might as well make an intro
Hello. This blog is not and isn't claiming to be associated with the Canadian government pls don't sue me.
This is a gimmick/roleplay blog for the country of Canada. There are two other Canadas on Tumblr @definitely-canada and @canada-official who are also pretty cool. (If you don't want to be tagged sorry, and I can delete this)
Things about the mod of this blog, I'm aspec neptunic and fluidflux (genderfluid and genderflux) in simple terms. I have various forms of synesthesia the ones important to note for this blog are olp and graphe color. As for example, c is beige a is red n is brown (well specific shades but this intros getting long). I have trust issues and probably long term depression that is getting better sometimes? And am in general an anxious reck who's worried people will leave or hate or be scared of me. Back to lighter stuff, I'm Canadian, and like using emoticons. And am plural, specifically a Median System.
I have made multiple Canada personas ocs whatever you call them because I can't help but project. So now Canada is plural.
The main Canada is the most calm and chill and sane and put together,
Tumblr media
Then there's dark Canada, their the chaotic one of the bunch. And is the personification of Canada's dark side basically. They can come off as evil, but they love their fellow Canada's more then anything,
Tumblr media
then last but not least, must be protected at all coasts Canada. Their just a little baby pls protect them
Tumblr media
I'll probably talk in a plural stand point sometimes so we'll use we/us and I/me when roleplaying but one of us might talk on our own, of that happens we'll say who's talking.
Also will do this if it's specifically the mod talking.
If not then assume it's Canada in general/collectively talking or the main Canada not feeling they need to sign off.
Thank you for reading!

You are too kind, and I think we can drop some formalities such as thanking if they're too bothersome to keep repeating.
Now you've got me intrigued about what Beckett whips up. What do you enjoy, apart from the gummy worms? What are you reading currently?
Thoughts on Synesthesia? Currently, it does come into the broad category of mental disorders, do you think it belongs there?
What do you think about Luminal spaces? Do the Regrettables have favourite luminal spaces? I reckon it should be easy for fairies to work undetected in such areas.
Beckett, what do you enjoy doing? How's Gloop? Any shenanigans I can tag along with? Has Whistleblower discovered Ghost Peppers/Bhut Jhulakia yet? I think you came up with a Regrettables song—might I suggest matching Gloop ties in orange silk?
Well, Ambassador Lazuli is kind. I too accidentally acquire plants and books more often than not.
What are your areas of interests, then? Apart from picking apart Dr. Fowl's contributions? (Is calling him Dr. Fowl okay, decorum, politeness and our friendship-wise?)
Do you two think, that coming to terms that there are different types of intelligence (with none being superior) and coming to terms that someone people general look up to as ideal/prodigious/genius is still human with flaws and feelings is a sign of emotional realization?
I offer Beckett dark chocolates of his choice and Ms. Juliet (is it okay if I call you that?) this year's subscription of her favorite wrestling channels.
Warm regards and (enthusiastic cheers)
Apologies for the late reply. Mother took us on an involuntary trip to Nice.
Synaesthesia is certainly a topic that invokes thought. It sounds like an interesting way to perceive the world. If the definition of mental disorder is 'a mental experience differing from what is considered typical' then yes. However, if the definition is 'a mental experience that hinders progress, can make one's life difficult and/ or can cause harm to a person' then no.
Other than gummy worms, I enjoy mashed potatoes, smoked salmon with cream cheese, and various sandwiches. I have exhausted any non-fictional books that are of interest to me, so I have delved into the works of Isaac Asimov for extremely light reading. I also enjoy Lemony Snicket.
Surprisingly, I have developed an interest in musical theatre. Before we created NANNI to censor our entertainment, I listened to 'Beautiful,' 'Meant to be Yours,' and 'Candy Store' from 'Heathers: The Musical.' 'Beetlejuice' is quite enjoyable. Before this infernal lockdown Mother took Beckett and I to go see 'Six,' which tends to get stuck in one's head quite easily, and is not completely accurate, but enjoyable nevertheless. Now that we do not have to watch 'Laurel and Hardy' every movie night so that Dr Fowl also watches, we watched 'Hamilton.' It has since become my favourite musical. I see no problem with calling Dr Fowl 'Dr Fowl.'
I am going to assume you meant 'liminal' spaces and not 'luminal spaces.' I do not know enough about the topic to know if there are specific types, but I prefer laboratories at the crack of dawn. Ambassador Heitz likes shuttles in the dead of night.
hiiiii this is beckettttttttttt HELLO FRIENDO i like the kitchen in the afternoon and whistleblower likes the bottom of a curry bowl in after eating the curry
i enjoy WORMS!!! also i can sing yorktown, guns and ships, the reynolds pamphlet, the schuyler sisters, alexander hamilton, yorktown, youll be back and i know him by heart!!!!!!!!
we almost lost gloop in nice... 😅but hes ok now
ghost chillies are too bland for whistleblower, so he only eats them when his stomach cant handle too much spice
THE REGRETTABLES SONG IS AWESOME AND WE SHOULD DEF GET MATCHING TIES!!!!!!!! but nobody uses the song except whistleblower and me. occasionaly lazuli joins in though!! :DDDDDDD
THANK YOU FOR THE CHOCOLATE jules says thanks for the subscription but she cant accept it mainly because she usually has front row seats which her boss gives her or shes actually wrestling in the match
BYYYYEEEEEEEE CHEERS TO YOU TOOOO

Bulgaria brings a mentally reassuring anthem to Rotterdam 2021
youtube
I’ve said so that VICTORIA herself sort of agreed to have done “Tears Getting Sober” if she was allowed to, but for one I have to thank that EBU said that the artists can’t have their 2020 songs back? You’ll see why when I get to the review after two boring paragraphs of text with technical info, for the country that is Bulgaria!
ARTIST & ENTRY INFO
Victoria Georgieva (or VICTORIA, but I can’t be arsed to continuously capitalize her name so I’ll just say Victoria from now on) was born a singer, for she started to sing at the age 11, went to a specific school of angel voices (no really that’s what it was called), and tried to go to the X Factor while a liiiiiittle too young until realizing that she needed to wait for a few years, and wait a few years she did, and went on to the X Factor again.
youtube
She didn’t win, but she still got to sign a contract and sing some stuff in Bulgarian before she decided to rebrand, started singing in English, and completely decided that ballads is her style. She cannot really do upbeat most of the time. So you can’t really have a bop from her in the future. (Well except that there’s a couple of songs in her discography that I personally classify as “bops” but they’re more like... idek sad bops?? but they can be danced to, but I get her, she doesn’t do anything that’s more loud and upbeat and clubby and summery kind of - in short, nothing you can go “YAAASSSS QUEEEEEN” over to.)
The entry she ended up singing, “Growing Up Is Getting Old”, is what I can describe to be about overcoming the emotional twists and turns inside of you as you grow older, because as it turns out, it ain’t what you thought it would be - but if you push just a little further, you realize that if you’re growing up, maybe the life isn’t so bad, afterall - you are able to get up. Somehow. It was written as part of Boris-Milanov-led songwriting camp held during summer, and a lot of people seemed to be a part of it because multiple different folk have songwriting credits on the potential Bulgarian entries this year.
REVIEW
Let’s get this out of the way immediately. I prefer “Growing Up Is Getting Old” to “Tears Getting Sober”. The former sounds a lot less irritatingly underwhelming and a lot more positively overwhelming you with warm emotions and sunglow. “Tears Getting Sober” was a song I could never really connect with - maaaaybe the last chorus is much better on there, but it doesn’t do much for me either, I guess.
Their 2021 forray however is a much different kind of thing - once again, going for lyrical non-cliches, Victoria tells a tale about her inner turmoils and continuing in life, in a way that’s personal to her and also kind of relatable to all of us. We all have these moments of fear and anxiety and nervous systems aching. If only there was someone who’d tell us that we’re worth saving... thanks a lot Victoria, you’re the MVP. Filling in the void that Netherlands from last year had brought us but not anymore - another personal song about getting old and having those kind of feelings inside - and doing a great job at taking the baton in the right way (even with featuring the word “grow” in both of the titles, neat coincidence).
Not only the lyrics feel like a hug, the song just emulates ray of sunshine and golden glitter coming down from the sky, Molly Sanden style. The violins in the G major key playing so precisely, building up momentum throughout the entire song, slowly but surely - starting with the ticking clock in the first verse that may have subtle violin in there; and the first chorus is just so simple piano, and then the second chorus has a tinge of electronic something, and the last chorus goes full in with the backing vocals boosting the song, after Victoria performs the quite magnificent bridge... now I don’t have synesthesia but I associate music keys with colors, and to me G major would always come across as something yellow or orange - “Growing Up Is Getting Old” is a perfect example of why’s that for me. And obviously, Victoria’s love for harmony-humming (even if there’s just one instance of it after she sings “star crossed soul”) complements the song to a T.
And it turned out to be a much better choice than last year’s. Maybe finally a female ballad I am getting behind.
Now I wanna know why the bookies don’t appreciate THIS entry as much as last year?
Granted, now it’s 2021 and the environment is so much different, and the songs have changed, and the dynamics have changed, and now there’s suddenly more competition at stake. And for Bulgaria it fares quite much more underwhelmingly - well, at this moment they’re like 6th, which isn’t bad, but there’s a lack of sung praises coming its way, not quite a feat that “Tears Getting Sober” actually achieved, being the bookies fave right before the cancellation of last year. In general the year has been pretty dry for the previous winner picks like Iceland, Lithuania and this, but I can’t say that the previous winner bets from 2020 are all that dead either? Though I gotta say that Bulgaria wasn’t gonna win 2020 anyway, so it’s a lose-lose in this case.
Also I just can’t at that music video being a little dramatic at the beginning, with the cancellation of Eurovision being presented as if it were a worldwide disaster during which we all shall lock ourselves into bunkers and wait until the better days, eventhough the panini is not war and war supplies kit is not just enough to survive it. But it seems like that the world is quite literally falling apart, as evidenced by Victoria going through all kinds of pathways away from her living room, meeting a  (presumably) mini version of her somewhere in between, and literally surrounded by the shaking environment by the last moments of the song
Tumblr media
before we realize it was just reality recursing from the TV’s point of view that Victoria was watching all along, and then she leaves the living room again, but in her world, everything is normal and she could just go wherever she wants by car. Even I can’t come up with a storyline ending that’s somewhat intertwined and all plot-twisty and more confusing than that. But props to her team I guess
Approval factor: Let’s say I somewhat approve this message. Follow-up factor: For the sake of argument let me just say that Bulgaria is moving on a great path, eventhough the former entry leaves me cold, at least the current entry keeps me warm at all times, like a cup of cocoa and a good blanket. Please Bulgaria, never run out of sponsors. Qualification factor: I’ve seen one or two people throw around the “surprise NQ” tag for this song and I don’t get why??? There’s no way that the tense atmosphere of semifinal 2 would sure-fire-ly kill Bulgaria, even if they have a lot less chances to win this year than they had the last one. There can be some shock NQs indeed though, and if there are, I am paging... uhhhhh Finland? Idk why but you might see what I mean if I ever get around to reviewing “Dark Side”. Bulgaria? Never. It may not win the semi but it will cradle around the top 7 somehow.
INTERNAL NF CORNER
That’s right, Bulgaria managed to do both.
At the time when one other of Bulgaria’s songs got released, within the *Special* Eurovision September 1st-onwards range, people naturally succumbed to their primal instinct of asking whether that’s her Eurovision song... only for Vic to probably announce this early on that no, it’s just *one* of potential ESC entries she’s harbouring. And the remaining potential ones were all on her debut EP. Who actually got a more well-orchestrated schedule for everyone to follow, and yet, people were much more keen to cling on the first EP song out of the gate, “Imaginary Friend”. Now I get that the fans of that song were super upset at the revelation that IF is not going, but it is a technically strong song for the sake of being a technically strong song, and I don’t want to think that Victoria is only forced to choose the songs that can win for her, so she’s such a sweetheart for gravitating towards a song she could dearly care about. So props to her team saving the initial winner for last to be revealed, lol.
Though wasn’t her personal favourite a Billie-Eilish-lite-upbeat-kinda-track Phantom Pain?
youtube
Which was also my personal favourite?
Look, I know that favouring the only non-ballad in the whole lineup (well “Ugly Cry” is also not quite a ballad but its beat is kinda so-so, so I tend to ignore it) is kinda sus, also, y’all are sick to death to Billie Eilish comparisons, but I do believe that Billie would never be able to do an “Imaginary Friend” while Victoria could do a “Lovely”. This makes me remember the cover art of Billie’s debut album where she sits on her bed, dressed in white, and so is Victoria on this very MV, with strange shit going on behind her in the mirror. To the mirror, her reflection acts creepy, back again.
The other 2 I don’t feel like caring about enough, sure they got their cred, sure there’s one entry properly crediting Milanov (who seems to not have an actual entry this year that’s purely attributed to *him*, as opposed to 3 last year, 2 of which were performed by acts that returned this year????), sure there’s the funny thing about having a funeral song where out of this and Finland only Austria managed to send a quote unquote “funeral” song, but I think the funeral song would’ve sounded better if the pre-section of it on the “Phantom Pain” video was THE “funeral” song itself, and not whatever was that other funeral song.
In between there was a public sort of survey where people could submit feedback and positive words to Vic’s choices to help her decide - I didn’t get to vote but I feel fine with the winner eitherway, and that counts for something! And the end result was revealed at the very end of Victoria’s very own rooftop concert.
youtube
The colors on the circle thingy of this, they were meant to symbolize all Bulgarian entries up to Victoria’s 2nd one, in pictograms that kind of reminded me of Coldplay attributing every song on ‘Mylo Xyloto’ its own little symbol.
The concert was not only full of music and also adverts for the inaugural sponsor iCard (that also included some element of foreshadow in between the suspense, you’ll see why), but also the Bulgarian folk talking before each song, saying all the positive nice words they can for Vic; that she’s talented, and that they were so excited that Bulgaria was doing well in the odds last year prior to cancellation, bla bla bla... also some people were proud of voting for Bulgaria outside Bulgaia, and they made puns about the forthcoming songs on the concert that they were introducing, and so on, and there was also someone called Dara, whom I really want to be sent by Bulgaria one day to show off that they’re not afraid of doing trashy-esque bops that don’t necessarily win
Tumblr media
Also they reminded me that Lucy from No Angels (aka the sole reason Bulgaria 12′d Germany in 2008) still exists.
Tumblr media
Also Azis.
Tumblr media
There was also an intermission where Eurovision 2021 acts could say all the nice words to Victoria on their own part. And several artists chose to... how shall I put it... use up their several seconds rather interestingly. Like how The Roop would say something real quick only to delve into more of their usual “let’s dance, let’s discoteque! *hand scissors* ;P” self-promo, and Senhit carelessly being allowed to say whatever she wants in Italian without subtitles <3 Sorry sis, they’re only given to people from another white-green-red flag-color country.
About the iCard foreshadow... so there’s their advert about Victoria waiting in the line to get something in the Soft Vocals Store, and people ahead of her giving her money the standard oldfashioned way, and the old lady at the counter is... slow, to say the least. After a good amount of time spent waffling around, Victoria finally pulls out the iCard application and pays for the imaginary items she wants, then narrates some stuff about said application, and a Eurovision entry of hers plays when the old lady is at home, spending time in front of TV enjoying the music. Before the concert, the song that played was “Tears Getting Sober”. The advert played once more before Victoria’s big entry decision and entry MV reveal, and in place of the 2020 entry, “Growing Up Is Getting Old” was the one that sounded out loud... Now you may think that there were attempts at some sort of spoilage here, but after that ad before the concert EP NF result, there was this other advert starring Victoria that played “Imaginary Friend” at the end, a last-ditch effort to trick viewers into going “see? just because that ad played the chosen song doesn’t mean it’s the chosen song!! this song could as well be a chosen song as well!!” yeah no shut up GUIGO IS the chosen song kthxbyebye.
ANY LAST WORDS?
Having said all that praise, I actually have “Growing Up Is Getting Old” fairly low on my ranking. It’s just because the year is so damn good and I have a lot more songs to care about more than this, but I appreciate the gesture that this singer is sending very much. Good luck on your road to conquer Europe, Victory-ia, I’m sure you get the best of the experience and all, because you would deserve it.

