𝔊𝔬𝔬𝔡 𝔫𝔦𝔤𝔥𝔱, 𝔪𝔶 𝔡𝔬𝔢
pairing: Alastor x fem!Reader
summary: Alastor comforts his little doe to sleep
warning: none! just some fluff and ooc Alastor:)
Tumblr media
No one knew of Alastor’s little nightly ritual. After everyone went to sleep, he made his way down to the bar for a cold glass of whiskey. To clear his head and have some silence to himself.
Except, he wasn’t alone tonight…
Y/N was somewhat new at the Hazbin Hotel. She arrived in hell confused, disoriented and alone. She was wandering around the Vee tower, when she spotted the commercial on one of the televisions. A shelter she could go to. The Hazbin family took her in quickly and she enjoyed being there, she wasn’t cold, hungry, nor alone anymore. She was a big help to Charlie too, always helping her with the redemption exercises.
Alastor took notice of her the second he saw her. A deer like him, except that he was a big scary buck and she was a lovely doe. He never made a move on her, afraid that he would mess even a tiny bit with her sensitive little heart. But, he would always do little gestures for her. Helping her out here and there, and always stocking up on those little heart shaped chocolates she liked.
But back to tonight.
While he was on his way to the bar, he heard a little sniff from the parlor, he felt his heart tighten when he saw the doe curled up on the couch. Her little fluffy ears were hanging low and her pink nose was twitching sadly.
She didn’t even see the Radio Demon coming down, and her eyes widened when she heard his static voice.
“Is everything alright, my doe?” When she looked up, he was towering over her curled up position, and looking down at her with that lovey-dovey gaze, a rare sight to see.
“I’m okay, no biggie.” She tried to mush a smile onto her face, but he saw right through her.
He took a seat next to her and pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket, handing it to her, which she took gratefully.
“Don’t be shy. Feel free to tell me whatever is hurting your little heart.” When he said this, the dam broke. Her tears started flowing down her cheeks, and her lips were morphed into an adorable pout. “Oh, little doe.” He gathered her up in his arms and put her on his lap, she put her head on his chest. He felt her body shaking as she weeped in his arms.
His clawed hands gently caressed the top of her head, stroking her soft ears that were connected to her fluffy hair.
He spoke again, when her shaking lessened.
“Do tell, my dear, what got you so upset?” He said while he positioned her head, so she was looking up at him.
“I just had a long day. I was out, because Charlie needed more colored pencils and some guy on the street started talking to me.” Her lips wobbled again at the memory.
“What did he say?” He let her rest on his chest, and this way, she couldn’t see the way his face was turning into a more demonic expression. Who dared to h̴̩͛͒͆͑̐̄͂̀͝͝u̵͓͚̖͍͎͒̾̽́̈́̚̚͘ŗ̵̟͚̝͇͗̒̋́́̈́̀́t̵̨̤̺̟̳̝̔́̕͠ͅ ̷͈̩̔̾̐̾͐̂̑̕͜͝͠ḧ̷̨̖̪̲́͂̂̏́̈́̆͝ị̴̧̠̺͉̫͇̞̙̽̈ͅs̴̡̖͓̠͋̓̏̈́̒̕͘ ̶̳̳̘̘͚̭̳̟̪͙̏l̷̬̻̯͉̐̈́̃͘i̵̛̥̞̙̠̪̮̻t̴̡͎̮̬͍̦͕͑̐͗̈́̾̐͝ţ̷͎̥̪̻͕̠͓͉͈̇̈́̈͗̚̚l̴͉̎̿̐̇̆́͒́̆̃e̴͍̣̼̓ ̶̢̗͍̟͈̹̉̉̇͜d̶͙͉̻̗͚̬̦͎̖̖̂̀͊͝ơ̶̛̲̩̻͕̤̙̜̹͓̂͠ͅe̵͙̳̙̻̫̱̅͑͝?
“Disgusting things…”
He leaned back, so she was laying on his lap. With a snap of his fingers, a soft blanket was on her. “Well, you deserve to be treated nicely and gently.” He looked down into her doe eyes. “Don’t listen to those awful people, but if they dare to say another nasty word to you, just tell me. And I’ll make sure they won’t speak another word in their pathetic afterlife ever again.”
She smiled softly and snuggled between his shoulder blade and neck. She spoke with a sweet whisper. “Thank you, Alastor, truly.”
“No need, as I said, you deserve all the lovely things.” Her soft hair was tickling his neck, and he found himself nuzzling more into it.
“Sleep now, I’ll make sure to guard your dreams.” But he realized that her face was already relaxed and her breaths were even. He planted a kiss on her head, and her ears flattened from the softness of his lips.
“Good night, my doe.”
Yes, tomorrow he will make sure to find that bitch that disrespected her and hunt him down.

Only Hope (!) calls you out like that…
Since I’m currently in the process of writing the mother of all “H/hope in the Sandman”-metas, just a couple of random panels about Hope, Dream and Desire. This one, obviously everyone talks about quite often…
Tumblr media
And this is doubly important since this happens after a certain 1889 meeting, but before the fishbowl. So Dream didn’t have the experience of being captured yet that furthered his change. And yet, his reaction to her is very different than the reaction to Hob (also: Can we talk about the symbolism in Hope reaching out her hand, touching him and his allowing it?). Because she is Hope.
(And innocence I dare say—she is a child for a reason.)
But the panel hardly anyone ever talks about is this one:
Tumblr media
That’s Hope saying the exact same thing to Desire. And they have the same reaction. And she calls them out on their bullshit in exactly the same way. (And again, can we talk about the symbolism in asking Hope to join you and her replying she will come with you? That’s more than just the obvious “We’re saving the universe and you stand for the afterlife”, which is also a biggie, but that’s for the other meta). Because she is Hope.
Both Dream and Desire are so lonely (I’d hazard a guess she could say this to all the Endless btw). And they both cope with it in such maladjusted ways. But they let a child call them out like no one else is allowed to call them out. They bristle, but they don’t overreact like they do with others (especially Dream). Because she is Hope.
(And all of that’s to say: She is the personification of H/hope, not any of the other side-characters that commonly get hope projected on them. And D/dream(s) are hopes and always will be because she touches/d them.)

I watched Ghosts Season 3 Episode 2 earlier today!! Some quick thoughts :D
Poor Jay 😭😭💔 he really didn't deserve what he was going through this episode :(( but I'm glad Sass and him are actually gonna be dream friends, it's gonna be great :')). It'll be soo nice for him to actually be able to connect with them a little more :'D. Also it's wild to me to actually realize that he knows what Sass actually looks like now lol. Like I said, wild xD. Anyway, I'm glad everything worked out in the end :'))
SASS'S GHOST POWER IS SO COOL!!?!??! Bro casually hid the coolest ghost power ever for his entire afterlife xD no biggie. Lol, it was really cool to see though! And I'm glad he's hopefully no longer using it for evil lol (most of the time)
Sam was being wild for using Sass's ghost power against Jay xd. I'm glad it was a smaller thing though, and that she learned her lesson. Also Isaac just vibing and following her around all Wednesday was great xD
Speaking of poor Jay, poor Thor 😭. Man was being seduced from all sides and half of them just wanted to be sucked off xdd. It was hilarious though lol xD. And poor Trevor 😭. Man was also going through it. And LOL Alberta not even being phazed by them still being together xD. Barely shocked lol. I am surprised Trevor revealed it so easily though! Anyway, hopefully they're okay xdd. Hetty was on one this episode lol (as she often is though, like they all are, so yk xD). Anyway, I'm glad in the end they did just listen to Thor :'). Poor guy is going through it and I'm glad they're there for him <33.
Also, once again with the poor xD, poor Pete just trying his best to be morally upstanding this episode lol. My guy was doing his darndest, and if it wasn't admirable xd. Good job, Pete, lol, even amongst all the drama xD.
Loved this episode!! I thought it was great, and it was a really fun watch :D. Sasappis's ghost power is SO COOL and I hope we get to see it more in the future :D - for less selfish/manipulative reasons, obviously lol. I also think the way it was done was really cool! Also, it took me a while to realize that it worked because Jay wouldn't/didn't recognize Sasappis lol xD. I think before he said that but I'm not sure lol. Anyway, really enjoyed the episode!!
See you next time for Season 3 Episode 3: He Sees Dead People!!

About Klemper☃️
Tumblr media
Backstory:
https://dnpanimationstudioclone.tumblr.com/post/688965681439457280/klemper-backstory
There's been a lot of criticism of Klemper's portrayal. Many finding it making fun of disabled or the "weird" kids.
I want to keep his motive, wanting to make friends and expand on that. His whole life, he was ostracized for not fitting in due to his disability, and even now as a ghost is lonely. Many of the ghosts avoid him due to his ice powers and since most are from older times, don't understand how to really talk to him.
Klemper's a pretty cool guy, literally. He's very sweet and would love nothing more than someone to just chill and play with him in the snow. With that said due to his undersensitivity to snow and strong powers, most steer away from him, leaving him usually alone and get lost in his own Winter Wonderland. Because he didn't know for a while he was dead and how strong his powers can be, if not careful can easily cause an ice age.
When he meets Danny and gets better support, gets to know the other ghosts better and learns how to control his ice powers better, he's always happy to join in on stuff and see where his afterlife will take him, as long as he gets to do it with friends.
Personality
Sweet, compassionate, warm hearted, cheerful, playful, affectionate, socially akward, honest, starry eyed, loyal, trusting, perhaps way too trusting, timid, insecure, emotional, sensitive and tends to get lost in hid own world.

Headcanon VA-Josh Gad(Olaf, Frozen), Eugene Mirman(Gene Belcher, Bob's Burgers), Nancy Cartwight(Chuckie Finster, Rugrats), EG Daily(Tommy Pickles, Rugrats), Brandon Mychal Smith(Rottmnt Mikey), Kate Micucci(Webby Vanderquack, Ducktales), James Corden(Biggie, Trolls).
Is Neurodivergent. Autism♾️
Abilities- Cyrokinesis, can glide place to place, friendly, make and animate snow to his will, can produce a lot of snow and ice and shape it, especially in very low tempature conditions, undersensitivity to cold(can be an advantage and problem), can remove his limbs and body parts, welcoming personality, compassionate, great snow man maker and greater hugger.
Weaknesses- Has trouble controlling powers when emotionally distressed, panicking, tends to get lost in his own world, overly trusting, not good in hand to hand combat, not a good liar, can lose his parts unwillingly, doesn't do well under pressure, has trouble with social cues, reading people and communication, sensitive to things such as noises, brightness, etc, hypersensitivity to heat, will melt and lose his powers.
Likes- Snow, anything snow related, winter, being outside, penguins, the cold, friends, the night, stars, white, blue and pink, Danny, Jazz, Sidney, Ember, Johnny 13 + Kitty, Cheese, smores, Baked Alaska, cartoons, Hannah Barbera cartoons, comic strips, Charlie Brown, ASMR, fondue, houerderves, hot chocolate, peppermint, music boxes, snowglobes, warm hugs and being with someone.
Dislikes- Heat, Ember's fire, yellow snow, loud noises, having to go to sleep, unspecific instructions, looking too deep into tie-dye, road salt, being in crowds, people ruining his snowmen, thinking about his past, people judging him and being mean about him being disabled, seeing his friends hurt and being alone.
His hat was a gift from his grandfolks.
Fav holiday- Christmas
Fav movie-Frosty The Snowman☃️
Only recently found out he was dead.
Doesn't sleep a lot. Has trouble due to his autism.
Like Sid doesn't like to talk about his past too much, especially about his family.
Knew Spectra as kids.
His family was pretty well off💲
Makes snowman to keep him company. He's able to animate them and have them do what he wants but they don't have free will or any sentience. It's something he's sadly aware of hence why he's always looking for real friends.
What do u think? I'd love to know💖

