Something Naofumi

I just think it would be fun if Naofumi randomly shared these weird and sometimes horrific facts about his life before being summoned, and at some point everyone is trying to piece together his life from off-hand comments and things he mentioned once and never again.

Things they've all gathered:

Naofumi had three husbands and two wives before he was summoned (They have yet to figure out his real age)

All three husbands died under mysterious circumstances (everyone is assuming Naofumi murdered them, but aren't sure of the reason (they're thinking either for inheritance or because the husbands were dicks))

He had platonic relationships with both wives, and got married both times to help his friends

He had two pet snakes and a lazy black cat with orange eyes

He was a florist, tattoo artist, painter, photographer, biologist, pediatrician, teacher, and a chef.

Furthermore, he had a girlfriend who disappeared under mysterious circumstances, but Naofumi made it sound like he knew where she went

He has too much specific knowledge about this one very specific period of ancient history

He has lived in two different cottages in the wood; once high up on a mountain in a pine forest, and once by the shore of a lake in an oak forest

He always has this one locket on his person, with a picture/painting inside, but no one has seen it, and he will never let anyone near it

Somehow inspired by this: "If the men find out that we can shapeshift, they're going to tell the church"

Which, Naofumi probably does this while getting ready for a ball/party/feast with the girls and the ladies, and they're all both confused and confusedly agreeing.

Basically eldritch/horror/witch/widow/immortal/shape-shift (idk which one) Naofumi who's out to confused and annoy everyone, but he doesn't even realize it.

Hell, he could just be normal Naofumi, but intentionally out to confuse everyone (If so, he has a whole notebook to keep track of everything).

Ok, I just started Bofuri and, hear me out;

This pair goes one of two ways. Either, Naofumi sees this girl with a shield and insane defence stats and decides to help train her, learning the devour technique along the way and subsequently buffing his own stats in the process. They help each other loads, and eventually Naofumi adopts her like he does Raphtalia, Filo and Melty (daughters and little sister respectively) and she becomes his precious little sister (she's there before Melty). Kaede is absolutely down for having a big brother!! The pair of them make for an untouchable duo!

OR;

The lovers road. Basically the same as above, but instead she gets a crush on him and tries not to let it affect her too much. Naofumi goes full detective mode when he realises something's off, but he's not exactly clued in on romantic relationships, and that shit goes RIGHT over his head. Still, eventually he realises, and he starts to question how she could like him of all people. But, with help from his family, he starts to see her in a new light too :D

My Review of The Rising of the Shield Hero: 3rd Season

Seriously, I forgot this was coming back for the fall season. But there was no way I was going to forget that season three was coming. Crunchyroll jumped several guns to not only announce a second season to The Rising of the Shield Hero, but announce a third season in the same breath. This was in 2019. Do you know how long ago 2019 was? What could have caused my blah attitude and pessimism to come up here? Season two happened.

Oh, but Medea, Myne wasn’t involved in season two. How could it be that bad?

Okay, Myne had her bitchy hands all over season one and I loved that season. Season two was rushed to a point where I need ten volumes of the light novel to get the jist of what the fuck just happened. Me not seeing Myne was a treat and if she was involved in season two, my opinion would still stand.

HISTORY: Isekai. Shield. Outcast. Blah, blah, blah! Here’s season one and season two.

SEASON THREE: Shit, the bitch is in the OP theme. I’m going to lose my shizzle on this review, aren’t I?

In the aftermath of the tortoise arc, there’s a glitch that seems to be affecting how Naofumi sees stats and part of his shield. Then, we’ve got the queen relying on Naofumi once more as it seems that the other three heroes are missing in action. Bitch is too. Normally, I would say good riddance on everybody disappearing, I hope they get eaten by a giant chicken. But that’s just my anger popping up again. I have leftover resentment from season one where I just want retribution for Naofumi. I know they’re technically heroes, but they’re shit-heroes. And as for bitch, I hope that she’s not only eaten by a giant chicken and shit out off of a cliff. She must be up to no good knowing her. And then there’s a little something that really grinded Naofumi and Raphtalia’s gears. Demi-humans and slavery!

Yeah, it’s not a modern Isekai without slave-trades.

Naofumi and his team wind up competing in an underground fight club. Save some twin tiger demi-humans. Don’t get too excited, this tournament arc was only the span of 1 or 2 episodes. They do go back to the underground fight club near the end of the season, but it’s not worth mentioning. Naofumi is staying true to saving previously enslaved demi-humans. Meanwhile, we’ve got a phoenix-sized wave about to occur in a couple of months and no one knows where the other heroes are. This season, we get to know more about the other three heroes; Ren, Motoyasu, and Itsuki. Not only what happened to them during the tortoise arc, but before they were sent to this world.

Motoyasu was ditched by his entire team when he couldn’t even make a dent in the tortoise from last season. Itsuki went full-on Judge Claude Frollo. And Ren’s entire team was slaughtered. But a certain someone came in and toyed with each and every one of these boys.

AND NOW, MEDEA IS ABOUT TO MAKE NO SENSE: I truly apologize for the raving I am about to unleash.

My anger is warranted. In the span of a single episode, Myne claimed infamous status in the anime community as the worst thing since Shou Tucker. Let’s not go too ahead of ourselves. I’d say she’s just between Griffith and Shinji Matou. I’m just glad Motoyasu saw Myne’s true colors (AGAIN) as she lied AGAIN about him raping her. Lying about being raped seems to be her ace in the hole time and again. This woman is worse than tumors on your uterus.

Not even Filo doing an idol performance in the same episode could calm me down. Nice try, anime!

NEW CHARACTERS: Quite a bit more girls added to the roster. We got the drunk orca, the glitch in human form, and the tiger twins. They are all orphaned demi-humans. Give Naofumi some credit as we finally got one male teammate.

Sadina is a human and orca, I guess. She has a lot of history with Raphtalia and that’s the end of that tale. Spoilers.

Then, there’ S’yne. She’s the girl who sounds glitchy every time she speaks. S’yne is at first not trusted by Naofumi due to an earlier reputation. But she sticks around.

And then there’s the tiger twins, Fohl and Atla. Naofumi saved them from that underground fight club. Before, Fohl was barely scraping by and earning whatever he could to help his ailing sister. Now, the twins are thriving (despite Atla being blind and sometimes has trouble walking). Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.

SHIPPING: Rishia really, for real, truly needs to give up on Itsuki. And if the slap in the face he gave her wasn’t enough of a big indicator…no, it truly needs to be one. I’m glad she stepped up to try and reason with him. But…eh, I got nothing else for this. I’m just annoyed by Itsuki dropping Rishia for being weak and Rishia still devoted to him.

And Raphtalia still loves Naofumi. It’s still unrequited. And she will still get jealous of anyone hugging, rubbing on, or sleeping with Naofumi.

ENDING: It’s obvious that Bitch has been poisoning the minds of every, single one of the four heroes. While Naofumi’s interaction at the beginning of the series was bad enough, Bitch took advantage of the other three during really rough moments of their journey. And all I can say is, Naofumi was wrong to keep her alive for this long. He should have just allowed the queen to have her daughter’s head chopped off. Motoyasu was dropped once it was shown that he could not make a dent in the tortoise from last season. In Bitch fashion, she claimed Motoyasu raped her making him out to be the town Harvey Weinstein. With Ren, Bitch manipulated him after losing his teammates in a gruesome way. But she ditched him soon after Naofumi got involved and helped him out. Finally, there’s Itsuki.

