Touches him a lot less if he can snap back #a one liner about it. like casino royale got a little itch down there etc. very fun to me to make him still equally CAPABLE of doing that #but in a situation where he's pretending he isn't. the cutting remark lined up behind his tongue and a gun close enough to touch and #he won't use either of them. smth about barriers built up purely not by what he CAN do but what he'll LET himself do is v cool and fun 2 me (@weidli)
yea exactly!!! I think abt this a lot too lol, like. trying to whump Bond by physically injuring him is like. almost kind of passe and like trying to recapture your first heroin high or sth. it just feels like you get such diminishing returns from it and you kind of have to keep ridiculously upping the stakes. And getting at him emotionally, like, directly, risks total system failure too much. he's one of those gemstones that are very hard but also brittle or like maybe not brittle but have marked cleavage points - it's too easy to either hit nothing or hit one of those and shatter him.
But. coming at it slant? forcing him into a position where he has to, ostensibly, open himself for attack while also keeping himself safe? now THAT'S got bite to it. Cuz I like the idea of Bond being good at undercover, however I also think/I think the way to reconcile him going undercover as himself is that he's like, a great actor, but a great METHOD actor. Like he HIMSELF has to believe it. There's a fic that has a thing where Bond is talking abt this with Q and is like, I'm James Bond every time bc I have to be / best lies are based in truth (i get down (when she gets you high))
And also Game Theory (series) and Reality both feature this thing Bond does where he, like. reshapes his own subjective reality, if that makes sense? And I absolutely fuck with that, I'm like. hell yeah!!! Where was I going with this. Oh yeah, him doing this, for an undercover role that requires him to be like vulnerable. Even if it's a role that has like, a supposed wall/armor, but is at his core vulnerable. Following this concept/headcanon, he'd have to, in a way, remake himself to into a guy who is that! And it's not him, per se, but also it is him, cuz that's how he operates, and it's like. putting on a skin that can take scars. And after he's done with the role he can shed it like a lobster shell. But maybe also like a lobster shell. If the wound hits deep enough - past the armor put in place to the supposed inner meat that is actually part of the skin he put up to take hits, and through to his actual skin. Then maybe it'd take time and a couple sheds to heal. Or maybe it won't! maybe it hits deeply enough that it becomes permanent!
but yeah. yeah yeah yeah. but also I think what ur getting at with ur last bit is how like, as part of his defense mechanism, he does quips to help externalize some of the damage he takes, It's like. releasing some of the pressure. (me with driving!! I externalize my irritation so I don't internalize it! this can be very alarming for anyone in the car with me tho lol, but I prommmyy I am not road raging I am only verbally sayin shit!!) But what happens!! if he can't do that!!! the role doesn't call for it!!!! and he has to suppress the beast inside that (a) wants to do it (b) rails against the fact it can't and it's creating more pressure Inside the shell of the Role!!! etc etc
entirely for my own haha sickos personal enjoyment., i want more fics/scenarios where Bond has to go undercover as the, like, more shy, boyish, dare I say... innocent? kind of guy. the kind of guy the maneaters that James Bond TM usually seems to interact with would eat right up. I feel like it's so rare to see... maybe like ever. weidli's fic has a bit of that. and im hungry for more.

You pay the toll in flesh, but not as first intended. Let him paw at you, lave his tongue along your spit-slick flesh until you're raw and aching.
It's mercy and it's punishment. He makes you thank him for his kindness; give offering to this benevolent creature of chaos and hunger. You spell out your gratitude (bitter, sour, desperate) letter by letter on your knees before him, claws nails and too-strong fingers keeping you in place (strong enough to dig in and rend you to pulp).
He coos at you as he wipes your tears, nails catching and drawing crimson as they follow the lacrimal tributaries cooling on your cheeks. Salt and iron dripping down, heady and fuck-
He's trembling more than you. Coiled tight from the strain of stifling his strength. It itches at his gums, his fingertips. Bite, rend, lacerate.
But that would be an ephemeral pleasure; a transient taste, all hot spray and cooling chunks. The thought is anathema. A malediction (isn't that funny, face stretching into a trenchant grin).

