Get Pumped!
Tumblr media
This started as just a simple solution to allow my Sims to work out without a TV, radio or gym equipment present but I’m a fitness nut so I knew I couldn’t stop there. I love working out and am always trying out new workouts or gyms like people try out food or clothes. It’s one of my favorite hobbies IRL so I was happy to try and make more exercise/fitness things for my athletic Sims.
This is the Exercise Mat I previewed a few weeks (months?) ago and I added a few more features like the ability to teach classes and also free weights (dumbbells and kettlebell).
Credit/Thanks: @aroundthesims for the free weights and kettlebell which are hers. I only recategorized them to Sports/Hobbies. Mats and board are EA. Animations by me, Mixamo and EA!
All the info and download link are after the jump, read through it all before downloading!
Exercise Mat:
Sims can do different floor and body weight exercises on the mat, which are skill gated:
Sit ups, squats: Level 2
Push ups, single-leg squats, bicycle crunches: Level 3
Burpees: Level 4
Sims can also stretch which has benefits if you do it before and/or after exercising.
Stretching before: the Feeling Limber moodlet will prevent your Sim from getting fatigued so long as it is active
Stretching after: the Feeling Limber moodlet will remove soreness if you have it
If there is an instructor mat on the lot, you can assign the mat to the instructor mat so Sims will use it for classes
Tumblr media
Instructor Mat: This mat lets Sims who have Athletic skill 5 or higher teach exercise classes.
Assign Instructor - sets who the instructor will be for the mat
Schedule Class - self-explanatory; select a time a date to host a class
Start Class - if you don’t want to wait, you can start a class now. Instructors will wait 20 sim minutes (tunable) before starting the class to allow interested Sims to join.
Toggle Stereo - requires IP to work, adds a stereo to the instructor mat so you can play music during class
Tumblr media
Free Weights:
You can lift dumbbells or kettlebells. That's pretty much it. These guys look super happy about it.
You only need one dumbbell. The other one is a prop which will be created once your Sim starts lifting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gym Board:
Check Scheduled Classes
Sign Up for Class (Note: you can't sign up for classes that have no spots available but you can still show up and try to get a spot if there's a no show)
Cancel Sign Up
Cancel Class
Tumblr media
Gym Classes:
Instructors can hold Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced gym classes, the difference in difficulty affects the fat/muscle delta, fatigue level and athletic skill gain. The ability to hold different class levels is skill gated at Levels 5, 6 and 7 respectively.
If you schedule a class, the instructor and any Sims that sign up for the class will be pushed to the lot an hour before the class starts. Sims cannot join a class after it starts but if they leave before the class ends, they still get charged.
The cost per person is based on the class level and the instructor’s athletic skill. If you have NRaas Career and the Instructor is in the Trainer skill-based career, they will also earn extra money and the funds will go towards their career advancement.
If there are no spots available, you can still check what time the class is and get information on the class if you want to show up and see if a spot opens up.
If classes are hosted on a non-park community lot, like a gym, 25% of the class fees will go to the venue (the venue owner will receive this if it’s owned).
You can check and sign up for scheduled classes on the gym board object. Instructors can also cancel classes there.
There are two "rewards" available: Top Trainer and Gym Rat. Top Trainers are Sims that have taught at least 20 classes. After achieving that, their classes are worth more and they also keep a larger percentage of the cost per student. Gym Rats are Sims that have taken at least 10 classes after which they get a discount on any other classes afterwards.

Notes:
My suggestion is to organize the class room like how I have in my photos with the mats horizontal facing the instructor. I'd also space them out more than I did as some of the exercises involve a lot of jumping/moving around but I have small lots so I have to squeeze in as much as I can! With this plus Twin's spin class and yoga mods, I'm going to need a bigger gym!!
The instructor will face whichever mat is first in the list of assigned mats so I would suggest assigning the front center mat first.
You can have multiple instructors/instructor mats on the same lot but an instructor can only be assigned to one mat.
Sims cannot take a class if they don't have more than $400 in their family funds. You can change this if you like but I don't want my broke inactives spending money on gym classes (we have gym at home!)
If Sims are not autonomously joining classes or using the mat, it’s probably because you have too many advertising objects on your lot that are competing with it. You can up the advertising for the mat but it’s already quite high so you just have to figure out how to balance it. The Join Class interaction does advertise fun and social in addition to the standard Athletic Game Object advertising so I would suggest upping that in order to get more attention from Sims.
The animation of Sims picking up/dropping the free weight is kind of wonky. I may try to fix it later.
There’s a collection file for all the objects but you will find all of them under Entertainment/Sporting Goods. Nothing is more expensive than 150 simoleons.
This is set for YA+ because a) some of the animations will sink for teens and b) they are always trying to do their fucking homework around each other while I'm holding classes and it drove me crazy. You can change the ITUN if you want teens to use it but you've been warned.
Future updates: I'm already thinking about using a similar system to create dance classes. Making an active Dancer career is something I’ve wanted for a while and I have a Sim that would be perfect to test it.
As always, if you run into any issues, let me know!

