pairing: physics nerd!jake x fem!reader
summary: jake is strong in physics, but struggles when it comes to keeping up with internet culture. lucky for him, you can teach him a thing or two about it.
genre: fluff, two smart idiots in love
warnings: reader gets hit on by a guy who doesn't get the hint that she's uninterested, but jake swoops in just in time
word count: ~3.4k
author's note: my first fic!! i wanted to treat my jake biased bestie with a fluffy read, and i hope this delivered! i had a lot of fun writing this LOL ~~ please feel free to let me know what you think!
The physics department is musty in that specific, clinical way only old university buildings know how to be – too drafty, too bright, and somehow suffocating and drab all at the same time. You step in wearily, pulling the cuffs of your hoodie sleeves over your hands to rub the sleep out of your eyes. It was eight in the morning, so you were expecting the place to be empty. Almost no one comes to these optional tutorials.
Except, apparently, for him.
Jake, one of your classmates, is already there, one leg bouncing lightly under the desk, chin resting on his hand as he squints at the problem set like it personally insulted him. His laptop is open, his screen displaying neatly organized notes with colour-coded bookmarks. You spot a sticky note stuck to the edge of his screen.
Remember: you're NOT dumb!! Just confused (temporarily). A wonkily drawn smiley face grins beside it.
You stifle a laugh. Cute.
"Is this seat taken?" you ask, gesturing to the chair across from him.
He glances up, blinking once as if it takes him a second to recalibrate to human interaction. Then he smiles, slow and lopsided, shaking his head. "Nope. You're good."
You plop yourself into the chair and start unpacking your stuff. Jake goes back to his worksheet.
For about three minutes, the only sound is the scratching of pens on paper and the occasional sigh of defeat, mostly from Jake's direction.
"If this vector projection were a person, I'd square up with it in a parking lot." he mutters, mostly to himself.
You snort. "At this rate, I fear it may have the upper hand."
He lifts his head, surprised but amused to hear your little quip. "Oh ye of little faith."
"You know," you say, tapping your pencil thoughtfully against your cheek. "If you really want to cause some damage, you should hit it with a force equal and opposite to its own."
Jake blinks.
Then he laughs, and it's bright, warm, and a little surprised, like the sound suddenly snuck up on him. He leans back in his chair, shaking his head.
"Wow. Did you just weaponize Newton's Third Law?"
"Maybe. Keeps the course interesting, don't you think?" you shrug, grinning.
He looks at you for a moment, still smiling, something unreadable flickering across his face.
"Honestly? I haven't enjoyed physics this much all semester." he admits.
You raise an eyebrow. "What, because it finally came with bad jokes?"
“Nah,” he murmurs, twirling his pen between his fingers with lazy precision. “Because apparently, it comes with you.”
You blink, caught off guard, your gaze trailing from the spinning pen to his eyes, which were entirely too focused on you.
He clears his throat, eyes widening a bit in alarm.
“Sorry, that sounded smoother in my head. I’m Jake, by the way. I don’t think we’ve officially met.”
You glance up at him, mind still reeling. You’re not sure if you’re more confused or flustered – honestly, probably both – but the flicker of something warm and fluttery in your chest is quick, insistent. You ignore it. Now isn’t the time to go unpacking whatever that is.
Jake’s pen spins a little faster now, the movement noticeably less casual, and he’s chewing the inside of his cheek like he’s already regretting every word that just left his mouth.
He looks so embarrassed that you decide to spare him the added awkwardness, pretending not to notice and offering him an easy out.
“I know,” you say, your voice thankfully sounding steadier than you feel. “You’re always here early. Kind of hard to miss.”
And it's true, you had noticed him before. More than once.
He was always there when you walked in, tucked into the same spot, neat notes, brows furrowed in deep concentration. Quiet, but focused. Kind of effortless in that way some people are without realizing it. And yeah, you always thought he was attractive.
There were a few times you considered pretending not to know how to solve a problem just to have an excuse to ask him for help… but you would always snap yourself out of it before you did something you might regret. You were not about to play dumb just to get a guy's attention – even one with annoyingly good hair and a face so distractingly beautiful that it could ruin anyone's GPA.
Besides, you could handle physics just fine – more than fine, honestly. You had a knack for it, a natural instinct for numbers and patterns and solving for things people didn't always see. But you kept your head down and stayed out of the spotlight. You were more comfortable being the person people underestimated, letting your exam score speak for themselves.
So yeah, you had noticed Jake. And sure, maybe you had imagined talking to him once or twice.
But you kept your curiosity to yourself. Until now.
"I guess I like the quiet." he states sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck.
You respond by introducing yourself, and he says your name like it's something new and delicate. Like it's something worth remembering. You try not to overthink how much you like hearing it roll off his tongue.
“So,” you say, taking a sip from your drink and squinting at him playfully over the rim of your tumbler. “You must have a thing for fluorescent lighting.”
Jake shrugs, the motion a little shy, like he’s used to defending habits he can’t quite explain. “I just like having time to set up.”
“Interesting. Most people I know would rather rot in bed doom-scrolling than show up early to a physics tutorial.” You tilt your head, pretending to analyze him.
He blinks once, confused. “Doom... scroll?”
You pause, lowering your cup. “Wait. Don’t tell me. You don’t have TikTok, do you?”
“Should I?” he asks, looking genuinely uncertain.
You stare at him for a beat, then dramatically slap a hand over your mouth.
“Chronically early and chronically offline?” you gasp. "We've got a rare case here."
Jake laughs, and the motion sends a few loose strands of hair falling across his forehead. Your fingers twitch, resisting the ridiculous urge to brush them back in place.
“You make it sound like a condition.” he chuckles.
You raise your eyebrows, mock-serious. “It is a condition. I’m pretty sure you qualify for observation.”
"Chronically offline?" Jake repeats, furrowing his own brows.
"Oh no." you say, mock-horrified. "It's worse than I thought."
He laughs again, and oh. That’s when it really hits you, just how down bad you were. Because apparently, all it takes is one laugh to completely short-circuit your brain. “You’re making it sound like an actual medical condition.”
“It is,” you say solemnly. “I diagnosed you just now. You’ve got stage four meme deficiency.”
Jake grins and leans forward, elbows resting casually on the table, closing the distance just enough to make your pulse stutter.
“Is there a cure?” he inquires, playing along.
“Lucky for you, I’m the internet incarnate. Stick with me and we’ll fix you up in no time.” ypu smirk, lips quriking up at the corners.
“Good,” he says, and his eyes catch yours, lingering a second too long, like he’s testing the waters.
“I think I’m ready for treatment.”
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁༉‧₊˚.
The weeks pass by like pages in a physics notebook – messy, a little chaotic, and filled with things only the two of you would understand.
You start calling it Meme Therapy. Jake calls it “physically and emotionally enlightening.”
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁༉‧₊˚.
WEEK ONE
Jake is sitting in his usual spot with two coffees. He sips on one of them, extending the other shyly towards you as you approach the table. “I figured this might be part of my treatment plan.”
You thank him before accepting it.
“Caffeine and mild chaos?”
“Exactly.” he confirms, his eyes twinkling.
You sit in front of him again, scrolling through your shared Google Doc titled Chronically Offline: Jake’s Guide to Surviving the Internet.
There’s a new section waiting for you: Eras, Vibes and Cores Explained (A Visual Guide) – complete with wildly inaccurate frogcore diagrams and a chaotic collage of TikToks Jake clearly does not understand.
You turn your laptop screen towards him, pointing to something on the display.
He tilts his head, brow furrowed as he stares at a frog in a pink bonnet sipping a cup of tea on a brightly coloured mushroom.
“So… it’s giving frog?” he attempts, sounding defeated already.
You nearly choke on your coffee, laughing. “It’s giving amphibious excellence.”
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁༉‧₊˚.
WEEK TWO
The physics tutorial ends early, so you stay behind to show him a video called Italian Brainrot: A Cultural Awakening.
He watches in complete silence, eyes narrowed in focus like he’s analyzing experimental data, as ballerina cappunicca echoes dramatically over an AI-generated video of teacups in ballet slippers pirouetting across a spotlighted stage. Then comes the tung tung tung sahur family, seated in the velvet theater seats, watching the performance unfold. Finally, the crescendo: bombardino crocodilo. The crocodile-plane hybrid swoops in, spinning mid-air before crash-landing onto the stage in a pixelated explosion.
To be honest, even you have no idea what’s going on anymore.
You brace yourself for Jake’s reaction. Any second now, he’s going to laugh or look at you like you’ve lost your mind.
Jake turns to you, eyes wide and sparkling. “That’s… kind of brilliant. Like, chaotic resonance.”
You blink. “What?”
He gestures at the screen, still a little stunned.
“It shouldn’t work, but it does. It’s like constructive interference. Two completely unhinged things overlapping at just the right frequency to amplify each other.”
“You’re telling me bombardino crocodilo is like… a wave function?” you deadpan, still trying to wrap your head around the nonsense he just spewed.
He nods, totally serious. “Yeah. A beautiful one.”
You blink again. This man is not real.
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁༉‧₊˚.
WEEK THREE
You’re late today. When you walk in, Jake’s already claimed his usual seat, along with the one next to it. A sticky note sits on the desk in his slightly messy handwriting, Reserved for: Meme Consultant. Perks include coffee, memes, and my undivided attention.
“Careful. This is dangerously close to adorable.” you say with a smile while sliding easily into the chair.
“Is that a bad thing?” he asks, nudging your leg with his.
“Depends,” you respond, teasing. “What exactly are you trying to get out of this arrangement?”
He pauses, then smiles, eyes warm. “I think I’m developing an addiction.”
“To memes?”
He hesitates, just for a second, then smiles, his eyes softening. “To you.”
Your breath catches. You pretend to be very invested in opening your notebook, but your bright red cheeks are already giving you away.
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁༉‧₊˚.
WEEK FOUR
You’re working through a tricky problem together, seated side by side now instead of across from each other. His handwriting is a disaster, but his voice is steady as he explains something about vector fields.
You reach for the calculator just as he does. Your fingers brush, and you freeze, the sudden touch sending a rush through, gentle and thrilling all at once. The contact lingers longer than it should. The world seems to pause. His skin is warm against yours. It feels... right.
Neither of you pulls away.
Your heart stutters. His voice does too.
“Sorry,” he murmurs, eyes flicking to yours. “Guess you’re in my field.”
You arch a brow. “Magnetic, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, you really are.” he whispers, letting out a soft, breathless laugh.
It’s so quiet, you almost wonder if you imagined it.
Eventually, the bell rings. Neither of you move.
Something between you is shifting, and it is impossible to ignore.
But neither of you speaks it into existence, sitting in comfortable silencs, as if naming it might scare it off. It was still too new, too fragile to touch just yet.
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁༉‧₊˚.
The party is louder than you'd like and packed with people who major in shots, not physics.
You stay close to the kitchen island, sipping fruit punch from a red Solo cup and scanning the room for anyone familiar. Jake said he might come — heavy emphasis on might — because he's still “not sure how parties work,” to which you told him was “a pretty hot take from someone who was chronically offline.”