Writing Notes: Mixed Metaphors

A metaphor (from the Greek “metaphorá”) is a figure of speech that directly compares one thing to another for rhetorical effect.
While the most common metaphors use the structure “X is Y,” the term “metaphor” itself is broad and can sometimes be used to include other literary terms, like similes.
Metaphors provide literary descriptions, can serve as figures of speech, and sometimes end up as tropes, idioms, and cliches.
A well-crafted metaphor uses consistent imagery ("hitting the nail on the head”); when you start mixing imagery ("hitting the nail on the nose"), you can create a type of malapropism known as a mixed metaphor.
Some examples of common metaphors used in a sentence:
“Time flies when we’re having fun.”
“He was always the black sheep of the family.”
“If last week's crisis was a rainstorm, this one is a hurricane.”
A mixed metaphor is a figure of speech in which the speaker or writer combines two different metaphors that are incompatible.
All metaphors should be accepted for their figurative meaning rather than their literal meaning, but mixed metaphors make this difficult by offering inconsistent imagery and ludicrous comparisons that strain the boundaries of linguistics.
The use of mixed metaphors can derail a piece of otherwise strong writing.
But it can also be used effectively in creative writing.
To create an example of a mixed metaphor, simply cut and paste sections of two incompatible metaphors. Consider some ways mixed metaphors can pop up to ridiculous effect.
We were flying through a sea of success.

Thankyou for answering my question about mindscapes and mental spaces. A follow up question:
How would one go about creating a portal from your mindscape to the astral then? You mention ‘birthing’ it of sorts, would that be a lengthy process? If I don’t set up a portal, can I still make like a temporary one?
The last question is, people mention having homes and pocket spaces in the astral, is this the same as mental space but in the astral, how does one go about obtaining an owned space in the astral that they can alter and change like a mindscape.