Itsuki wound up with a cursed item given to him by Bitch. These cursed items have not done anyone any good during this season and caused a lot of damage for the heroes who had them and Naofumi having to clean up the mess afterwards. When Ren was possessed, it caused a lot of trouble for innocent bystanders. Ren, Itsuki, and Motoyasu are all terrible and made terrible messes throughout the majority of this series. They should be licking Naofumi’s boot every morning when they wake up. Sorry, leftover hatred again. However, Itsuki’s sense of justice pissed me off further down the series. Itsuki pulls off his stupid justice kick by attacking Naofumi’s crew and innocent bystanders with his bow and arrows. Hell, he was going to kill Rishia because she didn’t believe in his “justice”. Thankfully, she and Naofumi were able to end Itsuki’s cursed justice. Itsuki is just mentally broken, but is cared for by Rishia.

Hmph. He should have just been left to rot in a wheelchair like Kirito in SAO. Not even sorry for that!

Okay, we’re at the final episode. Not sure when we’re going to see this wave attack with a giant phoenix. In two months is what Naofumi says but who the hell knows! And Bitch is still on the loose. She did drop Itsuki pretty fast, leaving him broke and broken. I know everyone wants Naofumi and the other three heroes together. I’ve been against that from the beginning. Sorry, last time! As of this moment, Itsuki and Ren are with Naofumi and his crew. Motoyasu…everyone still seems to avoid him like the plague. Yeah, he’s annoying. But mostly it’s because he wants to lewd Filo and now calls Naofumi, “Father” because, yeah, he technically did hatch Filo. Who wants to tell Motoyasu that Filo is technically a couple of months old? Okay, final episode. What’s in store?

Raphtalia is royalty!

Naofumi gave Raphtalia some priestess garb. Sadina got scared and warned her to remove the clothes immediately. Just then, Naofumi’s area is attacked (AGAIN). Usually, it’s slave poachers or someone under Bitch’s control. These new guys are different entirely. This time they want to kill Raphtalia. Why? Because she’s really the heir of this place called Q’ten Lo. Raphtalia’s father was the original ruler but abdicated and started a family. Sadina has been watching this family from the very beginning. So, there’s much more to Raphtalia’s family than just what we learned in season one. Naofumi is understandably pissed that these spies from Q’ten Lo are after Raphtalia and have been watching her pretty much her entire life. So, I guess we’re going to Q’ten Lo now.

Okay anime, that’s fine. But a few things. Phoenix wave is going to hit in less than two months. Filo still needs to up her stats after the whole dragon incident. Bitch is still on the loose. Itsuki is on par with a roasted parsnip. We don’t know where Motoyasu is nor do we care. Still in the dark about the tiger twins and that guy at the palace who hates Naofumi. Naofumi is about to drop everything to prepare for the biggest wave to date to go to this place we only learned about five seconds ago. And most importantly, THE ANIME IS OVER!

Yes, this does set us up for a possible fourth season or movie. As of now, we have a fourth season in the works. But I just have to ask myself this. Do I even want it? Okay, stupid question. I do want to see it for what happens. It’s just that I’m kinda in a slump when it comes to this anime. Most of that blame does stem from the previous season. This season wasn’t as bad, but it’s a far cry from where things were in the first season. I’ll give the anime this, it spiked my blood pressure on my day off from work. That’s not a good thing!

So, I guess we’re going to this Q’ten Lo place, meet new characters, and take a total detour from where this story was going with fighting the waves. Then again, this season had absolutely no wave-fighting. And I’m sure we’re not going to get much clarity of any other character that gets introduced and is a “insert-something-here” hero. I’ll give season four a fighting chance if someone throws a Molotov cocktail at Bitch’s face. For those looking for an improvement to season two’s disappointments…I can’t lie. You would probably only like half of the series. Anything involving Wyndia, dragons, and the whole lot of demi-humans might lose your interest.

Listen, he knows what it means to always be guarded. It is something that he clearly excels at in his day to day life, both while at home in the Coral Sea and while at NRC as the Vice Housewarden of Octavinelle Dorm. - Not the sharpest tool in the shed but not dumb either

I need more people who know about the FF game with Prompto to read and then write crossovers with Rising of the Shield Hero.

Rising of the Shield Hero is a story where 4 boys from alternative universe versions of Japan get isekaied to a specific country to stop the waves in which a bunch of monsters appear and more and more monsters appear and fuck shit up until the boss monster is offed.

The 4 heroes each have a different weapon that are supposed to be divine. The bow hero, the spear hero, the sword hero, and the Shield Hero who can't do any damage :(

The 4 heroes aren't allowed to team up because they won't get as much exp to level up if they do. The weapons literally tell them that

The first three think the world they've been summoned into is similar to a game they've played in their original world- and kinda treat it that way.

The shield hero never played a game similar to it and because he has no knowledge of the world he's been kidnapped by - the other 3 were seconds/minutes away from dying Shield was just reading a book and was in no way shape or form in any danger- none of the adventures that were summoned to join one of the heroes would join him except one admittedly pretty girl who turns out to be the eldest princess of the nation and frames him for attempting sexual assault one day after joining his team. The other 3 believe her even though the claim is clear BS. And because unlike the other 3 the shield hero isn't worshipped everyone except 1 guy who can't give the shielder much help believes her and hates him. He ends up buying a child slave who's from a race that's humanoid but has animal features and ages up based on their level so she's a 10 when he buys her and then she levels up she looks 18.

The better Wikipedia summary is:

Naofumi Iwatani, a Japanese youth, was summoned into a parallel world along with 3 other young Japanese men from parallel universes to become the world's Cardinal Heroes and fight inter-dimensional hordes of monsters called Waves. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi happened to receive the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment, while the other heroes received respectively a sword, a spear, and a bow, weapons meant for attack. Unlike the other heroes who are fully supported by the kingdom and gain several strong allies each, Naofumi's luck turns to the worse after his single companion, revealed to be the kingdom's eldest princess, betrays him, steals all his belongings, and leaves him devoid of all assistance and supplies after she falsely accuses him of sexually assaulting her.

You're probably asking me "FanGirl3, WTF does this have to do with Prompto Argentum?" Well I'll tell you. Rising of a Shield Hero has birds that resemble chocobos called Filolial. They look the same except for maybe color considering the shield hero anime has brown birds.

Anyways if raised by a hero a Filolial can take a human form. And I am a simple girl who wants a Filolial to be named Prompto.

Motoyasu would want to experiment with everything just to see if he likes it.

Now imagine him trying to ask Naofumi, his older brother/father figure if he would help him get beginner toys or tips for being a bottom because he was curious (not because he heard therufumi being loud at night and imagine himself like that with his crush getting turned on) and feels like he could get "professional" help

Or him wanting to try on skirts and dresses to see why women like wearing them, he goes to Therese since she's the expert. He feels pretty wearing them and understand why women wear

@shieldherostuffs I saw your mute Naofumi and raise you a deaf Naofumi

Naofumi was born almost deaf and was given hearing aids that help him once he turned a year old. Yes he did have to take speech therapy to help him talk like a normal person but he can sign and lip read.

After getting teleported to Melromarc, his hearing aids broke because the high mana disrupted the electrical wiring in them so he couldn't hear. He had a feeling everyone but the three others that were summoned was hostile due to their body language so he wouldn't disclose his disability to them in case it was used against him so he pretended to be normal just a little "slow".

