Small headcanon I just realized has been proven by canon
Had this idea that Steven would be very fussy about using the right ways and terms to talk about DID once he learns more about it, while the other Moon Boys would be... less so
Marc has a lot of internalized ableism and would use ableist terms to talk about their disorder and wouldn't care about it. He'd care that it upsets Steven though, only reason why he'd change how he speaks about it.
And it wasn't just because Steven responded 'I'm not broken I just need help, maybe' to Harrow but also
In the beginning of episode 5
Steven calls it a psychiatric hospital
While Marc calls it a psych ward
And 'psych ward' is outdated and inaccurate
So
CQFD headcanon proven canon

Dear Blue Lock fandom
I’m going on a quest and I’d be happy if some of you decided to join me !
Thing is I just had this very strong urge to uncover what is exactly is Isagi’s neuroatypism. There’s probably not much of a debate regarding whether or not he’s neuroatypical but I want to know how exactly.
My current hypothesis is he has HIP but I need proof to support that claim and I will be rereading all the currently published chapters to fetch some info. If some of you also want to take part, you’re very welcome to do so !
You don’t have to share my hypothesis, you can investigate another one, so long as you have fun it’s great !
I suggest using this tag #isagi yoichi neuroatypism or something similar so we can check all posts regarding this topic
Anyway, time to go into hyperfixation instead of doing my job

I made an online friend recently who’s around the same age I was when I got diagnosed. He’s bright, inquisitive, creative, and he will always do what is just, no matter the consequences. He’s realizing that he relates a lot to someone who’s openly Autistic, and it’s definitely way too scary to think about for him right now, just like it was for me.
We’d gone our whole lives knowing there’s something off about us, and deep down we both knew the one diagnosis that we dreaded the most was the answer. It meant that, fundamentally, at our core, there’s no fixing us. We’re trapped in a car with the brakes cut, doomed to be mocked forever.
But, since we’ve been talking, when I begin to dig my nails into my skin and pull my hair and taste my blood, I ask myself- would I ever dare to hurt him like I hurt myself? Would I pass to him the scourge, the discipline I use to atone for my social sin? Will I pass this self-hatred, or break the cycle?
There’s no cure for what we are. But if we can be gentler to ourselves, then that makes living through the rest all the more tolerable.

thoughts on writing non-neurotypical characters that I am suddenly having looking at the two protagonists of trash novel of, like. there definitely is something to be said about knowing that you want to write a character who is [x], and carefully researching it, and reading about people’s lived experiences to get a sense of what to include, and finding an [x] beta reader; the whole standard process of respectfully portraying something that you are not. that is great and more authors should definitely do that.
but there’s also something that is highly accurate about going “okay this person is fucking weird in [a],[b],[c] ways and cool here are some of the rules of how their brain and emotions work enough that I can write them consistently, fuck if I know what they’d be diagnosed as, they mostly fit the list of [x] I guess but there are some symptoms I you could argue fit way better from [y] thrown in there and then [z] isn’t on any diagnosis list” bc, like. tbh, that is a lot more accurate to the general experience of being neuroatypical, No One Fits Their Diagnosis Checklist Perfectly And There Is A Lot Of Overlap And A Lot Of Things That Don’t Make It Onto The Lists Bc Tbh Are Granular Enough To Be Personal