No problem at all! Hope it helps, and I'll try to answer this best I can.
I think... it's important first and foremost to solidly understand the difference between the two, and what both feel like.
The issue with answering questions like these is that... well. Look at magic on this plane: One person's answer to "how do you curse" would be rotting froth sea water and whispered sea goddess curses, and another's would be to write their name on fire and burn it. One, both, or neither - more likely neither - is going to suit the person asking especially if say the person asking is a nature witch. Well, they could make it work, both saltwater and fire strangle nature, but... The ways to get things done naturally involve pushing your own self and elements to the cliff between you and the world at large, and another persons way of pushing themselves is probably not going to be yours - especially because elementally, energetically, we all have very different selves
That... Is amplified in the Astral. This is why I sort of... have a "dont teach people unless its in person and in a way I can possess and give visions to directly show" - part of why I made my realm lmfao. I can give you a basics rundown answer to your questions, but its not really... its not like giving baking steps where we both have flour and both have cups and both have ovens
the Basic answers are: yeah. First and foremost practice getting a solid grip on what is astral and what is mental. both exist in the same ALL/universe, like fire and oil, disparate but transmutable into one another if you know how to rearrange atomic structures and... many other things. or you could just set fire to the oil lmfao. Anyway.
Birthing the portal: When you grasp both astral and mental, it's important to understand the link. This can be done through existing in the astral and trying to manifest things, taking thought and idea and weaving it into reality. In the astral, you believing you can fly wont make you be able to like what happens in the mental, to birth wings out of yourself you need to stitch thought with substance. You need to give reality programming - which means you need to be able to grasp reality and walk the path between mental and real.
It's... yeah. hard to explain to someone if theyre not already used to portal work (maybe you are! Im just presuming a baseline level of understanding because i dont want to miss any important details). But the idea is... there is a point where the mental and astral touch. There is mental in the astral. The mental - referencing for a second how i talked about reality shifting and mindspaces and such - is very... accepting of programming. The key issue though is that if you programme "a door to the astral" in the mental without actually literally linking it to the astral, you'll end up with "a door to the astral" that takes you to a simulated astral reality. Thats why i say understanding what the astral feels like and the differences is key
The idea is... to birth a nothing. The astral compared to the mental is a lack of mental. Theres a phrase that Hermes impressed on me with great importance lmfao regarding the mental: "Do not assign features to it." This is essentially saying... just that, if you assign it personhood it will become a person. If you assign it reality it will become real. If you assign it a doorway itll become a door - and you will still be interacting with unreality, just now with a mask. But if you grasp both mental AND astral, and use their shared elements, you can birth a point in reality rather than the mind where... the mental gives way into externality
its. yeah. Its rough to explain. You basically want to create a place where the mental stops having a say in things, and you want to create that in the mental, which means you dont want to Create anything you want to more so make your mindspace a sighing body with you as the breath.
Is it a lengthy process? No, it can take place in an instant if you know what youre doing - Ill say when you know what youre doing because it genuinely is just a matter of practice and getting familiar with the two things. It can happen in an instant because mindspace is... extremely reactive, and mental creation can happen even backwards in time - you could have a portal to the outside thats built by your future self lmfao
I just. would recommend really to leave this kind of thing and just try more so to project or bilocate. The reason I have a portal in my mindspace is uh. it actually goes to the sky in mongolia, which it to say the gelatinous-crystalline window in between God and Creation, which is why the portal exists in the first place. Its way easier - and better for the brain to avoid becoming confused - if one just projects from real to real aka physical to astral - the portal is specifically uh. theres a psychological benefit to going from unreal to real wrt this portal specifically
Yes, you absolutely can make a temporary one! To be honest as much as this might sound counterintuitive, i think its actually both easier (that parts not counterintuitive) and more effective to make a temporary one. Itd be way easier to skirt the mentals tendency to take on the properties of the external (as in to stop it from making a pretend portal outwards) by making it temporary and purely for utility. The mental would probably react more "yes on it boss ill collapse and invert" if you arent trying to forge something mental.
Homes and pocket spaces... I personally - just so we're on the same page, you dont have to agree w this use of the word or use the words like this - i see pocket realms/spaces and realms proper differently. Not even based on size, but function. Effectively.... Theres more types of spacetime than atomic, realms are their own sort of... realities with their own spacetime, pocket realms/pocket spaces are... specifically sort of... uh. Realms are dresses, pocket realms are pockets on those dresses. Dens under trees, in that they tuck into spacetime thats tucked into spacetime
Its definitely possible to realm weave or pocket space weave. I.... im gonna be honest I wont recommend it at all before one's familiar with astral-mental spectrum things. Specifically if you cant tell with pretty high certainty when somethings mental youll probably end up weaving a mental realm which. is. devastating or can be. its devastating to find out your entire territory, people you know and love, and so on are all masks of the mental lmfao ie nonexistent. part of why i want to shoo people away from reality shifting before they have a huge grasp on the mental and the "reality" creation function.
Theres several ways to do it though. My realm is actually woven through... what im going to call gateworking, and chronomancy. Using reality itself as a system of gates, utilising my aspect of the fabric of spacetime to stitch a pattern on my own fabric.... insert one of my selves answering to Yog-Sothoth here, I Am That Which Is And Is Not. Knowledge/data/code-weaving and shit. this is to say that my own experience is. not. going to be applicable to everyone. Ive seen others weave tapestries, or plant seeds in the folds of reality, but at that point you need to know how to programme thread and seed.
I think seeds are... not necessarily the easiest method (realmweaving a stable realm beyond a mental flimsy movie set of a place is already not easy lmfao) but i find them actually the most intuitive type of magic to teach others - as in someone brought it up and im like "huh, yeah, thats good actually". But... then you need to know legitimisation and shit. The process (in my eyes) would be programming a seed, slipping it between the cracks of non-spacetime where theres a necessary gap and set of substances, and "watering" it - this is a good method because it allows the ability to grow something one cant more consciously guide and grow and allows magic to spread virulently into a self-sustaining realm...
But - you specifically asked how one may obtain one... I would really just suggest getting a realmweaver to make you one or... making a claim on someone else's territory lmfao. Obviously that last one is a human social faux pas at best, horrifically selfishly violent at worst, but look. we gore others for their territory all the time over there lmfao
Either way... im sure theres more beginner guides to making these things? But... I genuinely dont recommend beginners get in on this. I kinda do, Ive said before and Ill say it again that for certain species (fae especially, and I am part Void Fae so that checks out) its a third function like growing ones own body and conceiving/growing a child, and... people have a right to their own bodily functions without having to be super knowledgeable on shit
however... theres so much that can go wrong that its... it is possible to grow a realm/pocket reality without -
actually. hold a minute. I hate when people presume competence and skill levels over text. I need to actually clarify what Im talking about here because Im not presuming youre "just some lousy beginner haha im soooo much better than you" type shit I loathe that. So specifically: Im presuming you dont have access to libraries of information in the astral with records of realmweaving + what realms are + the differences between mental and astral, i presume you havent been brought through testing learning by spirits to show you the differences between mental and astral, and i presume you dont have the ability to talk with spirit teachers to have them guiding you along the process... Which is all absolutely possible to get, its just this is basically the level I would suggest being at before realmweaving, and uh. when youre at that level - hence why i presume you arent - generally you learn from those means rather than tumblr. Meant totally neutrally here, i still learn shit from tumblr (and hey i mean clearly im ON tumblr im typing on it right now, this isnt a bad thing)
The dangers specifically are just... Hermes' warnings were specifically about the Mental and oh my god did he impress that on me and boy do i get why. The astral? Worst thing you can go through is probably for the average person being hunted down and having your family slaughtered in front of you and then being killed and having to come back to your body and live with it. Worst thing on average for that same person mentally? Ohhhhh fucking boy. way worse. You could go through all that and have to cope with it not being real - or never find out it wasnt real, and then keep going through it, and then start becoming psychotic irt hallucinations, and then completely lose yourself, lose your ability to interact w any reality, etc. the Mental is..... If you lose your body, you still have your mind. If you lose your mind, you have nothing - and youre still forced to live through having nothing, because if you cant sever your connection to your reality because youre no longer able to tell what reality is... its fucked! Mental is extremely dangerous lmfao
Dont take this as discouragement. Chemicals in a lab can do horrible fucking things to you and fuck you up for life, but you can learn chemistry quite easily if you just. take the steps to do it lmfao. Same with this, skill here is just. learning to navigate risks. Also honestly if you do fuck around to find out you probably wont have anything hugely awful happen, its just... when you get stuck in the mental and cant tell the difference between simulated reality and the mental - which are, 100%, indistinguishably, identical because we perceive reality through the mental, the feeling of and experience of "real" is a mental function uh. anyway