After getting melty to join his party he would get stuff that would be useful while trying to find a place that would enchant his hearing aids to work in this world. He does find a place but they only open at night so he decided to go to an inn to rest up a bit before night. Once night rolls around, he tells the bar tender that he should be back before sunrise then leaves to the place spending the night there because its dark. (It doesn't work as intended but he can now hear animals)

He has to turn down them because he doesn't need to hear the cats gossiping and find knights looking around for him holding his stuff so he goes and tells the old man, the bartender and the person he was just with about what happened then goes to get "captured"

Trial is the best part where Naofumi kept asking them to repeat his accusations acting like he doesn't understand then calls metly out for her lies because they had separate rooms one and two he wasn't even in the inn at the time of the "rape". Ren helps Naofumi's case seeing as he saw the male in the distance but he seemed pretty far from the inn.

Naofumi thanks Ren (first child acquired) after the trial then leaves to go get his other children and teach them sign so he can talk with them and plan out strategies. Raphtaila is obviously better because she has more experience but Filo is getting better.

Meeting Therese and L'Arc was a trip for him. Seeing a very beautiful women and a handsome man made his heart stop in awe. There looks bad him in a trance but he was caught by Filo as she teases him about his newfound crush making Raphtaila caught on and join in.

The trio gets close after L'Arc introduces himself trying to flirt with him but it fails because Naofumi was very red and stutters trying to talk to him. He longs to hear their voices making his heart ache. He was still trying to find someone who could fix his hearing aids so he can hear again.

After the trial with bitch and trash, Naofumi reveals to Raphtaila, Filo and Ren his secret making Ren want to help. Once they find a person to help Naofumi, he puts on the buds again making him almost cry hearing their voices.

Hearing L'Arc and Therese's voice did make Naofumi cry. L'arc's voice sounded like chocolate but it was sexy as well and Therese's voice sounded like an angel.

HUMANS ARE SPACE ORCS AU

Naofumi woke up in a cage confused as his head spins from dizziness. He tries to remember what he was going before blacking out when he saw creatures of different sizes look at him frighten. He observed them to guess that they were talking but he couldn't understand what the language was, it sounded like english but in reverse mixed with pig latin.

A growl sound could be heard as he looked embarrassed since he was starving as fruits were sitting out. Grabbing the fruits, he took a bite as the taste of pineapples and watermelons as he made a happy noise trying not to devour the fruit.

After finishing the fruit, he looked up and saw two tall humanoids. The first looked to be female but he wasn't sure as large antler like horns were on her head, long blue hair on top of white scale like skin that had a layer of what seems to be retractable fur with a broken long tail but he couldn't figure out what its true from was. She seems to be made from gems with scared bumps bruises and cuts along her body and her hands were scared with claws for fingers. Her sharp sea green eyes held fear, curiosity and caution as her plump soft purple lips were spread thin.

Look away from her, he notices a peacock like male with dragon wings and a parrot tail. He seems to be very multicolored with red head that was connected to a human like face, golden eyes with slit pupils, kissable red lips and elf like ears. His body seemed to have fur like a wolf.

Hearing footsteps, a group of tall coaches with with alligator tails and croc snots holding trays of fruit and sloppy joe like poop with water bottles into the cell as the female grabs some fruits while the male ate some of the of the slop

By the Sevens, you’re so beautiful! The instant he meets you for the first time, Kalim is instantly taken by your beauty. He’s not one to fully judge based on appearance, but he absolutely loves your hair! It’s so thick and curly… It even bounces when you move! Your voluminous hair makes him want to run his hands through it. 

When Kalim gets to know you better, and if you have the courage to tell him about your past, he’ll be somewhat wary, but grateful for your change of heart. Although Kalim is also from a wealthy family, he isn’t as arrogant or snobbish as most others who were born into a life of privilege. Because of this, however, he knows your type really well. He knows that you have been humbled and are striving to do better for yourself, but your antics can hurt people more often than not. Kalim had to learn the hard way that his actions have consequences and that led to Jamil betraying him in the process. If you’re not too careful, he tells you with concern in his eyes, someone could do the same. 

As you can see, Kalim takes you very seriously. Not as a threat, but as another person born from wealth. Out of anyone else, he can empathize what it’s like to be in a place where you were surrounded by much fortune for most of your life, only to have drawbacks in the process: for him, assassination attempts, relative isolation, and ignorance of the outside world; for you, your cutthroat personality. 

Oh my, you’re such an active person! Kalim may not share most of your interests with you, but he appreciates how well-rounded you are. If you ever ask for it, he’ll gladly provide the necessary materials for your hobbies. If you complain about your art supplies, he’ll buy you new ones from a renowned art supplier. If you don’t like your camera, he’ll get you a new one! Maybe this new camera has magic in it, too! And if you need more practice with your chosen sports, he can easily reserve a resort for just the two of you so you can go snowboarding. 

As for what she desires in a partner, Kalim hopes that he can match your expectations. He’ll admit, he was wary of you at first, but the more time he spends with you, the more he realizes just how much you wish to share your love with another person. Kalim knows he’s not perfect; his recent conversations with Jamil have revealed just how ignorant he was, but for you he’ll try because you’re also working on bettering yourself as well! Overall, you cannot deny that there is a tension, maybe even a rivalry, between you and Kalim during your first few interactions. However, in order for this relationship to flourish, you need to lower your guard and reveal weakness. For the both of you, this could easily be akin as asking for an assassination on both your persons. However, this is the price you pay for trust and if you pay it forward, you will surely reap bountiful rewards.

Tbh when I read someone’s headcanons about Ren and Naofumi being besties like brothers it’s always seems a little bit funny for me.

No offense, anyone can headcanon whatever they want, this hc makes more sense than some of mine, but I just remember the books, especially up to Volume 12 (and up to Ren’s “character development”, which I.. Let’s say I just don’t really like it), where Naofumi scolds and taunts Ren for EVERYTHING he does wrong or… not even wrong

I mean, it’s kinda understandable when it comes to Motoyasu and Itsuki (after volume 5), but Ren? God, I wouldn’t be surprised if, during the reread of LN, I found lines where Naofumi  rebukes Ren for living.

Ren tells how he saved his childhood friend, but died because of it? Lol, dude, you’re such a stupid poser, trying to be a hero, but geting stabbed instead, dumbass

Ren feels bad for the dragon desease? Huh I thought you were cooler maybe I should scold you for your weakness lol

Ren can’t swim? OHOHO BITCH THAT’S YOUR MISTAKE I’LL TAKE ANY CHANCE TO MOCK YOU FOR YOU USELESS TRASH

Ren feels depressed over the death of his party members and desperately trying to convince himself that it’s not his fault so that the mass of guilt doesn’t crush him? You’re disgusting bastard I’m literally sick of you are a killer and you deserve all the shit you’ve been through

And all this, considering the fact that Ren wasn’t the one who was so cruel to Naofumi, he became much more loyal after Naofumi’s duel with Motoyasu and even helped him (said out loud that Naofumi was the one who won the duel, convinced the king to give Naofumi 500 silver, tried to negotiate with Naofumi during the Melty case, almost died trying to investigate the Church’s conspiracy against Naofumi)

Older Naofumi AU

I like the idea of Older!Naofumi (think maybe mid-40s, and i wanna say he's got multiple tattoos and piercings, after getting his own life away from his parents) who's finally gotten his life stable, and then gets summoned, so now he's just done with everyone's shit.

This also means he has more life experience (+game and manga/anime/all-that-stuff knowledge.)

Naofumi, at the trial: "I'm abstinent, you dumb fucks! Have been for years, and I'm not gonna break it for a girl who looks half my age. I have standards."