Camp Damascus was amazing! I love it as a horror novel, as a queer experience and just as a thing I put in my brain this year. It was one of the best.
It was also a huge watershed moment for me in my neuroatypical existence, as I kept going "But this is just normal, right" to the autistic signs of the main character. Like. I've known I was in the spectrum for a long time, but this experience really put it into perspective.
Also gave it to a friend who's been so happy and felt so seen by the autistic behaviour of the main character. They texted me about it every time it sparked joy, and it's been beautiful to experience.
So, thank you so much! Thank you so, so much, for both our thrills and joys of this horror rollercoaster!
thank you buckaroo this is a very kind gift to receive i am so thankful and honored that you and your bud have seen yourself in this story. i am honored to create an autistic hero who is not beholden to her neurodivergent way in some tragic fashion. it is just a part of her trot like it is just a part of OUR trot.
i think my horror stories connect with specific buckaroo groups because they are honoring these experiences in a way that is more than just surface level. it is fascinating to see the way CAMP DAMASCUS resonates with autistic vs neurotypical buckaroos differently (not bad or good, just different). same can be said for the way STRAIGHT resonates with queer buckaroos vs straight cis buckaroos differently. i think BURY YOUR GAYS will resonate with buckaroos involved in fandom as well as ace buckaroos in a different way than those who do not have this trot (and honestly just queer buckaroos in general are going to like bury your gays it is pretty universal to this experience)
but that is just art i guess, it is a wonderful little mirror that reflects us all in different ways, and it can be so POWERFUL to finally see yourself in that reflection
i am so honored to be a part of this experience for you, thank you bud you have proven love to me today

43: Sexiest person that comes to my mind immediately
Knee jerk reaction was "Elementary" version Sherlock Holmes.
Not in the sense that I'm DTF but more in that he's a compassionate earnest and intelligent character with a strong sense of justice who grows from mistakes and demonstrates respect and admiration for sex workers queer people neuroatypical folks and turtles, and I find that incredibly attractive

Recap of Cassandra Clare’s YALC panel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1)Cassie always wants to put a name to everything: She wanted to make Ty’s autism very clear instead of casually revealing it years later. Christoper probably has ADHD.
2)Whose POV were sometimes difficult to write? Anna’s because she’s so confident, Alastair’s because he’s so angry, and also Mark’s because he’s been through a lot of trauma.
3)Cassie gets ideas while walking in the woods and listening to music with no lyrics.
4)A fan asked Cassie to write about the Merry Thieves discovering custard cream in 1908, she laughed and wasn’t against it. 😉
5)Cassie wants to do one more short story collection like The Bane Chronicles once The Wicked Powers is done. She has one specific person in mind.
6)Matthew is thinking stuff that Cassie doesn’t want us to know now, it was the same with Ty due to his whole plan in Queen of Air and Darkness. That’s why we don’t have POVs of these two characters. The only time we got Ty’s POV was in Ghosts of the Shadow Market and Cassie consulted neuroatypical writers before writing The Lost World.
7)About The Wicked Powers: Dru goes to Faerie. Ty has to ask Kit for help after something major and bad happened. Kit is the only one who can help and that’s how the boys reunite.
8)If The Shadowhunter Chronicles were food, what would they be? Cassie cannot cook, but her husband Josh can so the answer was a bit difficult for her. She settled on a pie with rhubarb, ginger, turmeric and noodles.
9)Did Cassie ever change a relationship into a completely different direction? At the beginning Cassie meant for Mark and Cristina to be together in The Dark Artifices, but then she was like: “Hey, there’s also Kieran!” and the rest is obviously history.
10)There are lots of reason to be worried about Mathew. [Yep, that’s basically how the panel ended.]

so I'm starting to get fed up with people asking not to use the "danny phantom" tag. I'll continue if I find it relevant because of an argument against it: companies use filters for their studies. They will use the "danny phantom" tag data, they will never take into account the specific crossover tags. it is the same logic as selling tools specific to the disabled (physical; invisible or not, or the various ways of being neuroatypical) to the non-disabled to help their development At the same time, I'm the type to use a lot of variants of tags to express that they're crossovers and I put them first so that they're very visible, even if it means making my tags "interesting" unseen by most people. so yes in the hope of more (good) canon content danny phantom i will continue to use his tags if it is relevant in my post or reblog and here I'm curious if we're like me who thinks the effort to block is worth sending a message of interest to the industry
afterwards it must be said that since the name of a fandom is also that of one of the characters, this does not make things any easier

