The witch made him a good deal. 3 days silent and he got to be a human. The catch is? Bucky had to kiss the girl he saved.

Let me catch you up to speed. 2 days ago, Bucky (a merman. mind you) saw a ship catch on fire and he saved a girl from drowning. Once he brought her to the shore, he sang a special tune to help the girl NOT die via drowning.

What Bucky did not see coming was the girl being called "Your Highness" by the servant who found her.

Bucky still couldn't believe it himself. I mean, his father WAS the king of the seas, which made him a prince, but a human princess? She was BEAUTIFUL.

Steve warned him not to go to the sea witch, but Bucky, as always, didn't listen.

Now Bucky was sitting on the shore, with HUMAN legs, but silent.

Luckily he found pants, and was trying to walk along the shore, but sat on a rock to catch his breath. Walking is hard!

He heard footsteps coming.

"Oh my goodness, are you ok?" Bucky remembered her. It was the princess! She wore a green dress with her black hair down to mid-waist.

She got on her knees where Bucky sat, looking him over.

"Wait a minute, you look familiar", she said, raising an eyebrow.

Did she see who Bucky was when he rescued her?

"What's your name?", the princess asked. "I'm Y/n."

Bucky was silent. However, he did cuss out the sea witch in his head.

"Oh, can you not talk?", Y/n asked, to which Bucky shook his head.

"Maybe you aren't the guy I remember. You see, 2 days ago, I was rescued by a guy from drowning. I told my father that I would marry the person who saved me, to which he agreed because he has wanted me to get married for a while now. I remember the guy had a beautiful voice, and sang a soft melody."

Bucky had his eyes opened wide, and tried to think of a way to show Y/n that he was the guy!

He had an idea. He grabbed her sleeve, and used his fingers to try and show that he can write.

"Can you write?", Y/n asked.

Bucky eagerly nodded his head, glad that she understood him.

"I have a piece of paper and a pen. Here, use it", Y/n said, giving Bucky the things.

Bucky wrote a message and gave it to Y/n.

It read:

"I AM the guy you are looking for. Kiss me, and I'll show you.

-Bucky (James)"

Y/n read the note and shrugged. "Ok, worth a shot, Jamie."

She reached over and kissed Bucky.

A golden light came running out of the ocean next to them, and went into Bucky's mouth!

He sang the same tune he sang when saving Y/n, to show that he was telling the truth.

Y/n gasped. "It IS you! Oh, I'm so glad!"

"Thanks for that. I'm Bucky", he introduced himself as.

"I should be thanking you! You saved my life!"

Bucky waved it off. "My pleasure."

"You know, I just met you now. You want to take things slow before I marry you?", Y/n asked.

"Sure. I wouldn't except you to marry me next week", Bucky agreed.

Y/n smiled and kissed him again.

"So, I have a question. Are you a siren?", Y/n asked.

"Close. I'm a merman."

"Okay. But how did you get legs?"

Bucky cleared his throat. "I might have made a deal with a sea witch. She said that if I gave her my voice, she would give me human legs. But I had 3 days to kiss you before turning back into a merman."

Y/n raised an eyebrow. "That's a bit shady."

"Ah, but it was worth it."

"Damn right. Come on. I'll take you to the castle. There you can get clothes and I can tell my father about this."

"Don't tell him about the merman part please!"

"I'm not an idiot."

Y/n helped Bucky up and off they went to the castle.

*Time skip*

"You said that you would marry the man who saved you!", the king yelled.

"I did say that. I never said when I would marry him", Y/n replied.

"...Touche", the king said.

"Dad, I barely know James. I promise I will marry him, but I want to know him before leaping into his arms."

"Deal. But he better treat you well", the king agreed, staring a death stare at Bucky, fully clothed now.

"Oh, I will, your highness", Bucky said, nervously.

"Take him to his quarters, daughter. And I am glad you are taking the right steps. Marrying a guy you just met, not a good idea", the king said, proudly.

"Thank you for trusting my decision", Y/n said, guiding Bucky out of the room.

"He reminds me of my dad", Bucky whispered to Y/n.

"Oh yeah?"

"Yep. Except my dad hates humans and your dad is a human."

Y/n giggled. She stopped at a door and opened it.