❝ haikyuu boys reacting to getting headlice ❞
Tumblr media
an - i couldnt possibly tell you where the motivation to write this came from but here you go
Tumblr media
HINATA SHOUYO
-> he doesn’t care. they’re little bugs living rent free in his head? who is he to kick them off his head when they’ve probably settled, made a nice home and got a growing family started? considerate king but disgusting
KAGEYAMA TOBIO
-> disgusted. but also thinks just a few rinses of water will do the trick. he doesn’t understand he’s actually got to get in there and pull them out. miwa is horrified walking into the bathroom to see tobio leaned over the bath with a tub full of cold water he’s ultimately wasted. he’s lucky miwa knows what she’s doing
TSUKISHIMA KEI
-> no mercy. rips the little mfs off his head like nobodies business. his brother can only stare in awe and disturbance. kei isn’t scared over a few bugs they’re only a minor annoyance. he won’t tell a soul he had headlice though and if anyone were to snitch on him, he’d probably shake a few off his head and onto yours.
YAMAGUCHI TADASHI
-> stressed. his hairs kinda long so they’re a pain the ass to get out some may think he’d be a little hesistant to tackle them alone but yams has several lice killing lotions in his bathroom ready to use. he is sympathetic but no way is he letting little bugs crawl around his head while he’s around tsukki
TANAKA RYUUNOSUKE
-> the bugs don’t even get to step on this kings prestine head,, next caller !!
NISHINOYA YUU
-> merciless. who tf do these bugs think they are stepping onto his territory? feral. probably put a few in a jar after pulling them out to bark at them and show them that they’ve crossed the line stepping onto his head
ASAHI AZUMANE
-> have sympathy for the guy they’re gonna be a nightmare for him. more upset than anything. now he’s being reduced to being ridiculed by tiny ass bugs too? give the guy a break. gets them out within the first day because he’s not going to suffer longer than he has to and continues doing the treatment for the rest of the week even though they’re certainly long gone
SUGAWARA KOUSHI
-> brutal. like tsukki he’s got no shame in just ripping them out. suga is the type of guy to catch spiders and gently let them out the window and not kill them. lice don’t get that treatment from him. will straight up throw them down the drain and smirk in the process
DAICHI SAWAMURA
-> just another minor occurrence for him. he’s got short hair it’s no biggie. will probably get his mother to help just to make sure he does it right but overall he’ll get rid of them effectively and quickly you wouldn’t even be able to tell he had them in the first place
KINDAICHI YUUTAROU
-> good. he deserves them. maybe this will teach him to get a good haircut. at least the lice like your cut g
KUNIMI AKIRA
-> tortures them after. probably wets a paper towel to keep them stuck to and jabs at them with a thin needle after he’s got them out. sadist little bitch probably has a deadpan expression while doing it too. the lice fear him across the country and avoid him from now on
KYOTANI KENTARO
-> again he’s got short hair so they’re not too big of a pain to get out but why the hell did they have to pick his head? probably picks them out and just throws them wherever he has no regard for where they land and who might catch them from him
HANAMAKI TAKAHIRO
-> little bugs are just chilling no biggie. probably tells the team he’s got them and shakes his head near them to piss them off. oikawa keeps his distance approximately 5 metres and refuses to be included in any rotation makki is in during practice. even after he gets rid of them he doesn’t tell the team and continues shaking his head near them just to ‘keep them on their toes’
MATSUKAWA ISSEI
-> won’t tell anyone other than makki. the two probably pick them out and throw them in oikawas direction leaving their captain confused as to why the hell the two of them keep throwing ‘nothing’ at him. probably gets rid of them within a week and sleeps with a shower cap on so they don’t touch his pillow, that’s his only rule while they spend their vacation on his head
IWAIZUMI HAJIME
-> isn’t scared of no bugs. probably would keep one and press it down just to stick in his childhood bug diary and sneers at how inferior the lice is compared to the other cooler bugs he’d caught before. his hairs short so again it’s not a huge issue for him. he’ll get rid of them quickly and effectively without too much hassle
OIKAWA TOORU
-> screams. begs iwa to take them out for him insisting that it’s his hobby but iwa rejects and leaves oikawa to handle it alone. oikawas sister dips as soon as she finds out and oikawa believes this is the end of his life. after a week of moping and being a brat, iwa gives in and sorts it out for him to finally give him a peace of mind.
LEV HAIBA
-> never had lice before and is genuinely interested rather than concerned. where did the little bugs come from? why do they like his hair so much? is he the chosen one? probably let’s them live on his head for a while until they become infuriatingly itchy and yaku finds out he’s been letting a cult of lice live on his head and forces him to get treatment
KOZUME KENMA
-> thinks bleach with solve it. everyone who hates kenma’s dark roots better be ready for them to go because he will just bleach the shit out of his hair and assume it’s killed them all. for the next few months his hairs gonna be nice but he’ll let his roots grow out again and you’ll secretly hope for him to catch lice again just so he’ll touch up his damn roots again
TAKETORA YAMAMOTO
-> it’s the blonde mohawk that’s the issue. why tf did he have to make his hair to awkward to work with. doesn’t take him long to get out but he probably picks them out walking home from practice or school and just chucks them in bushes or drains he walks past
MORISUKE YAKU
-> you really think he’s about to let some stupid bugs live on his head and not pay rent? absolutely not. has several different brands of lice treatment lotion and uses at least 4 in one go. that amount of chemicals probably isn’t good for you in one go but his only goal is to kill the lice which he achieves. these bugs are mercilessly killed, revived and killed again all in one treatment session
KUROO TETSURŌ
-> this hurt to write knows exactly how to kill them and won’t hesitate in doing so. by that i mean he’s going straight to his grandmother to do it for him because as much as he knows about treatment and such, nobody does anything better than his grandmother and he’ll sit in a chair with a towel around his neck chattering on about his day as his poor grandmother slaves over his head ripping out the stupid bugs from his inconviently styled hair. kuroo’s lucky his grandmother knows he’s her boy
AKAASHI KEIJI
-> bless his soul he’s horrified. disgusting little creatures, believes they’re vermin of the world. mutters in disgust at them as he watches them drown in the pool of water in his bathtub sink eventually sending them down the drain where he hopes they suffer a painful afterlife
KONOHA AKINORI
-> he’s grossed out but doesn’t make a huge deal about it. probably violates himself and gives himself the nickname ‘nitty nori the bug explorer’. he can take a joke and get rid of them in the same week. ugh king shit
BOKUTO KOUTARŌ
-> pain in the ass. he’s excited about these bugs but also worried? do they want to suck his blood? will they crawl into his ears at night? his sisters are the ones responsible with dealing with them and the whole time he’s asking a abundance of random questions regarding the lice and why they chose his head to make their residence
TENDŌ SATORI
-> probably sings at them to make them uncomfortable as he pulls them out. his fingers work magic as he flawlessly picks them out and sends them on their way down to the depths of the drain. the last thing these bugs hear is the terrifying voice of the man who mercilessly sent them to their death beds
USHIJIMA WAKATOSHI
-> his hairs short it’s okay it’s not the end of the world but rather than killing them he believes they have more use to them. he’s going to throw them in this soil in the garden and assume they work the same miracles worms do. he’ll be disappointed to know that they had no effect on his soil and he wasted his damn time making sure to evenly spread them out of the compost heap
MIYA OSAMU
-> will eat with a hat on. if these bugs are gonna live on his head no way is he sharing his food too. they’ve already taken enough from him. atsumu probably bullies him for his lice but freaks out when osamu tells him that because they’re twins, the lice will seek out his head too and they’ll both be infected. he only survives the short period of time with his lice because of the amusement he gets from watching atsumu consciously stay away from him even to the point where atsumu moves onto the couch. maybe he should let the lice vacate a little longer next time
MIYA ATSUMU
-> hates them. calls them every name under the sun but doesn’t actually effectively try to get rid of them. he doesn’t actually know how to get rid of them but is too embarrassed to admit it so he just lives with it. luckily, the lice decided to move in a few days before his hair was due for a touch up so like kenma, he just bleached the shit out of them and it seems to do the trick. it would be concerning had his hair not needed a touch up though who knows how long he would’ve had them.
SUNA RINTARŌ
-> his little sister notices his hand scratching his head constantly and begins to refer to suna as ‘nit boy’ and only ‘nit boy’. he doesn’t really care at first because surely a single shower will do the trick but his sisters provoking gets so annoying he just ends up treating them 7 times over but not before threatening to leave a few dead ones on his sisters pillow if she doesn’t stop calling him names
ARAN OJIRO
-> again, the lice don’t even get to step on his head. they see aran and they respect him. he seems like a nice and reliable guy so why would they go to the efforts of bothering him? probably nod their tiny ass antennas from atsumu’s hair and let aran go about his day in peace
KITA SHINSUKE
-> lice simply don’t exist in kita’s presence. the second a lice stepped foot on kita’s head, he senses it and ripped the mf off before it could even find a nice area to settle. lice keep away from kita at all times and never intend on crossing paths with him
KIYOOMI SAKUSA
-> an indescribable level of disgusted. refuses to accept it at first, insists that lice simply wouldn’t have been able to touch his head but alas he is wrong. tempted to shave his hair off but then again why should he have to suffer just because some stupid bugs said so. has no mercy, will treat his hair every day for the next month and a half and cusses the bugs out as they fall down the drain

Me, trying to work on this god damn heaven coda so I can put 15x20 to bed and never think of it again:
My brain: How awkward is this "new and improved" open plan heaven going to be? Bobby implied that John and Mary live together but in dsotm they were separated even before all the trauma they each have and they both lived separate lives without the other by the time they died? Do they know the angels sent literal cupids to set them up on Chucks orders? Do they know them bumping uglies was mandated by heaven to start the apocalypse? Does Mary know about Adam and his mum, does John know Mary shacked up with an alternate universe version of Bobby fucking Singer? Is there gonna be one really weird thanksgiving or Christmas or whatever random heaven holiday where John is like 'hey, Dean, I'd like you to meet my father--' and Dean is all 'hey, Henry, jump outta any closets lately, I know I have! And hey we took care of abaddon for you man no biggie'? Are the Campbell there? What does Deana murdered-by-a-demon Campbell think of her husband betraying his own grandchildren for the king of hell? Does Samuel like John more or less as a hunter than as a civvie? Is Christian in heaven? Christian was a dick! What about the one female cousin who was weirdly into Dean? Pretty sure incest is a sin unless you're c*w. Does Dean take Bobby to the bunker, because og Bobby never saw the bunker!, only to find it full of random old white dudes doing occult science experiments and cross species war crimes? Is josie sands there and Dean can't look her without feeling physically ill? Does Jimmy novak get weird that Dean is basically banging a copy of his middle-aged body? Does Amelia? Do the AU hunters have any family in this universes heaven? Does Victor Hendrickson hunt Dean down the minute he hears he's dead because Dean said he'd explain all the bumps in the night and then Victor died but, shit, he still wants answers? Is Kelly Kline there? Like, yeah, this is nice but I'd like to actually see my son and not just random weather phenomenon kthx. Does Charlie still go by Charlie with her parents or does she go back to Celeste? Anyway, I hope that lady hunter from season 7 who slept with Bobby, Sam and Dean without them knowing is having a great afterlife

sweet cinnamon pumpkin, strawberry pound cake, pumpkin peanut brittle, & dreamy summer nights ~ rebeccaselfships
Hi @rebeccaselfships!! :D Thanks so much for the asks! ^.^ Sweet cinnamon pumpkin and strawberry pound cake are answered here but the other two are below the cut~ =D
Tumblr media
pumpkin peanut brittle: if your f/o is from a TV series/game series, what is your favorite episode/game? if your f/o is from a film/stageplay/etc., what is your favorite scene? why?
OOOOOOOH HECK THIS IS HARD. @_@ My FAVORITE episode, in all of Duel Monsters? Ooooooof. So, let's see. Since this is a shonen anime and the card games go on as long as swordfights in some other shonen anime I could name, let's simplify it to specific matches rather than single episodes. Kaiba's rooftop duel with Yuugi and especially its conclusion ("Face Off") or his and Atem's duel at the end of the DOMA arc and particularly the moment when Kaiba sacrifices himself to give Atem the chance to win ("A Duel With Dartz") are my favorite Seto moments and make those ones rank pretty high on the list, but.... I wouldn't call either my absolute favorite episode/duel. That title I think most accurately belongs to "Fate of the Pharaoh." In this duel, the writers for the filler arc took a real stab at actually exploring Atem's biggest flaw as a character and the crux of his own arc—his inability to accept the possibility of losing. It's the same problem Kaiba has, actually, except that since Atem is the protagonist, he's hardly ever actually allowed to lose a game and the consequences are never really explored in much depth. You can count Atem's losses on one hand, honestly, and while there are (usually) consequences when it happens, there's always an obvious solution:
Atem lost the timed Shadow Game duel with Pegasus at the beginning because he refused to play defensively. That cost Grandpa Mutou his soul—but no biggie, Pegasus tells him immediately to just come win the tournament and he can have grandpa back. It's just a way to force Yuugi to enter the tournament, and even as a kid watching for the first time, you know Grandpa's gonna be fine at the end of the season.
Atem loses to Seto in the rooftop duel, only because Yuugi stopped him from declaring the final attack since Seto was endangering his own life to force Yuugi's hand. Atem 100% was going to to do it anyway, but Yuugi stopped him and let Seto win instead. The only consequence for this loss is a painfully underplayed/underutilized moment of having broken Yuugi's trust in him(self) and the loss of some star chips that he gets back for free like an episode later because Mai is a woman of her word and paid up on her IOU to Yuugi.
It is implied that Atem lost to Jounouchi right after Battle City, but this happens entirely offscreen (if at all) and has no consequences whatsoever; Jou doesn't even joke about being the real King of Games or anything later.
Atem loses to Rafael in the duel I'm about to talk about and this is the really important one because actual consequences result, though sadly not as major as we'd like since this was ultimately a filler arc... it HAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL AAAA
Atem loses to Yuugi at the very end of the series in the ceremonial duel, which allows Atem to pass into the afterlife at long last, having completed his task and learned to lose gracefully.... except when did he earn that character development??? In the manga he kinda. Doesn't. Unless maybe losing to Jou somehow made it all okay, i have no idea.
*** We're not counting Yuugi's losses to Rebecca and Jounouchi because they're not relevant to the whole "Atem can't handle losing" thing. They share a body and usually Yuugi gets credit for Atem's wins, but those two games were done 100% by Yuugi acting alone without Atem so they don't count toward Atem's record. The thing with the duel with Rafael is that 1) there would have been absolutely no consequences for Atem losing if he'd just accepted the fact that he was going to lose. The ONLY reason this duel became high-stakes at all is because Atem was so incapable of accepting defeat by a guy he'd just met that he played the Sealed-Evil-in-a-Card card in a desperate bid for victory. He did this OVER Yuugi's protests and knowing very well what happens when someone loses a duel while that card—which can't be taken off the field—is in play. And what happened? He lost anyway, but now he was gonna get his soul stolen. And what happened next? Yuugi stepped up and took the bullet for Atem, leaving Atem entirely alone and without his Morality Pet for the whole season. And it's played like maybe if they beat Dartz and stop his whole apocalypse train from happening, maybe they can get the souls of Yuugi and all the other victims back, but it's a certainty. As a kid watching the first time, you have no idea if you just saw Yuugi die or not. And Atem is acting pretty damn convinced that he's gone for good and hope is slim. The writers did not explore this as deeply as I'd have liked, but it was just narratively a REALLY good scene, it's hands-down the best one for developing Atem's arc, and had the most weight of any of the duels in the whole show imo. Very very good match/episode.
dreamy summer nights: what is your first memory with your f/o?
My first memories with Seto are reeeeaaallly old, and date back to a time when I honestly cannot tell for sure which came which because they're not really tied to any chronological landmarks I could use for reference. I don't know exactly what year it was or how old I was or what grade I was in when I first recruited him as a "friend" (ie, my first platonic f/o); I didn't really develop any true sense of time until basically high school. I've also blocked out huge swaths of my childhood, leaving me with hundreds of crystal-clear snapshots that have no discernable order, and a general knowledge of "this happened," but I don't remember most of the when/where/how/why. I remember a Halloween when I tried very hard to get him to dress up and go trick-or-treating with me, but he would only come to make sure I stayed safe—no costume for Kaiba. XD I remember the Fourth of July when I accidentally set my pants on fire (for like 0.2 seconds; it was out before I even realized) and he told me off for being so careless. I remember watching the fireworks with him for the rest of that night, eating hot dogs and just talking, and for a while just forgetting everything else. I remember a road trip. He refused to pile into a car with everyone else, but he met us at all our stops anyway with his jet. XD We saw the Grand Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns, Yellowstone, a few other cool places. It was the birth of my love for geology. Seto humored me and listened to me reading my new books about rocks aloud and talking about volcanoes for what must have been hours. When I got older and he started infodumping to me about his kinds of science, I really got to appreciate the time he spent with me when I was doing it instead of leaving me to it alone. I remember some darker things. I first recruited Seto as a friend because I believed we could help each other—I could be a friend to him when he clearly needed one, and he could show me how to survive. The fact that I needed Seto Kaiba of all people to show me how to survive my home and school life before I was even ten years old could give you some hints to what I was dealing with at the time—a skim of his backstory sections on his wiki would make it clear to those who aren't aware of what he's been through himself. The first thing I needed to do when I brought him to my world to be my friend and support system was convince him to tolerate a random stranger and even want to be friends when he—at the time—sort of made a point about how he didn't do friendship, so I showed him some of the stuff I had going on. That would be the first memory, but the details are not really suitable for the cheerful vibe I try to keep here. Maybe I'll drop it under a well-tagged-for-triggers post with a warning and a readmore at some point, along with how I first realized my feelings for him had turned from platonic to romantic.

