my personal favorite stimboards masterlist!

so, as it turns out... i've made a lot of stimboards since 2021 when i made my first favorite stimboards stimboard. i wanted to make another stimboard of the boards, but i quickly found out i had way too many favorites to fit in a stimboard that my computer or phone could handle lol.

How do I fall out of love with someone? any advice?

I'd say just put your stereo speakers like ear muffs over your ears, put on Black Flag or Sun O))) until you can feel the soundwaves propel any love in your bloodstream downwards until it leaves your body. Like smoking out a witch from her den 👍

*The more serious answer: I guess it completely depends on your situation. Was there mutual, reciprocated love before, or was it one-sided infatuation? All I know is that you cannot control love. Or whom you fall in love with, or when, or even where. Similar to the unruly lunar tides in our earthly atmosphere. So try to be gentle with yourself for feeling what you had, and for whom you had feelings for. Sometimes your situation works out, other times it does not, but there will always be someone in the world dying to meet a heart like yours - even if it takes time to find that click again.

So instead, focus on what you can control: which is your rationality, judgment and behavior. Check your situation and review, with much clarity as is attainable, what you must do in order to heal your heart. Sometimes it involves the cruelest but most noble lesson of all: love can also mean letting go. And let them go if they wanna fly. We're all sacks of bones of free will, no one belongs to you. And love in the fast-paced urbanized 21st century oftentimes turns out to be a farce or a tool to get by (either financially or to fulfill lust, desire and external image (socially: towards the outer world)), anyways. Then face the reality that you're possibly not meant to settle into a situation/someone that wants to stray from your side. If they do return, well have a toast and kiss their face. But focus on yourself, most of all, don't let it consume you. There will be more romantic opportunities. Life is short, enjoy your fucking self.

Red Flag Symbols for Christians #2

My vacation to California had me get a little behind on my posts for this series. Lol Actually my time in Cali reminded me of another symbol used by many modern artists. This post will focus on the spiritual meanings of the Moth. Both the Chinese Lunar moth and the Death’s Head Hawk moth are two types of moths being used and seen in current witchcraft-related, pagan and gothic art.

From wikiHow: moth symbolism

Moths can represent change, transformation, and growth. Many cultures see moths as symbols of death and believe they bring messages from the afterlife. Others believe that moths symbolize your intuition and encourage you to trust your inner wisdom.

The Chinese lunar moth is used heavily along side the moon phases image and specific plants like mushroom and other herbal plants. Simply with the name of the moth makes sense why wiccans love them so much. Lunar equal “luna” is spanish for “moon”. These specific types of moth artwork are mainly for nature worshipers, pagans, witches and wiccans Other symbols to be aware of like in the second image is the “third eye” at the bottom, the snakes (x2), crystals and of course, the moon on top. The “third eye” usually represents the ability to see beyond/what’s ahead/foreseeing. Crystals are believed to posses the power to heal, a trend that’s been building in popularity in our society. This believe has already been debunck by science; future blog post to come.

Just to point out in the image above, many artists who use moths and etc. symbols in their artwork are sometimes feminists and naturalists as well. Which is why the witch girl in the image above has slightly hairy arms and legs; they choose not to shave. I personally don’t see anything wrong with this choice, but I have noticed the pattern in women who choose to do this are making a conscous statement towards society.

Now onto the Death’s Head Hawk moth which symbolizes as an omen of death. This believe isn’t limited to this specific and rarely seen moth, but moths in many cultures have this similar folklore that foreshadows death. We knew moth follow the moon light at night and dwells is dark corners during the day. In many tribal cultures moths, and sometimes butteries, are able to cross into the spirit realm and return with messages for their ancestors. As Christians, we know this doesn’t match with our beliefs and what’s written in God’s Word.

Hekate: Goddess of Witches

Book Review by Buggabeewitch

I’m going to do this in sections, I have so much to cover. TL;DR, I loved this book and highly recommend it to witches interested in Hekate, people who are just beginning or already somewhat on their path with Hekate, or just any witch at all, whether you want to work with Hekate or not, you can still glean much wisdom from this book.