"Here is your room. It is across from mine. I asked the cook to bring up some eggs and toast", Y/n told Bucky.

"Got it. I have no idea what it is", Bucky said.

"It's a breakfast food, but it's an easy thing to make", Y/n explained.

"Oh, got it." Bucky looked at the window, which showed the sea.

"I would like to ask you on a date tomorrow, if you are interested", Y/n proposed.

"Sure! But...what's a date?"

Y/n laughed. "It's where 2 people go somewhere, but it's usually romantic. I was thinking the marketplace, seeing as someone as a merman would have to love humans to become one himself."

Bucky nodded. "Yep! I have a million questions about them. And I'll love to go on a date with you."

Y/n smiled. "Lovely. I have to go and ask the seamstresses to make some clothes for you. I will see you later."

She closed the door after her, and Bucky plopped on the bed.

"BUCKY!!!!", yelled a voice from the sea. Well, shit.

Bucky walked over to the window to see Steve, staring at him from the ocean.

"Hi punk!", Bucky replied, waving.

Steve was shocked.

"You can talk? But the witch-"

"Did not say anything about me being able to write a note to the princess asking her to kiss me. And it worked!", Bucky reported.

"I can't believe it. Well, what's on the agenda now?", Steve asked.

"She said something about going on a date tomorrow, to the marketplace." Bucky remembered something. "My dad! Oh crud. Is he worried?"

"I am supposed to be looking for you. He's sad about ruining your trove and wants to say sorry", Steve explained.

"Oh. Can you tell him where I am? And be careful about visiting me. I don't want you to get caught."

"I'll be fine. I deal with you and your human obsession."

Steve swam underneath the sea, and Bucky fell back on the bed, exhausted.

This has been one hell of a day.

Meanwhile...

"Why that little bitch!", the witch yelled, throwing her things everywhere.

(I think she was talking about Bucky cheating the system)

Chapter 1

Pairing: mer person! Tony Stark x Steve Rogers

Summary: Steve leaves Tony behind to go fight in the war, and doesn’t come back… Until 65 years later.

Prologue / Part 1

Steve isn’t sure whether or not he’s happy they found him. He’s not sure if he’s grateful or resentful that they brought him back. He’s alive, but at what cost? Everyone he knows is dead, except Peggy, but she’s in a memory care home and barely remembers him.

It grips at his throat in the dead of night when he tries to sleep. He feels sick and angry and sad, all at the same time.

He thinks of the last night he saw Tony. That night was the first and last time they had shown each other the love they had, but they never got to say their ‘I love you’s. Tony refused to hear it, because Steve could say it when he got back.

It’s been 65 years since that night.

Steve knows that as a mer person, Tony lived longer. But he didn’t know by how much. And in those 65 years, anything could have happened…

Steve vomits at the thought that anything might have happened.

It’s two more weeks by the time he’s decided he has to visit their spot at the lake. Maybe it’s not there anymore. Maybe there’s apartments there, or a shopping mall.

But when he gets off his SHIELD-issued motorcycle, he lets go of a breath and feels almost giddy that it’s been nearly untouched.

He’s brought a bag to keep him occupied for the day, because he really doesn’t plan on leaving until it gets dark. He needs this, to feel something familiar. Even though it fills his throat with emotions and turns his stomach inside out to know that Tony won’t show up.

He settles under the large oak tree that’s still there, noticing that their names are still carved into the wood. He pulls out his pencils and sketchbook, and begins to the view, but eventually catches himself drawing Tony, propped up onto the boulder he always favored laying on.

He’s immersed in every detail of Tony, making sure to get everything right; the shape of his eyes, the dimples of his smile, the curve of his collarbone, the shape of his tail, even the scar on his fin.

He doesn’t know how much time has passed, he hasn’t been paying attention and honestly, he doesn’t care. All he knows is that by the time he looks up from the page, the sun is no longer in front of him, but behind. Almost as soon as he looks up, there’s a rustling sound and the water ripples.

“Hello?” Steve calls, standing up from his spot. His joints ache at the sudden movement and his right foot is asleep. He looks around but doesn’t see a soul. He shakes out his foot and moves to the water.

Maybe it was just a fish.

He takes a long breath and walks to the boulder, and rolls his pant legs up, deciding to hang his legs in the water. He sits and submerged his legs into the cool water.

