Artemis: ...and my new partner, a tarantula. I call him Artemis Jr., aka Spidey Klum, aka Mrs. Doubtspider, aka Joe Spiden, aka Tarantula Basset, aka Spi-dermot Mulrooney.

Persphone: Aka Tarantulina Jolie.

Artemis: What? No, Persphone, have you seen this spider? That's a terrible name.

Persphone: Sorry.

Hestia: Why do you have that thing?

Artemis: Because they were gonna throw him away, but I couldn't do that to my furry little... ah! He's actually really scary up close.

Athena: It's horrifying from everywhere. Athena hates creepy crawlers.

Persphone: Seriously, I'm not going to your apartment if that thing is there.

Artemis: All right, fine, then he'll just live here and help me solve crimes. Get used to him, everyone, 'cause me and this spider are partners for life. He's gone. I left the cage unlocked, and he's gone.

Athena: Somebody find him!

Persphone: Stay off the ground!

Hestia: I'm good.

Athena: I'm out of here.

Artemis: He couldn't have gone far... Unless he can fly. Can tarantulas fly?

Athena: Artemis, you better find that spider. And I'm not coming back here until you do.

Artemis: Uh, Athena, I think I found it.

Persphone: [Gasps]

Athena: Why are you looking at me like that? Oh, no. Oh, my gosh. It's on my head!

I feel like sitcoms from the Golden Age (2000s and early 2010s) would often make too much fun of autistic people. Even the sitcoms that are my favourites, such as Brooklyn Nine Nine and Modern Family are quite harsh (don't get me wrong, they're still some of the greatest ones) and would only have main characters with traits of ADHD (such as Luke and Phil from Modern Family and Jake from B99), which is great, but never autistic ones. Characters with autistic traits would often get made fun for their traits.

What I think Community did waaaay better than any of them is that they have a canonically autistic main character and his autistic traits are embraced. Literally no one makes fun of Abed (the autistic character) except for that 1 time Jeff says he has "Asperger's" as an insult. Other than that none of the main characters ridicule Abed for his autism and treat him with respect and as a regular human being.

What I also like is that they're not acting like Abed hasn't struggled at all. They don't act like autistic people never suffer. Abed still has been bullied. Some people still call him weird and so on. However Abed has found his people. He has his found family that love him and I think it's pretty big and amazing that a show made in 2009 went this far.

Other than that Community also has a character with ADHD traits (Troy, maybe someone else too) and has PLENTY of LGBT+ content. I would definitely recommend it.

so do y'all ever getting get that feeling when you've loved a specific show for years upon years all by yourself because it's a bit too niche for all your irl friends but it ended years ago and no new content from it has come out in years so you go onto every single social media platform (including tumblr) in search of mutuals of this niche show, and then find mutuals who also like this show as much as you, but are then too socially awkward to reach out to those people and ask to be friends? no? just me then :3

If I had to say why I love shows like community, 9-1-1 - Lone Star, Brooklyn 99 and so on, it’s probably for the found family.

Obviously, I love the ships, but there’s something about such big groups of friends that treat each other as family that warms my heart, especially when they’re adults. Maybe it’s because of my fear, as an aromantic person, of being left behind for romantic partners and those kind of shows make me hope that my friends will still be around when they create a family of their own
