Vent Ahead

So listen; everyone has all sorts of f/os that people self ship with. Not all are the typical "hot anime guy or girl type". Some people self ship with characters such as The Simpsons or from SpongeBob etc and that isntotally valid.

I had someone tell me that my love for Ra's al Ghul which is this guy here, is so gross and nasty. Like they said "Why Ra's??? Just why?!!" I then proceeded to tell them I have friends who also adore Ra's in a romantic way. They then sent me some youtube link and said "Listen to this and it will fix your madness!"

That made me upset and I just blocked. Like look, Ra's is not everyone's cup of tea but I love him and that is enough for me. So please, don't go harassing or telling people that their f/os are gross or whatever negative things. These are our loves. They mean the world to us, and what they see in them is very important to them, even if you don't understand why.

You want to know why Inigo Montoya remains such an iconic and beloved character even 35 years after the Princess Bride came out?

It's because he's one of the few characters in fiction who has a story where he has dedicated his life to revenge, his whole motivation is about getting revenge....and he gets it! and then he isn't empty or despairing! he doesn't regret it! he's totally satisfied!

because so many stories about revenge or rage are about characters "seeing the futility of their actions" or learning "their desire for revenge has only made them the monsters they hated" FUCK THAT.

Inigo Montoya kills the man who kills his father, is allowed to live in the narrative after and be happy about it and it is so satisfying. it's fantastic. it's iconic.

let more characters rage against the world, bring it down with bloodied hands, and let them be FUCKING RIGHT about it. Let them celebrate their success with sharp grins, and let them live happy, full lives where they always remain proud/fulfilled for what they've done

Been thinking about how Donnie and Leo’s insecurities juxtapose each other.

Donnie is insecure about his place in the family, but confident in who he is outside of it.

Leo is secure about being a part of the family, but thinks he’s nothing outside of it.

I think it’s a very interesting comparison that reflects their respective personalities, Donnie’s “Will all I have to offer be enough?” versus Leo’s “Do I even have anything else to offer?”