He somehow ends up parenting the other Heroes as well, because they're all young and in an unfamiliar world, thinking they're immortal, two of them aren't even legal adults yet and Motoyasu acts like he never got attention as a child. They need parental guiding and support, and a reality check.

When the Queen comes back, Naofumi gives both her and her husband a lesson in parenting, despite the fact that he's only been doing it for a few months (technically most of his life because he basically raised his little brother as well), and they've got a whole teen with parental and self-issues and child who was forced to mature too quickly. But let's be honest, he's already doing better than the two of them.

At some point, during cal Mira, Naofumi waltzes into the room where the other three are chatting, and proudly announces "I am proud to announce that I am no longer abstinent." for the sole reason of embarrassing them.

Motoyasu: Was it Therese? Itsuki: Or was it L'Arc? We're having a bet and we wanna know. Naofumi: Yes. Ren: Fuck yeah. I win. >:)

ADMITTEDLY this is a broad enough question as to where i could be making headcanons about Any Such Thing !! i don't have too many headcanons yet but i can make shit up as i go honestly. i like questions that ask me somethin a lil more specific bUT ALSO I LOVE HAVING FREE RANGE AND PERMISSION TO GO APESHIT SO LIKE. IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER

General Headcanons

i'd like to think that each cardinal hero had a piece of media in their original world that resembled at least one of the other cardinal hero's lives:

Naofumi had this sleeper hit visual novel he introduced to his little brother as a way to get him into the medium: it presented itself as this dating simulator game about this university student and his complicated love life. As the game progresses and depending on the routes, it's slowly revealed that there is something amiss regarding the protagonist's life and how he interacts with the company he keeps. The game progresses into a psychological horror/thriller in some aspects—not really like Doki Doki Literature Club but y'know there was something going on there. Naofumi offhandedly mentioned that the game had a secret true ending that was overwhelmingly gay and his little brother called his bluff. The secret gay ending is real.

Itsuki seems like the type to strongly prefer escapist media, but I'd like to think an acquaintance at his private school happened to suggest a short and sweet manga to him that she thought he might find interesting. He decided to read it on a whim one day and was disgruntled to learn it was a Normie-verse (media where no one has powers) slice-of-life thing, but he had nothing better to do (had to wait for something) so he tried to finish it anyways. It was about this middle school prep student breaking down under the pressure that his parents were placing on him to succeed, trying desperately to find an outlet. In the midst of it all, his "slacker" older brother, who wasn't doing so hot in college at the time, took it upon himself to try and reconnect with his little brother and the two eventually start bonding over otaku culture. It was an incredibly heart-warming read but also it made Itsuki cry a little bit because he was very jealous of the main character. He wants an older brother like that so bad. he refuses to admit he liked the manga no matter what the girl who lent it says

Ren... I don't really have an elaborate one for him, unfortunately. The Cardinal Hero whose media he got would be Itsuki's by process of elimination, however! It'd probably be (by his world's standards) an older video game or anime of some kind, probably kind of BNHA-esque with those strong Golden Age comics inspirations. Maaaaybe it could've been something ongoing but got canceled? So Ren never learned how it was supposed to end.

Motoyasu seems like the type who doesn't always keep up with most popular media, or at the very least would hear about it from osmosis. If not that, he's probably right on top of popular things. Probably a mix of both? Incredibly on the pulse for some things, incredibly clueless on others, and it's random what he'll know and what he won't. He'd probably mostly get onto some stuff through his friends—probably was binging anime w/one of his best guy friends one night and what was on was this movie about a futuristic Japan. In particular, it was a split story between a criminal down on their luck but sank deeper into the underworld, as well as a reclusive high school student trying to get by. It wasn't that extreme of a movie, but for whatever reason the bloodier parts with the high schooler saving his friend perturbed Motoyasu a lot, to the point of walking out for a bit. His female friends at the time made fun of him for getting so squicked out at the movie.

i kiiiinda like the idea of the younger two of the cardinal heroes paralleling/being foils to the older two. Ren and Naofumi seem to have kinda similar outlooks (at least, the roots of them) as well as appearances; same with Itsuki and Motoyasu. they both even have the same age gap by year (naofumi & motoyasu are 4 years older than ren & itsuki respectively). There are lessons Ren & Itsuki can take from their older counterparts—both things they should avoid (naofumi's wrath and unwillingness to speak up, motoyasu's naivete and ignorance to the point of delusion) as well as things they can take with them (naofumi's proactive nature, tendency towards learning skills & self-improvement, and keeping and listening to good people around him; motoyasu's warm & friendly nature as well as his loyalty + mindedness towards the people immediately around him, rather than focusing on how he himself looks—listen he's being manipulated that doesn't excuse his idiocy and terrible judgement. but he does care about people and their PERSONAL LIVES in his own way, rather than itsuki doing good things because they're "morally just")

the cardinal heroes probably met up a lot outside of Naofumi (because, y'know, he was made a pariah), so they probably talked a bit more about stuff and got to know each other a teensy bit better. I'd like to think—and these would be conversations that happen much later, like brink of or after the Spirit Tortoise arc—the three of them all realized they all died, though they probably would question if Naofumi had died at all (as he seemed the most insistent on getting home). Ren also toyed with the idea that perhaps Naofumi didn't remember his death, so he perhaps still believed he had somewhere to go back to.

Itsuki mentioned his death first and regretted it immediately (ren and motoyasu lost it at the idea that itsuki got isekai'd the old-fashioned way). In comparison, Ren was very reluctant to mention the details of his own death, so he more or less set the stage and left it to interpretation. (Itsuki got frustrated that Ren appeared to have gone out like a hero and Ren didn't want to say anything.) Motoyasu likely lied about the exact details of his death and talked about the last few days he remembered, leading the other two to extrapolate that he got killed because of his womanizing. He'd later go on to admit that he didn't actually remember how exactly he died, but what he does remember is something he'd rather not think about.

(i also headcanon that they have scars from their deaths lol. ren's got that big stab/slice scar; motoyasu has several cuts and perforations throughout his stomach and abdomen, as well as stray stab marks on his chest; itsuki likely has some faint but permanent bruising on his backside & head)

Naofumi hears that the other three died and he'd be like What? I was kidnapped by a book. What???

Ren

gay, open about it; i'd like to think his Japan had progressed just as much in societal matters as it has technological. Japan doesn't have transphobia & homophobia the same way America (my country) does, so I'm not entirely sure how things over there would change, but nowadays from what I understand Japan is a lot more casual about people being gay than Americans are. SO there'd hopefully be far less judgement and expectation on a gay high schooler in Ren's Japan, for instance? so he can just be open and it wouldn't be a big deal.