At first i was annoyed at Fiona because she has the stereotypical autism most representation characters have. But the more i kept watching the more i realised that while she does have that kind of autism, everything else about her is going directly against all the other stereotypes. First of all she's a woman and they gave her "man autism". Then they gave her agency, in several ways. Then they made her attractive on a sexual and romantic level. They also didn't call it aspergers and introduced the term neuroatypical (or at least that was the specific term in the german sub i was watching). And introduced several less well known common traits/realities of autism. So honestly, well done.
And the funniest thing is that while they did give her the stereotypical "can't lie" thing which did annoy me a bit, they had Sherlock explain that. Sherlock, who is also an autistic person, who lies extremely well and all the time in the show. That shit's hilarious.
The agency thing is so important btw, like first of all she explained her autism to the protagonists, not a carer or relative character. Then she didn't even have that warm-and-good-at-human-connection-character at all and represented herself entirely (even her boss who introduced her turned out to be a criminal and was out of the game halfway through the episode). She also took initiative in her interest in Sherlock. She also had an interest in Sherlock. Also her interest was taken seriously and the audience was several times reminded that she was an autonomous adult woman. And her ability to give consent to sex was not questioned. There was even a plot point about that to spell it out. Also she had a sexual interest and took initiative in that, and was seen as sexually desirable as opposed to infantilised. When Joan found out about his crush she teased Sherlock about having a crush on an adult person, not about a crush on someone who isn't fully capable of being an equal partner. She was like "she's highly skilled and obviously very attractive". It's extremely rare that autism and sex are mixed in any way in representation in tv, and certainly not with the autistic person having full agency and not being seen as an autistic person. Quite monumental actually.
I haven't watched her entire arc yet so subject to change potentially, but just wanted to make a post because i was really excited.

HEY im mousetrap.. It's my #1 mission 2 make every character neuroatypical 🎉 it/ver pronouns if u please…
i'll accept characters from hiveswap OR homestuck ; please spell out the disorder isntead of abbreviating (e.g. "obsessive-compulsive disorder" rather than "OCD") so ik what youre talking about ; you can ask for icons OR a drawing OR both (icons will be faster 4 me 2 complete) ;
"how do i ask for a DRAWING of a mental illness D:?"
Like so! "narcissist charun taking pictures of themselves," "attention deficit-hyperactive disorder roxy playing with a tangle," "fozzer with cotard's using makeup to look rotten," etc. (using some of my disorders + coping mechanisms as examples).
don't come into my inbox using the term asperger's okay i'm not at all comfortable with it and your request/headcanon won't be posted. i suggest autistic, autism, or autism spectrum disorder instead
and a small update: i can draw characters with self-harm scars, picking skin/hair, stuff like that no problem. the only thing i won't do is someone actively cutting (or something similar) themself, just for personal reasons.

