Damn a lot of people (including me a day ago) turn a blind eye to the White Knight series as “just a sane Joker” story, but having binged it in a day I can safely say I’M HOOKED.
Not to mention the absolute masterful redesigns and appearances of Bat’s rogues (even if they don’t really do too much on their own in the story). From big names like Mad Hatter (who surprisingly plays a big part in the story as a whole), Scarecrow (who ALWAYS has banger designs every time we see him), Riddler, Killer Croc & Ivy to much lesser known ones like Baby Doll & Roxy Rocket (my reaction to seeing her included anywhere is an exaggerated regency swoon) to even fully new creations like the Producer & Starlet, who I would kill to see more of.
Please give White Knight a chance, the designs of characters, the dynamics of the main cast & the story you will undoubtedly fall in love with. But the little moments in the story are the ones that really tug at your hearstrings... and hey if nothing that i pointed out resonates with you, at least the art is spectacular.

Unpopular Opinion:
Harley Quinn is OVERRATED.
The only versions of her that I like are in:
Batman: The Animated Series
DC Superhero Girls
Batman: The White Knight/Murphyverse
The films where Margot Robbie portrays her
Lego Batman!

WHY I NEVER CARED ABOUT JASON TODD….
…UNTIL NOW!!!!!!
#1 Reason I was EIGHT YEARS OLD IN 1988! However there’s more…
Jason Todd was never on my radar growing up, because I was only eight years old when the voting happened. And then A Death in The Family was published. Plus I was more of a cartoon kid than a comics kid! Once I got into comics, Jason always felt like an after thought, because…

Fuck it, you want to read Jackie Napier? Here's how:
So, there's a few ways to go about it. There's reading all of White Knight and there's reading just the stuff that's like, very important to Jackie.
Guide: Important Reads, Jackie Specific Reads, Recommended Reads
Batman: White Knight
Batman: Curse of the White Knight
Batman White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn
Batman Beyond the White Knight
Batman White Knight Presents: Generation Joker
Reasonings under the read more:
Batman: White Knight
In order to understand the overall story of the Murphyverse, you kind of have to start from the beginning. This will establish a lot of what's going on and get you in on the lore and make a lot of things make more sense. A definite must read
Batman: Curse of the White Knight
Explains what happened to the Joker, gives us more background, and is Jackie and Bryce's first introduction! They're just babies but still it's something
Batman White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn
Gives some background to the kid's childhood and also the general past of the Murphyverse. First speaking roles for Jackie and Bryce, even if they're minor because they're just toddlers
Batman Beyond the White Knight
Another must read, especially for Jackie. She's the driving force of this book and this gives us a big exploration of her character and also our first real look at who she is. This is the Jackie Napier book
Batman White Knight Presents: Generation Joker
The newest book in the Murphyverse, but also one of the best and most important in terms of Jackie characterization. Also big in terms of her brother! BIG for both of their growth

Changing some things the Murphyverse
I have such mixed feelings about the White Knight Universe/Murphyverse, and I wanted to share some things I wish hadn't happened or had been altered in some way.
Make Harley and Batman's romance the priority. This is the ONE universe where they become a couple, and it's ridden with "I feel guilty because I feel responsible for your husband/I'm like an uncle to your kids." Just let them be happy. I'd probably remove the aspect where Jack goes after Harley, and some of his crusade against Batman is driven by that, furthering Harley's belief that he just wants to own her--and perhaps own Batman. Perhaps in this case, Harley's twins are conceived with Bruce.
2. Remove the demonization of Batman in "The White Knight" comics. I'm SO TIRED of the "Batman has gone too far/lost his way" arc; at this point I feel like DC just does it to show that he's edgy. Dick turning against him in particular was frustrating to me.
3. Make Tim the only Robin. I was kinda frustrated how Tim was shown in a brief panel, but not ever mentioned in the world, from what I recall. As a Tim Drake fan, I'd enjoy if this AU took the opportunity to make him the only Robin. Dick would grow up happily with his family and be acquainted with Bruce Wayne, who attended his shows and became like an uncle to him, and Jason would be a former Joker apprentice (twisted, I know), only to leave, either because Joker tortured him and used him as bait for Batman, or he simply became disillusioned with him, similar to Harley. I know on Prime Earth, Tim was inspired to join following Dick's legacy as Robin and Jason's death as Robin. In my mind, Tim would craft the identity on his own after deducing Batman's identity, noticing the emotional, physical, and psychological damage it's doing to Batman (since the years he spent with Dick and Jason are now retconned as extra solo years).
4. Terry never steals the batsuit, or he steals it and it's revoked from him. I always hate the "they committed a crime, but since it's for the right reason, it gets to slide." Perhaps Tim is involved in this, and originally crafts the suit for himself, only to realize that even if he wanted to have a new identity, he doesn't want it to be a copy of Bruce's, and gives it to Terry.

Between Murphyverse!Diana and John Stewart being feds and Clark apparently being the same age range as Terry, I’m beginning to think Sean didn’t totally map out his AU ahead of time

The white knight stuff is pretty damn good. I applaud Sean Murphy and whatever team he is working with because they have made a fun read. Can’t wait to see the next stuff put out in the murphyverse

I’m deeply behind on all the Batman White Knight stuff, but I so wish that, given Sean Gordon Murphy did the art for Scarecrow: Year One and his art has changed so much, and has such a distinct style and personality...I would love for him to do another story in that universe, focused more on Scarecrow. I think back in like....2017? 2018? I saw him at a con mentioned I loved his work on Scarecrow Year One, and I’ve always secretly hoped that’s stuck in his brain somewhere, haha.
I don’t know if I’m gonna have time, but I’m gonna see if I can get caught up on the Murphyverse today, in between work.

and since i’m just complaining about everything today i will say. i can’t believe they’re making more white knight stuff. one day i will write an essay dissecting white knight and the reasons i hate the murphyverse. i don’t understand how people can speak so highly of a series that is 99% retcons and btas and batman 1989 references. the writing is borderline incoherent yet people will praise it to the moon and back. i don’t get the hype at all.