Part One: Disclaimers and Prefaces

I don’t have anything to disclaim about this book, actually, other than that I picked it up on a whim and didn’t research the author beforehand. I still haven’t researched the author. I’m saying this because if anyone has an information about her in regards to her being a bad person, an appropriator, etc, as many occult authors are, I’m not claiming to defend her of those actions. I’m reviewing the book, not the author. However, if there are any ghosts in her past, bring them to my attention and the attention of others. Such “ghosts” are not always irredeemable, but are important to bear in mind when reading the works of someone who has them in their past.

This section is mostly about disclaimers the author makes, and how I’m so glad she made them!

Weber often times throughout her book references safety as of the utmost importance. She makes sure to mention that when she has done work outdoors or in the dark of night, that she does not go alone, that she does so at crowded times of day.

She makes the distinction between modest discomfort and damaging traumatic experiences, which is important. Discomfort is nothing to shy from, and is vital to confront at times; but this doesn’t mean endangering your physical, emotional, or psychological well-being. That must be avoided and “refused,” as Weber states very clearly.

She makes sure to mention that neo-pagans may refer to Hekate as a triple-goddess, with the maiden/mother/crone (m/m/c) archetype. She does not regard Hekate as such, to my understanding, but does make sure to mention where this very modern idea of Hekate comes from. She is Hekate Triformis, she has some connections with lunar magic, and thus has been syncretised, wrongly, in my opinion, with that m/m/c archetype by modern neo-pagans, namely wiccans.

When Weber discusses how Hekate is referred to as “dark,” and explains how “darkness” is not to be feared or strayed away from, and how those who work in “dark” places or fields are often the kindest and most caring among us, she makes sure to mention her opinion on the use of the terms “dark” and “light,” or “black” and “white” magic. That being that they are not good terms, they don’t describe what you actually mean, and that they have overtly racist origins. A very important note for those beginning in witchcraft who are likely seeing those terms thrown around flippantly by those who either don’t know better, or are just plain racist, or are actively choosing not to confront the problems with those terms. To those of you who come to this news fresh, consider “baneful” and “beneficial” magic instead.

Part Two: Moon Goddess?

My only major gripe with this book is the continual reference to Hekate as “lady of the moon.” I didn’t personally associate Hekate with being of the moon, and actually saw references to her as such as being a red flag for those who syncretise Hekate with that m/m/c archetype. However, Weber backs up her reasons for calling her such. There’s many well-researched and cited sources for her associations with the moon. Weber mentions Hekate’s syncretization with other Greek and Roman goddesses who are more historically and more closely related to the moon (such as Selene and Artemis). Also, she goes into her origin story with Hekate as a moment when she looked up to the moon and said “I’m Yours.” So maybe she associates Hekate with the moon so strongly because Hekate appeared to her in a moment of Epiphania through the moon on that night.

Whether you want to take that as Weber’s “UPG” or as something truly well-founded, is up to you, really. Personally, I won’t be calling Hekate the “lady of the moon” any time soon. But I respect Weber’s choice to do so. I respect that that’s her relationship with Hekate. And honestly, she brings up historical and mythological sources for Hekate’s lunar connections, so while I still wouldn’t call her a “moon goddess,” or a “goddess of the moon,” per se, I would say she has connections to the moon. And therefore, the moon can be a symbol of Hekate. Hope that made sense.

Part Three: Goddess of Wicthes, or Witches of the Goddess?

In Fel the Blithe’s YouTube series on Hekate, Fel raises the question, is Hekate a witch and has Hekate always been associated with witches, or has her association with witches developed over time because of her characteristics, retinue, and attributes (such as crossroads, torches, certain animals, etc) being considered “witchy.” I know I phrased that question poorly, but I hope you can still gather the gist of it.