A Jake and Steven scene this time, with some talk about Jake
We know Steven and Marc are Jewish, because they share the same childhood memories of before Steven's 'birth' (minus Randall...). Jake on the other hand is uh, well nothing. He has no faith.
I have this idea that their brain has been very cruel to Jake in more than one way. Jake doesn't share a lot of memories with them because he 'didn't need them' for what his role was supposed to be.
I don't even know if he got any of their early school memories, and even if he did - he might have forgotten all about them. Contrary to Steven who often fronted in school for Marc (see previous Steven headcanon), Jake barely ever went to school.
So Jake might not even be aware they're Jewish, and might not even know or remember anything from their school days *
.
Little fic scenes time
As stated in my previous metas about Jake, Jake never fronted continously for that long, at most a couple days if even. So he never really had the luxury of figuring out who he was. He just knew he wasn't Marc. So he didn't disrupt Marc's life that much, or change anything about the body, he didn't see the point of doing that.
.
Now that they were letting him front for longer, he could figure out what his aesthetics were. In addition to that hat, he tried to grow a mustache. Both Steven and Marc were against it. So he had to get a fake one. It looked real enough.
There was this necklace the body was often wearing. Jake looked at it in the mirror. It reminded him too much of Marc, he didn't really like it. So he took it off in one tug and left it on the drawer.
.
** A day or so later, Steven is fronting **
Steven : 'Layla, do you know what happened to our star of David necklace ?'
Layla, coming into the bedroom : 'No, what happened?'
Steven: 'It's broken !'
Steven showed her the necklace in his hand, it was indeed broken.
Steven : 'Did Marc break it ?'
Layla : 'I don't remember if he did, maybe ? Wouldn't he have told you ?'
Steven : ' He would, he knows we both care about it, he wouldn't just pretend nothing happened to it...'
Layla : 'Then if it's neither of you...maybe it's Jake? He did front yesterday.'
Steven : 'I'll ask him.'
Steven manipulated the golden chain one last time with saddened eyes.
Layla : 'It can be repaired I'm sure', she said rubbing Steven's back for comfort.
.
** Later that day in their innerspace **
Steven : 'Jake, did you break our necklace?'
Jake : 'What necklace?'
Steven : 'The star of David one !'
Jake : '???'
Steven : 'this one !' Steven showed an exact replica which appeared in his hand.
Jake : 'Oh! Hm, I took it off.'
Steven : 'By breaking it !?'
Jake : '...yeah, sorry'
Steven : 'Look, this necklace is important to Marc and I. If you don't want to wear it it's fine, but next time can you take it off normally ? I'll get it repaired.'
Jake : 'Sure, no problem. Sorry again, I didn't think it would upset you.'
Steven : 'Just don't break our stuff again okay ?'
Jake : 'Got it.'
.
** Another day, in their bedroom **
Jake : 'Layla! Can you take this off ?'
Layla got out of her sitting position on the bed and walked to him. Jake pointed at the golden necklace on his neck.
Layla : 'gimme a few seconds', she opened the chain's lock, 'here you go'.
Jake : 'thanks'
Layla was about to delicately place the necklace on the nightstand when a thought crossed her mind.
Layla : 'Do you know how to take off a necklace?'
Jake : 'yeah...sure...I...do'
Layla giggled : 'you don't know how !'
Jake : 'Look, it's not like it's in my job description okay. I had other stuff to think about.'
Layla : 'relax, I'm poking fun', she said still giggling, 'here let me show you.'
.
Tl;dr Jake pulled on the chain because he didn't know how to take off a necklace.
Jake is quite an interesting character, he's very knowledgeable in some stuff, but then isn't aware of very basic things. He's rarely a dick on purpose (except to Marc just for the fun of annoying him) he just has a lot left to learn.
If Jake doesn't know/remember much about basic schooling, Steven will teach him. Steven will also happily teach him about Judaism. I think Steven would make a good teacher, and he'd enjoy it.
.
* putting this part at the end for cw abuse
There's a way more crushing aspect of it too. I think Jake might not even have been aware who that woman torturing him was, until Marc told him, the only time they spoke when they were children. And then Marc completely forgot about that interaction. But Jake didn't. As Steven was who got Marc to keep going, Marc was the one who got Jake to keep going. What he was going through wasn't completely senseless anymore - it was still completely unjustified evil and cruel - but Jake wasn't completely lost about it anymore.

PSA I guess cause I got an ask that confused me a little:
I am not writing Billy and Stu as psychopaths or as having personality disorders. I never have been and thats very much not the intention. I have specifically argued that they are not in multiple posts (you can search aspd in my tumblr to find those posts if you want).
I don’t actually think these descriptors fit them well, Autism and ADHD + being shitty people fits better even if they have some traits in common, lots of diagnosis share traits and that’s why it’s important to take time and be careful when assigning labels.
No disorder is required to explain their behaviour. Mental health/personality disorder/ neuroatypicality does not cause violence. In many cases these populations are less likely to hurt other people, and it’s very much not my intention to perpetuate the idea that we’re dangerous. People do shit things because they do shit things, not because of a diagnosis.
I’m an autistic person with a special interest in horror and gore. I am not violent, I do not want to hurt anyone and I am only a danger to myself when I’m not doing well. I know the stigma around people like me and people with personality disorders and I want it to be super clear that’s not what I’m doing with these characters AT ALL.
Billy’s autism explains his special interests and his social behaviour, NOT the murder and manipulation.
Stu’s ADHD explains his impulsivity and intensity, IT DOES NOT EXPLAIN THE MURDER.
Neither of them is a psychopath or has a personality disorder as I have written them and it’s important to me to make that very clear.