Rules: answer 21 questions and tag 21 people you want to get to know better…
thank you @atticweirdo for tagging me, it was a nice thing to wake up to!
1. Nickname: i go by aphelion online! or my real name but i’d rather just friends call me that. i’ve been going by aphelion for a long time, it’s a pretty word to me
2. Zodiac sign: pisces
3. Height: taller than i thought!!! ....which is 5'4".
4. Last movie I watched: uhh, i don't think i've watched a movie recently? last thing i binge watched was nge again, but the entire 26 episodes (i think it was 26), not the movie. i'm really picky with movies anyway and i lose my attention really fast and never finish them lmao
5. Last thing I Googled: looks like i was looking up stuff about c# because a friend of mine was talking about it (the coding language)
6. Favorite musician: still love radiohead and muse. echo and the bunnymen is a good one.
7. Songs stuck in my head: climbing up the walls by radiohead
8. Other blogs: @ghostparadoxa, and my art blogs which i need to update (@supervoidart and i have a doodle blog)
9. Blogs I'm following: 86 on here, i like it feeling relaxed. probably should find more blogs though
10. Amount of sleep: i need 9 to feel rested, anything under 8 is hellish, anything above 10 is also hellish. i deal with a lot of insomnia as well, sometimes i can't sleep for days at a time and it's miserable.
11. Lucky number: when i was a kid it was 2, 4, and 12. i really like the number 9 now.
12. What am I wearing: a shirt from babezord's shop on etsy, it's really cool! and boxers. i just got out of bed recently
13. Dream job: ugh anything that has to do with programming or biology. i fucking love code and i fucking love biology. i live for this shit.
14. Dream trip: the alps....... that's all.
15. Favorite food: i don't really enjoy food all that much. i eat so i'm not hungry. i sometimes go days without eating if i'm not careful, and cooking isn't enjoyable especially if i don't care to eat what i'm making. i've been good about it lately though! i do enjoy fruit, it's easy and simple enough for me to eat. i've realized i'm allergic to a lot of them, though. i can't eat peaches and plums much anymore, and bananas are risky. apple are a no. strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and pomegranate are still safe at least. idk about stuff like pineapple.
16. Play an instrument: piano has always intrigued me. violin is pretty. i also like pipe organs haha
17. Languages: english. i took a couple years of german but i don't remember much. i've been trying to teach myself it again through various online resources. i want to learn french too. and japanese, because it seems like a challenge. russian sounds fun too.
18. Describe yourself in aesthetic things: hm this is hard because i struggle to know how i'm perceived so i'll use one-word traits other people have said about me and try to turn it into an aesthetic/scene.
- a deep canyon. when you look down, you can barely see the ground below. it's so far away you can't make it out clearly. you can't see the other side of the canyon either, it's covered by a dense fog. you don't know what's beyond it. it's quiet here, and there's a chill in the air. you're curious, and you want to wait for the fog to clear, but it doesn't look like it's going to lift any time soon.
- the deep ocean. the abyss. there's a lot going on far below you, but you don't know what it is. it doesn't seem comforting though. but you don't mind lying on the surface. you're not worried about whatever's down there coming up to bite you. it'll stay there, and the waves here are gentle and the sunlight is warm, so why leave?
19. Favorite Songs: i might be wrong - radiohead (this one just feels like me. i don't know how to explain it. if you want to listen to any of them i'd say listen to this one!), go slowly - radiohead (another one that sounds like me!!), how to disappear completely - radiohead, space dementia - muse (especially the 20th anniversary remix ugh it's so good), ocean rain - echo and the bunnymen, shine on you crazy diamond - pink floyd. i heard this one in the past years ago and it didn't stick with me. it came up again recently and just felt right. idk, i'm really picky with my music and what sounds right in the moment. but the first 3 have been my favorite songs for like 7 years so go with those.
20. Random fact: i have synesthesia! the way i observe and interact with the world is heavily influenced by it. it influences how i perceive my own emotions, my personality, my gender, my entire self. it influences my interests, and the people i like to be around. for example, the other day i couldn't tell how i was feeling, and i described it as feeling like a glass fishhook with electricity flowing through it. i was in physical pain, which felt like bubbles popping and vibrant waves of light shooting up my spine. people usually can't tell what i mean by this, and it's weird to me because it makes perfect sense in my head. it's like another language only i can understand.
i don't really know who to tag specifically, but if we're mutuals feel free to do this and say i tagged you!

