i read sounds fake but okay (the book, authored by the podcasters) and it does not cover anyone allo aro. it also has no awareness of loveless aros, non-sam aros, or apl aros. it even includes a "what makes us human is... love! of all kinds!!" section to finish up the book.

tl;dr: this is, first and foremost, a book about asexuality, by an asexual and a demisexual. to broaden their perspective, they surveyed/interviewed ace and acespec people for additional quotes. throwing in the greens on the cover, and having separate aro and ace flags as the section break within chapters, makes it promise something it never delivers.

i also checked their podcast, which is how i found out this book is one year old (as of recording an episode for release on 25 Feb 2024), meaning the writing process itself probably happened in 2022. given the lack of perspective, i had not expected it to be so recent.

the focus on and centering of asexuality while borrowing a bit of the aromantic symbols seems rude at best for people who are clearly aware of the difference between aro and ace. they discuss the split attraction model early on, and they consistently use aspec, acespec, and arospec accurately. oh, and they happen to run what might be the biggest aspec podcast (as in, the only podcast I could name if someone asked me, "are there aspec podcasts?")

i also noticed that alterous attraction rates a mere footnote with a brief definition (and that definition is "between platonic and romantic") when one person being quoted used it. somehow, this doesn't come up for discussion in the relationships chapter. or anywhere.

overall, i got the feeling that the authors were approached with a book deal based on their podcast, but didn't actually have much to say. or just, like, phoned it in. it's a relatively short book. it dives deep into an AITA reddit post because apparently only that one person could be found for the topic of housing. and that's a topic that would have to be revisited to pad out the final chapter.

[i wanted to know what other people thought, so i checked reviews, and the answer is: there's a lot of criticism of the authors' position that you can hate JKR but like HP. accurate and valid; i have nothing to add to that.]

i wanted to be objective, so i scanned the book again. out of 82 quotes, Phoebe gets 3, and Rai gets one. Phoebe, she/they, responded as ace but realized they were bisexual (allosexual, alloromantic, trans) afterward; Rai, they/them, included neither an acespec label nor allosexual.

ten quotes are from people who use a sexuality label other than asexual:

i want to be clear before signing off... it's not that i think everyone should know everything about our community, necessarily, but i do think that people who claim to write for the whole aspec community owe it to us to be well-informed and inclusive before publishing.

Neue Erkenntnisse der Rassenkunde

Prof. Dr. med. Dipl.-Psych. Wolfgang Meins ist, laut Auskunft des Webblogs „Achse der Guten“, auf dem er mehr oder weniger regelmäßig veröffentlicht, „Neuropsychologe, Arzt für Psychiatrie und Neurologie, Geriater und apl. Professor für Psychiatrie“. In dieser Eigenschaft fiel er mir das erste Mal auf, als er dem toten Attentäter von Hanau eine Ferndiagnose ausstellte: Er sei, das könne man an seinem „Manifest“ glasklar erkennen, kein rechter rassistischer Killer, sondern lediglich ein psychisch kranker Amokläufer. Nun mag man staunen über einen Psychiater, der behauptet, an Toten Diagnosen vornehmen zu können, aber das Genre der Apologetik rechter Killer wird nicht nur bei der „Achse“ rege nachgefragt.

Neu sind allerdings Meins‘ Forschungen im Bereich der Sportwissenschaft und Rassenkunde: Am 4.12. veröffentlichte er eine Abhandlung über die Frage, warum es, angeblich, keine BPoC als Weltklassetorhüter im Fußball gebe. Nun mag man fragen, mit welchem Blick derjenige diesen Sport betrachtet, dem die Hautfarbe der Spieler wichtiger ist als das Ergebnis oder gar die Schönheit des Spiels, aber genau dieser Blick ist ja das, was einen Rassenkundler, als den wir Meins jetzt kennenlernen werden, einzig interessiert.

Ausgehend von einer wissenschaftlichen Untersuchung über „racist stacking“, ein Begriff, der Professor Meins aber nicht weiter interessiert, entwickelt dieser „fachlich Vorbelastete“, zu dem er dadurch geworden ist, dass er „in jungen Jahren das Tor einer Jugendnationalmannschaft gehütet“ habe ( zwar nicht im Fußball, sondern im Hockey, aber ein Ball war immerhin mit im Spiel ), seine Antwort auf die Frage, warum es recht wenige farbige Torhüter in der Bundesliga gebe. Und sehr bereitwillig begibt sich der Herr Professor auf das, was er „vermintes Gelände“ nennt, und lässt sich über die „speziellen kognitiven Voraussetzungen für eine erfolgreiche Karriere als Fußball-Torhüter“ aus und kommt dann zu dem erwartbaren Ergebnis, dass dabei „die Schwarzen schlechter abschneiden könnten.“ Und er diagnostiziert als Voraussetzung für die Torwartkarriere „eine besondere Fähigkeit zur Antizipation“ und weiter, dass „das kognitive Tempo auch bei bestimmten anderen, etwas komplexeren Anforderungen möglichst hoch sein“ sollte, Anforderungen also, denen Schwarze offenbar nicht gewachsen sind.