Hi again! I was wondering how long it usually takes you to write a chapter. You're a very productive writer and my brain being neuroatypical mess (affectionate) I usually end up writing 300 words, then I have to do some deeply random tasks before going back to writing.
I'm not asking this in order to compare myself to others but just to have an idea of how long it takes you + how you organise yourself around writing 😊
Thank youuuu (currently starting There is a light & it never goes out)
Hi and thanks for the ask and the ridiculously lovely words about my work 🫠
It really depends on the chapter, which I know is a shitty answer so I will try to elaborate - when I first started writing Dont Fall Away From Me, a chapter would take me 3-6 hours. But this was because it was entirely train of thought whirlpool of emotions writing. The chapters I am writing now have taken me a solid 5-6 days each, because I'm now in a position of trying to resolve everyone's character arcs and make sure I've left no plot holes open or stories unfinished.
I also have the added pressure of having a much larger following and readership than I had when I began, and people will lie and say it makes no difference but it does. I have the Pit in my head telling me everything I write isn't good enough, that people won't like it...
So I change things, sometimes do a complete rewrite (Ch 34 didn't look anything like that when I wrote it the first time), sometimes again and again. It's frustrating.
All I will say is, make yourself write. I have Autism and ADHD and struggle too, but after doing Neil Gaiman's masterclass (which I highly rexommend), his one bit of advice was just to keep writing, even when you don't want to, even when it's bad. You can always take those bones and add the meat later.
Hope this was in any way helpful.
I look forward to seeing writing from you in the future 🤩😊

closing out Pride by reposting this art of twelve canonically, explicitly and unambiguously queer characters from Glory in the Thunder, plus however you want to categorize a sexless artificial murder-construct (aroace fempunk?)
You should read Glory in the Thunder which is posting serially twice a week, almost every noteworthy character is queer and/or neuroatypical in some way (including, SURPRISE FROM YOUR LOCAL DID-DIAGNOSED AUTHOR!, multiplicity) and they all make such a glorious mess of their relationships

GAP the Series ep 5 thoughts (spoilers!!)
WANNA SUCK MOUTH !!!
Gonna rush through this post b/c we watched late and I gotta go to bed, but it's still VERY important to me to journal my way through this show, because, wow wow wow WOW, this show, dude.
Wanna suck mouth!!!
Wanna suck mouth.
Seriously though. The mouths, the lips, the lip-biting, the pen-biting, the teeth, the lipssss, the queer lady gaze of it all. Hottest first kiss I've seen maybe ever??, while simultaneously the most joyful and character-specific. Extremely good stuff.
But besides the absolute sexy excellence of all things Lips in the episode, the crux of this week for me was Mon's demand that Sam be direct, stop giving her a headache from trying to interpret all her opaque Sam-isms... and Sam demanding the same thing of Mon. Both because 1) I love the acknowledgment that graceful social butterfly Mon is probably just as confounding to Sam as vice versa - they communicate differently, not unevenly, and there's a point about neurotypical vs. neuroatypical communication to be made here, but basically it's not that either of them isn't trying, with all her smitten might, to understand and make herself understood AND 2) we got so many clear-cut examples throughout the episode of Sam doing the absolute most to be direct, before Mon ever requested it of her. "Some married man 😤 was flirting by sending you stickers? I sent you stickers!!!" "What is your favorite facial feature of mine? Jsyk my favorite of yours is LIPS. Can I BITE THEM." Lol she was pulling out all the stops!! I just feel like for the first time we really see the layer of the relationship where Sam is trying to express her feelings for Mon, trying to shout them from the rooftops even, but she's not being heard, and it isn't solely because she's repressed and socially awkward but because you put "I, your vaunted idol, want to fuck nasty" in Mon's face and Mon will find an "innocent" explanation to hear instead. Idk it's prob too late at night for me to express this well but I just think this show does a lot of really neat nuance work, while remaining impossibly adorable and funny and sexy and entertaining at the same time.
Like I'll try to say this fast but Sam vs. Nop is one of the best dreamiest things I've ever seen fr, and there is so much about how Sam confronted him and tried to set up a chance for Mon to confront him that speaks to what Sam values in communication, and how burdensome and arbitrary she finds social niceties. AND re: nuance work, I loved it because they let Sam make explicit what Nop has been doing, ignoring every single time Mon tells him she's not into him (because she has told him! onscreen!), with an expectation that he can wear her down over time, exploiting the misogynist social role Mon's trapped in. It is so badass that Sam calls that out, it is so badass that the narrative calls that out! I have so much hope and expectation for everything unspoken right now (forbidden workplace romance, fiance?, what Mon's headspace is re: "friends" playing the lip-biting game) because of these sorts of moments. I really believe this series knows what it's doing, has plenty to say and a deft touch when it comes to saying it, and that's exhilarating.
Quick other things: Loved when Sam got jealous of the prawns for stealing her girl's attention. How long before she asks "Would you love me if I was a worm?" and makes herself jealous of Sam the worm...
I just want to do a very clear shout-out to "What is your favorite facial feature of mine? I'll trade you a bite for a bite" as a flirtation strategy. Like I've been calling Sam a disaster lesbian but that is a move.
Laura and I agreed Sam had major Kim Theerapanyakul vibes in the very first scene, showing up to inflict jealous, unnecessary violence against friends, and then yell "Goodbye forever!!!" when questioned on her embarrassing behavior. Luckily for her Mon apparently will always text first :')
I loved Sam's tie necklace. Very sexy.
What other substances can be applied to and then bitten off lips? Let us brainstorm together, tumblr. Ep 1, Ep 2, Ep 3, Ep 4