🔗💀Linked Souls
Tumblr media
in the Digital Cabaret’s lobby
All four of the Mystery Skulls investigators found themselves in a calmly lit room with skull decor. It was quaint to say the least. There were also musical instruments like guitars and old fashion keyboards on the walls as well like it was a recording studio. All of them were laying on the same large circular sofa with two tables.
Lewis: What… The hell… just happened…? Guys?
Vivi: Just a few more minutes okay Lew. I swear… mar
Vivi rolled back sleeping with her plush turtle that she kept in her backpack before they headed out.
Arthur: (yawn) Can you keep it down… Whoa OH HOLY SHIT! Where are we guys? This can’t get any weirder man.
Mystery: *soft barking* (I must keep a low profile for now. I have a feeling that we’re not… in our world anymore. I sense four none hostile souls and least one that’s harbors some justifiable apprehension towards us.)
Lewis is the only one who could hear Mystery via supernatural telepathy.
Lewis: Huh? I hear voices from outside…
Lewis along with Mystery and Arthur put their heads on the double doors to listen in.
Teenage Male Voice: I don’t know if this is a good Idea Doc. They seem sketchy as hell if you ask me. Especially the ghost rider reject in particular.
Calm Female Voice: I’m sure hun, my tombsona can since people’s intentions right away. They seem to be looking for someone or something whom was involved with the murder of the young man in the suit who has become a ghost. It’s all I could glean however. But the dog though.. is odd… He’s not a threat to us but that might not be his true form.
Suave German Voice: He could be a lycan… What? It’s possible since that ghost is particularly one that still has his body.
Mystery: *tilts his head* (A lycan? As in a werewolf? He also knows that Lewis is a special case as well.)
Softer Male Voice: …
Strangely Familiar Voice: What’s that Armstrong? You think that we should meet them one by one? Maybe 2 by 2 would work better. I would rather meet them later… I’m still having a hard time processing this whole situation. I just woke up after all.
Lewis: Wait?… Is that the? (Is that the guy singing in that weird dream from earlier? Could it be that comatose guy who was begging for help? It’s modulated a bit but it’s that voice I heard. I just know it.)
Mystery: whimper (Lewis? You look like you’ve seen a ghost. You know that voice?)
Lewis: Uhh… I could’ve sworn I heard his voice before. (he said softly)
Calm Female Voice: Don’t worry cher. We’ll go first. Come on Rust since you’ve been itching to meet them.
All three backed up from the door so they wouldn’t get hit.
Teenage Male Voice: WHAT!? Why the hell me? Why not Tesla, Armstrong, or even your… Hey don’t give me that look. Dammit okay fine… let’s meet them already. (mumbles in Spanish)
Lewis: Tch… (Yeah you’re already gonna be a pain in the ass from the get go. Must be a high schooler or somethin’.)
Strangely Familiar Voice: Wait! I changed my mind. I’m very curious about these people from another universe.
The double doors open and two individuals come out. One was a woman who had discolored blue skin with glowing neon blue paint. And she had flowing hair that acted like willow wisps. She also had the attire of a stage magician with some witch doctor elements. The most noteworthy thing about her was the navy blue mask with glowing cyan eyes and outlines that took up most of the top portion of her face. She could even be mistaken for a ghost like Lewis.
Vivi: OMG, she’s… so… cool! Oh man I wish I had that classy outfit she’s wearing. I could match with Lewis for once.
Mystery: *tilting his head groaning* (She’s certainly someone Vivi and Lewis could get along with very well. Maybe she patched us up from that elevator.)
Doc: My name is Doc or you could call me Ms. Doc for convenience. I’m the drummer for The Living Tombstone. Next to me is zero_one. He’s our keyboardist and composer. He also does the vocals as well.
The other individual was a tall svelte man who was shorter than Lewis but slightly taller than Arthur.  He looked like he was wearing a skin tight jump suit with yellow circuit lines with an orange fade to them. In the center of his torso is a rectangle that looks like a microchip with a heart beat indicator. He also was wearing a helmet that had a plume of golden orange hair made out of plasma and a pair of headphones. But what really caught Lewis’s attention was the LED skull with a bolt shaped crack on the right. He recognizes him as that guy from that dream he while he was passed out on that mining elevator. Almost immediately both of them blurted out…
Lewis & zero_one in unison : Do I know you from somewhere? But how?
Lewis : Hold up… Um Hey… (Aw man this shit just got weird already.)
zero_one : Uh… Hi there… (Oh… awkward.)
Arthur: Welp… This just got awkward and weird fast. What is going on here man? You recognize the dude with the mohawk?
Lewis : It’s a…
Rust: Oh that does it… I’m going in. What flying fu…. oh… This is already got a weird vibe. Who the hell are you people anyway? AND You yes you the ghost rider reject how do you recognize our front man hah?
Lewis : growls (Great another asshole with a green motif. But he’s some kind of punk who’s just got outta high school).
sigh (trying to contain his anger) I’m not sure, I just seen someone like him that’s all…
Stoping the young man in biker attire with the green skull mask from lunging at Lewis was a slightly older gentleman who’s color scheme was similar to Lewis’s. He had the attire of a mad scientist with a winter hat.
Tesla: Can you not be hasty Rust for just a moment. They are not a threat to us remember. Herr Geist (german : Mr. Ghost) I still have so many questions. How did you find the elevator to this universe?
Lewis : Umm… (Who the hell is this guy? He looks like he just stepped out of an anime or a game or something.)
Long story short but it may sound batshit crazy ; we were chasin’ a dismembered gang green arm with a single black eye. Did ya’ll see him.
Rust: uhh… what? What kinda story is that? You must be tripping on something really strong to come up with that.
Behind the slightly befuddled young man in the green was a larger skull faced man with a burnt space suit who’s glowing red. He looks like he’s trying to calm things down before a fight breaks out between Lewis and Rust.
Armstrong : … signing (I believe we all need to calm down first before we get our stories out there. I’m Armstrong gentlemen, lady, and… dog. You hail from another universe?)
Lewis : Huh… good point sir. (Why do I know what he’s saying even though I don’t know sign language. This shit really couldn’t get any weirder.)
Lewis then gives a paraphrased version of what Armstrong was saying to rest of the Mystery Skulls gang. Doc explained that Armstrong has tinnitus but can still play the guitar very well despite that. His tomesona can also give some form of synesthesia to compensate for his hearing loss.
Rust: (shakes his head in disbelief) Fine whatever. Names Rust, don’t ya’ll forget it. I do the vocals and rap.
Tesla: Guten Tag, my name is Tesla Herr Geist, Chicken with Mechanical Arm, Mysterious Dog, and Liebshen.
Lewis : *groan of frustration* (Oh that’s effing lovely. He better be usin’ that word as a term of endearment and not trying to flirt with her. But at least he isn’t an annoying little punk like the green one.)
Vivi: Oh how rude of us not to introduce ourselves. We are the Mystery Skulls ; we’re paranormal investigators. I’m Vivi Yukino, I’m the researcher of the group. But my day job is at a used comic book shop called TomeTomb. Oh I also know how to play electric guitar.
Tesla: Oh is that right Liebshen? Very nice indeed.
Armstrong : … (puts both of his thumbs up for approval and nodding)
Doc: Huh, TomeTomb(soft chuckle) what an interesting name. And you are young man?
Arthur: I’m Arthur Kingsmen, I’m just the mechanic of the group and I’m not as interested with this paranormal crap as much as Lewis and Vivi. And I work with my uncle Lance at his auto repair shop called Kingsmen repair. Also I play keyboard and actually own three keytars as well (he said proudly). Ha they almost costed me an arm… and a… (nervous chuckle). Yeah, the arm is a different story though. (he said sheepishly scratching his head.)
Rust: Well it must have… literately. Holy shit man, three of them? Talk about overkill.
Lewis could see zero_one light up like a kid in a candy store as soon as Arthur mentioned his keytars. He could feel this feeling radiating in the core of his locket ; its joy. He then sees zero_one approach Arthur like someone who was reunited with a long lost sibling.
zero_one : Three keytars? (in rapid secession) What brand are they? How did you get them? What year were they made? Do you have any pictures of them?
Arthur: (he had a smile that the rest of the Mystery Skulls gang haven’t seen in months) Really? I have a 1980s Casio, a late 90s Korg, and an early 2000s Yamaha. I had some connections back then and I usually find them used online even though they were still…kinda expensive. And yeah I have pictures of them on my phone, you can come and look if you want.
The Orange-Yellow color coded duo sat next to each other like they just got a new hand held game and rambled on and on about mods and midi plug ins for keytars for a good 20 minutes. Lewis wished that he didn’t go into that cave in the first place. The relationship between Arthur and zero_one was not just like two long lost brothers but it was like his friendship with Arthur before this whole third wheel and ghost thing ever came about. Lewis felt a small pang of guilt before getting interrupted with a question.
Lewis : sigh… (At least Arthur is feelin’ better already after all the shit I put him through. Maybe comin’ here isn’t going to be that bad after all. Just Maybe…)
Rust: Who’s the dog though? Gotta say though he kinda looks badass with the red and black.
Mystery: *shrugs in embarrassment* (Yabai. (Japanese: Oh Crap.) Maybe I shouldn’t show my true form now, maybe wait til they are ready or Vivi or Lewis mention it.)
Vivi: Oh his name is Mystery. He’s our mascot, sorta. I know he isn’t a ghost like my boyfriend over here.
Tesla: Boyfriend ha… Oh well, but you could do so much better then…
Doc: Tesla stop. Lewis is Vivi’s beau, just leave it be. There are other women you know…
Tesla: Uhh. Gut, I’m a man of honor.
Lewis : (Oh sure you are hat guy.)
Okay then, I’m Lewis Pepper and I’m more the guy who handles the heavy equipment in our paranormal investigations. My day job is waiter and chef at my adopted family’s restaurant “Pepper Paradiso”. I also play violin and I am a train vocalist.
Rust: Oh… really? Come on zero_one, me and you, let’s nock this amateur down a peg or two.
zero_one : You’re kind of putting me on the spot here Rust. Lewis did say he was trained, maybe you should’ve not called him that.
Lewis : (narrows his eyes) (Oh, I’ll knock this Rust punk down a peg or two.)
Oh really Rust. Alright I’m game but just you and me. Mono a mono. Let the best vocalist wi…. huh?
Then a feeling comes over both Lewis and zero_one that made both of them and harmonize a beautiful arpeggio that brings all the room in awe. Rust was drowned out by both of them because he was just as shocked as everyone else in the lobby.
Doc: Oh honey, both of ya’ll voices are like two angels. And you thought he was an amateur Rust?
Rust: Well, damn I’ll admit it, you and zero_one won on this one. For now.
Armstrong : … signing
zero_one : interpreting for Armstrong : Well since the introductions are out of the way, I believe you said something about a dismembered arm earlier. Is that the reason why you stumbled into our universe?
Lewis : Well yeah, it said it lead us into a trap or some shit like that. It was also working with someone or something else that wanted to do all of us in.
* Loud Alarm *
A I Voice: Warning security breach detected. / Subject identified as a green dismembered arm that has already made entry into timeline v. / prerecorded transmission from the multi-universal edge by Helvetica.
Helvetica: Something has just breached the reality layline. Sending distress signal to prime universe about Null’s escape. Butterfly effect radiating towards other divergent TLT timelines. Three inter-universal ones from the prime timeline. At least three no… it’s five from the universe MSA (Mystery Skulls universe). I’m making my way to timeline v as soon as possible. End of Transmission.
Lewis : Welp… I can see things have gone to shit already. At least we know where it is now. Might as well go looking for it but we’re do we even freakin’ start huh?
Tesla: I’ll get to the bottom of this, I promise you. My prime self told me about this Null character but… what is it doing at this time period I wonder? Poor fraulein Helvetica sounds like she can’t handle this on her own. She might be proto_type’s student but even a student needs some extra help. We should worry about the four ones from our universe first before the one’s from our visitor’s universe.
zero_one : Wait? There are people from Lewis’s universe that crossed over to this universe too? What’s going on here?
Tesla: It’s most likely a butterfly effect like the distress called mentioned. Oh I believe we already have a lead or two, that’s gut. Really gut.
A I Voice: First sightings found downtown at High May’s Junior, Le Macabre Dance club, and Toriyama’s School for the Arts.
They decide to split up into teams to not only look for the possessed arm but for at least three people from the prime timeline in TLT’s universe.
Mystery, Tesla, and Vivi are going to that Toriyama Art school in Japan since Vivi is fluent in Japanese. Lewis is thankful that Mystery is with her if Tesla tries anything.
Arthur, Rust, and Doc decide head to that Le Macabre Dance club which is in Puerto Rico. Rust apparently knows his way around there.
While Armstrong, Lewis and zero_one head towards a popular hot spot on San Francisco’s Yvette district; more specifically a hole in the wall bar known as High May’s Jr. Lewis decides to go there alone since he can change his form at will unlike Armstrong or zero_one but has agreed to meet up with them later once they found whom ever they are looking for. Armstrong thinks he’s way too conspicuous to be seen in public and decides to rendezvous with this Helvetica woman who made that distress call earlier along with zero_one.
End of Transmission
Lewis :  Well. I still have my ID and all. But I don’t think it’ll matter all that much. I swear this whole thing with timelines , butterfly effect and shit makes me feel like I’m in a very anime video game. Was something like Blaze blue or whatever? Or someone’s fanfic… Umm… Nah, that’s fu_king bonkers.

Creator Wrap 2020
Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 (or so) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. Tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
As I’m typing this it is 5:02 in the morning on the last possible day to finish during 2020 so kudos to me for being a consistent person in SOME aspect skjhfskj
Thanks for tagging me, @beingjanee! When I was looking for stuff I made this year, I was kind of surprised to realize how much stuff I’d started but never finished, or finished but never posted. Granted, some are because I am not at liberty to share them, but mostly it was just because I never got around to it. So there isn’t really much to share from this year, haha. But hey, head start on next year!
Anyways, these are some of the few things that made it outside my brain this year, despite all the Everything™. A fair few of them are co-created, so credit where credit’s due! And thus, in no particular order:
1. Hollow Knight OST - Greenpath (Cover): Somehow in between all the studying and discording and video gaming, I was lucky enough to join my fellow agents of chaos @imperiousheiress and @silent--sonata in making our very own cover of Greenpath from Hollow Knight! Outside of formal band class or choir, I’d never actually made music with other people before, much less online across such drastically different timezones, so this was a SUPER fun little project that came out of this year! And it sounds pretty dang good, if I do say so myself. It also made me realize that if I cannot bring a keyboard or my trumpet to whatever place I end up living/working next I might actually die
2. [Podfic] A Portrait in Synesthesia (based on A Portrait in Synesthesia by @jessicafish): This one is also a collaboration borne of the sheer madness that comes with locking five restless creatives in a groupchat during the first few months of this ridiculous year. But this is no ordinary podfic. Voiced by @d20owlbear, @silent--sonata, @internetkatze, @imperiousheiress, and yours truly, it’s also got cover art for each chapter AND an absolutely gorgeous instrumental track that accompanies it. I remember fondly the anticipation of waiting for Jess’s birthday to come by so we could finally stop sitting on it XD (speaking of, happy very belated half-birthday Jess!!)
3. Laugh Lines and Crow’s Feet: For once I did not chicken out completely when faced with the mortifying ordeal of Making a Background, so I’m definitely proud of at least that much with this piece XD. Also I love any excuse to draw people laughing, so there’s that.
4. Fem Crowley: What started out as an exercise in head angles quickly ended up being an exercise in color. Obviously it looks way more accurate than anything I’d’ve drawn from scratch, but as far as the coloring goes, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out!
5. Good Omens Snake-Off: Drew almost all the line art for this entire thing on the plane ride home after being forcibly punted from the country when the world first started shutting down, so THAT was new. I’ve never drawn that much on a plane before, especially without saving references first (until we landed and I had to google Brother Francis’s face of course), so I’m very pleased with it! (Also it’s just fitting to include the very first thing that came of quarantine lol)
Running out of time to post this before midnight so I’ll edit it later lol
(EDIT: all right it is officially the Gregorian new year and now that the fire alarm has been disarmed I can finish this in peace lol)
And I’d be remiss if I did not at least mention the entirety of the Good Omens Big Bang! I can’t quite tell how much of the work was done in 2019 (which, wild that that was only last year — well, last last year, now), so I didn’t include it, but knowing me, I’m sure 90% of it was done in the week(s) leading up to the February deadlines.
(It’s already 2021 for me, but that’s not the case for all of you, so it’s okay I can still tag people.) Thusly I tag everyone mentioned above and also @theoldaquarian, @runningturnip, @yeswevegotavideo, @queenerdloser, @pachelbelsheadcanon, @fremulon, and everyone else who wants to share some of the things they’ve made in the past year (but no pressure!) Making it through this year was hard enough, so even if it wasn’t a particularly creative year, that’s still plenty to be proud of. And whatever else happened, I’m glad it meant I could meet you all :D
Here’s to a better 2021 for everyone (oh hey that rhymes)! May you and your loved ones experience much more happiness, good health, and fun than in the previous year. And, of course, HAPPY FRIDAY!! (And also New Year I guess)