Life without a sugar daddy was rough.
As Toji Fushiguro's ex-wife and Naoya Zenin's ex-mistress, Mari faced this harsh reality since no one threw their money in her direction anymore. She slept little this past week, overwhelmed by financial stressors. While she still subsisted on the younger executive's credit card (with his fortune, Naoya hardly noticed the charges on his bill), she realized that she actually had to work for an income.
Such was the case as Mari walked home one evening after interviewing for jobs, her body and mind exhausted from fielding mundane questions about her previous professional experiences (which she had little of).
Upon unlocking her apartment door, she was immediately greeted by the sight of her illuminated living room.
That struck her as odd.
She always switched the lights off before she left.
However, when she spotted a familiar face down the hall, she found the answer.
"Tsumiki." Mari dropped her purse by the door. "What are you doing here?”
The woman had not seen her one and only blood-related child in months. While she knew that her daughter—who was, without doubt, a fantastically accomplished and intelligent young lady—just completed her second year at Oxford University, she thought the girl had chosen to remain in England for her summer break. Didn't Toji mention that she did not want to return to Tokyo?
Not that Mari complained. She was just...confused.
Admittedly, Mari should know the answer to her question, but she had been too ‘occupied’ to contact Tsumiki as much as a good mother should. As a result, Mari found herself in the dark about the girl's life in the United Kingdom, her plans for the university holiday, and her recent classes in…what was her field of study again?
Surely, Toji and his twerp son Megumi would know all the answers since Tsumiki had always been closer to her Fushiguro stepfamily. Quite a shame, since Mari would have considered her daughter as the most perfect angel otherwise.
She toed her shoes off.
“When did you arrive in Tokyo?” Mari continued with a plastered smile and approached the girl sitting with crossed arms in the living room.
Genetics ran deep between mother and daughter. Uninformed observers might even mistake the pair as sisters, the physical resemblance uncanny in how Tsumiki presented a more youthful version of the older woman by sharing the same warm chocolate-colored eyes, long dark hair, and flawless porcelain skin.
Yet, physical similarities meant nothing when Mari could not fully decipher her own flesh and blood.
“I came back to Japan earlier this week,” Tsumiki responded a terse edge in her tone.
“But I haven’t seen you until now.”
“Because I’ve been staying with Dad.”
“Oh.” So, she meant with Toji. “You mean your stepdad.”
“No,” she corrected sternly. “He's my dad.”
Theoretically, Mari could go into a whole tangent on how Tsumiki’s actual father was some middle-class nobody whom she hadn’t seen or spoken to since her first divorce (and that was many years ago). Or how the Fushiguros technically were Tsumiki’s ex-stepfamily since Mari had divorced her second husband Toji earlier this year.
But she spared her daughter from the reminders.
“Well, I’m glad to see you back, honey.” With a bottle of unfinished cabernet sauvignon in the fridge, Mari meandered to the kitchen to pour herself a full glass. She returned to living room and joined her daughter on the sofa. “How have you been? I’m guessing England has been treating you well? I have never been, so I wouldn’t know. Heard that the fish and chips are good there."
No response.
Am I being ignored? Mari commented inwardly and swirled the red wine in her chalice.
She took her first sip amid the long and awkward pause before switching the topic to encourage conversation. "Anyway, whenever you would like, you’re always welcome to stay a few nights here. Wouldn't hurt to spend some more time with your mother."
Only for Tsumiki to quip, “We’ve talked about this before. I don’t want to live with you.”
Now, this—Mari believed—was certainly uncalled for. "Watch your tone with me, young lady."
"For what? I am not here because I miss you," her daughter resumed. "If I had a better option, I would not bring myself to show up here and be in front of you."
The older woman placed her glass down and tried to appear calm. Hearing Tsumiki speak with such contempt twisted a deep knife into Mari's heart. Once upon a time, her daughter had been the sweetest girl—warm, full of life, and eager to express her innocent thoughts with anyone she encountered. Now, however, that same person had been tainted into someone cold, guarded, and withdrawn, demonstrated by her disrespect to the very woman who had given her life.
"That is no manner to talk to your mother," Mari cautioned.
"Well, maybe because I have my reasons."
"Which are?"
"Do you want to know why I did not bother to text or call you these past several months?" and Tsumiki did not wait for an answer before she angrily added, "Because I am so upset that you filed a divorce with Dad!"
While Mari had hoped to not bring up the topic before, she had no choice but to do so now.
"That big, burly, bulky man is not your father," she snapped. "He and his emo Harvard-bound son are not your family! In the eyes of the law, there is no longer any relation between you and them. But, I am your mother. I had given you life, and this is what you think of me?"
"Because I love them!" Tsumiki opposed through a hardened glare. "Dad and Megumi treat me more like their blood-related family than you do!”
Mari could not believe the preposterous words her daughter spewed. She always presumed that the Fushiguros had been corrupting her child, and to see her suspicions confirmed had Mari standing up promptly from the couch.
"How dare you say after all I have done for you, Tsumiki?" Mari interrogated angrily. "Did you think that I left your biological father and then divorced your stepfather for what...for fun?! These choices were difficult for me, too! But I made those judgments because I wanted to give you a better life in which we didn't have to worry about where our next meal, our next piece of clothing, or our next rent payment would come from! Your biological father is a no-name nothing. He could’ve never supported the lavish lifestyle you had experienced during your adolescent years. In fact, if I hadn’t married Toji Fushiguro, you probably wouldn't be studying at the University of Oxford right now! I, alone, could never have afforded all your years of expensive tutors or private school tuition. Please, think before you speak. I know I did not raise an ungrateful brat.”
Tsumiki furrowed her brows from the comments.
“You're the ungrateful one, Mom!” she insisted, and the said woman visibly reeled back when the girl continued to seethe with antipathy. “All the money that you had spent while married to Dad, he never asked for a single cent back. Never. In fact, he still pays for my university. In his eyes and mine, I’m as good as any blood-related child to him. He hadn't asked you to chip in because he knows you wouldn't have the money to. Divorcing the man you've been leeching off of isn't a sign of appreciation, Mom."
To hear her child defend another family, Mari wasn’t sure if she was going to laugh or cry at how ridiculous this scene was, the only thing she could process being the pain and betrayal that slammed her with one bitter blow.
"Well, did you want to become a laughingstock?" the woman rationalized. "Given our ties to the Zenin name when Toji left the company, those nasty journalists would've clung onto any scrap to label you a buffoon. You know what those tabloid writers are like! I had the foresight to divorce that man. I did not want the disgrace if we remained attached to the Fushiguros."
After that response, Tsumiki turned quiet with one sharp exhale as her eyes snapped shut, and Mari, whose entire body had undulated from heavy and irate breaths, thought that finally—finally—she had won this godforsaken argument.
Until she heard the younger girl speak again.
"Yet, you have humiliated me more than anyone," and noticing how her mother quirked a brow, Tsumiki went on. "Who are you really trying to protect, Mom? Are you truly making these decisions for my benefit? Or is it...for yourself?"
Despite hiding a gulp, the older woman noticed her heart race. "What do you mean?"
"How can you explain this?"
As though that was her cue, Tsumiki reached for her phone. She tapped onto the front page of the Yomiuri Shimbun, the most highly circulated newspaper in Japan. Before Mari could read the bold title labeled as 'Breaking News,' Tsumiki provided her with a verbal summary:
"The world knows you're a homewrecker, Mom."
Tumblr media
Naoya found no surprise when Naobito Zenin burst into his executive suite as an angry bull would charge toward a provoking cape.
Plenty of times, his father barged into his private office completely unannounced, slamming the door open with enough force to rattle the wooden bookshelves behind him. Usually, the dramatic entrance would be followed by a slew of harsh admonitions, and this encounter—Naoya could tell—would be no different.
The astringency cast on his father's countenance gave the executive no other choice than to rise from his seat, his office chair sliding back so he could pose tall and confident as the heir to Japan's largest conglomerate should be.
"Father," he greeted, curt.
Taking hurried steps around his mahogany desk, Naoya aimed to meet the older man halfway until he instead came into contact with one harsh blow that sent his face flogging to the side.
Naoya froze, his gaze lowered.
Instinctively, he reached for his throbbing cheek with one hand as the other wiped briefly over his busted upper lip. To have his father approach him physically like this didn't even register as a surprise. Despite his title as the Zenin CEO, Naoya continued to be scolded, lectured, and outright ignored because, in his father's words, he 'never seemed to get anything right.'
Even now, the older man found no hesitation in cursing out his only child.
"You fucking son of a whore! Want to explain why your affair with Toji's ex-wife is all over Japanese media?!"
Slowly, Naoya lifted his eyes from the floor. He had suspected that this would be the topic of discussion. In the last hour, Naoya saw his name plastered over tabloid pages, news websites, and social media feeds as an anonymous whistleblower tipped publishers in regards to his scandalous affair with Mari—and the millions Naoya spent to hide it. Evidence ranging from supposedly long-gone paparazzi photos to screenshots of money transfers circulated quickly with the internet.
Naturally, Naoya had seen the headlines too...
'Zenin Corporation CEO Exposed for Concealing Affair with Predecessor's Ex-Wife' 'Everything to Know About the Zenin Household's Uncovered Drama in Family, Business, and Love' 'Billionaire Naoya Zenin Entangled in Cheating Scandal, Accused of Bribing Press to Silence Coverage'
...and the comments:
'That’s why you can’t trust rich people. They never have any shame.' 'His wife and company deserve better.' 'Disappointed that this is the scumbag leading our country's largest company.' 'The Board should fire him.’
Now, that last comment struck a very particular chord, especially since the Chairman of that very Board stood before him.
Naoya clenched his hands, yet he stood mute. With every wrong move certain to cost him far too much in return, he was completely powerless in front of the family patriarch and, as a result, his first logical reaction was to defend himself.
"I do not have the evidence yet, but I am certain Toji had planned this, Father. Him, and also Sukuna, Geto, and Choso. All four leaked these details because they didn’t want to see your son succeed. I will resolve this. I am going to call Toji immediately and—“
"You're right," Naobito interrupted coldly. "If Toji had still been CEO today, he would've made sure that none of this bullshit would’ve happened.”
Naoya widened his eyes in bewilderment, not anticipating his father to twist his logic like that. He already received a literal slap across his face, but to realize that Naobito still compared him to his older cousin all these months later drove him insane!
"No, Father. What I meant was—"
"Oh, there is no need to correct me. I know what you meant," Naobito tested in a low voice. "What I gathered from this conversation is that I have given you a million chances in life, and you know what? You blew every single one of them. You're an asshole, you're a cheater, and you're a complete humiliation. I can always count on you to paint me as a failed father."
Outrageous.
With the bitter staring contest between father and son, the latter boiled internally listening to the insults from the man who sired him. For the ruthless Naobito Zenin, Naoya meant no value as an heir without the ability to achieve his high standards.
"Some twisted brain you have for sleeping with your cousin's ex-spouse,” Naobito then chided, yet amusement remained absent in his tone. “Was that the low-class tramp I saw in the photos with you on the private jet the other day?"
The blonde kept his mouth shut.
But his father wanted an answer. "Well?!"
Suck it in, Naoya. That's all you can do now."Yes."
What a sight, to see how someone blazing as a furious flame then erupt into a violent volcano. Naobito grabbed his son's collar, pulling him forward and shoving him against the wall. His fists shook as he sought the other's gaze.
"You're fucking married, you realize that?!" he snarled.
"I do! Which is why I have cut Mari from my life! I don't talk to that woman anymore."
Unimpressed, Naobito tugged forcefully at Naoya's shirt again. "I am truly astonished by what an idiot you are. Your answer doesn't change shit." He tightened his grip and did not care that his son wrapped both hands around his wrist to prevent himself from choking. "Let me tell you something, boy. I did everything—everything—to convince our Chief Operating Officer to let his treasured daughter marry you, you despicable bastard. He didn't want to hand the girl over because he knew—oh, that man is wise!—he knew that the union mainly served as a tactic to improve your public image and that there was little obvious benefit for his child. Power and money did not interest him when compared to his daughter, so the one promise I made is that you would love her," and he roared, "so, what the hell have you done?!"
Naoya had heard his father’s warnings countless times, yet he previously brushed each one aside with an ambivalence he now acknowledged as foolish. Unlike before, the threat to his hard-earned position suddenly became very, verypalpable. He grappled with a strange fear, unable to pinpoint what precisely unsettled him the most. The scorn from a world that no longer saw him as an honest businessman? The sneers from relatives with an undeniable reason to mock him? Or perhaps the fury from his draconian father, whose disappointment cut deeper than any public disgrace?
"I—" Naoya's choked voice resembled a croak. He could hardly breathe. "I apologize. This entire situation...this got out of my control."
Alongside his callous disregard for his son’s feelings, the Zenin patriarch even scoffed.
"This isn’t about getting out of your control, boy. This is about your complete lack of judgment. In fact, Daisuke called me when he saw the headlines, and you know what he told me?" and he had to refrain from flinging his son onto the ground before he continued, "That Y/N's been staying in her family residence again because she is going to leave you!"
Naoya held his next breath. Fuck, he knows. Naoya intended to keep his recent arguments with you a secret, hoping to resolve the situation first. However, since your father snitched...lying would be a dangerous move.
"I have not seen Y/N in a week because we've had a few fights." Naoya did not dare admit the details about how you two became arguing spectacles, first in his cousins' presence and later on at the café. "Just...marriage quarrels. We will get over—"
“She would be a moron to stay married to you,” Naobito cut off. "Y/N and your unborn child deserve more than to have a public disgrace like you in the household."
Right. Had he not been reminded, Naoya would've forgotten that he had lied to his father about your pregnancy, too. His hands grew clammy where they still seized his father’s wrist.
“There"—a cough—"there is no child,” Naoya blurted out, determining to rip all bandaids off in one go.
Naturally, his father became perplexed.
“Excuse me?” His hold loosened just enough for Naoya to gasp properly for his next breath.
“Y/N is not pregnant,” Naoya repeated, his voice hollow with resignation. “During our last family dinner, I only said that because I wanted to please you.”
The older Zenin became still, appalled by the younger one's bravery to say those words. For a moment, Naoya braced himself for another physical blow before his father released him, shoving Naoya backward such that he stumbled.
“If you weren’t so disappointing, there would be no need for you to lie to me,” Naobito pointed out coldly. "Not only to me, but also your wife, your colleagues, and your shareholders on matters about your family, your marriage, or your commitment to the company. If Toji had not brought this to the media's attention, how much longer would you have manipulated the truth for your benefit?"
There he went again.
"I don't understand," Naoya protested, unable to contain his frustration any longer. "Toji doesn't belong in this family anymore! Why do you keep talking about him? Father, you forced him to leave earlier this year, citing his threat to our family and company's reputation."
"You're the one to talk!" Naobito shot back. "At least Toji has the brain that you utterly lack." Before the younger man could react, the Chairman had already turned on his heel. "I have made my decision."
His decision?
A confused Naoya watched his father head for the exit.
"Wait, Father...!"
"Enough!" The infuriated man raised a hand right as he neared the door, a warning for him to not speak further. "Our discussion has concluded. Effective immediately, Toji Fushiguro has been re-instated as the Zenin Heir and CEO."
Instantly, Naoya slumped forward in disbelief.
Even as the older man disappeared, the room appeared to spin dangerously. Toji Fushiguro...re-instated? As the heir and CEO?
Naobito Zenin could never make up his mind, now could he? In Naoya's head, this must be some cruel joke.
Ever since he comprehended his ability to bend fate to his will, he had promised himself to fight tooth and nail to defend the (very rightful!) position that he worked hard to earn. He had disposed of his cousin through slander, he had to put up with shitty corporate politics, and, hell, he had to even marry you!
Some may label Naoya's current negative publicity as irredeemable, but he held hope the situation would normalize once the steam blew over.
With these thoughts in mind, Naoya regained his balance and rushed out as well. "Father!"
However, by the time he reached beyond the doors, Naobito Zenin was no longer there. Even his secretary could not be found as, instead, two imposing figures stood by the desk where his assistant should be. Naoya didn't recognize them. The men were tall and well-built, their muscled arms and thighs visible despite the fabric that covered their tattooed skin.
"Nice to meet you," one started after the long silence. "I am Eso and this is my younger brother Kechizu."
A stumped Naoya frowned.
"May...I help you?"
"No," the other answered nonchalantly, "because we are here to knock you out."
"Wha—"
And Naoya's vision went dark.

