What are your thoughts about Hapi?

hapi is like one of my favorite three houses characters, literally top 3 with her and yuri and dorothea i think (cindered shadows was too good to us… or maybe to ME i know everyone didnt like it too much but its my favorite fire emblem dlc pack aside from the future past) and i just think shes sooo well done. her gimmick on paper is really stupid, she sighs and then monsters show up. that’s ridiculous! but i think when writing hapi they knew just how much to lean into the absurdity of it and how much to have her work without it which is a balance i feel like some three houses characters, and fire emblem characters in general, dont always manage to find. (rest under cut because i started rambling 😓)

i think it works well with her because she acknowledges that it sucks, but she’s not going to spend her whole time crying about it because that would just be annoying! and it also sets up really funny situations where like, the wolves are ribbing her a bit and then theyre like “haha. wait. WAIT DONT SIGH” which is a little silly. this feels ridiculous to type out because on paper i acknowledge this is a really fucking stupid character trait but i like it a lot i really do

outside of that though i think shes just a very refreshing character. i dont necessarily agree with her stance on the church (well not ALL of it but also. #nuance #morallygrey) but i can appreciate that she’s upfront with how she feels and also why. they promised to protect her and then they shoved her in abyss!! you can argue that she was dangerous and they had no choice and blah blah blah but from her perspective that is really fucked up! and its nice to see someone aside from like, edelgard have that kind of rage, and its also nice to see someone with that rage NOT start a whole war over it. i also think her perspectives with the other wolves are all very refreshing. unlike the rest of them she really doesn’t have a “traditional” fodlan upbringing (none of them really do but they all have some sort of experience with fodlan nobility/high society thats standard at garreg mach? not GOOD experiences but. you get what i mean?) and so i think she serves as a good straightman type character to all of their bullshit. but unlike what you’d expect from a typical straightman (think ingrid for example) shes a lot more flexible. she’ll tell them theyre acting stupid, sure, but then she’s just kind of like “well its not my problem. do whatever you want i guess” and that is my favorite approach to that kind of character. shes very level headed but she’s not preachy and she’s very hands off. could she have probably saved them all some grief if she cared a little more? yes. but is it funnier this way? also yes. i also think her story, as surreal as it all is, makes her just a very grounded and relatable character. i think its partly her va (who is fantastic) but she just feels very real and her reactions to everything around her, while also funny, feel very human in a world where everyone you talk to is a hot shot uptight asshole who have never given thought to the world around them. i just think shes neat essentially

anyways this is long so i’ll will finish and say that i also think her design is one of my favorites in every single iteration we get of her :) her hair is SOOOO gorgeous, the best shade of pink btw, and i love how her hopes and timeskip outfits throw in the green and black palette. it suits her SO well. and then in houses when she gets the golden jewelry? ugh. chefs kiss. she is so beautiful. no one else is tripping over their feet to talk to her???