oohohoho you just opened the deepest can of worms on the planet
-mod dave, who wrote a fucking ten mile essay
first off, addressing the second anon, no theyre all humans. h., half humans at least. cause yall know me i fucking love my humanstuck aus off my ASS
(that would be funny as hell though. a troll from space walking into a camp on earth going “I AM THE SON OF ONE OF YOUR EARTH GODS. BITCH” like... holy shit)
so first things first their parents. im gonna lay this out, the beta kids and trolls are all greek (EXCEPT sollux hes roman cause his parent has no greek equivalent), and all the alpha kids and trolls are those gods roman equivalents (,,EXCEPT dirk cause he kinda balances sollux being roman out). i havent figured out how thatd happen like 16+ times yet cause in the percy jackson books theres only ever been one instance of two siblings of the same godly descent being greek and roman respectively in HISTORY so like.. i guess th. i guess thats just not a problem in this au
anyway this gets really long so im gonna talk about the beta kids and trolls cause i havent elaborated on the alphas at all ((peep the tags if you wanna see their parents though))
johns the son of zeus, rose is the daughter of athena, dave is the son of apollo, and jade is the daughter of demeter. they were all raised in their respective states, all had to come to new york for various reasons. jades been there the longest, shes been there 9 years and shes been on a couple quests. her biggest accomplishment so far is how she protected the camp from this big vicious angry hellhound that got past the barrier. naturally the girls fluent in Dog Training, so she steps up and instead of trying to kill this thing, she reaches out and tames it as fast as she can. it ends up actually working, and ever since that day she, her cabin, and the camp have a whole bodyguard sleeping right outside the demeter cabin! hes her steed in battle and hes a Very Good Boy. and his name is becquerel
johns the newest kid at camp, he has no idea who he is or why the fuck his school got attacked or why in the hell those anemoi thuellai were so fixated on him or HOW in the hell he absorbed the lightning one threw at him and ended up fine,,, hes just a big mess right now. a big enough mess that when he got claimed by literally zeus, no one else was around, he shrugged it off as some basic magical happening, and he stayed in the hermes cabin far longer than he should have cause no one! fucking knew he got claimed! by zeus of all people! dumbass. he ends up figuring it out though. like an off-hand mention about how this “weird lightning thing appeared above my head a couple weeks ago, haha weird right?” once he figures it out he realizes “hey i might be able to fly” so he sneaks off into the woods to try it. he succeeds fairly quickly but god almighty everyones face the one day the dude just yote himself off a small cliff without warning,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
dave and rose are really tight, theyve been there roughly the same time length, and since their cabins are across from each other they just bother each other all the time. daves the resident Doctor even though he really doesnt look it cause hes got the apollo powers. apollo is the medicine god. so if you wound your stupid ass in battle daves in the ER room patching you up with his glowy hands. rose on the other hand is a very good strategist. shes one of the only athena kids ever recorded to actually have a power - telekinesis. she has no idea how she developed it, she thinks its from birth, but it freaks her out. shes training it though.
so the beta trolls, are also all human(ish). aradias hades kid. but i pulled a pjo trope on her based on one of my favorite characters (im not saying for spoilers, but if you recognize the situation, You Probably Know Who Its Based Off) and aradia died. her mom, the handmaid, had been pulling some Shady Ass Shit and ended up getting herself killed, but aradia tried saving her and ended up going down with her.
so handmaid gets sentenced to the fields of punishment in the underworld, and aradia gets sentenced to elysium, heroes paradise. shes like “no i want my mom to be okay” so they take that away from aradia and they put them both in the fields of asphodel, the neverending grey space for Not So Good But Not So Bad people. her mom becomes a shade (shadow spirit, no human resemblance), as all people do, but aradia. doesnt? and she gets dunked in the fucking river lethe and if you dont know what that does it erases your memory. so she just. comes out of the river like “hello? wgat tae fukc goin on??” but she still remembers one thing. there was an “a” in her name.
tavros is the son of hermes, hes just kinda taken on the role of backup counselor for when the actual cabin counselor is out. hes in a wheelchair, but he also has prosthetic legs for when he needs to actually stand up and fight. hes really good at it too. also catch him in winged converse cause he Owns Those and Uses Them To His Advantage. hes trying his best to keep focused on the camp, cause aradia was his childhood friend, he misses her a whole lot, she never got to camp in the first place. and to his knowledge, shes still dead.
sollux is a janus kid. thats a problem cause janus is roman, and this is a greek camp. he grew up with dave, he showed up with dave, hes been at camp as long as dave. but hes been unclaimed since he showed up so he thinks hes unwanted by whatever parent he has. he knows hes a demigod, he got through the camp barriers, so what the fuck is wrong with him? he also feels shitty cause hes shit at the greek lessons, he cant read a lick of it which literally every demigod without exception should be able to do, he cant name any gods- well, he can, but.. he gets their names mixed up. why does he keep calling poseidon “neptune”? and he has a much, much different way of natural fighting than other kids. they slice, he jabs. he wasnt taught to jab.
karkat is an aphrodite kid with vitiligo, and to make matters worse, hes ace and on the aro spectrum. to make matters WORSE, the aphrodite kids are kinda notorious for being really shallow, really materialistic, and really mean. karkats been dubbed the “runt” of the cabin, he gets made fun of for his spots to the point where he uses make up and magic to conceal them. worst of all? hes the kid of the goddess of love, for fucks sake. being reminded that “loveless people shouldnt be able to stay in this cabin, mom must have made a mistake claiming you” is kind of.. a blow to the self esteem. long story short he hates aphrodite for claiming him, and would have rather stayed in the hermes cabin. but he eventually goes on this big quest thats vague as fuck right now but Its The Main Plot, he ends up proving to himself that hes worth something and that his siblings are wrong, and my FAVORITE LINE IN THE WHOLE THING i came up with is HIS when he deals a final blow to some big monster: “REMEMBER MY FACE THE NEXT TIME YOU REINCARNATE. MY NAME IS KARKAT VANTAS, I’M THE SON OF APHRODITE, AND LOOKS CAN KILL.”
nepeta isnt anywhere near developed as others are unfortunately, shes a daughter of ares and shes really really good at hand to hand combat. shes small but she leads groups of people in things ranging from camp volleyball games to actual literal wars. shes a tough little shit
kanaya isnt really developed either, i have yet to figure out most of her powers too actually, shes a daughter of iris, the rainbow goddess though. (blatant reference to both kanayas vampirism and. h. her. sh. es ga. gay) ONE THING SHE CAN DO THOUGH is iris message at will without water or drachmas so really shes just everyones go to cell phone and its fucking hilarious cause people just come into the cabin like “KANAYA I NEED TO TALK TO [X]” and shes like “You Better Fucking Pay Me I Am Not Your Personal Cell Phone”
terezi is the daughter of nemesis and she has this really peculiar power she hasnt really gotten the hang of yet. she has synesthesia, so while she cant see she can smell and taste the colors of her surroundings and its really helpful. sometimes though she gets messages from her mom. they dont even come as dreams half the time, they come as almost a different plane altogether. tez has the power to literally tip the scales, pretty much. and when she gets like that, she can see. shes not on earth though, shit on earth stops when shes like that. shes just kinda In Her Own Head, i guess? and in her head she holds the two scales in her hands. she is the arms of the scale. and depending on which one she lifts up, she can literally alter the fate of the battle or happening thats going on By Herself. once she chooses she just whooshes back to real life though and nothing has changed. the only downside? it takes a LOT of energy and cant be exploited for little things. her one thing on her bucket list is to tap into said powers while getting something from a vending machine so like three things will fall out but it hasnt happened yet and shes upset
vriskas a daughter of tyche, the luck goddess, come the fuck on you knew i was gonna, i havent really elaborated on her either and im upset about that. but hey now you get a break from all those fucking paragraphs
equius is a hephaestus kid, and he kinda stays in the background. hes a range fighter, he spends a lot of time in the forge, and even though its been a project looooong since forgotten, hes been excavating the tunnels under cabin nine for years. by himself. he has no idea where they lead, but dammit hes gonna find out where. he has no idea about a certain bunker in the woods though...
gamzees just there for a fucking laugh tbh hes a son of dionysus and i love that cause hes the god of wine and parties and insanity. usually gamzees just zoning out somewhere hes Not supposed to be, and hes not affected by the maenads FUCKED UP BULLSHIT that goes down the forest sometimes. also hes so fucking scared of tavroses wing shoes he tried them on once while he was high and JESUS CHRIST
eridan is the son of kymopoleia, a SUPER obscure goddess. lets just say dont fuck with eridan cause his mom is the goddess of violent sea storms,
and naturally, feferi is the daughter of poseidon. cause who the FUCK else would she be the daughter of. WHO. NAME ONE GOD
OH AND JUST CAUSE I FORGOT CALLIE AND CALIBORN ARE SATYRS IN THIS AU. CALLIE HAS PAN PIPES. and caliborn still has a gun