That’s when he sees it.

There’s a rock a few meters away that juts into the water. There’s a fin swishing under the water that’s just in sight. And Steve’s heart stops.

He knows that fin. He memorized the color, the shape, the little tear that never fully healed from an injury a long, long time ago.

Steve doesn’t speak, though. Because it’s not possible… Right? He can’t even find his voice.

Suddenly he feels like he’s having an out of body experience. His voice leaves his body without consent nor recognition.

“Tony?” He sounds breathless.

The fin stops moving, and for several long moments, Steve thinks he’s not breathing. Has he died? Did he crash his motorcycle and now he’s dead?

But then the water ripples again and the owner of said fin peeks around the rock.

He’s definitely dead… Because-

“Steve?” Tony says. It sounds broken, scared.

Steve lets go of the breath he’s been holding, “Holy shit-“ He scrambles into the water and moves to swim to Tony, but of course Tony is already there, looking up at the man that’s used to be MUCH smaller.

“You’re taller.”

It’s the same thing Bucky said to him.

“You’re older.” Because yeah, Tony’s features are definitely older. He looks like what a human man in his early 40s might look. He’s got a sharp goatee that has Steve nearly foaming at the mouth.

The water only stands to Steve’s waist, when it used to come to his chest.

Tony can’t meet Steve’s height anymore, not in water this shallow.

“I need you to come down here and kiss me before it kills me.”

Steve takes no time in bending down and pulling Tony up against him, standing up at his full height once more. Tony grabs Steve’s face and kisses him with fervor. Like this kiss will make Steve stay, and stop him from disappearing again.

Steve’s arms are wrapped around Tony, one around his middle and one around his tail where his bottom would be if he were human. Tony wraps his tail around Steve’s legs in order to hold him tighter.

When they finally break for air, they’re both crying.

“I thought you were dead-“

“How are you here-“

“You never came back-“

“I thought I’d never see you again-“

Confessions and fears pour from each other until they’re sunk back into the water, Steve on his knees and holding Tony to him.

“I love you.” Steve tells him.

Tony is quiet, looking Steve in the eyes as tears fall.

“You told me to wait until I came back to you. I’m back, and I can’t wait anymore. I need you to know that I love you more than anything. I can’t survive without you anymore. I’ll- I have connections, now. Maybe we can bring you back to SHIELD and get you a pool with top secret clearance and maybe we can try and find a way to-“

Tony silences the man with another kiss. When he pulls away, Steve’s quiet.

“I’ll go wherever you want. Just don’t disappear again.”

Steve nods and looks down, suddenly noticing two things.

Tony is wearing his dog tags, and

There’s a glowing blue light in Tony’s chest.

Tony notices Steve’s gaze, “I’ve never stopped wearing them. Not since Peggy showed up with them…”

Tony closes his eyes at the memory, not wanting to think about it now.

Steve kisses Tony’s shoulder, thumbing the tags, “And the…” He trails off, not really knowing what to call the thing taking place in Tony’s sternum.

“…The reactor? It’s a long, sad story. I don’t want to ruin this with it. I’ll tell you another time.”

Steve grabs Tony’s hand and squeezes it, kissing his knuckles and holding it to his chest. His heart hurts, because it looks incredibly painful. The skin around it is scarred and puckered, the color of his skin ranging between pink and red and pale. Something horrible happened, and Steve wasn’t here to protect him.

“Hey,” Tony lifts Steve’s chin so that he looks at him, “Don’t worry. I’m okay. It doesn’t hurt as much anymore.”

“As much?” Steve’s eyes are sad. Tony’s are too, but he smiles and tilts his head.

“Don’t worry about that right now. A lot has changed. I haven’t been completely alone the last few years.”

Steve isn’t sure what that means, but he feels like something is lifted off his chest. He nods, agreeing to stop pressing the issue because Tony clearly doesn’t want to talk about it right now.

Tony smiles and ducks his head, nuzzling his nose against Steve’s neck, “You’re much stronger now.”

Steve chuckles, “Yeah.”

Tony’s hands move from Steve’s shoulders down to his biceps, and squeeze, “So… Muscle-y.” He nips at Steve’s pulse point, earning him a gasp. He smirks, “Anything else change?” He asks, pushing his tail into Steve, making the other man groan.