(i also sincerely hope that Ren's Japan would have figured SOMETHING out for its atrocious bullying problem, but sadly i do think that it's wholly possible that it's still an issue. maybe not as bad as it is right now, but frankly almost anything would be an improvement considering how fucked up bullying can get over there. i can see ren's behavior stemming from even mild bullying but it's possible that he's Just Like That™.)

his best friend, the one that he saved and the one i'm assuming he played video games with? i think it'd be interesting if they were actually dating :3 but also my hc of "ren being openly gay" and "ren dating his best friend" might not necessarily line up. being open isn't a one-and-done thing, however, so it could more be a thing that ren was open back in his world (because he didn't have to hide), but ren probably knew enough about the rest of the world/medieval media to be like "maybe i should wait and see how people react to this kind of stuff <:|"

so ren probably has just never brought up his sexuality to anyone in this world. if he got the signal that it was safe to talk about it, he probably forgot that being temporarily closeted was a problem and would probably go around assuming that people knew he was gay, because that's his default—

i'd like to think that ren & his [boy]friend always wanted to move somewhere more natural and grassy—just somewhere with a lot of natural beauty. i know i said in my last post or so that he'd have the least amount of knowledge of the natural world, but i don't think that'd mean he wouldn't be interested in knowing more about it. maybe he and his friend would stay up some nights after some grinding sessions and just. talk about the future. moving to somewhere in the japanese countryside, or maybe somewhere untouched in europe.

he probably thinks about that sometimes while traveling melromarc.

i think this guy likes white chocolate. iunno.

listen. i try not to focus too hard on sexuality/romanticism headcanons because i think it's important to like. characterize folks outside of their romantic/sexual relationships. ships are really fun but also i wanna know about the Character Themself.

but sometimes it's very much a case of "i think their sexuality would inform their behavior and vice versa," even if the character themself sees their sexuality as a footnote. imo, ren just happens to be gay, sees himself as someone that happens to be gay, but his relationships and the people he knows/loves very much inform who he is. especially because he doesn't seem like the type of person to go out of his way to establish relationships of any kind.

so like. if he has a boyfriend, that's a big thing. and having a boyfriend in practice isn't interchangeable with having a girlfriend—especially if you're the same gender as your partner(s). so me headcanoning him being gay is like. he cares about someone deeply, and that someone is a guy, and he would not love him as much if he were a girl. the relationship would fundamentally be different then. Gayboy.

Naofumi

i'd like to think he was still a chill older brother sort of guy before getting summoned. after breaking down his little brother's walls their relationship probably got real close again. i could see naofumi teasing him a lot and him being teased by his brother a lot

i've mentioned it before but i think naofumi would read a lot of doujinshi. i don't mean like the Explicit Stuff but like. i think he'd be our equivalent of scrolling through AO3 and reading literally whatever caught his eye, or even whatever popped up (because he's bored). he'd be the sort of person who'd read fanfic/doujinshi of media he hasn't even read before. i think he'd just be a voracious reader in general

this is ALSO scattered about my posts & tags but i think Naofumi is some flavor of asexual and some flavor of biromantic / greyromantic. i'm going to make this even funnier and say that he still reads explicit shit anyways. he's like "ok nice." doesn't even blink. it's a story what does he have to say except they're fucking.

FORGOT TO MENTION i don't think he'd use labels either. if someone asked his orientation i think he'd be like "eh. i don't really care"

i don't think he's really dated anyone, at least for very long. he does experience some aesthetic attraction but that's about it. and even then it's like "oh, they look nice. aight" and he forgets about it. apparently he describes how good motoyasu looks in the LN a lot though so maybe he's more into aesthetics than i thought. i can definitely see it

i'd like to think Naofumi started a little garden in Luroluna alongside all the fields that exist. there's probably a little section where he does some funky plant experiments (mostly trying to make more resilient and/or delicious food) and tries to branch (ha) his skill tree out, and there could be a larger part where he puts some of his more successful plants out and lets the public do what they wish with them. There's probably a tinier section where he made some fucked up little guys but since they weren't malignant plants and/or not difficult to manage, he kept them around. People are allowed to experiment with those fuck-ups as well as long as they're responsible.

i'd like to think he fell asleep in chicken coops several times. mostly as a kid but also probably once or twice in luroluna as well. filo probably tries to snuggle up with him in there also and it suffocates him--

admittedly i think Naofumi's always been kind of an introvert, even before getting summoned. he seems like the type of person who prefers to do his own thing, but very much appreciates company anyways. he does have some pretty good leadership skills (apparently he ran a guild in a video game back home) so i don't think he exceptionally dislikes people on average, and in fact can get along VERY very well with folks—he just values his personal space is all

Motoyasu (discussion of abuse below)

my friend. my dear friend motoyasu. i like him a lot (this is not a headcanon i just wanted to say that i like him)

i think this man has trauma. i think this man has illnesses. i think there's a lot going on with him and i'm kind of obsessed. i'm reluctant to go in depth with what i think is going on w/him because i fear how my headcanons/readings might be taken on this character, especially as he's the least popular of the cardinal heroes. (at least, from what i could observe on tumblr FJKNSEFJKENS maybe he's more well-liked elsewhere!) anywho, i tried explaining a teensy bit of what i felt anyways, so hopefully what i intended to explain came across properly?

however i don't think his naivete (particularly his gullibility towards women) is... natural? as in, i don't think it's just something he was born with or anything. i think it had to have come from somewhere, and it's likely that it's a behavior he learned from previous relationships. he doesn't have a hero complex to the extent itsuki does, but it's clear that he views himself as someone who has to take on the burden of saving the women around him. which is like, any dude can have that sort of savior complex i guess, and it can be Incredibly Annoying™ if not other things.

but i'm combining this w/the fact that he'll believe the closest woman to him no questions asked is like... that is dangerously self-destructive behavior. this dude can have a spine so the fact that he'd let someone take advantage of him that easily, to the point where he essentially slots into that role (he believed Myne's false testimony first word no questions no doubts and just let her pull him around every which way)... you can't convince me that motoyasu hasn't been abused by a partner (specifically a girlfriend) before, if not several. i'm sorry you just can't

combine that with what we apparently learn from his backstory in the spin-off series and it's like. Dear god. Dear god if he's had to deal with female friends like that (ones who'd rather him die than be with another girl, even if it's a "i want us to die together" kind of deal), entitled to his own emotions in that way? people don't just randomly decide to stab their crush, the girls crushing on him probably treated him in other ways of entitlement (even if they were incredibly subtle), though ofc we don't know the situation for sure. like yeah motoyasu should've been more assertive and tried to talk things out, but girls. shouldn't be pulling knives on people and murdering them idk what to say. even if motoyasu might have been dating several people at once (the wiki doesn't elaborate so idk the context), he shouldn't be like. murdered over it

i do think the savior schtick as well as the flirting in general may have at some point been a front he put on (the skirt-chasing & flirtiness before the heroic schtick anyways) that he kind of just subsumed into his identity. i can see his fondness for angels (and later his tangential obsession over filolials) coming from wanting to embody the heroism angels are meant to have. angels are meant to Save, and idk. maybe he wanted someone to save him. maybe he felt like he had to be a savior to the women in his life. shrugs. he doesn't seem like the type to think he'd be able to get trauma i think he'd ignore it like the rest of his problems

anyways your early 20s is a great time for more overt symptoms of schizoaffective disorders to pop up so like. i think after getting hit w/that Big Traumatic Betrayal by Myne (as well as anime logic) i can see the personality/reality shift he experiences post-Curse Shift to have finally rattled that sort of thing out of hiding from him. him starting to see most women as Literal Pigs is what put the nail in the coffin for this hc of mine. like. uhhh

the Curse Series may be a defense mechanism for psychological trauma, but a lot of mental illness is more or less the brain trying to comprehend the world around it in specific ways. so honestly the Curse Series (and working your way through it) could very much be seen as an allegory for coming face to face with your trauma—learning how to embrace it, but also learning how to accept it and to not let it overtake you. depression can rob a lot of sensation from you (i personally stopped feeling many emotions at all), so Naofumi losing his sense of taste after Myne's betrayal didn't surprise me one bit.