Parrots often latch onto one person if they're not properly socialised to accept a flock. This can be really drastic in cockatoos, who are known for intense mourning and self-harm (mostly seen in plucking) after losing the single person they're attached to.

#And then there's a lot of spam for some reason and from time to time HSR people#but as a reference to that one Black Swa.n video‚ nothing to do with HI3 Kalpas#I talk too much#Mei went to talk to him and Kalpas sent her to ask Sakura instead and it made me want to jump off a cliff#Everything they say and don't say in reference to each other and even when it doesn't look directly about each other is so good and charged#I love the fact they despite how Mei gets along best with Sakura probably out of anyone else in the Flame Chasers#she finds Kalpas more approachable and more 'useful' to direct her questions to#given Sakura uses vague metaphors to reply while Kalpas‚ if he replies‚ is very direct#That's something that I noticed pretty early on playing Elysian Realm and that is the seed of why I came to like him so much#How ironically trustworthy and honest and... gentle he is. How ironically he was one of the FCs that gave the least amount of red flags#And how once one learnt to manage him he was actually quite easy to deal with and trustworthy in what to expect#How if he said something it would be the truth‚ no mincing#and if he didn't want to share something he wouldn't beat around the bush about it either#I didn't have much expectations about this but I love how they have steadily constructed this facet of him and him in general as a character#and his dynamics around this idea. It's truly at his core. How Elysia says he always keeps his word even if it costs him great effort#but also always expects the same or the other. How that works with Sakura. How he's loud and direct and she is silent and hides so much#yet they know and understand and get each other. How they work together. How they have conversations in which they don't utter#but the half of it yet they both know what they're talking about perfectly and know the reasons as well as the reason for the absences#I found Sakura quite bland due to how this reflects on her individually and I found Kalpas at the very beginning very annoying for the same#but the mix of both their characters and how they work together is wonderful. It's truly a joy to see how they work together#and I love how evocative of their working together in missions it could get. But even beyond that. Just. As people#Normal people regarded as monsters and othered‚ so very shy and alienated‚ just talking. Being normal with each other#Because they were and they regarded the other as such. But also knew they weren't and thus why they could understand#Sakura says they didn't really go into all that many missions together but they did talk. And you see them and you understand#Or course you did. Bet it was soft and pleasant and half a silence. Everything direct but also half absence#Like many of their interactions in ER‚ about nothing important and about everything that matters#Half direct half absence like how Sakura went herself to see what was going on in that town and Kalpas asks#Like Kalpas still fumes about not being told when she decided to escape with Rin and now offers but doesn't say why straight away#'Kalpas is back' and everyone shuts up in fear‚ but he comes back and talks with Sakura and his voice doesn't boil#It's calm and even playful. Makes me wonder about their conversations. Makes me wonder about Rin. I love how they are constructed

