“Ah, Y/N…” Minho says, lightly nudging you. “When are you gonna get off me?”

His voice, flat but gentle, cuts through the air around you, making the crickets chirping nearby sound like a mere pin drop. He doesn’t mean to sound rude, though his tone alone would have raised the eyebrows of strangers passing by. Luckily, there aren’t many people around to spare him weird glances this late at night.

It’s a genuine question, though. Instead of stomping around on the playground down the slope with your friends, you have effectively trapped Minho next to you atop a nearby hill. Your legs are outstretched before you, your shoes innocently tapping against his as you rock your feet side to side. Your arm sits comfortably next to his, and your head rests on his shoulder. He’s all but stuck now, like sap on a maple tree in January, and if you don’t move soon, he’ll be doomed to spend the rest of the night here in the grass.

He feels you shrug next to him.

“Hmm?” Minho hums. His eyes widen just slightly as you scoot closer. Your hand brushes against his, and your fingers lazily drum a pattern into the warm earth below you. He tries to ignore this and pokes you repeatedly in the arm.

“Come onnnn…” he says. “When are you gonna get up?”

Your quiet “I dunno” in response fills his ears.

“What do you meeeaaann, ‘I dunno’?” He makes a show of rolling his eyes, then clicks his tongue. “Why don’t you wanna get up, hmm?”

A scream echoes through the park and makes Minho look up for a moment. Changbin’s short figure flies through the air, his arms flailing. The swing behind him rocks erratically as he falls onto the mulch with a thud. Wooyoung points and cackles loudly from the swing next to him, but quickly lets out a shriek of his own and grips onto the metal chains. Further right, Jungwoo and Chaeryeong’s silhouettes chase each other around on the main playground equipment. Lampposts at the edge of the playground cast a dim yellow glow across the space, like the ones in retro film recordings. Minho can imagine the little “PLAY” icon floating at the top left of the scene, blinking periodically several feet above the dark blue awning.

He feels a light tap against his shoe again.

“Owww!” Minho feigns a cry. He picks up his feet and swipes them away from you in one swift move, the corners of his lips pulling down in an exaggerated pout. “Y/N, that hurt~ how dare you…” 

Looking back at you, you’re mindlessly clicking your feet against each other, and you’re still all cuddled up on his shoulder. His heart thumps a little louder in his chest when you shove your head closer to him.

“Yah, Y/N…”

“Hmm...” Your soft hum comes out more as a statement than a reply.

You flutter your eyes closed, your lashes gently batting against your skin. He heaves out a sigh, and the warm breeze tickles his cheeks with a light blush. It seems to have more mercy on you, though, as it delicately brushes your stray hairs away from your forehead, framing your face perfectly. Almost too perfectly. The crickets blend into the quiet air as he takes in the sight.

“Hey…” Minho tries one more time. He tilts his head slightly as he gazes at you. “Why don’t you get up? Our friends are waiting.”

The breeze picks up for just a moment, making you scrunch up your nose. Minho gestures down the hill. It’s getting more difficult to look away from you. “See?” he continues. “Playground's right over there. ‘S loads more fun than I am.”

Another shriek rings out from the playground area. Chaeryeong lies in an awkward position at the bottom of the slide. The wind picks up again at the same time, whistling against Minho’s ears right as Chaeryeong yells something at Jungwoo. All he can make out is another scream as Jungwoo tumbles down the slide and knocks Chaeryeong onto the gravel.

But a light tap sings louder to Minho than all of it.

Looking back at you, his eyes trace down, stopping where your fingers meet his arm. As light as a hummingbird’s wing beat, your fingers tap across his forearm and leave a path of spreading warmth in their wake. They seem to float in the air as they skip further down. Your touch, so faint and gentle, nearly lulls him to sleep. He lets his eyes fall shut.

It’s like Minho is at the beach for a moment, and your fingers brushing against his skin are the ocean waves calmly swaying over his feet. Then, he feels a sudden blast as a tidal wave crashes over him, its currents pulling him under and leaving him unable to breathe. His eyes snap open and right toward the spot where your hand has come to a gentle rest over the top of his own.