CALM & Synesthesia — Introduction
A few years ago after Youngblood came out, I posted on here a question, and it was rather simple, and it was like “does anyone else see colour when they hear music?” And then I listed a few examples of songs and the colours I saw. Someone actually responded and said no, but that I should search up Synesthesia, because I probably had that.
I was first of all, extremely surprised that no one else saw colours when they heard music. When I reflect back on my relationship with music (music being my one true love), I realize that colours were always there, I just never recognized it until the 2018 release of Youngblood.
Second of all, I was shocked to hear that these colours and what was happening has a name. It’s a real thing. I have a super active imagination, which probably stimulated and woke this part of my brain up and caused me to become more aware of it, but to find out that I wasn’t crazy was a relief as it was shocking.
Synesthesia (which I can never say aloud with it sounding like a sneeze), in basic terms if you don’t know what it is, is sort of labeling things with a colour. A very common form of Synesthesia is words or numbers to colour. I must add here that forms of Synesthesia cross over, so if you have one type, you most likely also have forms of other types. My main form of this is called Chromesethia, which is sound to colour, but the number seven for me is a pale blue, as is the word February.
Synesthesia cannot be forced. It usually happens unwillingly. Personally with Chromesethia, if there’s a lot going on in my brain or in the world, the patterns still occur, however sort of broken up like a shattered piece of a mirror. It affects very little of the population and some people when in drug hallucinations, may also experience forms of Synesthesia.
I have thought for a while about sharing what I see for a while. I’ve tried to do it with words, but when I see patterns and colours, words don’t really do it justice. So with the recent release of the heartbreakingly beautiful, CALM, I figured this would be a great time to explain first how Synesthesia works for me personally, and take you on a hauntingly disturbing tour of the twelve songs, plus whatever deluxe songs arrive, from 5 Seconds of Summer’s CALM.
Before we get into the songs, though, this part, the introduction, is about how Chromesethia is broken down in my brain.
So this form of Synesthesia is sound to colour. We’re going to start with simple notes, as a song writer may, and build from there.
Each note for me, is assigned a colour. I played trumpet in my high school band, an instrument in C, so my B Flat concert scale starts and ends with C. C itself is a gold colour, G is magenta, A is red, B is Blue, F is green, E is brown, D is a dark grey.
Apparently I can’t put the scale in order today, oh my.
Moving on, those colours are pretty much the same colour wherever they are on the staff, although as the sound does get higher (high C for example) the colour quality diminishes slightly, and becomes more of a white space (Think of it like a light blub, where the centre is the brightest, but has the least colour, and as you zoom out, colour slowly occurs).
In regard to flats and sharps, they will be a paler form of the original colour. So for example, F is green. When you think of green, regular green, this green, that is the green of F. F# for example, is a slightly lighter green. I think this is because that it’s not exactly the full version of itself. Does that make sense? It’s not quite F, therefore F# is not quite that shade of green.
It works with flats too. If you told me to play a Gb, I would see a slightly lighter magenta colour. Not completely the brightness and stricking pink of magenta, but pink enough that it is still a G note.
Instruments also have an effect on my brain. If you were to pull out a flute and play a solid tone, and my brain were to focus on the sound of the flute and not the note the flute was playing, it was see pastel purple or pink. The flute is a rather light and airy instrument, and the colours would the reflect on that sound. However, if you were to pick up a tuba and play a note, I would probably see a darker colour, like navy blue.
Voices also have this effect. If I’m paying great attention to a voice, or I specifically like that voice, I will hear a colour (that sounds so weird. I’ll hear a colour). If there are many people in a room and there’s lots of chatter, then I probably won’t see anything because I can’t focus on one specific element. People singing also have an effect. Sometimes it is a shade or two off of their regular voice, it might be the same colour, or a completely different colour.
Since we’re talking CALM;
Ashton: Ashton has a red voice. When he speaks it’s red. Like just your regular crayon red. However when his voice gets soft like in videos where he’s updating us, thanking us, telling us he loves us, his voice goes to a paler red. I wouldn’t say his voice goes pink, which is a paler red, but the red definitely gets lighter and softer.
When Ash is excited or pumped up or performing, his voice goes to a dark red, like a cherry, and black sort of flicks in every once in a while.
His singing voice follows the same pattern as his speaking voice.
The drums, as that is his instrument, are two different colours. His snares, Toms, anything that gives a solid sound is usually shades of light grey. His bass drum gives dark grey vibes (the tuba/flute effect). And the cymbals are that light and airy sound so they’re gold, breaking that white high sound.
Luke: Luke’s voice is all over the place. He is blue when he talks in his normal voice, green when he sings. I should mention that Luke’s, as well as Ashton’s, falsettos are those white space colours as well. Anyways, the blue is sort of the same when ever he speaks, if you want to search up Prismacolour pencils crayons permanent blue, that’s the colour of his voice. Luke’s singing voice is that green and it shows change as movement through squiggles (aside from falsettos). I’ll explain movement in a bit.
Calum: it doesn’t matter what Calum’s doing whether talking or singing, he is either a chocolate brown colour or the colour of honey. I feel like that shows his range. Calum is very soft when he speaks or sings, and those colours to me are soft colours so they make sense as to why they’re Calum’s colours.
The bass is black and surprisingly gold. Deeper sounding instruments are very dark in relation to the colour. However, I think in the case of bass, specifically Cal’s bass, I find the instrument interesting, and I love playing it myself, so maybe that’s why the gold comes through. Sometimes the colour is just there, and I can’t explain it, just gotta accept it.
Michael: Michael is very interesting because his colours are never really the same. When he speaks, sometimes he’s turquoise, sometimes he’s black, sometimes it’s grey, and then the shades varying between those colours, which is super interesting. His singing voice is kind of scratchy looking. If you took a scratch board and a fork and scratched it up, so it was black with white or grey peaking through, that’s his singing voice. Michael’s voice whether singing or speaking is a mystery to me, but also makes complete sense at the same time.
His guitar, any guitar for that matter, has two different looks in my brain.
When its a single note, even if I can tell what that note is, it’s gold. It doesn’t matter. It’s a black space with gold dots that are the notes.
Okay, now the bass is making sense to me, lol.
When chords are playing, it’s more of a gold square with black lines in a grid pattern (like the neck of a guitar).
So guitars are black and gold, I guess.
Synesthesia is something I am still learning about, so here for example, I never made this connection before.
In terms of what songs look like, most times they reflect nothing of the voice or instruments used. With songs it’s more of an overall picture, colours and patterns taken perhaps from mood rather than notes. Sometimes songs have movement, which reflects the pace of the song, and sometimes there is none. In terms of voice, like mentioned with Luke, when I focus on his singing, it’s a green line moving up and down as he sings over top of the overall picture of the song. Sometimes songs have different images as it moves along, but it will usually look the same and the movement most likely changes instead of the picture. Regarding the colours I see, I usually see no more than 5-7 colours, on average, a song has at least 3. The amount of colours is usually an odd number, which I don’t quite understand, but it’s cool.
I think this is all I want to say about what it’s like for me with Chromesthesia. If I remember anything I will add it into other parts, and each part will have the previous parts tagged to it, so you can find the entire album.
If you have any questions, my inboxes are open!
Red Desert will come out once I finish the colouring. Red Desert’s colours are super bright so I need to colour hard and my pencils are dying. I was colouring it to Thin White Lies last night, which hurt when your eyes are looking at Red Desert but your mind is hearing and seeing Thin White Lies. Tell me why I did that.
OH! Speaking of that, actually, if I see artwork that doesn’t match what my head sees, it will either give me a panic attack or I can’t look at it, because my brain will hurt (a rude side effect that I cannot control). My brain is set in its way and I can’t really change it. This is out of my control. That’s what Synesthesia is.
Lastly, the boys of 5 Seconds of Summer are FANTASTIC at finding a similar, if not the same, colour pallet for their songs that I see. Whether or not any of them have it, I do not know, but I’m glad they’re at least on the same page so my head doesn’t explode when their art comes out.
Okay, NOW I think I’ve said everything. Red Desert will be out soon with a blurb. My inbox is always open for questions! I hope y’all enjoy this thread!
~ becca
P.S if you wanna be tagged in the next parts, I don’t know who’s interested, but let me know!!

50 Questions Tag
Hey there, so I thought I can’t ignore this forever, and so I’m going to do the rest of the things I was tagged for. First, the 50 questions tag, for which I was tagged by @thesimperiuscurse quite some time ago. I decided to do this for Shari since we haven’t seen her in a while, plus she’s rather... uh... complex, so it might be interesting.
Tumblr media
How old is your Sim? As of the latest, 19th, chapter, she is 34.
When is your Sim’s birthday? July 4th.
What is your Sim’s zodiac sign? Ironically, both she and Ron are cancers. *coughs suggestively*
What is your Sim’s ethnicity? American, though I do not talk much about it in the story.
Does your sim have any nicknames? Shari. Tiny Shari sometimes (I think @thesimperiuscurse once used it in reference to her, I liked it, and it kind of stuck).
Do they have a job? Technically, she’s a cartoonist, and has even released a couple books with her drawings. But no, she doesn’t have a “real” job, in terms of having set work hours, being forced to get up in the morning, etc.
Where does your Sim live? She currently lives in Appaloosa Plains.
Who does your Sim live with? She lives with her husband, John, and their three children, oldest James and twins – Jasmine and Justin.
What environment did your sims grow up in? She grew up in a loving environment. Although her mom, Candy, was technically a single mother, Shari was surrounded by many other adults she treated like family – “uncles” Reggie, Frank and Waylon, and “aunt” Hailey. And of course, she grew up with Ron and Becca (her peers), and two years older Clint. But throughout the years, she’d grown more and more jealous of the fact that everyone had a father except her. She deeply believed in importance of a traditional family dynamic, even to the point of feeling sorry for Clint for growing up without a mother.
What is your Sim’s favorite food? She loves sweets, and especially chocolate. She can eat a whole bar (or a couple of them) by herself when she’s stressed, which is often.
What is your Sim’s favorite drink? Shari loves tea. She often prepares herself the melissa one because she’s trying to convince herself it will calm her down during anxiety attacks (which it really doesn’t).
If they have one, what is your Sim’s favorite color? She doesn’t really have a favorite, though she started wearing a lot of red because of Ron (and the fact he connects red to her due to his synesthesia), and has gotten so used to it, she still unconsciously buys a lot of red clothes.
Does your Sim believe in any clichés (love at first sight)? She doesn’t necessarily believe in love at first sight, but she does believe in destiny, and that everyone’s fate is known before they are born.
What is your Sim’s sexuality? Straight.
What is your Sim’s gender identity? Female.
Is your Sim type A or type B? It’s hard to tell because she’s quantities connected with both – gets stressed easily, is impulsive, over-emotional, but definitely not a high-achiever.
Is your Sim introverted or extroverted? Introverted.
What is your Sim’s favourite woohoo position? In a way, she treats sex like a way to feel less alone, so she would pick anything that lets her feel it on a spiritual level. She particularly enjoys face to face positions with a lot of tight hugging, like the basket pose. But she doesn’t usually voice her preference and lets the partner decide because she’s desperate for just about any physical contact.
Is your Sim a pet person? She adores pets of all kinds, and can’t pick a favorite. She had always wanted a dog as a child, and was excited when her husband brought a rescued puppy home. Now, as she lives in the country, she feeds a lot of stray cats, dogs, and has also learned horse-riding.
Does your Sim have a best friend? She used to be very close to Becca when she was still alive. Now that she’s mostly distanced herself from all her past acquaintances, she doesn’t really have friends anymore.
What is/ was your Sim’s favorite school subject? Art.
Is/ was your sim a high, mid or low achiever in school? She was a low achiever because she was always too focused on her drawings to pay attention during classes.
Are they planning to go or have they already been to college? She studied fine arts for a short period of time, but then dropped out.
What are your Sim’s political beliefs (if they have them)? Shari is an ignorant when it comes to politics, and not once has she even considered voting, nor is she interested in what’s going on in the world.
What is one thing your Sim wants to do before they die? She wants to come clean to her husband, and admit she’s cheated on him multiple times with many other men.
Does your Sim have a favourite TV show (cable) and/ or movie? She doesn’t really watch TV.
Is your Sim a Netflix viewer? She doesn’t watch any series either. She once tried, but came to a conclusion that people there either seem too happy, or, in the dramatic ones, so sad she gets more depressed than she normally is.
Does your Sim like books? Not traditional books, but she loves comics, and likes to do fanart sometimes.
Does your Sim enjoy video games, if so, what is their favorite one, and do they play on PC or console? She used to play on console with Ron, Becca and Clint as a teenager, but she doesn’t do that anymore.
What is your Sim’s personal style? She wears girly clothes in bright colors. When she was younger, she sometimes liked experimenting with more risqué clothing and make up, but has grown out of it. She also loves flower themes, and midi skirts.
Does your Sim have a lucky charm? That would be the bracelet given to her by Ron on their anniversary. More about it in this post.
Is your Sim religious? Not really, but she believes that there exists something out there that’s going to eventually punish her for all the wrong she’s done, like cheating, which she feels extremely guilty about, but has no plans of stopping.
What kind of music does your Sim listen to and who is their favorite artist? She doesn’t listen to music with lyrics, only relaxation music to calm herself down during anxiety attacks. She loves when there are birds or sea sounds included.
Is your Sim a festive person? If so, what’s their favorite holiday? She doesn’t care much for holidays. Usually, her anxiety increases during Christmas when she has to leave the house and shop in a crowd.
What is your Sim’s favorite type of weather? She loves when the sun’s shining. It makes her a bit happier.
Does your Sim prefer to start fights or finish them? She avoids conflict at all cost. So, most likely, she will burst out crying and apologize even if she’s not actually guilty. Thankfully, she and John don’t argue often because he’s very peaceful by nature.
Does your Sim have a dream job? She doesn’t really know what she wants out of life. There was a time when she wanted to be a praised artist but now she feels nauseous at the prospect of being overwhelmingly famous.
Does your Sim have any siblings? She’s an only child, though she used to think of Becca as her sister.
Does your Sim get along with their family? She used to be very close to her mother, and all her extended family (not related to her by blood, but she thought of them as such), but now she’s distanced herself from them, so she isn’t anymore.
What is your Sim’s favourite hobby? Drawing.
What does your Sim look for in a romantic partner? She has never had a healthy relationship. Her marriage with John was a way of escaping from unfinished business with Ron, and she wanted someone who’d provide for her. All she’s done after that have been hook-ups with no emotional attachment.
What is a secret about your Sim? She has a calendar in which she notes down the dates and names of all the people she’s cheated on John with.
What is a wish your Sim has? She wants to die, but is too afraid to commit a suicide in fear she’ll get punished in the afterlife.
What is a flaw your Sim has? Her fear of rejection, which prevents her from building up a proper relationship with anyone.
How do others generally perceive your Sim? As shy, insecure, reserved and vulnerable.
Does your Sim have a greatest achievement? If so, what is it? She’s become quite well-known on the internet because of her comics. She was even invited to take part in a meet and greet to talk with her fans and sign her comics, but she didn’t go due to her anxiety.
If they have one, what is your Sim’s greatest regret? She deeply regrets breaking up with Ron, even though she continuously tries to convince herself it was a good decision.
Does your sim have a favorite emoji? ♥ – a heart, which she not only uses in her conversations with John and her children, but also the men she hooks up with. She often prefers it over actual words because she tends to overanalyzes her text to the point she doesn’t know what to say anymore, and then panics that the person on the other side will get mad for her at leaving them hanging.
Does your Sim use Simstagram? If so what’s their @? She shares her comics on @sharistinydoodles (it’s not an actual username, don’t check, lol).
What is the last text your Sim sent (and who did they text)? “♥” in response to John’s message that he’ll be home in half an hour.

