Note
i get what you meant with the anime post but i feel like boiling jjk season 2 down to just "sadness and horror" is really reductive.
like. yes, absolutely. in this comparison jjk is way grittier and darker, and the choice to have most of the season happen within the span of a single night means there is alot of the season happens in the dark of night (although even then i think given the fight that happens in the train terminal that i dont want to spoil if you didnt see it, and alot of the later fights do alot more with their colours so I dont know if i agree with calling out the pallete)
but at the same time, I think JJK isn't a series based around it being sad or horrific. it is, but at every turn, the series presents it as "these are horrors beyond your scope. you are direly outmatched by the literal manifestation of pain and hatred in this world. Find a way to fight against it"
and while this interpretation is alot more relevant in where we are in the manga, it's something I think the series is trying to communicate the entire time. at its core, JJK is about hope; about finding who you are, and using the very hurt that exists inside you to confront a world that is fundementally hostile to you with planted feet and renewed confidence, and i think that when it's given room to breathe (and probably given time to have some later material adapted), jjk is a genuinely refreshing story. its a story that is dark and sad and painful, but its a story about choosing to keep moving forward in spite of that pain and uses its sorld and systems to bolster that theme
I get that yeah, alot of this is more vibes than it is themes, and jjk does absolutely can feel like dark shonen slop at times, but I really do think that it deserves a little more reverence as a series wanting to use its darker tone to explore hope in hopelessness.
hope you can find more of the stuff you like though!! i dont mean this as some sort of inditement I just have hills i want to die on
I know it's MORE than grimdark shonen, however to me that grimdark shonen part was so overpowering that I wasn't able to find much enjoyment in the work as a whole. I compare it to Dorohedoro- just as gory, but with a much lighter heart to it. I also stand by the fact that Nobara was done dirty and her character is paper-thin compared to the other two of the main trio. The end of the season was vague on whether or not she's alive but either way she deserved so much better. That's my petty hill to die on she (is/was) my favorite.
Though it's got flaws, it's undeniably very well made and also just not the kind of story I enjoy. Same with Game of Thrones- I found it tiresome how quickly characters were introduced and killed and just started checking out emotionally altogether. It's like how some people like really dark chocolate or really spicy food. Not for me.
(Also I watch anime on an aging laptop so I literally couldn't see a chunk of stuff going on, like what I saw of the Todo vs Mahito battle was mostly vibes. The choso fight in the bathroom was SICK as hell though)

sota's brave confession of love being that episode:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[worth noting here that in the dub the way richard says "WHAT-ever..." priceless.]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[also worth noting that in the dub he says "you already said that" instead of "hah! what're you saying?!" which feels more like an inuyasha response to me. then again we'll never know since this is technically anime-only, and while i tend not to like a lot of inuyasha filler, if it's in the modern day i will eat it up. every. time.]
Tumblr media
inuyasha being stunned by the sheer amount of goods in a grocery store...gold. earlier in this episode he also seemed enamored by baked goods, and i wonder if he's ever really had anything resembling it? bread made its way to japan mid-16th century via portuguese traders, so it's likely he's never had anything like it and the smell must've been new to him - it would've been interesting if we'd seen him trying all these new foods!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i can never decide whether or not sunrise likes inukag bc they'll cut out canon scenes of them but then insert scenes like this in their filler eps...what game are ya'll playing? but flustered inuyasha is adorable so i can't complain this time.
Tumblr media
eavesdropping...
Tumblr media
i'm sorry WHERE is he getting these questions from i actually burst out laughing
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
called out by an eight year old...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i don't care whether or not this is ooc because i laughed way too hard like he really got dragged from potential sleep to deal with this LMAO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is the cutest thing i've ever seen and it only gets better:
Tumblr media
shortly after: sota getting kicked out of his own house after chickening out for the tenth time this episode
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
smol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
flustered inukag my beloved...
anyway this episode is a dumb fun and i love it to an insane degree. the only part i would say is out of character (at least, more out of character than sunrise already does inuyasha) is when he literally makes this face at the thought of confessing to kagome:
Tumblr media
coming from the guy who was pretty open about his feelings in the manga and quite literally told kagome - thinking she was hearing him - that he likes seeing her smile and feels relieved when he's by her side, i don't see him getting this flustered - but the face he makes is priceless.