Motoyasu was already straight up accepting/leaning into delusions the longer he spent in this world, being fed lies and such by Myne and the king & likely other royals, so having to come to grips with all of that ALONGSIDE later being humiliated (being forced to see how shit of a job he did as a Hero) and betrayed AGAIN by Myne... yeah. i'm not surprised he broke, and broke that hard. i personally don't even think the Pig Thing was caused by the Curse Series; again, i think it was an underlying mental illness finally rearing its head, and the Curse Series fed into it.

from what i heard motoyasu likes to make his own clothes or something? idr the exact tidbit. but if it's not canon that's certainly my headcanon. Art Student Moment.

mentioned before in some tags that i think motoyasu could be hypersexual? at the very least after unlocking his Curse Series he might have started experiencing its symptoms more and more. tfw the trauma

also mentioned in those same tags that i think motoyasu could probably be pansexual or omnisexual. i still don't really know. both could fit him. but i could also see him just never deciding on a label, nor using one.

i think, in spite of how melromarc royals/the church might have felt about it, motoyasu would probably think demihumans were really cool. i think he'd really want to befriend some and even put a few on his party, but i could see Myne/other teammates refusing or even bullying them out of the party behind his back altogether. i genuinely don't see why motoyasu would want to discriminate against them (he'd see them as people who happen to have animal features, which is SO COOL!), even if others tried to manipulate him. they could tell him that therianthropes are disgusting and greedy and evil and he'd be like "aight!" and then he meets one and is like "yo this is my homie actually. i like her" and myne would have to remind him that she's a therianthrope and motoyasu would be like "But she's epic"

I THINK THIS IS MY FUNNIEST HEADCANON ACTUALLY. "i think motoyasu wouldn't be racist." THIS IS LIKE. SUCH AN UNNECESSARY HEADCANON TO HAVE.

i'm sorry i was just thinking about it. it's so funny that motoyasu has a really low tolerance for alcohol. he probably can't handle spicy food either, but would be the kind of person who'd try repeatedly to show off and eat incredibly spicy food anyways. he'd cry so much

Itsuki

he probably feels so cool about being the only Hero with natural powers i'm ngl. he's probably tried to show off to ren & motoyasu before and he felt SO COOL. ren thought it was impressive and very fitting as a bow hero. motoyasu was also impressed and asked itsuki a few technical questions (something that caught the both of them off guard), and as Itsuki answered more and more he started to get self-conscious again. eventually Motoyasu was like "wow, that's really cool, but it sounds like you don't use it for very many applications. That kind of sucks." it made itsuki really mad, especially after motoyasu (in his dense-headed glory) suggested a few ways to use his powers (and then ren started adding on and refining those suggestions). however after he stormed off he thought about it and was like "y'know what. that would be an interesting way to use my power. alright"

(in retrospect he's still kind of upset that Motoyasu was the one to start suggesting stuff, especially out of the blue, especially after how idiotic he began to act when the church stuff started to ramp up, but he's also... incredibly thankful. Ren offered more advice as well but he wasn't always easy to reach)

perhaps has always had an interest in art and artistic endeavors, but may have felt pressured by Hero Stuff™ and honing his powers to really pursue that kind of thing. may just be because of the trinket he used to get rishia off his team, but i think he'd be a huge fan of jewelrymaking, naofumi should give him some pointers

i'd like to think that even though he faced a lot of bullying in his prestigious school, there might have been a handful of people who cared about him and wanted to get to know him + see him succeed. in particular, crossing a bit into OC territory, but i think it would be neat if there was a girl in the top class who resembled Rishia somewhat (at least, physically at first). so like, this girl would be great at most everything, would be incredibly humble about it, would be the best damn hero Itsuki's ever met. and he'd be green with envy. but this girl would also think itsuki was pretty cool and try to reach out to him, a lot. (she'd be the girl who gave itsuki that manga i rambled about in the General Headcanons thing).

getting to know this girl would (he assumed) be a bit of an in to the strongest people in the school, but turns out that she tries to surround herself w/decent people, so a lot of the people she hangs out with would be people itsuki might consider losers? anyways, this is about itsuki so we're talking about him—i think he would've admired her a lot, but his anger at himself and his own inadequacy might have caused him to lash out at her. (maybe after she saved him from something.) itsuki didn't run out into the street and die Right There, but he definitely died a few days later. that girl probably would've been kinda fucked up hearing about his death, idk if she'd crush on him or anything but. yo. that was a classmate. they were getting so close, too

following that, rishia didn't remind itsuki of Her at first until he took a closer glance and realized they looked a bit similar. so he probably felt really proud to be able to save her for once... then when rishia started doing more heroic things, it ripped out all of itsuki's insecurities and complexes full-force. sorry king about your cringe

i think itsuki is an only child. fuck i didn't talk about this w/the other characters too did i? i think they're all only children except for naofumi, they all exhibit Only Child behavior. except maybe ren. i could see ren being a middle child as well actually

itsuki probably knew a lot about archery before getting summoned, as it'd be a straightforward way to exhibiting his powers. i wouldn't be surprised if he was a bit of a gunsman too—japan has incredibly strict gun laws, but his japan could be different (especially as people have powers there).

probably a cat person. i can see it with my own eyes.

EDIT i did it for the other heroes and i forgot to do it for itsuki & kizuna. mentioned it before, but I think Itsuki would think he's straight and would try not to put too much thought/stock into it. He'd probably actually be bi, but prefer women. he's young tho and wouldn't seem very decided about it so he probably thinks it's something that he shouldn't mess around with too much. he might think liking boys would be another thing he could be bullied about so it's an idea he'd prefer to avoid. Sorry about diagnosing him with internalized homophobia. (i don't think i even gave motoyasu internalized homophobia i think i just made him clueless)

Kizuna

i don't have very many headcanons for her but honorary mention!

queerplatonic partners with Glass. i think they're about the same age, Glass is probably 19 or something. Age aside, prove me wrong

i can see kizuna having pet birds. maybe a couple finches. when Kris popped out she probably got REAL excited (PENGY!!! PENGY!!!!!!!!!)

My Review of My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999

Humor me. Who else thought this was going to be a sequel to Ore Monogatari (My Love Story) where Takeo and Yamada go all the way? I can’t be the only one with that sick thought. Okay completely unrelated anime, let’s see what you got.

Akane Kinoshita is out with her boyfriend Takuma…and she gets dumped. Yep, not even 30 seconds into the first episode and she gets dumped. He’s leaving Akane for a girl he met in an online game that he and Akane were playing together. After the breakup, Akane went on the game she got into because of her ex and went on a killing-spree of monsters. Just then, she meets another player named Yamada who looks like Saitama if he had a weird afro on. It takes him two minutes just for a simple reply. Akane gets annoyed and basically tells him off. After some time from the breakup, Akane decides to go to this on-site event for the game she was playing. Never mind getting freebies for the game, she’s going merely for the fact her ex might be there and wants to flaunt the goods to make him regret leaving her.

Things did not go according to plan. Akane trips and falls down on her way to stalk her ex. The person she bumped into is a handsome young man of few words. Akane realized that this mysterious boy is that Yamada she met in her game prior to this event. Well, Akane is face-to-face with her ex. What does she do? Lies and says Yamada is her boyfriend and even bribes him to keep up the farce. Yamada is quite aloof and can be blunt with the things he says…if he says anything. But what Akane doesn’t know is that Yamada is a pro-gamer.

While the boyfriend lie is merely for whenever Akane’s ex is around, Akane has a nice friendship with not only Yamada, but his inner circle as well.

BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: Even though this was a Crunchyroll exclusive (in association with Aniplex of America), this didn’t see a dub until a good six months after the series had started. Normally, I’d be concerned. But this did happen during the actor’s strike, so I’ll think no more on the matter. And that’s all I’ve got here. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.