15 Character Questions!
Thanks for the tag @westywrites! I adore your writing style <3
Last time I was tagged, I covered Miriam and Sebastian. This time, I’ll be doing my main boy, Alex!
Rules: pick a character from your WIP and have them answer these 15 questions, then tag people!
What is your full name?
Alexander Ludwig Freischmidt
What does your name mean?
My name is pretty unoriginal considering it’s my grandfather and dad’s names. Alexander means ‘defending men’, which fits in pretty well with my role as a Protectionary Guard. Ludwig means ‘famous warrior’- it suits my dad perfectly but me? Nope. Frei is German for free and Schmidt means blacksmith or metalworker.
Miriam told me all of that. I only tend to do research about appearances and body language rather than the theoretics. After all, my mother picked my names as homages, not because they’re self-fulfilling prophecies.
What are your nicknames / other names?
I almost always go by Alex- only Dimitri, my parents and their friends call me by my full name. Sometimes it’s also shortened to Al or Xander.
What’s your gender?
Male
What’s your sexuality?
I usually say I’m Bisexual, but I’m probably Pan. Then again, I’ve never been in a committed relationship to know what my romantic status is. They’ve all been exclusive flings, to be honest.
Where are you from?
I was born in my mother’s school, Schwillbrokt, Phinea. I grew up in a slum called Hanlet in Kalay before returning back to Phinea as a teen. After going to Schwillbrokt myself for a few years, I moved to the Phinean capital, Mindeya.
How old are you?
26
Any special talents?
Being the exact opposite of talented. At least, my dad says so. I can paint well but he doesn’t appreciate the arts despite being married to my mother.
Do you have kids?
My role of Protectionary Guard has literally made me Sebastian’s father figure whenever he’s not at home. I have to keep my eye on Miriam and Roman while I’m at it as they’re just as likely to break all the bones in their body. I didn’t plan on becoming a biological father before those lot, but they’ve definitely confirmed that decision.
What’s your aesthetic?
I have synesthesia so I’d say I have a few colours I’d associate myself to more than specific objects. They would be fudge brown and cream yellow. I have no real explanations as to why, but they’re the ones.
Who’s your best friend?
Sira Robertson was my childhood best friend, with Frances Liebstraum being my bestie through my teen years. Now I’m their 'highly honoured’ third wheel (according to Sira).
Would you ever get a piercing / tattoo?
I’ve never gone as far as to get a tattoo, but I’ve gotten some pretty regrettable piercings when drunk. I’ve just left them over time so the holes have shrunken. Now I don’t have any that I could put rings through without needing them re-pierced.
When are you happiest?
When I’m alone with my art or the rare occasion when I get to hang around with people my own age.
What’s your biggest secret?
Let’s avoid that question. My dad might read this.
What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Eyes. They’re my favourite thing to draw so I’ve always found myself looking at strangers to see if I find a new colour that I’d like to try and make. And I try to figure out people based on their eye colours. Their depth and warmth/coolness can tell you a lot.
Any last words?
I like sleep but never get to.

Okay! I’m going to tag @thel3tterm, @ahotpeaceofshit and @wrotethestars, although feel free to ignore this if you’re not into tag games! :)

The Watchmaker of Filigree Street by Natasha Pulley
Tumblr media
I’ve owned this book for years now, I’m sure, but I don’t remember buying it. It has a price tag from a local thrift store on it, pricing it at $0.99. I decided to read this book because the cover was interesting and the story, from what little I could read from the summary, seemed interesting, too.
The premise is that in London, in the 1880s, Nathaniel “Thaniel” Steepleton, a local clerk for the Head Office, is surprised one day to find an intricate silver pocket watch in his room upon waking. Later on, this same watch saves Thaniel’s life when it goes off moments before a bomb explodes. Following this, he goes to find the watchmaker, Keita Mori, a Baron from Japan who has taken up clockwork-making in London. As Thaniel becomes closer to Mori, both out of duty to his officer friend, and because he can’t help but be drawn to him, both he and his life slowly start to change for the better. At the same time, Grace Carrow, an aspiring scientist, is on a deadline to prove that the ether exists, before her parents force her to marry. When a roulette ball thrown by her best friend, Akira Matsumoto, improbably lands on zero, Grace meets Thaniel, and her life quickly gets entangled with Thaniel and Mori. Thaniel must work to save Mori from being falsely imprisoned for making bombs, while helping free Grace from the shackles of her family, all while trying to find out who really set the bomb and, worse, who is going to set the next, all before his world falls down in front of him.
Although I’m not sure what initially drew me to this book, I know that I stayed at it because the writing style reminded me of The Manual of Detection by Jedediah Berry, a book I read earlier this year and liked immensely. Initially, I was worried that this initial comparison would be to the detriment of The Watchmaker [etc.], however I was happily surprised at how much I enjoyed it once I got to reading it. It’s true, there are some comparisons to be had between both books, like the similar writing style, or how Thaniel and Unwin were both comfortable in their unchanging worlds until something violent happened to snap them out of them and into a brand new world that eventually changed who they were, but they are their own books and they stand apart from each other comfortably.
Speaking of the writing style of the book, the author does a lovely job giving her characters distinct traits; Thaniel has synesthesia (though it’s never named in the book), Mori can see probabilities from the near future into the far future, Grace’s scientific mind works both to her benefit and to her detriment, Six is whip-smart but also a thief, Dolly has a way of talking that translates even into his telegrams, and so on. The author is also good at writing out the character’s emotions and why they’re feeling the way they do. Her writing style does have some drawbacks unfortunately, at least to me, in how certain details are unclear. This can sometimes be unimportant, but sometimes it can be grating, like at the end of the book how it’s unclear whether Mori regains his ability to see more than five minutes into the future, or whether he’s forever stuck not knowing the far future, or how it was hard to tell what Thaniel’s motivations were for keeping the truth about Grace’s role in the making of the bomb, as well as his work with the police, quiet.
Before I talk about any characters, I need to talk about the part of the book that was most important to me, personally: Thaniel and Mori entering into a relationship. You have to understand, up until they kissed, I was firmly beating back my shipper mind; part of my reading journey has been focused on moving away from always wanting and expecting romance in books; this brainrot stems largely from reading mostly YA books, and also from partaking in fandom online. All of that to say, everything I saw in the book that might have pointed at Mori and Thaniel liking each other romantically was fiercely met by a “reality check” and my reminding myself that the probability of Thaniel and Mori, two MEN, being in a relationship in a book that I bought at the thrift store for a dollar, was just too unlikely. Even when Mori told Thaniel not to speak it out loud, only to think it so that he could change his mind and Mori would forget it, I was trying (and, to be honest, failing) to keep calm and not get my hopes up. When they finally kissed, I won’t lie, I kind of lost my mind a bit. It was like I hit the jackpot. I told everybody I could think of about it. I was rewarded, and I mean this quite genuinely, for fighting off my shipper mind with receiving my ship presented to me in a nice little giftwrapped box with a bow on top. This is very honestly the first time I have ever seen explicit LGBT representation in a book without expecting to see it, and I don’t mean “expecting” in the way a shipper with brainrot “expects” to see it, I mean expecting as in having picked up the book and read in the description or read online that said representation would quite literally happen, and I am so, so, happy about it. It took me forever to fall asleep the night I read that because I was so incredibly overjoyed. Nothing could ruin the mood that kiss put me in, and the next few days, seeing Thaniel and Mori reaffirm their relationship and then talk about adopting Six, well, you can imagine how much that meant to me. With all that said, let me move on to the characters themselves.
Grace was, I think, the character I was most conflicted on overall. I had to tell myself to stop disliking her because The Brainrot made me mad she was “getting in the middle of my ship”, but I was able to come around more to her... when I saw her in juxtaposition to Thaniel. See, unfortunately, I only really came to like her as a character when she was in a makeshift relationship with Thaniel. It wasn’t that I overtly disliked her before that, only that I never really had much reason to like her. She was a very singleminded person, often blind to the plights of others unless their plights worked to help her own. She couldn’t see that her dearest (and pretty much her only) friend, Akira Matsumoto, was not indelible and always capable of shrugging things off. No, that’s not true - it’s not that she couldn’t see that (because she proved the opposite quite a few times in her chapters of the book), but rather that it didn’t bother her nearly as much as it should have when the opposite happened. It was sad how rarely, it seemed, she took his feelings into account, but, overall, not a big surprise; like I said, she’s a very singleminded individual, especially when working on her ether project. Although I appreciated her drive and spirit, it did, of course, work to her detriment, like at the end of the book, when she refused to believe Thaniel and was so sure that he was being manipulated by Mori that she ended up trying to frame Mori, first by making it seem like he had kidnapped her, and then by making a bomb out of Katsu, just so that she could get him sent away and “save” Thaniel. In the end, even this situation worked out for her, because she got to keep her house in Kensington, as well as potentially start a romance with Matsumoto, but at the cost to her friendship and marriage with Thaniel, plus the child that they could’ve had together in the future.
Thaniel.... Thaniel, Thaniel, Thaniel... what can be said? I love his growth throughout the book. I love that he was toiling away in a job that he was good at, but which he had no love for, to support his widowed sister and her two sons, despite his heart truly being in the piano. I love that he got his nickname, Thaniel, because he was named after his father, and his father went by “Nat”, so he went by “Thaniel” so they wouldn’t get confused. I love that he couldn’t help but become friends with Mori, and I love that he ended up trusting Mori so deeply even in spite of the fact that he was supposed to be investigating him. I love that he got a new lease on his life in the end, and I love how desperately, deeply, he loves Mori. I really can’t think of anything that I dislike about him, in the end. I can’t blame him for anything Grace put him through, not really, because he only married her to help her out (and because she, in turn, would help him out monetarily), and because in the end they would have fallen in love if Grace had only trusted him.
If there’s anything I dislike about Mori, it’s the fact that we never got any chapters from his point of view. It sucks, but maybe it was for the better too - can you imagine how depressing they would be? Mori was always left behind, always abandoned, always doing the most for others just so they could eventually do the least for him. He loves with all of his heart, and he knew, perhaps more intimately than anybody else, that if you love somebody, you’ve got to let them go. He saved Ito’s life five times, and Ito was so spooked that he let Mori leave Japan. Mori was prepared to let Thaniel forget about him and move into a happy life with Grace, a life where he would think less and less about Mori each day. That’s the saddest part, right? That Mori doesn’t believe he can be happy for a long time or certainly not for the rest of his life. God, I wish I knew how his mind worked, and what it’s like for him to see the probabilities and so such, but man if I would be able to understand how he does it. Seriously, i cant imagine how upset Mori must feel, knowing Thaniel might betray him or distrust him or otherwise not be on his side at any moment, and just having to sit through the possibilities and hope for the best. I’m sensing a pattern with Mori giving up things for his friends and his friends, in turn, turning on him. Saving Ito’s life five different times versus saving Thaniel’s life and getting him entangled in the police investigation. He did it without ever wanting thanks, all because he knew they were his friends.
Mori’s love for Thaniel is so immense and breathtaking, it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s incredible to think about how much Mori has done for Thaniel, both big and small, even when he almost certainly never expected, hell, probably never even dared to hope, that his love would be reciprocated. Mori left Japan just to meet Thaniel, saved his life when Thaniel never even knew who he was, got Thaniel a promotion at the Head Office and also got him back into piano, too, and that’s not even mentioning how he tells Thaniel he’ll grow to love Grace and that they’ll have a child together. And that’s just the big things! What about the small things? What about making Thaniel tiny little cakes based on the colors Thaniel sees when he hears the song Greensleeves? What about that?
It’s scary, but fascinating, to think about how this book, up until the roulette ball landing on zero, was entirely in Mori's hands, and how, from that exact moment, everything went off the rails. It's also scary to think about how things almost went exactly how Mori imagined after the fact, how Thaniel would have forgotten about Mori and moved on from him and came to love Grace and have a child with her, if Grace would've just... done what she was told for ONCE and listened when Thaniel told her he would be back in the morning. It's... honestly incredible, on the author's part, and I can only imagine what it must have been like to actually write the book.
The author’s attention to detail and ability to recall previous detail was fantastic. Having established that Mori had a, I believe, Northern accent, only to then reveal that he lost said accent in favor of a more typical London accent, to then reveal that he regained his Northern accent, all because of the changing timelines and probabilities, because he got his accent from Thaniel and as he and Thaniel would, probably, start to talk less and less, he lost said accent, and then when the probability changes and he regains the accent because he and Thaniel would be talking often again, well, that was fantastic. Or, like when Grace cut down the pear trees at the Kensington house because she didn’t like the gold clockwork pears from Mori that Thaniel put on them, and I can reference this back to underneath the pear tree in Japan being where Mori and Ito had that fateful talk and Ito finally would let Mori go to London, was fantastic. Maybe that was purposeful, maybe it wasn’t, but I am fascinated by it. Maybe it’s how Ito vs. Grace felt about Mori, or maybe it was the strength of their relationships, or so on, but it was fascinating.
A specific detail I love is how the author wrote Thaniel and Mori falling in love, as well as how Thaniel, in particular, felt in the lead up to their expressing their love, mainly in small details, like Thaniel saying he never thought he would marry and how Annabel pointed out that Grace looked like a boy, which, yes, many characters had said that over time, but once you understand what happens, you wonder if that isn’t part of what drew Thaniel to her over time. Or, after Grace and Thaniel’s wedding, when he didn’t even think about sleeping in the same bed with his now-wife, and how he felt stiff and sick whenever Grace implied she wished he would, and how he then covers his mouth after she kissed him goodnight, all very visual cues that he does not like what is happening.
A line that stood out to me in the book was, “He had thought it all gone, but all he had done was lock himself up in a few little rooms and assume the rest of the house had fallen down. It hadn’t. There were doors and doors, and dust, but when the curtains opened and the drapes came off, it was all where he had left it and hardly faded.” The “all” in this case refers to Thaniel’s piano knowledge but I think, overall, it can be applied to anything in life, which is why this line gives me hope that I, too, might one day be able to say this about something, instead of living in a fog.
While I understand that Grace did her entire plan, not just to ensure what she believed was her own safety, but also to save Thaniel from what she believed were the evil machinations of Mori, I’m still upset. I want to agree that her dad and the officer were correct in calling her a stupid little girl, and yet I can’t help but feel bad for her all the same. Of course, understanding why she did what she did doesn’t mean I forgive her. Grace still distrusting Mori at the end of the book is tiresome, but I guess its to be expected. From her point of view, she did everything she possibly could to stop Mori from brainwashing Thaniel, so to speak, and it didn’t work, and now she’s getting a divorce when she’s only been married for a few days. At least she gets the Kensington house out of it. It’s funny, though, that  she could see that she shouldn’t frame Yuki because she could see herself in him and, therefore, understand his motivations, but she didn’t  realize that she shouldn’t fuck with Mori just because they both care for Thaniel.
As for the end of the book, while I did want Grace and Matsumoto to end up together, I had truly hoped for some big polycule arrangement, where it was Mori loving and being loved by Thaniel loving and being loved by Grace loving and being loved by Matsumoto, but I suppose one must take what one gets. After all, once Grace tried to frame Mori for the bombings, there really was nowhere more for her and Thaniel to go. I think she probably deserved a good old fashioned movie slap, but I think in the end its probably a good thing nobody, or at least not Mori or Thaniel or Matsumoto, gave it to her. Still, I have to wonder if it’s safe to send her to japan with Matsumoto; she seems to only view him in high regards after all, and every other Japanese person as lower than she is. I guess, of all places in Japan, the home of a noble is probably the best place for her; the money to back whatever experiments she wants to research, the space to research it, and the power to keep it quiet as necessary. Of course, I have to wonder what the point of her having the house in Kensington is if she goes to Japan, but I guess that’ll just remain one of those mysteries. Lastly, on one hand, though Ii wish we would’ve ended the novel on one of Thaniel (and Mori)’s chapters, ending on a Grace chapter does offer a finality and, also, a breath of fresh air, so i suppose I’m not too upset about it.
At the end of the book, I wonder what the point of Mori showing to Grace that he had the missing train part was. Was he doing it as a bitchy move, to show that he still was in control, that he won? Was he doing it as a peace offering? Or was it something else entirely? Personally, I was really hoping that we would see Katsu again before the end of the book. Truthfully, i was hoping that was what Mori had in his pocket, just a tiny baby Katsu cobbled together from all his leftover parts. It's hard to imagine he won't be there anymore. I think that's the saddest part of the entire book. Also, I'm on the fence about Thaniel withholding the truth from Mori, both about his working with the Yard, and also about Grace. I suppose he could be doing both these things for Mori; allowing him to have these two surprises when before nothing was a surprise, but of course, I'm also sure the yard part, at least, is done so that Thaniel won't ever have to fess up to the fact that he was spying on Mori... but still.
Overall, I thought this was a fantastic book. This will definitely be in my top two books for the year, unless I stumble upon something really knock-out. Truthfully, this might even be my number one book this year. I’ve bought the sequel and I hope it lives up to the precedent this book set. 5/5.
My bookmark for this book was a comic strip from Curtis by Ray Billingsley, in which Curtis and Barry are at the beach and Curtis finds a starfish. Although initially scared, Barry falls in love with the starfish and brings it home with them, wherein their father finds the starfish in the bathtub as he’s ready to bathe himself.