You’re about to check your phone when you feel a familiar presence at your side.
“I still don’t really peg you as a party person,” Jake says, suddenly there like a small miracle, all easy smiles and confidence. He’s ditched his usual flannel-centric fits (which you’ve secretly grown to love) for a dark, fitted button-down, left open just enough to reveal a glimpse of collarbone.
You blink. Not what you expected. But definitely not bad at all. He’s always looked good, but… damn.
You arch a brow, smirking. “Didn’t take you for someone who owned anything other than flannels.”
“Didn’t take you for someone who’s been thinking about what’s in my closet.” he fires back with a shit-eating grin.
You open your mouth, but nothing comes out. You’re caught off guard, and he knows it. You can tell by the way his smile lingers, looking proud of himself for short-circuiting your brain.
He takes the moment to allow his gaze to flick briefly over your outfit. Nothing scandalous, but a step outside your usual lecture-core comfort zone. You actually put thought into it. Even hoped it might get noticed. It was looking like it did.
“You look really good, by the way,” he says, a little softer now.
You blink, caught off guard again by his directness, and feel heat rise in your cheeks. You lift your cup like a shield, trying to play it cool. “Not bad for someone who only learned what 'rizz' meant last week.”
He chuckles, nudging you lightly with his shoulder. “Just trying to keep up.”
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁༉‧₊˚.
You and Jaka end up tucked into a quieter corner of the living room, talking about everything and nothing. Jake is leaning in closer than usual, his knee brushing yours, his eyes soft in a way that makes your pulse flutter. But you convince yourself that it must be because of the music, which was too loud to talk over without closing the distance between you.
Still, you can’t help your delusions from wandering, wondering if something might happen tonight.
Someone suddenly calls his name from across the room, snapping you out of your reverie. The classmate calls him again, already half-drunk and waving him over.
Jake glances at you, like he’s not quite ready to move.
“I’ll be quick,” he says, flashing an apologetic smile. “Promise I’ll be right back.”
You nod, trying not to let your disappointment show as he stands and disappears into the crowd.
You're left alone.
And it only takes a few minutes.
Someone else slips into Jake’s empty seat. It’s a guy you don’t recognize, all swagger and slurred confidence. He’s too close before you even realize what’s happening, leaning in with the heavy sway of someone who’s had a little too much to drink.
He’s not aggressive exactly, but there’s something about him that tightens your chest uncomfortably.
“You here alone?” he asks, smirking like you’ve already said yes.
Before you can respond, he leans in further and adds, “Wanna get out of here?”
His breath smells like beer and bad decisions. Your skin crawls.
“I’m good, thanks.” you laugh as politely as possible, standing up quickly to put space between you.
But he follows, pushing up from the couch with too much momentum. “Aw, come on, doll. Just a little fun. Don’t make me beg.”
You freeze, your smile slipping and heart racing warningly.
Then suddenly, a hand slides around your lower back, not quite touching, but providing comfort nonetheless. With it comes a familiar presence and an overwhelming relief of safety.
“There you are,” Jake says, materializing at your side like he’d been summoned. His tone is light, almost casual, but his eyes are steel. “Babe, we’ve gotta go. The livestream’s starting.”
Your heart pounds — from the pet name or the adrenaline, you’re not sure — but you nod, slipping into the role without hesitation.
“Livestream?” the guy blinks, thrown off.
Jake doesn’t miss a beat. His arm stays around you. You lean into his touch.
“Yeah." he says almost dreamily. "The Italian brainrot pasta review? The one where they slap spaghetti against drywall while the Tralalero Tralala remix plays?”
You cough into your drink to hide your laugh. Jake shoots a quick glance your way, a silent 'go with it.'
You nod seriously, slipping into the act with ease. “He’s right. If we miss it again, I’ll spiral and lose my shit. Last time, I cried. Full breakdown.”
“It was giving tragic.” Jake gasps dramatically, shaking his head with fervor.
The guy takes a step back, visibly confused. “Are you guys… okay?”
“We’re frogcore. It’s terminal.” Jake deadpans.
You both stare at the guy, eyes unblinking, doing your best impression of chaotic meme cultists.
The guy mutters something unintelligible under his breath and walks away.
The second he’s out of earshot, you both burst into laughter. Your shoulders are shaking, the tension snapping like a canned soda popping open. You lean into Jake further without thinking, and he doesn’t move away — just stays there, solid, safe, and warm beside you.
Relief floods your chest. You hadn't realized how tightly you’d been wound until now.
“Thank you,” you say, the weight of it folded between the words.
He looks at you, soft and serious beneath the grin.
“Anytime.”
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁༉‧₊˚.
You find yourselves on the front steps a few minutes later, away from the music and the buzz of the party. You were both ready to call it a night after that. Jake sits next to you, arms resting on his knees, smiling softly.
“That was the most cursed performance I’ve ever seen.” you chuckle, bumping your shoulder into his.
“I’m just relievee it worked so well.” Jake smiles, returning the action of endearment gently.
“I’m still speechless. I think you might’ve scared him into deleting his Instagram.”
“Nice,” he exhales slowly, but there’s something lingering behind the smile, a tension that hasn’t quite left him. “I just… I didn’t like how he was talking to you.”
You glance at him, and for a moment, he doesn’t meet your eyes.
“I know I’m not… great at this stuff,” he says, voice lower now. “But when I saw him – saw you and the way you were cornered, I couldn’t think straight. I was scared.”
He finally looks up at you, jaw tight with the memory. “Not that he’d hurt me. That he’d do something you couldn’t laugh off. That I’d be too late to stop it.”
There’s a pause, the air between you charged.
“But I knew I had to do something. Because I like you. And I couldn’t stand the thought of you not being safe.”
Your heart flutters at the honesty in his voice, rough with emotion and sincerity.
“I like you too, Jake.” you smile, soft and sure. “Even if your use of internet slang is objectively awful.”
He smiles, the kind that lights up his entire face, and pretends to be offended. “Hey, I’m improving.”
“Yeah, I can tell. You’ve gone from absolute zero to mildly impressive. That’s, like, a major thermodynamic shift.”
And before either of you can overthink it, you lean in to kiss him. It’s a little shy, but it’s real. He kisses you back, and you can feel his lips curving upwards against yours.
He blinks when you pull back, momentarily stunned, then breaks into that smile you’ve come to crave.
“So,” he says, sounding a little breathless. “Does this mean I’m officially online?”
“Welcome to the internet, Jake.”
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁༉‧₊˚.
The physics room looks the same as always: buzzing fluorescent lights, too much dust, and that faint smell of old carpet and blackboard chalk.
But it feels different now.
Jake’s already there, of course. He’s got a coffee waiting at your usual seat. There’s a new sticky note on your side of the desk, Reserved for: Meme Consultant + Girlfriend (hopefully).
“You’re really committing to the title, huh?” you say, plopping yourself down next to him.
Jake looks up from his notes, his face lighfing up at the sight of you. “I’ve decided to embrace my new era.”
“Which era is that?” you raise an inquisitve eyebrow, unable to suppress your own smile.
Jake pretends to think.
“Boyfriend-slays-with-vectors-core?” he offers.
You laugh, then steal one of his pens.
As you open your notebook, you find something tucked between the pages: a small printed meme. A pixelated frog in a physics lab coat, next to text that reads: My love for you defies Newtonian mechanics. It’s accelerating.
Your mouth hangs open in awe.
“I made it myself,” he says proudly. “Be honest. Is it giving?”
“You’re such a nerd.” you laugh, placing a kiss on his cheek.
“So you’re saying I’ve progressed to stage five?”
“Stage five of what?”
He taps the sticky note beside your coffee. “Terminally online. Emotionally attached.”
You smile, cheeks warming. “You’re hopeless.”
Jake shrugs, his grin widening. “Worth it.”

A/N: I’m back after a month of not posting (sorry lol) with a long fic to make up for lost time (yay) and to take our minds off of everything, really. When will I post my next fic, you ask? I don’t fucking know man, I’m just vibing. I do have a few ideas that I want to start, including a multichapter fic that will get written someday. Love you all, enjoy this pre-debut hozier fic💙
💙FULL FIC UNDER THE CUT💙
You needed a hobby, urgently. It was your second semester of your first year of university at Trinity College Dublin, and you had yet to find something to occupy your time that wasn’t studying, working, or just doing nothing with the group of friends that, despite your nervous and introverted nature, you had managed to form in your first semester. You were desperate for something new to do, a new skill or pastime to occupy you when all your friends were busy or simply when you felt like doing something other than hanging out with them.
The idea of learning guitar came to you after talking to one of your friends about your newfound need for a hobby, she mentioned that you had a great sense of rhythm and that you already really liked music, so why not pick up an instrument. She didn’t tell you to pick up guitar specifically, but it seemed like a good choice for learning in your spare time, and it’s not like you had the money to buy a keyboard or drums, much less a more classical instrument like a violin, a cello or a harp, and you already knew that you didn’t have the lungs for wind instruments.
You asked around your friend group if anyone had any suggestions for cheap guitars to buy, you got one that was moderately good and within your budget. You started to learn by yourself, the only thing was that you sucked, you barely understood the tutorials you found on youtube and didn’t even know if you were really doing it right, your fingers were sloppy and uncoordinated and you only angered yourself more and more with each note you got wrong. So, after two weeks and a half of frustration, you decided that maybe a guitar teacher wasn’t a bad idea, and that if that didn’t work you’d sell your guitar and pick up photography or something that didn’t require you to use your fingers as much.
It was Friday evening, and some members of Trinity Orchestra were having a small rehearsal/get together, and you knew your friend would be there since she was a pianist in the orchestra, so maybe she could help you learn guitar or at the very least find a teacher. You arrived at the get together when it was almost finished, you didn’t want to interrupt them, even if it wasn’t really a rehearsal, you felt out of place just by being there. Miranda, your friend, spotted you from her bench and beckoned you over to her, she’d been expecting you since you told her earlier that day that you’d go see her at the rehearsal, she was leaning on the closed piano, a half eaten bag of crisps sat on the cover of its keys. “I thought you’d come sooner, you missed the little concert.” She smiled.
“Nah, I’d rather not interrupt.” You smiled back, “anyway, what I wanted to talk about before you ran off today because of your horrible time manage skills-“
“-They’re not that bad, come on.” She pouted playfully, faking indignation.
“Bullshit.” You argued back, trying to hold in a laugh. “Now, do you know how to play guitar?”
“No, just piano, and the organ, kind of. Why?”
“I’ve been trying to learn how to play on my own but I can’t get the hang of it, I need a teacher or something.” You explained, trying to be quiet enough so that no one else would hear.
“Teacher for what?” A masculine voice asked from behind you, making you jump slightly in surprise. You turned around, a lanky guy with dorky glasses and a blonde fringe stood there, looking at you as he tried to guess who you were. “Have we met before?” He finally asked.
“I don’t think so,” you answered, a nervous smile on your face
“I’m Alex,” he smiled back to you, but his smile was more welcoming than anything else. You told him your name, and that you were a friend of Miranda, which prompted her to speak up.