DISLIKED CHARACTER: No, it’s not Runa. As much as I love to dunk on those little girls who latch onto the hot character and glare at the obvious main attraction, I actually hate jerky ex-boyfriends who quickly dump their girlfriends over trivial shit more. Yeah, Akane’s ex can kick rocks for all I care. While we only see him two times in the whole show, his breakup with Akane really messed her up.

SHIPPING: Yamada is oblivious when it comes to females. He didn’t even know a girl was confessing to him in the second episode. There’s no way in hell he’s going to fall for Akane. Never mind, dragging her drunk ass to his home in the first episode. As it turns out, Akane and Yamada had quite the cute friendship for the greater majority of this season. And as the series progressed, several of their friends were all for them getting together (even if the two characters aren’t going to do so). But we have to remember that Yamada is going to do what Yamada does. He can be blunt and slow to respond. Yet he somehow acts differently when it comes to Akane. The blunt and slow responses are still there, but he almost acts on a weird impulse at times with her.

Elsewhere, Yamada is quite the favorite around school and elsewhere. There are so many girls at his school that think he’s cute. And then there’s Runa! A lot of insecurities to unpack with this little one. But the fact that she at first wanted to keep Yamada all to herself and push Akane on some rando guy really speaks volumes. That action of Runa’s almost landed her on my dislike category. But I left her off because I grew to like her throughout the rest of the series. She even became a Akane x Yamada shipper. I thought it was adorable when she tried to have Akane bump into Yamada while eating a piece of toast.

But what about Yamada’s silent classmate, Yukari? And what of the girl from Yamada’s past that liked him? The girl from Yamada’s past is someone we’ll never see again. Yukari on the other hand…well, that’s a topic for the ending.

ENDING: Does Akane like Yamada for real? That’s a pretty big question for her as she kinda sees him in a new light after Yamada took care of her when she was sick. There is one big thing that seems to be holding her down and that’s the way things were left off between Akane and her ex. As most people do when they’re dumped, they go through a myriad of thoughts to narrow down what they did wrong. However, she still wants to tell Yamada how she feels. It’s just that the timing never seemed right with the two of them.

Meanwhile, let’s move onto Yamada’s silent classmate, Yukari. We see her a few episodes towards the end of the season. She’s on speaking terms with Yamada in class. And she recently joined the FOS guild that Akane, Eita, and Yamada are in. Her reasons for joining the video game guild were to of course get closer to Yamada. And in the second to last episode, Yukari let it slip out to Yamada that she likes him. Oooooh, right before Akane got the chance to. I sure hope the hint Eita dropped about Yamada about to get confessed to will make a dent. I think it did!

Yamada meets up with Yukari after the confession. Yukari spills everything out and admits how long she’s liked him and every reason in the world she likes him. And Yamada still rejects her! It wasn’t like those airhead replies he gave to the other girls that used to confess to him. This was genuine as he even says that there’s another. Yukari knows it’s Akane and he confirms. Called it!

The guild met up for a dinner with special food and drinks. Eita thought it’d be perfect for Akane and Yamada to have some alone time during the dinner. Things didn’t go according to plan. Yamada was late to arrive. And by the time he showed up, Akane was drunk. Déjà vu from the first episode. Yamada drags her to her home and that’s when Akane asks if he likes her. Yamada says yes. And to make sure that this is real, he promises to remind her when she sobers up that this is true.

Yamada x Akane is official!

This was a cute story despite how things started. It’s not like we haven’t seen similar things happen in other animes. Akane wasn’t even trying to become Yamada’s girlfriend after that time in front of her ex. It was just a sweet friendship that eventually blossomed into a relationship in the end. I always respect a story like that. One has to wonder if the anime will continue with a second season or if it will stay as is with the happy ending given in the 12th episode. By the looks of things, the manga is still on-going with at least 100+ chapters at the moment. I honestly think that the anime will stay with just this season. Well, if you’re looking for a cute slice of life, romcom, maybe check this out. It’s a short series.

Time to rant again cause I really need to get some stuff out of my chest.The canon ships in Shield Hero are awful!

Take what I say with a grain of salt because my "source" comes from YouTube comments,but I still want to talk about these ships.

•Wyndia x Ren x Eclair

Let's take the easy one out: Ren x Eclair. Just look at their ages

Ren is only 16 while Eclair is 20.This is straight up ped*phil*a and extremely gross.Although Eclair's age is not stated in the anime she is obviously an adult woman,both her face and personality are similar to other adult women we see such as the Queen and Ost.Ren's age is revealed in the first episode, there's no excuse for this.

And don't give me the shit "They aged Ren up,he is 18 now so it's ok",no it isn't!!!

They just did the same thing thrice,the first was Raphtalia and the second was Wyndia.

And speaking of Wyndia,her ship with Ren is terrible!Not only does it suffer for the same reasons as Raphtalia x Naofumi does,a little girl falling in love with someone significantly older than her but still end up together,Ren also murder her father!!!

I don't care if he was manipulated into killing the dragon,he still killed Wyndia's father,end of discussion!

•Rishia x Itsuki

These two are literally Sasuke and Sakura, you cannot change my mind.A girl is so in love with a guy to the point where she would jump off a cliff if he asked her to,only for that guy to not give a fuck about her,treat her like shit and try to kill her.

Rishia seriously tried to commit su*cide because of this guy and people still want them to end up together? What?

Now don't get me wrong,her crush on Itsuki makes sense,he saved her from imprisonment and freed her.The only problem is that he didn't do it out of the goodness of his heart,he saved Rishia and took her in to feed his hero complex.He treated her like a maid,he didn't even bother to train her because he didn't want anyone to outshine him and when she proved herself on the battlefield he found an excuse to kick her out because his ego got bruised.

Like,I don't even like Rishia but homegirl deserves way better!

•Raphtalia x Naofumi

And now the moment you have all been waiting for, the myth,the legend,the GOAT,the first ever ship in the Shield Hero: Raphtalia x Naofumi.....

It sucks!

First of all, Raphtalia is Naofumi's slave. I understand that he bought her out of desperation and he treats her very well but it doesn't change the fact that their relationship is not balanced.Naofumi has all the power,he is the master and Raphtalia answers to him and him only.She can't say no to him and is forced to abide by his rules because no matter how "wholesome" their relationship may look they are still master and slave. Raphtalia has no autonomy and Naofumi has too much power over her.

Just because Raphtalia is no longer a slave and has been promoted to a Hero doesn't suddenly make her relationship with Naofumi any better. Their relationship is based on Stockholm Syndrome,a little slave girl is bought by a man and when she grows up she falls in love with her owner.In fact, she is so in love with him to the point where she willingly goes back to slavery to be with him.

What.The.Actual.Fuck.

And let's not forget the cherry on top,the pseudo-incest.Naofumi literally raised Raphtalia,he makes it crystal clear to her and the audience that he sees her as a daughter and people still insist on shipping this.

Not to mention how their relationship was presented in the earliest episodes.

Naofumi takes care of Raphtalia when she is sick,comforts her when she is having nightmares,teaches her how to be strong and how to survive,cuts her hair,feeds her and buys her a toy when he notices her looking at other kids playing.

I just described a single father trying to take care of his daughter,what part of any of that seemed romantic to you?

Even when Raphtalia grows up Naofumi still orders the kids meal for her because he still sees her like a kid,his little girl,his daughter!

Like,people will look at scenes like this and say "Ah yes,a man and his future wife,such a romantic moment". Absolutely disgusting!

