wood frame, and exhale. You debate a shower again.
And that’s when it hits you — the memory, sudden and sharp, sparking bright in your mind like a match catching:
Three months ago. It was late. You’d just gotten back to the hotel one night in the middle of a case that left you feeling hollow, and you’d turned the shower on to heat up while you undid your ponytail with tired fingers.
The knock at your door came soft, almost guilty. You spotted Spencer through the peephole and let him in. You didn’t need to ask why he was there — you could see it in the way his shoulders slumped from the weight he was carrying, in the way his hand kneaded at the tension in the back of his neck, in the way he looked at you with those honey brown eyes like you were the only thing in this universe that could make him feel human again.
His mouth crashed into yours before you could even register it. Urgent. Consuming. The kind of kiss that didn’t care what came after, only what needed to happen right now.
You pulled him into the bathroom by his collar, lips parted and hungry. Clothes came off swiftly into a messy heap by the base of the sink. He lifted you into the shower then, water cascading around your tangled limbs, and braced you against the wall, tiles cool against your back.
You let him take everything he needed that night. Every thrust a release, every gasp a plea. He murmured little things against the warm skin of your neck — you don’t remember what they were, but you do remember the sound of his voice: low and wrecked and achingly tender. You came with your head tipped back, body trembling under the hot spray, thighs tightening around his waist, and he came harder. Like he couldn’t stop it — like your body had pulled it out of him, with a stifled groan and a shudder that rolled through his entire frame.
You stayed like that for a moment — both of you breathing hard, the sound of the water the only thing steady.
Eventually, your thighs loosened around him and he set you gently back down to the ground. You half-expected him to lean down and kiss you, to keep the moment going, but instead, he just studied your face and softly brushed your wet hair away from your cheek. Something quiet passed between you, fragile and echoing.
Then, without a word, he stepped out.
You watched through the fogged glass as he toweled off. Pulled his shirt back on over damp skin. Buttoned it unevenly, stepped into his slacks. His hands shook a little.
You were still standing under the water when he paused at the door.
“I’ll see you in the morning,” he said, barely audible over the rush of the shower. You nodded in reply.
Just as quickly as he’d showed up, he was gone again.
You blink back into the present, your skin prickling with goosebumps.
You hate that your body remembers him like that. You hate even more that your heart does, too.
The club doesn’t look like a potential murder spot.
It looks like money. Like velvet and champagne and curated decadence. Everything about it is just a little too sleek — brushed brass door handles, scented candles tucked into corners, red-tinted lights that paint everything in crimson and shadows.
Spencer’s arm is around your waist.
It’s not the first time he’s touched you like this, but it is the first time he’s pretending you belong to him.
And you’re pretending not to like it.
“You’re sure you’re okay in that?” he asks, voice low.
You glance down at the dress you’d picked out with Garcia’s help via video call — sleek, black, open back. It felt like a good idea when you tried it on at her suggestion — something sexy that would blend in with the rest of the club’s clientele. But now, with Spencer’s hand resting on the exposed curve of your spine, you think Garcia might’ve known exactly what she was doing when she encouraged it.
“I’m fine,” you murmur. “You’re the one who looks like he’s seen a ghost.”
He exhales through his nose. “I just… I can’t help it. It’s you. You look—”
“Spence,” you interrupt gently. You mouth the words: “We’re wired.”
The reminder shuts him up. Somewhere in an unmarked surveillance van, your colleagues are sipping stale coffee and listening to every breath you take. Every fake laugh. Every flirtation. Watching your every move via the security cameras Garcia hacked into.
You lean in close, brushing your lips just near the shell of his ear.
“Smile, sweetheart. You’re in love, remember?”
He does smile then, a crooked thing, tight around the edges. His hand dips a little lower, warm against your exposed skin. You wonder if it’s for show or if it’s just for him.
In front of you, the club scene unfolds. Couples swirl around the open space like slow-moving constellations, orbiting each other in wine-dark booths and shadowed alcoves. The music is low enough to be sexy but loud enough to muffle secrets. There’s a large bar near the back, a velvet rope section with private rooms upstairs, and at least two couples openly making out on chaise lounges.
You pass a bowl of condoms by the entrance and stifle a snort.
You try not to think about how this place is meant to seduce. That it’s built for sex and permission and skin. And tonight, you’re supposed to be playing the part.
Spencer’s fingers brush your hip. You glance up at him, and he leans in like a man in love.
“Back wall,” he says softly. “Let me handle the couple, figure out if they’ve seen anything. You work the man in the charcoal jacket.”
You split apart in practiced sync. He heads to the couple and you drift left, letting your eyes catch on the man Spencer mentioned. He’s older than you expected, but clean-shaven, wearing an expensive watch. His gaze skims over you, then lingers. You tilt your head, sip your drink.
He bites. Of course he does. Within minutes, he’s walking you to the bar for a refill.
You lean against the edge of the bar, feign laughter, touch his wrist when he says something passably clever.
It’s an act. You’ve done this before. You know how to fake a smile like you mean it.
But you also know Spencer is watching.
You don’t look for him, but you feel it. The way you always feel it — his attention, boring deep into your skin. You imagine his jaw twitching. His hand curling into a fist inside his pocket.