Steve grabs at Tony’s arms and turns them around, pushing Tony into the dirt along the water.

“Would you like me to show you?” Steve asks, his voice now low and filled with lust. Tony looks into his eyes, the blue almost completely overtaken by his blown out pupils.

Tony nods, “Please.”

They spend the rest of the day like that, making up for lost time.

By the time Fury gets a call from Steve, it’s nearly 10pm.

“Captain, what the fuck-“

“I need a favor. I’ll sign up for your super team, but I need this in exchange.”

Fury sits up from his relaxed position in his office chair, interest suddenly piqued, “Go on…”

Backstory for everyone but us two lunatics 🤣:

This AU idea sparked from a conversation between Dumpling and I about belly kink awakening content from our childhood's. I opened the conversation with the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and then later re-disovered another picture book I read that Made Me Feel Things lmao

That second book was about these mermaids, little girls, who decided to not listen to their father and go talk to humans. Their Dad warned them that, hey, humans are bad and will trick you. Don't. But they didn't listen! And the two mergirls make friends with two human girls on the shore. These human girls then introduce the mergirls to human food (among other things) and they hang out everyday for a few days, swimming home in time to not get in trouble every time except-! Eventually, the human girls bring tons and tons of different food to give the mergirls rather than splitting half of their picnic lunch with them as they had before. And the mergirls eat all, all of the food. Eating and stuffing their faces until they're so heavy that they can't swim home. And they have to sleep on the shore for the night, returning in the morning to their ocean kingdom. The mergirls are then "punished" for endangering themselves with the humans as well as for their gluttony.

I never knew why I liked it so much as a child, reading and rereading, until I suddenly remembered it and connected my love of it to, well... the content on this entire blog 🤣🤣

But yes yes yes, personal backstory aside, now time for the AU backstory:

Bucky is the lighthouse keeper.

He lives alone on his little island with supplies and a few animals, mostly a bunch of birds he feeds, the flock depends on the season. Also though, he has a cat, Alpine. She hunts mice occasionally (when they become a problem) but otherwise she sticks to her fancy wet food. The little princess.

There's a boat or two dragged up from the dock at the rocky island shore to the land. He has to have some way to get back to the mainland.

And while the island is little compared to, like, fully established island nations, it is more than big enough for a lighthouse, garden, and plenty of open space.

Bucky loves his garden and grows all that he can- there's not a lot to do but cook and clean. He mostly cooks a lot before a trip back to the mainland when he drops all his treats off with friends and family.

And STEVE

Merman Steve!

This Steve is pre-serum looking, very thin, petite, his ribs sticking out everytime he breathes in deep, underwater or on land. He's the "runt" of the pod of merpeople he's apart of and on top of that, this winter has been hard... its been Extra difficult to find food.

But, Steve,, Steve's eyes are hypnotizingly blue. As are his scales, his tail so so blue, the webs between his fingers blue tinted, scales at his elbows, the edges of his fan shaped ears, etc. His skin is so pale that it's nearly see-through. He probably, definitely has freckles... when you look close enough at least. Otherwise he's too pale for anyone to notice them. And Steve's hair is so, so blond. Underwater it looks platinum blond with the sunlight and water reflecting but above water it's wheat-golden, the longer hair at the top of his head juuust long enough to fall into his eyes.

Enough backstory! Onto the story-story!

Steve is no match for the late winter storm that centers over that patch of ocean one night. He gets bashed up against the rocks at the shore of Bucky's island. Getting bruises and thankfully only minor cuts. Mostly he's just confused as to where the fuck he is, currents pulling him this way and that. When Steve finds a smooth wooden surface to cling to instead of rocks... he stays put.

That surface is Bucky's modest dock.

And that same winter storm night Bucky feels his house tremble and shake around him. The lighthouse attached to his home is fine but... he feels as if he'll blow away in the wind! Alpine spends the night weaving nervously in and out of his legs as he walks around his home, heating up soup for dinner, taking a shower while listening to the rain batter the sides of his home and the howling of the wind beyond.

In the morning, the storm clears.

Bucky goes about the island ensuring everything is in one piece and investigating what might've been blown ashore in the night.

He finds Steve.

And...