Audio Drama Sunday — May 26, 2024
It's been tragically long since I had the time to make one of these posts amidst the rise in jam chaos & other things over the last few weeks, but the event officially concluded yesterday with the release of 14 new pilots!!
In all honesty this event consumed most of my life so far this year, but I am incredibly excited to be on the other side of it - having released the first episode of my debut audio drama, @spacespeckspod as well ! - with so many wonderfully talented people. These shows are beyond incredible, so I just want to dedicate today to talking about them! (& I truthfully haven't listened to anything except jam shows as of late, lol)
@gavinswindowpod - "In-universe TTRPG" is always such a fun angle, and this show did a stellar job balancing the different directions that can take. Listening to the character's conversations feels very much like overhearing a group playing, all of the actors did an incredible job with that! & I'm looking forward to more in the future :)
@theichorousrotpod - Firstly, G knocked it out of the park with the music in this show, it's incredible. Secondly, "pathetic guy trapped by the horrors" is beloved and very well done, Sam is an incredibly talented writer and the cast did a stellar job bringing these characters to life. (I would let Dr. Yates perform top surgery on me etc etc.)
@thefinderskeeperpod - Beyond with being two of the nicest people ever, Lemon and Maddie's character dynamics in this was SUCH a joy to witness. "Grizzled old man & clueless newcomer walk into a bank, except there is something incredibly wrong with the bank teller" is spectacular, the sound design was, of course, spectacular, and I'm very excited to hear more.
@valdiviansfinest - Clear bias in saying this, but space shows are SO fun, and the Valdivian's Finest team did an amazing job showcasing all of the best parts of the genre. I don't have enough good things to say about this show, I love space Amazon and don't think the courier service has ever done anything wrong ever.
@working-tidal-pod - Taking points off for Louis spawning the "it's a comedy" joke that became a constant reference when we were listening to shows (/lh) BUT the writing is so funny, the sibling dynamic feels incredibly realistic and all of the actors are amazing and very talented. Feesh show has the potential to become a go-to comfort podcast, looking forward to hearing more!
@asbestos4president - This show is incredibly fun, "alien Twitch streamer" isn't a podcast I ever thought I would encounter, but the team did an absolutely fantastic job with their pilot. The writing is really funny in the classic aliens-misunderstanding-human-concepts way, with more modernized in-jokes that makes the characters feel very realistic!!
@beyondrepairpod - Extra props to this group as they were the event match team, with much less time to organize before scriptwriting, but managed to put together a stellar pilot. Hope was so well-done, the ship AI is VERY normal and you can absolutely trust them, shoutout to Pancake for their absolutely spectacular acting there!
@worldfusepodcast - These characters are incredibly charming and this world is so fun. Everything about this is just really well done; all of the actors were amazing, the writing is clever & easy to follow (& it's, of course, very fun that Ila is playing a detective :)!!) Looking forward to hearing more of this show!
@hello-are-you-there - Again, slight bias as I love a good apocalypse plot, but HAYT is a really fun radio show style podcast by a really lovely team. Aiden's moments of snark are great, Milo did a wonderful job bringing him to life amidst the bleakness of an end-of-the-world plot, & the inclusion of mythology is really well done!
@gobbpodblog - Magical zoo! Magical zoo!!! I love strange and unusual creatures and this team did an amazing job bringing them to life in this episode :D The animal ambiance at the start was really charming, and Prinxe & Caw were fantastic as Jake and Dr. Vermillian. Really excited to hear more!
Schrödinger's Pledge/@englewoodafterdark - As a college student I understand the implicit horrors of Greek life all too well (/lh.) The exploration of hazing practices and the normalization of them within those communities honestly is scary on its own, and the sound design really brings that to life in this pilot. Beyond excited to hear more Englewood After Dark later this year!
The Block - Fi was the only participant to make a solo show, and ended up with a spectacular example of what a one-person show can look like! I'm a little sad this podcast isn't continuing as they've introduced such an interesting concept and world here, but they did an outstanding job with the pilot.