It’s interesting to ponder that question. It seems to be Weber’s belief that Hekate is the Goddess of Witches (it’s literally the name of the book, after all). I don’t think taking either side makes you more right or wrong, actually, because ancient and modern worship are both equally valid and true. Whether she came to be known as a goddess of witches later or always has been, to me, is unimportant. It’s seems that she’s a “witchy” figure regardless, and therefore can be known as a patroness of witches whether that’s historically founded or not. Whether modern witches have her that title or if she always had it, again, to me, isn’t very important.

In the book, Weber goes into being the Family Witch. She relates Hekate’s family and history to one’s own family and history. She tells how Hekate is well respected, or feared; rejected, or often come to in times of need; how she is often the only one to step up in times of fear or discomfort (see the myth of Persephone’s Abduction, specifically Demeter’s search for her daughter). Does that not sound familiar? Yeah. Sounds a lot like being the only witch in the family, which is a truth many of us live. So whether Hekate was always a patroness of witches or not, it seems, and Weber would certainly argue, that she certainly has all the necessary qualifications for being such now.

Now, I’m still learning about how I feel about that question that Fel raises. I’m not saying that Weber’s belief is correct, or that the opposite is true. I’m saying that it’s important to ponder and that, for a third time, to me, the conclusive answer isn’t of vital importance and it may not exist. Hekate is a goddess of mystery. This is just one mystery of many. Plus, I think it’s just important to ponder it for yourself when you go into reading a book where the author does clearly pick one side of that coin.

Part Four: Thoughts on the Included Rituals and Spells

TL;DR, I loved them. I found them to be incredibly customizable and most importantly accessible. She takes care to mention that you don’t need to follow her words to the tee. She says specifically that her rituals are not a “prescription” but a guide or suggestion. Weber offers both modern and ancient rituals, hymns, and prayers. While historically rites to Hekate were preformed at crossroads at midnight, there’s nothing wrong with doing them during the day in your backyard or in your home. As Hesiod says, and I’m heavily paraphrasing, one who offers little but often is more pious than one who offers much but rarely. Doing the best you can is all the gods of our religion can ask of us! Weber takes care to mention that you shouldn’t put yourself into perilous situations or run yourself into debt in order to offer to the gods. She says specifically to view an offering to a god like an offering to a guest in your home. If all you have is cookies and coffee, then offer cookies and coffee! Sober and/or can’t have alcohol in the house? Offer soda or clean water! Do. Your. Best.

I found her rituals to be helpful especially because she explains the purpose behind what she’s suggesting. She’s not telling you to Do A Thing and then expecting you to understand why. Knowing why she’s offering a certain idea is important because it gives you the tools to adapt that suggestion to your own practice.

One such ritual for protection, she writes to first draw the outline of a dog and to write the names of those you need protected. Dogs are sacred to Hekate, and are well known guardians and companions. If dogs terrify you, or if horses are more your thing, or even cats, then you’re welcome to draw that instead of a dog. Because it’s your practice. What you do is personal, and that’s what makes it special and a powerful bit of magic for you in your life.

Part Five: Shadow Work

Weber does not mention the phrase “shadow work.” She does about twice or thrice mention the word “shadow,” but never the phrase “shadow work.” However, she does describe it. She describes times in her life when she needed to face ugly truths, or when clients of hers needed help confronting their fears or personal ugliness at a metaphorical crossroads. She describes when Hekate appeared as a epiphany in an ugly time to light the way. She describes how it’s important to do things that are modestly uncomfortable, and how some of the most powerful magic comes from an uncomfortable place. She describes how working through your past, confronting the hard parts, and bettering yourself before vowing to help others is important. Doesn’t that sound an awful lot like shadow work?

The way she describes Hekate’s role in these parts of the book makes it seem like Hekate is a great facilitator of shadow work. She’s not going to do the work for you — no, no, no — nobody can do that but yourself. But she describes Hekate as an important guide or helping hand in these times. Shadow work can be hard, it can be scary, but it’s often necessary for self improvement and moving forward in life or even just in your practice. This was a comforting as well as interesting takeaway from the book!