Maybe it's the cabin fever talking; a result of being alone for so long on the island but... coming along just in time to watch this shaking, trembling creature (beautiful creature) crawl up onto his dock, battered and bruised, thin enough that Bucky might be able to snap him with his bare hands, Bucky feels the urgent need to help him.

Bucky has never seen a mermaid before.

Steve has never seen a human before.

"Are you okay?" Bucky asks.

Steve... Steve pauses and for a moment Bucky is pretty sure that he doesn't speak English but then- "I... I dont know."

"Can I help?"

Steve nods.

Bucky helps by telling Steve to stay there while he runs home to fill his bathtub with sea water since when he asks if salt or fresh water matters, Steve cocks his head and says he doesn't know what fresh water is. Isn't all water fresh? Bucky runs back and forth from the shore to his house, dumping buckets of sea water into his tub. Then-

Bucky gets a wheelbarrow, originally for his gardening needs, and easily lifts Steve up into it, rolling him home.

"What's your name?" Bucky asks, rolling him over the grassy meadow back to the lighthouse.

"Steve."

"Steve, hi, my name is Bucky."

"Bucky? Is that a common human name?"

"Not particularly, it's a... a modification of my middle name."

"Your middle name? You have a beginning and ending name too?"

"Yeah, kind of, I have a first and last name too. James Buchanan Barnes. Bucky comes from the middle name, Buchanan. Buchanan is waaaay more common then Bucky."

"I'm just Steve."

"Well, okay, I like the name Steve."

Then-

At home, with Steve now resting in his sea water filled bathtub, Bucky cleans up the worst of his cuts and bruises with antiseptic after using some soap to scrub off the mud and seaweed- "are you sure this is helping?!" Steve asks, whining,"it hurts!"

"I promise it helps."

Steve might complain about the ache of cleaning his wounds but he does the exact opposite when Bucky feeds him afterwards...

Tail splashing water as he flicks it every now and again, first Bucky has him try some leftover but reheated cooked fish with lemon and garlic butter. Steve wolfs it down so fast and so eagerly (three whole big fillets!) that seconds have to be in order afterwards! Bucky cooks too much for himself anyway and just looking at how thin Steve is, Bucky wouldn't mind cooking more just for him. He can have more than three fillets. Seconds are a few homemade scones slathered in jam. Thirds are plenty of strips of smoked ocean salmon. Fourths are more scones on account of Steve's request.

But by the time he's done eating everything Bucky gives him, barely taking enough time to mutter a thank you before tearing into whatever it is, the meal (or meals rather) are visible on Steve.

Visible in how his stomach pushes out from his ribs harshly. Unnaturally almost- so large and round that Bucky thinks about asking if merpeople have stretchy stomachs before he reels himself back in. That's a rude think to ask. In human culture but also probably merperson culture.

Either way, Bucky keeps looking, hiding in plain sight of just being a curious human. His belly... it's so stretched. Pink and taut.

Steve stretches out, sloshing some water over the side onto the floor, and moans. "God, if I could eat like this all the time, I would! And I'd never swim again..." he chuckles, "I'd sink like this I think," he slaps a hand over his stomach, forcing a burp out of himself.

Bucky laughs to cover his own moan but can't help continuing to stare at how Steve's webbed hands rub his swollen stomach. And without another actual thought, beyond ohohohohoh Bucky adds, "i-if you can't swim tonight, that's okay. You can stay here. If. Uh. If you want to. I'm not- not trapping you here. You are free to leave but if you want to-"

"Oh, yes, thank you-" Steve murmurs, still rubbing his own impressively large stomach, eyelids drooping as he turns his head to look at Bucky.

Bucky stares back and puts his foot in his mouth again, asking, "do you want help?"

Fuck. Oops.

"With what?"

"That-" he chokes out after a moment of stuttering, eyes flicking to his tortured, bloated stomach.

"Uh, I guess, how'd you be helpi-?"

"Like this," Bucky interjects to lay his hands on his skin, fever hot and thin, stretched over the rock-hard mass of food inside him.

Steve moans. He struggles to lift his hips up into the touch too.

Bucky has never felt more- more electric. Since the moment he first spoke to Steve he knew he was special and he liked him but touching him... fuck. Bucky is pretty sure he's in love with him. He's beautiful and smart and-

Full.