“They’re trying to learn guitar,” she joined in. “Maybe you could help them?”
“Can’t, I’m drowning in coursework already, sorry,” Alex said earnestly, seeming genuinely sorry that he wasn’t able to help you learn how to play.
“Don’t worry about it, I’m sure I’ll find someone to teach me.” You assured him, relaxing a bit more now that you had spoken the slightest bit more to him.
“Andy could help you, though.” A smirk grew on his face, “he’s always looking for an excuse to not do his work.”
“Andrew’s a vocalist though isn’t he?” Miranda chimed in again.
“He does more things apart from singing, you know.” Answered Alex.
“I didn’t know he played guitar though, I’ve never seen him play it.” She argued.
He does! He’s self taught though, so his has this weird way of playing where he-“
“Sorry, but, who’s Andrew?” You interrupted, needing some clarification as to who they were talking about.
“Right, you don’t know who he is,” Alex chuckled, “he’s that one over there.” He said, pointing over to a group of about five guys all chatting while standing around a table.
“Which one?” You asked, still not knowing who to look at.
“The tall one.” Alex and Miranda said in unison. Your eyes focused on him, a pale, lanky guy with dark, shaggy curls on his head and a 3 day stubble on his face and neck, he was at least half a head taller than the second tallest man in the conversation circle. He was smiling, his cheeks a rosy tone from how much he’d been laughing, his front teeth were slightly crooked from what you could see from a distance, and you noticed a pair of glasses in his left hand as your eyes trailed down his body, you assumed that they were his glasses with how he was holding them so close to his body. He was so cute, you thought to yourself, a bit of a nerd maybe but it’s not like you weren’t into it as well.
“Andy!” Alex’s call broke your train of thought, and maybe that was for the best, who knows where you were going to end up with those. Andrew turned to look at Alex, noticing Miranda sat on her seat, and then you, you could’ve sworn you saw him look you up and down as a small smirk formed on his face. Alex moved his arm to call him over, and he approached without hesitation, quickly walking over to the little group you were in.
Alex introduced you to each other and quickly explained your situation to Andrew, who agreed to teach you. You agreed on payment, how many times a week you’d meet, the whole thing, really, and then you exchanged numbers.
“If you want we can meet up tomorrow and we can start with the basics,” he suggested, putting on his glasses as he put your number in his phone. Fucking hell, he looked adorable with them on, you felt your cheeks heat up as you looked at him.
“Yeah, that’d be good,” you agreed without thinking, “I’ll send you my address and we can meet at my place if you want.”
“Sure,” he looked at you with a small smile. You decided on a time to meet and then went home for the night after saying goodbye to your friend.
You felt a nervous knot in your stomach as you laid down in your bed, the worry of making a fool of yourself in front of a cute guy was catching up on you. You shook those thoughts off, putting on some faint music before finally going to sleep.
You woke up the next day, looking at the clock on your bedside table only to find that it wasn’t actually morning, but past noon, almost 1pm in fact. You got ready for the day and had what could best be described as a big brunch before deciding to clean your apartment before Andrew arrived later in the day, something that you only remembered when you saw a message from him confirming that he had your address right. Why did you agree to this again? You cursed yourself as you cleaned up the small space you lived in, it was an attic converted into a studio apartment that was way too cheap for how big it was, but it’s not like you were going to complain.
Time passed as you finished cleaning your apartment, having just enough time to shower before Andrew arrived. You had just finished dressing up when your phone rang, you picked up to find Andrew on the other side of the line, asking you to open since the doorbell wasn’t working, so, taking your keys in your hand, you ran downstairs to open the front door for him. He was carrying a guitar case and what you assumed was a small amp, he wore a very simple outfit, a shirt and jeans with a brown leather jacket and some old tattered converse, but no glasses. “I like the jacket.” You said while guiding him towards the elevator.
“Thanks,” he smiled shyly, “I brought my electric guitar, I hope you don’t mind, my acoustic one has a broken string and I still need to replace it.”
“It’s fine, mine is electric too.” You smiled back.
You went into your apartment, he commented on the fact that it was a studio, and on the absence of a sofa. “The TV’s over there so I usually just put all my pillows on my bed and use it as a couch.” You explained, pointing out the TV on the wall next to the bed. Andrew laughed to himself, he mumbled something under his breath that you thought sounded like “that’s so fucking cute”. He sat on your bed, taking out his guitar and tuning it without even plugging it in to the amp.
You took out yours, tuning it as well with an app on your phone. You and Andrew talked for a bit, making jokes and breaking the tension before he explained the basics of guitar playing to you. You listened attentively and asked questions about the things you didn’t understand, he was a great teacher so far, and you could honestly listen to him speak for hours, his voice was lovely, no wonder Miranda said he was mainly a vocalist.
The time came to finally plug in the guitars, yours was already plugged to your amp, you just needed to turn it on, which you quickly did while Andrew set up his, he plugged the amp to the wall, grabbing the cable to plug it into his guitar, he wasn’t paying much attention to it though, his mind was somewhere else. While his head was, in fact, pointing down towards the guitar, his eyes were mostly looking up at you through his brows, using his curls as a shield so you wouldn’t notice him staring. His hand faltered, the jack circled the plug it was supposed to go in, making some magnetic noises come from the amplifier, you smiled at his dorkiness, finding it adorable. “Trouble putting it in?” You asked, not fully realising the other possible meaning of the question until it was already out of your mouth, he looked up at you with a quizzical look before you both burst into laughter at the question.
“I’m good, thanks,” he said between laughs, getting the jack into the plug once he finally stopped looking up at you. “‘trouble putting it in,’?” He echoed your words with a lovingly mocking tone, trying not to laugh again.
“I wasn’t thinking!” You tried to defend yourself while suppressing more laughter.
“Clearly,” he giggled.
The real, practical, lesson finally began, you spent the next hour and a half learning to play a couple chords and how to transition between them. It was hell, your hands were oddly shaky and very uncoordinated, so you asked for a break before you threw your guitar out the window. “Tea?” You asked, already thinking about making some for yourself so you could have an excuse to wander your apartment for a bit.
“Sure, I’ll have whatever you have.” Andrew nodded, standing up and stretching a bit and walking over to your bookshelf.
You went over to the kitchenette to put the kettle on, your thoughts wandering to how Andrew looked, he was so pretty, and you were definitely embarrassing yourself with your horrible guitar skills, but he had to have expected that, right? You did tell him that you knew basically nothing about playing guitar after all.
He walked closer to you, leaning on the kitchen island. “You’re not as bad as you told me you’d be yesterday, you know.” He said with a kind look in his eyes.
“I’m not?” You asked as you turned to face him.
“Yeah, I mean, your fingers are a bit uncoordinated and all but that’s just getting the hang of it.” He explained. “You picked up the chords and their positions on the neck of the guitar pretty quickly, though, that’s a good sign.”
“Oh, well that’s good at least,” you chuckled, “I don’t know if I’ll ever get the hang of it, though, I have horrible hand-eye coordination.”
“It can’t be that bad, come on,” he scoffed playfully, walking over to you and almost-sitting on the counter closest to you
“It is.”
“I think your hands are just fine, you just need to practise, and maybe learning guitar will help when you do other things with your hands, it did for me.” He winked, you felt your face heat up.
“What other things?” You tilted your head to the side as you smirked.
“Just… things, you’ll see what I mean.” He chuckled, he pressed his thumb into his palm. His eyes looked you up and down slowly, but you pretended not to notice.
“Oh I’m sure.” You laughed.
The water boiled and you made the tea, you lost the track of time as your conversation went on, it was ever so slightly flirty, just some comments here and there that made you both blush coupled with a few lingering touches. You’d be lying if you said that you didn’t want to do more than just learn guitar with him, but you didn’t want to be too forward, so you waited.
/#/#/#/
You met with Andrew for guitar lessons every other day for the next four weeks, slowly improving on your skill while also getting to know each other more and more, to the point that you’d hang out with him even if you weren’t practising, you’d gone to the pub with him and a few more friends a couple times and would just randomly message each other every so often throughout the day just to check on one another. It was nice, and, even if your crush on him had only gotten stronger as the days passed, you were glad to have a new friend. He was so sweet and just the right amount of dorky nerd that you couldn’t help but love him, you only hoped he felt the same way about you.
It was a Saturday evening, Andrew had been over at your apartment since lunch, you’d started the lesson right after he arrived at 1 and it was now 6:30pm, he’d been teaching you a song, or more so trying to. It wasn’t even a hard one, your hands just were not collaborating today and both you and Andrew were growing increasingly frustrated.
You were standing next to your bed while Andrew sat down on it, the guitar was strapped around you, you were considering making it against the ground in frustration. “You look angry, darling.” He pointed out, his expression unreadable.
“I’m not,” you lied, “just frustrated, I don’t know why I can’t get it right.”
“Maybe your hands are just tired, rest a bit and try again later.” He suggested.
“No.”
“The guitar won’t leave if you stop playing for a second, you know?”
“I just want to get this part right, just to hear how it sounds and then I’ll rest.”
Andrew scoffed, the smallest smirk forming on his face, he rolled his eyes before standing up and walking over to you, his frame towering over yours. “Let’s hear it then.” He ordered.
You swallowed air nervously, slightly intimidated by the combination of his height and the more strict and dominant tone his voice had taken. Your fingers moved on the guitar, clumsily playing the song and restarting it every time you messed up a note. After a few failed attempts, he moved behind you, grabbing the guitar even though it was still on you.
He pushed himself flush against your back, his hands playing the instrument as if you weren’t there. You felt the vibrations of the guitar against your abdomen and his body against your back, and, thanks to your height difference, you could perfectly feel his crotch pressing against your lower back. You felt your face heat up and a few whimpers escaping your mouth as he played, and he was definitely getting a bit into it as well, thrusting his hips into you as the song went on, the worst part was that you weren’t even sure if he was doing it because of the song or to rile you up, but that was the effect it was having anyway.
He stopped playing before he got to the chorus of the song, taking the guitar off you before he finally stepped away. “Heard it. Now, rest.” He instructed, throwing himself back on your makeshift couch.
“What the hell was that?” You asked dumbfounded, a nervous chuckle escaped you.
“Sorry, I just… I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done that, it was weird.” He mumbled, his eyes focusing on your pillows instead of on you.
“I didn’t think it was weird,” you stretched the truth lightly, you had thought it slightly weird when he did that, but you also couldn’t ignore the burning between your thighs and you needed to know if he was feeling the same way you were right now. “You could’ve just taken the guitar off me, though.”
“It wouldn’t have worked, you would’ve gotten mad at me.” He bit his lip to fight back a smirk. “I wasn’t really thinking, anyway, and you said you wanted to hear how it sounded so… yeah.”
Your eyes wandered to his crotch for a second, he looked like he was at least slightly hard. Quickly focusing back on his face, you giggled and threw yourself on the makeshift couch next to him, you laid on your side, looking at Andrew with a small, loving smile on your face.