Beca’s beaten up car pulled to a whining stop on the gravel road. The fragments crunched under the weight of her tires. She took in a deep, steadying breath and slowly got out of the car. She didn’t move for several minutes. Of course, she knew exactly where to go, but this was the first time she had seen her grave since she died. The old, dead grass crunched under her feet as she slowly walked up to the seemingly untouched headstone. She crouched down and ran her fingers along the smooth grooves in the stone.
”Hey Chlo” Beca started. “I brought some flowers for you. I also have the yellow cup with me. You know this is the first time I’ve been up here since... it happened. Don’t think that I love you any less because I couldn’t come up here. No, I just physically couldn’t. Couldn’t get out of bed. Couldn’t move. I was broken. It’s not your fault though. It’s mine.”
”I should’ve talked to you more. I should’ve paid attention to the little things. I should’ve loved you better than I did. Maybe then you would still be here. Maybe I should’ve done a better job to care for you. I could’ve stopped this. I never should’ve left you that day. I should’ve stayed home. Maybe we could watch a movie. Twilight marathon? I know how much you loved that movie. Maybe Harry Potter. I don’t know, it would’ve been your choice. I would’ve fallen asleep after about an hour anyways. No biggie.”
”Anyways, back on track. I just came to tell you how much I love and miss you. You know I never thought the afterlife was real. I thought we just died and that’s that. But if it gives me something to hold onto, I’m gonna believe today. You were the best thing that ever happened to me, Chloe. I still remember the first day.”
-2012-
”Hi, any interest in joining our a capella group?” The redhead smiled and handed Beca a flyer.
”Oh right, this is like a thing now” Beca stated, warily watching the girl across from her.
-Present Day-
Beca chuckled, a short, dry laugh. “I kinda regret acting like that, but 18 year old me was a bit of a bitch. Of course, you knew that, but you still put up with me. Of course you did. You’re Chloe. Chloe Beale. You’ll always be Beale to me. You put up with my shit when no one else did. I never realized how great you were to me until you left. I still remember every time we went out for ice cream at 2 am. I still remember the innocent touches in Bellas rehearsal. I remember it all. How could I forget?”
-2013-
”Beca, please?” Chloe drew out the ‘e’ and pouted.
”Alright, alright, fine. I’ll take you to go get ice cream.” Beca relented and Chloe wrapped her in a bear hug.
 ...
“What kind do you want, Chlo?” Chloe stared at the case for a solid 3 minutes before finally shouting “Cookie dough!” Beca laughed and bought it for her.
”Gimme bite” Chloe demanded after they sat down.
”Why’d you make me buy Cookie Dough if you wanted my Cherry Blitz?” Beca mock glared as she gave her a bite.
 ”Tastes better from yours”
-Present Day-
”God Chlo, you never ate it all but ended up eating half of mine.” Beca laughed, a loud, boisterous sound. “You always took mine, even if you hated the flavor, you took it.”
”I think what I loved most about you is that you had such a big heart. You could absolutely hate someone, but give them a second chance because you thought they deserved it. I guess I’m kinda lucky there, ain’t I. You took so many chances on me, and I never took a chance on you. I did not once ask if you were truly doing okay. Feeling okay. I didn’t. I never checked up on you, and I should have. I should’ve given you the world, and I would’ve, but I never did. I thought you were happy Chlo-“ Her voice cracked and she paused for a few minutes.
”I thought you were happy all the time. You pretended you were. For me, you pretended. I should’ve made it clear you didn’t have to.” She looked up at the setting sun and let a tear run down her cheek.
”Guess it’s getting pretty late, huh. Well now for the real reason I’m here, how about it.” Beca took a deep breath.
”I guess I never told you this because I was afraid it’d change everything, but now it’s too late, and I have to say it now. I was- am- in love with you, Chloe. I always have been. Always will be. I should’ve told you before. I never did though, and I will always carry that with me. Chloe you were it for me. You were my person. My one and only. I will never stop loving you, and I will always be there for you, no matter what. I had the chance to save you from drowning, and I didn’t. I let you sink. I never had the chance to give you my air. So if this is the last you ever hear from me, know I love you so much. With every fiber of my being, I love you. I think I’ll play our song one more time”
Beca began to sing, tapping rhythms with the famous yellow cup effortlessly. She eased through every verse, never missing a beat. On the last word, she sobbed, a loud, crushing noise in the silent area.
Beca once again ran her fingers over the smooth stone divots, tracing the name of her love. She stood up, waved at the stone, brushed the dirt off her jeans, and started the trek back to her car.
When she got there, she noticed her window was cracked open just an inch and a small ladybug flew onto her steering wheel. Beca smiled and sobbed at the same time.
“I see you, Chloe. I see you” She spoke to the ladybug. She carefully put the ladybug on her finger and let her fly away. Eventually, she composed herself enough to drive and got into her car. While starting the car, she noticed a small CD case in her passenger seat that she had gotten from Chloe the day she passed. A suicide note, of sorts.
She began to pull out of the cemetery and onto the busy road as she put the CD in and pressed play. She heard a whirring noise, and a distinct sob before choked words came out of her speaker.
 ”I love you too, Beca.”
Beca was too distracted by the scratchy voice that came from the radio to notice the other car come flying down the wrong lane, it's tires screeching as the driver tried to stop.
She didn’t notice the glass shards fly from her windshield and into her neck, slicing the delicate skin that rests there.
She didn’t notice the hard plastic pin the lower half of her body, the strong bones crushed effortlessly under the car’s weight.
Never heard the scream of the other driver as they jumped out at the last minute.
She didn’t notice any of it.
The only thing going through her head were the words that had swept through her car merely seconds before.
 “I love you too, Beca”
Beca’s eyes fluttered shut seconds before she took her last gasping breath.
 I’m coming home Chlo.
 I’m coming home.