(Bucky later jokes to Steve that if he had known better and been more guarded he might've thrown Steve out with accusations of him being a siren, not a normal merman. Or maybe he wouldn't've... he might've been too hypnotized.)

But... it goes on like that, Steve lives in Bucky's bathtub, eating as much as Bucky will feed him. Probably even more than Bucky would've give him, if not for his asking for more. But sometimes Steve gets into a fit of feeling like he's too reliant on Bucky for everything or whatever and will ask to be put back into the wheelbarrow and taken back to the ocean. They say goodbye but he never really leaves. He stretches his fins in the ocean for a while. Staying low enough that Bucky can't see him from the shore or lighthouse but never returning to the ocean depths. Eventually, sheepishly, Steve turns up back on Bucky's dock.

They don't make comments on how or why he's back. Bucky is simply happy to have him back.

Steve gains weight.

It usually doesn't hit Bucky, how Steve is changing, until he takes him from the shore back to his home with him after his adventure alone. He stops looking for the signs of his changing body when he's always in the tub, day after day...

He really does change though. First, he gains enough weight that Bucky can no longer spot and count each of his ribs but instead looks healthy. Then he looks a little husky... some of the weight goes to his muscles, sure, but calories seem to favor becoming fat when in his body. Then he's chubby. His stomach rounds out first, a little pot belly that grows larger until its a gut, but subtlety, all the while, his hips and tail catch up to his gut by filling out wider and wider with blubber. His pecs fill out too. Little chubby tits that match his swollen tummy and his thick tail. He gains weight until he looks so soft that Bucky kind of wants to either grab him and sink his fingers into his blubber or he wants to bite him. To feel how soft he is.

He gains and gains, stuffing himself with human food and hardly swimming. Just sitting and plumping up in Bucky's tub. Waited on hand and foot (tail?), stuffed with more food than he could ever hope to catch.

And Steve. Well, Steve just eats and responds to Bucky's prompts or questions or general conversation between bites. Bucky leans against the bathroom wall or the side of the tub and talks between his trips to the kitchen. He never gets tired of feeding Steve or talking to him.

Somewhere along the way, they also become Bucky and Steve. Getting together. Bucky doesn't really know when or how that happens. He's very glad it does though...

Once, when Steve genuinely wants to stretch his fins and isn't pretending to go back into the wild, Bucky struggles to lift him up. He's truly fat now. He forgets how fat he's gotten. It seems like that stick-thin, angular merman is so far away. Besides, Steve looks much more like himself fat. Its hard to describe but fat Steve looks more like Steve than a half-starved, haunted merman.

Steve gets into the wheelbarrow with Bucky's assistance, he swims for a hour or so (only an hour?? he felt like it was so much longer... has swimming always been that exhausting?!), then returns to the tub and, oh-

He doesn't fit very well in the bathtub anymore.

Fat belly. Fat tail. Fat tits. Fat arms. Fat. Fat. Fat. Steve is fat. Too fat for Bucky's bathtub, evident by the tight feeling of his big body pressed against the cold porcelain. Too fat to swim away from sharks or predators but also too fat too catch fish in the ocean. He's no longer slim, no longer slipping quickly through the water. He lumbers now, especially on land. Clumsy and fat.

Both Steve and Bucky pause, staring at each other. Steve wedged in the tub. Bucky bent over him, looking down at the mountain of blubber he makes. His tummy especially.

Fuck.

It's been an entire year since they've known each other now, winter melting into spring, hinting at summer all over again, and Bucky promises that come spring and summer, he'll begin digging out an in-ground pool for Steve to live in. Something he can't outgrow.

"I'll have my own zoo then, huh? A live-in zoo with my pet whale. All to myself to spoil and play with, yeah?"

Steve squirms where he's wedged. His blush works down from his forehead to his soft chest. His nipples are hard. His belly has had time to digest from his swim and he aches to have Bucky stuff him full again. He wants to be rock-hard under his layer of blubber. Bloated and stuffed so full that Bucky can press down with his fingers and feel it.

He wants to be fed so big that Bucky won't be able to pick him up. Outgrown the tub and wheelbarrow...