Minho’s eyes meet your soft ones. Your head is still comfortably nestled on his shoulder, and your cheeks seem to glow in the dark when you smile at him. For a moment, perhaps a moment too long, time comes to a still as he takes you in, watching you slowly melt into his side. You look so at peace, and he dare not disturb you, despite his urge to spring up and run down the hill and scream at Changbin. Thankfully, he’s too engrossed in the feeling of your hand on top of his to even try. He thanks his lucky stars once more that you’re also looking down at your hands, so you can’t notice the blood rushing to the tips of his ears.

Slowly, he spreads his fingers and gently threads them with yours. He glances at you, then looks down at his lap, a shy smile finally forming on his lips.

“Ah…” he says softly. “ Our friends can wait a little.”

The golden god and his golden trees

Something I've always found interesting about Zhongli is how, no matter if it's in official art or fanart, he's always depicted with ginkgo leaves. Turns out, it's not just a pretty coincidence. Don't get me wrong, I love how they designed his envisaged echo, but if they had given him Ningguang's echo with the fan shaped ginkgo leaves, I would think it'd fit perfectly too. There's more than just the vibrant golden color and it's elegant aesthetics that reminds me of Zhongli. First off, it's native to China, the country that Liyue is based off of, so there's no surprise in that. It's odd, not just because its nuts smell funny, but because this species has no surviving relatives. It's the only one in its lonely group of trees because it had simply outlived everything else in its order. The humble ginkgo tree is a living fossil that's remained unchanged for over 200 million years, literally the oldest tree on earth. This tree has seen the rise and fall of the dinosaurs and is somehow still miraculously with us, quietly witnessing human civilization's flourish. Its resilience is a quality that our golden god is known for. Ginkgo truly embodies the toughness and longevity of stone. It's hard not to imagine that human history is but a single ring engraved in its long history. Isn't that a romantic and chilling thought? With all humanity has been up to the past two hundred thousand years, I wonder how these trees see us. Are we as charming and memorable as Zhongli sees humanity? While Liyue is his pride and joy, it's a bit of a stretch to extend that to humanity in reality. The things we have put other species through can only be considered cruel. We have ended entire lineages and the only thing that prevents us from wiping out the ginkgos is its own innate talent of surviving anything and everything. Individual trees even managed to survive Hiroshima. If it could survive atomic bombs, it can pretty much survive anything. Also, it's adaptability to changing times is a feat in and of itself. Just like the character, ginkgo manages to charm its youngest admirers and integrate itself into humanity with ease, whether by its beautiful appearance, its mysterious history, or its unproven medicinal claims, one of which is curiously memory enhancement. There's simply something timeless and charming about this tree, just like Zhongli. Whoever wrote this character definitely took some inspiration. I've seen this pretty tree and its leaves depicted with other characters and in other contexts all the time because it's as popular and aesthetic as the red maple tree, but this is the first time someone truly embodied it to this extent. I usually write Zhongli fics, but this sort of demanded to be written (whatever this is lol) so I had to take a little break. Because I'm a certified-obsessed Zhongli simp, I fell into this rabbit hole, but I don't regret it one bit. He's a very complex and interesting character so even if I pick him apart, there's so much to write about.

The Old Town Trolley System

I figured it didn't make sense that Old Town doesn't have trolley tracks when its iconic icon is literally a trolley. Luckily, the updated SimPe enables us to EASILY add or remove roads!

So, I decided to turn Maple Street as one end of a trolley route with another ending in a loop further towards the waterfront.

The loop near the school and stadium rabbit holes.

Also, now that we can modify roads on SimPe, we can change how the roads look with regards to hood deco. Now, the Gunther Goth Highway is connected to the two lanes of the lake causeways.

Well hi :3 . This might be the weirdest question ever, but here i go anyways... How do you manage to make so many sims live in Brightmaple on such a rather small neighborhood terrain? i always feel like my neighborhood terrain is too small, for some weird reason (i never completely filled one).