summary: phantom makes some friends :)
.
After day 10 of being stuck inside someone else's body, Phantom finally got used to waking up in the human world.
He opened his eyes to be greeted by the now-familiar star-shaped stickers stuck on the roof. He was starting to hate those plastic stars. While he at first appreciated how neatly Danny had placed them in the shapes of constellations, now they only served to remind him that he was still living Danny's life while the real guy's ghost was in who-knows-where.
Phantom sat up in bed and squinted as the rays of sunlight hit his eyes through the window. He had learned in science class that the sun was a star, and Phantom hated it as much as he hated the fake stars on the ceiling. He missed the blissful darkness of the Ghost Zone. Everything was so dang bright in the human world.
Phantom threw back his (really Danny's) covers and got up. After a week and a half of living as a human, he had settled into a morning routine. Get out of bed, ignoring the terrible pull of gravity on your stolen human body. Go to the bathroom, pointedly refusing to look at the mirror to see Danny's face. Do your business without feeling too weird about your nut not being yours, wash your hands and brush your teeth, go back to Danny's room and change clothes. Stop and gaze at the photograph sitting on Danny's desk which you never moved since you found it, showing Danny and his friends, and wonder where Danny's ghost was.
It's been a week and a half since Danny disappeared after their fight with the toilet ghost. The toilet ghost had unsurprisingly reformed in his haunt in the Casper High restroom, which Phantom knew after one startling bathroom break, but he seemed content just to chill without causing trouble. Danny never reappeared. Phantom honestly felt annoyed at Danny for leaving him to handle his life on his own, which felt very awkward when he knew next to nothing about it.
Or maybe not. Phantom hissed and pressed a hand against his temples as an image assaulted his brain. The smell of the wilderness, a dog's fur under his hands, firewood burning while he and the other Fentons sat with their Aunt Alicia around the firelight, the stars shining above them. Phantom pinched his arm and twisted it, and the image disappeared.
He knew a thing or two about human anatomy, and he knew that he currently had Danny's brain--including his memories. The longer he spent in this body, the more memories he gained access to. How much longer until he remembered all of Danny's life? And if he gained Danny's earthly memories, will he lose his own memories of the Ghost Zone? Will he even be able to tell himself apart from Danny?
Phantom tried not to think about it too much.
He went downstairs to the kitchen. Danny's parents (Maddie and Jack, he had learned were their names) were, as usual, tinkering with some anti-ghost weaponry at the table. Phantom focused on anything but those weapons and tried not to feel too threatened by them. They didn't even work on him, not while he was in their son's body.
There had been a few small ghosts that came through the portal since it had opened, but they never lasted long before either Fenton captured them. Phantom didn't know what they did to the ghosts, and he was too scared to peek into the lab to find out. All he knew was that he sometimes imagined hearing echoing screams rise from the basement. He was just glad none of the ghosts had been someone he knew so far.
Jazz didn't seem bothered by the weapons. She was eating her breakfast while simultaneously reading a book about psychology. At first, Phantom had assumed she studied psychology because she still thought he was crazy for believing himself to be an ex-ghost, but he quickly realized that she simply liked learning about the subject.
He sat down, ignoring the tremors that came from being too close to the ghost hunters, and didn't speak as he ate his breakfast--eggs and bacon, which wasn't as sweet as cereal, but not bad. Apparently, Maddie and/or Jack often accidentally got some ectoplasm from their research onto the food they cooked, which gave it the tangy aftertaste of ecto-plasm. That only made Phantom feel more nostalgic for his old afterlife.
Jazz looked up from her book to check the clock in the kitchen, scraped off the remainder of her meal, and stood up. "Ready for school, Danny?" she said.
Phantom tensed his jaw. "Yeah," he said and stood up with Danny's backpack. He tried not to show any discomfort at being called Danny. After all, he had given up trying to convince the Fentons of his true identity after that first day.
Just like the previous ten days, Jazz drove him to school. He watched the scenery that passed by through the window. He used to find it captivating, how different the landscape was from the Zone and how many humans and animals were alive in this world. Now, he just wished once more that he could return home already.
The now-familiar building of Casper High appeared in front of them, and they exited the car after Jazz parked. Phantom let his stolen body go on autopilot as it moved toward class. Honestly, he used to think the Ghost Zone was boring, but the human world was even more mundane. He just went to the same classrooms every day to learn something about the same old subjects.
As he passed by a hallway, he caught a glimpse of a black-clad girl with a black ponytail. He felt his body tense up as he met Sam's violently violet eyes for a brief second. Then they turned away from each other and moved on.
It was awkward, being anywhere near Danny's old friends. Sam and Tucker were the only other humans who really knew about Phantom, and it didn't make things any easier between them. Imagine your best friend was dead and some stranger took his place, which nobody knew about but you...
They didn't talk much.
"Okay, that's it," some girl said next to him. "What is going on between you and your friends?"
Phantom blinked and turned around to look at her. She had blonde hair with a flower pin holding it away from her face, and she was crossing her arms and looking directly at him. It took him a few slow moments before he asked, "Are you talking to me?"
The blonde rolled her eyes and said, "Yes, I'm talking to you, Fenton. You, Manson, and Foley used to be inseparable. Now, it almost seems like you guys are avoiding each other. So what's up?"
Phantom winced and fidgeted with the hem of his shirt. How could he possibly describe that the reason they weren't friends anymore was because he was someone else? After failing to come up with a decent explanation, he decided to use the good ol' method popular among ghosts and growled, "None of your business."
The girl blinked, then smirked. "Wow, Danny. You're a lot tougher than I remember."
Phantom clenched his jaw and turned away. Even with him gaining Danny's memories, it was getting harder each day to pretend to be him. He really wished Danny would come back already, if only to give him some pointers on how to live his life.
He barely made it past a row of lockers before a fist suddenly slammed against a locker right in front of him. Phantom jumped back and looked up into the angry blue eyes of one Dash Baxter. He slumped. "Oh. You again."
Dash gritted his teeth and growled, "I've been holding it together for a week, but I really need to take out my anger on someone."
"What is it this time?" Phantom said noncommittally. "A failed test?"
"It's the fucking locker," Dash said, his breath burning in Phantom's face.
"A...locker?"
Dash grabbed Phantom by his shirt and raised him, his blue eyes glaring holes into him. "The fucking locker! Ever since a row of 'em was mysteriously dented, I had to get a new one near the band room. Which, sure, no biggie, right? But god, every Wednesday there's band practice, and those geeks have to come near me with their stupid spittle and annoying loud instruments. And guess what day it is today?"
"Wednesday?" Phantom guessed.
"Fucking Wednesday!" Dash slammed Phantom against the wall of lockers, which made his head vibrate with pain. At least Phantom knew why Sidney hated bullies so much. They really, really sucked.
Dash was about to give Phantom another painful attack, but just then the bell rang, and everyone filed to class. Dash gave Phantom one more shove before letting go and sneering. "Saved by the bell, but not for long. Get ready for a beating later."
Phantom had a sarcastic comment in mind, but he knew from experience that angering someone stronger than you was never a good idea. So he just glared at Dash's back while Dash stalked away. As he did, Phantom thought he saw what looked like a wisp of smoke following after the jock...but when he blinked, it disappeared.
.
Phantom scratched his head as he glared at the math worksheet on the desk in front of him. Of all the subjects, geometry was the worst. He never thought that it was important for him to know (maybe because shapes continually shifted in the Ghost Zone), so he never bothered learning it. Apparently, Danny's memories didn't do him much good, either.
Tucker sat next to him. When Danny was still around, that seating arrangement was probably awesome--two best friends sitting right next to each other. Now, it was just awkward. He and Tucker did their best to pretend that the other didn't exist...which was why he was surprised when Tucker leaned in and whispered, "Want some help?"
Phantom looked up at him in surprise. He was watching him from behind those thick glasses of his. The human fidgeted and added, "Don't get me wrong, I still think your whole...situation is weird. But no one deserves to be tortured by school material."
Phantom pursed his lips and looked back to his paper. Of the two of Danny's friends, Tucker had always been the more open. Sam, on the other hand...maybe she already wore black daily before Phantom entered the picture, but he couldn't look at her and not think that it looked like funeral attire, worn for the death of her real friend.
"Sam hates me," Phantom whispered.
"She doesn't hate you," Tucker responded. "She just misses Danny. So do I."
Phantom gazed at the printed numbers sadly. "I don't know where he is. The last I saw or heard from him was on the same day you guys last did."
He didn't need to look at Tucker to know that his words disappointed him. There was a tense silence between them for a moment, then Tucker broke it by saying, "You need to find the cosine."
"Huh?"
Tucker tapped his paper and said, "The first question. You need to find the cosine of the triangle to know the missing angle."
"Oh," Phantom said, feeling stupid.
Tucker spent the rest of the period whispering methods to help him solve their geometry problems when the teacher wasn't listening. Phantom kept sneaking glances at the boy. Tucker's eyes were glued to the schoolwork, refusing to look at Phantom, probably to make it easier to pretend that he wasn't inside his best friend's body. Phantom didn't mind. It was more than enough for him that Tucker even considered talking to him.
Class ended, and Phantom and Tucker gathered their things and stood. Phantom waited for Tucker to leave, but he stayed around while everyone else filed out the classroom. Phantom fidgeted.
"Thank you," he said, figuring that was what the human was waiting for him to say. "For, you know. Helping me out."
Tucker pushed his glasses up and scratched his neck. "I figured it wasn't fair for me to judge you for...being you." As in, not being Danny. "From what I gathered, you didn't ask to be in your situation, either."
"Ancients, no," Phantom confirmed. "I hate being alive."
Tucker raised an eyebrow. "I thought ghosts generally want to be alive again."
"Why'd you think that?"
Tucker shrugged. "It's what's always shown in horror movies."
Phantom didn't know what sorts of ghost myths were broadcasted in human-made movies. He almost opened his mouth to argue, but he hesitated.
Did he hate being alive? He hated being thrust here from the Ghost Zone against his will, and he hated having to live someone else's life. But not everything in the human world sucked. It was definitely more peaceful than the Zone.
"I think I just hate being alive as someone I'm not," Phantom said.
Tucker softened. Phantom wished he didn't. Ghosts rarely showed sympathy to each other, and the way Tucker looked at him was closer to pity. Phantom averted his eyes and busied himself with Danny's school supplies.
"Well," Tucker said, "I can't imagine what you're going through, but it sounds like a lot. I know you're not Danny...but that doesn't mean we can't be friends."
Phantom looked up in surprise and found Tucker smiling at him timidly. He hadn't thought about how lonely he had gotten since getting stuck inside Danny's body. He missed his friends from the Ghost Zone, and Tucker missed Danny. Maybe befriending each other could fill a hole in both their hearts.
Then he saw the doorway behind Tucker and faltered. There stood a girl with a black ponytail wearing black clothes, like funeral attire, and staring between the two with a look bordering on betrayal.
Tucker followed his gaze and froze at the sight of her. "Sam!" he called out, but Sam had turned away and was walking rapidly down the hallway. He glanced back at Phantom, but Phantom had shifted his focus back to Danny's schoolthings. Tucker hesitated for one second before dashing out the classroom after Sam.
Phantom tried not to feel hurt. He knew Sam felt guilty for inadvertently causing the whole switch between him and Danny. He just wished she didn't act like it was his fault. He looked around the classroom and found himself alone...aside from one other student.
As soon as Phantom caught him staring, the redheaded boy quickly looked away and pretended to pack away his things. All he succeeded in doing was drop his pencil, and he cursed and dropped on his knees to pick it up from where it had rolled away on the floor.
Phantom recognized the boy. He was the only other human besides Tucker and Sam who knew about him because he was there during Danny's ghost fight. Wesley, he'd heard the teacher call him. This was not the first time Phantom found Wesley watching him, yet the human never approached him or said anything. It was unnerving.
Phantom walked toward Wesley just in time for the boy to stand up and come face to face with Phantom. Wesley squeaked and jumped back, dropping his pencil again.
"I'm not going to hurt anyone," Phantom said.
Wesley leaned awkwardly against the desk behind him, trying and failing to look casual. "Why? Were you planning to?" he replied.
"No, so you don't have to be scared of me."
"I'm not scared," Wesley said, his voice a little too high. Phantom was unimpressed.
"I'm a ghost."
"You mean Danny is a ghost."
Phantom bit his lip. Right, he wasn't a ghost anymore. One would think he would get used to that idea after spending a week as a human.
He looked at the floor, where the dropped pencil sat. He bent down, picked it up, and offered it to Wesley. Wesley stiffened before warily accepting it from him. Yeah, he was definitely still scared of him.
Phantom held back a sigh and left the classroom, not looking back at Wesley. He wished he had one of his ghost friends to talk to. He turned his head to the side and inwardly groaned when he saw a familiar stocky figure approach...Dash.
Luckily for him, he was not the closest nerd in Dash's path. An unfortunate, scrawny boy with glasses backed away as Dash came near. Dash grabbed him by the arm before he could run, and Phantom winced in expectation of the beating Dash was about to deliver to the poor human.
The beating never came.
"Mikey!" Dash greeted in a--was that a friendly tone? "What are you so scared for? I just wanted to thank you for your help on our chemistry homework."
Phantom could tell from Mikey's befuddled expression that he wasn't the only one who found Dash's behavior odd. "Um...you're welcome?"
Dash grinned and patted Mikey's head. "Anyone ever tell you you're a great guy?"
Mikey was growing outright terrified of Dash's out-of-character action. "Did you hit your head? Aren't you going to stuff me inside a locker? Look, here's an empty locker right here!"
There was a violent twitch in the jock's face at the mention of locker-stuffing, but it quickly reverted to a grin as he said, "Of course not! I've realized my mistake. No more bullying from me."
Mikey still seemed wary, but he started to relax. "Really?"
Dash laughed heartily and slapped Mikey's back, causing the small nerd to stumble. "Oh, just go already. Wouldn't want to miss your next class, would you?"
Mikey sent one last confused look at Dash before fast-walking down the hallway. Everyone who was standing around and heard Dash's conversation was also staring in confusion, but Dash gave them all a bright smile before continuing on his way with an oddly cheery step. As he passed by Phantom, Phantom managed to catch a glimpse of his eyes.
His irises were gray.
Phantom thought that there was something familiar about the way he spoke, and the eyes only confirmed it.
He wondered if desiree had been reading his thoughts...because it looked like his wish just got granted.
.
Down a hallway, a student was taking out his anger on a vending machine. "Come on," he grumbled, kicking it. "I just want one soda!"
A shadow descended upon him, and he turned around frightfully to be faced with the infamous star quarterback. "D-Dash!" he greeted with wide eyes. Like everyone else in school, he knew Dash's short temper and his tendency to take it out with violence.
But Dash didn't seem angry in that moment. In fact, he was smiling, the expression strange on his usually sour face. "Hey, there, pal. Let me get that for you," he said and walked forward to the vending machine.
To anyone else watching, Dash used some subtle trick to get the machine to spew out a can. But to Phantom, who stood a distance away watching him inconspicuously, it was apparent that "Dash"'s trick was of a ghostly nature.
'Dash' held up the soda can and offered it to the student generously. "Here ya go! One free egg cream."
The teen raised an eyebrow at him. "Uh, you okay, Dash? You're acting...weird."
"I'm acting nice," 'Dash' said, still wearing his warm smile. "No longer do you have to fear me as a bully, because I've put that life way behind."
"Wow, really?" he replied and accepted the soft drink tentatively.
"Of course!" 'Dash' spread out his arms eagerly and said to all the students milling around, "In fact, why bother with one drink? Free egg creams for everyone!"
He stuck his hand into the vending machine again and caused several cans to flow out. The move was so obviously ghost-powered, it amazed Phantom how inattentive humans were. All of them were too busy grabbing a soda cheerfully.
"I have no idea what an egg cream is, but thanks, Dash!" one jock said.
"No problem-o," 'Dash' replied with a grin and a wink, then lifted a can to his mouth for a sip.
Phantom decided that enough was enough. He had watched this ghost parade around in Dash's body for several periods, never approaching him because he had no idea what to say--Should he tell him about his situation? Would he even believe him? It didn't matter. If he didn't make a move now, the school day would be over, and the ghost might still stay inside the bully's body.
He made his way through the crowd gathered around the vending machine and walked up to the person wearing Dash's face. Once he got close enough, he whispered, "They don't have drinks like these in the Ghost Zone, do they?"
'Dash' choked on his soda. He hacked and thumped on his chest to expel the soft drink from his lungs. "Stupid human body," Phantom heard him mutter. Then he looked down at Phantom with a scowl that almost made him look like the regular Dash again. "Who are you?"
Phantom eyed the humans around them. They weren't paying any attention to them, but still... "Maybe we should talk somewhere more private," he said in a low voice.
The ghost in Dash's body grabbed him by the arm, then pulled both of them through a wall. Phantom stumbled as he let go. "Really? Using ghost powers in plain sight?"
The ghost waved Dash's hand carelessly. "Please. Even if anyone did see us, most humans don't even believe in ghosts."
"So it is you," Phantom said, "Sidney."
Sidney, because that indeed was him, narrowed Dash's eyes at him. "How do you know me? You can't be a ghost because I don't sense anyone overshadowing you."
"I am a ghost...or, I used to be." Phantom ran a hand through his hair. "Ugh, this is weird to explain, and I don't even know if you'll believe me, but...it's me. Phantom."
"Phantom? What makes you think I believe you?" He was watching him intently, no doubt wondering how a human could know not only his name but also his missing friend's name.
"Remember when you found out I was going to vandalize someone's lair and went after my ass for that because apparently that's bullying, but when you found out it was Aragon, you changed your mind and joined in with me? You specifically wrote "Aragon is a Mickey Mouse" in grafitti before we had to run away when his guards found us."
The gray eyes widened, and Sidney breathed, "Holy Ancients--Phantom?"
The next thing Phantom knew, he was being crushed in Dash's burly arms. Sidney had never been a physically strong ghost, but he sure as hell was possessing a physically strong human body.
"I can't believe it! Where have you been these past few days? No one's heard from you--I thought for sure you were toast!"
Phantom struggled in his bone-crushing embrace. "Human body," he wheezed. "Have to breathe."
Sidney sheepishly let go, and Phantom was able to take in gulps of air.
"But I don't get it," Sidney said, frowning. "How come I didn't sense you in there?"
Phantom bit his lip. "That's the part that's hard to explain. Somehow, I don't have any of my ectoplasm anymore, but I'm, well...stuck? I'm stuck inside this human body because, I guess...his soul sort of...left the same time my soul went in?"
Sidney tilted Dash's head and frowned. "What are you saying?"
Phantom sighed. "I'm saying I'm alive because I accidentally stole a human's body."
"That's..." Sidney threw Dash's arms out with wide eyes and exclaimed, "That's amazing!"
Phantom frowned. "No, it's not! I can't leave!"
"But, Phantom, you're alive! Do you have any idea what I would do to get a chance at being alive again?"
"But I'm living someone else's life!" He bunched the fabric of his shirt in a sweaty fist and said, "It's wrong. And confusing."
Sidney's enthusiasm died down a bit, and he said, "Right. The human world must be strange for someone who doesn't remember his human life."
Phantom raised an eyebrow. "I'm a Zone-born ghost. I didn't have a human life."
"Right," Sidney said again, his eyes darting to the side. Phantom frowned. He was pretty sure that he formed in the Ghost Zone, but the way Sidney acted was almost as if he was hiding something.
Before he could ask anything, Sidney said, "I don't get it, though. How did this happen?"
Phantom decided to file away Sidney's odd behavior to think about at a later time. For now, he answered, "I think it had to do with the portal opening in the exact spot I was in."
"Wait, portal? What portal?"
He could tell from Sidney's (or rather Dash's) surprised expression that this was his first time hearing about the portal, and that confused Phantom. "How did you get here?" Phantom asked.
"Haunted relic," Sidney responded, puffing out Dash's chest. "I left behind a mirror in my lifetime that is apparently still around in this school. I just needed someone to touch it so I can overshadow them." His eyes sparkled, and he added eagerly, "But you're saying someone created a portal? Does that mean I can visit this world in person?"
"No!" Phantom exclaimed. Sidney stared at him. He quickly gulped and said, "I mean...it's being guarded by ghost hunters."
"Ghost hunters?" Sidney laughed. "Come on, those are always fake."
"These ones aren't," Phantom murmured. He absentmindedly rubbed his chest, where the Fenton couple had tried shooting him--only for all of them to discover that their weaponry didn't work on him while he was in Danny's body.
"Then I'll just pass through at night," Sidney replied. "Even ghost hunter humans have to sleep, right?"
That made sense, but Phantom still felt uneasy. Admittedly, it was a little hard to feel calm when the organ inside his chest (his heart) was beating more aggressively than usual. "I don't know. I still think it's a bad idea."
Sidney's gray eyes narrowed at him. "Why don't you want me to come?" He jabbed an accusing finger at Phantom and said, "You decided to make this place your haunt, didn't you?"
"What?" Phantom's eyes widened. "No! You know I don't care about owning a territory. And this school's already haunted, anyway."
"Then why don't you want me coming through?"
"I don't know!" Phantom cried, his heart threatening to burst through. Didn't he know? His head ached as he felt another one of Danny's memories flash before him, which really didn't feel like the right time for this. But he saw what humans thought of ghosts. Danny wasn't the only human afraid of specters. If one suddenly appeared...the humans would freak out. And this was such a calm world.
Sidney's eyes scrutinized him while he clutched his head and winced. Finally, Dash's body relaxed. "Okay," Sidney said. "I won't cross through, but only because you're my friend."
Phantom gave him a grateful smile, which wasn't as pleasant as it could have been without the emotional turmoil. "Thank you."
Sidney seemed disgruntled about his decision, but he straightened Dash's letterman jacket and smirked. "For now, I might as well enjoy my time in the human world while I'm in this Clyde's body."
Phantom had been looking at Sidney, but he shifted his attention to Dash--the body he was overshadowing. His skin had grown pale since that morning. The breaths coming through his nose were slower, or maybe Sidney forgot how to breathe again.
"You can't stay inside him for long," Phantom reminded. "Prolonged overshadowing isn't healthy."
"So?"
That question caught Phantom off guard. "So...if you stay in him for too long, he might die."
Dash's face was pulled into an expression of scorn. "He's a bully. Everyone in school is scared of him. Maybe he deserves to die."
Ba-dump, ba-dump, continued Phantom's heart. He gave a nervous chuckle and ignored the sweat forming on his neck. "You don't mean that, do you?"
But as he studied Sidney/Dash, he realized Sidney did mean it. Why should a ghost care about death? Sidney was already dead, so killing someone wasn't a big deal. And it did put a permanent end to Dash's bullying in this school.
But Phantom had seen grief in humans. He knew how big a deal death really was, at least to their kind.
Phantom gulped. "Get out of his body. You can't let him die."
"Since when do you care what happens to human bullies?"
"Since--" Phantom figured there was only one way to get Sidney to stop. He hated pulling this card with him, but...he pointed at Sidney accusingly and said, "Since hurting him makes you a bully!"
Sidney recoiled. For a second, Phantom thought he would leave then and there, but he recovered with a scowl and said, "This is a special circumstance. It's just like vandalizing Aragon's lair. Some bullies deserve to taste their own medicine."
Phantom threw his arms up. "Then give him a wedgie! No need for anyone to die!"
Sidney was unnervingly quiet for a moment. Then he tilted Dash's head and said, "Being alive has changed you, hasn't it?"
Phantom had no response. He didn't know what to say to that. He didn't have to, because just then someone said, "Dash! There you are!"
He turned his head and saw a group of students in matching letterman jackets approach. One of them patted Sidney/Dash and said, "What are you doing with loser Fenturd?"
"Now, now," Sidney said and wagged Dash's finger. "Fenturd is no loser."
"It's Fenton," Phantom corrected.
Sidney's gray eyes were unreadable as they gazed at Phantom. Then they turned to the group of popular kids, and he grinned widely before saying, "Never mind that! What did you want to tell me? We should go have some fun!"
Sidney did not stop overshadowing Dash. He followed the gang as they went to do whatever Dash's friends normally did for fun besides bully.
As soon as they left, Phantom released a breath he didn't realize he was holding. He slid against the wall behind him until he was crouching on the floor. Ba-dump. Ba-dump. He looked at his stolen hands and saw that they were shaking.
He felt scared...of Sidney. Since when did he feel scared of his friends?
The same time he started caring about what happened to human bullies.
Since he became a human.
.
Phantom guessed there had been a lot of renovating in Casper High since Sidney was alive, but one place stayed the same: Sidney's locker. He followed the path he recognized from Sidney's lair in the Ghost Zone and found the metal cabinet sitting in the same spot as it did in the school's ghostly counterpart.
Since Danny's body was infuriatingly short, Phantom had to stand on tip toes to peek into the top locker through the slits on its door. It was hard to make out anything inside when it was shrouded in darkness, but he managed to see the glint of something reflective. Sidney's mirror. His ghostly relic.
Phantom had considered seeking the toilet ghost's help in stopping Sidney; if the ghost considered the school his haunt, then surely he would consider Sidney an intruder, right? But when he went to the haunted bathroom, he found Sidney--still in Dash's body--chatting him up. Apparently, being both ghosts who died from bullying meant they had a lot of stories to share.
With that solution out of the picture, there was only one option left: getting Sidney's mirror. As his doorway to the human world, he would do anything to keep it intact. Phantom might be able to convince him to leave Dash peacefully if he had it in his hands...if only he could figure out how to do that.
Oh, how much easier this job could have been if he kept his ghost powers in this stupid body. He would just phase his hand through the door and be done. But Phantom did not have his intangibility, and he did not have the key to Dash's locker, which meant he could only gaze at the mirror sadly and plan Dash's obituary in his head. 'Here lies Dash Baxter: died because he failed to follow the school's anti-bullying PSA.'
"What are you doing?" a voice spoke, causing Phantom to jump. He whipped around and saw a familiar redhead. "You again," Phantom said.
Wesley looked at the locker. He was doing a good job of pretending not to be uneased by Phantom. "That's Dash's new locker, right?" the human said.
"Yeah," Phantom confirmed. "Uh, I definitely wasn't doing anything weird, though."
"Did the not-weird thing have anything to do with getting Dash un-possessed?" At seeing Phantom staring, Wesley rolled his eyes and said, "Come on, everyone could tell that Dash has been acting super weird."
"Well...yes. He's overshadowed." Phantom nodded at the locker and explained, "There's an object in there that's connecting the ghost to the human plane. If I could get it, I could stop him from overshadowing Dash, but..." He shrugged. "I don't know how to get it."
Wesley studied the locker. "Could you move out of the way?" he said. Phantom complied. He watched as Wesley pulled out something small from his pocket...a hairclip? A pin?
Phantom couldn't quite see what Wesley was doing over his back, but he was pretty sure he jabbed the pin into the lock and jiggled it around carefully. After a while, the lock fell away, and Wesley stepped back to allow the door to swing forward.
Phantom raised an eyebrow at Wesley. Wesley smiled sheepishly and said, "I get locked out of my house a lot. Single dad isn't always home, and I forget my keys..."
Phantom didn't question him. He looked inside the locker. Behind the messy stacks of books was Sidney's mirror, smooth and shiny in spite of how many decades it had sat in there.
Phantom reached forward and pulled it off the locker wall. Just like in every other mirror, he saw Danny's face stare back at him. Not even a ghostly mirror changed that. Reflection Danny's shoulders slumped.
"So, we break the mirror?" Wesley said.
"What?" Phantom looked up at him. "No! At least, not unless it's as a last resort. I just need to scare Sid--the ghost until he leaves."
"But...it would be easier if you broke it now, right?"
"Well, yes," Phantom admitted. As Sidney's link to the human world, it seemed likely that he would disappear as soon as the link was severed. But he had a feeling breaking something so important would also sever the friendship between him and Sidney--or at least, more harshly than how it would be from him forcing Sidney to quit a human. "But this ghost is my friend. I'm sure I can talk to him."
"So...you're friends with a ghost who possesses people," Wesley said. There it was, the tension in the human's body that signified his wariness of Phantom.
"That--that doesn't mean I'm a fan of possession or anything," Phantom quickly said. "I'm not possessing Danny because I want to."
"I know," Wesley said with a sigh.
Phantom observed Wesley curiously, but the boy's expression was guarded. "Are you Danny's friend?" he asked.
Wesley...blushed? and looked away. "No. We just share a few classes. He probably doesn't even know me."
"Then why are you helping me?"
He shrugged. "My classmate is possessed, of course I would help."
"But everyone hates Dash."
"Then why are you helping him if the ghost is your friend?" Wesley countered.
Phantom turned his eyes away. They landed on the mirror in his hands, and he moved them farther to avoid looking at Danny's face. "None of your business," he uttered.
An awkward silence descended on them, finally broken by Wesley as he said, "If you wanna catch Dash, he's in the basketball team with me. We're practicing in the gym after school."
After school...would Dash still be alive by then? He supposed so. After all, Danny had overshadowed Phantom for almost an entire school day, and he was still (sadly) alive.
"One more question," Wesley said. "What's your name? Your real name, not Danny."
"I go by Phantom--or, uh, I went by Phantom."
Wesley snorted. "Seriously? You're a ghost and your name is Phantom?"
Phantom glared at him and crossed his arms. "I admit, I'm not the most creative with names."
"No shit," Wesley retorted. He was smiling. He...wasn't scared of Phantom?
Wesley cleared his throat and said, "Well, I go by Wes."
"Keen-o," Phantom said, then immediately wanted to ecto-blast himself because Wes was looking at him weird. Fuck Sidney and his infectious 50s slang.
"Yeah, real keen-o," Wes said, and Phantom could tell he was holding back laughter. The bell rang. "Well...I better go. I'll see you in basketball practice, I guess."
Phantom nodded. Wes closed the locker and re-locked it. He hesitated before asking, "Won't the ghost know the mirror's gone?"
Ah. He didn't think about that. "I'll figure something out," Phantom said. Wes nodded and left.
Phantom looked down at the mirror. Again, he saw Danny's face.
Would wes have been as kind to him if he was a ghost? he wondered. Or was he only nice to him because he was Danny? Wes knew he wasn't Danny, but still...
Phantom shook his head. Worry about Danny's relationships later. For now, he had to deal with Sidney's mirror. After a thought, he placed it inside Danny's backpack and carried it with him to class.
If he remembered correctly, his next class was with Tucker. He entered the classroom and found the dark-skinned boy sitting at his desk. Just like in geometry class, he and Tucker sat next to each other--a seating arrangement that was blessed for Danny, cursed for Phantom...but maybe not this time.
Tucker perked up when he saw him approach. "Phantom!" he whispered. "Look, I'm really sorry about ditching you this morning. I meant what I said about becoming friends."
Phantom tried to remain neutral as he sat down, but he couldn't help the twinge of bitterness in his chest. "I thought Sam didn't want you to hang with me."
Tucker winced. "I'm sorry about Sam, but I swear, she doesn't hate you. It's just...it hurts, seeing you in Danny's body and knowing you aren't him."
"Thanks," Phantom muttered.
"No, I mean--there's nothing bad about you, it's just--you know, it's kinda hard wrapping my head around all this, even if it's already been almost two weeks--"
"Tucker, shut up," Phantom said. Tucker shut up. Phantom turned to him and asked, "Do you have a ghost weapon with you?"
"Huh?"
"Danny's parents are ghost hunters, and you're his friends, so do you have a ghost weapon with you?"
Tucker looked guilty. "We don't have anything against ghosts. Heck, Sam normally loves ghosts--before, you know..."
"Just answer the question."
"...I have a lipstick laser. So does Sam."
Tucker was watching him like he expected Phantom to snap. Phantom didn't care. Heck, the weapons won't even work on him so long as he was in Danny's body. Instead of feeling angry, he felt relieved; he pulled out the mirror from his backpack and thrust it to Tucker.
Tucker looked down at the object. "What--"
"That mirror's haunted."
Tucker pushed the mirror away from him as if Phantom just said it was on fire. Phantom barely managed to catch it before it could shatter on the floor. He glared at Tucker and hissed, "What was that for?"
"Why are you giving me a haunted mirror?!"
Phantom shoved it toward Tucker again and said, "I need you to guard it for me until school finishes. If I keep it with me, the ghost will know."
Tucker stared at him in befuddlement. Admittedly, his request was pretty sudden from Tucker's point of view. But there was no time to explain--Sidney/Dash just entered the room.
Phantom quickly hid the mirror under Tucker's textbook. A part of him hoped it wouldn't crack under the textbook's weight (school textbooks were ridiculously heavy) but he doubted a ghost-powered object would be so easy to shatter. As soon as the mirror was out of sight, he sat at his desk, looking casual.
Tucker followed his gaze to Sidney, and understanding clicked. "I knew Dash was possessed," he whispered.
"Overshadowed," Phantom corrected. "But yes."
As Sidney made his way to Dash's desk, his eyes lingered on Phantom. He didn't give any attention to Tucker. That was good.
Phantom's foot tapped below his desk as the teacher droned on about some history subject. He glanced at the clock. There were only a few periods left until school ended and the basketball team's practice session began. All he had to do was wait.
.
Phantom decided that smell was his least favorite of the human senses. Sure, there were nice smells, like flowers, and freshly-cooked meals. But there is also the horrible reek of sweaty gym locker rooms.
Phantom had to hold his nose to stop himself from gagging. Why did humans need to have such strong olfactory senses?
"Remind me why we're here again?" Tucker said next to him. He must have been used to the smell because he was breathing fine. In one of his hands was Sidney's mirror, and in the other was a Fenton™-brand lipstick.
"Dash has after school practice," Phantom answered. His voice sounded funny with him holding his nose, but he wasn't enthusiastic to let go. He turned to Tucker and added, "You didn't have to come. I can handle the ghost myself."
"Dude, like it or not, you're still in my best friend's body. I don't want to be the one to explain to Danny that you wrecked his body by challenging a ghost on your own."
Phantom ignored the wave of sadness he felt at the mention of Danny. Tucker would only need to explain things if Danny ever returned. Also if Phantom allowed his body to get wrecked. He sighed but did not argue with Tucker.
"There you are," Wes said, approaching Phantom. He was wearing Casper High's red-and-white basketball uniform. Tucker raised an eyebrow at him.
"Tucker, Wes," Phantom introduced. "He knows about me and Danny."
"Aren't you that guy from our gym class?" Tucker said.
"And math class," Wes mumbled.
One of the basketball players in the locker room heard them and came over. "Hey Fenton, Foley, what are you two doing here?" He smirked and added, "You didn't come here for a gay make-out, did you?"
Tucker gagged and said, "God, no, Danny's my best friend. I wouldn't do that to his body."
The basketball player laughed. Wes's expression was...unreadable.
Phantom decided to step forward toward the basketball player. He recognized him as one of the jocks that always hung out with Dash, which must have made him Dash's friend. "Do you--" he began, then remembered this guy was a bully and seemed like he was about to make fun of his funny voice, so he let go of his nose (ignoring the assault on his senses) and said, "Do you know where Dash is?"
"Right here," Dash's voice came from behind, and Phantom turned around to see Sidney/Dash.
Sidney's eyes rove to the mirror in Tucker's hand. His expression darkened.
There was a clap that alerted everyone to the adult human that just entered the room. She was a woman, and Phantom was pretty sure this locker room was for boys, but no one seemed to care. She must have been the coach.
"All right, pansies, enough time getting ready," the coach barked. "Time for practice."
"Yes, Coach Tetslaff," a few boys replied. Most of them followed her command and left the room, but Sidney-as-Dash stayed behind. He went up to her and said, "Actually, coach? I feel kind of sick. Do you think I could sit this one out?" To accentuate his point, he faked a cough.
Tetslaff looked like she was about to argue, but she saw him and paused. The prolonged overshadowing was starting to show its effect on Dash's body. He was pale, sweaty, and had rugged breathing. After a moment's hesitation, Tetslaff grumbled, "Fine. But just this once." She caught Wes standing by the doorway and barked, "What are you waiting for, Weston? You don't look sick to me."
Wes gave Phantom one more glance before he and Tetslaff left the room. That left only Phantom, Tucker, and Sidney-as-Dash inside.
He could tell Sidney was angry at him for taking his relic, but the ghost kept himself calm and raised Dash's hand carefully. "Give me the mirror," he said.
"First, let go of Dash," Phantom ordered. He tried his best to display confidence. Never mind that he didn't have a ghost weapon like Tucker, nor did he know any fight moves that did not include ghost powers he didn't have.
Sidney must have known how powerless he was, but he didn't make a move. He narrowed his eyes and asked, "Why are you sticking up for someone who bullied you?"
"Actually, he has a point," Tucker said. "Why are we helping Dash?"
Phantom glared at Tucker. Sidney chose that moment to lunge forward, but before he could even go two steps, Tucker uncapped his lipstick and pointed it menacingly at him. "Don't try it, demon," he said.
"He's a ghost," Phantom whispered.
"Shush. I know."
Sidney froze at the sight of Tucker's ecto-weapon. It didn't look very intimidating, but it must have given off some ghostly energy to convince Sidney to stay in place. He glowered at Phantom. "What are you going to do?"
Phantom pressed his lips. "Tucker, give me the mirror," he said. Tucker complied. Phantom held the mirror above his head and warned, "I'll smash it."
"You wouldnt," Sidney growled.
"Wanna find out?" He swung the mirror toward the ground, but before he could let go, Sidney quickly cried, "Stop!"
Phantom held the mirror in place, but it was shaking--actually, his entire arms were shaking. "I don't want to do this," he said in a quavering voice. "I don't know why I'm doing this."
He could feel both other pairs of eyes in the room pierce into him. Sidney's gray eyes scrutinized him. After what felt like an eternity, the ghost calmly said, "Okay."
"Okay?" Tucker repeated, surprised.
Sidney stepped back and held up Dash's arms in surrender. "Okay, I'll leave."
"That's it? I kind of expected a ghost fight," Tucker said almost disappointedly, turning to Phantom. "I didn't even get to use my laser."
Sidney scoffed. "A fight would involve violence, which is bullying. I don't do that."
"Wow," Tucker said. "You seem like a pretty nice ghost, actually."
Phantom and Sidney held each other's gaze, and Phantom could tell they both felt a bit of betrayal at the other's action. "He is," Phantom said. "He just needs to let the human go."
Tucker's jolted and tightened his grip around his lipstick when a cloud of smoke escaped from Dash. The smoke was sucked into the mirror in Phantom's hands. As soon as it left, Dash's now-blue eyes rolled into his skull, and his body crumpled against a row of lockers.
Phantom looked down at the mirror and saw its surface glow green before it settled back into a regular mirror, reflecting Danny's face back at him.
A loud snore pulled his attention to Dash, who was lying on the floor in what looked like an uncomfortable position, mouth open and drooling. He snored again.
Tucker snickered. "At least he's alive."
Phantom turned away from Dash and moved toward the locker room's exit. Tucker followed him. "So that's it?" Tucker asked.
Phantom paid little attention to the basketball team practicing in the gym before he emerged into the hallways again. "That's it," he confirmed. "Dash is alive, and Sidney's back where he belongs."
"I still don't get why you helped Dash," Tucker said. "I would've thought ghosts don't care about life and death."
Phantom slowed in his tracks until he stopped. He hung his head. That's the thing isn't it? he thought. I'm not a ghost anymore.
"Just go home, Tucker," he murmured.
Tucker lingered by his side for a second longer, but he must have been able to sense that Phantom needed some time alone, because he evetually left. His footsteps echoed across the empty hallways as he made his way to the school's exit.
That left Phantom alone with Sidney's mirror. He let his lungs expand--a feeling he was starting to get used to and was strangely calming. Then he walked toward Danny's locker.
There was no way he was placing the mirror back in Dash's locker, of course. It wasn't that he didn't trust Sidney to keep his word, but who knew what Dash might do to the relic in a moment of anger (of which he had plenty). So instead, he opened Danny's locker and hung the mirror inside.
Rather than close the door and leave, he kept it open and gazed at the mirror's surface. With his shadow blocking the locker's interior, and humans' poor ability to see in the dark, he could almost imagine himself staring back instead of Danny.
"I'm sorry, Sidney," he said to the mirror. "I don't know what came over me. I just couldn't let you hurt someone."
The mirror stayed quiet. Phantom sighed and leaned against the locker door he was holding. "Being a human is so confusing. I want to be back at the Ghost Zone, with you and the others. I never asked to be here."
There was another moment of silence, and then the mirror glowed. He watched as a fog appeared on its surface and swirled before solidifying into Sidney's face--small and geeky, way different from the one he overshadowed.
"You really can't leave?" Sidney asked.
Phantom didn't admit how much joy he felt at seeing a familiar face. "If I can leave, I would have done so ten days ago."
Sidney looked remorseful. "Right. I didn't think about how tough it would be for someone to return to the human world without any memories of it."
There he went again. His wording implied that Phantom had been alive before. Phantom frowned. "Why do you keep talking like I'm a death-formed ghost?"
Sidney hesitated. He seemed to pick his next words carefully. "You say you're a Zone-born ghost, but do you even have parents?"
"They moved on."
"Who has a core child unless they plan on sticking around?"
Phantom was starting to get irritated. "I don't know, maybe they finished their business sooner than expected."
"But no one knows your parents, if they really are ghosts. And you know how fast news spread in the Ghost Zone. Any ghost deciding to have a core child would definitely have counted as news."
"So, what? You think I died and forgot about it?"
"It's not unheard of. Ghosts who had especially violent deaths often forget their lives at first." Sidney shrugged and admitted, "Maybe I'm wrong and you really are Zone-born. But I find it a little convenient that you managed to learn human processes quickly enough to keep yourself alive for ten days."
Phantom didn't know how to respond to that. True, sometimes he did things in the human world that felt familiar in a way, but he always assumed it was due to him gaining Danny's memories. "If all that you said is true, why wait to tell me now?"
"You know why," Sidney said, his expression troubled. "Ghosts with violent deaths..."
"...are always violent themselves," Phantom completed. Sidney bit his lip and nodded. Phantom glared at the chemistry book in the locker and said, "But you don't think I could turn out like that, do you?"
"Of course not. That's why I'm telling you now. Because--"
"Because I'm a human now," Phantom murmured.
"...I was going to say it's because I got to know you better."
Phantom's eyes didn't meet the mirror. After a moment, Sidney sighed. "Sorry, I didn't mean to burden you with more identity crises than you already have. If you ever want to talk, at least I'm here to listen."
Phantom glanced up. "You mean we're still friends?"
Sidney looked almost offended as he said, "Of course we're still friends! What do you take me for?"
Phantom smiled, but his expression turned into uncertainty as he pointed out, "But I touched your relic and drove you out of a human."
Sidney grumbled, "To be frank, I still don't forgive you for that. But at least I understand why you did it."
"Why's that?"
"Because you're a human now."
Before Phantom could know how to react to that, he heard footsteps echo his way. He turned away from the locker to see Wes jogging toward him. When he looked back at the mirror, Sidney's face was gone, dissolved back into mist before it disappeared.
"You did it!" Wes was saying as he approached grinning. "Dash woke up after practice. He doesn't remember anything from the time he was possessed. Everyone is assuming he had a really rough fever that made him delusional." He caught Phantom's somber expression, and his smile fell. "Is everything okay?"
Phantom closed the locker door quietly. "I'm fine," he said, though he didn't feel it. "The ghost is back in the Ghost Zone."
"The Ghost Zone?" Wes echoed. Phantom turned his head to look at him, and any amusement Wes felt at the silly name vanished. He shifted his foot. "Sorry. I guess it must have been tough, facing off your friend."
Phantom's hand was still on the locker door. The metal was cool against his fleshy skin. "It's okay. We talked it out," he said.
Wes fidgeted with his hands. "Well," he began shyly, "if you want any human friends, I'm always free."
The tips of Wes's ears had gone pink. Phantom narrowed his eyes. He was beginning to recognize this human's strange behavior around Phantom. It was the same way Ember sometimes got around Skulker, not that he ever understood her infatuation.
He tilted his head and asked, "You have a crush on Danny, don't you?"
Wes choked. His face turned as red as the accents of his basketball uniform as he stammered, "W-what? A crush? No! That--that's ridiculous!"
Phantom didn't bother focusing on how flustered Wes was. Instead, he said sadly, "You know I'm not him, right?"
Wes calmed down, and he looked down at his feet sorrowfully. "I know."
Phantom turned his face away. Not for the first time, he wished he knew where Danny was. The silence between him and Wes grew heavy.
Phantom cleared his throat. "Well, if you do find Danny attractive, at least I know the body I'm in is hot."
Wes snorted, then dissolved into laughter. Phantom smiled. The mood lifted just a little bit.
Once his laughter died down, Wes rubbed his neck and said, "Want to walk home together? Or...I guess to Danny's home, in your case."
Phantom's smile fell. "You don't have to be close to me just because you like Danny."
"Dude, I've had more conversations with you in one day than I had with Danny in my life," Wes said, then immediately blushed and added, "Not that that means I'm crushing on you or anything...but we're friends, aren't we?"
Phantom felt a flutter of warmth at that, but it was small compared to his overall negative feelings left over from his confrontation with Sidney. "We are," he told Wes, "and thank you...but if you don't mind, I'd like to be alone for now."
Wes lingered in the edge of his vision before he finally said, "All right. I'll see you tomorrow, then." He turned and reluctantly walked away.
Phantom was left alone in an empty school. He leaned against a row of lockers and closed his eyes. Today should have been a good day. He met friends, both new and old. So why did he feel less than happy?
.
"Danny! Where have you been?" Jazz said as soon as he stepped foot indoors. She was crossing her arms and glaring at him.
Phantom ignored her in favor of looking around the otherwise unoccupied living room. "Where are Mom and Dad?" he asked.
"Out for groceries," Jazz answered impatiently. "What about you? If you wanted to stay after school, you could have called me!"
"Oh," Phantom said, feeling guilty for having forgotten about Danny's sister. She was the nicest Fenton to him, even if she didn't believe the truth about his identity. He reached a hand into his pocket and found it empty. "Actually, I think I forgot my phone at home."
Jazz pinched the bridge of her nose and muttered something incomprehensible. "Just--don't make me worry next time, okay? I had to learn from Sam that you were busy with something."
"Sam?" Phantom said, surprised. The two of them still hadn't spoken since the day Danny left. Maybe Tucker told her to tell Jazz.
Jazz shrugged and moved toward her room upstairs. "There's leftovers in the kitchen. You can heat them yourselves."
"Sure," Phantom said, fairly certain he had learned how to use a microwave correctly. Once Jazz left, he made his way to the kitchen. But he didn't have an appetite at the moment.
Sure, he was hungry. But his mind dwelled too much on Sidney and what he had told him, so he doubted he had the energy in him to make himself a meal. Instead, he went to the door in the back that led downstairs--to the Fentons' underground laboratory.
Phantom opened the door and stood at the edge of the stairs. It seemed to lead into nothing but darkness, but he could smell the whiff of sterilized ectoplasm and metal.
He hadn't been down in the lab since he first woke up there in Danny's body. Most of the time, the Fenton couple was there, and they intimidated him too much. But now they were outside.
Phantom gulped and descended the stairs.
The portal was right where he remembered it. He didn't have a chance to get a good look at it last time, having been too busy freaking out over his situation, but he vaguely recalled a glowing green hole in the wall. The hole was now covered by yellow-and-black blast doors, but he was certain it was the same portal.
There were several tables across the lab with various half-assembled and fully-assembled weapons on them. Phantom tried not to freeze up when he passed by them. At least he didn't find any dissected ghost remains.
He walked up to the portal and stopped. On the other side of those doors was his home...his old friends, Sidney included...and maybe even the real Danny. He could step through and be back home, but he knew he wouldn't be able to survive. Ghosts could be a vicious bunch if they needed to be, and he didn't have any ghost powers to defend himself.
He could only hope Danny was faring okay.
Phantom turned to head upstairs, but he paused in his tracks and winced as yet another memory assaulted him. But...something felt different about this one.
He felt someone's hand holding his. It was large, covering his completely--or maybe his hands were small. There was the sharp smell of antiseptic and the steady beating of a heart monitor.
The person lying in the bed in front of him was horrible to look at. His skin was covered with green blisters that almost seemed to glow. He gripped the hand holding his own and hid behind the standing person's body, trying to form a barrier between himself and the hospital bed.
The human holding his hand--a woman, he remembered--said something muddled through his memory and urged him forward to the person in the bed. He didn't want to get close. The bed towered above his small form, but the woman carried him and set him down on the bed next to the prone, blistered body.
The prostrate person--he was hesitant to call him a human--was breathing ruggedly. The green bumps on his skin seemed to glow with every breath he took. His eyes were closed, but as he watched with terror, they opened to reveal completely red, glowing eyes.
The last thing he remembered was crying and attempting to flee--then the memory ended, and Phantom was thrust back into the Fentons' lab.
Phantom gasped and fell onto the ground. Sweat poured out his body, and he shivered. Those red eyes were still lingering in his vision when he heard hurried footsteps descend the stairs.
"Danny? What are you doing down there?" Jazz's voice came.
Her red hair and concerned teal eyes appeared in his sight as she tried to help him up. Phantom weakly slapped her hands away and said, "I'm fine."
"You don't look fine," Jazz argued.
True, he wasn't fine. But he didn't want to talk about it, least of all with Jazz, and he knew she would prod. He grumbled again, "I'm fine. I don't need your help."
He tried to stand up and immediately fell back down. Jazz raised her eyebrows at him. He sighed and accepted her help.
He leaned against her, shaking all the way, as she carried them up the stairs and back into the kitchen. She kept her mouth shut. Phantom was grateful for that.
She set him down on the nearest chair. He leaned his fists against his lap and breathed.
"Do you--"
"I don't want to talk," Phantom answered before she could finish.
Jazz reluctantly left him alone. He had to admit, Danny's sister wasn't a bad human.
Phantom finally got his breathing down, though his heart still thumped against his chest. What was that? None of Danny's memories he experienced had ever left him so shaken.
He thought back to what Sidney told him. He had been alive before, but he had forgotten all about his life. Now...
Phantom closed his eyes and gulped.
He had experienced a memory, but it wasn't Danny's.

