I’m about to save you thousands of dollars in therapy by teaching you what I learned paying thousands of dollars for therapy:
It may sound woo woo but it’s an important skill capitalism and hyper individualism have robbed us of as human beings.
Learn to process your emotions. It will improve your mental health and quality of life. Emotions serve a biological purpose, they aren’t just things that happen for no reason.
1. Pause and notice you’re having a big feeling or reaching for a distraction to maybe avoid a feeling. Notice what triggered the feeling or need for a distraction without judgement. Just note that it’s there. Don’t label it as good or bad.
2. Find it in your body. Where do you feel it? Your chest? Your head? Your stomach? Does it feel like a weight everywhere? Does it feel like you’re vibrating? Does it feel like you’re numb all over?
3. Name the feeling. Look up an emotion chart if you need to. Find the feeling that resonates the most with what you’re feeling. Is it disappointment? Heartbreak? Anxiety? Anger? Humiliation?
4. Validate the feeling. Sometimes feelings misfire or are disproportionately big, but they’re still valid. You don’t have to justify what you’re feeling, it’s just valid. Tell yourself “yeah it makes sense that you feel that right now.” Or something as simple as “I hear you.” For example: If I get really big feelings of humiliation when I lose at a game of chess, the feeling may not be necessary, but it is valid and makes sense if I grew up with parents who berated me every time I did something wrong. So I could say “Yeah I understand why we are feeling that way given how we were treated growing up. That’s valid.”
5. Do something with your body that’s not a mental distraction from the feeling. Something where you can still think. Go on a walk. Do something with your hands like art or crochet or baking. Journal. Clean a room. Figure out what works best for you.
6. Repeat, it takes practice but is a skill you can learn :)

Now I am not saying that Drumbot Brian on the drums or banjo are over appreciated because I don't think it is possible to appreciate anything about Drumbot Brian too much, BUT I do think that Drumbot Brian on the accordion is terribly underappreciated.

Look at this. How can you see this and Not want to talk about him on the accordion for the rest of time?? Also the instrument itself is pretty and matches the rose on his hat.

How come game Michael has all those bandages? I’m curious!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I got asked this a few times! Honestly it’s just a character design choice
To me, it makes sense Michael would have small bandages here and there on his skin, just from all his working with animatronics and snooping around. So the bandages are there to reflect that

Any advice for getting into a creative groove? I really like what I've seen of your work, I have a degree in art but I haven't made anything in a long time and I really want to get back into it
Honestly, a good chunk of it for me is watching other people do creative stuff, often stuff I don't do. I have to be careful when I watch Project Runway reruns because it makes me start frothing and I start doing interior design projects. Sometimes finding an artist who's really engaged and excited to be working on whatever it is that they do is enough to trigger a similar creative fuel, even on something totally unrelated.
Sometimes when I'm in a creative slump, what I need to do is just clean, organize, and pretty up my workspace. I have some dedicated space in my home now, but even before then, when my workspace was portable or just a corner of my apartment, getting all my tools and desk space ready, with no project in mind, helped me feel more excited about creating. If your workspace is uninviting, your mind is not going to feel invited to work. You don't have to spend money on this, just take what you have and get it set up nicely.
Also just...make something stupid and low-effort and silly. If it's been a while then don't start with something big and serious. Get some pipe cleaners and googly eyes and go to town with em. Make a little cardboard marionette. Get one of those five dollar craft kits and turn it into something it's not supposed to be. Just make something. It doesn't need to be good. It doesn't need to be important; it doesn't need to be interesting. You just need to make something, and the process of doing the work is likely to spark some other idea in your head.
Work with a buddy! Schedule yourself an evening with a friend to do a Bob Ross painting together, or to watch a movie while you both sculpt something out of air-dry clay or do whatever art you're both into--again, doesn't have to be good--and the social pressure is likely to help you along.
But overall--don't wait for creativity to strike; don't wait for a perfect idea. Just make something; then do that again. The rest will follow.

