okay i’m curious has anyone else with OCD (of any kind but specifically magical thinking) ever cross/ almost cross into delusion? I remember a while back i had a very triggering night and when i sat back and thought, i was headed off into a very dangerous headspace. For me my magical thinking has some of its roots in fairytales, so ill have intrusive thoughts like “if you think this certain thought it will cause something bad to happen” and my brain always gives a personality to my mental illness’s so in this case the person behind the thoughts was kind of like the fae, a fairytale being that had magical abilities to do things and was the one telling me all this intrusive stuff. Now i didn’t believe that as fact it was just a character my brain made up and i knew it but on that triggering night i was close (way to close) to believing that the fairytale world might ACTUALLY exist and that this was real and the fairytale man i had created was legit. That hasn’t happened in a while now but it got me thinking about OCD and if it can lead to delusions as well if left untreated.

Understanding Magical Thinking OCD: A Deep Dive into Scrupulosity, Religious, and Moral OCD
Tumblr media
Magical Thinking OCD  also known as scrupulosity OCD, religious OCD, or moral OCD, is a subtype of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) that revolves around irrational beliefs and fears related to morality, religion, or superstition. Individuals with this form of OCD may experience intrusive thoughts that their actions or thoughts could lead to catastrophic consequences, such as harming themselves or others, or violating religious or moral principles. These thoughts are often accompanied by rituals or compulsions performed to neutralize the perceived threat or prevent harm, which can significantly impair daily functioning and quality of life.
Scrupulosity OCD is characterized by excessive concern with moral or religious issues, leading to intrusive thoughts about sin, blasphemy, or moral wrongdoing. These individuals may feel compelled to confess their perceived sins repeatedly or engage in rituals to seek forgiveness or avoid punishment. For example, someone with scrupulosity OCD may fear that not praying a certain number of times or in a specific way will lead to harm coming to themselves or their loved ones.
Religious OCD, on the other hand, focuses specifically on religious beliefs and practices. Individuals with this form of OCD may obsess over whether they have committed a religious offense or fear that their actions will lead to divine punishment. They may engage in rituals such as excessive prayer, avoidance of religious symbols, or seeking reassurance from religious figures to alleviate their anxiety.
Moral OCD, sometimes referred to as just right OCD, involves obsessive thoughts about morality and ethics. These individuals may be preoccupied with the idea of right and wrong, often fearing that their actions will lead to harm or moral corruption. They may engage in rituals such as repeatedly checking their actions, seeking reassurance from others, or mentally reviewing past events to ensure they have not done anything wrong.
Treatment for Magical Thinking OCD typically involves a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and medication. CBT helps individuals challenge and change their irrational beliefs and behaviors, while medication, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), can help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression associated with OCD.
It is important for individuals with Magical Thinking OCD to seek help from a mental health professional experienced in treating OCD. With proper treatment and support, individuals with this condition can learn to manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life.

does anyone else have the problem of both magical thinking and intrusive thoughts combining, cus part of me is convinced that if I think about something enough it’ll become true (and if something even slightly similar happens it confirms my belief-Ik it’s confirmation bias but still- and now I’m worried that my intrusive thoughts will become true and they’re rly horrible

we should talk more about the commorbities between magical thinking OCD and schizophrenia and other paranoid disorders, i was under suspicion of schizophrenia for months because my intrusive thoughts were that much unthethered from reality and no amount of rational thoughts would help convince me they weren't true and were impossible to happen

Do you think grian would be (something like) survivors guilt about xelqua , since he's the version that like. Left the watchers pre xelqua (ifthat makes sense)
yeah, i do think something like that. Especially since the Saint has made comments abt him only existing because of Grian's choices.
A lot of it manifests as sort of, parental guilt, with kid Xelqua. He feels guilty every time Xelqua is upset over something, or every time Grian finds himself annoyed or overwhelmed with him. he thinks back to his own childhood and thinks he's doing just as bad.
Its probably why he accidentally acts parental around the other versions, like hes sorta trying to fix things, even tho most of it is out of his control or not at all his fault.
EvoAU Grian is usually trying to justify his own existence, he works hard so people keep him around, so he doesn't get kicked out of HC, so the Watchers will love him. So in this case with Xelqua, Grian feels guilty for now living soundly, and is trying to make up for it by helping another version of himself.
(Which is what Xelqua was already doing with other versions of Grian, anyway, they rly are one and the same.)

okay i haven’t seen anyone say it before but mista seems like he could possibly have magical thinking OCD, like as a person with magical thinking OCD watching him get so stressed over the number 4 and being lowkey obsessed with luck in general hit pretty close to home. I know luck is a big deal in asian cultures and Tetraphobia is also a possibility but the way he’s so fixated on it and gets such GENUINE distress in a way the other’s don’t really seem to understand REALLY stuck out to me as an ocd haver. For example the number 6 makes me quite anxious and gets a physical reaction out out of me at even the thought of it due to its relation to the devil, and i try to avoid it out of fear it will cause bad luck or harm similarly to mista and the number 4. So im curious what to yall think?

my therapist just referred me to a neuropsych for an evaluation at the end of our session because i dumped a bunch of stuff on her that i’d never told her about before and she said that it sounds like magical thinking but she also isn’t sure whether it’s closer to an obsessive anxiety kind of magical thinking or a psychosis kind of magical thinking, which is funny because i’ve been wondering the same thing for so long but i didn’t actually tell her that, she just came to the same conclusion after hearing all of it.
so that was hands down the most unexpectedly validating session i’ve had in a while, but more importantly, getting officially tested is VERY long overdue for me and it’ll feel good to finally get it done and have answers instead of never being able to say “i have XYZ” confidently because it’s all theories and nothing is confirmed. i know that official psych diagnoses come with their own host of challenges, but at this point, i just desperately need to be taken seriously for once if i’m going to survive the way my brain is.

Stefania's life is a prism that refracts a new beam of light at every angle & today I am thinking about how on the day she died she was organizing the procurement & distribution of essential medications for both postwar refugees in the UK & people in the PRL who couldn't obtain them at home. She and An-sky had this in common, an absolute relentlessness about mutual aid and organizing community care, to their very last breaths

Yukio doing daily rituals because if he does these things, Rin won't die. Sometimes he recognizes that it's irrational to do these things. He can't control what will and won't happen. But doing them gives him a sense of peace.
And also ensures that Rin won't die.