end notes: Note that Eso and Kechizu are Choso's younger brothers in JJK. (Both are not completely human in canonverse, but we shall suspend beliefs.) Also, I cannot explain the satisfaction as I wrote about Naoya and his mistress finally getting wrecked! Talk about justice being served! There were many ways these scenes could have played out, but I strategically chose Tsumiki and Naobito as the agents in the discussions. Freed from corporate America handcuffs, I plan to post again soon. Love you all!

How did wormwife and worm ex-wife fall in love?
Picture this: I’m in college, ~10 years ago. Creative fiction class. I only need the junior level writing credit for my business degree, but I’d always had a passion for the arts. Would have pursued them if it wasn’t for family pressure.
I’m sitting towards the back of class, obviously nervous, when in walks this adorable mousy girl. She got curly brown hair, huge circular glasses, and a button nose.
I was enamored instantly. As the semester went on, though, my crush grew stronger when I heard her talk with such feverish passion about her writing. She had such lofty ambitions, plans for huge sweeping speculative fiction epics, and an eye for detail like I’d never seen.
It took me till the end of the semester to ask her out. We were married three months after graduation.
I knew her writing wouldn’t pull much money, but I was fine being the powerful business wife while she was more of a homebody. I was just happy to support her. I’d come home to find the dining table strewn with sticky notes, each one an intricate plot point with innumerable connections within the sea of other notes.
I’d always encourage her to get started, to just write, but she always refused. She wanted to do more research, first.
Days spent researching turned into weeks turned into months turned into years. Our bookshelves, once only holding space for the most venerated of classics, quickly overflowed with the latest of YA slop. So much space dedicated to so many multiple-book series, each more redundant than the last.
She was convinced, though, that eventually she’d find the end-all-be all perfect inspiration. I suppose my continued faith in her was my folly, ultimately.
The pandemic was the beginning of the end. she got obsessed with a comic about being stuck at home, or something. I guess it was fitting, with the lockdowns. To be honest, I was hardly paying attention at that point.
The first big warning sign was when I caught her in a bathtub full of sharpies. She had the perfect cosplay idea, she said. She needed my help, she said. I remember the feverish look in her eyes. The way it seemed the passion I fell in love with all those years ago had perverted itself into something twisted and unnatural.
I was able to slip a Xanax into some weird soda she was obsessed with, and she forgot all about it when she woke up.
Eventually she got over that obsession, though. As for her next? Well. You already know how that went, don’t you?