You didn’t go your separate ways when the elevator dinged on your floor. And you didn’t talk about it the next day. Or the time after that. Or the one after that.
You’re still not talking about it now.
You shift your body, laughing at something the man says, and trail your fingers lightly up his forearm — flirtation, just enough to maintain your cover. It’s nothing.
But the second you do it, Spencer’s voice crackles in your ear.
“You there?”
You don’t react. Just cross your legs slowly, let your gaze slide over the crowd like you’re looking for a third. The man you’ve been flirting with is distracted by the bartender, ordering another round.
“Mhmm,” you murmur.
There’s a pause. A rustle of breath. Then:
“Eyes right. Column near the leather bench. White shirt, sleeves rolled. That’s gotta be him.”
You let your gaze drift lazily to the right, like you’re just admiring the architecture.
And then you spot the man Spencer’s referring to.
You catalog the similarities between this man and the police sketch hanging on the case board back at the precinct. His face is symmetrical, forgettable in a way that makes your skin crawl. Like someone who’s practiced looking normal. His eyes skim the room like a hunter watching a watering hole. He’s still — too still.
You can feel it, the same way Spencer can. It’s more than a hunch or a guess— it’s an instinct, a read, a real-time application of the profile living inside your brain. That man is the unsub.
“Copy,” you say lightly, but your smile is gone now.
You dip your head towards the man beside you, murmur something about needing a bathroom break, and move towards the back of the room. Once you’re out of view from the bar, you catch up with Spencer.
His fingers close over yours.
“Everything okay?”
“Peachy,” you lie.
But the word tastes like sand in your mouth. You can feel how close danger is.
Spencer’s hand releases yours and moves to rest firmly on the small of your back. His thumb rubs slow circles against your skin, barely there. It could be part of your cover, or it could be genuine affection. Regardless, it’s a silent message: I’ve got you.
You’re standing near the fringe of the crowd now, a cluster of couples trading flirty glances and low-toned jokes about partner swapping. Someone’s making conversation about a weekend retreat. A woman in a sequined dress laughs too loud. You nod along, sipping your drink, body tilting naturally toward Spencer.
And then he walks up — the unsub.
White shirt, sleeves rolled. Watchful but charming. Forgettable face, memorable eyes.
You feel the breath catch in Spencer’s chest beside you.
“Evening,” the man says easily. “You new here?”
You smile like your skin isn’t crawling, like you don’t know he’s already killed at least three women with his bare hands and left their bodies displayed like offerings.
“We are,” you say, glancing up at Spencer. “Still figuring out the vibe.”
The unsub chuckles. “Well, you’re blending in just fine.”
He’s talking to you, but he’s looking at both of you, measuring. It’s not interest — it’s a test. A subtle prod to see what kind of relationship you and Spencer have. To see how easy it might be to wedge his way in.
Spencer answers before you can. “We’re curious,” he says. “Just observing for now.”
His voice is calm, but you feel the steel in it. His hand is still at your back. He pulls you in a little closer.
“Nothing wrong with watching,” the unsub says, his mouth twitching. “Sometimes that’s the best part.”
He takes a slow sip of his drink, and his gaze settles fully on you.
You don’t flinch.
“I’m Marcus,” he says. “You two have names?”
You give a soft laugh and glance at Spencer. “We’re trying to stay mysterious tonight.”
“Suit yourself.” Another sip. “Just thought I’d say hello. Let you know there are a few playrooms open upstairs if you’re feeling adventurous.”
Playrooms. Right. You’d seen them in the floorplan — semi-private spaces for couples or groups, monitored lightly by staff but otherwise left alone.
“Thanks,” you say, casual, “we’ll keep it in mind.”
“Maybe I’ll see you up there,” he says before walking away with a wink.
Your pulse spikes, and you try to suppress it. Try to breathe around it. Spencer shifts slightly, steps closer, like he’s reading your vitals through his fingertips.
“Did you see his hand?” he murmurs, only for you. “There was blood under his nails.”
You nod once. “And a crescent-shaped scratch on his hand.”
“He’s escalating. He wants to be noticed.”
You don’t say it, but you both know what that means:
The unsub is spiraling. He’s deviating from his own profile. He’s been organized and methodical this whole time, but now, he hasn’t even washed days-old evidence off his hands. He’s losing control. And that makes him even more dangerous.
“Hotch, did you catch that?” you murmur under your breath.
“Affirmative,” comes the reply in your ear. “Garcia picked him up with facial recognition. Name’s Marcus Blackwood. His wife left him and moved in with another man three months ago. Surveillance confirms he was at the same clubs as all three victims. Do not engage until backup is in place — we’re on the way. Just keep an eye on him if you can.”
“Copy,” you and Spencer say together.
You glance toward the far end of the club and realize Blackwood is heading up the stairs that lead up to the playrooms.
“Shit,” Spencer mutters.
Blackwood is baiting you.
He wants you to follow him.
You scan the crowd — an endless pool of potential victims. The rest of the team is en route. Five minutes, tops. But that’s too long.
“Hotch said we should keep an eye on him. I can stall,” you say softly.
Spencer looks at you, and for a split second, his composure falters. It’s not fear for himself. It’s fear for you.
You touch his hand.
“I’ll be fine.”
You step away before he can stop you and move toward the stairs slowly, wine glass still in hand. You feel the heat of Spencer’s gaze the whole time.
You don’t look back.
Blackwood greets you at the top of the stairs with that same bland smile. The hallway beyond is dim, quiet, lined with half-cracked doors. You glance at one and see the vague blur of movement — flashes of skin, moans, laughter.
“I figured you might be curious,” he says.
You plaster on a sultry smile. “Curious is one way to put it.”
He leans casually against a doorframe.
“You strike me as someone who likes attention,” he says. “Like you enjoy being wanted by people who don’t belong to you.”
You tilt your head. “What makes you say that?”
His eyes flick over your body. “Just a hunch. And you dress like it.”
You laugh.
He doesn’t laugh back.
Instead, he steps in.
You step back. He steps forward. The wall is against your spine now.
“You know what I hate?” he says, voice tightening. “When women pretend it’s all for fun. Like none of this means anything. Like they’re not breaking something sacred.”
There it is: the projection. The motive. The pathology.
You keep your voice even, your smile fixed. “Or maybe they just don’t owe you anything,” you say, hand drifting toward the distress button hidden in your bracelet. Click.
And then he grabs you.
It’s fast. One hand to your throat — not squeezing, just holding, controlling. His other hand catches your wrist, hard. Pain blooms instantly. You gasp, squirm—
And that’s when the hallway explodes.
“Marcus Blackwood, FBI!” Hotch’s voice, sharp and authoritative, cuts through the air.
Blackwood spins toward the sound just as Morgan slams into him like a freight train, pinning him to the ground. You hear the clatter of handcuffs and Emily’s voice confirming: “Unsub is secured.”
It’s over.
But you’re still frozen.
You hadn’t realized how fast your heart was pounding, or that Spencer had run in and pulled you to safety before Morgan could even reach the unsub. He doesn’t ask permission — just gathers you into him.
His arms are tight, all instinct and adrenaline. You let your forehead press to his shoulder. Let yourself breathe.
“You okay?” he asks, voice wrecked.
You nod against him, but you can’t hide the fact you’re shaking.
“You came,” you whisper. “You got here.”
He pulls back just enough to look at you.
“I always will.”
You don’t let go.
The hotel lobby is too bright.
Artificial light washes over upholstered chairs and glass-topped tables, and the scent of something overly citrusy hangs in the air. You hate it. You hate how it feels to sit still after something like that. You hate how normal it all looks.
The team has regrouped, huddled around a seating area tucked away from the elevators. Garcia is patched in through a tablet set up on the table, video call flickering just slightly.
“DNA under Blackwood’s nails matches the last victim,” she confirms. “And there’s timestamped security footage of him leaving the same club as the second victim the night of her murder. We’re solid.”
Everyone exhales. JJ leans back against the sofa. Emily’s got a paper cup of coffee she’s holding like it might anchor her to the planet. Derek’s pacing. Rossi’s talking softly to Hotch a few feet away.
You’re curled in an armchair, wearing an FBI windbreaker jacket over your slinky dress, legs tucked under you, fingers still brushing where he grabbed your wrist. The pressure’s gone, but the shape of it lingers.
Spencer’s across from you. Elbows on his knees, hands folded together. He hasn’t looked at you once since you separated from him to give your statement back at the scene.
You’re not surprised.
That’s always the case with him: once safe, he pulls away. Retreats into himself, into the comfort of something he can control. You’ve seen him do it before, but tonight it feels personal. Tonight, you’re mad about it.
“Thanks for the assist in there,” you say softly, desperate to pull him back to you.
He nods, still not meeting your eyes. “Of course.”
You fold your arms across your chest and pretend you don’t feel cold blooming again behind your ribs.
You don’t expect a grand gesture. You’re not someone who needs to be rescued. But you wish — god, you wish — that he’d stop trying to shrink the thing between you into something that doesn’t matter.
Because it does matter. You know that now. He looked at you in that club like it does. He held you like it does. And it sure as hell feels like it does, especially now.
No one else notices the tension between you. They’re all distracted, all coming down off the adrenaline high in their own ways. You wish you had something to do with your hands.
“Alright,” Hotch says, checking his watch. “Everyone get some rest. We’ll regroup in the morning before we fly home.”
The team heads to the elevators in quiet pairs, and you hang back a moment so you can ride up alone.
You’re barely through the door to your room when there’s a knock at the adjoining one. You unlock it before your brain can convince you otherwise, and once you’ve got it open, Spencer’s standing there with one hand raised like he was about to knock again. You don’t let him speak.
“You here to debrief, or to ignore me some more?”
He freezes.
“Because if it’s the first,” you continue, “we already did that in the lobby. If it’s the second, I’ve had enough of that for one night.”
His hand drops.
“I’m not here to debrief. Or to ignore you.”
There’s a beat of silence, then he steps into your room like it hurts to cross the threshold.
“I just wanted to talk,” he says. “To explain why I got weird after—”
“You don’t need to explain anything.”
You say it too fast. Too sharp. And you know he hears the lie in it.
Spencer closes the door behind him gently. Then he turns.
“I hated it,” he says quietly.
You blink. “What?”
“I hated watching you flirt with those men tonight.”
You stare at him for a long beat. Something inside you twists.
“You were fifteen feet away, Spencer.”
“I know.”
“I was undercover.”
“I know.”
“The unsub didn’t touch me until the very end, and even then—”
“I know,” he says again. “But I still hated it.”
You fold your arms across your chest, like that will keep everything caged inside. “Why?”
He looks at you like he can’t even believe you’re asking.
You press him anyway. “Why did you hate it, Spencer?”
His brow furrows. “Because you were in danger.”
“No,” you say, shaking your head. “That’s not it.”
“Yes, it is.”
“No,” you repeat. “That’s why you were afraid. I’m asking why you hated it. I’m asking about jealousy. I’m asking about the part where you couldn’t even look at me.”
His mouth opens, then closes.
You cross the room and stop in front of him, close enough to see the flicker in his eyes. “Do you have any idea how hard that was for me? Being there, with you? Pretending? Letting you touch me like any of this means something? And then you just… abandoned me after it was over and avoided making eye contact as if I’m fucking Medusa or something.”
“I didn’t know how to act,” he admits. “Or what to say.”
“I’m not asking for poetry,” you say, exasperated. “I’m asking for something. Anything. Because I felt like I was going to die in that club, but the worst part wasn’t even his hand on my throat. It was wondering if you’d still pretend none of this matters.”
The words hit. Spencer flinches like you’ve slapped him.
“I’m not pretending,” he says, voice hoarse. “I was scared. I’ve been scared for months.”
“Of what?” Your voice rises. “Of me?”
“No,” he says. “Of losing you.”
You laugh once, short and sharp. “You’ve never had me.”
He steps back like the words burned him. “Don’t say that.”
“Why not? It’s true.”
“It’s not.”
You stare at him. Your heart is racing. You’re exhausted. You can still feel the pressure of the unsub’s hands on your skin, and Spencer’s arms around you, and the fact that neither of you seem capable of telling the truth until it’s too late.
“I’m not some fantasy, Spencer,” you say, quieter now. “I’m not just always going to be here when you want attention or sex or someone to lean on after a bad case. And I can’t keep being whatever you need if you’re going to keep pretending we’re just… coworkers who fuck sometimes.”
“I don’t think that,” he says, stepping closer. “You know I don’t.”
“Do I?” you whisper.
He looks at you - really looks, and takes another step to close the distance.
“I don’t want to keep acting like this is meaningless,” he finally says. “Or like I don’t think about you constantly when you’re not around.”
He pauses, gulps, steadies himself before he adds:
“Or like I haven’t been falling in love with you since you kissed me in that elevator in Boston.”
That knocks the wind out of you.
You say nothing. You can’t. You’re too busy holding your breath like if you let it out, your heart will tumble out with it. He looks so sincere, so raw, so threadbare.
“I don’t want temporary. Not with you. With you, I want everything,” he says softly.
And that’s when you fall into him.
It’s not graceful. It’s not soft. It’s a collision of everything you’ve both been holding back — anger and relief and love and ache, all packed into the same breath, into the greediness of your lips against his.
His hands find your waist like they’re finally accepting it’s where they belong. Yours curl into the fabric of his shirt and tug.
You move together without thinking, stumbling toward the bed.
“You should’ve said something sooner,” you murmur between kisses.
“I didn’t know how.”
You push him back onto the mattress and crawl over him, breath heaving. “You do now.”
And then your mouth is on his again.
It’s messy. Not rushed, but a little frantic — like the both of you are trying to find your way back to something you never really had to begin with.
His hands are on your hips, then your ass, pulling you down against him as your thighs straddle his waist. Your dress comes off. His belt is unbuckled. Everything about the moment feels slightly unmade yet still overwhelmingly perfect.
“I’ve thought about you every night since Boston,” he murmurs against your throat. “Every single time I’m around you, it’s all I can think about. Even when I’m not around you, you’re all I think about.”
You grind down against the shape of him through his pants and he groans, hips flexing. His mouth grazes your collarbone, then your shoulder, as if he’s tracing the map of you in reverse — starting from memory, finishing with fact.
And then — he looks at you. Really looks.
It doesn’t happen often. But when it does, it’s always like this:
Like he’s watching a sunrise unfurl from the inside. Like it’s almost too much for him to bear.
“I love the way you look at me,” you whisper.
“I’ve never looked at anyone else like this,” he replies. His voice is low, and it makes your knees go weak.
You reach for the button on his pants and he stills you with a hand on your wrist.
“Not yet,” he murmurs.
He shifts the weight, flipping the two of you and guiding you gently to lie back against the pillows. His hands trail over your chest, your stomach, your hipbones — not teasing, but anchoring. He tugs at the waistband of your lacy black underwear, and you lift your hips to aid him in taking them off.
When his mouth dips between your thighs, you nearly sob.
Because it’s not just about getting you off — not right away. It’s about presence. About reverence. He kisses the inside of your knee. Your inner thigh. Trails his nose up the side of your leg like he’s cataloging your scent. When his tongue finally makes contact with your center, it’s slow. Devout, almost. Like your entire existence is something holy he’s come to worship.
You bury your hands in his hair and exhale something like a prayer.
His tongue flicks. Sucks. Circles. Presses flat. You moan his name, and his groan vibrates through you.
Then, two fingers, slow and certain, slide in deep.
You gasp. Arch. He murmurs something soft against your thigh, but you barely catch it over the sound of your own breathing.
“That’s it,” he says, lifting his head just enough to look at you. His voice is low, frayed. “You’re so beautiful like this. All open and needy for me.”
You whimper. “Spence—fuck—”
His jaw clenches. You can almost see it before you hear him say it:
“Good girl.”
God, how those words ruin you.
Your whole body pulses.
Your orgasm hits low and hot — a deep, dragging pull in your gut that spreads outward in waves. Your thighs clamp around his shoulders. Your head tips back. You make a sound you didn’t know you were capable of — something between a sob and a moan — as it crests and crests and crests again.
But he doesn’t stop.
You whine. “Spencer. Too much—”
“I know baby,” he murmurs, voice molten. “But you can give me one more. Just one more for me. Please?”
How could you ever deny him?
Your body bows without permission — back arching, thighs twitching, another cry tearing from your throat. It rolls through you like heat lightning, wild and blinding, buzzing like static electricity.
By the time he finally pulls back, you’re gasping, wrecked, flushed all over.
He presses a kiss to the inside of your thigh. Then another. Then your hipbone, your stomach, your breasts, your sternum.
You pull him up into a slow, grateful kiss and roll him beneath you, fingers curling around the buttons of his shirt.
“Off,” you murmur.
He lets you undress him, never breaking eye contact. When he’s bare under you, you settle against him, chest to chest.
You reach down and stroke him slowly, watching the way his lips part and his brows knit together.
He catches your wrist before you can do more.
“I’m gonna lose it if you keep that up.”
You smile and shift against him, lining up your hips.
“Maybe I want you to lose it a little.”
But he doesn’t. Not yet.
He flips you gently onto your back again and slides between your thighs, one hand cradling the back of your head, the other guiding himself into you.
The stretch makes you gasp, but the moment is slow. Steady.
He sinks in deep — inch by inch, until you’re full, until your nails are digging into his shoulders.
“Jesus,” he mutters. “You feel…”
“Like you’ve been falling in love with me since Boston?” you whisper, almost teasingly.
His eyes flick to yours, dark and unguarded.
“Something like that,” he murmurs with a soft smile.
He pulls out almost all the way, then thrusts back in, long and slow. You hook your thigh around his waist, giving him deeper access to every part of you. The rhythm builds — deliberate, relentless — hips grinding just right, his forehead dropping to yours.
“Open your eyes, baby.”
You do, just barely.
“Look at me.”
You do, and he holds your gaze like it’s the only thing anchoring him to the earth.
“You’re mine,” he says roughly. “Say it.”
You breathe out the words, partially for the sake of obedience but mostly because you mean them wholeheartedly. “I’m yours.”
Something cracks behind his eyes. “That’s right. That’s right, sweet girl. You’re mine.”
The praise and possessiveness tear through you. You clench around him and he stutters, breath breaking.
Your body starts to spiral again, tension building almost too fast. “I can’t—Spence, I’m gonna—it’s so much, I—”
His hand cups your jaw, grounding you.
“Yes, you can,” he says, tone dripping in sweetness. “You can. Let go. I want to feel all of it.”
He slips a hand between you and presses soft circles where you’re already pulsing. The overload is immediate — your back arches, your legs lock around his waist, and you sob his name as you fall apart for the third time, body shaking, salty tears leaking from the corners of your eyes. Spencer kisses them away, one by one.
When you finally come back to yourself, he’s still moving. Faster now, messier. His rhythm stutters as your body clenches around him, drawing him in deeper.
He curses into your neck, his voice low and a little helpless.
You press your lips to his ear. “Don’t stop, Spence. Need you to come for me.”
The tension in him coils tighter, his thrusts shallower now, more erratic, like he’s negotiating with his own body for just a few more seconds. You watch it happen — his mouth parting, lashes fluttering, that soft gasp he always makes right before—
His hips stutter. He drives in deep, one final time.
And then he shatters.
He comes hard, gasping your name into the side of your neck, arms trembling as he tries not to collapse. You hold him to you, breath shaking as you feel the aftershocks ripple through him.
It’s not clean or composed. It’s full-body and bone-deep, the kind of release that empties something unnamed. His whole weight sinks into you, like his body finally gave up pretending it could survive without yours.
Neither of you say anything at first. It’s all just shared breath and the heat of skin on skin, a heart beating against your ribs that might be his or yours — at this point, you’re no longer able to tell the difference.
Eventually, he shifts, just barely, enough to press a kiss to your collarbone.
You turn your head and kiss his temple, fingers in his hair.
His voice is soft when it comes:
“I’m yours, you know.”
And that’s the moment it hits you — quiet and certain. Like your body already knew, and your mind is finally catching up:
You love him. Of course you love him. You’ve been falling for him since Boston, just like he’s been falling for you.
You close your eyes and smile into his skin. “I know,” you murmur back. “And I was always yours.”
You don’t know how long you lay like that — tangled together, skin damp, hearts still syncing. The room is dark, save for the thin bar of light spilling in under the hotel curtains. The bedsheets are bunched around your thighs. One of his hands is resting on your hip, the other curled into your hair like he never plans to let go.
You stroke his back slowly, the way you’ve always wanted to — not as a way to coax or distract or ground him, but simply because you can.
“Are you okay?” he asks softly.
You nod against his shoulder. “Yeah. Are you?”
He huffs a breath — not quite a laugh. “Getting there.”
After a few more moments of comfortable silence, you speak again:
“Stay.”
He lifts his head, eyes glassy and soft.
“You sure?”
You nod again, slower this time. “I want you to.”
There’s a long pause, but then he kisses you — not rushed like before, not like something he’s afraid of losing. Just a kiss, plain and true.
He shifts off you carefully, murmuring a soft “hang on,” and grabs a tissue from the nightstand to clean you up. It’s quiet, almost instinctive. He doesn’t make a show of it — just does it gently, like it’s wired into him to want to take care of you like this.
Then he reaches down and pulls the comforter over your bodies, nudging you to lie on your side so he can curl himself around you. His chest to your back, one arm snug around your waist. You settle against him like you were designed for it — and maybe you really were.
After a while, you feel him press his lips to your shoulder.
“I wasn’t going to leave anyways,” he whispers.
You wake to the sound of a watch alarm beeping on the side table. For a second, you forget where you are.
Then you feel it — the warmth pressed along your back, the steady rise and fall of Spencer’s chest against you. His arm still draped around your waist. Sleepy kisses at the top of your spine, like he’s been waiting for you to stir.
“Morning,” Spencer mumbles against your skin.
You smile without opening your eyes. “Hi,” you whisper. He kisses your neck again, and you giggle. “Is this the part where you tell me it was all just a heat-of-the-moment thing and go back to calling me ‘agent’?”
He huffs a sleepy laugh and tightens his grip. “Not unless you want me to.”
You wait a beat. Let the silence stretch.
“I don’t want you to,” you finally murmur.
His voice softens. “Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
He presses another kiss to your back, and you feel him smile into it.
The flight back to Quantico appears normal from the outside, but inside, you’re buzzing.
Morgan is asleep with his arms crossed. Emily has her headphones in. JJ is half-reading, half-daydreaming. Rossi and Hotch are reviewing something on a tablet in the back.
No one notices the way Spencer chooses the seat next to you instead of across. Or how his knee keeps brushing yours — casual, insistent, like an inside joke only the two of you are in on.
Your phone buzzes in your lap and you glance down, already smiling.
Spencer’s phone is in his hand and he’s looking at you, cheeks pink.
Spencer Reid: Would you maybe want to come over tonight after we land, if you’re not too tired?
You bite your lip and smile as you type back.
You: You asking me out, Dr. Reid?
There’s a pause. Then:
Spencer Reid: I’m asking you in, actually.
But next time I’ll take you out. Promise.
You glance sideways at him, trying not to grin too hard. He’s wearing that smile you love — the boyish, slightly shy one he only ever breaks out when he’s attempting to play it cool. You give him a wink and a nod in lieu of a written response, and his smile grows.
It’s in that moment — in the glow of his grin and the comfort of his knee pressed softly against yours — when you realize that maybe there was never a wall between the two of you at all.
Just a door, waiting for one of you to knock and leave it open.

Notes: This was a the last piece leftover from the little request fest I threw when I hit 300 followers. This week I've just hit 3500. I've always had an idea of wanting to tell a story with this prompt featuring a post-Thunderbolts Bucky, and as time wore on and we got closer to the movie ACTUALLY coming out, it seemed better to wait and see what would happen. It only gave more for me to work into my original idea, and I'm really pleased with how it turned out now. I sketched out most of the outline and quite a bit of dialogue back in spring/summer of 2023, and the majority of that is still here, including the fic title.

