Oswald Cobblepot considers himself a far higher class of criminal than most of the rabble making up Gotham’s lawless underbelly.
He doesn’t care about causing wanton chaos or strictly tying himself to some silly neurosis. No, no, he’s far cannier than that. He’s a businessman first and foremost. Why stoop to their level and get his own hands dirty unless it’s necessary? The masses are so simple. Control access to their vices—whether they be drugs, weapons, sex, information, or anything in between—and they will climb over themselves to dance to his whims.
And the strange new “ecto-tech” entering the city looks like it could become quite the moneymaker. It’s still rare enough for him to corner the market, and oh the possibilities…
Intangibility suits, a whole menagerie of tiny yet powerful hidden weapons, and so much more.
All in the hands of fools whom he can easily convince to let him take the reins as their sole middleman into the city’s markets. And if they don’t agree peacefully… well, he’s not above using a little bit of violent negotiation. They’ll come around, and then everyone else in Gotham will have to come flocking to him for a piece of the pie.
Yes, this seems like a perfect opportunity to solidify his grip. Maybe he’ll even get to pay back that bastard Red Hood for cutting into his profits…

Open source vs. closed doors: How China’s DeepSeek beat U.S. AI monopolies
By Gary Wilson
China’s DeepSeek AI has just dropped a bombshell in the tech world. While U.S. tech giants like OpenAI have been building expensive, closed-source AI models, DeepSeek has released an open-source AI that matches or outperforms U.S. models, costs 97% less to operate, and can be downloaded and used freely by anyone.

"Take the economic front, and ask whether capitalism can be restored economically in Russia. We have combated the Sukharevka black market. The other day, just prior to the opening of the All-Russia Congress of Soviets, this not very pleasant institution was closed down by the Moscow Soviet of Workers’ and Red Army Deputies. (Applause.) The Sukharevka black market has been closed but it is not that market that is so sinister. The old Sukharevka market on Sukharev Square has been closed down, an act that presented no difficulty. The sinister thing is the “Sukharevka” that resides in the heart and behavior of every petty proprietor. This is the “Sukharevka” that must be closed down. That “Sukharevka” is the basis of capitalism. While it exists, the capitalists may return to Russia and may grow stronger than we are. That must be clearly realized. It must serve as the mainspring of our work and as a condition and yardstick of our real success. While we live in a small-peasant country, there is a firmer economic basis for capitalism in Russia than for communism. That must be borne in mind. Anyone who has carefully observed life in the countryside, as compared with life in the cities, knows that we have not torn up the roots of capitalism and have not undermined the foundation, the basis, of the internal enemy. The latter depends on small-scale production, and there is only one way of undermining it, namely, to place the economy of the country, including agriculture, on a new technical basis, that of modern large-scale production. Only electricity provides that basis.
Communism is Soviet power plus the electrification of the whole country. Otherwise the country will remain a small-peasant country, and we must clearly realize that. We are weaker than capitalism, not only on the world scale, but also within the country. That is common knowledge. We have realized it, and we shall see to it that the economic basis is transformed from a small-peasant basis into a large-scale industrial basis. Only when the country has been electrified, and industry, agriculture and transport have been placed on the technical basis of modern large-scale industry, only then shall we be fully victorious."
— Excerpt from Vladimir Lenin, Report on the Work of the Council of People’s Commissars. December 22, 1920

