1. Falling Down The Stairs Of Your Smile- The New Pornographers. Broadly speaking I think everyone should listen to every song by The New Pornographers, but I hold that recommending something off a bands most recent album serves as an endorsement that they’ve remained good over their entire twenty year career rather than having two good ones and then devolving into an artistic shell of their former self

2. Leave Her Alone- Steven Page. Extremely strong encapsulation of the post-undergrad living-with-ones-parents torpor, which, due to being written by a fifty-something, speaks really strongly to my sense that there’s nothing new under the sun. And he really, really took the singing/songwriting talent with him in the divorce from BNL

3. Restless Year- Ezra Furman. I really like her screaming voice!

4.  Caroline- Brandi Carlile + Elton John. No notes on this one

5. Machine Politics- Waterflame. Great anxiously-pacing-in-a-circle music! Also I love the pixel art on all their videos.

thoughts on The Faculty

Baller as heck.  The Breakfast Club vs. the Sharing.  Proof that a good practical effect, like a puddle of go, can go a surprisingly long way.  The reason (along with O) that teenage Josh Hartnett is my fan-cast for Tom Berenson.  A bad movie, but such a good bad movie.

just read through your entire wik tag. um. (tearfully) babygirl. I feel so bad because like who the hell is going to take care of him after canon?? he’s going to end up living in the ruins of the castle or something. finally gets his Hexside arc

hdsfdjfh "babygirl (tearfully)" is a great title for him. And, I still have to figure that out! I want season 3 to end with him making amends with Hunter and his friends, and technically he's already gotten close to King and the Clawthornes during his stay with the Collector, so - perhaps he'll stay near them?

Or he does get to camp out somewhere. He'd probably do that for a while even if he was offered someplace to stay, honestly

Jon/Martin/Annabelle/etc. taking advantage of the crack in reality at Hill Top Road will definitely not be without consequence, but I don’t think Jon becoming like the other surviving Archivists is what the consequence will be.

I say this mostly because the reality warping/time shifts/interdimensional slippage/eldritch Jeremy Bearimy shit in general caused by the crack at Hill Top Road seems to be (as presented so far!) less along the lines of “dramatically different time and place” and more “your reality, but slightly to the left.” Which is a bit reminiscent of how the NotThem affects its victims, now that I’m thinking about it — the people who retain their memory of the original person know something’s wrong, even if no one else seems to. So in MAG 114, we have Anya Villette getting sent two weeks back into a time/place where her favorite coffee shop doesn’t exist, and she’s totally aware of that, but her friends (or the people who were her friends in her own time/place) aren’t. And the consequences there were her (and the situation she described!) ceasing to exist in her original time/place: whether on paper (employment records) or in anyone’s memory (the real estate agent she claimed to work for).

And considering the recurring plot point this season of Jon losing his memories when he’s separated from the Eye... I think it’s far more likely that something like that will be the consequence if Jon passes through the crack to another dimension: especially one where, like the time/place Anya Villette is originally from, the Institute doesn’t exist (and where the influence of the Fears, but particularly the Eye, may be weakened).

i watched girl house on your recommendation and may I say, I fucking Loved the ending. (spoilers) seeing someone’s face bashed in with a camera is all ive ever wanted. and the news camera at the end? perfect! so thematic! also I really loved that one girl getting out of the sauna, I love when characters are smart and impressive!!

OHHHH YES glad you liked it :D i really enjoyed all of that too, i thought it was a generally smart movie which to me is always a plus. stupid characters can be such a drag to watch….anyways yayyyy movie recs!

(I combined a couple of the prompts that got sent in because apparently my Grishaverse followers are some nasty little fuckers)

“Okay okay okay. Truth.” Nina leans back against the coffee table, draining her second cup of vodka. Trust Zoya to be unwilling to settle for bottom shelf, even when she’s splitting rent with three other people in the cheapest townhouse they could find within a mile of Os Alta University. The vodka is nicer than Nina’s used to, making her feel nice and warm despite the skimpiness of her Halloween costume - and that’s before Hanne’s hand starts drifting up Nina’s thigh.

It’s something Hanne would only be doing so boldly if she was truly plastered (saints bless Nina’s lightweight of a girlfriend), and Genya’s face splits into a wicked smile as she eyes them. “Wildest thing you two have done in bed. Go.”

Hanne gives an indignant squawk, turning scarlet more from the story that Nina knows they’re both recalling, but how does the saying go? All’s fair in truth or dare.

“Come on, Genya, don’t act like you weren’t with me when I bought the strap-on.” Nina pretends to roll her eyes.

“Not good enough!” Genya rises to the bait like Nina knew she would. “If Zoya here right next to me,” (she drunkenly pulls her arm through Zoya’s, halfway falling into the lap of the dark-haired girl who’s trying admirably hard to stay stoic) “was willing to tell all of us about her being too good at humiliating Nikolai and making him cry before either of them could even come,” (Zoya sighs, while Alina and Inej snicker into their drinks) “you can do better than owning a glittery red strap-on.”

“Can I?” Nina resists the urge to smirk. Pecking a giggling Hanne on the cheek, she leans over to refill her drink. “Alright, if you insist.”

Nina forgoes her cup altogether, lifting the bottle in a toast. “You know our study table in the library? I really hope someone’s cleaned it since last week.”

The room bursts into astounded shrieks and cackles. Nina brings the vodka to her scarlet-painted lips, feeling Hanne return the gesture against her neck. So wonderfully warm.