"not cishet" So does all the stuff he's made featuring Lumity Raeda Veesha and Aladarius not count?
Of course it counts. But. Nothing he's made gives me the impression he knows what being non-cishet is actually like. Like most of his stuff, it's all surface-level. Because being queer is not just fluff and maybe being slightly nervous you'll mess up your coming out. Maybe for the Boiling Isles ships this isn't an issue, but on Earth... there's a lot of baggage and community that comes with being queer. Because if your coming out turns out badly, the worst that could happen is not awkwardness, it is that you could literally die. We see jokes and funny coming outs here on tumblr, but that is with kids who are 100% sure that their parents will accept them. If there's even slightly a doubt, that is dangerous. I am fortunate that my parents have just been happy to completely forget that I'm nonbinary. Other people I know have been kicked out of their houses and are no longer in contact with their parents. Queer people gravitate to each other because community is rare and difficult to find. Morningmark doesn't get that, but he also doesn't get any in-jokes or any indication of the sheer relief living on the Boiling Isles would be to a young queer person. Here's a hint: homophobia is not some guy saying rudely incorrect things to the lesbian couple so that a straight guy can make them go away, or whatever trope Morningmark comes up with next. Homophobia is the politician passing laws to legislate you out of existence. Homophobia is the preacher telling your parents that you are a sinner if you accept who you are. Homophobia is the proud boys showing up with guns to your storybook hour. Homophobes are common, and they are not people you can reach with kindness or epic owns.
And being queer is fighting that. It's finding community with every queer person you can find. It's finding refuge from an unaccepting world with the people you meet who will accept you. It's in-jokes, found family, and deep friendship. It is deeply rewarding to be queer, but it is scary.
It's frankly quite insulting that Morningmark keeps insisting that Luz becomes friends with her bullies. Because Luz was canonically bullied for traits common to queer and neurodivergent (I could talk about that too; awkwardness and nerdiness do not a neurodivergent character make and Morningmark doesn't understand this either), insisting that her bullies think her girlfriend is awesome or like her palisman or whatever is, quite frankly, insulting. They hated her for those traits; you're saying that the solution to queerphobic, ableist bullying was to get more queer and more obviously neuroatypical? She should become more queer and more obviously neuroatypical for herself and completely ignore the bullies' attempts to force her back into any box because she doesn't care what they think. And that should be the end. Not everyone will accept you, and that is completely fine.
But nooo, everyone has to accept you! After all, there's no difference between you and straight couples. Love is love. Yaaaaay.