I've been trying out Plottr and I really like it, the featureset jives really well with how I outline and what information I want around in that process and how I want to manipulate it.
You'd think that would be enough for me to recommend it, but for some reason it's followed suit with the enshittification of the internet and the primary way to access it is a subscription service. It's a fuckin' piece of software that you download to your computer and has files stored locally. It is feature complete and a full release so there is no real excuse for a subscription-oriented model except the company realising that a drip feed from your wallet is more profitable than selling you a piece of software that does not need any upgrades. The website attempts to justify this by saying 'lifetime updates' are included but it is currently fully functioning as is so I question the value proposition of paying in perpetuity to use a program on my computer to access and interact with files stored on my computer.
(There is an online version as well. I understand subscription models in this case as this is an area where continued development and maintenance are required, as well as server costs for your files etc.)
But, you say! There is a lifetime license! Problem solved!
It is two hundred fucking united states dollars.
I am in a good financial position these days. I can spend money on stupid shit I want. But I cannot get past the audacity of charging $200 for what should be the default fucking option for owning software.
There's nothing that quite does what Plottr does, at least that I've found. But for some comparison:
Scrivener is $59.99 once-off and is probably the best writing-oriented program out there
Aeon Timeline is $65 once-off including a year of free updates
Campfire Blaze honestly has a payment structure I am sideeyeing but at least you can get a lifetime license tailored to what you need out of the program and characters + timeline is still cheaper than Plottr
Wavemaker is donationware
Metos is a subscription model, but has Web-only considerations mentioned above, specific plans for features in development, and is $24 annually rather than $150
The entire Microsoft Office suite is $149.99. Between Word, Excel, and OneNote you could definitely figure something out from a writing perspective and also have all the functionality of a full suite of office software FOR LESS MONEY THAN PLOTTR.
There are of course a wide array of free softwares (Google docs/sheets, Libre Office, etc) but I specifically wanted to call out paid options here to demonstrate how ridiculous their pricing structure is
I dunno man. People are allowed to charge whatever they want for the things that they make, but this is just so blatantly out of step with the market that I can only assume the lifetime license price is specifically aimed at deterring lifetime purchases and extracting the maximum amount of money possible from their target market through subscriptions instead. I feel a particular kind of way about that target market being writers, a group notoriously not known for their financial stability.
Fuck subscription services with no ongoing value proposition taking over how we access software and fuck every company that makes the revenue-driven decision to engage in this tactic. Even if your motivations are honourable (we have people to pay! you want us to be able to pay our hard-working employees, right?) you are pursuing those goals through nothing less than the exploitation of your customers for maximum financial gain.

Since signing Colapinto from Williams, following his cameo role in the final few races of last season, the theory has been the access to Latin American money the Argentine gives means Doohan is on borrowed time. But that threat seems to have diminished for now, the funding perhaps more theoretical than real.
Interesting (and reassuring) bit of reporting about Jack's prospects at Alpine from Andrew Benson.

Ok I know I led the crash out movement yesterday, but today I'm renewed in spirit. Like of course Jonathan doesn't have any promo, they haven't marketed his character in ages. Like Joyce and Hopper are also noticably absent. For the most part, these leaks are things they think will help sell the show/get people engaged. And we KNOW the GA doesn't care about Jonathan.
But on the flip side we have those set photos and the unresolved plots from s4. The last time Jonathan had an unresolved plot at the end of the season was back in season 1. Which carried into/got resolved in s2 It might be wishful thinking but I truly believe the college, family, Nancy of it all is going to get resolved this season. Like it has to for other plots to work.
IDK TLDR don't lose hope yet

i genuinely dont get how so many people are uncritically excited for The Movie and have no issue with anything going on here i feel like im losing my mind a little bit . the trailers did not look good to me at all is everyone excited about it posting from an alternate dimension or something what are people seeing in this movie that im not .
#and i say this as someone whos standards are usually not that high and can have fun with most sonic media and liked the first 2 movies......#all i can feel is disappointment at how bad a job theyre doing at adapting sa2 and the disservice to certain characters/concepts#(obviously thats just based on the trailers i havent seen the movie and refuse to spend money on it so i cant give afull judgement#but the trailers certainly dont give a very good impression of the movie to me)#and before anyone says that its not an sa2 movie.theyre taking a lot of plot points and characters from sa2#and taking a lot of stuff from sa2 and using it in the marketing and such#they cant do all that and then go ''um actually its not an sa2 movie youre crazy for expecting an sa2 movie LOL''#i also wasnt expecting an exact recreation of sa2 either i would have bene fine with changes#but stuff like having gerald be alive and take rouge's spot in the dark story trio and making him a more comedic character#is ridiculous and feels inherently disrespectful to the source material#and thats not even getting into how it feels like im always hearing about some new awful thing#that paramount or one of the actors did which just makes me not wanna give them my money or time even more#sighhh i honestly just want this all to be over alerady and for the hype to die down so ican stop hearing about the movie#but i know its going to make one billion dollars and theyre just going to make more movies after this. hell on earth .