Eart(h) FM - We listened to this one in the server the other night, & this show was definitely a lighthearted uptick from some of the other things we listened to, lol! It feels a bit silly to say a show about the end of the world is fun, but there is just so much hope and life this team managed to fit all in one episode, and the music is wonderful.
@spacespeckspod - I feel a bit awkward talking about my show, but I do want to say thank you to my lovely teammates who helped bring it to life! I appreciate all of you endlessly, and I'm really excited for the future of our little space show <3
If you want to check out these shows, they're all available on the Jam feed, & @aclickbaittitle has also started an (in-progress) Podchaser list of those with individual feeds!
Finally, an extra shoutout to the crowdfunder for Forged Bonds, @forgedbondspod which is still running & which you can check out here! Pine is such a wonderful member of the AD community, & (especially as a fellow classics enjoyer) I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with this show. If you have the means, you should absolutely go support them & their amazing podcast!!

Since the announcement that two or three new versions of Ghosts are in the works, I've been thinking about what sort of ghosts we might get to see / I'd like to see in a German adaptation and put together a list of my ideas. You will see some similarities with our beloved original ghosts as well as completely new characters, and I did my best to find a balance between male and female characters and include a variety of historical eras.
This is obviously just a very basic list with some notes but I do have thoughts about these characters (how they died, what powers they might have, their inner conflict etc.) so if you'd like to know more, please ask (also German producers, I hereby officially volunteer as tribute writer)!
German Ghosts
Female Neanderthal (40,000 BC)
Neanderthals were named after the German Neander valley so I think it's only fair to include a Neanderthal in the show. Since no one needs a Robin 2.0, I'd make the character female and give her a dog because ghost animals are fun and we need more of them.
Roman & German (9 AD)
Two guys - let's call them Marcus and Alber - who fought on opposite sides died in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, became ghosts and eventually best friends. They'd rather die again than admit that to anyone, though.
Bog Girl (600 AD)
A little girl who haunts the marshlands around the house but not the property itself. Most of the ghosts avoid her until the Naturalist gets curious and starts to befriend her.
Plague Ghosts (Mid-1600s)
A group of victims of the 30 Years' War whose deaths were caused by famine and disease and not the war directly (though they insist they died 'in the war').
Naturalist (Late 1700s)
A scientist like Alexander von Humboldt and Charles Darwin who embraces becoming a ghost from the get go and does various experiments (on himself and the others) to figure out how ghost rules work and what is and isn't possible.
Composer (Early 1800s)
A young composer who has a (perceived) rivalry with Beethoven because he's lost part of his hearing. Think German equivalent of Thomas Thorne.
Female Soldier (Early 1800s)
Based on stories like that of Friederike Krüger, this woman posed as a man and joined the army during the Napoleonic Wars.
Woman in White (Late 1800s)
The lady of the house at the time. After she died in childbirth, she was forced to watch her husband's mistress raise her daughter. She died wearing her white nightgown (something she is quite embarrassed about) and can be seen in pictures.
WW1 Surgeon (1930s)
Another former owner of the house, this man was a surgeon in WW1 and still carries the trauma of that time with him (think Siegfried from All Creatures Great and Small).
Luftwaffe Pilot (1940s)
Remember the two German pilots from BBC Ghosts? This guy was their friend and has always wondered what happened to them. He crash-landed on the grounds during a training exercise.
Estate Agent (early 2020s)
A woman who took over the house after the last owner passed away. While assessing the property, she had a heart attack and died there, leading to rumours about the house being cursed and haunted increasing.
The House
While the house will probably be a manor house like in the original series, I think it would be fun if this version of the show shook things up a little and had the German Coopers inherit an old mill, or perhaps even an actual (small) castle.

‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Stars on Bringing Animated Characters to Live Action: “We’re Weren’t Doing a Caricature”
After more than half a decade of development, Netflixunveiled its highly anticipated live- action Avatar: The Last Airbender on Friday.
The show, adapted from Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko’s animated series that premiered in 2005, follows the beloved story of Aang, an Avatar who can bend all four elements — water, earth, fire and air — and is responsible for maintaining harmony in his universe’s four nations. Along the way, Aang befriends waterbender Katara and her brother Sokka as they work together to end the fire nation’s war against the other nations. Frequently, the group faces off against Zuko, a fire nation prince locked in an ongoing pursuit of Aang’s demise.