“What’s the smile for?” He asked, turning to his side so he could face you as well.
“Nothing,” you continued to smile. “It’s just funny that you’re kind of beating yourself up about it when I actually kinda liked it.”
“Oh?” His eyes widened for a second as he scooted closer to you. “And what about it did you like?”
“I like how the guitar felt against me. The vibrations of it, you know? I play so slow that I don’t usually feel them like… that.” You bit your thumb lightly, trying to appear a bit more innocent so he wouldn’t guess what you were really thinking about.
“Yeah, they’re nice,” he looked at your lips as well, then scooted even closer. “Anything else you liked?”
“Well… I liked how you felt… against me.” You admitted, only to see Andrew’s smile widening. His hand moved to your cheek, silently encouraging you to keep going. “I liked how you were thrusting against me, it felt nice.”
“Just nice?” He teased, caressing your cheek.
“It was kinda hot, too.”
“I thought so too, maybe we could do something about it?” He suggested, his hand moving to your hip.
You nodded weakly, your lips parting ever so slightly. Andrew lunged in to kiss you, his mouth crashing against yours as you kissed him back passionately. Slowly he moved to be on top of you as you kissed, his right leg moved between yours, pressing against your core. Your hips moved against his legs, desperate for any kind of release. His tongue darted into your mouth, exploring as it pleased while your hands tangled in his shaggy curls.
You deepened the kiss, it became sloppier and more desperate as the seconds passed by, Andrew pulled back, a string of saliva still connecting your mouths to each other’s. His breathing mirrored yours, ragged and irregular even as you tried to calm down slightly. His glasses were slipping off his nose, so, as one does, you moved your hand from his hair and adjusted them, making him chuckle softly. “I feel like a fucking teenager.” He laughed, leaning in to plant small kisses on your jaw and neck.
“You’re twenty-two, not that far from it.” You teased while quiet moans escaped your lips.
“Shut up.” He laughed, his kisses on your skin turning more demanding. His hands snaked under your shirt, slowly pulling it off you until he could finally throw it on to the floor. He grabbed your breasts, moving his face between them before starting to kiss and lightly bite them, you arched your back into him, more moans escaping you.
“Fuck! Andy… please,” you moaned loudly, he hummed against your chest.
“What is it, baby?” He asked with a wicked smile, looking up at you through the rim of his glasses. You whimpered and rubbed yourself against his leg as a response, making him chuckle once more. “So needy… I’ve been wanting you for a while, let me at least play a little before I ravage you.”
“Play faster, I want you now.” You whined again, pulling him in to kiss him. He happily obliged, kissing you back while his hands made quick work of your jeans.
Your jeans and underwear quickly joined the growing pile of discarded clothing on your floor, leaving you completely bare. Your hands moved from Andrew’s hair as he pulled away from your mouth, instead trailing kisses down your neck and collarbone once more, your touch moved to the hem of his shirt, pulling at the cloth to try and pull it off him already. He quickly caught onto that and pulled his own shirt and undershirt off himself, uncovering his torso. He was still as lanky and thin as he was with clothes on, but he was a bit fuller than you had imagined, the slightest bit of pudge gathering on his abdomen. Your gaze turned him slightly shy, his cheeks reddening as he looked away for a second.
“I know this probably isn’t what you imagined,” he said sheepishly, a nervous tone in his voice, “I’m s-“
“You’re so pretty,” you interrupted him, still staring at his body.
“You really think so?”
“Yeah, I do.” You smiled, your hands grazed his skin. “You’re very hot, too.”
“Flatterer.” He smiled back, leaning in to kiss you again. You felt goosebumps forming on his skin the more you caressed him.
“I would never, I’m only saying what I think.” You kissed him back.
He hummed happily into the kiss, his hand travelling lower and lower on your body until it reached your core. He gently caressed it with two fingers, smiling darkly when he felt just how wet you were. Slowly, he played with your clit, making you whimper and buckle your hips against his hand, silently begging for more. He obliged, moving to push two fingers inside you and making you gasp at the intrusion, he slowly pumped them in and out, his thumb moving to play with your clit.
“Is this something that playing guitar helps with?” You teased while trying to suppress your moans.
Andrew chuckled, his fingers quickening. “Yes, actually.” He kissed along your jaw. “It helps a lot, makes it easier to fuck you.”
You moaned more, holding onto him like a lifeline as he played with you. His lips moved to your neck again, leaving passionate kisses and hickeys as he memorised every inch of your skin. His movements quickened even more, his thumb playing with your clit in a way that made your legs shake slightly, his other hand grabbed your hip, his nails digging into your skin. You felt the all-familiar burning-white desire in your lower abdomen, your whines got more and more high pitched until they were nothing more than needy whimpers.
Andrew chuckled, pulling away from your neck to look at your face as you came undone before him. “That’s it, let go for me,” he whispered softly, his free hand now moving up to brush your hair away from your face. “That’s it, good girl. Let me feel you, baby, please.”
You felt something snap within you at his words, pure pleasure running through you as you came on his fingers, covering them with your essence. He smiled at your blissed out expression, taking it in as he fingered you through your orgasm. Once it subsided he pulled out his fingers and licked them clean as you looked at him, a moan escaping him as he finally tasted you.
“Fuck, you’re delicious, I’m going to fucking devour you next time.” He growled.
“Why not now?” You teased breathlessly, still recovering from your orgasm.
“Because I might explode if I don’t put my dick inside you right now.” He teased back, reaching into his wallet for a condom. “Can I fuck you now, baby? Or do you need to recover a bit more first?”
“Now, please.” You begged without thinking.
Andrew smiled at your eagerness, taking off his pants and underwear to reveal his cock, it was as long as you thought, or hoped, it’d be, somewhere above average that was still enjoyable, but his thickness surprised you, he was wider than you’d imagined. You felt your mouth watering. “You’re staring.” He said firmly, rolling on the condom, “does it scare you?” He asked, his tone a mixture of dominance and genuine concern.
“No.” You smiled, opening your legs more. “I was just a bit surprised.”
“A good surprise, I hope.” He smiled back, grabbing your legs and pulling you closer to him. You chuckled at his words.
“A very good surprise, yeah.”
You reached out to touch him once again, his hands catching yours and pushing them to be above your head. He held them in place with his left hand while his right travelled to your thigh, lifting it ever so slightly as he positioned himself between your legs. His cock brushed lightly against your core, making you both whimper lightly at the feeling, then, slowly, he pushed in. Your gasp matched his moaning, soft and quiet enough that it was almost whispered, he was pushing in slowly, making sure it wasn’t painful for you. He bottomed out after a few more seconds, his movements stopping as he let you get used to his size. He leaned in to kiss you, a slow, loving kiss that had you melting into his touch even more.
You moved your hips after a few kisses, signalling Andrew to move. He happily obliged, slowly thrusting in and out of you. Your moans filled the room, making a symphony with his. “You feel so fucking good, baby, oh my god.” He practically whimpered into your ear, interlocking his fingers with yours. His other hand held tightly onto your thigh, his grip almost bruising as he lost himself in you. You shook your hand free from his, moving it to his hair along with your other hand to pull him in for a kiss, muffling your moans.
“Faster, please.” You begged between kisses, Andrew growled in response, letting go of all his restraint. His pace quickened to a brutal one, pistoning in and out of you without a care in the world. Your hands moved down to his back, your nails leaving scratches as you neared your peak just from the feeling of his cock inside you.
He straightened up, getting a better view of you, completely blissed out and moaning like crazy, sweat making some of your hair stick to your face. His hand caressed your cheek lovingly, his thumb pressing on your mouth to pry it open. “Open up, baby.” He ordered, and you obeyed without hesitation. His thumb moved inside your mouth, pressing on your tongue. “Suck.” He added.
And you did, sucking gently on his thumb as a lopsided smile grew in his face. He whispered soft praises as he fucked you, his thumb thrusting slightly in and out at a gentle pace to contrast the one of his hips.
He moved your leg with his other hand so your ankle would be resting on his shoulder, changing the angle in just the right position so his pubic bone would hit your clit every time he bottomed out. Your moans got louder, or as much as they could since your sucking of his thumb muffled most of the noise. Andrew moaned too, quieter, softer moans that could only be audible between your own, but you loved every single one you could hear. You felt his cock twitch inside you.
You felt yourself getting closer and closer to the edge, your own hand moving to your clit to give you the extra friction you needed. Andrew pulled his thumb out of your mouth and moved it to your clit before you could reach it on your own, flicking it rapidly as he moved your leg off his shoulder so he could lean in to kiss you again. You moaned into his mouth and he moaned into yours, both of you nearing your respective climaxes, his cock twitched more inside you, his thrusting becoming erratic and uncoordinated. You felt the pure, unadulterated ecstasy threatening to explode within you once more, your hands moving once more to Andrew’s hair as he kissed you.
“Come for me, baby, come on, let me hear you again pet.” He moaned, pulling back slightly so he could see your face as you came undone below him. “So fuckin’ pretty, come on, love.”
You came under him not long after, pure pleasure flowing through you as your body shook with your orgasm. But Andrew didn’t stop, chasing his own release as his thrusts became even more irregular than before, and, just as you were starting to feel the overstimulation taking over, he came, releasing his spent into the condom and stopping his movements almost completely, savouring the feeling of your walls around him. He moaned loudly, his head going back slightly as his eyes closed and his jaw slacked, you grinned slightly, recognising his current expression as the same one he did when playing a more upbeat guitar solo.
After a few more seconds, you both calmed down, and Andrew leaned in to kiss you once more, slowly and lovingly this time. You kissed back, your bodies still entangled with each other as you savoured the afterglow of your lovemaking. Carefully, and despite how much neither of you wanted that, he pulled out of you, detaching himself from you so he could take off the condom and throw it out. “I’ll be back in a second, stay put.” He murmured before giving you a quick kiss and walking towards your bathroom.
He came back not long after with a damp washcloth in hand, cleaning you up slightly before helping you sit up on your bed. “I should go to the bathroom,” you pointed out.
“Yeah,” he agreed, “go on, I’ll wait here for you.”
You smiled lovingly, getting up and into the bathroom, coming out of it a few minutes later after refreshing yourself. You found Andrew laying on your bed, having put his boxers back on while you’d been washing up. He smiled at the sight of you, opening his arms for you to cuddle into, and that you did, crawling into your bed and hugging him tight. He played with your hair as you cuddled, talking about random things before you decided to be a bit cheeky. “Did you know you have the exact same face when playing guitar that you do when you cum?”
“Shut up,” he laughed, “…do I really?”
“Yeah.”
“Is it at least a nice face or do I look like an idiot?” His face reddened ever so slightly.
“I think it’s a very pretty face, just like your normal one.” You assured him honestly.
“Thank god.” He laughed again, holding you tighter to him. “Can I stay the night?” He added, a hint of uncertainty and pleading in his tone.
“You better stay.” You smiled, nuzzling your face into his chest.
Andrew smiled back, burying his face in your hair and taking in your scent.