Part Six: Conclusion and Final Thoughts

I loved this book. I have few gripes, like the aforementioned continual reference to Hekate as “lady of the moon,” or the implication that witchcraft is it’s own spirituality or religion rather than a path that can include spirituality or religion, or not.

Weber’s book includes many personal anecdotes, which to some readers may become tiring when you’re here to learn about a goddess and not about a priestess. However, I personally loved the anecdotes. I feel like sharing moments of divine epiphany and other personal stories can show how a deity can impact one’s life in a way something more impersonal just can’t. It’s comforting sometimes to hear from a modern human how a deity can take form, it’s helpful to hear from a modern human how rituals and spells can look in the modern day. So for those reasons, I really didn’t mind those bits.

Again, if you’re interested in Hekate, or in witchcraft, namely in religious or specifically hellenic witchcraft, or in sprits and the dead, this book has something for you. I just finished the book this morning so I haven’t had much time to put any of my new learnings to practice. However, I will report back. That’s a promise.

Embry has green grey eyes, a pale complexion with a dash of light freckles, her hair is naturally black with purple highlights.

Personality

She is sarcastic, believes that everyone is somehow different and shouldn't fit in to an unrealistic mold that is laid before them, she takes great pride in being a "freak" and her heritage with her ancestors being witches, and she takes great pride in how she can read people and believes that more people (especially her fellow witches) should as well.

Abilities

Emery is able to perform a form of magic that allows her to cast magical spells and feats through the moon. Moon magic draws on the spirit and energy of the Moon. The Moon is cyclical in its strength, relating directly to the lunar phases. This source is at its strongest during a full moon, myth wise Moon magic deals in concealment spells, and connections with spirits and the veil between life and death.

Background

Embry was always close to her mother since she never got the chance to meet her father, there situation is still unknown as to why or where he may be. Embry was actually the one to bring up the idea to stay in Romania and go to Nevermore Academy. Her mother, Estrella Warren, wasn't fond f the idea do to her less than stellar experience with the town folks and some of the students. Embry was eventually able to talk her mother into the idea of letting her go to Romania during a semester. When Estrella took notice of how excited Embry was to be able to go to the infamous academy she came to be a bit more comfortable with the idea. Embry continues her years at the school without a hitch. She had high grades in her class, became a Nightshade, and started a small club for any other witch who was interested or just anyone interested in such.

Embry would be lying if she said she got a good read on Wednesday Addams, she was the first person to ever stump her. Which in turn caused Embry to grow interested in getting to know the girl full of woe. Over time the two would slowly grow close, but with ups and downs as well.

When the year at the academy is cut short Embry has made a friendship with Wednesday and Enid. Excited for what the next year will bring with her new found circle of friends.

Friends

Wednesday

Embry and Wednesday both have an interest in detective work. Which is where the two really started to bond as Embry tried her best to help bring along Wednesday's case. She did have moments where she had doubts at Wednesday's ideas but when given proof Embry understood.

Enid

Embry and Enid would eventually become friends the two would become each others designated hair colorers.

Bianca

Embry and Bianca but heads... a lot. Embry understands why Bianca acts the way she does but she also knows that she does mean well in some of the stuff she does. Embry also enjoys the challenge that Bianca gives in fencing. Bianca was originally the person who introduced Embry to The Nightshades.

The Nightshade Society

Upon her entering the Nightshade Society she wasn't quick to trust the group or the society until she did a deep dive into the Society's history. She eventually would become friends or at least acquaintances with her fellow members.

Love Interest

Currently not aplicable/to be announced She is living her best single life. She tends to have trouble with finding relationships since she can read people better then they can read themselves, she isnt one to stick around if she's reading how uninterested they are in her or how interested they are in someone else. She wont stick around through the red flags as much as she may love someone she knows she should prioritize her mental health and emotional health over an unhealthy relationship. She wants to be able to find that one person who will show her that there's nothing to worry about, that they will be end game.