- they all have a set of three somethings to also symbolize their unity and need for three
- yes they look cluttered, that’s the point
- i wanted to add lipstick originally, it wouldn’t have gone well
heart:
- lwk my least favorite of the designs, like he’s not ugly he’s just not my favorite
- three pairs of wings because his wings are his prize characteristic, to symbolize unity
- his moon halo doubles as the seraphim eye halo, mostly bc he got three pairs of wings so it looked cool and fitting
- water pattern because the moon controls the tides, also ironically because he cries the most (he’s got tears on the big face cross and throughout the water patterns)
- crossed-out eyes in blue and red because soul took his sight after he went after mind
- flowy mythic clothing to drive home that almost angelic look

- honestly my favorite, i’m very proud of how he turned out
- three dramatic horns because it’s a staple, then when combined with the noose it’s shaped like a trident!!

Just....thinking about how Van uses humour to mask emotions. Frequently. And by that I mean like. All the time. Do we ever really see Van get upset outside of a group setting? No, not really. We got that one frog/tent scene in ep8 but prior to that? Nothing. And that goes for the adult timeline as well.
But I mean think about it. She gets left in a plane and the next joke she cracks is "You're on fire today Jackie- oh wait...that was supposed to be me, huh?" She's upset she got left in the plane, and reasonably so. But jokes are the only time we see her actually communicate that to anyone verbally. Tai is consistently the ONLY person we see her be genuinely vulnerable with. We see her soften for others a couple times, but rarely does she soften for herself.
I mean hell, she gets almost burnt alive after getting mauled by wolves and how does she talk about it? "Fire?? Really??" and "You killed a wolf for me, which is about the most attractive thing someone could do." neither of these statements are serious- they both have this overtone of humour.
And I mean you could also say that on top of Van writing "I love you" in blood being self sacrifice, its also a testament to her humour. Her Girlfriend just got possessed and drew blood by biting her lip and not only does she affirm that she loves her, she uses the blood from that injury to say that. She's taking the pain she has and making jokes about it in order to make others feel better- and the I love you is the most literal translation of that.
Van shows distaste through humour, its her more subtle way of communicating. Eg, Adult Van "sounds like your hands were really tied there- oh wait, those were her hands." its a joking sentence, but really, its also showing her disapproval. We can see that Van isn't happy with Misty for killing Jessica, but does she explicitly say that? No. Instead she cracks a joke about it.
Even in her arguement with Tai back in season 2, where Van gets annoyed at Tai for trying to walk away without letting her help because "she has to help her after seeing her like this", what does she do during that arguement? Start making references to movies. "I'm mixing up my pop culture metaphors cause I'm fucking upset!!!" Iconic line. But also. Really shows how she copes with bad situations.
Van's reactions to bad things both in the adult and teen timeline have consistantly been humour. Its not exactly deflecting the fact that there's an issue, its more downplaying it. She sees that something is wrong and she doesn't approve of it? Joke about it. She sees that she's hurt physically/mentally? Joke about it. That way nobody worries too much, they get a laugh out of it, and she can tell herself that she at least kind of addressed it.

