CONFESSION:

I have a long morning commute with a lots of traffic. Plenty of time to listen and sing to tunes. I was listening to ‘All as One’ by Miracle of Sound. For those who don’t know, it’s a song about DA Inquisition. So I had Dragon Age on the brain. The next song comes on, ‘Tell Her About It’ by Billy Joel. Suddenly my brain creates a musical in which Varric is singing and dancing around telling all the Love Interests in Inquisition to ‘tell her about it’. I imagined him singing the advice to my favorite LI lol

It was a fun entertaining daydream in an otherwise boring drive

Trying to figure out the time signature in "Wake the White Wolf" from Miracle of Sound

Part is definitely in 3/4 but I think the time signature changes to 8/8 at one point? And another sounded maybe 5/8? Help

I know there's at least one time signature change but Google is only giving me tempo and duration

Beyond theses walls

A friend afar, a shared and fleeting moment, calling out  in vain. I see no stars. Aligned they keep us frozen, fated to remain.

I can here the distant calls. There is no easy way out of here. There is no easy way, persevere. There is so much more beyond these walls.

“Beyond These Walls (Hades)“ - Miracle of Sounds [link]  

Miracle of Sound’s works and covers are for me a great source of inspiration. These songs are not just about a specific character or game but can evoke an other fictional character or OC (ex: “Wake the White Wolf“ [The Wither 3]) or/and evoking feelings and deep emotions… images.  

When I listen “Beyond These Walls“, I found in it a kinda of echo to Ignihyde Arc when the (vise-) Dorms Leaders, Epel, Rook and Yuu/Morgana (my OC) going down into to the deepest part of Underworld while overbolted Idia, Ortho and the Phantoms rise form it… all of them breaking the doors apart. And specially the lines that I quoted, evoke three story line of the Arc :

-> Idia /Ortho/O.R.T.H.O : As childs, Idia and Ortho wanted to discover the outside world, before to embrace the inheritage of the Keeper of the Underworld. To have a chance of freedom. But came a horrible and tragic accident. Ortho’s memory became a pale and artificial version of what he was as a living and Idia… He doesn’t  just fear the Out-Side because that him and his brother wanted to go there and Ortho died in the process, but he reject it. Hating it. Hating the World and the people who live there and said that no one can understand his pain, his lost, luring himself with technology. But when the echoes of his past return, he decide (him and O.R.T.H.O.), yes like Zagreus to go finaly out-side. But not as just discovred as they wanted to do as kids, but engluf the world of what they must look on, even if his caused, like this everyone will be same that them and it’s will be no more suffering... For them. (I don’t know but Idia look like a bit to Joseph/Cartaphillus in Ancient’s Magus Bride)

-> Morgana : At that point of the main story, her curse is too much stronger to be reversed. That curse take the form of a fading rose on her right arm and while it eat her magic and life-force, at each petal dispear, the moment where she will fall into a eternal sleep tormented by the cries and the hate of the Shadow is closing. At the moment that S.T.Y.X’s attack NRC, there is only there left. But de s’appitoyer on her fate, Morgana decide to live, fully. So when her friends (and people she saved form Drakness) had being injured or inducted, she doesn’t hesitade. With the same determination than Zagreus, she will goes throug all trials to save and help the one who are lost before to return on the Surface, under sun where peoples waiting for her... like a certain dragon that she is carring in her heart.  

-> Malleus : As in the ruins of of Ramshackle Droms, previous event, those lines of Beyond These Walls, echo to the forshadowing of Malleus unseen but deep loneliness (and “possible“Overbolt’s origin). Even being a Fea, and potential lived at least more than hundred years, he never trully understand the burden of his immortalty. Because of Morgana his Child of Men, Malleus found a chance to live as anyone else. Not just a Crown-Prince restricted in his castle since birth, knowing the world only by books and stories. Now Malleus realize with bitterness that these moments with the persons he meet and care will not last. They will gone while he will stay forever. Even if his beloved Morgana return form the Isle od Lamentationa as she promise, she will gone too... and not because of natural death... Her life is become  fragile and ephemer as rose petal or a butterfly...

Even if I cast Twst character into Hades characters, because of similarities in their roles, desgin or as character in the story/mythology/game, Malleus and Morgana (even if there some Zagreus’s lietmotif on her desgin), are more close to two character form Greek Mythology, which doesn’t appear in Hades but are linked to the Underworld at some point of the tale, Eros (Cupid) and Psyché. Basicly, Cupid and Psyché is the origin of all the stories about Beauty and the Beast. A main theme that is a big inspiration for the romance of Malleus and Morgana.

Witcher, Metal Version

Ever since I stumbled across Orion's Reign I was wondering which metal bands or artists have made songs about The Witcher. By which I mean game and books, so you will not find Dan Vasc's (really good!) version of "Toss a coin" on this list. There are, however, some bands or artists that made metal versions of soundtrack pieces, and some of those are listed here, too. A good source to bands with Witcher themes is this reddit post, btw! Without further ado, here it goes: Metal Witcher songs! (And if you have additions, reblog this post with them, please!)

BG's "Blood of the Elves" is the latest I know of dealing with Witcher themes. It is, of course, about Ciri. Also Blind Guardian are - I'm sorry I'm saying this so often - one of my top fav bands, so they are the first on this list :)

Yes, "Elder Blood" by Orion's Reign is dealing with the same topic. Dan Vasc is the singer here ;) I simply love his voice, and the song is epic!

Vader must have been one of the first, if not THE first, metal bands to cover a Witcher theme. Rightfully so, they are polish... "Sword of the Witcher" is about the first game.

What else can you expect from a band named "Kaer Morhen" than epic songs? This is, according to the "Encyclopedia Metallum", an instrumental duo, so this is basically symphonic metal (or, as they call the genre, "Epic Symphonic Metal", ok). This song covers the game theme for Kaer Morhen and enhances it in an awesome way!

Skar has a couple of Witcher metal covers. This is "The Wolven Storm". Check out this guy, he has awesome songs!

Miracle of Sound is another really, really cool project with many songs inspired by video games. There are a couple of Witcher songs, this one's the "Wake The White Wolf - Metal Version" (it takes a bit to get "metal" but it's really neat!).

"Wild Hunt" by German band Oversense is a sadly widely unknown song with a very nice melody and lyrics about Geralt. Their song "White Wolf" is also really nice!

Can you imagine me finding out there's this band "Hekseblad" with a couple of Witcher songs, including "The White Flame?" Yeah, sadly it's Trash metal, which I don't really like... but thanks folks, now I know there is an Emhyr song. Wow.

We can NOT, of course, miss out Percival Schuttenbach, which is also known as just Percival, but does a bit of different music with both projects. Percival Schuttenbach, however, is considered "Folk Metal".

Midgard is a Ukrainian metal band, this is "The Witcher". Whenever you hear them sing two similar words in a row, it's "Белый волк", meaning "White Wolf".

I really like Elvenking (check out "Black Roses For The Wicked One!") and I was thrilled to find they have a song about the Wild Hunt!

If you're hooked now, but not that much into metal - no prob, there's a lot of witcher inspired folk music out there. Check your favorite streaming service for Myrkur's cover of "Lullaby of Woe", and definitely look for Gingertail's epic covers, especially "The Wolven Storm". There are also a LOT of "Toss a Coin" covers, if that is your thing, I'd suggest to start with Dan Vasc but also look into the really good guitar version by  Luca Stricagnoli.