The taste in your mouth is wet coins.
For a long, soft moment, you assume you must have rolled off your own bed and onto the floor, but the linoleum—if it is linoleum—is too cold and too smooth, and the air had that sterile, metallic nip associated with hospital waiting rooms and broken lightbulbs.
And why would you have rolled off your bed onto the floor? You weren’t in bed the last moment you remember, and you wouldn’t have fallen asleep in your clothes.
No, the last thing you remember was softly closing your front door behind you, humming to yourself as you flicked the lock closed, and then a sudden sting to your neck.
There’s a sting in your eyes now because you realize the awful truth.
The worst case scenario you and your boyfriend had only ever spoken about once because it was a viable possibility, a hazard of dating him: you’d been kidnapped.
You sit up, gracelessly, and your teeth chatter. You let yourself feel the terror, but only for a heartbeat—your brain rings with it, a tuning fork of dread, and you clamp it down, hard, into the pit of your stomach where it radiates. Not now. You need to think.
You take inventory: arms and legs both work, hands still attached, no obvious wounds besides the soreness blooming at your neck like a thumbprint on a peach. You press the tender spot and wince.
The room is not what you would have imagined for a kidnapping. It’s wintry and lit too brightly. You’re inside a small cube, walling you off with thick, aquarium-grade panels of glass. The encasement is large enough for you to reasonably pace back and forth, but there’s no furniture, no cot or even a pillow or a bowl of water. Whoever has taken you must not plan on keeping you here long, and that could be either very good or very bad for you.
Beyond the glass, the room is cathedral-big, with a single wall of windows running from floor to ceiling. Daylight pours in, and by your best guess it’s afternoon sunlight. Probably the same afternoon you were taken as you’re not hungry or thirsty.
Scratch that.
You are thirsty, but not uncomfortably so.
You swab your tongue around your gums, tasting metal and something else—something faint and sharp, like ozone during a summer thunderstorm. There is no handle or aperture on your side of the glass, only a seamless plane, and you get the sense that were you to pound your fists on it, it would barely quiver. Still, you raise your hand and press your palm to the surface, feeling its chill seep into your bones.
Nothing. No movement, no sign of life in the luminous cathedral beyond.
It isn’t fear that keeps you quiet, exactly. You simply know, with a fundamental certainty, that if you were to scream or shout, no one would come. You’re a captive sentenced to solitude until someone deigns to antagonize or rescue you.
The silence is not total. There is a white noise, a faint thrum—ventilation, perhaps, or some slow machine grinding in the bowels of the building. If it is a building. You aren’t sure what else it could be, but it feels crucial not to assume.
You check yourself for tracking bugs, but you’re still clothed: a hoodie, jeans, your comfortable sneakers. You didn’t dress for comfort in case of kidnap, but at least that went well for you with what the universe apparently had in store for you today. You have your watch - an old piece from your grandmother, no smart capabilities there, which is probably why it’s still on your wrist. No phone, of course, and your pockets are nearly empty. Lint in one and - thoughtfully for whoever this villain and their cronies are - your lip balm in the other.
At least you won’t have chapped lips.
You pace the perimeter, mapping the enclosure with your steps. Six and a half paces by five, three full circuits before your limbs stop feeling groggy and your brain thundering with each heartbeat.
After the third circuit, you crouch, and then sink down to the ground, pressing your back up against the glass, facing forward to the wall of windows. Unfortunately you’re not even close enough to the windows to catch any of the sunlight - would’ve been nice to be able to bathe in it sleepily like a housecat.
You count your breaths. By forty-two, you’re over it. You slide down the glass a little further, legs splayed. You rest your head against the glass panel and close your eyes, just for the luxury of not seeing where you are.
You are almost comfortable, almost numbed into resignation, when the silence is broken by a blunt, echoing clank.
You shift on instinct, drawing your knees up to crouch defensively, ready to propel yourself in either direction or attack if needed, though there isn’t much direction to go.
There’s a second clank, sharper. A shadow falls across the threshold, and then a white panel in the wall slides away like a bank vault, soundless, on hidden rails. The cold is sharper now, and you catch the smell of winter through the climate-controlled sterility: iron, gun oil, something so clean it’s almost dangerous.
A figure enters, and your surge of adrenaline is strong and immediate, tinged with hope, and your heart soars. This is not your captor, not a faceless goon or a hissing cackler like you’d half-expected. This is someone you know.
Bucky Barnes.
It’s not your boyfriend, but one of his old trusty allies, though it’s been a long time since he and Sam have worked together or even seen each other.
He is broader than you remember, hair falling in dark, soft waves around his face. He’s not in tactical gear, instead wearing a charcoal suit that fits him too well, like he used to when he was a senator. That’s when you’d first met him.
His eyes are the pale blue of a glacier's heart, flat and expressionless, and for a moment you think maybe this isn't Bucky. Maybe it's the other him, the one people used to fear - the old Winter Soldier, not the one who was part of the New Avengers, not the one who had worked with Sam, not the one they called the White Wolf.
He stands behind the glass, and you realize the panel has remained opened in the outer chamber, but not for you. It's for him. Your throat closes, choking on his name.
"Bucky?" you croak, and then wish you hadn't. The sound is needy, broken. You weren't going to be that person—someone who begged at the first sight of a familiar face.
He looks at you, head tilting very slightly, as if he's listening to music only he can hear.
“Are you hurt?” His voice sounds normal, maybe a little raspier than you remember, but still warm enough to seep through the wall and thaw your panic a degree. You shake your head. The glass does nothing to blur your expression, so you let it hang open, let him see everything you’re feeling, the fear and the hope braided together into something that tastes as bitter as old coffee.
Bucky studies you with that same tilted curiosity, the kind that makes you feel like he’s already taken you apart in his mind and knows exactly how you’re put together.
You edge forward, still on your knees. “Where’s Sam?” you ask, and the moment you say it, the question feels both necessary and perilous.
Bucky glances at the panel behind him, lips pressed together as if considering whether to share the answer or let it fester.
He glances over his shoulder. You realize then he’s not alone in the cathedral beyond. Two figures—faceless in sleek black, like chess pieces—stand sentinel behind him. They don’t move, don’t even appear to breathe, and a cold animal part of your brain registers that they don’t need to. They’re just there to watch.
He steps closer, so close his breath briefly fogs a patch of the glass between you. “He’s busy, but he’s on his way.”
Coolness spreads through your veins.
Bucky’s eyes flick to the corners of the cube, where cameras you hadn’t noticed are now winking alive, the power inlet’s red dots glaring. You’re being recorded—filmed, archived, maybe studied—and the revelation lands with a dull, resonant thud. You try not to show your panic on your face, but your body betrays you: fingers curl, jaw tenses, pupils go wide.
He is not here for a rescue. You know it before you know you know it.
"Why am I here, Bucky?" Your question comes out too steady. You want to throw something at him—your shoe, your voice, your fear—but there’s not enough space in this box for anger, only the condensation of every instinct you have, crowding in, begging you to understand.
“The safest place for you right now is here.” He says it quietly, like he’s apologizing, but the immediacy of it, the lack of debate, has your mind racing, his words in no way soothing.
“Bucky,” you say, “let me out.”
He shakes his head, almost fondly. “I can’t. Not yet.”
You stand, legs trembling, and you press both hands to the glass when you say, “Please. Whatever this is, don’t do this.”
You expect him to sigh or look away, but instead Bucky studies you with that lethal patience you’ve seen before, the one that made you want to work for his congressional campaign when you first met him, the one that made him a shrewd negotiator in the House of Representatives. He waits so long you want to scream, but then he raises his hand—slow, deliberate—and presses it to the glass, palm-to-palm with yours. Despite physics, you almost feel the pressure, the almost-heat leaking across the boundary.
"It’s already done," he says.
You stare at him, a thousand implications creasing into your mind, none of them good. "What have you done?" you whisper, because you know it’s not only about the kidnapping, not really.
Bucky’s jaw flexes, and, again, he doesn’t speak right away. His fingers splay, as if wanting to catch yours on the other side, and then curl into a fist, knuckles whitening against the cold.
“Technically speaking, I haven’t done anything yet,” he says. A smile, thin and wintry, crosses his lips. “But I did send a message.” He says it with the offhand air of someone admitting to forgetting to water their plants.
Your brain scrambles. “A message to who? Sam?”
He shakes his head, though not in the way someone would if they were lying. “To enough people at the top - Sam, Valentina, government officials.”
He waits for you to catch up. Sam hadn’t been able to tell you about the message he’d received - common when he got called away to do Captain America work - but he’d looked more concerned than usual.
You watch Bucky’s face for hints, for the shadow of an old self or a new one. Bucky, who once avoided all but necessity, has always been the kind of person who made statements with action, not words. But this—this was theater.
He leans a shoulder against the glass, as if the two of you are just tired of standing at a long party, finding a quiet spot together. “Do you want to know what it said?”
You don’t.
But you nod, because not-knowing is the same as being powerless, and you can’t bear the cold feeling of helplessness.
He cocks his head, almost gently. “It said that unless certain demands were met, a biotoxin would be released at the heart of Manhattan. Three hours for it to spread across the borough. After that, containment would be impossible. The message detailed three drop points for the ransom, and a protocol for negotiation.” He says it without bravado, a recitation of fact, as if he’s reading it from cue cards in his head.
You try to laugh. It comes out as a dry, shuddering guffaw. “That’s—cartoon villain stuff, Bucky.”
He shrugs, as if that’s the point.
You rub your hands over your face, and for a moment you are tempted to laugh harder, because this is what Sam always used to joke about: that Bucky operated on logic so clean it seemed mad, his thinking a locked-room puzzle with only one solution.
“Why?”
“No one was listening to anything else anymore.”
You swallow, but your mouth is dry again. “You could’ve called Sam.”
Bucky’s eyes flicker, and for a second you see the old pain underneath, a wince almost too quick to mark. But in its wake is an emotionless frown. “You know I couldn’t.”
Your chest hollows at the words because you know he’s right. He and Sam haven’t spoken for months, and the last time they did, it went poorly.
Bucky is watching you with a steady, unblinking intensity. You get the unsettling sense he’s rehearsed this conversation in his head, every line and gesture.
“Sam has forty-seven minutes to show up here and deliver the payment,” Bucky continues.
“Does Sam know it’s you?” you ask.
He considers the question, lets his eyes drag up and down the box, your body, your face. “No,” he says. “Not yet.”
“And what then?” You press. “He comes, you do your villain monologue, and what, he hands over cash and saves the day?”
“Untraceable cryptocurrency. And it’s not money I’m after.”
Bucky stands there, his blue eyes eating the distance between you. There’s a hush like reverence, like the building itself is holding its breath. Both of you are silent, and for a moment the glass between you softens, your memories of him rewinding to that first campaign event in the corridor of the Natural Hisory Museum, when he’d looked at you so long and so full of yearning, but you’d just started working his PR team days before, and neither one of you had wanted to cross professional boundaries. You’d met Sam later that night.
But that look… He’s looking at you like that now, older and sadder, but somehow more intent.
He presses his forehead to the glass, and it seems less like a threat and more like a confession. "You know," he says, voice low, "I still think about the night I introduced you to Sam. I wanted to kiss you then. Think I should’ve. Instead, I decided it would be less complicated to let my best friend take a chance with you instead. I knew you’d be good for each other."
The ache in your chest shifts, nostalgia and fear suddenly indistinguishable. You stare at the space between you and try not to let it show, the old hunger, the regret.
But there’s anger there now, too.
"You don’t get to say things like that," you respond.
“You can’t stop me.”
You want to spit or hiss or stomp at him, say something sharp and scathing, but your own feelings are scattered and skittering as you try to make sense of this situation.
“Don’t try and say you did this all for me,” you finally manage, and you almost sound angry.
And you are. But you’re also tangled by a feeling you’d buried years ago when you committed to Sam, convinced yourself that your short stint of longing for Bucky was little more than a whim. But it is still there, uncovered from a place you forgot existed, reverberating in your bones, making you ache.
Something in his face flickers, another microexpression so brief you almost miss it. He leans back from the glass, folding his arms, the suit tightening across his chest. “I won’t lie to you. This isn’t all for you, and it isn’t all for Sam.” His voice turns quiet, almost uncertain. “But if I didn’t want you, I would have done this without you. You weren’t necessary for the plan, but you’re certainly worth it.” He lets the words hang between you, sees the way they knot your throat. “So don’t doubt how much I want you.”
That admission robs you of the breath from your lungs. You only realize your jaw has dropped when he smirks.
“Now,” Bucky resumes, beginning to pace casually in front of you. You know it’s a move to momentarily lower the stakes given everything he’s just said. “Once Sam gets here, I’m going to offer him a choice: save you or save the city.”
“He’s going to pick the city,” you respond automatically.
“Oh, we both know that’s not even a question for our dutiful Captain America, but I want you to observe and assess how long it takes him to make the decision.”
Your brow furrows.
“He will disappoint you,” Bucky says.
“Bucky, don’t say that. Don’t be cruel.”
His eyes flick back to yours, and for a second they’re raw, not glacial at all, but blue as bruises. “I’m not trying to be cruel. I want you to see the world as it is. As I do now.” He pauses. “You once said only the honest stuff matters. Remember?”
You do remember. On the rooftop of a hotel in D.C., debating a speech draft, Bucky had said honesty was the only way to cut through the noise. You’d laughed—knowing how honesty had almost destroyed him once—and now you wished you hadn’t. You wished you’d listened more closely.
He presses his hand to the glass again, his whole body vibrating with something that looks like need and restraint, and maybe a dash of childish hope.
You want to hate him, but you can’t. Maybe you could if it were anyone else, if the person threatening your life and Sam’s career and the largest city in the country, hadn’t seeped into your heart so long ago.
And why was that romantic ripple resurfacing now when you’d been so content to have him platonically exist in your life?
You had been content with Sam.
You still were.
You look away, throat raw.
"And if Sam doesn't come for me?"
Bucky’s laugh is soft, brief, and not as cruel as a villain’s should be. "He will.”
And he does.
Same bursts onto the scene when there are only twenty-seven minutes left to save the city.
“All of this was you? All along?” Sam thunders at Bucky.
He still has a hand on the glass, having rushed to you the second he saw you were part of this messy situation, too, but his full attention was now on the other man.
Apparently your kidnapping is something Sam hadn’t discovered until this moment. Which made sense. He’d left your apartment to take care of the world, and it was still the same day. He hadn’t even had time to reasonably have figured out you’d gone missing.
“That explains why this whole area is a dead zone for Red Wing,” Sam adds.
Bucky’s only response: a shrug.
He oozes such nonchalance you know it’s boiling Sam’s blood more than almost anything else.
“Come on, man, this isn’t you,” Sam insists.
Bucky cocks his head to the side. “Except clearly it is. And isn’t it inevitable? Just going back to my roots, right? Like everyone said about me and the rest of the New Avengers. Only a matter of time until we reverted to our nefarious settings.”
Sam’s jaw tenses. “That’s not what I said. I never said that about you.” Sam’s voice is tight, incredulous but not, you realize, surprised. “You think I ever saw you that way? After everything?”
“No?” Bucky’s lips tick up at the corners. “Could’ve fooled me. You remember the last time we talked, right? The argument over who had claim to the team, the name, the whole damn legacy? You know I never wanted any of that. Valentina made sure my face was on the front page for her own benefit, not mine. That was her power move, not mine.”
Sam’s gaze doesn’t waver. “You let her.”
Bucky’s hands flex at his sides; the metal fingers twitch and sing against each other. “I let her because I knew where the real threats were. I thought I could steer if I had one hand on the wheel, if I knew what was coming, turns out I was wrong. You want to talk about legacies, Sam? You got to choose yours. All I ever got was a list of people to kill that just keeps getting longer.”
You can see the hurt behind Bucky’s words; it’s so absent of melodrama that it slaps harder than any shouted accusation. Sam stands still, breathing hard through his nose, shoulders squared for a fight neither of them wants but both are already losing.
“Bucky,” Sam says softer now, “I know you think this is the only way, but there’s always another way. Give me the protocol. I’ll fix it. I promise. You can trust me. You always have.”
Bucky’s laugh is ugly and quiet. “You’ll fix it? That’s the problem. Nobody wants it fixed, Sam. The world is addicted to the circus.”
Sam stands very straight. His fist on the glass trembles, a visible effort not to lose his composure. “This isn’t justice. You don’t fix the world by threatening to destroy it.”
“Don’t I? The only thing anyone listens to anymore is a gun to the head. Or in this case a virus to the water supply.”
Bucky draws in a long, deliberate breath, scanning the cathedral-sized chamber as if taking the measure of human history. It’s another theatrical move. You can see so plainly now that Bucky’s pushing Sam’s buttons on purpose. "Now," he says, letting his hands drop to his sides, "I assume you came ready to make the drop. It's a big ask, I know. One point eight billion is a lot of zeros, even for Uncle Sam."
Sam doesn't flinch. "The money’s ready, untraceable transfer, just like you wanted." He threw a pointed look at the two sentinels waiting beyond Bucky, then back to him. "Now drop the coordinates and the codes. Let the authorities handle the rest. Hell, let me handle it if you want."
They exchange small drives - tossing them at the same time to each other from across the short distance. Sam is already pressing the one he caught to the technology face on the panel in the forearm of his suit, and you can see Bucky uploading his funds to a small device in his hand.
“We good now?” Sam asks.
Bucky looks up, one eyebrow raised. "You think I’d make it that simple? After all the theatrics so far? You’re still thinking in terms of clean beginnings and endings. But that’s not how any of this will work,” Bucky deadpans. “Obviously I’ve brought our guest of honor for a reason,” he shifts the focus back to you.
Sam’s eyes flick past Bucky to you, searching for some sign. You give him a small nod, as if to say: I’m okay, keep going, don’t let him win.
But what would winning mean here? What would losing?
Sam’s jaw tics. “You’re not going to do this. You don’t want to hurt anyone. Not really.”
“There’s always a choice, Sam. That’s what you used to say.” Bucky looks, for a moment, almost apologetic. “The system at the deployment site—the only way to access the control terminal is with a biometric confirmation. Yours, Sam. No one else on earth, not even me, could get past it once it’s locked. You’re the linchpin.”
You don’t see the move, not even the flicker of Bucky’s hand—there’s only a flick of light, an infinitesimal click, then a cold bite in your neck. Your hand slaps toward it by reflex; your fingers close over a dart, needle still vibrating where it breached skin. At first, you think it’s a threat, an empty goad to make Sam act, but then your chest constricts, heart stuttering, then galloping so fast you can’t count the beats. Your vision pulses, the color and contrast cranked up to a sickly, menacing degree.
Sam shouts your name. He pounds the glass, rips the shield off his back and tries to breach it with a throw of the titanium to no avail.
So it’s more than mere glass.
Unable to penetrate the clear walls of your cage, Sam round on Bucky. “So you’re going to make me decide. Save the city, or save her.”
“That’s the game.” Bucky finally lets his eyes rest on you again, and the sadness in them isn’t performative, though everything else about this situation is. “If you’re fast enough, maybe you could do both, but is that a gamble you’re willing to take?”
“Damn you, Bucky Barnes!”
Bucky shrugs again. “We can talk it out, if it will make you feel better.”
Bucky rotates his wrist, metal joints clicking. When he continues, his voice is matter-of-fact. “You go for the city right now, you have time to stop this, a win for sure, maybe have time to come back and save her.”
Bucky then nods toward your glass enclosure.
"If you choose her over the city, you can probably get her to a medical professional quickly enough that they can sort her out. You’ll probably miss the window to prevent contamination though. But there will likely be enough time for them to synthesize an antidote. I made sure to use something new. Not in the wild yet. They’ll quarantine and triage, and–”
“Stop, Buck!” Sam cuts him off.
Then your boyfriend turns to you, and his face is soft, the expression broken, pain in his eyes. Sam’s voice is rough as gravel, but clear: “I can’t make a sacrifice like that. Not ever.”
The words hang in the air, immense and echoing. Bucky’s expression doesn’t change, but you see the faintest tremor in the way he sets his jaw—more evidence than any confession that he’d always known what Sam would say.
Sam presses his hand to the glass, and you meet it with your visibly trembling hand. But the gesture seems to pain him as if there wasn’t a barrier between you. “I’m sorry,” he says, and it’s for you, not for Bucky or the world. “I have to.” The words come thick, strangled.
You want to say something clever, something reassuring, but the only thing that escapes in the clenched space of your chest is, “I know.” It escapes in a whisper; your lips barely shape the words.
You let yourself cry, and Sam watches, helpless, his own eyes shining with the effort of keeping himself together. You knew he would choose the city, he had to, but you wish he had shown even a moment of hesitation. Half a moment.
Then Sam turns back to face Bucky. “You won’t get away with this.”
Bucky’s mouth tugs to one side, almost a smirk, but more like something cracked and resisting the urge to bleed out. “Of course I will,” he says. “That’s the game, right? The dangerous former fist of Hydra goes berserk, but only in a way the right people see. If you pull this off, it all stays classified. Just another day of nothing in the files.” He looks at Sam. “You think anyone in charge wants the world to know this was me? This is a PR nightmare the government can’t risk right now.”
The simplicity of it is breathtaking. The threat never even had to be real—only real enough to get everyone moving the way Bucky wants. Only real enough to get the money and to get Sam to choose.
“Don’t think you can just disappear,” Sam says, voice low but iron-strong. “I’ll find you, Bucky.”
There’s the tiniest shimmer of mischief, or perhaps relief, in the crow’s feet at Bucky’s eyes.
“Will you, though?” Bucky’s voice is almost gentle, as if he’s breaking the news of a death to a child. “For decades I was Hydra’s untraceable and lethal assassin. For two years you couldn’t find me, and you were working with Steve who knew me better than anyone, and I was living off next to nothing. Now I have nearly two billion in untraceable cash, I have my mind back, and I know the ins and outs of the modern world. You won’t see me unless I want to be seen.”
Your heart claws at your ribs. The glass magnifies every sound—Sam’s breathing, Bucky’s measured steps, the pulse in your eardrums. You taste blood where you’ve bitten the inside of your cheek.
Sam’s lips curl in a snarl. “You’re not the only one who’s learned a few tricks.”
“Maybe,” Bucky says. “But you’re still too honest to win.”
“How could you do this to me? To Steve?”
Bucky cocks his head to the side. His eyes flick to you for the briefest of moments, and then he says, “You didn’t want me to run out the clock discussing the moral dilemma of saving the city or your girl, but now you want to go over me, you, and Steve? Steve who’s removed himself from the narrative?”
Sam roars in frustration, then turns to look at you again. “I’ll come back for you, I swear,” then races across the floor and leaps off the balcony, off to save the city.
It is, you admit, one hell of an exit.
You can see him—Sam, bright and audacious in the Captain America suit, wings extending like an exclamation mark, darting through the skyline beyond the tall windows. He is smaller, fleeting, a fleck of blue and silver against the impossible glass of the city.
But Bucky doesn’t watch him go. He is watching you.
You slide down the glass, and try to breathe through the chemical tangle in your system. It feels as though the world is going to start sliding off its rails soon; you feel it in the way your pulse speeds and slows, in the clotted shimmer at the edges of your vision. The dart, the toxin, was probably designed for maximum drama, but you don’t know what else it could do.
A low, hydraulic moan startles you from your trance. The glass panels around you shiver, then begin to disappear, sinking in perfect unison into the floor. You scramble to your feet, knees threatening to buckle, and stare at the sudden borderlessness of the room. For a heartbeat, you’re suspended—no cage, no line in the sand, nothing to keep you from collapsing right there.
Bucky advances, quick but cautious, hands visible and open. His silhouette blots out the cathedral lights, broad as a thunderhead. He stops exactly an arm’s length from you, looking at your face as though searching for a misplaced detail.
“Careful,” he warns, voice a scratchy hush. “You’re on a comedown, and it’s a big one.”
You try to say something, but your tongue is a fat, electric slug in your mouth. The cold coins taste returns, sharper than before. “What did you do to me?” you ask.
He crouches cautiously next to you, balancing on the balls of his feet.
“There’s a lot of adrenaline in your system,” Bucky murmurs. “Far more than is natural. It’s spiked everything in your system. As it crashes, you’ll be sluggish, maybe some chills or confusion, but you’ll be okay. I promise.”
You want to believe him. You do, but given what he’s just orchestrated, you’re naturally reluctant.
“What now?” you ask. You’re not even sure who you’re asking: him, the universe, yourself.
Bucky shrugs, all gentle fatalism, and then reaches out—slowly, like you’re a trembling bird that might fling itself into a window if startled—and helps haul you upright. He adjusts his grip to keep you steady, lets you take more of your own weight as you find it.
He leads you out of the big white, windowed theater and down a corridor to an elevator.
A pang needles your heart: he is good at this. At triage, at rescue, at caretaking. At the thousand tiny, invisible gestures that make a person feel seen. Always has been. You hate that you’re grateful for it, just as you hate that you remember the long-ago night of his campaign, that secret gravitational pull between you, the unspoken thing you both stamped down with the solemnity of professionalism.
You don’t want to face where that train of thought leads.
“You made Sam pick. I don’t know if he’ll forgive that.” You try to sound hard-edged, but the words slide out syrupy and damp.
“He doesn’t have to.” Bucky’s voice is almost gentle. “He just has to live with it.”
The elevator dings, and the two of you step in. He punches the top floor.
“And you were right.”
“I wasn’t going to say it.”
And because there’s no reason to hold back, you add, “You didn’t have to twist the knife at the end by pointing out what he was and was not willing to discuss.”
Bucky sighs and drops his head. “No. I didn’t. It was an extra cut of cruelty.” Then he looks up, meets your eyes. “I’m sorry for that.”
The elevator doors slide open, revealing the sort of opulent space that’s either a billionaire’s penthouse lounge or the bridge of a spaceship. You instantly recognize the place, even though you’ve only seen it on screens and in the background of photos: the inner sanctum of Avengers Tower.
Of course. It had to be here. Not a new base, not a black site, not some abandoned eco-bunker in Upstate New York. No, Bucky brought you to the one place that was once the center of the universe for people like him and Sam and all the rest. Even after Tony’s death, after the rebranding and the PR dust-ups and the slow, embarrassing dissolution of the first lineup, the building stood. It was a symbol, indelible and too expensive to demolish, even when all the heroes left in it were ghosts.
Bucky leads you to the counter of what appears to be a bar and helps you into one of the stools there.
The New Avengers had evidently converted it to a cooking area, as well, as you watch Bucky begin to pull out some food and pull together a plate for you.
You watch him, scrutinize him, and you’re sure he knows that’s what you’re doing. He merely endures it, allows it. You assume he knows he owes you that much.
He finally slides the plate in front of you along with a glass of water. “Eat. It’ll help stabilize you more quickly.”
You take a bite out of one of the strawberries on the plate, chew, swallow, then you ask, “There’s no biotoxin, is there?”
Bucky lifts his gaze from where he’s preparing a sandwich for himself. “No. It’s a placebo.”
You pop another strawberry into your mouth and let the silence be the answer for a moment. The water tastes sweeter now, the iron leaching away, leaving only cold relief behind. No biotoxin. Sam would save the world, the money will be untraceable, and Bucky—well, Bucky would get away, wouldn’t he? Or almost.
"So why all this?" you ask, and your voice is steady again. "If it was just about the money, you could’ve found a less theatrical way."
Bucky tilts his head, slicing his sandwich with surgical precision. "I needed to prove a point," he says, not quite looking at you. "To Sam, to Valentina, to whoever is watching the tapes. To myself, maybe. That I can still do the impossible. That I have a choice. Not just a finger on the trigger but a plan. The kind that changes things. To make it clear that I’m done playing their games."
He smiles, half-lopsided, and lets his long exhale fill the empty space between you.
“I could have done it,” he says, and for the first time he sounds almost frightened by the idea. “I thought about it, how easy it would be. Make them all beg, make every suit in D.C. panic. But I couldn’t.” His eyes dart up, meet yours. “I couldn’t risk you.”
You look down at your hands, which are barely shaking now, and rub your thumb into the tender crook of your elbow where the dart had hit. There’s no swelling, no mark, just the memory of panic and the aftertaste of adrenaline. No biotoxin, no threat to a city’s population that could endanger the world, just a glass of water and a plate of fruit in a room of too many old ghosts.
You finish the strawberries, then some of the grapes. It’s not enough sugar to counter the crash, but it brings clarity. The clarity is not comforting.
“Are you going to disappear now?” you ask.
Bucky wipes bread crumbs from his fingers. “Very soon. I wanted to see you safe, first.” He hesitates, leans his weight onto the heel of his hand, like he’s about to confess something with weight.
You push him in the direction you hope he’s going. “Why did you bring me into this? Did you really need to prove Sam’s more Boy Scout than boyfriend? That he’d sacrifice me for millions, for the greater good?”
Bucky’s gaze sharpens. “You knew he would. And so did I.”
Bucky didn’t answer right away. Instead, he slid a grape off the stem, rolled it between his thumb and forefinger, as if the answer might be contained somewhere in the slick green skin. When he finally spoke, his voice was almost mild, but there was a sandpaper edge under the calm.
“There’s something different about him. Over the years since he took up the shield, since he started making the world’s problems his own, he’s…” Bucky let the grape fall, steadied his hands on the counter, “He’s not letting anyone in anymore. Not even you. You can feel it, right?”
You wanted to protest, to say Sam was just tired, just carrying the weight of a world that had never belonged to him, a world that had only ever demanded and doubted. That he came home to you at night, sometimes wordless and aching, sometimes with a wild, generous joy that made all the distance worth it. But you did feel it.
The last few months had been like living with a shadow, the two of you orbiting each other in careful ellipses, sharing space but not gravity. You’d told yourself it was just the stress, that this phase would pass. But how long would you have to keep saying that?
You shrugged, unsure if the gesture was defensive or conciliatory. “He’s got a lot riding on him. They all do. It’s not like anybody’s waiting to see if Captain America screws up, right?”
“Maybe. Or maybe he’s losing too much of himself to the machine.”