TASK 001:
FLAUNT Magazine sits down w/ Amethyst Pryce!
Amethyst is struggling to hear over a blow dryer. We’re in a small photography studio in at PRYCE Production Studios and the 26-year-old beauty is honing her look before the shoot. Everyone was a little late (traffic), but now the space is humming with garment hangers sliding across clothes racks and paper grocery bags shuffling snacks to their designated areas. Amethyst is seated in a sweatshirt, juggling two stylists preparing her for a shoot, interview questions, and FaceTime calls from a teenage sneaker broker and influencer. Last night she was battling with her event planner trying to iron out details for her upcoming event for the famed PRYCE Productions, and she’s preparing for a huge roll out to reintroduce the company to this generation. But despite this dizzying to-do list, the Bay Area native is relaxed, almost unbothered. It’s just another day in Amethyst’s world. Her brother Akeem Pryce is nearby, keeping her sane by forcing her into rap cyphers with him. This puts a lot into perspective but the question still remains: who is Amethyst Pryce?
Interviewer: For those who don’t know, tell us a little about who you are.
A: I’m the daughter of Allen Pryce, one of the most critically acclaimed producer/directors in the movie and TV industry. My brother, Akeem and I are the heirs to PRYCE Production.
Interviewer: That’s a crazy world to be apart of, dating must be crazy? Do you find it harder to date?
A: Well I think I make it hard, I don’t allow myself to make one person a priority.
Interviewer: Now you said ‘person’, does that mean you aren’t totally hetero?
A: Amethyst smirks, before giving a simple head nod. Women are nice to look at, can you blame me? Don’t get me wrong I love men, but it’s something about loving a woman that just... I can’t explain it.
Interviewer: So in your own words, what do you identify as?
A: I’m bisexual, gender wise I am female and I use she/her.
Interviewer: So earlier you mentioned that you were an heir, let’s expand on that and your role at PRYCE Productions.
A: Sure, I have taken on the role as Producer/Screenwriter. I’ve pretty much been a writer my whole life. I’ve always loved having writing as an outlet especailly with everything I’ve been through. The producer role was introduced to me by my father, who got me the opportunity to intern for Quentin Tarantino.
Interviewer: Wait, THE Quentin Taratino?
A: Yes, Mr. Pulp Fiction himself.
Interviewer: I have to admit, that’s pretty impressive. How did he introduce you guys and did you even know how big of deal that was at the time?
A: The day of my 17th birthday, and it was the summer, July 7th. Cancer gang baby! So I was old enough to know like who he was and what that opportunity would mean for me. I just remember my Dad calling me into his office and there he was. Quentin Tarantino in a tie dye shirt. And the rest was history.
Interviewer: So I’m sure you gained a lot knowledge and experience from both him and your father. Are you afraid of letting them down? That’s a lot of pressure for someone who isn’t even in their 30s yet.  Do you have any fears at all?
A: I can’t lie and say I don’t feel any pressure but pressure makes diamonds and I’m already a gem. I think I’m just afraid to not accomplish everything I want to professionally and personally before I die.
Interviewer: So, what are your aspirations:
A: I want to make my first million dollars from a film or TV show that I wrote and produced by myself, no Daddy involved. I got all this old money, I wanna be able to say I got some of it on my own. I want to find love someday and have a big ass family. I really want to have a house in the Philippines as well. A big ass crib.
Interviewer: Most of your goals seem pretty family-oriented, which is surprising because you’re very driven and flashy. Some could mistake you for boujie, especially with your upbringing. What do you have to say about that?
A: I get that assumption a lot. Crazy thing is, I’m only so ‘flashy’ because of my mother. I remember watching her get decked out in the flyest shit to go to galas and movie premieres with my father. She was an amazing host and always had us looking fly whenever she hosted parties. I get my sense of style from her. She was everything. I’m not boujie though, maybe a lil girly but hey.
Interviewer: Some people may be familiar with the tragic loss of your mother, but to some this is all new information so if it’s alright, can you talk a bit about that?
A: My mother was diagnosed with stage 3 brain cancer, the proper term is Glioma. My brother and I didn’t know because she begged my father not to tell us. So we basically went on about life like nothing was wrong. Eventually her condition worsened and she ended up in intensive care in the hospital, soon after that she was gone.
Interviewer: That must have been tough, I couldn’t imagine dealing with something like that. I’m so sorry for your loss.
A: Thank you but I didn’t lose her, I gained an angel. I talk to my mom every chance I get. On days I feel like I can’t get through, I just feel her presence and her love. It’s funny because even in the afterlife, she remains the glue of our family.
Interviewer: That’s a beautiful way to look at it, you have this strength about you that just glows. How are you not married yet?
A: Shit, you tell me honey? If you let my best friend Ashtyn tell it, I’m a grandma and a prude.
Interviewer: Are you really?
A: Hello no, but she thinks I work too much and don’t make enough time to play. And she’s not wrong, but I just feel like if you like me then you should be fightin’ for my attention. Chase me and I’ll love you forvever. A girl likes to feel appreciated.
Interviewer: Well, you heard it here first ladies and gentlemen, if you want a chance with Amethyst you’re gonna have to come correct.
A: Period! Nah but I just want some romance, like 4 page letter, getting caught in the rain kinda romance.
Interviewer: Well since we’re on the topic, what are your likes and dislikes?
A: I like wings and I love sushi. I dislike waiting and I hate repeating myself.
Interviewer: So impatient and greedy? Got it.
A: Oh, wow. I can’t say you’re wrong.
Interviewer: If you had to describe your social media presence, what would you say?
A: My twitter is a bunch of inside jokes and me rambling at 3 A.M. Snapchat was originally just for my close friends but I’ve opened it up for my fans so I can take them through my work days at PRYCE Production studios and just my work days and trips in general. My instagram is my favorite app to use because I get to showcase my style. I love to put looks together. I’m the type of girl to beat my face and get dressed just to go get a snack from the kitchen.
Interviewer: Now take us through your phone, what’s going on there?
A: I have three phones. One is a business phone, for all holllywood friends, contacts and connections. One phone is kinda like a business phone but I use it to stay in contact with staff at PRYCE Production studios. And the last one, of course, is a personal phone for friends, family and a boo thang when I get one.
Interviewer: Okay, I love to end interviews with this question becasuse the answer says a lot more about you than anything else will. What is your music taste like?
A: Oh that’s a hard one. I really love all genres. I can go from Biggie to Mary J. Blige, to Old Dominion, to Elton John, to Queen to Frank Ocean, to Juvenile, to Too Short... It all depends on the mood I’m in or the mindset I need to be in at that moment.
Interviewer: I think that is officially one of my favorite answers. Amethyst, thank you for sitting down with me today. I can’t what to see what you do with PRYCE Productions
A: Thank you, it was a pleasure being here with you, truly. This was fun.