In conclusion the ships in the Shield Hero are awful and straight up gross.The ped*phil*c undertones,the toxic and abusive relationships the powers imbalance between the pairs makes these shisp terrible!

We could have had a cool and unique premise with complex characters but nooo,everyone has to be paired up with someone,said people have zero to little personalities and we gloss over the character development so we can see them hold hands or something.

What a waste of characters and story!

Chapter 21 - thoughts.

Heya everyoneeee!!! If you’re here, it’s probably because you’ve read the ending notes of chapter 21 😈 and had decided to see what else I had to say about that chapter hehe.

If not, then you’re still welcome here 🥰 (although I must tell you to read chapter 21 first!! If not, you’re only going to get spoiled half-context post—you can read the chapter right…here!)

Anyways, I decided to start writing extra notes for this chapter (and probably the ones after, if I have anything to say of course) because I wanted to share more of my thoughts and just what goes through my mind 😂 like what inspired me and what I tried to convey.

Without further ado, I hope you enjoy my little notes :3

Now, let’s start with chapter 21!

I guess we can all agree that Naobito is a piece of shit—however, just how shitty is he?

I think you can argue that most of my inspiration came from the Endeavor-Dabi dynamic, Naoaki being Touya/Dabi, of course, if Dabi hadn’t completely snapped as well as having Shoto turn into a little shit.

My interpretation of Naobito was that of Endeavor’s before it was explained that he wasn’t like… that shitty at first? I remember there was a point where everyone headcanon’d he was an absolute monster with him —he was either way but that’s another point— like all these fanarts depicting him being straight up disrespectful to his son by calling him not good enough and comparing him to Shoto, and not caring when he died??

And then Rei, who everyone had in a pedestal and turned out to be that she wasn’t that good of a mother either (understandable, for she was in an abusive environment) to which she admitted she could’ve done better in certain aspects (having her ignore the rest of the children just to focus on Shoto was something I definitely see Tomoko doing with Naoya, probably under the orders of Naobito) I wanted to explore something like that with Tomoko, but I’ve decided to keep her involvement kind of limited for future purposes 😈

Anyways, when it was time to create Naoaki’s background, I took their story as my main inspiration. Naobito didn’t seem to me like the kind of person that would completely ignore his son, or someone to see things all the way to the end—allowing himself to be completely absorbed by his feelings. So, I had to make both his two-sided hypocritical nature, as well as his willingness to take the extra step to berate his children, by giving them snide comments here and there that would eventually gaslight Naoaki into doubting himself.

AND LET’S NOT FORGET POOR NAOFUMI.

I hated writing that scene—which not even part of the original outline. I just thought that it was a great way to show the turning point in Naoki’s life, the one that helped him decide that his brother’s were far more important than pleasing his father. If you must know, his siblings are incredibly protective of him due to the fact that those rejected by Naobito often spent most of their free time with their mom, who tended to him 24/7.

Moving on, I’m not sure if I was obvious enough, but I wanted to portray similarities between Naoya and Naobito, like in the way they shrugged and spoke to Naoaki lol truly the apple doesn’t fall that far from the tree.

Now, I think that Naoaki is a victim of his circumstances, for he was conceived as a tool for Naobito’s use, who maintained relevancy thanks to the fact that there wasn’t anyone else to take his role (that is, until Naoya arrived)

However, I think his fall from grace ended up being harsher due to the situations that occurred before hand:

Naofumi’s sickly condition lead many of his relatives to keep a closer eye on his mother throughout her pregnancy, (morbidly wanting to see if she would birth another child with the same conditions as Naofumi, or not)

The birth of Gojo—a fact that rattled the whole jujutsu community on its own. I tried to highlight how important this situation was by intertwining both the Gojo’s and Zen’in’s technique, something like: one cannot exist without the other, thus if one is around…the other soon follows behind. Another reason that leads Naoaki’s relatives to be further interested in Tomoko. (I headcanon some where disappointed that Naoya didn’t get the 10 shadow’s technique, but that didn’t bother much after a while lol)

I also think that, as talented as Naoaki was, he eventually had to face the obstacle of stunting himself in a spot where growth was becoming harder and harder to achieve. After all, Naoya is canonically considered the most talented one of his brothers, something had to set them apart if they both had his father’s technique.

I don't think his separation from his father would've been that bad if these things hadn't happened, perhaps even the elders would've encouraged Naobito to continue training both of them at the same time, because they were undeniably talented and they would be fools to not add more strength to their family; unfortunately, they were already very tense because they feared their luck was running out, so when Naoya was finally born, he was seen like a blessing lol.

Now, the other thing I consider important to talk about is Y/N’s final reaction—while I was writing that scene, I initially intended for Naoaki to simply take her back to her room when she said she wanted to lay down, perhaps even get Mariya involved where she’s a bit suspicious of her mistress’ newfound relationship (which she already was)  but something inside me told me to take it to the next level and have her vomit lmao as well as get her period, because let’s not forget that one of the many instigators of Y/N’s life!!

Something that I was still hesitant about, for I thought that perhaps her response was one to be an overreaction—but then…I remembered that Y/N was having a very difficult time throughout these past few days: from having to deal with an angered Naoya  (which made her believe she was about to get killed by him) to Naobito turning her fear into a reality, breaking down upon realizing she was basically locked from the outside world, having a su1c1d3 scare with her staff, meeting the twins and seemingly scaring them away for good, and now facing Naoaki (whom she initially believed to be out for her) and his tragic background.

Well… the accumulation of all these things finally took a toll on her mental health, which lead her to be highly insecure of herself, as well as very sensitive to her surroundings. And I thought the best way to portray her inner turmoil was to do so physically: which is why I went down that route! (also, it reminds me allot of that one scene from avatar, where Zuko does like one nice thing and he gets sick—kind of a poetic way to show how difficult change can be haha)

And then… the ending. I really didn’t know how to finish that chapter; my two options at that point were: making Y/N declare that she absolutely hates Naoya and her relationship with (giving the impression that their relationship was beyond repair at this point) or having her accept her imminent death, but not without cause (to avoid putting an innocent child under this toxic environment)

Nonetheless, I believe that either route would’ve show how determined she was to detach herself from the Zen’in family.

BUT!

We do have an unexplored relationship with Naoaki, and a few more loose ends to deal with—so anything can happen at this point 👀

TheRuFumi Shenanigans

Naofumi & Therese decide to be little shits and mess with L'arc by doing and saying everything in a very suggestive way and then acting like everything is normal. From subtle touches on L'arc's arms or thighs to saying something very seductive with a completely straight face. L'arc is going crazy!!

L'arc: Could you two please stop!

Therese: Whatever do you mean L'arc~?

Naofumi: Yes, what is the problem~?

L'arc: Don't act innocent! You two have been teasing me all day!

Naofumi: We really don't know what you are talking about~

L'arc: Naofumi, do you think I don't notice that every time I ask something of you, you lean down and whisper 'Yes, daddy~' in my ear!?

Naofumi: I don't remember saying that. You must have misheard me~

L'arc: And Therese! You're constantly touching my arm and pressing your body against mine!

Therese: Have I~? I don't remember doing that. Are you sure you aren't misremembering things~?

L'arc: Why are guys acting like you've never done any of this!? Do you know how frustrated I am!

Therese: L'arc maybe you should rest, your clearly seeing things that aren't happening!

L'arc: I...Fine *Walks to his room defeated*

Therese:...Should we stop teasing him?

Naofumi: Lol no. Let's see how long, until he breaks~