Though Netflix’s live-action approach to the story heads for darker themes than Nickelodeon’s animated original, the cast of kids at the show’s center maintains the story’s sense of childlike wonder that is so beloved by fans.
The actors — Gordon Cormier (Aang), Kiawentiio (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka) and Dallas Liu (Zuko) — began their journeys toward the show around four years ago, navigating a blind casting process that tried to keep the subject of their audition a secret and involved a lengthy, international search for the right artists to bring DiMartino and Konietzko’s characters to life with the Albert Kim adaptation. Each an avid fans of the original (Cormier says he’s watched the show 26 times), the group spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about how their love for the franchise gave way to their need to get the live-action story right — and where they’re hoping the show will go next.
Let’s go back to the beginning. What do you remember about the casting process?
DALLAS LIU They sent all of us these dummy sides and fake character names. I know some of these guys didnt know [it was for Avatar], but for me it felt obvious from the character’s description, and my fake name was “Juno.” I think, knowing the series, already being such a huge fan and Zuko being my favorite character … I definitely used that to my advantage throughout the audition process.
GORDON CORMIER I actually turned down the audition, because I had no clue what it was. I got the audition, and it was for a 12-year-old. I was a small 11-year-old at that point. I had told my agent, “I don’t want any more auditions like this because I’m too small to play 12.” So I turned it down. And then they sent it back and they said, “No, we really want to see this.”
Were you all fans of the animated series?
KIAWENTIIO Me, Dallas and Ian grew up [watching] the show, but Gordon was actually born after it aired.
CORMIER After I booked the role, I looked up the animated series. I watched it 26 times, because I became a giant fan. I didn’t even really watch it to study my character — the first time was for that. Then I watched it again for the fun of it, and again, again, again, again. I feel like I really got to know Aang, to see what he’s going through and hopefully bring that into the live action, with a little bit deeper and darker tones.
LIU I think because of the significance of Dante Basco’s voice acting [Basco is beloved as the original voice of Zuko], I felt a little extra pressure knowing that there were such huge shoes to fill. But the way I navigated that was: We aren’t trying to make a remake scene for scene, line for line. We’re trying to get a new set of people involved. Hopefully, they love the show just as much as we do, and we give the old fans something new.
Were there any specific parts of your character you drew from the animated series, or anything you added that felt new?
IAN OUSLEY It’s such an amazing opportunity for the character of Sokka to go from an animated series to live action. When I watch the original series, I feel like Sokka is always the voice of the audience, so that’s something that I tried to carry over into our show. How can I be the voice of the audience and set the tone for everybody at home?
LIU We wanted to make sure we weren’t doing a caricature of these animated characters. For Zuko, in season one of the animated series, definitely for the first half of it, he’s quite melodramatic and extremely emotional to the point where his eyes are jumping out of his face. I think his relationship with Uncle Iroh in the live-action series was really cool for me. He’s not so much a brat to his own uncle, who looked out for him and cared for him.
OUSLEY In the animated show, Sokka is [also] doing so many things that are animated. It was a big challenge to bring it into reality and not lose any parts of him. But in addition to that, what comes naturally with live action is the humanness. A lot of the things happening in the show are very real and very intense, and he gets to have real human reactions while also getting to find out what that comedy looks like.
Bringing this world into live action also meant some impressive martial arts from all four of you! What was your preparation for that?
KIAWENTIIO It was helpful, we did a six-week boot camp before filming. That’s where I got familiar with the fight scenes I had to train for.
CORMIER I was super energetic. Running, around, doing all these exercises … that was heaven for 12-year-old me.
LIU For Gordon, he’s supposed to be a master at such a young age. He needed to be extremely well-versed in the style of air from the beginning.
OUSLEY It was really awesome watching the commitment to Gordon’s character, because he would go home and practice for hours and hours on his own. He was having so much fun. They had to keep him on the kids’ schedule still, but even as an 11- and 12-year-old, he was still putting in hours of work, because they were giving him videos to practice. It was awesome.