I'm gonna add to my previous post because I've been ruminating on it and there's something else that I found striking about Lucanis and his relationship with Caterina and his family dynamics (and yes, this might be a coincidence, but I still find it interesting).
Grandmothers, in Italian culture, are custodians of the family traditions specifically in regards to food. They preserve and pass on family recipes. It's not unusual to hear people say "this is how my grandma made it", and families collect their own recipe books that sometimes are true archival treasures, with centuries old recipes copied by hand over and over. Sometimes they even pass on cooking tools (I inherited a cake stamp) and spice mixes. The greatest book of Italian cuisine actually references nonna's recipe books as the main source of the Italian culinary tradition. And to many of us, food is strongly associated with memories and remembrance.
It's not always so linear. My grandmas didn't pass on anything to us, there was a break in our family traditions. So my mum stole from others' nonnas recipes and built our family recipes book and we have that to inherit. She made other recipes her own, and she built a treasure for our family.
It's probably a coincidence but I find it metaphorically beautiful that Lucanis too takes it upon himself to take on this role of custodian of tradition for his family both as head of the house and First Talon, and also taking up cooking. His grandma did not have anything to pass on to him but death "I only know death", he says it himself. But he takes it upon himself to break this cycle and to be the person his grandma wasn't. He cooks, nurtures others, learns new recipes from other cultures, he steals them from other families (Emmrich), and maybe one day he will pass it on. I know not many people love that Lucanis becomes First Talon, but I like to think that in the same way, he takes the mantle and one day he starts breaking cycles there too, and making up new traditions and passing them on. He is the best suited for that job, after all.

