“I wondered when I’d see you again,” Ana said, this time immediately stopping working as Luv had entered the lab, and coming closer to the glass wall.

She seemed surprised, but pleased. And maybe something else. 

Luv also went forward, until all that separated them was the glass wall. 

She thought a lot about Ana since she’d last seen her. She thought of her smile, and her hands, and the things she’d said. She thought of Ana at different periods of the day. She thought of Ana when she saw a new replicant being born. She thought of Ana after she killed people for Mr Wallace, wondering what Ana would say about that—seeing as she had implied that even retiring old models wasn’t something she completely agreed with, Luv concluded that a replicant killing a human, even if under another human’s order, would be seen as even more negative.

Sometimes Luv thought about Ana’s opinion when she knew she should be thinking about Mr Wallace’s.

And more than anything, she’d thought about Ana saying that she wanted to give replicants something good, something more. That made no sense, and perhaps that was why she thought of that the most. It was the only explanation Luv could find.

Knowing that Ana had also thought about her was… good. It served no purpose, furthered no goal, really, but it was good. Maybe it was that reciprocity seemed symmetrical, correct, she supposed.