Honestly it was getting pretty cramped there for a while, especially because the main hood terrain is also half community lots and owned businesses, and I like to have a certain amount of hood deco buildings in there too. That was a big impetus for finally building the shopping district Maple Mills, so I could move a bunch of community lots and currently un-owned businesses there, and start building new ones there too. I was definitely close to running out of space lol. I also added a road or two once I discovered the new SimPE road editing tool, which gave me room for probably at least 6 more lots just there alone. Moving lots to Maple Mills freed up even more.

Beyond that, I think it's a combo of several factors that I've implemented to keep things a little more manageable. I prefer smaller lots - the vast majority of mine are 2x2, at biggest maybe 2x3/3x2. So it's easier to fit more in. I have several apartment or townhouse lots so that helps with density, plus several households live downtown, also in apartment lots.

I have had population control implemented on my Sims since quite early on so it keeps the number of babies from mushrooming out of control (more about that on this page if you scroll down a little). I often notice people get overwhelmed and become disinterested in playing their hoods if every Sim is having like, 6 children and it's just too much. I try to follow the Sim's lead to some degree so I've got Sims who never had kids or even got in any serious relationships - in my system a romance Sim who never wants to settle down might have one risky woohoo baby, and that's the only kid they'll ever have.

Sometimes Sims stay living at home to inherit the house from their parents, or roomie up with another playable, or marry them, etc - so all these things help keep the total number of households down. I also started the retirement home a few rounds ago, where I can combine up to three elder households on one lot, and play them all at once.

As of my last "hood census" at the end of round 17 (I'm about half way through round 18 now) I had 29 households and 92 residents!

You were halfway through your pancakes when Luke walked in and your jaw fell slack. Your mind literally short-circuited as you stared at him. He was adjusting the sleeves of his shirt, pulling them up past his elbows. He hadn’t even noticed you gawking. He looked so pretty.

He was wearing a light-blue chequered shirt, sleeves rolled up past his elbows and the top three buttons of the shirt were undone. He looked so casual and yet gorgeous, and the colour complimented his skin in a way you had never seen. He looked breathtaking. The fit was a little loose but it framed his arms perfectly. The fabric showed off his muscles and the fact that the sleeves were rolled up meant you had the perfect view of his forearms and how his muscles flexed as he adjusted the fit. You had never seen him look so hot.

“What?” Luke’s voice snapped you back to reality. You were practically drooling, all thoughts of finishing the pancakes gone from your mind as you stared at him. He looked at you and then down at himself.

“Is that a new shirt?” You finally managed to choke out. His eyebrows furrowed and he nodded his head.

“Yeah?” He paused for a moment, your jaw still on the floor as your eyes roved over his chest. The fact the top was unbuttoned meant you could see just a bit of his chest and the marks that you had left there the previous night. Fuck, this man would be the death of you, “Oh, oh(!) okay,” His tone changed to one of playful understanding. You snapped your gaze back up to his face. A grin spread across his lips while you were floundering on what to say to him.

He walked over to where you were sitting at the breakfast bar and turned your stool around so he could slide himself between your thighs. His hand moved to your chin and pushed it up so your mouth was closed.

“You really like me in this, don’t you?” He teased as you looked up at him. You couldn’t help the way your eyes flicked across his body again. That shirt, honest to God, was doing something for you and you didn’t have a clue why. Your hand moved from your lap and up to his chest.

“Yeah,” You admitted. He chuckled and you dug your nails into his chest through the fabric, “Please wear this more often.” He couldn’t help how he was grinning. It was practically a smirk. He loved how easy it was to get you riled up sometimes and this hadn’t even been intentional but he found it endearing. He leant down, your faces inches apart.

“I will. Just for you,” He whispered against your lips before he pressed them together. It was such a soft kiss. He could taste the maple syrup on your lips as you tilted your head, deepening the kiss. Your arms wrapped around his neck, tugging him down. He chuckled against your lips while his hands moved to rest against your hips, “Later,” He whispered as he pulled back. You groaned, pouting playfully.
