ehehehe it's actually so funny you picked these and you will see why in the next chapter because i wrote something perfect to go alongside this yesterday. anyway i took the three in one ask request as a challenge to include them all in a single scene. enjoy!

((1. Brushing the other's hair, even long past all the knots are out / 4. Styling the other's hair for them, like braiding it, putting it up, etc. / 7. Hugs from behind, bonus for back-of-neck kisses at the same time))

Long fingers tug gently through the mess of her hair, windswept and awful after the day spent hiking through the endless rains of the Storm Coast, patiently pulling apart soaking braids and knots the size of bird's nests.

Were it her own hands, or Creators-forbid, her keeper, they would move with impatience, tugging through the tangles until fingers were swapped for a comb and gritted teeth. She’d learned to braid her hair, keep it long and tucked up on her head carefully, to avoid spending evenings with pained tears in her eyes as she undid the awful damage of a day spent herding halla or foraging for herbs.

Solas moves through her dark waves with preternatural gentleness, the kind that brings an almost tingling relaxation from her scalp and down her neck as he works, enough to entirely relieve the stress of the day.

“Did you bring a brush?” The question is soft, pressed against her skin just before a kiss meets the space where her neck meets her shoulder, a sweet hum of approval escaping her lover when her breath hitches slightly.

She passes him the fine boar bristle brush Josie gifted her, pulling it from her pack though careful not to pull far enough away to lose the feeling of his lips on her skin. He nips once at her ear before taking it, then begins to carefully work through section by section.

“For a man without hair,” Morinne hums, “you handle it better than anyone I’ve ever known.”

He huffs a soft laugh. “Have you spent this entire time together believing I never had hair, vhenan?”

She considers, smiling, leaning back against him so she might meet his violet gaze in the low candlelight. He’s smirking down at her, kissing her temple, as she says “I suppose I’ve never thought about it actually.”

He clucks to feign insult, then wraps his arms around her middle, the brush lost somewhere behind her and his face burying in her neck. Fingers press into the soft, ticklish sides just below her ribs and she yelps, attempting to pull away while laughing but held tight to him. Peppering kisses along her neck, she can feel his smile in each warm press of his lips as his hands wrap tighter around her and heat the sides of her ribs.

“What was your hair like then?” She asks as one of his hands moves to the base of her skull and massages gently at the lingering tension down her neck. “When you had it?”

Solas pauses, working a knot from her neck before returning to the brush. “Hmm, not quite as long as yours.”

Morinne snorts, “I wouldn’t have thought so.”

“I did keep it to my shoulders for a time,” he says, splitting her hair in three sections and deftly working it into a loose braid down her back. “And brown, though lighter than yours by a great deal.”

“Really?” She hums in surprise and when an extended hand appears at her side, she passes him the leather tie she knows he’s looking for. “I would have guessed red, given all your freckles.”

“I suppose it might have been a reddish-brown in some light,” she feels him shrug against her back, then the end of her hair being tied off and the braid released.

Turning, she looks at him finally, his eyes so soft, so full of peace, a part of her melts at the sight. She wants to curl into him, burrow into his skin to be as close as possible, mold her body around his to love him as thoroughly as he deserves.

“I love the bald, for what it’s worth,” she smiles, raising a hand to his cheek. He raises his in turn, holding her hand in his and shifting his face just enough to press a kiss to the inside of her wrist.

“I love you, ma arasha” he says without hesitation, his empty hand reaching for the end of her braid and tugging once, so gently it barely registers.

“I love you too,” she whispers in return, running her own hand down the braid prepared with more care than she’s ever given herself at this late an hour, “more than you know.”

sometimes I think of all the on-the-surface warm, well-meaning but deeply ineffectual advice and attention john gives harrow through harrow the ninth (make some soup and get some sleep! get a hobby! don't be so hard on yourself! self care harrow! as long as I need take no actual responsibility in this relationship whatsoever I would have loved to be your dad!) set up against the stark truth that with his other hand he has been staging her attempted horrific murder again and again and again like a living nightmare on the logic that it will 'put her down or fix her'. and then I find that I wish there is a hell. a special hell where twitch streamers turned necromantic death emperors go

Remember this post where I talked about how funny Host!Vic’s gender neutrality is? Well now it’s even funnier because this episode seemingly confirmed something I have suspected to be true for a while now, which is that fictional Vic Michealis SOMEHOW DIDNT REALISE THEYRE BI?????

#this is so funny #suspected this because of their interactions with Leighanna and The Fourth Witch #compared to their interactions with male characters #with Leighanna they are obsessed with her they want her so bad but they seem to justify it by wanting to be LIKE her instead #the fourth witch on the other hand? very clearly flirting with them the whole episod #and they just don’t seem to pick up on it #meanwhile you have characters Jordache‚ Dr Milk‚#that frozen guy who’s name I forget #who they very openly flirt with once intrest is shown #and even in this episode I think vic would have reacted quite differently if it was Greg flirting with them #they seem so… hesitant and unsure‚ like they’re trying to reject Charlotte’s advances #which they like NEVER do with male characters‚ this guy wants love so bad #also god. the way they fall for Charlotte and become flattered by her advances as the episode goes on #and you’re just sitting there like. this woman cheated on her husband sixteen times. this will not end well #you just know vic is going to get unbelievabley attached after they hook up and charlottes going to lose intrest within seconds #also I love how Izzy was like ‘ok last time our characters relationship could pass as a friendship so this time I am NOT giving you an out’#god this episode was so good #the last couple haven’t really hit so well for me so this was a lovely reminder of why I love this show #MAN. the implications of this for their relationship with Bianca. they didn’t know. they had no idea.#shitpost #very important people #host!vic #vic michealis #vip #ALSO I believe irl vic prefers the term ‘queer’ over bi judging by that one interview I re read this morning #but I usd bi here because queer in certain contexts can be used for both sexuality and gender identity #so saying ‘they didn’t know they were queer’ might imply they didn’t know they were lgbt at all which clearly isn’t true #also host vic is not real vic so their sexuality could be different #dropout #dropout.tv