Progress Checkup! (Aug. 2024) | Scratchin' Melodii Devlog
Tumblr media
Hello again, strangers! I thought it was about time to add another devlog again! This time I'm trying out a more in-depth approach to this, to somewhat make up for the lack of gameplay previews. Let me know what you think!
For starters, I've revamped the rhythm system 🤯 (like... again! 🤯) Don't freak out, though. Surface level gameplay-wise, it works mostly the same as it did in the last demo, so you won't have to re-learn much. I just needed to redo some things so it'd be easier for me to work with in the long-run while developing the rest of the game. Way less headaches await me now when working on new levels. In the process, I was also able to incorporate some neat new aspects to it and make the core aspects of it better. If you're familiar with older rhythm games, it's now a tad closer to what the dog was doing.
Tumblr media
The opponent's icon has been covered up to avoid spoilers. I might be updating all of the character icons soon, actually.
I still plan to revamp the game's tutorial at some point. Something I've noticed is that often, new players don't seem to understand the purpose of the beat dots. Initially, I thought the idea that "on the beat dot = on beat" would come as second nature to new players without need for explanation. However, I hadn't considered that many players are likely to be more familiar with rhythm games that don't even have beat dots in this manner, so they're probably inclined to focus more on getting as close as possible to matching the order of the suggested inputs, and in this game, even at the cost of being off-beat if they aren't keeping up. So, I think the most important thing I need to emphasize when I give a new in-game explanation of the mechanics is the beat dots and really getting new players into the mindset of prioritizing the tempo. I think I should also have the tutorial's gameplay portion try to discretely get the player used to the control scheme to help people who haven't particularly memorized where all of their controller's buttons are without looking. This'll probably result in the tutorial song shown in the demo being replaced in the full game. I do still like its instrumental though, so maybe that will be repurposed for another game feature, at least.
Tumblr media
There's probably some guy out there who just REALLY loves Astral Advisory as the tutorial song that will be very upset to hear this. In solidarity with them, I've depicted their enthusiasm with this rather silly image I've created.
As for other levels, now that I've got the updated rhythm system up and running, the 3rd rival battle of act 2 is almost complete. If you didn't like the Pow-Notes in Supastar Tennis, you might not like me very much after this! So far, I think this level has some of the best and most ambitious animation work I've done yet, so I hope you'll look forward to it. Not sure when I'll show a gameplay preview of this level, but I probably will at some point.
Tumblr media
Also, I've made a new logo for the game! I'll gradually be phasing this one in to replace the old one, but until the full game releases you'll probably still see the old one hanging around too in some places.
Tumblr media
That's all I can talk about for now, but thanks for reading! - LJ

GOD IS GOOOOOOODD 🤭 GOD IS GOOOD!! BOOM SHACKALACKAAA cause in this situation I devour yiur leech twins art AND THERE PARENTS GOD DAMN
ANYWAYS DO YOU HAVE ANY CUTE OR SMALL DETAILS YOU HAVE EVER DRAWN IN ANY OF YOUR ART PIECES?! Its my fav thing to see or figure out about artists to see if they added any cute or small details or acessories as extra parts! Continue to work and draw hard! I aspire to be as awesomesauce like you!!
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAA TYSM LOVE 🥹 u are freaking AWESOMESAUCE the way that you already are right now
i wish i could say that i have a special quirk…but im unfortunately kind of a boring person 😓…
maybe i can interest you with patterns i have while drawing and what i consider when drawing specific characters?
while i draw:
-can i be honest? i have no idea what i’m doing. when i render hair (especially if im faded) its like i blink and then i did all of it. don’t know how i did it, i couldnt give a tutorial if i tried
-i like to add saturated red lines randomly to everything! i know there are rules to this, but when it comes to my art i sort of yolo everything (i really shouldn’t). does it look good or does it look bad when i place it here? thats really the only question i consider, but usually it’s in areas where i notice the coloring is repetitive, and it needs an outline to make it pop.
-twst taught me this first, but i really like adding a light blue to where a dark shadow will be. for example, in hair (for the back of it) i like to add a lighter blue instead of darkening the shadow, imo, it makes it less repetitive and pop out more
-my favorite (well, i hate actually doing them, it takes ages) types of pieces when i finish them, are the ones with multiple poses of a character and then a chibi interaction! like with jade’s halloween outfit, i envisioned floyd helping him get his hair done, waking up at the crack ass of dawn (tired as fuck)
-my artwork is very blue… i just love using blue most of the time. for the saturated color laying overtop an already blue toned black dress? yeah it’s gonna be blue. the back of the hair? light blue. i just feel like it’s the easiest color to use for shading 💀
-i don’t usually draw a white dot to represent light in the eyes. the only reason i specifically talk about this is because i TRY. i always try adding a white dot and no matter what i don’t like it. no clue why
-i rarely post line-art/sketches (in comparison to my fully rendered art), this is because i fix EVERYTHING when i render. the anatomy, the hair, the posing. i can’t see my mistakes until it’s halfway done in full color and almost completed shading 😓
-(random complaint): i’m noticing a problem where the colors seem super saturated in procreate and then it just becomes really dulled down when i post it…idk whats wrong with my eyeballs
character design:
-for leech mom: i really try to balance her sexy, scary side with her cute, bubbly mom side. when i first made her, i never even considered making a leech dad. i just thought, “jade and floyd’s mom would probably be super hot…” and that’s how she was made ^^. pearls are always a must on her, i think in every piece i have of her so far she’s wearing pearls in some way. the idea of her that i always go in with when i draw her is that she’s supposed to come off as someone that would converse very cheerily, have an upbeat attitude, but you there’s something that intimidates you about her… she gives off: will smile kindly while tearing your heart out
-jade and floyd: i like to give jade a darker blue palette than floyd! maybe my eyes decieve me, but i always feel like jade’s hair looks a darker shade of teal… i could be tripping. also, i do try to take into account most times that jade has broader shoulders and floyd is slightly taller! this is just a random tidbit lol, it never affects much really. also, i do make them more muscular whenever i draw them. i know they’re lanky and i love them the way that they are but it’s just a personal preference (along with the fact that they both eat very well and are extremely active? like….) i also prefer drawing their teeth larger
-leech dad: i’m glad i came to the current design of leech dad, but i was freaking looooost when i redesigned him. the first time i made him, i hated it while drawing it. it was more of a, “whatever i drew the mom now i have to draw the dad..”. but now, i can say with 80% confidence i’m happy with the way he is. he was supposed to be more of a navy, but that navy is now mixed with tones of purple, because i can’t move the slider more towards cyan, he’ll just end up looking like leech mom. he had to also be cool toned, his kids have teal hair, so he can’t diverge from that too much right? it’s be weird if he had mostly warm tones in his palette… the things i think about when designing leech dad are: expensive (same with leech mom), old money, hot but slightly psycho looking face, looks like he has a hobby of collecting watches, but surprisingly a guy that’s not extremely moody (cough his wife and son) and well tempered
both him and his wife are giants. i hope that i properly convey that as well 🤣

-《Things that bothered me about spirituality/witchcraft when i first started and why》 + Manifestation explained (& advice for people with BPD/simular sympoms)
If uninterested- thats alright, i put the cut here so you can scroll easly [5 min read]
General:
BIASES AND STEROTYPES!
[1] for a long time, I only asosiated witchcraft or any kind of spirituality with scamming, lies, manipulation and psycosis. ESPECIALLY because of misinformation.
And a thing id like to mention— Imagine group A and B. Group A has a lot of misinformation about it & is usually peaseful and kind. Group B is agressive, pissed off and shows hostility and utter loathing to anyone who even supports A.
Who do you think is less intimidating to agree with as someone who's afraid of others' opinions/uneducated? You have a choice between a) harassment and maybe even threats— or b) you're not afraid of others' opinions and you dont have to be afraid of group A's threats, because you're with them.
NOT TO MENTION those who are most swayed by people who are VERY passionate about what they're saying (EVEN MORE SO people who have a strong sence of justice) -BPD, ASD or truma about not receiving justice.
Manifestation wise:
What bothered me is the feeling of watching videos about it and many content creators not having a personality.
It felt like a scam imediety, because of that and how lacking of effort every single one was (same things said word-for word)
• Its a belief that you genuenly follow— yet i see none of that deep, deep love and connection to it
It all felt like a "life hack tutorial" more than bringing how staying hopeful and positive -> can hwlp you give your life more of those little things that bring you joy- Or even just help you be more confident in yourself. Because it is also a way you reassure yourself–the job interview will go well, how you won't look like an idiot on the first date. You'll find a little bouch of trinkets/money on your way back home.
Doesn't work? Probably didn't believe in yourself - and that's ok. It's a skill to work on, and you have all the time in the world
So how do i work on something like that?
Simple- just change the name! Call manifestation "wishing" like i did before realising i was doing it all these years since i was a kid <:]
Really though- one time i wished "the bad guy whos was super fast in the car for no reason" has his car explode (thinking of the tires i mean- i was a kid with a strong sence of justice lol) [also yes im both previously mentioned categories]
And 4 years later, the same cars' tires pop (the driver was ok tho phiew)
Also- when you're comfortable completely change it up and just call it manifestation. Process how its the same thing- but different word. All that positive asosiation helps
Remember to not use it on every single thing imaginable. It takes a lot of time, effort (especially at first) & energy. You can regret what you wished later on—
So i urge you to please take time to decide what you wish for. Especially in anger. You know deep down you'll regret it. Only people who feel weak and powerless because of that -> feel threatened at the idea of holding back their emotions again. Trust me, you'll process it later, and you won't feel powerless forever. I've been there.
I manifest whoever was just like me at the start openmindedness, and to keep my advice to heart
Love you angry, missunderstood people

[Part 2]
INTRO: From Skyrim to Destiny, recording your own footage of various games is the best method of making your own gifs.
The reason for this is myriad;
+ less artifacting vs YT vids, as seen below
Tumblr media
+ you’ll have more control over the content + you can have personal characters + you can alter the settings of the game to be better for gif making purposes
While this tutorial does walk you through most of the steps it is light on exactly/why I use various adjustment layers for coloring, mostly because tumblr began to block my images/links. Other folks have tutorials but I can make one if its something people want.
But the real purpose of this tutorial is to cut the time it take to make gifs down by just opening your file vs. screencaping and so on.
1. Select your game and edit game settings for gif making.
Because we are using OBS, and recording the screen and not the game itself(more on this later), what game you are playing matters little.
Other paid programs like FRAPS still work, as do some free programs like Afterburner/RivaTuner, but when it comes to multiplayer, some may be caught by various anti-cheats and shut down. (ESO will not launch if afterburn is already open, for example). OBS has simply been my go to for around seven years.
Settings.
Please feel free to play around with your game settings to find what works, you may even play a game on different settings from what you record footage under. I do not play with DOF settings on in games but do record with them on.
Dropping your screen-size from and being able to turn on ultra vs medium settings may make your gifs look much better as another example.