PRE- FINAL 2 EPISODES THOUGHTS & ENDGAME SPEC! :)
Okay, I know nerves are running high and especially so among the crowd considering stuff like PR around Misha/Cas and “script adjustments” but having spent the past 24 hours re-watching the post-hiatus eps I am feeling pretty secure and positive going into the endgame! This is just my personal speculation based on my reading of the episodes themselves, just for fun and for me to check back with later as we near the end! So, here is what I’m expecting/hoping for by the finale (under the cut since this is kinda long):
General Spec
All of them live in the end (not counting stuff like death/resurrection or if in the last episode we get like a many-years-later-in-heaven kinda thing)
Cas comes back, probably human or close to human
Dean and Sam separate in the end--not estranged, just resolving into healthy independence while still loving each other and being in each other’s lives; no longer trapped in eternal tragic codependency
Endgame Sam and Eileen (a big part of the former point)
Endgame Dean and Cas -- *see below for notes
Even if Jack’s still a cosmic entity he will 1) survive, and 2) be allowed to live life as a kid and not be constantly chained to cosmic duty
Monsters and magic and stuff will remain; the afterlife/cosmic order will just be rebalanced like Amara’s wanted all along. I care less about the mytharc stuff than the characters so I haven’t thought much about this beyond the point that I think the guys will still hunt, just without the constant Apocalypse threats (Dean likes hunting, Sam likes magic, both of them love helping people, there are good ‘monsters’ like Garth or even Jack--they just need more than that and they need to have peace and happiness of their own, without constant impending cosmic doom)
The ending will be happy and I will c r y !!
The show will at long last spring for Zepp for the final scene bonus points if it’s on the mixtape!
The Biggie: Cas Was Right All Along and What That Means for Dean
The biggest thing that strikes me on this re-watch is Dean’s ongoing anger issues and struggle with truth. The root of Dean’s anger is that he feels trapped and oppressed by his life--highlighted by his conversations with Sam, Cas, Jack, and even Amara. As Dean repeatedly states, he believes that this oppression has been created by Chuck controlling them, pulling the strings. He fails to accept that they do have free will, and that the basis of free will is love. Chuck may be omniscient and control time and space, but he doesn’t control the feelings they have for each other (same as he didn’t orchestrate Amara’s thing with Dean). He is able to manipulate them to the extent that he can introduce obstacles through his powers and (as writer/creator) his deep understanding of their flaws. He is adept at playing on the weaknesses created by the trauma in their lives to push them toward outcomes he desires. However, Team Free Will’s proven ability to repeatedly thwart his narrative is based on the love that they have for each other, which is the true driver of their actions. It’s no accident that right before Cas tells Dean that he’s the embodiment of love, Billie tells him that he’s the embodiment of chaos. Love is what breaks the divine order of the system. LIKE CAS SAYS IN 15x02, Chuck may have built the maze, but they are the ones running it. They are real. So why does Dean feel so oppressed? Because he cannot, like Amara says in Gimme Shelter, accept his life. He can’t accept his truth. His self-hatred is the opposite of the love with which he breaks the bonds of the system to save others; and until he sheds this he can never be free, Chuck or no Chuck. Chuck isn’t the one oppressing Dean; Dean is. Because he has not given himself permission to fully shed the rest of John Winchester’s ghost, fully shed the scars of his time as a torturer in Hell (brought up by Belphagor just this season), fully shed the idea that he can never have the kinds of relationships with his loved ones that he truly desires, Dean is still trapped. He should take what Sam and Cas have each told him about himself in the previous two episodes to heart if he is to release himself.
*Dean and Cas
I am fully endgame positive, but not 100% sure where we’ll land in terms of like the...definition?...of their relationship? At the bare minimum I expect it to be made explicit, as in not just left implied or in the subtext, that what Dean feels for Cas is not just love as a brother or love as a best friend, but something more than that, even if the show ends at a place where Dean is like, still coming to terms with everything and they’re gonna take it slow. I do expect them to be together in the end though and do not think they’ll go with love-declaration-to-permanent-separation or anything like that as the final chapter of their relationship. I expect we’ll have a better idea what their endgame will look like post-15x19.
PR and Covid Stuff
The PR about Cas being permadead is just that...PR. If anything, it strengthens my feeling that when we get Cas back, it’ll be as a human (which has always been my ideal ending for him--which I think is the ideal ending for him!), so that has me kinda pumped!
Re: covid--the kind of script adjustments that they would have made to accommodate shooting restrictions would imo have no impact on what they intended for Cas. This kind of thing would be more relevant to stuff like bringing back a bunch of old guest stars for a final appearance--think things like a memory or vision of all the people they saved (or their souls), or if they wanted to resurrect a bunch of familiar angels and demons from the empty to fight Chuck or whatever. Like a big montage group scene kinda thing. There are limits on the number of people you can cram into a set at once under the new restrictions. It would absolutely not effect anything essential like the conclusion of the storyline of a beloved main character (and also they are not giving Cas a tragic ending that is also bury your gays, c’mon friends! they just aren’t). If you are someone who is worried bc you pay attention to PR/what actors say/etc, I would suggest you consider reports that Misha told people he had five days of shooting left post- wrapping 15x18. That is a substantial amount of shooting that suggests real story content, not some single random shot of Cas smiling beatifically at Dean when he reaches heaven or something that could non-meaningfully be cut without changing the main story. As far as I know, kissing is still allowed given proper safety and testing procedures are followed. I would love to see a deancas kiss (tho imo it’s only ‘necessary’ insofar as shutting up the idiots who are still claiming the confession was platonic) and I think a saileen reunion without one would feel weird--but these are not endgame requirements for me for either ship and I mention it only because I’ve seen people speculating about whether it’s allowed or whatever.