By the time the pool is dug and water is rushing into it, ground water and salt water and rain, near the end of summer Steve really can't fit himself in the tub. His fat sides squish out over the edge. His tail is about as wide as the tub and sticking his ass down into the tub, then moving, creates suction. So much so that he almost can't shift in the tub without help. His gut and incredibly intensely stretch mark-ed sides are always dry, sticking out of the top lip of the tub. He is huge. A whale. Not a little mermaid, slim and svelte as he was when he first showed up. Now he's covered in bubbler and stretch marks and fat and rolls and he has trouble swimming. He has trouble moving, with or without Bucky's help. When swimming, Steve can't really dive, his blubber makes him too buoyant. But he can float on his back, like an otter. Belly to the sky.

His belly is his biggest part of him. To the point that he looks SWOLLEN. Pumped full. Strained around the constant snacks and meals and desserts.

Everyday when Bucky finishes cooking breakfast, he greets his boyfriend by humming, "good morning, whale," and every time it makes Steve shudder inside, hot for it.

He might already be a whale but he's seen bigger whales. He wants to be bigger.

The move from tub to pool is extremely slow and strenuous. They have to stop twice to get Steve snacks before they're done. Bucky jokes that it's unfair that he's so hungry because it means that he's heavier for the rest of the journey to the pool 😤

Not that Bucky doesn't want him bigger or heavier, of course.

Steve loves his pool (other than the part where he has to swim more often but don't worry, he just starts eating more and he gets some muscles under all of that fat)!! He gets to feel the sunshine and breeze and he keeps getting all the same amount of food too. It's lovely. He's even happier. A little ball of lard. Endlessly round with roll after roll, stacked up around his dome of a gut. He's more fat than anything else, spending his days in the shallow end of the pool with Bucky feeding him until he literally can't eat another bite, moaning and surrendering.

Bucky climbs on top of him like that, Steve so fat that he's held down to the bottom of the pool, even in a few inches of water, heavy, and straddles his tail. Rutting his dick against his blubber-thick tail and burying his face in Steve's obscenely round belly (his arms have to be spread wide to reach the ground around his round gut). Stuffed, PACKED full of his love in food form.

Bucky gasps and moans and works himself into a frenzy on top of him. And all the while Steve simply enjoys, drunk on food and arousal, wet with burning hot desire but... again, he's food-drunk, body slugging through all the fat and grease and flavor, so he can wait while Bucky gets himself off.

Bucky could fuck Steve, his slit gets wet and would hold the shape of him sort of like a vagina but usually he can't wait. Bucky needs it now.

Bucky mouths at his soft fat over his hard, packed tight belly, and humps him. Splashing water all over. About to come and muttering, crazed, about how big his whale is. His prized whale... whining about how blubbery and huge his trophy whale is. Bigger than everyone else and yet he's still going to get bigger. A growing, greedy whale. Bucky keeps going, winding himself and Steve up by promising that he's going to go to the town on the mainland next time and buy everything he can, every type of food, and stuff all of it into him so he can make more blubber. Get bigger. His whale. He loves his big, fat, huge whale. Fat enough and full enough that he can't even swim. He can't move. All he can do is get bigger, fatter, larger. His whale.

Bucky comes, splattering messily over Steve's gut. The part of his whale he's made the largest. Steve moans because as crazed as Bucky is for this, Steve is more. He's the one who's put on so much weight that he's unrecognizable. He is the one still opening his mouth.

So, yeah, extremely fat merperson Steve 🥵

A Poolside Rendezvous

Natasha slipped into the pool room, engaging the locks behind her as she headed over to the deep end, where Steve’s lithe form could be seen morosely swimming back and forth. He hasn’t taken too well to becoming a merman, but he had comfortable accommodations in what had been Tony’s private pool.

Despite the frequent fish jokes Tony cracked, he was doing his best to help Steve. But After six weeks, they were no closer to an answer and Steve was feeling pretty discouraged.

“Rogers!” She called out.

Even through the water, Steve’s super sensitive hearing heard her call and he swiftly broke the surface, looking quite surprised.

“Nat! I thought you were still in Prague.”

He shook water out of his hair like a puppy and Natasha couldn’t help but smile.

“I saddled Clint with the final reports and came home early. I missed you, handsome. It’s about time we had some alone time.”

She gave him her most suggestive smirk and Steve gulped, smile faltering a bit.