And We’ll Be Running by allyasavedtheday (M | 62,270 | 3/3)
It had been six months ago when Kevin called him, sounding drunk off his ass and on the verge of a breakdown, begging Neil for help. Andrew Minyard, guitarist for The Monsters, had been assaulted by his old foster brother and it finally convinced the courts to take him off the mood altering medication he’d been taking since almost two years prior after an incident where he’d defended his cousin from a bunch of homophobic assholes outside a club.
At the time, he’d had nothing else going for him so he said yes. It was just meant to be something to do for a few months. Now, well, he doesn’t really want to leave.

Neil Josten and Andrew Minyard met when their bands toured together. Now they’re touring separately, and Neil hates it.
Where Everything is Good by iaquilam (Not Rated | 10,804 | 1/1)
“Shut up,” Andrew says, and lets the door slam shut behind him. It’s satisfying in a petty sort of way, but he’s never claimed to take the higher road. “I do not care if you are recording.” “Your friend is charming,” a voice says drily from the corner, and Andrew pulls up short. Two things: he was not expecting Neil Josten to be here already. And he was not expecting Neil Josten to have a voice the color of the sky at noon.
Neil Josten is a singer with a dark past and smart mouth. Andrew Minyard is a music producer who has synesthesia and secrets of his own. Their paths cross the day Andrew realizes he has never seen a voice quite like Neil’s.

I’m a huge fan of the fantasy genre so it makes up most of my reading; The Night Circus, His Dark Materials trilogy, The Book Thief, Assassin’s Apprentice, The Name of the Wind, and The Hundred Foot Journey (which isn’t a fantasy but it’s great nonetheless) come to mind. But that’s just what I have on my Kindle right now, there’s way more.  EIGHT ( LAST SONG LISTENED TO ): Sairen - Reol NINE ( LAST FILM WATCHED ): Howl’s Moving Castle TEN ( INSPIRATION FOR MUSE ): Before I created Kourin, I thought up of his ability. I’ve always loved the aesthetic of paper manipulation, and I wanted a character that could utilise it. Eventually, an opportunity presented itself in a novel I was writing. The idea for his informational gathering came about that time as well- though it was unrefined. Though he was only a minor character who didn’t appear for long, I decided that I liked him a lot and wanted to write more about him- which is why I converted him and his sister into a JJBA OCs, and created this blog.
Mai was actually created before Kourin, as one of the main characters to the story they belong to. Her Stand, when I created her JJBA verse, is based off of a concept I really enjoyed- which is using our shared condition, synesthesia, in a power. It might be a little self-indulgent, but I just love the idea, hehe!
TWELVE ( MEANING BEHIND YOUR URL ): It’s based off of Kourin’s Stand’s name, Paperback Writer, which I chose for his Stand because its lyrics were pretty much his frame of mind while he was still a journalist. Coincidentally, I also chose his real name, Lear, because the man described in the song was also called Lear.
(I thought really long and hard about both of the siblings’ names, ahaha)