Even if that means chasing after us for the next few years.” He says it not with bravado, but with the sigh of someone who’s accepted the cost of his actions.
Bucky’s thumb drew a few more circles over your hand, and you watched with the drowsy clarity of afterglow as he studied you, the long focus of a man who still had something left to say. He let you sleep for most of the flight, let you curl and sprawl across his lap and the seat, but somewhere over the dark green quilt of the Irish Sea, he angled your face up to his with a touch so gentle you almost missed the gravity behind it.
“You know,” he said, “I didn’t do any of this–bring you into it–because I thought Sam was a bad person. Not even because I thought he was a bad partner to you.” The words were slow, deliberate, like he meant them to lodge somewhere deep and stay. “I just wanted you to see the thing he never lets you see—how, in a pinch, he’ll always run toward the fire. Even if you’re the one burning.”
It was a monstrous thing to say, but Bucky didn’t hold back from the full measure of his meaning.
“He did love you,” he says. “Still does. You know that, right?”
The words land heavy and soft, an ache buried under the warmth of the blanket, the pressurized hush of the jet. You want to nod, to agree, but something in Bucky’s expression dares you to challenge that, to perhaps ask for more.
“He did,” you echo, your voice shot through with all the hurt, relief, and confusion you’d stored on a shelf in the back of your mind that you’d ignored. Because sometimes that’s just what couples do. “You don’t have to defend him. Or me.”
“He’s better in so many ways than me,” Bucky says, not so much conceding as saluting, as if the point is a living monument somewhere between you. “But he’s been Captain America so long, he’s started to believe the only way to love anyone is to protect them from everything, even himself. Maybe especially himself.”
You catch the twinge in Bucky’s voice, the jealousy and the admiration braided together so tightly you can’t tell where one leaves off and the other picks up. You tried to find the flaw in this logic, some hidden malice or manipulation, but the words rang too true. The last year with Sam had been a string of empty nights in his apartment or yours, half-eaten dinners, phone calls cut short by emergencies with names you never learned and crises that belonged to the world.
“You deserve someone who’ll always pick you. Even if it’s selfish. Even if it’s not the end the story wants. And I never want you to wonder–I didn't do this because of him, I did it for me. It's the only truly villainous thing I did today.”
You open your mouth to reply, but there is something inside you, a molten sorrow or longing or both, that makes words taste foreign. For a moment, you just look at Bucky—the long, tired face of a man who’s lost nearly everything more than once, and yet still offers up his devotion, his heart, his everything.
There is a comfort in that. Not the comfort of fairy tales or sunny brunches with friends, but the comfort of an old wound that’s finally healed over, ugly and permanent, yes, but proof you survived.
You nestle in, letting Bucky wrap you tighter, and the two of you pass the last leg of the flight in an unspoken truce with your ghosts, listening only to the lull of engines and the steady, intermittent thump of his heart. A heart that you know is yours and yours alone. It’s not a magic ending. It’s a messy beginning. But it’s tangible, real, something whole that you know you can grasp and hold without hesitation.
This villain is yours, and if your full embrace of this new alternative makes you villainous, too, at least you know it’s the two of you all in, hand in hand, together.