A Night Like Any Other... (Mammon/Reader)
Summary: Just a NORMAL phone call with Mammon. NOTHING SUSPICIOUS AT ALL.
Notes: HI! BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH SOME ANGST THAT I ORIGINALLY POSTED ON ARCHIVE!
TRIGGER WARNINGS: ANGST, DEATH, SHARP OBJECT, SUFFERING
Please don’t read if any of these dark topics will make you uncomfy!!!!
20%
Mammon cradled his DDD between his ear and shoulder, ranting about the usual inconveniences: Lucifer, the failure of his latest money-laundering scheme, Levi asking him for that money back. The usual stuff. As he spoke, he paced around his room. He always did that when he got worked up, though his hands were still busy shredding up the credit card bill he swiped from the mail pile earlier that morning. No one had to know about it.
You listened to him talk, occasionally adding in “Mhmm’s” and “Wow’s” to let him know you were still listening. He wasn’t the only one who had an eventful day, that was for sure. But you would much rather listen to Mammon talk about his day than prattle on about your minor human problems.
“Where are ya, anyways? Ain’t it gettin’ a bit late? Humans have no business out past-- what time is it?” There was a brief pause on the line before Mammon exclaimed: “Out past 7:00 PM!”
You knew he was exaggerating the latter portion for effect. You replied with a soft hum.
“Who knows? You’ll find out eventually.”
“You’d better hurry up! As your first, I demand you come home. THE Great Mammon won’t tolerate any late humans.”
15%
“Yes sir,” you were grinning ear to ear, “I’ll make sure to be there with a full report.”
“Good, good!”
You checked the time: 7:34 PM. You knew Mammon was in one of his moods, but he was right. Any later than this, and you would be breaking Lucifer’s Human Curfew.
Mammon put you on speaker phone as he began scooping the shredded credit card bill into the trash can. Lucifer was never going to find out about his bills this time! He should really start sorting through everyone’s mail more often. Not only did he find a few expensive packages from Asmo, but he also found a new, surefire way for Lucifer to never discover his rogue spending habits! Two birds with one stone!
On the other end of the line, you could hear Asmo shouting something in the background. Something about missing packages that were on the table earlier that day.
“I already sold ‘em!”
“You’re literally the worst, Mammon! Ugh! I’m telling Lucifer about this!”
“Ah, no! They’re right here!”
Shuffling. Boxes being knocked over. You heard the pair exchange something more before the sound of Mammon’s door slamming crackled through the receiver.
“Sorry about that, (Y/N). Had to take care of some super official business there.” Mammon wasn’t sure what you’d heard, but either way he would play it off as something he had already foreseen. Or something that wasn’t a big deal-- something you should just delete from your memory, (lest Lucifer have a 1% higher chance of finding out that he really did take Asmo’s packages from the counter along with his own overdue bill notes).
“You’re something else, you know that?” Your voice was soft, unusually so.
“Don’t know what you mean!” Mammon took you off of the speakerphone immediately; no one else would get to hear those sweet words. He felt a satisfying twinge of greed in knowing that only he could hear your voice at the moment.

“Oh yeah, that reminds me! There’s this, uh, arcade place! Usually that kind of stuff is Levi’s thing, but they have crane machines with cash prizes! Like, boxes with Grimm inside of them!” Mammon’s excitement was definitely leaking through the phone.
“Are you sure?” It seemed a bit implausible, but so did a Vampire Bat Sandwich (one of Beel’s favorites).
“Heck yeah, I’m sure! Let’s go there tomorrow after class!”
You felt a twinge of guilt.
“Yeah, let’s.” Your words came out a bit flat; you had intended to keep them excited and lively, like the rest of the conversation. But... It was getting harder and harder to hide it when Mammon kept talking about the future.
“Of course we have to go for a drive in one of my babies as well. We’ll have the whole afternoon to ourselves!”
“I... I actually might be busy tomorrow,” you mumbled.
“Oh, okay. Day after tomorrow then?”
“I think I have something due...”
“Next weekend? Don’t tell me ya have more plans!”
“I...”
The clouds released drizzly droplets, and without a moment’s notice the drizzle exploded into a full on rainstorm. Days like these were typically your favorite, but not when you were in the water.
5%
You decided to change the subject. “If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?”
“What kind of question is that?” Mammon still pondered the question, though. “Dunno! Probably one of those fancy casinos they have up in the human realm.”
“Sounds like you.” Your giggle hurt, but you were smiling regardless. Mammon was definitely an open book. Your favorite novel.
“What’s that s’posed to mean?” Mammon’s voice flared on the other end, but you could tell it was the usual banter; he wasn’t really mad. His expressiveness was one of his most endearing qualities, even if it did manage to get him into trouble a lot.
You didn’t realize you were spacing out until Mammon snapped you back into reality.
“Man, I hate it when phone calls get all quiet...”
“Oh, sorry.”
“What? No, just forget it.” Apparently, Mammon wasn’t supposed to say that out loud, or so you assumed. At this point, you simply assumed that both of you drank a tall glass of Dumb Bitch Juice™ for breakfast this morning. “Ya weren’t supposed to hear that.”
“It’s fine,” you reassured him, “hey, Mammon?”
“Yeah?”
You hesitated to say those desperate words. But by now, it was probably far too late. There would be no going back after, right? Might as well not bother. It wouldn’t matter in the long run, anyways. Not after tonight.
“Um... Nevermind.” You decided to hold your tongue after all.
1%
You really wished you had charged your phone before leaving the house this morning. Again, another mistake in the clusterfuck of today. But then again, maybe this was for the better. Your mind was starting to grow hazy, and soaked strands of hair caked your face from the rainfall.
“Hey, Mammon,” you swallowed thickly, trying to shove down the rising lump in your throat, “I have to go. My phone is gonna die.”
“Oh, okay! See you at home, Human!”
In one last desperate attempt to soothe yourself from the anxieties creeping up the back of your neck, you called out to him before he could end the call.
“Say my name, at least.”
“Fine, fine. See you back at home, (Y/N).”
0%
Finally, you could let go. No more fake appearances. No more holding it all together. You sobbed loudly, your cheek pressed against the cold, wet asphalt of the alleyway you had collapsed in. Well, less of “collapsed,” and more like “stabbed”.
Dumb Bitch Juice™, you dumb whore. Always making you act recklessly. But at least Mammon would get one more peaceful night, oblivious to the horrors you got yourself into. You at least wanted to hear his voice one last time-- Maybe that was selfish of you. Maybe not. All you knew was that deep down, you were terrified of losing him. And that you loved him to death. Literally.
Your thoughts, in a probable attempt to escape the pain of the knife wedged in your torso, (a souvenir from a demon who really didn’t seem to like humans) shifted their weight towards what could have been.
His warm hands laced within yours. That weird arcade date he wanted to take you on. Moving out of the House of Lamentation and into your own place. Marriage. Maybe even a weird Devildom dog? The thoughts were laughable, but oddly comforting at the same time.
You let your phone slide from your grip, loosened. There was no use for a phone with no owner.
Those images, vivid in your imagination, were so close, almost tangible. But Mammon didn’t even know how you felt about him. He was oblivious and obvious all the same, but you loved that about him. You loved him. You loved him so much. But your time with him was over.
There would be another exchange student. The brothers would fawn over them just as they had you, and you would become a distant, painful memory like Lilith. They would move on.
Mammon would move on. He would find someone else. You were just one slim chapter in his book of life. One small, insignificant chapter. A collection of nerves and sentences that couldn’t even tell him how you felt.

jjk did something weird to my brain like i usually dislike the brawny harsh dude and love insane characters and love white hair characters but both geto and gojo are so unappealing and flavourless as an insane white haired duo?? like gojo has zero personality or character development and is actually quite delusional about his goals; there’s like zero infrastructure for his plans to reform jujutsu society so the revolutionary lens is quite broken lol despite him being painted as both greatest powered and brained (since brain power and mathematics is necessary to operate his cursed technique) like this is why we have STEM specific ethics courses and required arts credits in university… also geto being painted as ‘snapping and insane’ does not have the dramatic flare and that’s because him ‘snapping’ was seeing violence and instead of ‘how can i eradicate oppression and educate the masses’ he was like ‘i am going to become a fascist’ and did nothing for 10 years… if yuta and rika had not appeared he would’ve just lived his life as a wealthy cult leader extorted money and stuff (this is also direct commentary on the fascist cults in japan that shinzo abe was shot over btw! adding this note because it’s been written about recently). plus no one would’ve stopped him because it didn’t interfere w sorcery work. we already know that jujutsu society and killing curses is not based on any ethical system, but rather maintaining self importance and scarcity w cursed energy. that is why there is a barrier around japan, that is also why their is an archaic power hierarchy centred around blood lineage.
like i really did not expect to like the really buff dude but he is just SO fun. and normally i don’t like the quiet girl characters but gege has highlighted miwa’s strength so well and gave her material stakes (class + family) plus she is severely aware that she is not powerful.. i just love the kyoto students idk <333 like i also dislike most blonde characters for their crimes of resembling europeans (naruto is the exception because he is very clearly diaspora/Indigenous coded in his writing and also a victim/brainwashed by the imperial state) but i just love yuki and momo so much. gege should write a spin off abou the kyoto students and hire me to draw it <333