“You’re still sure you want to be with me?” He asked hesitatingly. “There's been no progress on reversing this.”

Natasha knelt at the edge of the pool and took his worried face in her hands. Steve had been dealing with a lot of uncertainty and insecurity along with the adjustment to

“I love you, Steve,” she told him, looking him square in the eye. “ After everything we went through together, I’m not throwing this away because you have a shiny tail. Now, perk up, soldier. I have a surprise for you.”

She stood back up and stripped out of her shorts and tank top, revealing her brand new swimsuit underneath. It was the most daring thing she’d worn since the Odessa shooting and didn’t hide her scar at all.

Steve’s eyes widened and his face flushed. He’d never seen her in a bikini before and the reaction was totally worth it.

“Well, do I look terrible?” she asked teasingly, bringing back their memorable conversation from 2014.

Steve laughed. “Just awful.” he said in a low voice that clearly meant the exact opposite. “Get in here, Nat.”

She dove in, leading him on a little chase around the pool before she had to come up for air and he caught her in his arms, grinning down at her.

“Hmm. The only time I can out maneuver Natasha Romanoff,” he murmured. “I’m gonna enjoy this.”

“You’d better,” she retorted, panting a bit. “It won’t last long.”

He kissed her deeply and she clutched him tightly as she kissed back, Her feet brushed against his scaly lower body and she felt Steve shudder before he broke the kiss, pupils very wide and breathing hard.

“You’re sure nobody’s spying on us?”He questioned, looking around the room as if checking for cameras. When one lived in Stark Tower, that was a very valid question.

“Oh, I made sure,” she confirmed. “Tony knows what will happen if he tries anything. In addition, I have Bucky distracting him. He can’t resist the chance to discuss prosthetic arms.”

Steve chuckled and kissed her forehead.

“That’s my Nat. Always prepared. One of the many reasons I love you.“

He wrapped his tail fin around her feet in what felt like a caress and it was her turn to shudder slightly at the sensation and melt against his sturdy chest. Yes, she would be sticking with Steve no matter what.

Honestly, Steve and Tony need all the outside help they can get, my god, idiots in love is exactly right. I really love the humor in this one, and Bucky and Natasha's banter especially. This fic is adorable, and I hope you give it a shot!

Crouching Genius, Hidden Soulmate

Reasons why I love it: You had me at Angelica. This fic is so sweet! I love all the little tidbits like Rhodey and Pepper's daughter and Steve's career that really flesh out the world. And of course, I'm a huge fan of Hamilton playing a major role in this fic. I love this one so much, so I hope you give it a shot (and don't throw it away, badum tz).

Paper Crowns and Secret Keepers

Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 5,564 Tags: No Powers, A/B/O, Teacher Steve

Summary: Steve Rogers did not play favorites. He’d been one of the kindergarten teachers at Allensville Academy since he got out of graduate school and that was one of his key pedagogical beliefs - no playing favorites. But lands alive, if Peter Stark wasn’t testing his resolve.

Reasons why I love it: Aaaaaah not Flame subverting expectations in the best possible way, I am LIVING! Tony the not-alpha just breaks your heart once you learn about the circumstances that made his secrets necessary, and I love the political undertones throughout the fic in general. Also, Mairi (Askafroa) made some truly fantastic art for this that you desperately need to see if you haven't already, it's the cutest! This fic is amazing, and I hope you check it out for yourself!

A Totally Normal Dad

Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 3,103 Tags: Identity Porn, Parenting, Canon Divergence

Summary: Steve is a totally normal, boring, suburban, stay-at-home-dad. He's also a superhero. His husband only knows the first sentence.

Reasons why I love it: The Incredibles, but make it Stony. I really love how this ties into canon, and oh my god, that paragraph about Steve wanting to grow old with Tony made me genuinely emotional. Also, Steve and Tony are so sweet with Peter, it makes me want to cry. This fic is amazing, and I highly encourage you to read it!

Summary: Sure, a man could fall in love with a merman - but where would they make out?

Reasons why I love it: They're so fucking cute, ugh, I love them. Tony doing his level best to make life more comfortable for Steve is so sweet, and oh my god, the ending puts the biggest smile on my face. I also love the way Steve's merman-ism works and the cameos of the other Avengers in texting-form. This fic is delightful, and I hope you give it a go!