+ At least 30FPS, try to avoid stuttering, lower the settings if needed. + Avoid crushing of blacks or blown out whites, especially when giffing POC! Adjust brightness and gamma as needed, HDR isn't your friend here. + While dark nights maybe more realistic and challenging for you, it often produces a dark gif in which nothing can be seen. + Turn off motion blur and film grain, these both add needless file size and look off when scaled down in photoshop. If you want grain add some after. + 720p is about as low for footage as you want to go unless making gifs for very old games. Work with what you have with old games. + Using mods and things like reshade can make your game shine.
Example time; ENB only on top, heavily modded on bottom, no adjustments were made in photoshop.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Modding can really alter a game.
Skyrim is very famous for it, but everything from Mass Effect to Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous have visual mods! They can make your footage stand out immensely, they can make your FPS drop, or even make it better.
Please be respectful of mod authors. As someone who made them in the past, we are not content farms, we are just folks with a fun hobby like gif making!
I highly suggest any mod that removes screen blur, vignette and film grain!
2. Camera Tools (optional)
So you have your game, now it's time to learn what camera tools exist, if any, for your game. Many games like Rogue Trader and Dragon Age, have free camera mods. Some games like Bethesda games and some Mass Effects, have built in, or partially built in fly cams.
I used to back in the day before DA:O had camera tools back myself into a corner and swing the over-the-shoulder camera around to get gifs, so you have to work with what you have.
If you want to go the paid route there are plenty of camera mods available from assassin’s creed games to BG3. These are generally of better quality and work smoothly, but check around for reviews before you dish out your hard earned money!
Each of these tools will have different commands that you will have to learn.
3. Obtain OBS & set it up
Why OBS?
It's free, it uses very little of your computer's resources. OBS also allows you to switch between screen recording, what I always use, and recording a specific program. Many other recording programs will not record some very old games, some can't record specific games.
Add to that, some hardware recording software will not record shadows or can get light values wrong and you are fighting a battle game after game. So I just go for what's free and works consistently.
I've only known one person for whom OBS failed to work, and that I think was a version issue.
Install OBS, and then make a specific scene all the way on the left;
Tumblr media
You can rename this or duplicate it if you also intend to stream(right clicking scene will bring up the menu to do so), I don't use OBS when streaming so I leave this as is.
Right click on the source and ensure it is set as Display Capture. Because some, especially older games, won't work with Game Capture you are going to record the screen. Double click Display Capture if you have multiple screens(I have 2) and select which you want to record!
Next we need to go into settings, over there on the right under Controls. Once in settings, go down to Video and keep the base and output values whatever your actual display size is. I have a 1440 display so it's set to 1440, if you are running 720 make sure it's 720 and so forth.
Ensure 30fps is chosen. Anything more is overkill, for both photoshop and your rig!
Tumblr media
Next go to Hotkeys. This will be different if you are using OBS to stream as well, but because I am not, I cleared everything but the recording hotkeys and I assigned them to scroll lock. This is because I've yet to encounter any game or mod that uses the key for anything. Use what makes sense for you, however.
Tumblr media
Finally make your way to Output, this is important. Ignore streaming, look at Recording.
Tumblr media
+ Pick a folder you want to save in + pick indistinguishable quality, large file size. + Pick MP4+ which encoder you use is up to your system! This is the one that made sense for me and my system. There are tons of videos on YT that go over each encoder. Also here https://obsproject.com/kb/audio-video-formats-guide is the official guide. We need to be able to open the file in photoshop so I tend to lean toward H.264.
3. Test OBS and your game footage together!
Go into your game, record a menu!
If you see something weird here, like your game footage not actually recording, troubleshoot!
With your recording you shouldn't see any stretching.
Now go into game and for 3-5 seconds record you playing, if something isn't recording well, again, troubleshoot. OBS takes a small amount of resources but for older rigs you may need to adjust settings in either game or OBS to get better recordings.
Once you are comfortable, it's time to go wild!
4. Record your gif footage.
+ 5 second clips are best for scenery gifs, + anything from 2-10 seconds can be used for a character talking + anything more than 10 seconds? You'll hit tumblr's limits instantly and will need to make multiple gifs. Which isn't a big deal, but do make note of it as it is much harder for older rigs to open a 5 min 1440p recording than 10 seconds. Depending on the rig it may not even open, so try and make several recordings rather than one long one.
5. Photoshop set up if you pirated an older version
If your gifs look weirdly stretched, check pixel ratio! If your photoshop is legit, or you know that it isn't stretching your gifs wildly you can skip this step.
I don't care how you obtain photoshop, but photoshop has had the ability to open MP4 videos for nearly 15 years. You do not need to, and I do not encourage you to use any screencapping software. That's great for long-form videos, but my computer 12 years ago could open a 5min music video fine and it was a potato.
Often photoshop 'portable' aka pirated photoshop comes with some wild settings, namely, pixel ratio changes. Please check this first;
Tumblr media
And look at what default is actually set at, if your gifs always look stretched oddly when uploaded to tumblr.
It should be 1:1.
Then look at,
Tumblr media
Again set it to square! Newer photoshop, and non-pirated versions often will let you look at other aspect ratios but won't save weirdly. so 2:1 will still save to 1:1, this hasn’t always been the case with cracked photoshop, especially the version from around 2014.
6. Open
Tumblr media
Either drag in all your videos, or just... file → open.
This is why you saved as 5 seconds and MP4, so you didn't need any extra steps!
++Please be aware that older/weaker rigs and laptops can struggle, and if you are seeing crazy hot temps and such its an issue. Seeing Photoshop pause to open/play an action is normal but not chugging. I tell you this so you remember to dust your case and give your hardware some love, fiddle with settings and if this straight up doesn't work with your version of photoshop it might not be for you.
7. Crop your videos
Once you have your video/s open, select the crop tool. (it should be right here in the default setup. or Simply press C on newer Photoshops)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step 1-  in the far left box you want to select Width by Height and then type what size you want to crop to. Height Matters little but Width does matter.
Here are tumblr’s current 2024 sizes again!
Tumblr media
10mb is the max, anything more will have a new compression algorithm applied to make it under 10mb.
Please look at the sizes closely. I'll give you an example! Lets say you make your widest gif 1000 pixels, a common wrong size.
Tumblr media
I could only fit 20 frames in this bad boy, and its squished, despite the saving compression used, tumblr eats the quality to make it pixelated/artifact-filled.
Compare that to this, 66frames
Tumblr media
Slightly different cropping but you get the point.
Same thing with using 540px in the 268px spot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Compare it to the gifs below which is a 4.83mb 133 frame image in the 268 spot. see how it's less pixelated?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now back to that Image. Lets talk about... Step 2. Select a range from within the image, try to avoid going to the edges, otherwise you get a 1 pixel wide transparent line. It's hard to see on some blogs, and so obvious on others. Mobile users won't likely see it, but it does take a slight amount more file size as well.
Tumblr media
This is what I mean.
Step 3. Time is money, friend. And by this I mean I am going to provide you with the means to skip a TON of steps in the gif making process and just use my action, I'm even going to help you figure out how to fix it when it fails. For the low price of free. If you want the how to, I can break down what all the action is doing, but I haven't even thought about these steps in about 8 years or so.
PART 2 THIS WAY
(because tumblr hates more than 30 images)

Do you have any tips for drawing? Anything really
Well, "any tips for drawing" is rather vague, so I'll just offer some general advice for now, which is more about how to learn and improve than how to draw any specific thing. If you'd like some more specific advice, though, I'd love to help where I can!
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Use references when you're stuck on something! No artist is ever "too good" to use references when they want to draw a particular thing better. References can be photos or other artists' art (ideally with credit depending on how closely your art resembles the original), though I don't use the latter much because trying to copy another artist's style typically doesn't work as well as just keeping the inspiration in the back of my mind and going with the flow.
Speaking of that, finding an art style is a gradual thing, from what I've experienced. To me, it seems to be a thing that develops over time as a result of how different artists solve different problems. You don't have to stress about getting any one "style" with your art; just focus on solving problems with your drawings, and it'll develop its own unique look by virtue of you being a unique person and consciously or subconsciously adding new things to the solutions you find. If you are looking to emulate a specific style, try to pick one that solves problems you have with drawing or (to go off the previous point) appeals to what you enjoy, or perhaps what specific genre of art you plan to do.
To go further, Always look to solve problems. If you're struggling to draw a particular thing, try to figure out what specific part of the drawing is challenging for you, and look for ways to improve on that aspect. If you realize you struggle drawing hands — or even more specific, you struggle drawing hands in dramatic poses where the fingers are curled — for example, set the goal to find a method to draw hands in those kinds of poses, then relax. I usually find a solution to these kinds of problems within days of setting the goal, and I don't even have to search super hard. In fact, sometimes more comfortable methods of drawing certain things just pop in my mind!
Save any tutorials or references you find especially helpful! I like to bookmark YouTube tutorials I like, as well as the blogs or websites of any artists whose work I find inspiring. I also have a HUGE Pinterest board with tons of tutorials on drawing all sorts of things, so that definitely helps!
This is perhaps one of my biggest tips: try to get in tune with your "artist intuition" in a sense. Recognize what things you already do and don't like to draw, not just in the subject, but the general process you use to think about and draw an image, what parts of said art process you enjoy the most (line art, coloring, shading, sketching, etc.), and what kind of art you want to make in the future or what purpose you plan to use your art for. I've found understanding these things about myself really helps figure out which art tutorials will be more or less useful, and which art styles/processes feel comfortable to me. This is not to say you should never seek to improve, but rather, look for a means of improvement that fits your natural drawing preferences and habits. Maybe the Loomis method isn't the easiest way for you to visualize the human head, and another method works better. As long as you get the result you want, the process can be tailored to fit you specifically, even if that means using a process that's obscure or even exclusive to you.
You will never be perfect, and can never stop improving. So don't worry so much about making sure you're "good enough" to draw the ideas in your head. I know it can be worrying to think you aren't skilled enough in certain aspects to bring your ideas to fruition, but because you can never stop improving, if you need to be "good enough" before you can draw the things you love, you'll be waiting forever. So don't bottle up your ideas just because you think they won't turn out very professional. Instead, just do your best in the moment and note what you can get better at afterwards. And worst-case scenario, you can always come back and redraw the idea once you've improved.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Okay, well, this was the stuff I could think of so far right now. I hope this helps!

Okay so the dichotomy between your Sakuya Cherry Bomb idea and Yarra's Kuro vtuber is hilarious to me because like.
Sakuya: Fans only know him as Cherry Bomb and don't know anything about him outside of his music.
Vs
Kuro: Vtuber Lore is literally just his life but it should be fine because people dont know vampires are real.
I FUCKING FOUND IT. LINK TO THE CHERRY BOMB POST 🍒💣
Anyway one of the reasons for the difference is I headcanon Sakuya as being a 90s kid! as in, he died in the 90s--
This, naturally, makes him a lot more wary about the info he puts out there on the internet, but it also means his internet experience was molded by Ye Olden Days when creators were a lot less available to their fanbases and interacted with them very little, if at all.
He doesn't even have a fanart hub, and his icon is just a random street in tokyo he thought looked nice.