RUTH WILSON. SHE/HER / have you ever heard of 911 by lady gaga, well, it describes CLAIRE BAUDELAIRE MCCLAIN to a tee! the forty year old, and CONDUCTOR / COMPOSER / PRODUCER (OWNER OF MCCLAIN STUDIOS) was spotted browsing through the stalls at portobello road market last sunday, do you know them? would you say she is more ostentatious or more DEDICATED instead? anyway, they remind me of black roll neck sweater paired with a gold medallion necklace, discarded and empty vintage wine bottles, being the epitome of ardour when working only for fatigue and irritability are welcomed just moments after, the feeling of being overwhelmed and turning off the mobile phone when someone calls more than twice yet feeling hurt when your own calls aren’t picked up, maybe you’ll bump into them soon!
tws: infertility, infidelity, divorce, anxiety, panic attack, anxiety
early life:
claire was actually born in york, yorkshire (but lies that she’s a southerner and that’s what’s on her wiki page!). she’s the eldest of four siblings but the middle child always stepped up and outperformed her in every single way. her mother was a music teacher and her father a chemist. although she was inspired by music, she never decided to take up a music hobby like her siblings and was part of a swimming club instead.
claire had always been conscientious. a student, she’d get easily upset if she did anything wrong and would want to avoid any repercussion from it, even if it was as simple as a note being jotted down to say she’d forgotten one of her workbooks, she’d cry about it.
at school, she was the person who would sing in front of her peers in assembly and be bullied by people because of it. she had always been in a choir and had a good voice but children were cruel and that knocked her confidence massively.
she was around 10 when she decided she wanted to take up some music classes, however, the only one available was in choral conducting. she went from being in the choir to conducting it and she preferred her back to the audience.
conducted her first orchestra when she was 12. was a big of a child prodigy in that respect and went to study in zurich. there was a sense of being a phony considering she'd never played an instrument herself but she'd frequently leave that part out. she understood them through analysis and theory - that was impressive so why was she so embarrassed by it?
there was always an interest in composition, the application of what she considered to be truth.
career:
it was her 'messing around’ in a band that would lead her become a world-renowned composer, with a few oscars and grammys below her belt. it was the perfect amount of being seen but not swarmed as if she were famous and she had got lucky on that front. a very private person, there was only so many red carpet walks she would do.
when it comes to her profession, claire is an obsessive person and does let it consume her from time to time. it does worry her parents but she’s on a lot of money ( ~ £2m per score and she now pays for her parents’ retirement and holiday home so everything must be going great, right? not only would she work her way up to chief conductor for the bbc symphony orchestra, claire would also continue her work as a composer. she's obsessed with music and does find it difficult to switch off.
think of her discography as that of someone like hans zimmer, it’s that style and she can be both impactful and experimental, electronic along with traditional orchestra.
she has also got disney composing and conducting credits for various scores and has been involved in the soundtrack recording of various blockbusters.
earns a couple million upfront for her scores and then any royalties on top of that.
personal life / break down of her marriage:
claire met her now ex-husband when she first moved to london and assumed her role four years ago. she was renting out a small apartment, one that she could easily afford but some of the larger apartments didn’t give her such flexibility when it came to short-term rent. a successful investor, he was incredibly charming. they had a lot to talk about and seemed to appreciate each other’s pace. they were married within the year.
while he seemed to be smitten by her, his parents and friends seemed to be a little harder. she wasn’t from upper-class society (though she had kept her fake london accent when she moved over from london) and although she could hold her own, she was different. she was polite as she had run with these types of crowds, for years, in her line of work but it was never something she was truly happy with.
problems started to arise when he wanted children. claire wasn’t opposed to it and they did try but there were issues, more so on her side. she knew that he definitely felt pressure from his family to carry on the legacy and that pressure was also taken on by claire.
they started the ivf process and it made her feel terrible. while her sick days didn’t increase, the woman didn’t look well throughout it. a couple of months in, she collapsed on the street and was hospitalised.
she had reached her limit. she was in pain and she chose to stop the treatment. her husband was crushed by it and did attempt to change her mind but it didn’t work. the woman was afraid that he’d leave her seen as having a child was something he wanted but he stayed.
there was an obvious rift between them after that. he did look after her, they continued as normal but then he stopped asking her more and more about her work and he seemed either flat or angry when she asked him the same. . she felt like there was something going on and she did feel guilty for it.
around eight months ago, he sat her down after work and gave her the news that he was leaving her. at first, she didn’t believe it but he was serious. he had been in a relationship for the best part of six months and she was pregnant. she tried to convince him that they could work it out but it wasn’t what he wanted.
the aftermath:
he had moved out of the penthouse (rightfully so as it was his fault) but claire's name wasn’t on it. everything felt like it was going to be taken away from her, apart from mcclain studios which she had set up, using his surname, but with only her name on companies house. he had moved in with this new woman, who was slightly younger than her and from an affluent family.
it wasn’t her finest moment when she tried to beg him to come back and after being met with hostility when he used to be the one to comfort her, she stopped trying.
everything felt like it was her fault, that she could have prevented this all from happening if she ‘pushed herself’ to give him what he had wanted. she was so confused as to why he had chosen to stay with her and go behind her back rather than just tell her then and there. unknown to claire, one of her friends found out and said if he didn’t tell her, they would.
anxiousness seemed to follow her wherever she went. she kept the divorce a secret from everyone, scared of being one of those statistics and not wanting to be the brunt of gossip. she hadn’t even told her parents and that caused issues when he took it upon himself to ring them and when they were talking like they were still together, he broke the news. this has caused a lot of contention with her folks back in england.
one morning, claire experienced a panic attack on the subway. someone realised what was happening and attended to her before getting her off at the next stop. it was them who called her work and explained the situation.
she took a few days off her more than busy schedule (distracted herself by perhaps taking on too many projects) but then went back like nothing had happened. the same happened again and it was at that point, she contacted a professional and is currently in therapy.
the woman seemed to completely disappear from society as she isolated herself. three years ago she had won a grammy, the year after than an oscar - what on earth had happened to her life? the divorce was done, she had been given the penthouse in south london, a decision she didn’t quite know the meaning of, and then she was preoccupied with selling it. she’s not managed to find a buyer yet but is renting it out as she lives in nottinghill, closer to her friends.
claire is currently on a leave of absence from her role at the bbc symphony orchestra after she collapsed during a performance.
she's unsure if they'll renew her contract. they've given her no indication that they don't want her back but she feels her professionalism has slipped with her personal issues and she never wanted that to be the case. claire is respected for her crafts and the role that she has but at what cost?
the other bits:
a few months ago, she graced the red carpet again after composing the soundtrack for a hit blockbuster and awaits nominations for that, almost like nothing happened... yet again...
claire really hates going on trains due to her recent experience with them so won’t take them. instead, she gets the bus as she finds it relaxing??? doesn’t want to be that person booking taxis every day or with a private driver. (let’s stop this rich lady taking the bus, yeah?)
her divorce is not yet public but anyone with eyes can see something’s happened there.
she has over 9 million subscribers on spotify.
always playing around with her work, even when she’s not working. whether it be on a laptop or phone. currently remixing her work into club tracks and feels like the urge to dj is her mid-life crisis.
listens to heavy metal/heavy rock and watches documentaries, loves to hate horror.
if she hears her breakout song (her first song that won an award) she cries as it reminds her of a very together part of her life and she feels like things have totally changed.
keeps her awards locked in a safe and not on display.
there will probs be more but this is all i can think of at this moment in time.