"why couldn't shuro have just been honest about what he felt with laios and falin it's not that hard" are you. are you White
#dungeon meshi#shuro#toshiro nakamoto#look you can hate him for other things but this is very clearly a case of cultures (& personalities influenced by these cultures) clashing#shuro is japanese/east asian-coded and laios is european white boy#i am not japanese but i also come from a collectivistic society#pakikisama is a filipino value both prized and abhorred#it relies heavily on being able to read social cues and prior knowledge of societal norms#shuro being from a different country/culture is important to his character#his repressed nature is meant to contrast with laios' open one like that's the point#they both had similar upbringings but different coping mechanisms#shuro explicitly admits that he's jealous of laios being able to live life sincerely#anyway the point is they were operating on different expectations entirely and neither had healthy enough communication skills#to hash things out before they got too bad#re his attraction to falin i personally believe he unfortunately mpdg-ed her#she represented something new & different. a fresh drink of water for his parched repressed self#alas not meant to be#i'll be honest the way ryoko kui handles both fantasy & regular racism in dm is more miss than hit for me#i don't doubt that a lot of the shuro hate is based off of marcille's pov of him#marcille famously racist 😭#characters' racist views don't often get (too) challenged#practically everyone is casually racist at some point#anyway. again if you're gonna hate shuro at least hate him for being complicit in human trafficking & slavery#he couldn't help falling for the wrong woman goddamn 😭#calemonsito notes#edit: upon further reflection i take back what i said about toshiro mpdg-ing falin!#i'm sorry toshiro 😭

a guide to hearing voices
(Note: this information was given to me by my therapist and is not my original writing. The information provided in this post comes from the UK based mental health charity known as Mind, and is paraphrased by me.)
What are voices?
A hallucination is a perception you may have that is not shared by those around you. Hearing voices is a type of auditory hallucination where you hear voices when no one is present, or that other people cannot hear. Some examples of voices you may hear include:
Hearing your name called when no one is around.
Hearing things as you fall asleep.
Feel as though you can hear other people’s thoughts.
Threatening voices that tell you to do dangerous things.
Friendly voices that encourage or support you.
Multiple voices arguing or talking with one another.
There are many reasons why you might hear voices. Some reasons include lack of sleep, hunger, physical illness, being under the influence of drugs, grief, abuse/bullying, physical illness, trauma, spiritual experiences, or mental health problems such as psychosis.
How can I help myself cope?
Understanding your voices and how they relate to your past may help you feel more in control, recognize when voices cause problems, stand up to your voice, or develop a better relationship with your voices so they don’t interfere with your life.
Some questions to help you think about how your voices relate to you are:
What was happening when I first heard voices?
Where was I and how was I feeling?
What did the voice say?
What did they sound like?
Do they represent a person or a problem?
Are there any patterns to the voices?
What do the voices want me to do?
What do I want to do?
It may be helpful to keep a diary and record when you hear voices or what they say. This can help you identify patterns and understand how they affect you over a period of time.
Here are some suggestions to help you feel more in control of your voices:
Ignore them, block them out, or distract yourself.
Give them times when you agree to talk to them and times when you won’t.
Tell them to wait.
Stand up to them, ignore their commands and threats. They have no power over you.
Try to ignore the voices you don’t like, and focus on the ones you find easier to listen to.
Use grounding techniques, like taking note of the things you see, hear, smell, etc.
The recovery approach
This helps reframe the way we see recovery. The main principles of the recovery approach are:
Live the best life you can have the you can with your experiences and the consequences they’ve had.
Focusing on what you can do, not what you can’t.
Making your own choices and being your own person.
Seeing recovery as a journey, not a destination.
Seeing setbacks as ways of learning more about yourself.
Maintaining hope.
How other people can help
If someone you care about hears voices, you might find it hard to understand what they are experiencing. But there are many things you can do to help support them.
Accept that their experiences of voices are real, even if you don’t understand it.
Try not to make judgements about what hearing voices means for them.
Learn their triggers.
Remember that they are still the same person you’ve always known. Hearing voices doesn’t change who they are.
Ask them what would help, and avoid making assumptions.
Reassure them that they are not alone. There are lots of reasons why people hear voices.
Encourage them to talk about their experience. To you, to a doctor, or to a support group.
Learn more about the experience of hearing voices and fight the stigma.
Help them seek treatment and support, if they want it.