Forms of Witchcraft

•Dolls and Poppets

Poppets are the English terms for what movies call a ‘voodoo doll’. Voodoo doll is a misnomer, and does nothing for either poppets or Haitian magic.

Poppets can be used for a couple of things – mainly either cursing or healing. This doesn’t always have to be physical curses/cures – poppets can also be used to influence thought patterns.

Dolls can also be used to provide homes for Spirits, or used to create guardians. You can also use a doll as a scapegoat to prevent a curse from latching onto you.

•Shrinemaking

Shrine making is less a way to create a defined outcome, and more a way of pleasing Spirits who you may later want to call upon. It’s kinda like taking your new neighbours a pie, in case you ever need them to watch the house whilst you’re away. The pie is an overture to a friendly relationship, not direct payment for the house sitting. However, if you just blundered into their garden one day and offered them £100 to watch the house, they’d probably tell you to get lost. Randomly calling up Spirits, Saint or Deities can have the same effect. I mean, would you help someone get a job if they just banged on your door and waved some incense at you? Get your local Spirits pies. Find out what scents, and objects, and offerings that they like. Keep the land around you clean, and pick up after other people if you can. Use your vote and your money to protect the land from logging and fracking. Build a dedicated ‘meeting space’ where you call up Spirits, and fill it full of pictures of them or things they like. It pays dividends in the future.

Shrinemaking can also be used to help bless and protect your home and land. By connecting with the other Spirits that are there, you solidify the relationship, and can work together against intruders.

•Bottles and Jars

Witch bottles (or spell jars) are fun, easy ways to create a variety of effects. As a spell base, they can be effective for:

* money

* love

* friendship

* animal work

* protection

Some people define a witch bottle as strictly the traditional version which is used as a scapegoat, and call other spells involving bottles and jars ‘spell jars’. Some people use the term witch bottle to encompass all magics involving jars.

•Candles

Candle magic is a much more modern form of magic than you’d think – especially if we’re talking coloured candles. Candles were very precious objects in the past! However, it was not an unusual item to have, like a hunk of crystal or fairy doll, which is why they became an item to use for undetected witchcraft – like brooms, and cauldrons.

As candles have got cheaper and cheaper and less needed to be used for lighting, much more forms and types of magic have sprung up around them. With the addition of coloured waxes or painted candles, the sorts of magic you can do with candles has grown exponentially.

Candles are a subset of fire magic and therefore are fantastic for banishing, but they are often the beginners tool of choice. It’s easy to understand why – easy to get hold of, easy to use, and there’s as much fancy ritual needed as you feel inclined to give it.

When you want to expand your knowledge, you can still stick with candles – but investigate the use of oils, herbs and crystals in conjunction with candles.

•Crystals and Rocks

Crystals and rocks are often used as ‘ingredients’ in other spells. They are very easy to add to bottles, pouches, dolls and more. However, you can also use crystals in spell work solely on their own by adding them to your pillow, till, money box, plant pot, etc.

Their use goes much further than this, but that enters the realm of energy healing which is a part of many traditions and is a very dedicated and intensive practice all by itself, and too much to explain here.

Air

You can utilize the powers of air in a lot of ways. It’s usually good for cleansing spells – think sweeping with a ritual broom, burning incense (smoke=air, not fire), ringing bells or playing bowls, singing, using flags and wheels. Air methods tend to return quick results.

Earth

Earth brings slow results, but they tend to be larger. Earth practices include enchanting seeds that will bring you money as they grow, burying offerings in the Earth, making vessels and spells out of clay, or writing spells in the mud.

Fire

Fire can bring things into your life, but is much better used to get rid of them – for beginners, anyway. If there is anything in your life that you wish to get rid of, you can write or draw a representation of it and cast it into the fire to remove it.

Water

Water can take the longest time to bring you what you need. However, think of water pounding against a rock. Drips of water became rivers, became waterfalls. Water can often bring you the biggest results, but it may take a long time.

Water spells can include potions (see below), but can also include ritual baths, leaving offers in water, or giving up bad energy or habits to the ocean.