I hate doing this but I am a black college student and I am required to have this textbook but I can't afford it. It has the access code I need for my class and without it I'll be dropped and I've been trying to get into this course for two years now. The textbook costs about 120$ and I am pretty broke. If anyone wants to send me some tips it would be extremely appreciated. I'm hoping Tumblr doesn't suppress this.
Ko-Fi: https://href.li/?https://ko-fi.com/rhythmloid
Any amount would help! I know it's a bit pitiful to ask for help getting a textbook but for me, it's extremely important, I will absolutely fall behind if I don't complete this course.

I wanted to make a small post saying it’s ok to alter brand pieces so they fit you better! For plus size Lolita’s especially, you purchased the piece with your money so you can do as you see fit! If you adore that angelic pretty dress or btssb dress don’t be afraid to find someone to professionally alter your dress! If you have the ability, alter it yourself! You deserve to feel comfortable and to not limit yourself to a few prints. It may cost extra and take extra time but you deserve to wear your dream prints and deserve to have something that fits in your wardrobe!!! If you have the opportunity take it!!!

My #1 post of 2022
Some of my favorite Lolita YouTubers~
Tumblr media
Lolita YouTubers need some love, a TON of accounts only have a couple thousand if even that. I think that we should really start watching more lolita YouTuber channels and supporting others in the community, especially when they give advice or their own perspective as a member of the fashion! So here’s a list of some of my favorites
Sea Princess Selkie
CandyCarnival
MagicalGirlMe/Callista
Merry Moons
PinkFakeFlowers
Dodo the Extinct
Pearlie Cute
Sweet Bunny Blushes
Asami Moon
Miya No
Eternallyenchanted
Diamond the Storm
Juno the Wunder
All of the people I have listed have under 9k subs and some barely have 1K. All of them have great content and it’s a pretty diverse community out there! Some have switched some content over to other styles of fashion or aren’t mega active but many of their older videos talking about lolita fashion are still informative and important!

Olive Cameron reflects on her husband's relationship with money, books, and letters.
Jack liked to read. He did it way more than I did. He always had 10 or so books from the library sitting on the table, and a hand scribbled list on his table of what he wanted next. Jack hated his handwriting, which was large and heavy handed, so any note he took that he worried that anyone else would see, he'd write as small as possible. It was completely illegible.
Jack read a lot, but I suspect he didn't understand much of what he was reading. He was trying to brute force himself into understanding it. Which may have worked if he had even a few more years of education under his belt, but he refused to ask for help. Jack, in his 30s too well known to try to seek adult education, had spent his young adulthood too busy dancing for night classes. It was a rare point of real embarrassment for him. He felt as if everyone around him knew, and that they were judging him harshly for it. He coped by living through memory, only writing things down if he needed to, and if questioned about this habit would simply portray it as an element of his genius.
“Writing just slows me down.” He'd hiss at Peter Burnett, his lover, friend, and oft stage manager of his shows.
Jack did write letters to his family, though. Once a month he'd send a check to his parents and a check to his younger sister, alongside a bright, happy little letter about his life. These letters rarely got responses but the checks were, of course, always cashed.
Jack was perhaps even more self conscious about his math skills than his writing. It was a right of passage among his gaggle of friends and groupies that he'd eventually make you take a look at his taxes. He was convinced that he was messing them up but refused to hire someone to do it, so instead he'd hand these forms over to you and say, as if he already knew the answer, “don’t these look right?”
Jeff loved math and prior to Jack and I's marriage, was gladly helping Jack with his finances. Jack was particularly flustered by monthly budgeting. He struggled with saving money as any left over at the end of the month (which varied greatly on how bad his coke and pills habit was) would be sent to his family in a second check. They didn't ask for this, of course, but Jack felt obligated to do it. Jeff broke everything down into a nice monthly budget and explained it all in simple, friendly language, because that's just who Jeff was.
I took over this responsibility when I married Jack, obviously. The financial element of our marriage was a big one, and while Jack definitely had money, he also had debt and a barrage of questionable choices. Kissing Me Quickly, and finally listening to Jack’s agent and getting him someone to handle his taxes, fixed most of those problems.
I'd gotten a pretty bad deal as a first time performer for Kissing Me Quickly’s Broadway production. I made as little as possible for as much work as possible. Jack was typically unsympathetic to the physical and economic turmoil of his dancers, but upon marrying me he immediately forced a renegotiation. Jack was one hell of a negotiator when he wanted to be. Jack had no limits and it was impossible to call his bluff. Jack would, and make it clear that he would, do absolutely anything to get what he wanted. It was a miracle that Jack never threatened to kill himself at the negotiation table, but he did once hire people off the street to picket on my behalf. Jack enjoyed the fight even more than he enjoyed the fruits.
Jack and I negotiated together for later productions. For the London, Tokyo, and First national tour, I received assistant choreographer credit. For the second national tour and licensing, during which Jack was hospitalized, I fought to get co-creator credit right next to him.
Jack’s finances weren't all terrible. He owned his apartment, though I couldn't tell if he knew that. He had a lease on his dance studio. This lease was particularly nutso. The space had been Mary Corey’s and the building it was in was owned by her husband. Jack hated Robert Corey, and unlike most the people Jack hated, he was justified in doing so.
But Robert Corey was trying to extend the olive branch in the studio agreement. I think he genuinely wanted Jack around. Jack paid $1 a year for the space, in trade, all Jack had to do, all that he needed to do to keep this large, well maintained, studio that Jack had practically (and sometimes literally) grown up in, was donate 90 minutes of his time, per month, to the Corey Foundation, one floor above. All Robert asked of Jack was that he taught one 90 minute dance class, of his choice, to a group of disenfranchised New York highschool students per month. Just one.
Jack, perhaps because he hated Robert, perhaps because thinking about Mary made him guilty and nervous, or perhaps (most likely) because he didn't like being told what to do, refused it. He'd been using any excuse possible every single month for the 4 years he'd had the space, till Robert changed the locks and put a sign on the door reading, “You know what you have to do, Jack.”
Of course Jack did! He sent me to teach it instead. Robert showed up, a frail 60 year old man hovering in the back of the room, and we grabbed lunch afterwards. He thanked me for my time, especially as I had taken off from Kissing to do it but said that he asked for Jack, not me, and that he still intended to terminate the lease.
I adjusted in my seat and frowned at Robert. The lease agreement that Jack had signed was utterly insane, certainly because Jack didn't understand it, with the stipulation that if the lease ended early for any reason, that Jack would be on the hook for market-rate back rent. The Coreys had taken most of Jack's wages as a child under their guardianship, and I suspect Robert Corey loved the idea of having some level of financial control over the only one of his late wife's proteges who spoke positively of her.
“Can I tell you a secret?” I said to Robert. I confessed to him that Jack and I had gotten married, something that no one at the time but our witnesses knew, and that as his wife, I believed firstly that I should be allowed to help fulfill his obligations under the lease and secondly that the economic ramifications of the back rent would financially cripple our “hopefully soon-to-be growing” family. But I said it nicer, dabbing my eyes with the napkin, quivering my voice just a little bit. I tried to seem just so lost and confused, like I was madly in love with Jack and completely unaware of the chaos that defined his life.
Nervously, Robert Corey conceded a bit. He seemed so unsettled, more than I intended. He agreed that I could do the monthly classes, but asked me to try my hardest to convince Jack to do at least one a year. I agreed and he handed me the new keys, and paid for lunch.
A few days later he sent a gift to us, a set of ugly floral china. “To Mr. And Mrs. Ainsworth.” Jack was upset that I'd told him, but happy he didn't have to get rid of the studio.

