Man “Battle Nexus: New York” was a great episode but I do have one major gripe with it.
Like. Raph being paired up with Ghostbear? Makes sense. Works great. Works amazing, even.
Mikey being paired up with Meatsweats? Yeah that checks out!!
Donnie getting…Hypno…? I mean. I guess Donnie doesn’t like magic so it kindaaa works but Kendra would have been a much better choice to me personally. Maybe Big Mama didn’t wanna include a human or something…
And Leo getting…uh…one of the Sando Brothers???? Of all villains? Nah let’s be real, his main villain is more Big Mama herself (or Leo could be considered his own worst enemy lmao-). i think most of my wwx opinions are unpopular outside of my little patch in this fandom, but i genuinely do believe that post-canon wwx and jc are just better off being out of each other’s lives as much as possible, crossing paths only out of necessity for jin ling.
sometimes when the wounds cut deeply enough, even if none of those wounds were inflicted intentionally or maliciously, it doesn’t matter how much you loved your family member, how much you sacrificed for them, or how much they sacrificed for you. your presence in each other’s lives just aggravates those injuries and prevents them from healing, and maybe the kindest thing you can do for each other is to just leave each other alone.

Ok I know probably none of your guys are as plugged in to #chessdrama as I am but like, putting aside Hans's horseshit for 8 seconds, I am SO EXCITED about the championship match upcoming in 2023.
It's like a Hollywood underdog movie come to life.
The chess championship works like this: there is a "candidates tournament" where only a very small handful of the best of the best are invited to participate, and the winner of that candidates tournament is selected to face off against the incumbent grand champion in the championship match.
There are TWO "but"s about it this year.
1) One of the players invited to the candidates tournament, Sergey Karjakin, publicly announced support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine earlier this year. As a result he was banned from FIDE events for a time - therefore disqualifying him from the candidates' tournament. This will be very relevant later.
2) Reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen declined to defend his title. The likeliest reason being that he has held the title since 2013 and has repeatedly shown himself to be on a league of his own, and already defeated this year's winner of the candidates' tournament (Ian Nepomniachtchi) in LAST year's championship match... anyway for whatever reason he will not be participating and will relinquish the title.
So who is the championship match going to be between? The top TWO finalists of the candidates' tournament. The top finisher was also last year's finalist, Ian Nepomniachtchi.
And who finished second place in the candidates' tournament 2022....?
This is where it gets super juicy. The second place finisher was Ding Liren, who was not originally invited to the candidates' tournament, but was a last-minute replacement for the banned Sergey Karjakin!!!
The guy who wasn't originally even in the candidate's tournament now has a shot at the world champion title.* Y'all it's so exciting. I can't fucking wait until April. Like even if Ian wins the title you can't tell me Ding having a seat at that table isn't some chefs kiss shit.
Anyway here's my favorite picture of Ding Liren which I'm pretty sure was a photo op specifically to announce his invitation to the championship match, and you can't say they didn't flex at the opportunity (but I'm also laughing at the not properly buttoned up dress shirt and ill-fitted suit):

* it should be clarified that Ding Liren is like up there among the highest ranking players EVER, with a batshit impressive resume of his own, hence he was chosen as a replacement (iirc as the highest ranking player not already in the tournament). So it's not like he's some nobody. He is very very much somebody. it's just the circumstances around his candidacy for the championship title this year are so.. DRAMATIC