A visit from their betrothed would go like...
Edgar
The absolute picture of a gentleman while escorting you around the grounds, his arm locked politely against yours as he shows you all his favorite spots at Weston. Edgar holds that persona well until he has the briefest moment alone with you, and he has a chance to fluster you.
You’ve found yourself betrothed to a real charmer; the second your chaperone looks away, he’s pressing resolute kisses against every small bit of bare skin he can get. His breath is warm as he whispers little bits of poetry into your ears: Keats, Byron, Shelley—all the literature a lady wouldn’t be caught dead reading.
The gardens are his favorite spot to show you; pity that the flowers hold nothing to your beauty.
Herman
Now, Herman is the complete opposite of Edgar. His approach to his betrothed is stiff and unromantic, but overwhelmingly respectful. He doesn’t touch you intentionally in any way, stiffly introducing you to his friends and showing you around the rooms. 
It's only when you get to the cricket pitch that another side of him is shown, a more passionate and social Herman, eager to impress you with his athletic skill. You watch one of the Green House’s practices that day and watch as he absolutely blows away his competition.
Herman is probably the most reserved out of the boys, but I’ll argue he’d make the best eventual husband because of his desire to be enough for you. To earn your adoration. 
Lawrence 
Lawrence is quite shy regarding every aspect of your relationship, but especially shy while letting you into parts of his world. If he could have it his way, the two of you would be spending all your visit in the library, quietly reading on separate sofas. You’ll have to push him a bit if you want to meet some of his friends or teachers.
He shows you around the school almost like a professional guide, pointing out the historical and architectural significance of Weston itself. 
He makes promises to you quietly, in a tender moment, that once he graduates, he’ll take care of you. Marriage is a rigid structure for him, with defined expectations, and Lawrence plans on meeting every single one of them.
Gregory
Possibly the most relaxed out of the prefects at the notion of your visit, Gregory doesn’t do much to prepare himself or even tell his dorm of your existence. This goes about as well as you think it would, and after quelling a small panic amongst the boys, he shows you around the dreary halls of Purple House.
He doesn’t care much to show you off or introduce you to the other students, much preferring to talk about the various paintings that hang throughout the school. He sketches you absentmindedly as the day goes on, filling several pages of his sketchbook with you in various perspectives. He appreciates the quiet, less frequented parts of the school in these moments, where he can speak freely to you.
Gregory does miss you when you leave, but he holds on to the mementos you left for him in the courting process. Buttons, locks of hair, and monogrammed handkerchiefs… ephemera that holds on to the lingering memories of the one he’ll spend his life with.

I just thought about something. Amelie once said Felix and Adrien tricked Gabriel and Emilie for a whole weekend. I wonder, did The Agrestes agree to let Felix stay over for a while or do you think Adrien might have had to suffer a night with Colt?
For the longest time I thought that happened on the Graham de Vanily estate, while they were all trapped together for the holidays or something similar — but we’ve learnt from Werepapas that couldn’t have been the case!
For Adrien’s sake, I hope it happened while Felix/the Fathoms were staying in Paris and that he wasn’t trapped alone with Colt for an entire weekend, but that’s definitely a possibility. I’ve seen a few different posts theorising that this particular weekend is why Adrien appeared to be so afraid of Marinette’s sheriff/cowboy sketch in Psycomedian… and I mean, just look at the way he flinches here (00:35-01:07):

He seems genuinely scared of Marinette in that instant, which otherwise never happens. So it stands to reason that the problem isn’t her, but this particular act — which is eerily similar to the way Colt is portrayed in Representation. I don’t think Colt actually walked around dressed like that, mind you, but the cousins may have been caricaturing him since they were very little. Of course, there’s always the possibility that Adrien simply witnessed Colt’s treatment of Felix, and that was enough to leave scars.
If that worst case scenario did happen, then Amelie’s retelling and forced laughter is a little weird? But we know this petulant exterior of hers is all an act. She was very likely trying to make Gabriel mad on purpose, and bringing back memories of how Colt laid his hands on his son would accomplish just that.
There’s also the possibility that while Felix tricked Gabriel and Emilie for an entire weekend, Colt found out about Adrien immediately — especially if he failed to follow amok orders — and didn’t do anything to him. Which would make for some insane Senticousins angst upon their reunion (of course Felix wouldn’t want Adrien to be hurt, but it would probably reinforce the idea that there’s something wrong with him).
It’s always a little hard to analyse Felix (the episode) due to the inconsistencies in characterisation compared to later seasons (I don’t mean this in a salty way at all — I simply think the writers hadn’t fully figured out what they wanted to do with Amelie and especially Felix then, and had to course-correct from S4 onward). But Adrien being collateral damage of Colt’s abuse, in one way or another, is very likely. Maybe he himself isn’t sure why he reacted the way he did…

Is Chilchuck's wife blonde? Analysis:
I've noticed a lot of the fandom doubts what Chilchuck's wife looks like and still thinks she's a blonde woman. Which is understandable, since it seems to be something Kui really likes to point out. But my theory is it's intentional, and more important than we think.

As I said, be clearly has a type for blonde woman. And Kui makes a point of this by continuing point it out in the World Guide side book. But why? It hardly seems relevant, after all it's only mentioned once in the manga during chapter 58.

Many fans assumed the first woman that succubus took the form of was his wife. Which is understandable. But that gets quickly thrown out the window when the next serval succubus that attack him all look completely different. But according to Marcille, they're all blonde. And she even asks if that was because of his wife. Which is why many people probably think she's blonde.

But Chilchuck gets upset when she asks. Now at first you assume it's just Chilchuck being embarrassed as always. But at this point he's talked about his family multiple times calmly. Especially after having such a serious talk about his wife just a few chapters earlier, why would he react so strongly again now?
Now let's put that aside for a second. Why does the fandom believe the woman with short black hair is his wife? Well simply because she shares multiple features with his daughters, who we actually do see and confirmed to be his daughters.

His oldest, Meijack, shares her more unique eye shape. And his middle, Flertom, her hair. They even have the same small piece of stray hair on the top of their heads. So it's highly unlikely this is a coincidence.

And according to this official colored sketch, neither of his children are blonde. So it's safe to assume his wife is in fact, not blonde. So then why is it talked about so much?
Well actually I think his "fetish" to say, along with the succubus is what drove his wife to leave him.

So before they encounter the succubus, Chilchuck freaks out when he realizes what attacks them. Which isn't out of character for him, but he's very specific with what he said. It's clear he really, REALLY doesn't like the succubus. Even Marcille comments about how it seems he's seen one before.
Now we do know due to a side comic that a party tried to feed him to a succubi group. Which could explain why he's so scared, but he never actually sees any of them. He runs away before they even find them. (I'd provide evidence but I've reached my limit on photos and I don't feel like making multiple posts lol.)
So why does he know so much about how they work then?
Here's my theory:
He actually DID run into a group of succubus a long time ago with another party. The same party that actually knew and ended up meeting his wife. Blonde woman like we saw attacked him, and the party already knowing about his wife assumed; oh! That must be what if wife looks like of course! Eventually down the road the party meet her. Only to be surprised that she looked absolutely nothing like his fantasy they saw. So of course through drunken fun, the party brings this up. More to make fun of him if anything. I'd assume him and his wife were already having problems up to this point. Maybe she had doubts of him being disloyal since he was always away. Or maybe doubts that he didn't loved her anymore, or even no longer found her attractive or desirable still. So hearing that a creature that supposedly transformed into the thing your heart wants the most, and it's the complete opposite of her confirmed whatever insecurity she had in her mind. That maybe the woman they turned into was even his mistress herself?! Knowing Chilchuck, he probably didn't try to comfort her or at least did it very well. Or maybe not even try to talk about it after at all and instead just tried to blow it off. Which only made things worse. And that pushed her to finally leave. Her final straw possibly.
However this is purely speculation of course. A theory based on the extremely limited knowledge we have of that night and their marriage in general.

isat spoilers afoot
what i especially like about the way adrienne wrote mira's orientation is the lack of room for interpretation. yes they snuck aroace talk into fantasy france, but just stop and think for a minute. what would happen if mira just said "i'm aroace" or "i don't feel love the same way" instead of all the nuance we got to her character in the friend quest convo?
we know she's sex repulsed, we know she's romance repulsed. we know she loves fiction that has those things in it, loves interpreting fictional characters that way, but can't bare to see herself in that situation. it makes a lot of sense with regards to her location (vaugarde, a very sex-positive and romance-adamant country) and also with regards to herself (the way she feels about her environment). Of course she wouldn't blame other folk around her for engaging with their religion the "correct" way, of course she'd internalize all her feelings of being outcast and turn it back on herself.
The fandom respects this! Nobody ships her romantically, or sexually, because we know she's not into that. We know she would never and i know a bunch of people who would punch you for even thinking it!
Now what if Adrienne hadn't put this in the game? What if they had just said on their tumblr one day, "mira's aroace," or something. where would we be now? aspec shipping discourse would definitely take the reins. we'd have people shipping her in all kinds of different ways, bending the aroace character to the best of their ability because they could still be into sex, or romance, or whatever. this is TRUE, it's POSSIBLE, but there's no nuance. We wouldn't know the way Mira really feels about these things unless Adrienne told us, so a lot of people would either ignore/"work around" her identity or just wouldn't even know about it to begin with!
Introducing mira's orientation in the way adrienne did leaves no room for discourse. we know if she's sex-positive, sex-negative, how she reacted to finding out she was, etc. It provides so much more representation than a simple "I'm aroace" ever could. It's such a wide label, so finally having CONCRETE information about a canonical aroace's experiences with their orientation is so, so freeing and honestly quite refreshing. and it's worked into the story seamlessly!!!
She's not an emotionless carcass with no capacity for love, she's not outwardly detesting sex or romance at every possible moment, she's simply a well-rounded character who happens to be aroace. You have time to warm up to her before ever even finding out about her orientation! Or having any clue at all (barring maybe the suspicious sketches)!!!!! Aroace people are real!!! We're so real!!!!
Speaking of the suspicious sketches! We know siffrin's alloace (from, like, one line of dialogue), but we don't know if he's sex-repulsed. Adrienne's gone on record to say "aces can still have sex" in reference to siffrin, so I'm inclined to believe he has at least some sort of libido.
When looking at the sketches, both him and mira have a repulsed reaction. I think there are three possible reasons for Siffrin here!
Siffrin is sex-repulsed and has a visceral reaction to them because he thinks it's gross.
Siffrin has no libido because the stress overrides everything in his system. That combined with his ace identity would probably lead to a distaste for the papers.
Some people would NOT GET THE MEMO from the act 3 friendquest. Sometimes when you're writing you have to account for the gamers being really really dense. Some people didn't even understand the Isa friendquest was him coming out as trans basically. Since Ace characters are hard to "prove" unless they explicitly state they dislike sex, this line of dialogue might've just been there to drill it in that Siffrin is ace because the only other place we see that implication is one line in the friendquest. It could even have no tie to his relationship with sex, who knows?
one of these options is not like the others! /silly
I couldn't tell you which one of those it is, but i think at least one of them had to have hit the mark. It's a lot harder to decode siffrin's sexuality when we only get like 5 lines of dialogue total that vaguely even reference it
With this we come back to the issue from earlier: He could be demi, he could be ace, he could be sex-repulsed, he could not! Most people write them sex-repulsed and I'm personally on that bandwagon, but interpreting them a different way isn't any less correct unless you completely ignore the fact they're ace in the first place.
Even sex-positive aces have complicated relationships with sex. Some do it for the gratification, some simply have higher libido and can't think of a different way to get it out, and others only do it to please their partner.
I think writing an ace character as sex-positive should be seen as a character study instead of an excuse to ship two characters together. Is this character the type to even enjoy it in the first place? How often? How do they interact with it? Etc. Which I think is what Adrienne was talking about when she said "aces can still have sex." We don't know about siffrin's identity, we don't have a grasp on the nuance, but we do know he's ace and that he experiences love differently from the way mirabelle does, and the way isabeau does, and the way odile does, and what have you.
I love love love the representation we get in isat. An aroace, an alloace, and someone that a lot of fans headcanon as aroallo though it's unconfirmed. Even if Odile's not aro, we still get that line of dialogue about not finding romance suitable for her at the moment, which speaks true to a different experience altogether. No two characters experience love, experience life the same in isat. That's why i get to make a tumblr text post that's a bit too long exploring the different avenues adrienne took when writing the characters lol :')