IRS scrambles to reverse dire statistics on plunging audits for millionaires, soaring reviews for Black Americans
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
May 3, 2024 at 7:40 AM EDT
Daniel Werfel
IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel
The IRS said Thursday that it has taken steps to address a wide disparity in audit rates between Black taxpayers and others filers, and is more closely examining the returns of larger numbers of wealthy people and major companies.
“We are overhauling compliance efforts to advance our commitment to fair, equitable, and effective tax administration and hold ourselves accountable to taxpayers we serve,” according to an annual update from the agency.
A study from January 2023 involving university researchers and the Treasury Department found that IRS data-driven algorithms selected Black taxpayers for auditing at up to 4.7 times the rate of non-Black taxpayers. The study said the IRS disproportionately audited people who claim the Earned Income Tax Credit, which is aimed at low- to moderate-income workers and families: While Black taxpayers accounted for 21% of the claims for that break, they were the focus of 43% of the audits concerning the credit.
“We have taken swift initial action to dramatically reduce the number of those audits. We have also made changes to the selection criteria for those audits,” IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel said.
Werfel, who was sworn in a little more than a year ago, has testified before Congress about the issue and last September he wrote to the Senate Finance Committee that the IRS would make changes.
The discriminatory audits, he told reporters, “degrade trust in our tax system.”
Werfel and the IRS have tried over the past year to show how money from the Inflation Reduction Act, President Joe Biden’s big climate, health and tax law, has helped to modernize the agency and improve taxpayer services, and that people making less than $400,000 per year would not be subject to more audits due to the new funding.
Noting the promise to keep audit rates for people making $400,000 per year and less at 2018 levels, he said on Thursday that “we haven’t in any way exceeded that rate.”
He added: “There is no new wave of audits coming for middle and low income” taxpayers — “that is not in our plans in any way shape or form.”
The IRS is focusing the next year on using the funding boost to conduct higher rates of audits on suspected wealthy tax cheats after having collected hundreds of millions of back taxes this year.
Ensuring that people pay their taxes is one of the tax collection agency’s biggest challenges. The audit rate of millionaires fell by more than 70% from 2010 to 2019 and the rate on large corporations dropped by more than 50%.
The IRS plans to raise audit rates on companies with assets above $250 million to 22.6% in 2026, from an 8.8% rate in the tax year 2019. It also plans to increase audit rates by tenfold on large complex partnerships with assets over $10 million."
“While the IRS has accomplished a lot so far with IRA funding,” he said, “we need to do much more to make improvements and transform the IRS for the benefit of taxpayers.”
What a trip. So, under Barack Obama, the wealth class and corporations saw their IRS audits drop, cheating the country out of needed revenue and hoarding enough cash to go after Americans, even more.

I've been trying to go over games I've played recently in more detail lately, but the problem with this is that the first up is the first I played: Unicorn Overlord. And it is. Very difficult to give a full like..."review" of the expereince, so I haven't been able to generate anything. To get past this, time to just kinda ramble about general impressions.
This is one of the best games I've played in a while.
It's very different from what I'm used to, but I think that just means I've landed on a new type of game I can attach to. The last time this happened was...I think the Atelier games, back with Rorona. I'm pretty sure that came after Etrian Odyssey. It's a great feeling to pick something up almost on a whim and just get sucked into such a strong experience.
Etrian Odyssey bears mentioning, because much like EO, the draw here is strictly gameplay. Story and characters are all serviceable but unexceptional. I'd say the bulk of my criticisms lie in the general story and gameplay approach, but it's not a game trying to wow you on that front. You're playing the game to play a game, and god do I appreciate something knowing its priorities like that.
The best aspect is something I anticipate coming up a lot today: pace. Unicorn Overlord has a fantastic pace of gameplay. It's the kind of experience where I can sink in like 5 hours and feel like I've been playing maybe one. It just goes. Map timers are registered as like 1-5 minutes, but so much time goes into assessing where your units deploy and how things are set up, and while it sounds very micromanagement focused, it is engaging to set up your tactics in a way that works, and assess how your squad will perform and synergize. While I imagine that comes with a caveat of "You have to like doing this kind of thing," it hits a great sweet spot.
A lot of people compare the tactics system to Final Fantasy XII's gambits. This is because, by and large, it is the same system. Initiate action under X condition. The difference is the scale. Unicorn Overlord permits up to two conditions, and they're a little more broad than some of the specifics. For instance, FF12 will give you options for every 10% marker on HP and MP, whereas UO will give you 25% intervals. FF12 will give you the ability to just know what an enemy's weakness is to sure-cast, while UO will target by more broad class categorization such as Cavalry, Flying, Scout, etc, but lacks certain conditions that would be overpowering. A big one I see people talk about is "Shielded." Like, a condition that applies if the enemy has a shield and thus a good block rate would be nice, because shield includes armor, some types of cav, and some infantry, but being able to get that granular would be exceptionally powerful.
I do think overworld exploration deserves some credit as well. You can just skip quite a few battles to keep progressing, with no actual downsides. This is nice if you're rushing to get certain characters, but I will note that I think at times it gets a bit nutty how far you can go. If you can beat a higher level fight in Elheim, you basically have free reign of the final country of Albion, including its trial area to grind levels.
Some general criticisms: I do think grinding takes away a little bit. It's not the worst, but it does make it very easy to just over-level compared to enemies and snowball from there. In particular, grinding Honor takes away some of the decision-making around when to expand squad size of how many units can promote, and money acquired also makes most decisions free. It's honestly hilarious.
When you get really granular, you find out a lot of named characters are objectively worse than hired mercenaries, because their boons are generally bad. Idealist Handmirror can fix it, but those are both rare and expensive, so it's honestly not my favorite solution. I never had much use for it anyway. I know it can boost performance, but while I didn't keep up with it, I could handle Expert just fine without changing anyone's stats.
I think some weapon-type varieties would be nice. There are very, very few magic-dealing weapons, and competition for those is fierce. Which isn't bad, I like having to make those decisions, but I wish there was a little more variety, especially for the mixed damage elven weapons. Elves use both physical and magical attack, and their weapons require boosts to both, but there are only two options in the entire game: their native elven type, and Spellsteel which is marginally stronger. None of them get access to the fun secondary effects of normal weapons, like additional skills or bonus PP/AP, which allow for more flexibility of play.
Class balance is much stronger than I would've expected, but it still has major hiccups. I'm going to point to Bastorias as the prime culprit of this. Almost none of the Bastorias beast classes are good. Werelion is only marginally better than Berserker who sucks, Werebear is a frontline damage class that is bad at every job it has, Werewolf is hilariously useless, Werefox can be spooky under very specific circumstances but holds all the failings of a Rouge with none of the interesting utility. I do like Wereowl, though even that one has some issues. It's odd, but most of the good classes are frontloaded, while later picks are...shaky.
It's small, but I do think the rite of the maiden is kinda lame. Every male is just your bro, every female is your wife, and it's like...just commit, guys. Come on.
For me, I think the single biggest thing is lack of serious postgame. This one comes up a lot too, and it is ultimately minor, but...some things just don't get enough play time to be fully fun. The angels, and especially Featherstaff, get hit with this worst. Congrats on getting your first Featherstaff! There are now 3 stages left in the entire game to beat! It just hinders things a bit? It's also not my favorite that you can't test out new squads once you've done all of that, because at that point, nothing is left at your level to really struggle against aside from Arena, which plays very differently from a proper map. Reddit's been doing a community tier list, and I haven't participated much because truthfully, I don't think I have a great sense for combinations because once I've beaten the game, I don't feel able to test things out anymore, and this is a LONG game I don't fully feel like playing though again right away. I do have other games to get to sometimes.
That said, when your biggest complaints are "I wish there was more of it" and "some of it's really tricky to use and requires a deft hand to figure out," you're doing something right. Excellent game. I may wind up replaying it again soon already, because it is just that good.