Scáthach - Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Well guys, I think this is probably my most personal work ever. I know it will sound quite outlandish (ha.) and even feel Claire and Jamie out of character. One thing I love about fanfic writing is that I feel so comfortable with these characters that I feel like I can bend them in ways I wouldn’t be able to do with others I created from scratch. So apologies if this is too far from what you like to see.
Watch out for language, triggers and all that stuff.
Prologue
I won’t go all David Copperfield on you. I consider you smart enough to recognize that if I’m here, talking to you, I might as well have been born in order to do so. What a presumptuous prick, that David. Anyway. Even though I’ve gone through basically the same stages of life as any other human being, I can’t say that I consider myself so. Not fully, at least. I’m what we call a Scáthach. Yeah, pretty much as the celtic deity, we’re that very original. Calling myself a warrior woman in the middle of the XXI century will sound… well, probably as presumptuous as our friend David. But it’s the truth. I am a warrior indeed, one that fights shit you wouldn’t even imagine before I told you so.
I won’t bother you with the same boring pest I had to deal with when they first approached me. You’ll thank me for that later. But the thing is, a Scáthach is pretty much what whoever that has ever played a video game, read a fantasy novel or watched a tv show would call a demon hunter. Well, demon falls actually a bit short. There are all kinds of disgusting beings, if you may call them so, in the Dubnos, but for anyone that’s not familiar with the hierarchies and classifications of the The Deep, we can stick with that. Demon.
I can hear you rolling your eyes so hard at me. I understand it. I used to think this was all bullshit. But well, I’ve had enough of my share of experiences  —and whisky— to quiet my skepticism. But I’ll help you swallow this rather thick pill. Have you ever realized your friend, your coworker, even your neighbor is suddenly behaving completely out of character? Have you heard of those people that change their lives in the blink of an eye, turning it upside down and destroying themselves in the process? Have you even felt it? That unforeseen sting of desperation in the bottom of your heart when everything seems to be going perfectly well. That fit of lust that drives you into the arms of another person while your partner is happily waiting for you at home. That outburst of anger that pushes your feet on the gas pedal, terrorizing every other driver in the highway.
I thought so.
Science tries to give it an explanation. A man suddenly murders his entire family while his friends can’t understand how the loveliest of fathers would stab the love of his life to death. Psychiatrists say he had an underlying disorder. One nobody ever noticed. Not a single action in his behavior ever betrayed it. And yet, we all swallow it down, nod and thank God and pray that science will save us all. Put a tag on our diseases and magically cure them.
If only it was possible. I wouldn’t be here.
That is the doing of a demon, clever enough to make us believe that our brains would do that to ourselves, defying millions of years of evolution and self-preserving instincts. They find a way to sneak up on us and infect us. Of course there are people depressed. Angry people. People obsessed with others. Demons are not the cause of every single evil in the world, illogical as it may sound. But those unexpected explosions that ultimately breaks the person that feels them, of those they are responsible. Don’t fool yourself.
So I take care of them. That’s what I do for a living. Well, not out in the open, that’s for sure. In “real life” I volunteer at The Royal London Hospital. It’s most convenient to have access to quick meds and professionals when you work in a field like mine. But not for me, I… well, my body behaves slightly differently. Which is an advantage, you’ll see. Whenever I’m free and I have the time, I drop by the hospital and take a quick look to see if they need a hand. They once tried to put me on a schedule. It took them a couple of days to realize it wasn’t going to work, so since I’m nice and useful, they usually let me do my thing without making much of a fuss.
So far, I’ve told you about (a bit of) my job, my other job and what I am. But I haven’t told you my name yet.
I’m Claire.
And I’m alone.
Not that I care. I mean, it would be nice to have someone to have a Sunday lunch with, but it won’t keep me awake at night. Not most of the nights, at least. I’ve never been one to have many friends. Mainly because my line of work is an unpredictable one. People use to get tired of you when you cancel dates and plans more often than you make it.
Ok, now wait a second… I’m painting a fairly sociopathic image of myself. I may not win Miss Congeniality this year, but I’m not a bad person. Well, I wouldn’t say that I qualify as a person either, but you get what I mean. I do this to help others that can’t help themselves. So I think that should give me a few points.
Are we clear then? I slay demons, people live to see another day and I go home all by myself. Again, most of the nights.
The day it all changed I was about to leave the hospital after a short shift helping around, wheeling some elderly patients around and trying to crack them up with my stupid jokes. I loved to hear them laugh with their shot voices, always reprimanding me for being too crude. I know it’s a weird hobby, getting a chuckle out of those old crocks, but I guess it’s one of the quirks of being an orphan, unable to joke around with your own folks. Yay me. When my cellphone beeped, I snuck it out of my black jeans and checked it.
Frank. Shit.
“Tell me.”
“Hi Claire, how’s your—”
“Cut the crap. What is it?“ I demanded as I walked into a nearby alley. The sun was already setting and I knew I’d be in need of a dark, secluded place to open the Membrane sooner rather than later. Oh, wait. The Membrane, haven’t told you about that yet, have I? Well, just let me get through with this asshole.
“Ok,” the voice came through the speaker colder and snarky. “There’s a situation. You need to cross and take care of a deamhan that has found an weak spot in the Membrane. There’s a human involve, but don’t care about it. We’re already counting him as a hero.”
A hero. Yeah, they were hypocritical enough to give that name to the humans that died as a result of an unexpected encounter with a deamhan. Sometimes we were late and there was nothing we could do. Other times, fewer, I got orders to leave them be. Very ethical.
“Ok, show me.”
I hung up and closed my eyes. The image began to solidify in the back of my mind, slowly adding detail, color, texture, even smell. Well, stink. Even a foul taste flooded my mouth. I got it. Let me tell you about the Membrane, quick and dirty. In order to cross to the Dubnos, The Deep, if you prefer, you don’t have to pay the boatman to sail through the Styx lagoon. Though it would be pretty cool. No, between our two worlds there is a separation, a physical barrier that only a few of us can cross. The Membrane, that’s it. It works like an osmosis process. There’s part of you that stays back in the world of the living, and another that’s able to pass through. The Dubnos is restricted to the demons. So… yeah, you guessed right. I’m part demon myself. That’s why I can cross the Membrane back and forth, and live in both sides of it. Hope I didn’t freak you out. I don’t have scales or a pointy tale or bug eyes. Well, those I only have them in the Dubnos. Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to see shit there. But they usually fade after a while once I’ve come back. Don’t look at me that way, I’m sure you’ve ended a few nights out looking far worse.
With the deamhan crystal clear in my mind, I opened the Membrane. I usually can open it anywhere. I just need it to be a dark place, without sunlight directly on it, and without prying eyes around, if only not to scare them to death. So I did it once again. I extended my hand with my fingers firmly aligned, acting like a blade able to cut the viscid film. It slowly pried open, parting like a primeval womb not giving pass to life, but rather absorbing it into its depths. I was already accustomed to the transition, but it always felt like losing a part of you that you were never positive you’d be able to gain back.
The first thing that hits you when you enter the Dubnos is the smell. There’s nothing that can compare to it. Like a mixture of ammonia and really, really rotten eggs. Only stinkier. I could only perceive it in the back of my nose. Once I cross the Membrane, most of my human senses are left behind and… well, demons aren’t particularly squeamish about stenches. Their sense of smell works differently, like a hound’s, but only sensitive to selective traces. I had the odor of that deamhan Frank had sent me still vivid in my nostrils. I sniffed around, trying to pick a scent. The path became distinct in a few seconds, my eyes able to discern it as if it was marked with bread crumbs. An eerie synesthesia, but definitely a useful one.
Even though it works as some sort of shadow of the reality, a muffled copy of the real world,  time and space work a little differently in The Deep. Demons don’t have a natural sense of any of them, since they’re maleable, bendable. The same rules we have don’t apply there. So reaching the coast took me less than getting to the tube from the hospital. I’m a bit faster here as well, so by the time I could feel the power of the waves crashing against the jagged cliffs, I slowed down and crouched. There it was.
A thread, thinner than the thousandth part of a hair, came out of an amorphous blob of flesh, almost transparent, like muddy water. I frowned. If I recalled correctly, the human was already far gone. But the the opposite end of that thread was attached to a man. I could distinguish his form, a nebulous, barely distinctive shape on top of precipice. The deamhan was having a rough time pulling form its end. Usually once they were able to tie it to a person, the effect was instant. Most of the times there wasn’t even a struggle. But this wasn’t one of those. He was fighting. Even with his bare foot sticking out of the rock into the void of an indomitable sea, he was still holding on for dear life.
I could wait. You see, I could let the deamhan do its thing and let that poor bastard fall to his death. But remember when I told you that sometimes I get orders to leave them to their own devices? Well. I’m a shitty minion.
The fight was over before it began. By the time the demon became aware of my presence, I had already inserted my left arm all the way into its body, while I was tangling the thread around my right in order to withdraw it. The beast started to convulse, I clenched my teeth and looked away. It was stronger than I had foreseen. Painfully slowly, it initiated the process of swallowing my arm. I could feel its juices pouring on my skin, burning it. I pulled back but it was too far stuck. The thread broke. It was a shit show. I was there, a human about to kill himself and I, to be eaten and digested.
I closed my eyes. If I wanted it to work, I had to work quickly. With my right arm free, at least I was able to use it. The thread was surrounding it, hurting like acid on an open wound. I placed my palm against the slimy surface of the deamhan while I grabbed its insides with my other hand, and pulled. I pulled so hard I felt the muscles of my back strain and break. The energy started to condensate on the tips of my fingers. I hadn’t had to use it in quite sometime, so it took me longer than I expected. But by the time the bastard realized what was happening, it was a smoking spot on the floor.
I fell backwards, out of breath. Or I’d be if only I breathed there. Took me a second to remember the human. I looked at where he had been a second before, but he wasn’t there. He was already falling.
Fuck.
There was no time to think. I could see his shape plunging through the air, near the hair-raisingly sharp rocks of the cliff. Time slowed down to a tortuously lethargic cadence, enough for me to leap forward as fast as I could —which is, to be honest, faster than your eye could see—, as I opened the Membrane and pushed myself through. It slowed me down, but I had got enough momentum, more than enough to counter gravity. With the agonic rush I completely miscalculated the strength I was going to impact on his body with. I felt his shoulder pop out of the socket and his mouth crash against my (rather thick) head as I catapulted us over the cliff. I managed to protect him from further damage as we landed by, well, basically using my own body as an airbed. Not the best sensation, it crossed my mind, as I became aware of the size of the man. He lay on top of me, a dead weight that almost kept me from breathing properly, a few seconds before I crawled from underneath and turned him over on his back. My arms were still burned. In the Dubnos I was able to heal rather quickly, but once I crossed the Membrane back, my human body would became a burden. I still healed at an abnormal pace, but it was much more painful.
I could feel the ligaments of my jaw tightening with the pain, but I had no more time to waste. I straddled his waist, tore his shirt open and he, opportunistic as hell, decided it was the best time to come back from the dead. Or the unconscious. Whatever. So picture this: luckily, last thing he’ll probably remember is jumping off a cliff. Now he regains consciousness and a woman with black scleras and burnt arms is ripping his clothes off. If I’m the slightest bit less lucky, he’ll remember me, emerging from thin air, looking like I’m flying —and damn, I wish I could but that’s actually something I’m completely unable to do— and tackling him into safety. And ripping his clothes off, no, there’s no way to elude that.
“A Dhia…”
He tried to squirm out of my grasp with the arm he was still able to move, but I pushed him hard against the soft grass.
“Quiet,” I hissed while I gave him my most terrifying look. Which then was, well, actually the only look I had. He froze, trying to puzzle his memories, to instill some kind of reasoning into them, fighting the unlikeliness of it all. I arched an eyebrow, staring at him, waiting till he finally made up his mind provisionally. He had felt my strength. He knew, somewhere deep inside, he was at my mercy. Then, his eyes left mine for a second only to discover the wounded skin of my arms.
“Mary, Michael and Bride, your arms are burnt!”
“I. Said. Quiet.”
The fight behind his eyes began again for a few seconds, but he finally stopped wriggling and I was able to inspect his chest. Remember what I told you about the demons? About how they corrupt human beings? Well. that was precisely what that this human had been subjected to. Good thing I still had my bug eyes. I wouldn’t win a beauty contest, but it made it easier for me to find the corruption inside a body. I already suspected where it was. Despair was usually inserted near the heart. I placed my hand on his left pectoral and focused. This one was deep. I began pulling and his face became shadowed by the pain. It’s not the most pleasant process, but I’ve always found humans to be quite receptive to it. As if they knew, somehow, that the pain they feeling is a curative one. Gradually, a conical shape, with a dirty forest green shade, emerged from the flesh.
I let myself sat on the soft grass and sighed, looking at it. My human side felt the call of it, the words in the back of my mind, the pain that would conquer me if I let it. The waving surface was almost mesmerizing. I fell on my back and indulged in the cool feeling of the pasture and the first drops of rain. I heard him move, sitting up and closing his shirt. I could smell the blood from his broken lip. That could be a problem and staying there would only make it worse.
“Who are you?” He whispered, probably not sure if he had dreamt the whole thing, lost his mind or was having the worst trip in history.
I stood up as the rain began to pour down, appreciative of the coolness it impressed on my burns.
“You’ll be just fine. Don’t ever come back here. If you go south you’ll find a small train station if you want to go to the City. There won’t be enough light to go anywhere else.”
I rubbed my hands against my jeans and shrugged, not knowing what else to say. He wasn’t moving and kept staring at me like he was seeing a ghost. Which wasn’t too far from the truth, so who could blame him.
“Well, I—”
“Wait.” He grabbed my wrist and raised my arm, inspecting my clearly healing wounds.
“Do you really want to freak yourself out any more?”
He looked me with those slanted, incredibly blue eyes, as I realized for the first time, and let go of my wrist.
“What’s that… thing you pulled from my body?”
It was my time to freak out.
“You can see this?” I showed him the green cone and raised my eyebrows in absolute astonishment. He nodded, frowning.
“Why?”
“You aren’t supposed to be able to see a Fang. Nobody can.”
“Well, not nobody,” he pointed with indisputable common sense.
I was gaping like a fish out of water. I’ve seen plenty of terrifying, upsetting, disgusting, crippling stuff. Enough to make me almost immune to surprise. But this caught me perfectly out of balance. My eyes travelled from the Fang to his eyes, and I could tell he was waiting for an explanation. Probably more than one. Then, my gaze felt unavoidably attracted to the cut on his lip. My heart was already racing, and I didn’t know how much I could restrain myself.
“This— Remember what you felt when you jumped off?” A semblance of shame covered his features and nodded. “This is it. It wasn’t you. This made you jump.“
“But…”
“I have to go.“
“Wait!” He grabbed my wrist again but I pulled violently as soon as our skins made contact.
“Just wipe that fucking blood of your face!” I snapped, and it was his time to be caught off guard. I started pacing around, nervously. “I can’t stay. I can’t help you anymore. Go on, live your life and all that shit.“
And I vanished.