Since it’s been a while since I’ve posted this, here’s a little introduction and PSA for Jack-O’s blog:
🎃
Just to get this front-and-center, I want nothing to do with maps, LBGTQIA-phobes, transmeds, exclusionists, terfs, racists, and anyone who is even complacent with pedophilia or incest.  If you fall within any of those categories, don’t interact with my blog.  And hey, do yourself a solid and learn about why those leanings not only hurt you and the people around you, but society as a whole.   Hate and abuse are not welcome here.
Also no shipping/romantic rp’s with Jack-O, please.  She’s got a lot of love in her charred little heart, but it’s all platonic.  And it’s going to stay that way.
🎃
Multi-fandom and OC friendly! Seriously, OC’s are amazing and I love having Jack-O meet them!
Mostly long-ish form rp’s/replies.  I ramble a lot … in case you couldn’t tell from this post, heh.  Sorry.  I do try to tag longer threads with #long post once they take a couple swipes to scroll through.
I’m prone to fewer/slower replies, especially during weekdays.  Fyi, mun lives in the Pacific Time Zone, and is more likely to be active in the evening.
This blog can tread some pretty dark/angsty/violent/emotional ground and I’m fine with that … but I know not everyone is.  I try to tag the big triggers, but if there is ever anything anyone wants me to tag - no matter if it’s a trigger or squick or whatever - please let me know.
And since we’re here: please, if you feel like you need to unfollow for any reason, you do you boo!  That’s not just for subject matter but also because I’m an adult mun and I know that’s something that not everyone’s cool with. Your well-being will always be more important than following me - or anyone, for that matter! You are the curator of your Tumblr experience and if I can help you keep it safe by tagging or just not being part of it, that’s totally ok!
🎃
Jack-O: she/her. Was human and female-presenting back in ye olden days (aside from that – up to interpretation). Besides her murder she doesn’t really remember her life, but she does get the faintest sensations of déjà vu that call back to who she once was.
Mun: she/her (but I’m comfortable with nb adjectives like they, too).  Ace panro and more-or-less cis (I think?).  Adult.  Absolute nerd with too many hobbies and never enough time.  RP-main is @Malady-red-rp (’Malady’), non-RP-main is @Inga-DON-Studio.
🎃
Jack-O is based on the non-canon Halloween-y version of Nightmare Chica from FNAF4: The Halloween Update with … a lot of creative license thrown in.
Basic backstory below if you want to read it (it’s sort of ramble-y - eventually I’ll try to simplify it but hopefully it does the job for now):
Essentially, she’s a several-hundred-year-old dream-demon (aka a Nightmare in her universe) who took the shape of her prey’s greatest terrors and fed on their fear via relentless, ongoing ‘hunts’ in the mindscape and in waking nightmares.  She would usually be freed from her chosen form once her prey’s mind was too shattered-apart from the constant assault to maintain a singular, cohesive personification of their fears, but on that last hunt … the situation never reached that conclusion. Thus, she’s stuck in the form that The Crying Child’s mind created for her before his death as a result of complications from The Bite of ’83 and his weakened state from the Nightmares’ attacks.  Some things went down with the other Halloween Nightmares that night, resulting in her complete abandonment of the hunt and what it was to be a Nightmare (the birb done woke).  Thirty years of coming to grips with all the evil she had done over the centuries and one hell of a massive guilt complex, she wants –more than anything- to try to put some good back into the world, even if she knows it will never balance out what she has taken from it.
She awoke to October’s calling on Oct. 1st, 2018 to find herself in a multiverse of sorts- and just kind of rolled with it.   There were plenty of familiar faces – and many, many new ones – and she quickly embraced the chance at a new start, silently promising to try to stand up against the literal and metaphorical representations of what she once was.  As she made friends who have become the truest sense of a found family, she has become fiercely protective of the people she cares about … even if sometimes she’s a little lost on how to really help them.  Hey, just cuz she’s a few hundred years old doesn’t mean that there isn’t still plenty left for her to learn - and she knows it.
I do reference back to some past events (like Ink Stains) and she mentions other muses on occasion – some no longer active around here but remembered as cherished friends who left a lasting, important impact on her.  No, you’re not expected to know about them.  It’s just an important little part of who she is- that she doesn’t let go of things easily now that she has people and memories worth holding onto…
(The Ink Stains event was a biggie because she was one of the corrupted, and for the first time it forced her unwillingly back into something like the Nightmare she once was.  It also cemented in her mind how important the people in her afterlife are to her, and how much she needs them.  So, mentions of ink and corruption still find their way into conversations fairly often.)

OH MY GOD! i wrote this thing back in like, last february and never posted it. so. here have the bnha characters in the good place au!
featuring ochako as eleanor, iida as chidi, kirishima as jason, bakugo as tahani, and deku as a whole host of things including kamilah and janet XD
relationships include: past tsuchako
this is disjointed and rambly but there’s some good stuff so i hope you enjoy it
ochako uraraka dies. then, she wakes up in an office building starring at “everything is fine!” in glaring, yellow letters. some weird old white man in a suit with a polka dotted die explains things to her. you know, how she died. how it was unpleasant and embarrassing. but now she’s in the afterlife, apparently, and things are hunky dory. this is the good place.
there was backstory before this happened, of course. in order to die, someone had to live.
before ochako was dead, she was alive. she was a little girl who wanted to grow up to become a hero to support her parents, but they tell her that she should be a hero to help other people, not them.
they die in a tragic car incident, ochako gets shuffled through the foster system, and grabs tightly onto that idea of becoming a hero to make her parents proud and be able to support herself and give herself a good life.
in american society, people cannot get provisional hero licenses until they graduate from high school and they cannot become licensed heroes until completing a bachelors degree. kids who can get provisional licenses right out of high school are much preferred for hero courses at colleges, and it’s nearly impossible to get a provisional license right out of high school unless you were able to attend a specialized hero prep school.
ochako is a foster kid in arizona. ofc she can’t afford prep school, does not get a provisional license, and cannot make it into a hero course. she studies her ass off for the next year, taking a gap year, and she’s able to pass the entrance exams and agrees to sign away her soul in student loans. but the program so heavily favors kids that had prep school experience and already had their provisional licenses. while working and trying to put herself through school, she just can’t keep up with the rigorous schedule and the bias against her.
ochako drops out of the hero program after a year of failing to stay afloat, and she just wants a god damn stable job. so, she goes into sales. not exactly sales that are on the up and up either. think. selling fake drugs to old people.
she gets into a relationship with tsuyu asui and they bond over failed attempts at hero careers. tsuyu decided to go into counseling instead and is still trying to make her best effort to be A Good Person TM and ochako gives it a try for awhile, but it starts making her feel inadequate pretty quickly and she gets defensive.
tsuyu psycho-analyzes ochako more than ochako’s ready to deal with and easily figures out her issues and tries to like, solve them. ew, and ochako ends the relationship and falls back into her selling fake drugs to old people ways before dying in a blaze of shopping cart related glory. it was apparently, hilarious, because after the shopping carts hit her she subconsciously used her quirk to send them up in a shopping cart mushroom cloud. which crushed her again.
yeah ochako’s really glad that she can’t remember any of that.
“so,” michael the architect says, “would you like to meet your soulmate?” she’s had a lot of casual flings and hookups, but never anything serious other than tsuyu. so. yeah she’s pretty interested in meeting her soulmate.
he’s kind of hot, in a nerdy as shirt way.
“this is your soulmate, iida tenya.”
“is that first name first or first name last?” ochako asks. she’s japanese american and knows enough japanese to be able to puzzle out that his name IS japanese, but she can’t for the life of her tell what order that’s in.
“she’s american,” michael says.
“ah,” he says, “then i’m tenya iida.”
he gives her a little rundown of his life, and apparently, the life of a moral philosophy professor is actually... pretty intense. at least it is when you started off life wanting to be a pro hero.
“you mean you almost killed the hero killer?” admittedly, ochako doesn’t pay all that much attention to world events, but the hero killer fiasco was sort of a big deal. a serial killer only targeting professional heroes? and for reasons he thought were completely justified? that was the biggest news story for at least a week, even in america.
“he paralyzed my brother,” tenya says, “i’d never been so angry before in my life. i truly think that if he hadn’t beaten me, i would have.”
“wow,” ochako says, “that’s dark.” tenya nods.
“i was lucky my friends pulled me out of it.” he talks about his friends saving him, friends that apparently include PRO HERO DEKU. which, like, ochako’s not that invested in the japanese hero scene, but everyone knows about pro hero deku.
the dude worked his way onto the hero scene with a quirk that hurt him whenever he used it, took over all might’s position, and admitted to being quirkless until he was fifteen. he used almost all of the immense amount of money that he made as a hero building up his own charities, doing work for community organizations, and trying to support disabled and quirkless organizations around his country. he’s the kiss babies save people then go home and continue doing favors for people when he gets there type.
deku was a good guy. like, a REALLY good one. he was one of the most famous heroes in the entire world when ochako died, and she’s pretty sure that he was going to take the number one spot from that explosive asshole any day. hell, he was even always NICE to the guy, acted like they were friends even though the explosive shitstick always treated him like dirt.
ochako might have had a little bit of a hero worship crush on the guy, okay. it’s not that big of a deal.
“so then how did you become a professor of moral philosophy? sounds like you had a good gig going at that hero school of yours.” U.A. is the best known hero high school in the entire world. she’d sort of dreamt of going to U.A. herself as a kid.
“i realized that morality is... a lot more complicated than i thought it was before. i made a rash decision and it almost cost me my soul. hero work is complicated and muddy and i didn’t want to be left running around in circles doing it, never knowing what was right. instead i dedicated my life to studying what’s right. now i always try to make the most ethical possible decision. at all times.”
“that sounds forking exhausting,” ochako says. tenya looks shocked.
“forking. FORKING,” ochako glares, “you know i don’t mean forking right?”
“yes,” he says, “i do. the good place does not let you curse. many of us do not like it.” well. that’s good to know that he looks like a nerd and he IS one.
“well i forking do dumbash,” she says, “do you think that’s going to darn me to heck?”
“dark impulses aren’t what make people good or bad,” tenya says, “acting on them does.”
tenya iida, ochako soon realizes, talks a big game for someone who can’t decide on a flavor of yogurt because of the possible ethical ramifications.
kirishima opens his eyes and sees a smiling, old white man. that’s generally not a good sign. normally smiling white people are either attorneys or librarians who are about to scold him for falling asleep on the library couch again.
“you, jianyu li, are dead.” kirishima almost says “dope” but then he realizes that it is not, in fact dope. the guy asks if he wants to not talk because of some taiwanese monk thing, and seeing that kirishima is most definitely NOT a taiwanese monk he decides to go with it and not give anything away.
he goes a couple of weeks before he finally talks to the girl with the big eyes and the auburn hair who wasn’t supposed to here in the good place either.
“oh god,” she says, “please tell me that you’re smart enough to get us out of this. please”
“um, maybe? i’m from florida”
her eyes widen and she whispers “no”
“my name’s kirishima,” he tells her, “or some of my boys call me ‘ro. it’s short for eijiro. no biggie tho.”
“we are so forked,” ochako says.
he’s american dawg. if you really get into, japanese american, but he’s not taiwanese. that’s probably racist. weird, racist algorithm
“you, bakugo katsuki, are dead”
“dead?”
“yes, dead.”
“i forking died?” bakugo demands.
“yes, but you were the number one pro hero at the time of your death and now you’re in the good place. i think you can think of that as a victory.” well, that does make him feel a little better. at least deku never succeeded him in the rankings, even if he’s number one hero now.
“forking,” he says, glaring at the air, “forking! you know i don’t forking mean forking, right?”
“i’m aware,” michael says.
michael goes onto explain all the rules of the good place, including the not a robot not a boy assistant that can cater to their every whim. an assistant who just so happens to look exactly like someone bakugo would prefer to never see again.
“FORK!” bakugo screams.
“i am deku,” he says, smiling and tilting his head like a curious owl, “how can i help you?”
“wait,” ochako says, eyes widening with glee, “he looks just like deku.”
“uraraka!” bakugo shouts. ochako shrugs.
“if you had a sex robot of your celebrity crush are you saying you wouldn’t go to town? come on, ground zero. i’m only human.” bakugo looks horrified.
“not a sex robot.”
“but are you a robot not for sex?” she asks.
“not a robot,” he chirps, “also i am sentient but do not consent to sex with you.”
“oh,” ochako says.
“that’s called rape, and you know where rapists go?”
not a sex robot smiles as he chirps, “the bad place!” ochako shudders.
“uh,” she asks, “what exactly... happens in the bad place?” deku opens his mouth and the screams of a thousand tortured souls come out.
“that is what happens in the bad place,” he says, “but you do not need to worry about that. the good place’s algorithm put you here.” ochako giggles nervously.
“IT SURE DID”
“i can’t get away from forking deku,” bakugo says, “even in heaven.” deku smiles at him.
“actually, you can get away from the original, pro hero deku. i am only a source of all the knowledge in the universe.” not-deku smiles widely but it doesn’t reach his eyes. it’s damn creepy.
“why the fork do you look like him?”
“they chose pro hero deku because he’s the most popular figure currently on earth. they thought this face would set the residents at ease.”
“well it forking doesn’t,” bakugo says.
“i am sorry that you feel that way. is there anyway that i can help you?” not-deku asks.
“change!” bakugo demands, grabbing not-deku roughly by the arms.
“i cannot do that,” not-deku says, “now that i’ve been programmed with this face, i am stuck with it. it literally will not come off.” then he grins again.
“fork you,” bakugo says. deku just smiles again. if he thought that the thing had feelings he’d be sure it was trying to piss him off.
bakugo slams his palm into his face.
“my soulmate is a forking idiot,” he says.
“you just figured that out?” ochako asks, snorting.
“holy motherforking shirtballs,” ochako says, “we’re in the bad place.”
“that can’t be true,” bakugo says, “i wouldn’t go to the bad place.” he was a pro hero. despite his flaws, he did a lot of good.
“you think that you belonged in the good place?” michael says, and he laughs so hard he almost cries, “you- bakugo katsuki? you were just a hero so that you could be the best at something and try to pound deku into the ground. you never even used your platform to try to help people. it was never about helping people. it was always about your ego and your need to destroy deku.” bakugo feels an uneasiness in his stomach as he realizes that michael is right. he doesn’t deserve to go to the good place. he was always a shitty person.
“what about me? what did i do to deserve to be here?” iida asks. then a horrified realization shows on his face.
“oh no,” iida says, “the almond milk.” michael glares at him.
“it wasn’t the almond milk, iida. it was everything you ever did after you tried to kill the herokiller. you made a mistake, and then you over-corrected in the worst possible way. you went from trying to help people to doing nothing but thinking about your own ego-centric view of morality. you could never make a decision, and that hurt the people around you.”
michael snaps his fingers and the world goes white.
“doug forcette? melissa shield? midoriya izuku?” shaun laughs, “you think any of them are going to the good place?” shaun laughs and laughs as they send him through the portal back to the bad place.
“you all stay here,” michael orders.
“don’t poof anything,” not-deku orders, “my void feels weird with all these people in here.”
“what do you mean? deku’s not going to the good place?”
“oh no,” the accountant says, “there’s a negative 10,000 point value for becoming a pro hero. deku’s doing well, all things considering, but he can’t overcome that handicap.”
“what about all might?”
“oh he’s in the bad place,” the accountant says, like saying that the symbol of peace is burning in hell is just a normal bit of trivia.
“not even ALL MIGHT went to the good place?” michael asks, his eyes widening.
“oh no no no,” the accountant says, “pro heroes are too messy and selfish. for every good action that they take, they cause so much harm. their wealth is a drain on society. even the most virtuous end up doing more harm than good.”
“there were some bets going around that bakugo katsuki might surpass endeavor’s record for highest negative score a pro hero ever racked up, but he died too quickly. it was a real shame.”
“tsuyu asui?” michael asks. from ochako’s memories of the woman, she seems like a fine specimen of humanity.
“no,” the accountant says, “therapists often end up messing up more than they fix.”
“well, is midoriya inko headed for the good place?”
“no,” the accountant says, “motherhood is messy business, michael.”
“malala yousafzai?”
“activism is even messier.”
“how many people got into the good place this year?”
“none”
“last year?”
“none?”
“ten years ago”
“none.”
“when was the last time that anyone went to the good place?” michael asks, his voice rising in fear. the accountant does some typing, some searching. then he comes up with his answer.
“571 years ago,” the accountant says blithely.
“oh shirt,” michael says.
“do you want to save people or not?” bakugo demands.
“of course i do, kacchan,” deku says, “that’s what i’ve always wanted.”
DON’T REMEMBER WHERE I WAS GOING WITH THAT ENDING BUT HERE YOU GO