His classmates REALLY do not get why Sakuya is so paranoid, so Sakuya shows them how easy it would be for a super dedicated person to figure out exactly where Mahiru’s apartment is using his cooking tutorial videos (uploaded under the channel name "Sunny Mama" courtesy of Kuro) and basic realtor research
Things like Mahiru apologizing for any construction noise and using the time stamp to figure out which apartment complexes had construction in their vicinity during that time, floor plans, how even his living situation and the model of his appliances can all be used to narrow down the area he lives in.
“He lives with his uncle and the camera man, which means at least two rooms. We can see the stove top and the front of the oven, so I take a screenshot of that and… Ah, this is the brand. Now I research the model. Okay, I have two components. He mentions that he walks to school, so that’s a two bedroom apartment in Tokyo within walking distance of a high school with good quality appliances, which means I can rule out a lot of run down complexes. This grocery bag was in frame during this video, and a high school kid Mahiru’s age wouldn’t have a license, so now I add that name of the store to my list of things I know are around the complex because when you go grocery shopping, you don’t want to carry the bags a long distance home…”
The faces of his friends are full of horror.
"And that’s not even getting into the drinking with uncle segment that happens in their living room, with full view of the balcony because Mahiru hates the place getting musty so he leaves the curtains open a lot. Knowing what buildings are viewable from there can also tell someone where a place is, especially if you’re thorough enough to consider the angle you’re seeing everything at.” Sakuya glances up and closes his laptop. “So, yeah.”
Mahiru makes a Noise, fretting, "Wait, so what do I do now??"
Sakuya feels a little bad for scaring his friend, but it's for his own good! “Keep your curtains closed, make sure the screws in your door frame are the really long kind to prevent someone from just kicking the door off its hinges, don’t get electronic locks because it’s stupid easy to trick those into unlocking, and just… Be more careful? Wear a mask from now on and go back and edit footage to remove your face from the visible shot. Try and keep things focused on your hands instead, maybe…”
"Should I get rid of the drinking with uncle part? Since that always focuses on Uncle Tooru's reactions..."
"He’s a grown up and an old man. Nobody’s going to be interested in pulling him into a windowless white van unless it’s those creep show friends of his…”
"Wh--Why would anyone be interested in pulling me into a windowless white van?!"
"Sex trafficking."
"Eh?"
"Or stealing your organs."
"Eh?"
“Or even just some obsessive pervert who’s built up some kind of fantasy in their head that you’re fated for one another but you just don’t realize it yet.”
"What."
As you can tell. Yeah. Sakuya really internalized those 90s internet safety psas. He's also well acquainted with the idea of a very dedicated stalker for. Reasons.
Tsubaki voice: that boy just isn't right...

Your art is amazing! I keep finding myself just going back to stare at your work. Like how did you do that with the colors? Or when do you stop adding bold lines and do more implied ones etc.
Do you have any go-to references or tips you always go back to or would recommend?
THANKYOU!! OHHHH ART QUESTION!!!! *cracks knuckles* i havent ever really explained how i do things before, so dont be shy to ask any follow up Qs if i dont make sense!
——————
Colors??? Ohhh man, aeh, thats a fun but hard one. I started off my art years ago with just pencil on paper, black n white style! So ive gone on my own little self taught journey over the years when it comes to using actual color in art and ohh boyyyy was it a challenge.
Theres definitely some tutorials out there that explain color theory waaayyyyyy better and are more helpful than me, but ill still explain it my way for anyone whos curious about the way i use colors instead <3
At first i was pretty bad, SO for example IF I WAS PAST ME..... and i drew a purple dragon, the lighting and background id add would be purple too. Thats bad. It looked good, yes...... But it wasnt the smartest choice of lighting/background to make it so similar to the purple character id drawn.
I couldnt really see what i was drawing because everything was the same color, same saturation. It makes present me cry a little inside that i used to do that xD and i had to figure out that overtime... i didnt want whatever i was drawing to blend in to the canvas, disappear, and be really hard to see because it was all the same shade/color.
SO, i experimented >:) i have a vague goal in mind when it comes to colors. I want things to be clear to see, colors to contrast and pop and flow! If your focal point/character is blue? I try to make the background the complete opposite color, or something that compliments blue like pink or orange.
BUT!!!! BUUUUUUT!! Its not as simple as that... it can look terrible if you pick an opposite color and itll clash in the worst way possible >.> THAT, im admittedly still figuring out as i go! But ive learned that when the colors are too bright and clashing, i can reduce the saturation/make them less bright. Perhaps if i used pastel colors instead? Or something closer to grey? Maybe if i darkened this one and lightened that one theyll still stand out but also flow a bit better.
I rely heavily on my gut feelings with colors too, ill test different options all the time and mess with filters to see if i get any cool results until i land on something that makes me go "woahhhh this feels awesome". It can take actual hours just trying to find the right combination of colors...
——————
This ones a great example of a good color combo!! I tend to lean towards warmer/softer colors in my work unless im doing a nighttime scene or something with cold/fresh vibes. The dragon here is a pretty light shade, and i went with a matching light background. I did that to give it a soft/calm look <3
Tumblr media
When i look back at my art and any of my bigger/finished works, i notice i have a running theme of finding a nice balance between pastel/light colors and bright/saturated colors.
The saturated/brighter colors are usually used for the focal point, and the desaturated/lighter ones are for the background! I can also reverse that with a saturated/bright background and a light/desaturated focal point depending on the situation!
Heres some examples of what im talking about:
Tumblr media
——————
MMMMMMM LINES! Lineart, i love it. My artstyle when it comes to that kinda flip flops around a little. But i often use a thinner brush and the pen i draw with has pressure sensitivity!! So lineweight kind of just revolves around how i literally move my hand against the screen.
But when it comes to purposefully making the lines thicker or thinner though, i use bolder lines for the focal points or areas with sharp details, so they catch the eye.
Thinner or less opaque lines for outlining markings or representing fur, scales, feathers, things like that :D
——————
Tips, refs and recommendations??? OHhhhh, everything i use is specialized for helping myself reach the style/quality of art i aim to make so it wouldnt entirely help others the same way.
But i can say that for refs and tips, i save EVERY little thing that sparks inspiration or looks like it could help me draw something i find difficult later on. I have files organized for that stuff! Things for ref sheets, anatomy, tmnt-related, a file just titled "inspiration" full of anything that makes my eyes happy when i look at it, and one for kingfishers (theyre a fav of mine when it comes to finding the inspiration to design a dragon).
Ironically, i dont often use typical art tutorials so i dont have any recommendations to share because i wing-it like the menace to myself that i am xD I probably should use tutorials though, im constantly trying to improve and those would actually help. Im just, too lazy 💀
Its a great habit to save stuff that helps/inspires you for when your stuck! And just go out there and follow all the artists who inspire you, even the smaller ones. Ive seen so many unknown/underrated artists who are able to draw a certain way that id love too, just gotta hunt them down and follow them so i can keep seeing their art <3

Welcome back to Potato's "How To Bullshit Sewing"
First I showed my concept, now we're going to measure and cut out the pieces!
Tumblr media
So I'm going to vocational college for graphic design, so I need a bag to hold a lot of books and papers. My largest paper pad I've used so far is this Bristol Board, so that's what were going go use to measure about how big to make it!
First you take your largest item and lay it on the fabric, and draw the shape of the bag around it, remembering to have extra material for seam allowance, and "opps I fucked up and now the edges are all frazzled"
(I forgot to mention that the canvas and other materials I have is doubled, from when they cut it off the bolt, so you only need the cut out the outer material once if that's the case for you.)
It's likely I'll trim this down a bit later, but its better to have more than you need, then less that you have to go back and get.
Tumblr media
Next, stack the stuff you need in it and either take a leftover piece of material or paper and mark how wide the sides need to be. I had some leftover canvas that was about the width of the stuff I had, so I used it as a starting point.
Tumblr media
From the bottom of the material I marked where the top of the lenght was, pretty much just made a line where I the top corner was.
Tumblr media
Here I marked the width of the bag, but unfortunately I didn't have enough material to have one continuous line for the whole bag. But, since this material is folded, I can just mark about the middle of the bottom and have two halves.
Tumblr media
Next, the Tazer Pocket I want to add to throw side.
The one on my messenger bag was fine, that one I top sewed the folded edges closer together so it wouldn't be completely flat on the side, if that makes sense.
But this time we're making side seams so it doesn't go inside the bag a bit, if that makes sense also.
Repeat the steps like with the Bristol board, giving plenty of seam allowance and trimming room. This scrap price was perfect to use, and I had enough to also use it for the side seam.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I folded that material hotdog style and that looked to be enough for the side seam, so it's good enough for me! If it messes up later it can be a snack pocket lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, I want to make a drawstring bag on the opposite side for trinkets or chapstick or whatever the hell, so I cut out a piece that was a little bigger than the side of the bag, which looking now I'll likely trim a bit of the lenght off later.
Tumblr media
Sooooo, I forgot to take a picture of makeing the front flap for the bag. Since I used up the 10 image limit of the post, I'll make a drawing of how I made that later.
Thank you for reading! I know it's not a very comprehensive tutorial, but it's fun so oh well! Maybe in the future I'll make a better post about it.

on the topic of art & art style i think its also important to remember the amount of time that goes into it. very very few people are going to watch a life changing tutorial or see a reference that makes everything click and almost magically their art looks like someone elses. i have over 11 years into this hobby its building skills rather than something that just happens
the oldest i have access to rn is from 2014 the lines are totally scratchy & unconfident the coloring is too scared to make any statements & overall its the desire to mimic what i saw & liked without any real thought into what made others work something i liked
Tumblr media
2015 sees a little improvement in line confidence & a little more thought into shading but its clear i just knew clothes were something people wear & didnt have any thoughts on how it reacts to being worn. just total guess work and it looks off because of it. and yet again the bg is taking an idea & trying to make it work without understanding it
Tumblr media
2016 i hit my first feeling of "huh if u take the lines away my coloring is almost solid enough to hold up without it maybe i should try sometime" theres perhaps a little more understanding going on in the clothes but the lighting was clearly not thought about
Tumblr media
2017s when things really started picking up i think it was the last year i did line art. even if i didnt quite understand it theres more thought put into the shading, what colors work with what & what kind of depth that can give instead of just making the same hue slightly darker & calling it a day
Tumblr media
2018 took a bit of a hit bc i started doing lineless art & needed to get used to that & the type of refining & attention to shape thats required for it rather than before where the lines defined the shape so everything else was secondary. no lines really let me play with brushes & totally redefine how i did hair. likewise it forces more depth range in shading bc if u dont it really really looks flat.
