Free Manual Wheelchair Reference Models
Tumblr media
ID: A banner with grey 3D models of 5 kinds of manual wheelchairs in a line in front of the disability pride flag and text that reads "Manual Wheelchair References" /End ID
For disability pride month, I decided to release a pack of 3D manual wheelchair models.
The pack includes 5 wheelchairs:
2 Active urban-style chairs (one of which includes a smart drive)
1 off-road active chair
1 children's wheelchair
and 1 standard "hospital" wheelchair).
All the wheelchairs are based off either wheelchairs I or friends of mine have used
Downloadable here!
or on the Clip Studio Paint Asset Store (ID 2097442) (there's been an issue with the CSP version, but the models in the download folder can be imported into clip studio paint until I can fix it)
More info about the download contents below:
The first download link includes the original .Blend file with all 5 chairs, as well as individual .obj or .fbx files the chairs (All but 1 have an .obj file, as they're only meshes. The chair with the smart drive is rigged, which is why it has an .Fbx file instead so it will retain that information) as well as a "read me" file that explains in more depth what kind of disability/character/lifestyle each chair is made for (These are just what I had in mind when I designed them, they are usable by other characters who don't fit the suggestions for the most part!) I wanted to include the Read Me contents in the CSP Asset Store listing, but CS said it was too long lol.
Also, as the title says, these files are free to use! While it's not mandatory, I would appreciate credit if you use them (or even just a tag so I can see the cool art you make with them!!)
I actually made these ages ago, the original plan was to use them in a series of posts then release the pack, but I never got around to making the series and so they've just been sitting here. I took a day off from art fight attacks to clean them all up and get them ready to post. If you experience any issues, let me know and I'll try to fix it up.
I had a couple more that were supposed to be in the pack including a sports (basketball/Tennis) wheelchair and some different styles of wheelchair, but I think the files corrupted so once I fix (or remake) them, I'll probably make a second pack.
If you have any issues, please let me know!

You don't wish your disability was worse or more visible, you wish your disability was taken seriously. Please stop confusing the two, I guarantee you would not get the support you need JUST by being more severe or more visible. Please listen to visibly disabled people when we tell you it isn't better on our side
#m/cc#mine#I tried extremely hard to word this nicely because I KNOW people don't mean bad and often even know there are unique challenges#and believe me I know the challenges of invisible disability too!!#I have invisible disabilities!#but as someone who has also been at least visibly 'off' since they were 10 I am SO SICK of invisible disabilities being hailed as like#a unique extra oppression that us lucky visibly disabled people don't have to deal with#there are challenges to invisible disabilities that visibly disabled people DON'T have to deal with!#but you need to understand that *the reverse is also true*#there are MASSIVE benefits to being able to lie about your disability for example#or not dealing with the overt ableism that comes with your disability being obvious to everyone#*I do not have the option to pretend I'm not disabled.* that is never an option I have#I walk weirdly. I use a mobility aid now. my speech and face are 'off.' I lean to one side#for a long time I wore sunglasses 24/7 and often didn't make sense. I sometimes can't speak or won't react to others#for the most part people will always know that at the very least something is wrong with me#and more obviously I have people telling me they'll pray for me; telling me I can't do things I'm already in the process of doing;#wanting to shake my hand to tell me I'm an inspiration for not killing myself; giving me dirty looks for existing in public#and yes. I'm aware that this is very much an in-community issue. I know the average abled person doesn't know invisible disabilities exist#that's why there's so much awareness happening for it#but as a visibly disabled person I get SO TIRED of constantly hearing 'I wish my disability was visible :'('#it's just 'I wish I had your disability!' but from other disabled people

❗CRIPPLE TIPS❗
✨ Able bodied friends edition ✨
If you are in a group that includes anybody who is using a mobility aid, if you are out and about and a Stairs Situation arises, either ask them which they'd prefer, or opt for the elevator (given your group is small enough. If not, have a couple friends use the elevator with your disabled friend, after asking if this is what they prefer (they may enjoy a moment alone, everybody is an individual with their own preferences). This means they don't lose the emotional "high" of being part of a group, conversation can continue so they won't suddenly feel lonely and excluded on the solo elevator ride, which can creep in and ruin their mood especially if they're new to their disability, and there's less of a chance of confusion once you're at your destination. Nobody likes being lost, but the inherent exhaustion and physical exertion that comes with using and mobility aid is incredibly... Unfun. And distressing! This can be easily avoided and you have the chance to be an Excellent friend! We notice these things!
This post is about being Physically Disabled, Able bodied people are encouraged to reblog, but Do Not Derail-- make your own post if you need to say something not related to being physically disabled.

Disabled people are people. Therefore you can’t start touching me or grabbing my things without permission. If I say don’t touch me you do not ignore my wishes because I’m disabled. Just like any other person I have a right to autonomy over my body and my decisions. Unless you have been given permission or it’s an emergency, you cannot simply start touching me. I’m not an object I am a person. Being disabled doesn’t mean you, a random stranger get to make decisions for me. If it seems someone is in need of help ask them. If they say no you don’t then forcefully help them because you think you know better than them what they need.

Shout out to all the tumblr users dealing with daily fatigue and severe depression.
Respect to those who have medium and high support needs who need assistance with bodily functions.
Love to those who cannot safely leave their bedrooms or home due to the pandemic and lack of societal support.
Care to those who spend the majority of their life online because this is the only way they can socialize with the outside world
There are so many of us trying to make it day to day. I love you and you're not alone in this.
I love you people who have to be carried, lifted, or escorted in mobility aids to do daily living tasks
I love you people who depend entirely on your cariers and personal aids for every function
I love you people who haven't been able to shower in over a week and therefore have tangled or matted hair and body odour
I love you people who have been wearing the same clothes for over a week
I love you people who dont have the energy to get out of bed to use the bathroom and need to use diapers or a bed pan
I love you people who havent been able to cook their own meal in months
I love you people who have piles of dirty clothes and trash scattered around their room
I love you people who uncontrollably drool on yourself and your property
I love you people who have slowly lost mobility and function over time and are adjusting to their new life

something i don't see talked about much is how people treating disabled people like we are abled can actually be harmful.
i was leaving work and had my cane, i was very tired and in pain. people outside of my store advertising for the world wildlife fund tried to stop me to talk about the environment until they saw i worked there, which is nice, but you probably shouldn’t stop anyone with a mobility aid who is walking. please don’t guilt us into taking extra time to stand in a hot sun, we actually need to go sit down, or it takes us longer to get somewhere so we really don’t have the time to.
don’t infantilize me, but also acknowledge i need extra help or rest. why is that so hard?

This is your friendly reminder that just because lgbtqia+ pride month is over does not mean pride has stopped!
Happy disability pride month to all my fellow disabled people!
Tumblr media
Another friendly reminder that yes, we have a flag! (Something I didn't even know until last year and I've been disabled my whole life)
Big companies will not sell products with this flag on it, there won't be parades, it won't be talked about on national television, nor will this flag be displayed in many places if at all; but we're still here and in many many places disabled people are still fighting for rights only abled people have. Our pride is important.
This month is for both physical disabilities AND mental disabilities, don't forget that
Happy disability pride 💚💚💚

it's so disheartening when you realise that even the people closest to you doubt the validity of your disability.
believe people when they say they have a disability, don't deny them because they don't fit the criteria of what you think is 'disabled'.