Dc x Dp Prompt #24: The Midwest Prince(ss)
Danny is a Singer/Siren/Banshee au where he’s basically a Chappel Roan-type figure.( Also, I'm Dead on Main trash so Strangers-to-Friends-to-Lovers, Celebrity x Civilian romance for two of my favorite boys)
Danny’s Ghostly Wail develops into vocal manipulation bc he’s a siren or banshee. Ember teaches him to sing and control the power. He finds music is a good outlet for his emotions and decides to pursue music as Danny. It takes him a few years but he develops a style and brand that he bases off the Realms. However, he doesn’t anyone to connect him to Phantom so he uses parts of his ancestors’ names to become “Walker Gale”(shout out to my beautiful mutual @mirigold-mayflowers for helping me pick that name), ordinary small-town midwestern boy turned Music Icon. He hires Val as his personal bodyguard, Sam as his manager, and Tucker as his head stage tech.
He dresses in really campy clothes the low-key mimic his ghost form as well as other ghosts he’s met. The outfits change to match the vibe of the song. So a rock ballad with an outfit inspired by Ember, Show Tunes-Murder Mystery-type-beat with a costume for Amorpho, EDM-techno-hyperpop themed song styled after Technus or Skulker, etc. He just has a lot of fun experimenting with his appearance and he’s an icon for it. He even makes friends with Star and Paulina through this and they give him feedback and help with new looks. The eventually join the team as his PR and Styling team.
Since he’s a banshee/siren all his songs have this underlying despair/sadness even if they have a fun and bubbly beat. He also references his feelings about being/hiding as Phantom and being partially dead and shit but vaguely so no one actually knows or assumes it’s a metaphor. Many of the themes are actually things lgbtq people identify with, specifically trans and bi fans. He also references battles he’s fought and ppl assumes he’s talking about mental illness or abuse which attracts another category of fans altogether. Again inspired by Chappel Roan his first album his called "The Ascent and Downfall of a Midwest Prince" gaining him the nickname the "Midwest Prince".
He’s weird and unfiltered and full of emotion and he gains a few fans in the hero community too. Raven and Zatanna start a fan club for him, well aware he’s some type of banshee/siren but knowing that the extent of his powers are being used to deliver beautiful performances. The are staunch supporters of him and his music and spread it to their friends. The current fan club is Co-Presidents Zatanna + Raven, VP Greta(Secret, a.k.a: a ghost hero), Starfire, Bart, Cassie, Tim, Kon + Jon, Steph, Cass, and Billy.
His identifying features are a signature make-up look and white underdye (when the color is on the underside of the hair). He’s grown his hair longer so it’s not super visible when he has it down and not styled. He also looks different without make-up so he can totally go unrecognized in public and live life semi-normal (as normal as a half-ghost vigilante powerhouse superstar can be). He actually planned it to be that way so that he could still go to college and stuff even though he’s doing it mostly online. All this to say that Danny has low-key got a Hannah Montana thing going on. Also, let's mix it up a bit and say he's based in Star City.
One day Danny goes to a second-hand book store because he's looking for a cheap textbook when he bumps into an absolute hunk of a man who doesn't seem to recognize him. Jason had been in Star City to visit Roy and Lian. He stopped at a second-hand bookstore to see if he look for some older editions of books (one time he found a second edition copy of Persuasion so he likes to peruse) and ran into a super pretty boy who made his chest feel funny and doesn't realize he's a Wayne. They got to talking about started really connecting. They decided to exchange numbers and kept in touch, meeting up every now and then when they had the chance. Danny gave him his private social media accounts so Jason never learned much more beyond that Danny worked in the music industry but not his exact role in it.
Eventually Danny moves to Gotham, either bc he switched labels or to be closer to Jazz whose doing her doctorate thesis on reforms that need to be made in Arkham. He and Jason begin meeting up in person more frequently and start catching feelings. Danny really wants to ask him out but feels sleazy doing it without telling Jason about his past and superstar alter ego. However, he also doesn't want to lose the mostly normal friendship they have. On the flipside Jason wants to date Danny but doesn't want to drag him into the life of a vigilante or the life of a Wayne. Both of them Pine and Agonize over this. In the end Danny decides to bite the bullet and tell Jason who he is, every part of who he is. He invites Jason over for a movie night and tells him he's got something important to tell Jason.
That same day Starfire decides to introduce Walker Gale's work to the other Outlaws and Jason really resonates with his work. He identifies with the lyrics on a literal and physical level and recognizes the underlying emotions that usually only other ghosts or liminals can. Starfire overjoyed that her friend likes his music decides to show Jason some of his music videos and photos. Jason, not being blind or an idiot, recognizes not only the props and costumes but his crushes face under that (very well done) make-up.
Jason is stunned and conflicted: it’s not like Danny lied to him about who he was, but he was entirely truthful either. Did he assume Jason knew? Or did he just not trust Jason? Why did he even bother with Jason, a seemingly regular guy, if he had such a claim to fame? And Jason keeps listening to his music and it’s speaks to him the same way hanging out with Danny does, making him feel seen and connected. It makes him all the more sure that someone incredible as Danny doesn’t need someone like Jason. He heads to Danny’s place that night very subdued.
He gets to Danny’s place and the smile that greets him twists him up inside. He puts on a mask and tries to act normal but Danny can tell somethings up but persists as he has made up his mind to be clear with Jason. He sits him down and tells him there is something important he wants to tell Jason. He starts by letting Jason know that he cares about him very much and appreciates the normality and closeness of their friendship. He confesses that he doesn't normally get that bc well, he's the superstar "Walker Gale". Danny goes onto say that the reason he didn't say anything earlier was because he treasures the simplicity of what he had with Jason and the reason he's telling him now is because he couldn't continue a relationship that he wants more from without being completely honest.
Jason's heart thunders in his chest and he stares at Danny with a slightly constipated look. Danny asks Jason what's wrong and on an impulse Jason word vomits his feelings. That he actually found out through a friend earlier today, that he really connected to his music the same way he did with Danny, that he's never felt seen the way Danny sees through him, that he's never felt the same way as deeply before, that he's completely and utterly in love with Danny but was scared to say anything and get him involved with his crazy life and the Waynes. And Danny sits and listens shellshocked.
And the only thing Danny can think to do is kiss this incredible boy senseless and tell him that if he likes him back then they can figure it out.