Tumblr media
2019 we're more used to the lineless style theres less practice of how to do the style itself and more refining going on. this is the exact art i spent 6 hours redrawing the shirt & getting frustrated it didnt look right i went & put on a similar shirt & sat in front of a mirror for a long long time actually paying attention to what parts of the fabric grabbed where & fell where & it finally started to actually look like something instead of just mush stuck on in a lump. far from prefect but a good start. likewise i was gradually learning to refine other shapes as well & starting to fuck around with reflective light despite totally not understanding it. to this day i still dont know how to do noses but at this point i decided a little triangle for the lightest part worked well enough to get the point across
Tumblr media
2020 was a rough time & i lost some of the progress i made before & had to relearn different balances like face proportions & the like. shading was still a lot of hard shading, deciding a deep shadow color & using that as the main & not really having any softer gradients. theres a bit of an attempt at transitional colors though. also the year i decided to start using eye color at the ends of the eyelashes for fun. i also got into aru sekai series at the end of the year so sorry thats going to be most of my examples from here on
Tumblr media
2021 i felt very brave this year i did multiple pieces that took the whole month to finish (condensed time without breaks is more like 24 hours per piece) i really felt like messing around with what moods lighting can give & also wanted to do real backgrounds for once & honestly i wish i would do that more still. put some real thought into putting things in the foreground to give more depth & make it seem more complete. the shape of the clothes & bed could definitely be refined more as well as i'd handle the wet part of the wall from whatever the blue liquid is differently now as it doesnt quite reads as wet so much as just shadow. likewise the liquid should have a bit of a different way of reflecting light so it looks like a liquid and not a goo. uh but i still really like this one there was a lot of thought put into it & i think it shows even if its not up to my current standard
Tumblr media
2022. tempted to use the anni art again but i think this one shows off the skill level better. different lighting & how that interacts with different parts. keeping the shape of the skirt part in mind while its hidden under her jacket was difficult & wasnt done the best i couldve but theres definitely softer and more thoughtful blending going on in other parts of the clothes like her jacket. again using the flower petals to put something in the foreground to make it feel more full. working on making shapes more clear constantly but thats a given any year.
Tumblr media
2023 was more continuation trying to make shapes & details as clean as possible. less messing with lighting & backgrounds than before but theres still plenty of attention to detail going on in basically every part i can manage to think of. this is still the thing that took me the longest to date 37 hours & even then i wish i had had time to put more thought into a real bg a type of destroyed city type of scene but alas i did have a deadline on this one and also i was so so tired from all of this. i do enjoy using the broken glass to show a glimpse of whats going on in the other songs i really do need to recycle that again i could outdo myself given the time & energy just u wait. but i still love this as is.
Tumblr media
2024 rough year i moved & was struggling with so so much legal paperwork and then also other assignments most of my art was nothing more than doodles but i really ended the year off well with simaenaga rime. technically i finished it in january this year but i was over like 2/3 done with it when the year ended so im counting it. this wasnt even supposed to be some sort of statement i just saw the outfit irl & thought it would suit her so i self indulgently started drawing it & before i knew it it took 18 hours of work when i thought itd be 12 at most. so much thought into the direction of the fabric and all the little details on the outfit. and this is a simplified version of the actual design. i dont like how her nails turned out i somehow dont know how to color nails despite keeping my own long u would think itd be easy but no. adding color variation in the whites so its less flat & more interesting but still reads as white. despite a basic bg it still gives the feel i wanted so im more than happy with it
Tumblr media
2025 i FINALLY drew my beloved Angel From Songs Ou-chan (tenshi) again & really used it to play with lighting & expressions & colors. the one part that really fell short of my vision is i wanted to have the inside of her hair look like its glowing blue & it admittedly doesnt look that off but its not what i was hoping for either. i want to keep this trend this year making interesting lighting and/or angles & try to get in some with real bgs again.

dead souls' progression is just done do fucking well tho like akiyama is once again The Tutorial Of All Time. signature weapon with infinite ammo that visually shows the auto-aiming so you can get a grasp of it. small quarantine zone where approaching it slowly and carefully doesn't feel way too slow and the progress of moving across maps makes it feel bigger than it is. perfect time to get used to the controls and navigating the environments
and then you get to majima whose shotgun RULES and makes you use ammo because it's just so fucking fun to shoot and does so much damage! kamurocho's a bit more fucked now so learning to avoid zombies for faster navigation in free battle pays off, and maybe you're more incentivized to do that now that your cool gun has ammo you need to preserve. mow down the mutants from earlier with so much more ease. you feel so much more powerful and only in chapter two
ryuji then amps up the challenge a little bc his gun eats so much ammo and does less damage with a single bullet. you gotta learn how to conserve it and pick your battles, but it doesn't feel bad to use bc shooting down crowds is satisfying as hell. they even start you off with a crowd to let you get a taste of it! you can get a lot out of ryuji's arm but it does require more skill to use than the ones before it and it feels like a very comfortable kind of rise in difficulty
and kiryu. he doesn't even Get his funny rifle until the very end. the game makes you use guns you might have ignored before to ramp up the difficulty bc they are not gonna be as cool and powerful as fully upgraded signature weapons. and that doesn't even make the game feel impossible, it's just a different kind of approach. and even when you do get the funny rifle its ammo is more expensive to use bc there's so little of it and you have to reload more often, and you'll likely juggle multiple types of ammo in your inventory at that bc whereas the other signature weapons are more multi-purpose kiryu's is kind of wasted on weaker zombies and you'd rather not blow all your precious signature ammo on them
basic video game shit but it is so so cool to me i love dead souls <3

TOTK REIMAGINED
First of all, the Link and Zelda from Skyward Sword are named Sky (Link) and Sun (Zelda) to distinguish them from Link and Zelda (botw/totk)!
The nicknames are borrowed from Linked Universe!!
MAJOR TOTK PLOT SPOILERS!!
- That Ganondorf? He's not Ganondorf, but another man. Maybe gerudo, an evil king. But not Ganondorf.
- Rauru is a Hylian, the son of Sky and Sun, first king of Hyrule and first sage
- the constructs are ancient Sheikah tech infused with holy power from Sun/Hylia! They look so magical and advanced because they are full of Sun's power nobody else has.
- Sonia is a Sheikah, and she isn't the descendant of Sun and Sky.
(spoilers ahead)
- Before leaving the world of the living, Sun created the sacred stones, taking 7 amber relics and adding her power to them, and explained her and Sky's son (Rauru) their purpose, though there was a collateral effect, the draconification, if one was to eat the stone.
- Link didn't start from the sky islands when he woke up after the accident under the castle, but Rauru's hand took him in the depths, in an enclosed area containing the Sealed temple and the huge goddess statue temple from sksw, that got buried with time under what's now the Great Plateau. The tutorial is both in the depths and, when Link reactivates the 3 stone tablets and the last remaining bird statue, he gets his paraglider back and is sent to the sky thanks to the bird statue, the only access to the sky other than using the rewind functionality if the hand.
- Link's arm is NOT Rauru's (that so strange, chopping an arm off a dead body and sewing it to Link... eww) but one of those ancient constructs. Rauru reactivates the hand but it's not fully ready, Link had to reactivate its functionalities (ultrahabd, rewind, autobuild, fuse etc)
- Mineru isn't Rauru's sister but his and Sonia's daughter, and she's half Sheikah half Hylian. When her mother passed away, and Zelda, a Hylian, took her place, Mineru was considered the Sheikah sage. Her parents didn't want her to get a stone though, she took it by accident out of curiosity maybe, or maybe I'll find a more fitting story/reason. Also, she doesn't die or turn into a spirit. She lives and the royal bloodline continues with her and most likely an Hylian as the royal family has always been known as Hylian. In modern times, her stone is passed to Josha.
- It's the power of all the new sages, the great fairies, the 3 dragons and Link together to bring Zelda back, and not the ghosts of Rauru and Sonia.
- The first group of sages was created by Rauru, giving the secret stones to wise people of different populations. He's the sage of light. The others are Sonia (sheikah), a goron, a "zora" (primitive zora, blue colored probably, a mix of oot looking zora and parella from sksw), a gerudo (oot style and nomad), instead of the Rito who didn't exist yet we get a member of the Wind Tribe, and Mineru. When Sonia is killed, Zelda takes her place, but with her own stone, as the enemy has taken Sonia's.
- Link won't get his arm back, but the construct arm will get esthetic upgrades to look less metallic and easier to use, smoother to move. The holy power inside will most likely fade after the whole adventure that used and "drained" it, so at the end Link will have a working prosthetic arm and hand but no special powers. He will as well learn to use both the hands to fight.

Do you think in the future you would ever make a four legged falin chimera? Like obviously that would be like a fuck ton of work and if not like,, yeah obviously, but I just keep thinking about it.. like maybe building it like those multiple arm cosplays where the back legs are just tied to the front legs and have tandem movement. it'd be a lot of trunk junk though so I don't know how practical for walking through conventions it'd be (unless they were detachable but idk I'm just on an autism tangent)
I'm making a four legged one now! Check out this tag to see how I'm doing it.
For a TLDR/expansion on that tag though: I'm making a centaur body for the back! Since those are a concept that has been done a few times already in youtube videos, I figured it'd be the best way to just follow along with that.
So the way that it's set up is its basically a PVC rectangular prism, and then PVC back legs. it belts around my waist, and the back legs move along the floor (for most of the centaur builds they're light enough to fully articulate, but in my case its not entirely possible. they'll move, but they wont lift off the ground.) And then you either cardboard or chicken wire around the frame, spray foam it (or whatever other method to get it to be the body shape), and then cover it!
HOWEVER, the way I'm doing mine has a secret third step that throws all of it into difficult range, which is that i'm making WINGS!
Now, the thing with cosplay wings is, 99% of the time you look them up, you're going to find tutorials on how to make ones that you wear like a backpack, over your shoulders. But with the chimera's case, that's not possible! So, my dad and I actually had to engineer a completely new way for the wings to open on the "centaur" body. You can see in this post the mechanism we had to make. I originally wanted the wings to go through a more naturalistic movement involving tilting and such, but because we're doing it manually and neither my dad nor me are engineers, we eventually settled on a two step movement. The wing sits in the way a birds wing would when tucked in. Then, it expands, and it pulls forward to frame around my body.
The most important part to me was that it looks natural when closed, and that when opened it frames around my body, which I wanted for a flourish for the performance aspect of the competition.
ANYWAY the hope with the centaur ass and the legs moving along the ground is that them being on the ground will help kind of keep the weight less on my hips. I mentioned in a previous ask that if it came down to it, there would be a harness coming from the back of the centaur ass near the tail and working around my shoulders, that would help again distribute the weight off my hips and more to my hips and shoulders.
I'm not sure what walking through a convention space is going to be like, but since this is mainly made for competition, the hope is that I won't be anywhere near an overly crowded area like an artists' alley for any length of time. I'm also going to have a handler (my dad lol) to help with maneuvering through the space. It's going to be something that's worn strictly to the competition, and maybe a meetup if there is one. ALSO: currently the entire length of the back half is about 4/5 feet behind me. The body is 3ft and the tails entire length is 5ft, but the tail droops off the back, so it's not a full 8 feet length. I'm going to make sure the tail is detachable just for elevator situations and the like, too.
But I think no matter where you see it, even in the state that it's in now, it's gonna turn some heads.
Thanks for asking, and for letting me ramble on!!