Some new-old sketches you've never seen! Well, you've probably already seen these drawings... as linearts, or even completed... by someone else! They're from sketches we created ;)
(Basically there was a "sketch orphanage" in the Green-With-Envy server, where it was possible to leave those unfinished drawings that we couldn't, maybe because we didn't have time, or because we already had too many linearts to submit and we went over the limit, complete, so that someone else could line them and submit them. The result is that this year a lot of the colorable linearts are ours, thanks to the efforts of cool artists who made the lines! It's beautiful, we are seeing a lot of our colored stuff, it's a bit of an artist's dream.)
1. Vlad and... Vlad, but with a crown on his head. 
A while back we started creating our own Vlad, gradually separating him more from the original one (he's now the villain of the Danny Runner series), starting from a "what if?". In this case, the difference was that one of them put on the crown and ring when he finally got them, resulting in him becoming the Monarch of the Ghost Zone... and a real bad guy, one of those who do gloriously despicable things, because of the influence of these ancient artifacts.
In this sketch, we wanted to have Vlad Monarch meet "normal" Vlad. Imagine them at a ball. And imagine that the Monarch has just told Vlad that he has killed almost all the Fentons, except one, but only because he has yet to catch him. Now you'll understand the expression on "normal" Vlad's face.
2. Vlad and Gengar
There's not much to say, except that it was a time when we were really obsessed with Pokémon and Gengar in particular. There are some parallels between Gengar and Plasmius, but we won't explain them here... you can imagine them by yourselves. We just made a sketch. Aren't they cute?
3. Skulktech
Skulker x Technus will never stop being fun... not only because these two guys have such distant personalities, one tied to nature, hunting, the brutality of the wild world, and the other a genius who fights using machines, but also because... well... look at them. One is a ten-foot-tall retro-futuristic guy and the other is a tiny bald blob. They are beautiful.
4. Monarch Danny
We've done Monarch Vlad over and over again. It's our thing... but just one (1) time we wanted to try Danny with the ring and crown. And here he is, our (evil, of course) version of Ghost King Danny. Complete, of course, with a tall evil collar and a flowing evil cape. (Maybe we love 90s villain designs a little too much, hmm....)

Imagine an accidental meetup with Kaveh In the tavern while he’s drunk
A/N: Not proofread, God I haven't written in so long law school is hard but I do wanna write something for all my fav charas for October. Only fluff No Tw maybe like mention of booze?? but not really.
Kaveh who is once again shit drunk in the tavern. Something about a client and their unreasonable demands and lack of creative freedom he had for this job.
Kaveh who tried to order another drink, slurring barely even able to get the words out “One more Boss!”, his manuscripts and sketches strewn about all over the table, truly what a pathetic sight he must be right now!
Kaveh who is then told he can’t have any more his tab is already too high for tonight, but he doesn’t have any money left that damn Alhaitham took it all saying it was rent for this month. He hates that bastard always egging him on!!
Kaveh who suddenly hears someone say from behind him as he’s in his squabble with the tavern owner, “I’ll cover his tab for tonight.” He turns around expecting it to be Alhaitham or one of his other friends. “I’m really not in the mood for a lecture right now just cut me some slack, ok? I’ve had a tough day Just let me drink some more!”
Kaveh who then sees you instead standing there with a little smile on his face. He feels embarrassed, his face getting red “Uh I thought you we-re someone …else, I’m soh so-rry for lash-ing …out.” Oh god he’s still slurring his words how embarrassing. How could he let a you pay his tab god did he look so pathetic right now that even strangers were taking pity on him??
Kaveh who sees you had some money to the owner. Then turning around maybe because you read the expression he has on his face you say to him, (your voice sounds so sweet and nice?) “Hey, don’t worry about it ok? But if you want you can take me out for coffee someday in return?”
Kaveh who is dumbstruck he’s never had a girl hit on him like this before?? He is probably blushing even more now, and he can see a small smile forming on your face too, waiting for his reply.
Kaveh who then gets walked back (well walking was probably an overstatement he was tripping) to his house with your help, you both talking along the way, giggling. You told him how much you admired his designs, and it struck him how genuine and amazing you seemed. As you both reached his (fine Alhaitham’s) house, he thanks you for dropping him and honestly everything tonight. You both smile and say goodbyes and, and you turn starting to leave.
Kaveh who mustering up some courage, calls out to you, “Coffee sounds good, Tuesday 5pm it’s a date?”. You turn around your face a mixture of bewildered and flushed, holding back a giggle, “It’s a date then.”
Archons he was still slurring when he said that wasn’t he.

Last year I discovered @vorpaldoodles's Inktober/Journeytober prompts halfway through October and I decided that I wanted to go back and do the first half that I missed.
This is a project I've been working on on and off for the past couple of months and because I wasn't on a time limit I wanted to try and challenge myself in different ways and I definitely did that! Very glad I did it but also very glad it's done! 😅

Below the cut is a bit more detail on each prompt.
Day 1 - Tree I'm really pleased with how this one turned out, I think the sketch and the line weight of the ink is really good. I'm forever trying to figure out the right medium for colouring and I was determined to give pencils another go. I really tried to do it "properly" doing layer after layer to get it looking right. The leaves I think I nailed but I definitely lost steam by the time I got to the hill 😅 but overall I'm still very happy with it
Day 2 - Ghost So one ambition I had for completing this challenge was to try and do less straight up screenshot redraws and while this is still technically a redraw I definitely put a lot of effort into changing it up! I looked at so many screenshots and artwork of LBD's little ghost things but in the end two pieces of art really helped me figure it out. The first is this amazing work by wurmje and the second is this work I found on Pinterest that I unfortunately couldn't find the original post for. I honestly don't know how wurmje got those smoke trails on the skulls looking so good - experience, practice and talent probably! - but even after staring at smoke trail vectors on Pinterest this was still my best attempt 😅
Day 3 - Fruit I had an epiphany when I was brainstorming ideas for the remaining prompts and that was that there was nothing stopping me from taking inspiration from my own fanfics. So, this basket of fruit is reminiscent of the one Wukong gave to Wǎn'ér the last time he saw her in Until the End. His inclination to peaches means that they always end up being the most prevalent fruit. Generally, the more he likes you, the more peaches he'll give you. But he put together this basket about two dozen times trying to put together the best possible combination for Wǎn'ér's health and enjoyment and the amount of peaches was a critical consideration. At several points it was just a basket full of (non-immortal) peaches. I was experimenting with the line weight to indicate shadows but I was always messing about with new liners so it's maybe not quite as tidy as I would like and also I don't know actually know how the shadows would work here but I gave it a good shot!
Day 4 - Bear Meet (Zǒu Xíng) Shí Xióng, the (Misshapen) Stone Bear, Nǚwā's assistant and one of her failed attempts to create MK - you can find out more about him here. Bear Ref I used was this.
Day 5 - Lotus Who else was it going to be? I struggled with this one a lot - I wanted to try my hand at a non Lego body type and I really struggled with the face, especially the eyes. I must have looked at hundreds of different LMK artists to see how they drew their versions of characters and I honestly still don't know how they make them look so good (I mean, I do - it's practice but you know what I mean). But overall I think it was a decent attempt! I really tried to make the line weight a bit dynamic but honestly I really like how I messed up his wheel and just went ham - maybe a style to really commit to another time!
Day 6 - Cycle Get it? It's a motorcycle? Sorry 😅 People that draw machines are built different. People that can ink circles though? God like ability. You should have seen me sweating putting pen to those wheels and then I messed up the back one so badly I just coloured the whole thing in (it was still a bit off so I also cut out some paper to try and fix it a little). I accidentally missed out some little bits by not getting the proportions quite right but I don't think you can really tell so I'm calling it a success!
Day 7 - Scripture So my initial plan for this was to have Tang crying over some scrolls but I was trying to demand something of myself I just didn't have the skills for yet, positioning a character I didn't have a reference for, and it was just getting frustrating so instead I pivoted to trying to do backgrounds and using line weight to show distance from the viewer. Overall I think I did ok but the pillars were impossible to get straight 😖
Day 8 - Legacy I had a much more ambitious idea for this one but it was turning out to be more frustrating than challenging and I was getting grumpy so I changed tact and did something simpler!
Day 9 - Wound/Scar My initial plan was to do a couple different characters from my fics and focus on one of their most significant scars but I really want to try and explore other styles and since this was going to be a straightforward prompt (i.e. not fully body drawings) this felt like a good opportunity to experiment a little! So I did some little studies of some very talented fan artists work trying to understand how they put faces together and make them look good! Day 10 - Spider I've written some more about this scene here but basically this is pre-working for Spider Queen and she's got her eyes on Syntax. Pretty happy with how this turned out! I'm not the best at blending different coloured pencils together but I think it looks pretty good! It is pretty obvious that the yellow was a higher quality pencil tho 😅 I also managed to preserve those white lines in his hair so it doesn't look like on big mass.
Day 11 - Creation I did think about doing someone with Nǚwā and her stone carvings but Red Son's little flame sprite from Season 5 just really grew on me the more I looked at it. Decided to have a bit of fun with it and do a little fakemon evolution for it, I actually did a digital version first (add link) before putting pen to paper. Also decided to give the glitter gel pen ago and honestly apart from the fact the glitter sometimes clogs up the ballpoint it was actually pretty nice to work with. But it also does NOT dry as fast which I didn't enjoy accidentally discovering 😤
Day 12 - Underworld So this is another example of me drawing inspiration from my fics. In my Monkey Talk Series, the Red-Bottomed Horse Monkey is the celestial primate of the "underworld" - predating the Ten Kings by eons. She's held many a soul in her life time. You can read more about her here and this is the ref I used. Did a digital version of this one too! Continued to try using the gel pen and found it's more forgiving than traditional liners when it comes to hand shakiness, I'm not sure it layers quite as nicely though!
Day 13 - Pagoda The colours for the 100-Eyed Demon were just so ahem eye-catching and I thought I could maybe do something fun with it. I was messing around with various pencils and pens but the bleeding on some of the pens was really annoying me and so this somehow became a bit of a paper craft project with at least 5 layers and 17 different cut out shapes! Very finicky but I actually did enjoy it! And got to experiment with some pencil techniques so overall I'm happy with it!
Day 14 - Lunar Cutting out paper with a craft knife? Way, way more difficult than it has any right to be. Also, I kid you not, as soon as I was done my brother came through and was like "Oh, yeah, I've got a craft knife specifically for cutting out curves." RIP me, I guess. But I think I did alright regardless! I was half tempted to add some craters to the moon but I was too scared of ruining it.
Day 15 - Mercy I struggled coming up with what to draw for this one but eventually I remembered that Sandy exists and how he very pointedly spares Huntsman! But I wanted to give myself a bit of extra challenge and so tried to draw his hand a bit more realistically. If you're wondering why he's missing part of a finger that's because I used a picture of my dad's hand as a reference, who due to crane related incidents, is down half a finger. But I could believe Huntsman lost a finger in his life - I had thought to add some scars but I forgot. But yeah, overall happy with this one!
Overall, I'm pretty proud of myself! Even if a drawing didn't turn out quite like I'd hoped I can still find something I like about it and almost everyone had it's own unique challenge that I gave my best shot! Thanks again to vorpaldoodles for the prompts!