•Bones

Bones are a contentious subject in witchcraft. Some people will never use them, some people’s practice is not complete without them. You can actually get bones in an ethical manner, by either cleaning up roadkill yourself or paying someone to do it for you, or literally keeping the bones from your dinner!

Some uses for bones are:

* Telling the future (casting bones or lots)

* Housing the Spirit of the animal so you can work with them

* Form parts of wands or ritual jewellery or headresses

* Ingredients in pouches

Tarot, Runes and Ogham

You can use all of these fortune telling tools in spells, too! You can choose one of them that has a characteristic or represents an outcome that you’d like. So if you wanted a new job, you might choose the Ace of Pentacles. Then you could do any one of the following with it:

* Use it to focus a candle spell

* Add it to a pouch or bag spell

* Add it to a jar spell

* Use it in lieu of a sigil

* Make a vision board around it

* Even burn it! (You can get single Tarot cards for this purpose on eBay.)

•Potions and Elixirs

Potion Magic used to be a lot more popular. Whilst elixirs, tisanes and tea blends are still popular for use on yourself, the masses of recipes of potions, philtres and similar recipes have all but died out. That’s because a lot of potion magic is only to be used in desperate circumstances, like love potions and curses. The reason so many old fashioned love potions are beyond creepy and controlling is that woman’s husband was her meal ticket. If he left her, not only would she be blamed, but she would be out of a house, food and her own family probably wouldn’t take her in. She had shamed them all. (Often through no actual fault of her own.) She was literally facing public humiliation, being outcast, perhaps even starving to death – and sometimes her children along with here.

So dousing a lover or husband’s food with love potion made a lot more sense then, than it does now.

Thankfully, most of us don’t live in those circumstances any more, so a lot of philtre or potion use has died out. However, there are still some amazing things you can make to ingest yourself:

* Tea blends

* Tisanes (herbals teas)

* Bath spells

* Lunar or solar water

* Herbal Oils

Spoken Magic

Spoken Magic can be long and complicated, or very short. It doesn’t have to rhyme (but it can) it doesn’t have to flow like poetry (but it can). You can use spoken incantation to help direct energy when you’re using other methods, but you can also use it on it’s own.

Some examples of spoken magic:

* Affirmations

* Words of power

* Singing

* Ritual Offerings

* Wishes

You can even banish Spirit’s solely through your voice. Shouting ‘Leave!’ with the correct intention can be very powerful.

•Written Magic

Written magic has existed since we could write. Many cultures view writing AS magic. Think about it – 26 (or thereabouts, depends on your alphabet) tiny squiggles can become anything when placed in the right order. Dumbledore was right about the power of words.

Written magic can include:

* Petitions to Spirits

* Magic squares

* Words of power or protection

* Wishes

* Tattoos

* Rune work

Bag and Pouch Magic

There is all kinds of bag magic – from mojo bags, to more modern spell envelopes. The main idea behind bag or pouch magic is that keeping a carefully curated selection of objects together for a certain time period will produce the effects that you want. A lot of bag magic produces indefinite spells provided they are charged. Such bags usually grant the wearer protection, prosperity, luck or good health. However, there are bag magics wear a specific time limited spell is wanted – invisibility spells, hex breakers and the like.

•Enchantments and Glamours

Enchantment covers a variety of spell types, but theme of the spells are pretty much the same. Enchantment covers a lot of the old folklore kind of witchcraft – hidden worlds, changing age, changing into different animals and so on.

Enchanting something fools the viewer into believing something is there when it is not, or isn’t there when it is, or is something completely different.

Think of the Harry Potter scene where Hermione explains that the ceiling of the Great Hall isn’t a real sky, it’s just enchanted to look that way.

Real enchantment can be done for fun, but they can also be useful pieces of magic. You can enchant jewelry, clothes or makeup to bestow certain personality traits upon you. You can enchant your witchy items to look normal if you’re fearful of discovery. The possibilities are just about endless.