Hat man das nicht immer schon gewusst? Seine Leserschaft versteht ihn, zum Beispiel ein „Gus Schiller“: „Jeder macht halt das, was er am Besten kann. Weiße sind Vorstand, Trainer, Keeper. Schwarze sind Sprinter und braune sind Messerer. So hat jeder seine Aufgabe auf der Welt.“ Oder „L.Bauer“: „Wie in der Studie (sic! T.S:) treffend beschrieben, es fehlt an den kognitiven Fähigkeiten. Die können Marathon laufen, schnell sein, hoch und weit springen, aber für komplexere Dinge sind sie einfach nicht gemacht.“ Für die komplexe Einsicht, dass im hochkomplexen Mannschaftssport Fußball auf allen Positionen Antizipationsfähigkeit ebenso notwendig ist wie ein hohes kognitives Tempo, fehlen dem Hobbysportwissenschaftler Meins und seinen Adepten offenbar die kognitiven Fähigkeiten. Geradezu überfordern würde sie die Einsicht, dass zu viel Nachdenken beim Torwartspiel nur hinderlich sein kann. Ist Nachdenken also etwas, das man bei Weißen seltener findet als die Bereitschaft, Vertretern bizarrer Rassentheorien alles zu glauben, wenn sie ihnen das erzählen, was sie gerne hören wollen?

Esports đã bắt đầu hình thành ở Việt Nam từ cả chục năm trước, nhưng chỉ trong vài năm trở lại đây mới bắt đầu được thừa nhận rộng rãi từ xã hội và nhận sự đầu tư nghiêm túc từ các nhãn hàng, nhà tài trợ, người đầu tư.

Tiến tới kỳ SEA Games 31 diễn ra vào năm 2021, nước chủ nhà Việt Nam đang cân nhắc nâng tổng số môn thi đấu từ 36 lên 40 môn, với 4 môn lựa chọn từ 20 môn thi đấu do các nước thành viên đề xuất. Trong số này, eSports có thể xem là điểm sáng nếu được diễn ra với khá nhiều bộ môn thi đấu thế mạnh, có thể giành huy chương vàng cho thể thao nước nhà.

Liên Minh Huyền Thoại

Việt Nam bắt đầu tham gia giải vô địch thế giới Liên Minh Huyền Thoại từ khá sớm khi Saigon Jokers đại diện cho khu vực khu vực đông nam á tham dự sự kiện lớn nhất của Liên Minh Huyền Thoại tại Los Angeles (Mỹ).

Sau đó, dấu ấn lớn nhất của Liên Minh Huyền Thoại nước nhà chính là việc Việt Nam được Riot Games công nhận là một khu vực riêng và chính thức tách ra khỏi GPL (khu vực đông nam á) vào năm 2018.

Kể từ đó đến nay, người ta được chứng kiến nguồn lực xã hội đầu tư vào Liên Minh Huyền Thoại ở mức độ chưa từng có với những bản hợp đồng, lót tay cho tuyển thủ, những thương vụ đình đám lên tới cả bạc tỷ.

Cùng với đó, trình độ của các đội tuyển cũng được nâng cao nhờ cải thiện cơ sở hạ tầng (gaming house), đội ngũ tuyển thủ, huấn luyện viên chuyên nghiệp hơn, được cọ xát với các đội tuyển hàng đầu khu vực khác.

Thậm chí, các tuyển thủ Việt Nam còn xuất ngoại sang thi đấu ở các nước khu vực đông nam á cho đến lúc giải đấu ở khu vực này bị hủy bỏ để thay thế bằng giải liên khu vực khu vực đông nam á, Hong Kong, Đài Loan.

Có lẽ vì thế, những đối thủ đáng ngại nhất của Việt Nam ở khu vực như Thái Lan hay Malaysia đã suy yếu đáng kể. Cơ hội giành vàng của khách hàng ở bộ môn Liên Minh Huyền Thoại này là rất cao.

Liên Quân Mobile

Tương tự như là trường hợp của Liên Minh Huyền Thoại, Liên Quân Mobile cũng có những bước phát triển thần tốc trong vài năm trở lại đây. Việt Nam đã không chỉ khẳng định vị thế số 1 ở khu vực mà còn trên toàn thị trường quốc tế, nhờ tầm vóc của Team Flash.

Tuy vậy, cú sảy chân ở kỳ SEA Games 30 thực sự là một bước lùi tai hại cho Liên Quân nước nhà. Ở giải đấu quốc tế gần nhất là APL 2020, các đội tuyển đại diện Việt Nam cũng không giành được kết quả tốt.

Đây là hồi chuông cảnh tỉnh mạnh mẽ với Liên Quân nước nhà. Nếu không muốn chứng kiến cảnh người Thái tiếp tục thống trị bộ môn này, các team của Việt Nam sẽ phải tập luyện hết sức nghiêm túc và thi đấu hết mình trong bất kỳ trận đấu nào, dưới bất kỳ hoàn cảnh nào, nhằm chọn ra đại diện ưu tú nhất tranh tài ở các giải đấu quốc tế.