kinda want izzy to absolutely decimate stede at chess and I can't explain why
#ofmd#stizzy#izzy hands#stede bonnet#like... maybe stede is teaching ed because he wants to have someone to play against and ed is trying his best to learn#and brilliant tactician that he is ed of course can understand the game and the rules very well that's not even remotely the issue#it's just that... well the game is about strategy and planning and anticipating your opponent's moves and ultimately overpowering them#and that's quite like pirating now isn't it except these are tiny wooden pieces on the board and ed is just used to this kind of strategic#planning on a much larger and livelier level with higher stakes and with the added element of human unpredictability and never quite#knowing what rules someone else is playing by. so he does learn and he plays okay but tends to lose focus somewhere in the first ten turns#so one day they're trying to get through a full game and izzy is sitting off to the side watching them play and ed is kind of trying but his#mind is already wandering elsewhere and he makes frankly ridiculously bad move and izzy is just like 'wait' then sighs walks over to them#and puts the piece back and makes a different move instead saying 'do this instead' and ed's face is just like ??? confused betrayal because#why and how did he not know izzy could play chess?? and stede's eyes of course fill with excitement at the thrill of a new opponent and also#because he's been taking it easy on ed while he gets the hang of the game but is actually rather skilled at chess and would love to impress#with his skills even if the only person who would truly get the brilliance is izzy (and stede admits to himself that izzy does know what#he's doing given that the move he corrected for ed is exactly what he would have done)#so anyway stede does his whole big eyes hopeful voice *vague gestures* thing and is like 'oh you play? care for a game?' and izzy stares#him down for what feels like forever but is actually about 8 seconds before saying 'one. one game' so they reset the board and it's only#fair for stede to let izzy go first but for izzy's first turn instead of moving a piece he rotates the whole board so the white pieces are#in front of stede and says 'i don't think so. not letting you have the excuse to say i only won because i went first' and stede#is a little taken aback but you know what? challenge accepted. game on#it's about twenty turns in when stede starts getting nervous that izzy does in fact know his shit and another ten turns later when he#realizes he may be in over his head#and while it isn't a carelessly simple defeat izzy does end up beating stede#and isn't there just something so satisfying about being the cause of stede making the displeased but invigorated expression he's wearing#(do i have any clue how izzy became a chess genius? no but we can speculate. maybe he played regularly with someone on a ship growing up bc#it was a good way to pass the downtime in an entertaining way without having to talk much at all. or maybe he learned as a child and was#required to keep strict hours of practice so because really good but kind of resented it so maybe this is the most he's ever enjoyed playing#or maybe he was watching as stede taught ed to play and just picked up on some of stede's strategies and/or snuck one of his chess books out

#me: the Xianzhou characters are all just coworkers#also me whenever anyone is shown to be fond and have intimate knowledge of some other character: awwww#Like Fu Xuan and Jing Yuan playing starchess and teasing each other or making a reference to things they like#or Jing Yuan talking about young Yukong#Quingque apparently disliking Fu Xuan but obviously that not being the case‚ knowing what she likes and how she thinks#Fu Xuan hiding that she has a sweet tooth but Jing Yuan and Quingque knowing it and teasing her for it#I don't know. There are a lot of instances of these small intimate details in the middle of what looks like a coworker relationship#Good coworkers‚ but coworkers nonetheless#And ironically it moves me so much? Perhaps in a lifetime over one thousand years the intimacy gained with a coworker#through several centuries is something beyond what we could understand in our decades lifespan#But also‚ perhaps‚ I don't know. They're playing chess on so many levels#They're trying to prove each other but they also know the so they don't react as the other expects#which means they DO react as the other expects (with lack of interest!)#Lacie is proving Jack and perhaps trying to get rid of him since he has become an emotional nuisance by making him cross the line#But Jack knows this and so he is careful and doesn't react. We know his past. We know he excels at these games#But he knows Lacie and he knows he depends on playing this well to not be thrown away. He truly can't risk crossing any line. So he doesn't#He shows no interest but smiles as if it could mean something. He doesn't touch her but doesn't react bashfully either. He asks#And that‚ his vague reaction that could be everything and nothing and anything at all‚ his lack of reaction‚ proves Lacie right#Which proves Jack right. She was just testing him. And somehow he's failed#But he's failed by not failing because had he reacted any other way she would most likely had thrown him away#There was no way for either to win anything here. There was no way to pass the test#But this way he can stay. He can stay a little longer#There was no way to pass the test#(There was no way to pass the test and life goes on until it doesn't‚ and then it goes on forever until it runs dry.#But first he'll touch a plush and he'll see a tree and hear her singing one last time‚ the same singing of the day of the test.#And the signing will make him cry as if he perhaps could have passed the test)#(And again he tries to give her everything she wants‚ to bend to her desires and needs‚ to not be thrown away.#And again he asks. And again he doesn't pass the test. And again there was no way of passing. Once there was blood red rain#and a cursed girl. There was no passing the test)#(Her brother still dreams of that life‚ when tests are passed and they leave‚ and she leaves‚ and she lives)#I talk too much#I should probably delete this later#I got carried away a bit but... personally love the thought of like. especially in modern au stuff. something happening between them, perhaps not in a fully lucid state of mind or not-not-emotionally-fraught circumstances or a fwb situation, and kaeya takes it upon himself to go "well if he doesn't make a Thing out of it i won't either"

Ok there's a specific flavor of character that is so easy to make fun of & it's the character that Really really cares about being seen as cool/composed/respectable
Thinking about my oc Nico & how he was SO easy to make fun of bc he cared so much. Meanwhile Fang is the direct opposite in that he really does not give a Single shit. He's Never cared about pride, bc pride does nothing for keeping him alive and fed.
Which means he's nowhere near as fun to make fun of. And thus I have a character who is genuinely pretty cool in how little he cares about being cool