My Dr. Sozonius LORE Headcanons
✨Warning this is a bit long✨
Sozo is a character that has lived for a very long time. Whatever that mushroom was on their head not only influenced Sozo but kept them immortal. We know really nothing bout Sozos past so I made some headcanons for silly fun and for me to visualize who Sozo was and what his life may have looked like. I want to do my best to keep this as game accurate as possible, so there will be quotes from the game. The quotes are not at all in order! I kinda just bring up random Sozo quotes as I go. Also I apologize if this doesn't make sense or if I ramble (I get excited about certain topics)

And so we start:
Sozonius was born in the days of the old faith. He was present the day the Bishops declared the genocide of the lambs and he actually played a big part in assisting the lambs survival. However, he almost got caught and had to stop helping the lambs to keep his family safe. He's never seen any of the bishops(maybe) but his village was part of Darkwood and therefore under Bishop Leshy’s ruling.
VILLAGE 
Sozonius village was mostly a colony of Carpenter Ants, there were a few other species living there too but it was mostly Carpenter Ants. I imagine there are different races of ants depending on the region they’re in; so there could be fire ants, pharaoh ants, and more! Most ants get along nicely and work together but sometimes other races of ants can be more temperamental and cause conflict between colonies. Carpenter ants are a more calm type of ants, they aren't aggressive but they are incredibly strong. Carpenters ants are known to live in trees; they hollow out trees to make their homes and they like to stay off the ground as much as possible in case of floods and other dangers.
In the colony they had their ruler, the “Queen,” who looked over the village and did queenly business (not gonna go too deep into it). Everyone had many different jobs, ants are hard workers and very strong. They made marvelous structures, farmed a lot of crops, and knew how to work together when there was a threat. Sozo’s village was one that many others would try making deals/trades with. I would talk more about his village but that's not why y’all are here lol. 
Sozonius was a fellow damn near everyone in the village knew. He loved his work and he loved to talk about it to anyone that expressed that they wanted to listen. He was that guy that you could get stuck in a conversation with and struggle to end it. He liked to ramble about his work and kids. Other than that though he never really started conversations with others, he would keep to himself unless someone interacted with him.
And I could definitely see him having a science rival but nothing too bad lol.
FAMILY
“Where am I…? Where is… my family…?”  are the words Sozo says when he turns back into Dr. Sozonius. I like to think he had a wife and two children. They didn’t have the best marriage but they made it work out for their two sons. His wife was a bit stubborn and very honest. She would say things before thinking which did cause issues, but Sozonius let it slide because he loved her so much and wanted a happy family for his sons. 
Sozonius was a very funny dude. He made dad jokes all the damn time, his family would pretend to hate the jokes but in reality they did love them. 
Sozo Dialogue “Now all Sozo can think about is mushrooms, mushrooms, MUSHROOMS… They don’t leave mush-room for anything else! Ha!”
(Also, this next idea is inspired off of @kuphulwho headcanons for Sozo. I loved her ideas and I recommend y'all look at her headcanons too!) Aside from Sozonius being a mycologist he had a side hobby of art! He wasn't the best artist, but he was really talented with sketching plants/fungi, he liked to make art of anything that interested him. He most likely wrote an educational picture book about Fungi, there's probably an old copy of it somewhere.
This art hobby caught the interest of his two sons, and they also started to pursue art. Sozonius would take his free time teaching his sons how to draw plants and such. Sozonius would hang his kids' art everywhere in their house, it was like walking into an art museum haha.
JOB
Sozonius studied mycology which means he studied fungi. Sozonius knew fungi could benefit his society and he wanted to help educate others about the importance of fungi. Soon he learned enough of a new discovery of mushroom people, neither plant nor animal…Sozonius then made the decision to go on a solo mission to study the Mushroomo people.
THE MUSHROOMOS 
Dr. Sozonius Dialogue “My name is Dr. Sozonius. I was researching the Mushroomos that live in Spore Grotto… strange creatures, Neither animal nor plant…” 
Sozonius went to Spore Grotto and at first, he studied the Mushroomo people from a distance setting up a campsite near the Mushroomo Village. When the Mushroomo people discovered Sozonius they welcomed him into their home, cheerful happy little things. Sozonius was given the chance to learn more about these strange creatures up close! How could he say no? Sozonius was welcomed into Spore Grotto and was treated like a god. 
Sozonius asked the Mushroomos many questions, but getting any actual answers from them was difficult. The Mushroomos treated Sozonius like he was their most special guest, they danced and sang for Sozonius. They would mimic Sozonius and follow him around, making sure to do anything he asked of them. There would be many times when the Mushroomos would offer to feed Sozonius menticide mushrooms but Sozonius knew a lot about fungi and declined their offers. However, there seemed to be a special Ritual the Mushroomos took part in… 
Sozonius had been in Spore Grotto for many weeks now, it was time for him to leave, he had studied enough and was ready to return home but the Mushroomos were surprisingly sad when he announced this. They wanted to show Sozonius a sacred ritual to them before he left, he wasn't aware of the menticide mushrooms being part of it…
Dr. Sozonius Dialogue “They gave me Menticide Mushrooms, and then… that’s the last thing I remember…”
After Sozonius was tricked into eating menticide mushrooms and also gave Sozonius a crown, a crown that would grow into Sozoniuss mind, he shall be the Mushroomos leader… And the new Sozo was made. (literally just think of Ice Age 2 when the lil sloths take Sid to be their fire king, however they don't sacrifice him)
The mushroom on Sozos head is very powerful, it makes me wonder what it is exactly, it gives the person wearing it immortality, but also causes the user to go insane (don't forget that Sozo is also being fed menticide mushrooms) the mushroom crown kinda reminds me of Chemachs crown. It seems to have a mind of its own and a face. I feel like the Mushroomos for days straight made sure to give Sozo a diet of only menticide mushrooms to make him forget everything and to possibly power the mushroom crown. They would constantly tell Sozo that his mind would be open and free, that it would make him feel better, and Sozo being under the influence of the mushroom listened to them.
A Mushroomo Dialogue "Once you taste the Menticide Mushroom your mind will be opened." 
As the years went by so did all the sanity Sozonius had left, but in some moments Sozonius seems to still be aware but not all there. 
Sozo Dialogue “Sozo had friends... Followers... family... now Sozo has mushrooms..."
Sozo over time seems to start to dislike his followers and call them liars. He even becomes quite cruel to his followers. Yet he also mentions that he trusts the lamb and wants the lamb to protect him from his followers which makes me believe that Sozonius is somehow a little aware and fighting against the mushroom crown’s influence. He is mad at the Mushroomos for lying to him, tricking him, making him into who he is now.
 Sozo Dialogue  “No need to thanks Sozo. Build it at your Cult then come back to me. Sozo shall grant you one last gift. Sozo is always fair. Always repays this debts. Not like those LIARS out there."
"You did it! Now I know I can trust you... not like those nasty liars outside. They are always watching, always listening! Here take this. You are Sozo's best friend, you are Sozo's only friend."
"Sozo can trust you now, Sozo will pledge himself to you! You will protect me from those liars outside and bring Sozo mushrooms!"
(Also a side note that my gf brought to my attention last second lol! Apparently parasitic mushrooms rely on insects to spread. That is probably why they tricked Sozonius into staying and eating menticide mushrooms. Maybe it's been that long since they've seen an insect)
SOZOS IMPRISONMENT
So, this next little headcanon of mine is an interesting one and might be confusing to explain. Was Sozonius imprisoned within his own mind while under the control of the mushroom crown? If he was, I can see him being stuck in a sort of loop, imagining his family and friends. Think like Mabel's Bubble from ‘Gravity Falls’ weirdmageddon. Sozonius is trapped in a mental bubble, stuck in a false reality as the now mushroom-infected Sozo takes over his body and actions. 
In Sozonius’s mental bubble he is in a place where trees are big, tall mushrooms and flowers are mushrooms, everywhere he turns its mushrooms. He knows something is wrong, everything is too strange, everyone he loves is there with him but is it real? It feels like he's living in a dream. Sozonius proceeds to talk to his friends and family as if they are actually there in which I noticed that Sozo will talk to the menticide mushrooms as if they are actual people.
Sozo Dialogue “Precious, perfect little mushrooms, Sozo is here now, Sozo will always be here…”
”Sozo is busy now… Sozo must commune with the ‘shrooms.”
As time passes more mushrooms grow in his mind prison, and they keep growing and growing until they start to grow on the people he loves. He knows something is happening, he's going mad, and he starts to search for an exit, he needs to escape this false reality that the mushroom crown has created for him. 
He starts fighting the mushroom crown’s hold on him which causes him to regain some awareness. This is when a part of him realizes he’s been tricked, and he starts refusing everything the Mushroomos give him and becomes cruel to them. However, the lambs have never done him wrong before and the lamb (from the cult) begins to be the only person he can trust. At least until it becomes too much and well… we know Sozo’s fate.
SOZO’S REVIVAL 
So Sozo doesn't get resurrected until all the bishops become mortal (at least in my playthrough)(I might change this to he was part of the cult before the bishops I’m not sure). So all the bishop siblings are in the cult and learning the ways of mortal stuff and Sozo appears around the same time, still the crazy Sozo we know and love. However, he’s still very addicted to the menticide mushrooms and both the Lamb and night workers have found Sozo digging through the mushroom crops like a lil racoon.
Based on the game, Sozo likes to run around the cult and do his own thing; he often looks very spaced out but the moment someone talks to him he starts spitting nonsense before yelling at them to go away. The only people Sozo will talk to are people that give Sozo what he wants, which is menticide mushrooms! If you do that for him he will talk your ear off with nonsense, in conversations with him he will often talk about his followers, them being liars and disgusting little creatures. One day though Sozo’s personality seems to change? He starts to tell the lamb,
 “Sozo was just here, all alone, thinking about mushrooms... Uh, Sozo means Sozo's little Mushroomo followers!”
”Yes,, they must be so lost without Sozo. They love Sozo! Everyone loves Sozo - especially Lamb!”
“Without their great and beloved Sozo, Mushroomos must be so scared... YOU! You must save them! Save them and bring them to Sozo.”
”They will be trapped in Anura. They are always getting captured when they don't have their great Sozo to protect them. Rescue them and bring them to me.”
But when you bring the followers to Sozo he ends up eating them. At first glance you can assume it's just his addiction, in which it most certainly could be! He sees a big mushroom and he's like oooo~ delicious but there's also a possibility of this being Dr. Sozonius’s anger coming out. The whole fighting against the mushroom crown’s influence and realization that he’s been tricked. Maybe a mix of his addiction and anger for what they did to him? I’m not too sure if Sozo eating the Mushroomos was a problem before he joined the cult.
Of course, this addiction must be stopped so the lamb decides enough is enough and refuses to get more Mushroomos. This causes Sozo to dissent and, with little choice, the Lamb has to put him in rehab. I imagine it would’ve been a struggle getting Sozo to the prison without the Red Crown’s help. With the power of an ant that is Sozo’s size it's a miracle he didnt break that pillory while he was in it. Sozo just stayed silent and didn't fight; the person he had put his trust and hope in has imprisoned him. Sozo is a bit depressed at that moment. 
After Sozo has been re-educated, released, and cured of his addiction the mushroom crown finally falls off his head. Which, like I said before, makes me wonder, was it being powered by the menticide mushrooms Sozo has been eating or is it something else?
But Dr. Sozonius talks about some stuff before saying,
Dr. Sozonius Dialogue “I can’t help but feel that I have you to thank for… something. You have my loyalty, I will remain here and serve you. Please, take this!”
Sozonius was ready to live his life rather than reunite with his family in the afterlife. He wasn't expecting to be resurrected after dying in the cult from old age. But Sozonius gave the lamb their loyalty and promised to stay in the cult and serve them. The Lamb had been so kind as to give Sozonius an immortality necklace, the Lamb didn’t want Sozonius to go yet… and Sozo’s heart was too kind and soft. He will have to wait a bit longer to return home to his family, but maybe some good things will come out of staying longer~

“Well, yeah. We’re playing Cosmos in a few days, but we’re leaving now to watch the finals. Sean’s got us some tickets since he knows someone there, but there’s an extra one that no one has claimed. Aaaand you have a few days off before you have to face Technicali sooo…how about it?”
“Mmmm…Grrr, fine! I’ll go to your stupid car racing tournament, whatever it is!…Thanks for thinking of me.”
“You’re welcome, Skarra.”

Showing off a bit of Trent’s and Skarra’s relationship, and how basically Trent just adopted Skarra the moment they met.
I’d say their first official meeting had to be when the team met the Power Twins’ older brother, Liam. Liam is part of a private gentlemen’s group that belongs to the football club of the same name. They’re basically a second family to Liam, and they wanted to make sure the twins were okay after they had a bad run in with their dad.
Skarra being Skarra basically goes off on Trent and Oliver, trying to talk bad about their group, and all Trent does is whisper to Oliver, “He’s gonna be my little bro now.” Like a small barking dog getting adopted by a much larger calm dog.
And now that the team has finally re-joined the Super League, Trent is always playfully teasing Skarra and what not, but he does care for him, liking the fact he’s not afraid to speak his mind around them. He hasn’t pushed Skarra to get personal with him, but maybe after some time, Skarra might feel safe in opening up to him, and possibly the other Silver Lions too.
I probably should be doing all the interactions with Trent in one post, but I was happy to get this done before I left for work (halfway there baby, let’s go), so I wanted to show it off now. I would have to fix some anatomy here and there but it looks pretty good. Next one should be one with Dingaan, but I’ll make sure to sketch the other people I mentioned in my last post as well.