A Very Bad Good Girl x Rewind
Cinema is said to be a reflection of one's nation and its people. I say, any decent film is also a Mirror of Erised that's either too crass or too classy.
One of the reasons why I took up communication research is to deepen my roots on how frameworks are engineered and optimized to fit my current stance. It's not about the shiny badge of UPDi, it's just me being perpetually curious.
One of the things I did over the long holiday break is to randomly check content as I've been too out of touch. Of course, I'd definitely choose Ooku: The Inner Chambers over A Very Good Girl, however, I'd need to immerse myself in local mainstream films, because, one of my very few GCs is poppin' rainbows about an upcoming debrief. Kidding aside, it's my attempt to immerse in the perspective of my "audience of one" when it comes to work. Yes, work. More so, films are very easy access passes to what the pulse of the nation is, even when I'd have to yawn and laugh dryly so many times while at it.
In line with new stories for 2024, let me share my thoughts and feelings about A Very Good Girl. Alert: Spoilers incoming; however, I'd list down the stuff I gathered instead of lambasting and praising it straight up.
1 The male gaze is currently severely butchered but it's still a butch or femme butch scene, after all. Sorry, not sorry. I'd like to see an unapologetic ultra femme era of films in my lifetime, to be honest.
2 Women in films are on their way to find their safe space without sacrificing a safe space for all. Being immersed in feminism and postmodernism, the truth is that you can't advocate for safe space if you aim to silence the males in any social setting. As a reformed radical feminist, I'm still learning this ground. It's not easy, but it's for the greater good.
3 This film talks about how this country is still ruled by familial ties and feudalism.
4 Production and tiny details make or break the story even when your audience of one is but a passerby or a stranger.
5 While the film tackles the power struggle of females, the subtext I'm getting is that it's a class act involving the Philippines and her people. LOL. Money, fame and power are means to make you appear convenient; but, in reality, everything has a floor and a ceiling you can't escape nor evade. The poor and middle class clamor for these three pillars, however, it's all about being good even when you and the rest of universe make really, really bad choices each time.
Side Note: Sana lang, 'wag masyadong antagonized ang rich and poor masyado. 'Di naman kasalanan ng mahirap na mahirap sila in the same manner na 'di naman kasalanan ng mayaman na mayaman sila, right? And I think that this film has made a decent commentary about this topic.
6 As the media is silenced, harassed and policed with literal and figurative machineries, films are more experimental and more vibrant and dull, all together.
7 Scripts and deliveries do not exactly co-exist; but, I'd like to believe that we're probably off to better heights.
8 The agenda setting and unmuting the muted groups may be lost in translation because the dresses and the accessories seem to take the center stage. I know this is an attempt to put forward a more presentable cake to be eaten by the dogs and the underdogs, however, there should always be context so that the audience masticates is better.
9 Research as Paulo Coelho shares in one of his books is super duper integral to any literary work. I also believe that this is what's lacking in most films in the Philippines. 10 After the credits roll, what matters most is the lesson that the audience of one accepts or rejects. Period. Now, the question is: How deep did the film really go?
11 Not all women are meant to be mothers. But any woman can be a mother, so as long as there is a child who's willing or unwilling to be mothered.
12 Being a child is not bound by age, folio or social class. Being a child may be an adult's most "adulting" thing to down.
13 At times, women take too much heat in any kitchen. Asking for help especially when she can't cook is the cross in which women crucify themselves. This bit hits home a little too much, but hey, that's the truth, the hard pill I am downing, currently.
14 This film seems to be an attempt to shed light on dramatic and tragic-comedic existentialism. OPAK. Ako lang naman 'to since bias ko 'yan e.
Is there such a thing as a signature Filipino film style? This is something that I've been searching for since my biases are European or Japanese films. It's actually tough to answer a yes, but saying no seems tougher. There are a good number of films like Sakada, Serbis, Cuchera, Ekstra, Pamilya Ordinaryo, Nerseri, Posas, Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros, Engkwentro, Moral, Anak, That Thing Called Tadhana and Muli that have a strong sense of what the Filipinos are made of. In the same manner, these films seem to remind me of foreign films at some level. I try my best not to compare, however, I guess that I'd have to be more forgiving in my next viewings.
More so, regional films are yet to be highlighted as I know so well that our culture beyond Manila is so rich, pure and worth the budget. As one of Anthony Bourdain's visits to PH says it, we are not even regional; we're archipelagic. I'd like to witness a Philippine cinema scene where there's a vibe of pride about the mundane. I'd like to move beyond fake resiliency, sex sells, more sex sells more even when the lighting and editing is really trashy. I'm hoping to see our own theater arts mold our film dreams, hopes, and fears.
---
I'd also like to share that dad watched Rewind and shared the whole story with me this morning. I told him that before he starts, I am on the verge of telling him to skip it the movie and his sharing, because it's gonna be a blood bath; however, this is me, letting him be.
Of course, he didn't bother checking the trailer and the reviews. And so, he gave a blow by blow account of this movie's story. In between bashing and laughing with him, he told me that he's been a very bad dad, all this time. He even enumerated the missed attendances because he was "too busy" with work that's actually manageable. He further confessed that he could have been more present in our lives when we were growing up instead of growling like a beast even at our slightest hiccups. He shared that he'd be more than willing to go back in time to make bawi for his misgivings. I flatly told him that he's not giving... giving up, now and until his forever ends, eventually.
It felt as though he's on his Walk of Shame era with a dog cone and butt naked as he goes around the UPDi Ikot and Toki route. But, I tried my best not to get too bored and tuned in. His sharing lasted for almost 45 minutes, I think.
I chuckled and told him several times that it's his first time to be a dad, a parent; so, naturally, things are always on beta test mode. He told me that if he could rewind our past, he could have chosen to give up his dear life for mom to live longer. He meant what he said. This broke my hypothalamus in the same manner that it gave me a piece of peace that I'm aiming at.
I joked him: Dad, 'di ka naman magso-sorry 'di ba? He said: Alam mo naman tatay mo, iiyak, pero 'di magso-sorry. Me: Sus. OK.
I breathed deeply and told him that everything happens for a reason and that I'd like him to be with me for a long while, perhaps, longer than my original ask. I'd like him to let go of the past and should we talk about the good, the bad, the pretty and the ugly, may those be parts of healthy kwentuhans and batuhans. I'm also sure that this is no longer about mother dragon's smirk alone. This time around, it's about me and him and my brother making it together and emerging better.
Ah, January 3, you're something weird, wonky and wonderful! Perhaps, one of the things I'd see in the Mirror of Erised is dad and I biking around Japan for two straight weeks. LOL. Huy, tigil mo na 'yan, back to regular programming ka na in a few hours. Let's go!

introduction.
welcome! this is my first ever post.
this blog is meant to be an archive of different self-improvement sources i use, sorted into categories for easy access. i will (most likely) not be creating any of the content i post here, but i will make sure to give credit to every single creator and take good care of mentioning every source.
becoming you's philosophy
self-improvement is a hoax, they say. we never needed self-improvement before, why would we start needing it now? this blog uses 'self-improvement' for easy discovery of these sources, as that is the word a lot of people looking to feel better about themselves use. however, 'self-improvement' here could be more accurately defined as a mix of 'self-discovery' and 'self love'. in my thoughts, everyone is born whole. we simply stray away from who we are because of external forces like society, traditions, gender roles, the expectations of others and different norms that surround us. these sources collected from all across the internet (and possibly elsewhere) are here so you don't have to do (a lot of) research yourself, and can simply pick and choose what area of your life you want to focus on. it's all here.
how to use this blog
rome wasn't built in a day, and nobody learns who they truly are overnight. personally, i recommend focusing on one thing at a time, and doing it well. you have your whole life to be yourself, so why rush it?
personal note from the blogkeeper
first and foremost, thank you for being here. you've joined me (and possibly others too) on this journey of looking for the person you really are. self-improvement, self love and the lot are a passion of mine and now i have an outlet for it where someone else can benefit off of my research, too. i'll try to include many different areas of life, like personality, education, work, lifestyle, exercise, money, looks and other subjects you would want to handle better. not everything might be for you and not every advice posted in this blog is right for you, so take everything with a grain of salt and check in with yourself every now and then to see if a path is right for you. i am not a life coach, a therapist, a psychologist or anything of the sort. i barely know anything, i am still just a kid and the 'real' world is very new and unknown to me. i simply do research on different ways to improve my life, and share them with you. note to everyone reading: i am a girl, 19 years old, european, white and come from a middle-class family. the more similar you are to me, the more the advice in this blog might be right for you. i acknowledge i am very privileged, so my starting grounds might be different from yours. if something in this blog doesn't feel right, it's probably not for you. this blog is meant to be taken with no pressure to succeed. i'm not at all sure how often i'll post and how fast this blog will fill up with advice, but i'm only a human and i hope everyone will be patient with me. thank you and i hope this blog brings you some sort of peace, comfort, happiness, success or feelings of contentment.
as a sidenote, i've never used tumblr and english isn't my first language, however i am fluent in it, so forgive me for any mistakes, grammatical or other.
thank you and enjoy ❤