do yall ever think about bruce/batman!clone danny standing in front of his bathroom mirror after finding out he was a clone and silently tracing his face. The slope of his jaw and point of his chin. The high angle of his cheekbones and the shape of his eyes, the curve of his brow bones and the shape of his nose. The volume of his hair and the way it curls and gets fluffy when it gets too long.

His hair is black the same way a crow's wing is black. His dad's hair is black the same way a black bear's fur is black. His dad's eyes are blue like the ocean is blue. Danny's eyes are blue the same way a glacier is blue.

His dad has a square jaw and straight flat hair, and he tans and gets a face full of freckles when he's out in the sun for too long. Danny burns like a lobster and his face remains untouched. Danny has a sharp jaw and tall cheekbones, and Sam says when he's not smiling there's almost something regal about him. You would never call Jack Fenton "regal" when he's not smiling.

Sam says when he's not smiling he looks scary the same way a stone statue is. Jack Fenton when he's not smiling looks scary the same way that german shepherd staring at you across the street is.

Do you ever think he grew up wondering if he was adopted. Because of course, he has black hair and blue eyes like his dad. But having the same color doesn't make you someone's child.

Or, worse, things he's heard from the other kids and the other parents and even some of his teachers growing up; that he was the product of an affair. And that his dad was just too stupid to notice. And Danny would defend his parents until the day he died, because Jack Fenton wasn't an idiot and Maddie Fenton wasn't a cheater.

But doubt comes in with fickle tongue. his parents swear up and down that he is their child when he asks about either. That Danny just had his grandparents' features, but he was their son and they loved him.

But Danny doesn't look like either of his parents. His mom's eyes are blue like an aquamarine and Jazz's too. And they burn like lobsters in the sun too, but Jazz gets freckles on her face and so does Maddie. And as Danny grows up he doesn't bulk up or get stocky like his dad did, and when he hits puberty he doesn't shoot up like a tree like Jack Fenton did.

He stays small, and they say he's a late bloomer (and he is), or that he just has his mom's height. But he's fast and has good stamina, and some days it feels like he's built entirely different from his family. That the things they went through growing up just didn't apply to him. Jack and Maddie Fenton both had acne and breakouts when they hit puberty, and Jazz inherits it and he's seen the amount of skincare products she keeps on her side of the bathroom.

And then he hits puberty and breaks out maybe once or twice, but his skin stays clear for the most part and the problems and changes his dad went through just don't happen to him.

And the truth is worse than all of the lies.

How horrifying.

i get the lines blur but there IS a big difference between media which doesn't explicitly tell/show you precisely what happens in the end but does point pretty clearly down the intended road vs legitimate open endings where you're supposed to decide what happens completely on your own and multiple interpretations would be supported

it is funny though how kids' shows are so so so careful about death, no one's ever killed except MAYYYYBE the big bad, all those random side characters are fine, here have a quick shot of them before we leave just so you know they really did survive that 50-foot drop into a stormy sea,

and meanwhile kids' books nearly all agree that it's not an adventure until it has a body count.

Excerpt on Midnight Cowboy from an interview with John Schlesinger in Literature/Film Quarterly, 1978:

Riley: When I've shown the film to students, they have very mixed feelings about the ending. How do you see that? What is that moment to Joe? Is it affirmative, or is it despairing?

Schlesinger: I don't see it as a despairing ending. I feel that it's a catharsis to the whole film. It's a catharsis of a boy who has been lost and who has these strange memories of being picked out for sexual prowess and how important that seemed to him. He has this whole experience of going to New York and finding that the fantasy is total bullshit and that the reality of life there is one of eking out some kind of existence, and then he finds the relationship that he strikes up with Ratso. Some people have said it's a homosexual relationship, but it really isn't per se. It's about the need of one human being for another. I daresay that Ratso- if anybody had found him attractive, man, woman, or dog- would have been anxious to express it physically perhaps. That's why he was so hostile towards it all. But I think that having made a commitment to Ratso, Joe realized the whole ludicrousness of the situation. On the bus he ruminates about the possibilities of what he's going to do, and I think in the back of his mind his taking Ratso to Miami is a kind of gesture. I think he knows it's hopeless. That's what I remember discussing with Jon Voight, that Joe knows they aren't going there for a life together in the future. He knows that Ratso's probably not going to survive the journey. At the end when he sits there with Ratso, I don't think Joe's saying, "Now what am I going to do? I'm lost." I think he's already released himself from the fantasy, he already knows that he's going to be okay.

It certainly never struck me as we were doing it that we were making something that was meant to send the audience out in deep depression feeling that Joe Buck is totally lost, because I don't think he is.

Riley: As a matter of fact, he's saved.

Schlesinger: Yes, and I think he's saved by that relationship, by discovering something about the possibilities of a human relationship in the midst of this very unlikely one. That's exactly what attracted me to the material.