Rise Characterizations
Last month I did an in-depth re-watch of rottmnt s1 to take some notes on writing the characters of rise from their perspective and such. Figured I'd share what I found, but I'm also posting this bc my docs have a nasty habit of blipping out of existence.
We'll start with Raph bc he's the oldest of course, but I'll post the others sep. bc this is gonna get long!!
Raph Character Notes

Catchphrases: "like a boss", "smash"
Verbalizes his attacks such as "smash", "knuckle sandwich", "power smash jitsu", "tonfa power jitsu", "mystic punch jitsu"
Uses older song titles for surprised exclamations or in place of cursing, most notably "jumping jack flash!"
Uses aave/bae, For example: 'em instead of them, 'ey instead of they, 'cause instead of because, forgoes the g in ing words (going becomes goin')
Uses less and less grammar the more he's stressed, and his voice will come to a higher pitch
Will speak in a softer tone to his little brothers if he's concerned about hurting their feelings. Aka babying them
Mixes up both metaphors and idioms. Would be one to say how the turn tables unironically

Protective of his family

Carries the weight, in a literal sense he piggy backs his brothers, but will also use his body as a shield from danger. Unfortunately this also means he takes his brothers a little less seriously (Mikey the most common victim), and will try and either protect them from everything or as an oldest sibling everything has go "his way"
Doesn't do well in solitude. Needs to be looking after people to feel functional, and needs to be around people to feel safe
Clumsy, "takes horrible pictures", isn't very good at hiding, he's a big guy so it probably took a lot of time to find balance
A sweet guy who still won't shy from making fun of his family. Leo tends to be the brunt of his teasing since he is the most annoying, but he will also poke Donnie on his dramatics
Likes cute things!!! Has a teddy bear collection and loves animals. It's so cool how this isn't played off as a joke and he's still just as masculine for liking pink and cutesy stuff
Likes fighting!!! Gets a lot of energy out defeating bad guys (where he directs his anger towards), the one who is shown to train the most, and also weight lifts in his spare time
Doesn't do well under pressure, here the anger comes out the most. He gets stressed when it's all on him, especially since he tends to mess up the most in these moments

all of grampa's experiences with others in life have been transactional, likely since childhood, to the point that he is unable to see others in any way other than a means to an end
while his son, petey, fits an NPD diagnosis almost exactly, grampa seems to fit an ASPD diagnosis almost exactly.

this is the most open he has been about his feelings. and its in an altered state
this is a metaphor for people who avoid therapy and medication, instead opting into dependence on recreational drugs to regulate and process their emotions

petey hangs onto the hate towards his father because it's the only thing he has left with him in relation to his father. giving up the hate would mean giving up his father, and deep down he still just wants to be loved, so he settles for what he's given

being a witness to abuse is really hard, especially when you're trying to explain it to someone who wasn't around to see it, someone younger. you want to protect them from the harsh knowledge, but you want them to understand your pain. it's even harder when you have to watch your other parent simply take it, settle with the abuse, because they feel like there's no escape. it makes you lose hope and really shapes your expectations for what life will look like for the worse.

side note: the composition of these frames is really nice... in the second frame, his son's speech bubble comes from behind him, as if it's sneaking up on him. the sizzling of the pan goes off the page to the right, continuing as his son talks, but it abruptly stops once he finishes the sentence. it literally shows the room going quiet.
in the last frame, petey is super far behind him. there's a divide between him. it's as if li'l petey is fading into the background and an invisible barrier, petey's memories, is brought to the foreground. a divide between them, really showing how different their experiences of life are.
i also appreciate how the color changes of the background went through these panels, starting a deep angry color, fading to a more neutral, some tension with the yellow, and then desaturating as the question is asked.

this was created so beautifully.
the third panel is absolutely stunning, the symbolism managed in the imagery in such a simplistic comic is incredible. the bottled weeds from earlier in the book on the counter, the weeds that li'l petey specifically referred to as dying, which ended up symbolizing resistance in struggle... in this scene, it means both of those things at the same time. there's a duality.
also, the buds of the weeds being white i assume symbolizes grief and loss. outside, it's dark, the world is a dark place, but they've made a loving home together, which is why the walls are still multicolored. petey is struggling with issues from the past, but this time he's not alone and he can't give up. it's a lot of mixed feelings, just like the mixed colors on the wall.

and now grampa has no choice to accept the situation for how it is. it's settled and boundaries are set. he can't wriggle out of them. it was a direct, neutral statement with no judgement. when you're in the wrong, sometimes that's the hardest thing to sit with. if someone tells you something you did with no judgement and you feel ashamed because of it, you can't blame it on the way they said it, you can only blame it on what you did.