So. Dont know if you still want to talk about it but I literally just got out of theaters to see Doctor Sleep and just!!!! Got so many thoughts like holey batman. I appreciate mark's attempt at paying homage to both the books and movies. I still wish so badly that jack from the books could have gotten his small bit of redemption but I have to acknowledge that movie jack was in too deep to get it and just am so happy Danny was with Wendy in the end. I've got so many feelings I cant put into words
YES ALWAYS PLEASE
Under a cut for spoilers for movie and book
Like I totally get why they needed to reference the 80s movie so I knew there were gonna be some creative liberties
I was SO SAD THAT THEY KILLED BILLY AND DAVID OMG. And that John Dalton wasn’t a bigger part. But I really liked how they redid Billy to be a mix of Billy and Casey Kingsley? I don’t know who that actor was unfortunately but his performance was great. BUT GOD HOW THEY KILLED HIM I wasn’t expecting it and it made me so sad. The way he looked at Dan!
I agree! I would have loved to see that moment in the book where Dan and the ghost of his father blow kisses to each other after the battle. I would have also loved for them to keep the detail of Dan actually being blood related to Lucy and Abra to make that moment even more powerful.
But at the same time, I like how they basically made the ending of the movie the real ending of The Shining novel, if that makes sense? While still keeping it pretty in tune with the general ‘defeat Rose’ of the book. And I LOVED the twist of the ghosts in Dan’s head killing her instead of her cycling after the push off the outlook.
And GOD, that moment of Abra saying she won’t leave Dan, and that being enough to get him out of the hotel’s grasp, and KNOWING that’s what happened in The Shining novel between Dan and Jack!!!!! It was so emotional. and such a good homage for us bookworms.
I loved the girl who played Abra, I hope her career takes OFF. She played the part so well.
And while I wish we got the happy ending that is in the book with Abra and her Uncle Dan and his newfound halfsister and David all living happily ever after, I appreciate that Dan saw his mother in death. Especially more so now after thinking about it, because I saw a post yesterday that talked about how Dan said (in the film) that he couldn’t even look at his mother as she died. But there in his own death, she was right there to greet him and go with him into the afterlife.
And back to ghost Jack I would have liked for him to be in that moment too but like you said, in the movie universe Jack was too far gone, and damn, even Dan talking to ghost Jack/Lloyd in the bar was such a tough emotional scene that just hit you right in the heart. because it reminds you of the childhood trauma Dan went through and still carries with him? and he was so childlike in that scene refusing to take the drink?
and while I was bummed that they killed Dan in the end, I teared up so bad when Abra told Lucy that Dan and her father were okay. Like i don’t know why but I did. And I also had the biggest grin when Abra went to go deal with the ghost woman in the bathtub like little Dan had.
and I like that twist too? That Dan finally released the spirits in his head and they took care of Rose no biggie, but instead of just being able to suck them all back into his head at once, they overpowered Dan too? Like, I don’t know why but I feel like that was almost...more realistic in a sense. And the fact that Abra got saddled with them after. It just...all made sense, how the filmmakers dealt with them and made that all work. Though I do also miss again that ‘happy ending’ of the book where Dan was free of all the spirits for real and forever.
And I love the book and basically everything about it, and while I miss a lot of the details in the movie universe/adaption, I thought the adaption was just so well made and well integrated into both universes? You just don’t see adaptions like that anymore nowadays! It just blew me away. I mean, even those reenactement actors for the scenes of the original Shining movie - those actors/costume designers/editors/etc did AMAZING. I honestly wasn’t sure if someone of them were the original scenes or not when they started. (though I’d be lying if I wasn’t secretly hoping for a Jack Nicholson cameo SOMEWHERE, like with the original Danny actor (he was apparently in the baseball game scene, but I forgot to look for him))
this is also very long because I’m with you - I have SO MANY EMOTIONS ABOUT THIS MOVIE. I am honestly debating going to see it again like. next weekend haha

if you heard screams of rage sometime in the past 12 hours, that was me. I decided to look up Eleanor Cobham in a history book I already knew was shitty (Mary McGrigor’s The Sister Queen: Isabella and Catherine de Valois).
First, her name is given as Elizabeth in the index. But no biggie, because this is the book couldn’t even stick to a consistent spelling of Catherine and said Henry V and Catherine de Valois made their entry into Paris in 1520.
Then it’s absolutely vile about her.
And I got ranty.
Tumblr media
okay, doing this chronologically. so this author has a hotline to the afterlife and knows, okay, Catherine de Valois’s precise emotional state at any given moment, but Eleanor is only “reputedly beautiful”. *eye roll* And for the record, those kids are in all likelihood not Eleanor’s because SHE WAS KNOWN TO BE INFERTILE. JFC, if she had kids, they would have been legitimised when she and Humphrey married. And no, magic isn’t real.
Yes, what happened with Jacqueline was really shitty. It is actually a lot more complicated than “he abandoned her to fuck Eleanor” since until their marriage was annulled, he was trying to aid her (maybe not as well as he could have done but he wasn’t just sitting on his arse). The tragedy of Jacqueline’s situation is that the moment Henry V died the attempt to reclaim her inheritance was doomed to failure and politically untenable but neither she or Humphrey realised that.
Regardless, if Eleanor and Humphrey blatantly had an affair in front of Jacqueline, that’s especially shitty. But we don’t know they did. We don’t know anything about their affair until it was “known” in 1425. Personally, I like to headcanon a polyamorous relationship that went boom due to personal strain (e.g. the difficulty in the Hainault campaign, Jacqueline’s apparent stillbirth in 1424).
And we have very little evidence of Eleanor’s personality. We have NO EVIDENCE that she was mean or ill-tempered. The anonymous chronicler is obviously writing in the aftermath of the accusations of witchcraft which most historians think are bullshit, designed to exploit Eleanor’s irregular position (i.e. a minor gentlewoman who was married far above her station) and her unpopularity. Their marriage might have been viewed as incompatible simply because of the vast differences in their social standings - Gloucester was son, brother and uncle of kings, Eleanor was a knight’s daughter. Maybe we should consider that narrative as classist?
And we have NO EVIDENCE Gloucester regretted marrying her. He never said anything against her, even during her trial when it would have been expedient to do so. There is no record he cheated on her or took a mistress - even after their divorce. There is an account he went to the parliament at Bury St Edmunds where he was arrested for treason and died in custody because he had been promised a pardon for her. AUTHOR, HE LOVED HER.
Tumblr media
No. This wasn’t “thanks to her position”, this was thanks to the the lack of precedents for trying a peeress for felony and treason. And someone was probably pissed off that they couldn’t kill Eleanor because the law was changed in 1442 so peeresses could be charged with and executed for treason. YAY.
“merely made to walk through the streets of ‘London like a common prositute’ before being sentenced to life imprisonment under strict supervision”
"merely”
Look, public humiliation and shaming - being made through London bare-headed (some accounts say bare-footed as well, personally I doubt it) - and then life imprisonment is infinitely more humane than being burnt to death or drowned.  But it’s still a horrible thing to have to go through given that Eleanor was likely to be guilty of nothing more than buying fertility potions, i.e. she was guilty of wanting to have a baby.  One (modern) account of her imprisonment states Eleanor had to be strictly watched so she couldn’t kill herself. “merely” my arse.
Also, why did state her penance walk made her “like a common prositute”? Why? (Also: CITE YOUR QUOTATION.)
And the whole thing reads as “Eleanor totally deserved to be burnt at the stake and die horribly but got off because ‘privledge’” which is disgusting. NO ONE  DESERVES TO DIE LIKE THAT, YOU HORRIBLE PERSON. And if we are want to talk about privilege, let’s talk about the fact Eleanor Cobham has no voice in the historical narrative. Let’s talk about the misogynistic AND classist narratives that regurgitated again and again and haven’t changed much since the 15th century that tells us that Eleanor Cobham was just a slutty commoner who didn’t have the epic romance like Katherine Swynford or the empowering queen narrative like Elizabeth Woodville to mean we have to think she’s awesome-sauce. Let’s talk about the fact that Catherine de Valois is now celebrated for marrying a Welsh commoner for love while Eleanor is a commoner derided for marrying a man far above her status, most likely out of love.
You know what? I am so fucking sick of authors, especially women authors, pouring misogynistic vitriol or just regurgitating it on women to make their chosen women look better.
Not on Eleanor, but hey, it was on the same page and it made me MAD.
Tumblr media
Oh, nice. Nice.
Catherine’s own will, written by her, states she had suffered a “long, grievous malady” which implies that she was seriously ill around her death. But yeah, let’s ignore Catherine’s own words to follow Agnes Strickland off a cliff and claim that Gloucester forced her into an abbey where she subsequently died of no other cause than being heartbroken (and giving birth, but like, mainly heartbroken). No. I’m going to believe Catherine when she talks about being sick.
Was Gloucester “cruel” to Catherine? Well, he was a dick to her in terms of making it difficult for her remarry but then he had valid political concerns about it and he was a dick to Owen Tudor after Catherine’s death. It’s probable her Tudor marriage was an open secret and nothing was done until after her death, at which point her sons were sent to Katherine de la Pole (aka Suffolk’s sister and unlikely to be a crony of Gloucester’s), who appears to have looked after them well and encouraged Henry VI to bond with them. Catherine named Gloucester a supervisor in her will, which was written after her entry into the abbey, which suggests if she wasn’t exactly afraid of him or didn’t trust him. If she had felt he had mistreated her, why the hell did she give him a position of authority and trust in relation to her own will?
And, nice work stating Henry “cinnamon roll” VI was down to murder someone without pity or good cause. I mean, he didn’t have a great relationship with Gloucester at this point but like, fucking yikes.