So some more sketches from my AU, from yesterday and this morning
On the left, we have Elita and my constant struggle with her, as always. You know the drill. I had to write "stop it" so I'd give up this endeavor for now and move on. I think that's when I switched over to drawing the Megatron ref yesterday
I wonder if maybe giving her a full body design would help me? Because I mean, Optimus and Megatron started out with those, even if I only use the top half. And I'm convinced I draw her proportions wrong anyways
But other than that, you can see I'm thinking of moving her cones to her top horns instead of her side. I like them on the side, but I think they're part of the thing holding me back, along with potentially her glasses
I spent my shift on Monday drawing various Elita head designs I found to see if I could find anything that could stick. I'm too lazy to take a picture of it right this second, but it's probably why I was trying to give her another shot in her design
But moving on, I also tried drawing Blackarachnia, since I was reminded recently that Sentinel is supposed to be associated with the spider ladies, and because a thing I gave one of my Elita designs I thought would look good on a spider character, namely the side triangle things
I kind of like the design I gave her, but I do also wonder if I'm just sticking to the first thing I thought of. I don't think it's bad though. I would like her head to be more trapezoid though
But her colors on the other hand definitely need some work, because I was not sure what to do with them. I knew I wanted to incorporate black and gold, mostly because I love her Beast Wars design the most, at least color wise, but I also thought it'd be good to incorporate the purples and reds too. And then I was just trying to move colors around until I got something that actually looked cohesive together. But I don't know if I like it this way. I think one thing I want is for her to have gold eyes and a darker "skin" tone, but I didn't know how to incorporate it
She's probably going to need more time to cook
As for her role in the story? I really don't know, other than being connected to Sentinel
When I made this, my mental thought was that she was Sentinel's complicated love interest. But that wasn't my initial idea, and she's supposed to have some connection with his old partner. I don't know if I want to keep the TFA idea of BA having once been his partner, thought dead but is actually still alive, but I also don't want to keep the initial idea that she ate his old partner, because why would he ever be interested in her after that?
And there was also me thinking on what Airachnid and Blackarachnia should be in this story, particularly with their differences between each other, like how Airachnid is a fully techno bot that just looks spider-like in her robot form, while Blackarachnia is a techno-organic who turns into a full-on spider. So I feel like if I were to make both connected to Sentinel's lost partner, Airachnid would make more sense as the one eaten, and Blackarachnia the one who ate her, since she's the more animalistic one. But that doesn't really jive with how Airachnid is usually the eviler of the two
I'm really not sure what I want to do with the spider ladies, I think they need more time in the oven lore wise as well. And I need to figure out if I want both or not. And who Sentinel's dead partner was, because I also had the idea of them being built alongside Sentinel, being more like a sibling, but dying soon after, possibly due to malfunctions in their systems. But I'm not sure about that, leaves little room for the spiders
But moving on from them, we also have Kiloton, who honestly I half feel like slightly altering the name of. Like my brain sometimes corrects it to Kilotron, which I like a bit more but I'm also aware is even closer to Megatron's name
I tried to give him a design here, and I don't think it's horrible, though maybe it needs a bit more work. Granted, I am working with very little when it comes to his design, given how basic the original Kiloton is, but oh well
I was going to give him his silver/grey, but it didn't look right with all his other colors, so I changed it to that sort of brassy color. I think I like it a lot more
But it was with him that I realized I probably need to adhere a bit closer to the Mega Man style, because I am simplifying it more than I need to, at least anatomy wise, and it could look a lot better if I did
Will I change? I don't really know, because I'm lazy and I like how I'm drawing them now. But maybe I should practice Mega Man characters too to get a feel for this style I'm trying to evoke. Well, I say style, I more mean the designs and robot things rather than things like how the face is drawn or stuff like that
But anyways, I do have more on Kiloton than I do Blackarachnia, but I don't really have all his essential details down
What I do know is that he and Megatron used to be a thing, though unfortunately Kiloton ended up dying. Details later
But they first met around the time Megatron first got infected. At that point, after whatever event caused him to get infected, he ended up wandering around the wastes of Cybertron, mangled from whatever battles he had been in, and with his processor on the fritz from the virus, until he eventually collapsed. Kiloton ended up finding him and nursing him back to health, as he only saw a damaged bot in need of help
I'm also thinking maybe Kiloton was the one to give Megatron his purple gem, or that when he had found him, his initial gem was broken, or whatever was in that place before it
Kiloton was the first bot Megatron met while infected, and so he never really felt the need to do violence onto this bot, which surprised him at the time. His time with Kiloton and the time after he had recovered was the start of his new life with a clear mind not clouded by violent thoughts, and it gave Kiloton a special significance to Megatron, even if Kiloton wasn't aware of this
It's the time after this that I don't really have the details on. I want to say that while Kiloton helps fight Decepticons, he's not necessarily part of the Autobot force, possibly some other independent party from them. And he's also a support bot as opposed to a field bot. I also don't know when he and Megatron went their separate ways or even if they did, and when their relationship turned romantic
And while I also don't know the circumstances, I do know that eventually, Kiloton died, and Megatron was the one who had to kill him. I'm not sure Kiloton got infected with the virus, he might have fought Megatron on his own terms, after something Megatron did despite his protests. I'm not sure, but Megatron was forced to kill him, and it weighs heavily on him
I also think that at this point in time, Optimus had feelings for Megatron, but didn't act on them because of his relationship with Kiloton, and it was only sometime after that they got together. Optimus was probably also the person to help Megatron deal with the death of Kiloton, as he took the event pretty hard, but I don't want to say Optimus used this as an opportunity to come in with his own romantic feelings, as I don't imagine Optimus would ever be that selfish. Megatron was his friend in need first, even if he had feelings for him at the time. I also don't know how long afterwards that they got together
I also think now with the addition of Kiloton, I may need to slightly tweak Optimus and Megatron's dynamic, because now Megatron had someone before Optimus. Also maybe Optimus needs some tragedy, because Megatron and Sentinel both have some while he doesn't really have any at this point
But yeah, those are the current updates to this AU. Not much solid, but some new things
Though if I'm being honest, I'm debating now how much people care for this AU. Maybe I'm being egotistical, but I don't know, I was kind of sad that my last two reference drawings for them have basically gotten no attention, and same with other more recent posts about it
It's making me think people are sick of this, particularly since AU ideas tend to die out with me, but like, this time I'm actually holding onto an idea, and I don't want it to die like all the rest. Do I just need to give it time and eventually people will come around, or are people genuinely sick of this and sick of me trying to do anything here, particularly with my bad looking designs and me butting in on things I have no real knowledge of? Okay now I’m really interested in seeing some Max X Michi content. <3 or some headcanon’s at least ;)
Now I definitely love you anonymous person who asked this💐
(forgive my ass lack of quick response).
Michi and Max's relationship is a committed one. At the beginning, they both decided to stay in each other's countries for a while to learn more about their traditions, ect and deepen their relationship. They also learned to speak each other's languages for better communication, although they are still improving on this.
They dont fight that often, just some arguments here and there like a normal couple, but never anything that would threaten the relationship. Maybe some things are said in the heat of the moment but its always forgiven.
Both are huge on communication, always a a call here a call there. Can't spend much time away from each other once they're back home, especially Max. But video calls are usually enough. Honestly it's like they cant get rid of eachother even if they tried.
Michi:
She loves skinship, and she always touching Max, above all hugs. She loves playing with his hair too.
She gives the most passionate kisses that knock the air out of his lungs. Let's say it is her favorite passtime when both of them are home and have nothing else better to do. And he still melts for it.
Michi is fucking smooth. She loves to get a reaction out of Max by seducing and making him blush (or challenging him and flirting with her back).
Loves cooking, especially if it's for Max. And she does it out of pure curiosity, so as soon as she learns a new recipe, she wants to cook for him (Speaking of cooking, they take turns sharing recipes and cooking for eachother).
Rarely ever gets jealous, but literally will not allow Max to be alone with certain people. And she gets irritated when someone gets handsy with him. Although she knows he can defend himself, she just defend him from time to time.
Will probably forget important birthdays and anniversaries. And when that happens she will be sad. But will casually make up for it with surprises and silent apologies.
Max:
Bro declared his love first (the others definitely didn't have to help him).
In the beginning he was snarky and somewhat cocky. He still is now. But he was trying to impress her. He really wanted to leave an impression and he of course succeeded.
Max can be the biggest softy ever. Then the next minute he can the cockiest shit ever. And theres no in-between.
Max thanks his lucky stars each night for Michi and that she still with him. This man is truly in love with her.
Max can say the cheeseist pick up lines ever and making her laugh. It's apart from his job, so of course he is so good at making women fall for him and Michi fall for it every time and he loves it. Most of the time he is giving her compliments in German.
He truly loves confidence. He thinks confidence is sexy. Either confidence in yourself or youre confident in something that you do he is drawn to that it attracts him. Confidence is key.
Like I said, Max loves talking Michi. Either in person, on the phone, texting, somehow he needs to know she is there. I feel like Max hasn't been in a long term relationship, so he wants to spend as much time as possible with her/listening to her.
He thinks Michi is too good for him, and he loves when she give him forehead kisses and play with his hair.
When it comes to Michi, he’s often chatty, talkative, and more open. He occasionally tells Michi about how his day went and asks her about hers then listens attentively while asking questions to keep she talking. He loves the way her expression lights out when she talks. He loves hearing the change of her tone whenever she feeling happy and seeing how her eyes sparkle at the same time. The only thought running in his mind is how he adores her so much and he will do anything to keep that smile on her face.

⚧Nimona LGBTQ+ specific headcanons of mine🏳‍🌈
• I've made a conclusion that if queer flags exist in Nimona universe, as well as gay drag bars (so was confirmed in the artbook), then labels DO exist. As well as good old homophobia??? I suppose????

• Nimona doesn't have a specific label because she thinks they are sorta restrictive. Also she just doesn't need one lol, if somebody asked her about her gender she'd say "Nimona"
• She'd wear the heck out of a "protect trans kids" shirt she bought no she ain't feeding into the capitalist machine she stole it
• There was something between Nimona and Gloreth but Nimona can't exactly say what for sure. Not exactly romantic but not strictly platonic. Homegirl had that toxic doomed kindergarten yuri going on😭
• Nimona doesn't look for romantic relationships. She explains it as "romance is for sappy dumb-dumbs" but in reality she just doesn't want to date and romantically love somebody who'll. Eventually die and leave her all by herself again yk (oh this got angsty real fast)
• Maybe one day Ballister tried to help her find her label (because he still tries to put things in boxes) and she just waved it off
Speaking of Ballister
• My man is transgender. Do I even have to explain. Read one of those posts that explain his transness better LMAO
• He started his medical transition as a teenager and had to fit right in not to disrupt the Institute's function. If he's a man then he has to transition QUICKLY so that others don't notice
• Because of that he's a transmedicalist and probably an enbyphobe at the start of the movie, thinking only one type of valid transness exists, and it's the one that is very binary and restrictive
• At the end he realizes the wrong of his ways and works on the internalized transphobia
• He came to terms with his homosexuality a bit easier. "It's always been boys" yk the drill
A couple of words about his boy lol
• Ambrosius is a painfully cisgender gay man. I genuinely apologize to all Transbrosius believers but he gives off STRONG cis vibes can't have a character with this surname dickless
• He's a trans ally but his opinions on trans issues were like. Very closed-minded. He supported but didn't entirely understand. Of course it changed as he went through ✨character development✨
• He was fully supportive of Ballister on his trans journey. Reassured him when Ballister felt like he wasn't enough, tried to make his boyfriend as secure as possible, loving every part of him
There should be a bunch of rather suggestive headcanons but this isn't that type of post LOL
No but think about Ambrosius kissing down Ballister's body and across his chest scars. This is my ultimate dream as a trans man
• Ambrosius also rocks a "protect trans kids" shirt that's for SURE
• He came to terms with his queerness as a teenager and had a whole crisis about it. As a Goldenloin he had the expectations of ✨continuing Gloreth's bloodline✨ thrown at him back in childhood so he sorta internalized that. Then boom, my boy is g a y and oh how gay he is!

• Ambrosius made inoffensive jokes about Ballister's transness. Like yk those goofy puns like "baby you put men in MENstruation", "omg does this make your parents transparent". • He also made sure Ballister took proper care of his body because you know Ballister would not bind safely, being a dumb teen

WIP Word Game
Hoo boy, I've been pretty distant all week because I've been fighting a cold (thankfully it's pretty much just congestion at this point) so I've got a bunch of things to catch up on! First of all, thanks to all the people who tagged me (or like, sent out a "soft" tag for people who see their posts) in this fun little game! I tried to keep my choices from just the unpublished parts of The Viscount's Bride, but I think one or two sentences from the first two chapters snuck in.
The basic idea is to take a word and spell it out with sentences (or excerpts I guess) that starts with that letter. It was a lot of work going through almost 7k words looking for unique sentences, but I think I only wasn't able to answer one or two! So, here we go! Words (and who issued them) are at the start of each section!

"Guard-Captain!" Bran said, standing at her entrance and leaving the support of the Viscount to Darvia.
Reading, maybe... did noblewomen read for fun?
"And rest assured, His Excellency will hear about this," Bran said, holding the knife in his free hand as if it were a dead rodent.
She'd been thinking about him, but she didn't really know him yet, and the more she stared at the page, the more inaccurate the sketch looked.
"Please, just give me something to do, or I'll go mad."

Darvia eagerly took the knife back and pushed down a triumphant smile.
Reluctantly she rolled off the bed and walked over to the wardrobe with her belongings.
Exploring the keep was off the table, obviously, but what else was there to do anyway?
After another several minutes of walking and another crossroads, she began to wonder if she was going in circles.
Most of the hallways were interior, too.
Each was slightly different, for darker or lighter lines respectively, and she knew them like they were her children.
"Rubbed all of us the wrong way."

Possible, but any stone sense was long gone from her lineage, and all she felt was trapped inside these stone walls.
"Or are all guests required to relinquish their belongings here?"
It felt like she was going insane, or the Keep was growing new hallways as she walked.
Somewhere, somewhere, in this building was her room.
On the fifth day since she'd arrived in Kirkwall, the intense boredom finally took its toll.
"Now, I don't recommend twine in the Keep--someone could get hurt--but as Viscount, I give you full permission to write on the walls so you can find your way around."

Lunch was spent in her room, with a tray brought up from the kitchens.
"Excuse me?" she managed to gasp, too stunned for a longer statement.
The head on the page had started to form as she drew, gaining a heavy brow and broad jaw, shrewd eyes and an aquiline nose.
"How did I find out?" He grinned.
Another chuckle told her she'd fully incriminated herself.
(I am out of sentences that begin with R at this point XD)
“Good to know, I might have thought this was the Viscount of Kirkwall’s idea of a good time,” she teased, but the humor felt forced as it left her lips.
Yet every fiber of her training, brought on by years of practice, said he couldn't be trusted.
"Biscuit" @becausedragonage
But, he was also a grown man with his own money, and far more powerful than she.
"I'm telling you, she's the new girl!" the elf said, indignantly.
Something was pressing down on him, and Varric yanked himself to the side, trying to escape.
"Can't be, she's not his type," a human woman across the room spoke up, her dark eyes peering out from under her shaggy black bangs.
(And U is a letter I don't have at the start of a sentence at all! Points to you!)
It didn't take a genius to figure out exactly what kind of establishment this "Rose" was, and Darvia wasn't sure she liked the implications.
"To tell you the truth, I think his Excellency would probably have approved, he made such faces when she couldn't see. "

Mending and darning she could handle, but her few attempts at needlepoint had been slow and left her with fingers that bled, and ached for ages after.
One young woman, an elf with ochre-colored skin and frizzy hair just a shade or two darker, beckoned Darvia over to sit beside her.
"Oh, and I'm Liris, by the way!"
No chance of his clothes strangling him with that wide neckline.
Liris chirped up from beside Darvia.
"I was ready to put a frog in the blonde-haired girl's sheets, she was just awful!"
Gently she took the hardest pencil, which made the lightest lines, and flipped to a blank page in her book.
"He's still unmarried at his age. He's visited the Rose."
The Viscount was her host, and it might not be expected for her to ask about his health, but at the same time she was also allegedly intended to marry him.
Phew! That was a lot of sentences, and I'm not sure who else I should tag! Maybe @mageofquandrix or anyone else who's been tagged in the rest of the page and wants another go? And of course, anyone reading this is welcome to join in too!
As for a new word, let's go with "Gossip!"
