Ain’t Nothing Going On but the Rent: Part I

After Vecna the government pays for Eddies hospital fees and gives him (and the Party) a VERY generous amount of hush money. He immediately buys himself and Wayne a house in Steve’s neighborhood and makes plans to start courting the Harrington boy. He starts by showering him with expensive gifts of flowers jewelry and clothes. The kinds of gifts he’s seen Steve’s other dates give him. He starts to hope that maybe with his cushy bank account he’s finally worthy of Steve Harrington. He waits nervously for Steve to mention the gifts but he never does. He treats him like normal. Eddie thinks maybe Steve is too shy to talk about courting in public and tries to orchestrate situations where they can be alone, but even then Steve doesn’t mention them. He starts to worry maybe he’s doing it wrong, so he decides to up the anty. When he knocks on Steve’s door the next day, hes in a custom suit holding a huge bouquet of roses and reservations for two at a fancy new restaurant in the city. Steve opens the door with a smile that immediately drops when he takes in the scene in front of him. By the time he meets Eddies eye his expression is masked. That can’t be good. Nerves cause Eddie to rush through his dinner invitation and practically shove the gifts at him. He’s sweating bullets waiting for Steve’s response. The omega doesn’t talk for several minutes and then politely declines. Inside Eddies heart is sinking to his feet but outwardly he’s taking the rejection like champ. He assures Steve that it’s fine, tells him that he’ll see him at the next movie night and practically power walks back to his house. Steve watches him go feeling infinitely disappointed. He’d thought Eddie would be different than the stuffy knot head Alphas his parents throw at him. Clearly money changes people or maybe Eddie just doesn’t know him at all.

LISTENING TO THE GREAT GATSBY MUSICAL RECORDING

AND OH MY GOSH

I love some of the songs more than others, but I mostly want to talk about the differences between Roaring On, New Money, and For Her, and their reprises! Cause Oh My Gosh. (I’m gonna try to explain this the best I can, but words aren’t wording right now-)

First of all, the For Her reprise, chills, and I love how it’s gets darker, more desperate. Gatsby has always been obsessive, but this is taking it to the extreme. Everything was for Daisy, and it got him killed.

I love how they show the party age slowly dying, slowly becoming, for lack of better words, dusty. It’s brutal. You get to the New Money reprise, and it’s more hushed, it’s muted- the sheer vibes it gives off I can’t put into words, but it’s amazing. Another party comes and goes, but there is always another somewhere. Blood has been spilled, but what do they care? They gossip, and move on. There is always different new money elsewhere.

Then Finale: Roaring On. They are still partying, but it’s not bright, it’s not cheerful, it’s more sinister, now that you know. You see Nick. The party is still going on, but it’s no longer enamoring. It’s heartbreaking.

Anyways, I hope that makes sense, and I’m gonna go be emotional about this for a while.

As someone close to to “old money” and “new money” in Europe, I’ve learned a few secrets that I can share with you, especially if you’re trying to navigate these circles.

The trend of “old money” or “quiet luxury” style is everywhere these days. Ladies are flocking to this understated, elegant look, thinking it’s the golden ticket to penetrate old money/HNWI social circles, often driven by the hope of hypergamy.

I'll be honest, even some of my very favorite musicals have songs that make me go "meh" when they come on, but with The Great Gatsby?? No such thing. The past is an absolute rose and you better hold tight because we ride, we ride, we ride, we riiiiiiide!

Evan is rich because his family is old money, his grandparents spoiled him and his sister all the time and after they died, the money was divided between the two of them. And I'm imagining about the same amount of wealth the blacks/malfoys had/have.

Meanwhile Barty is new money because of his father being an influential politician, but he always rejected that wealth and lifestyle, as soon as he turned 18 Barty left to make his own money. But he ended up broke asf pretty fast, even was on the streets for a few days, but then got around by sleeping with people, giving them illegal tattoos and selling drugs.

A few months later, they meet because Barty wanted to get devil horns, and Evan thought that was one of the best things he was told to operate, Evan is a passionate stalker of the patients he finds attractive, so he stalks Barty for many weeks, Regulus even hacks into Bartys bank account so Evan would be able to send him money. After the anonymous donations, Barty tries to find whoever gave him this money, but was unsuccessful.

2 weeks later, Barty's father dies and he inherites the money. More or less having to accept the wealth, Barty gets invited to fancy events in his fathers name, where he meets Evan again. They immediately click after recognising each other and get together soon after.