KIAWENTIIO I feel like with my character, I got really lucky with the fact that I grew alongside her throughout the series. She doesn’t start out as a master, but she ends up that way.
LIU And Ian is actually a world champion martial artist in weapons, but his character isn’t an expert. So he had to unlearn those punches.
OUSLEY I love weapons in general, and Sokka has a really special attachment to his weapons, and his war club. So it was really cool to bring that over. But yeah, I had to unlearn a lot of that technique.
It’s been about a year and a half since you finished filming season one. What’s it been like reuniting for this press tour?
KIAWENTIIO It’s so interesting, because I feel like we got so much closer after filming. We definitely got to know each other while filming. But it’s on a different level now, getting to spend that time apart and realize how much we actually care for each other.
OUSLEY The first time I saw Gordon [after filming], his voice had changed. I freaked out. I was like, “What is happening?” And then I kept telling him, “Talk again!” It’s been awesome to get to know each other again. We’ve grown up, and we’re growing together.
LIU We’ve grown, not just as actors and actresses, but each of us grew up as human beings, in front of the hundreds of people on set. Each of them had a huge influence on the people we are right now.
So, what are your hopes and dreams for a live-action season two?
KIAWENTIIO With the animated series, it just gets better every season. I think adding a new addition to our group, getting to see Toph, is super exciting. It would also be really cool if I got to portray the Painted Lady.
LIU Season two is epic for Zuko. I want to do the one where I’m yelling at the lighting.
IAN I’m waiting for season three, though, because I want my sword. I am the world champion in weapons, specifically, so his sword would be a dream come true.
CORMIER Also season three, I really want to do that episode right before I go fight the fire lord and Aang won’t sleep. I start to see all these visions, and Momo and Appa start talking. It’d be so awesome.

PROPAGANDA
MIKAN TSUMIKI (DANGANRONPA 2: GOODBYE DESPAIR) (CW: Mind Control, Bullying)
1.) She is literally the saddest side character I know out of the series. She canonically went through severe abuse and bullying, oversexualizes herself as a defense mechanism, and has really bad anxiety that interferes with her interactions.
Does she get better? No.
Even though the whole theme of Danganronpa is overcoming despair, she never gets the support she needs despite having a lot of supposedly nice classmates. She CONTINUES to get verbally abused by another classmate nobody really bothers to stop, and one of her best friend even ENABLES some of her bad coping mechanisms. She's also the main source of fanservice for the second game.
Then she gets fucking brainwashed into one of the main villain's henchwoman. Yeah, the writers did NOT let her catch a break.
2.) The first two chapters are obsessed with having her do that stupid 'oh nooo all my clothes came off :"( u can see my panties :"(' shit and her free time events especially drift into the 'I'm accidentally saying something that's sexy but I don't know the connotations' brand of jokes. Idk what the spoiler policy is so I won't say much about her actual good points, but when she gets a chance to shine, she's really really interesting! For sure one of my favorite characters in the game! She's got nuance and character and relationships and motivations and interests and all that good stuff! She's even gay! It's just that its almost completely eclipsed by mediocre at best horny jokes for the first 2/3rds of her screentime in game and it drives me actually insane.
3.) You could put nearly all of the dr girls in this bracket, actually. But I picked Mikan because she's such a clear example. They just put her in there to sexualize her and her trauma. There were many ideas that could have been executed well with Mikan (I can relate to the aspect of her sexualizing herself, but the fact that they use it for fanservice is. Wow! And not in a good way) but they use her for fanservice instead. And she had the WORST execution or at least it was somewhere in the top 3. They unceremoniously cut off her development with the "despair disease" (hate that motive btw) and basically made her whole personality in what was supposed to be sorta love her 3rd act villain breakdown into "oooh my beloved ahaha I can't wait to be reunited with my beloved." I don't know shit about the anime but she seems to have been treated just as terribly there if not made worse! If it weren't for the fact that I refuse to acknowledge the animes existence it might have made me dislike her during the time I still actively liked the franchise. All the outfits they give her also feel like they were made just for fanservice shots (most of the outfits themselves aren't really bad at least not the ones I've seen it's that they were made with the intent to sexualize her and not to look good and fit her character) which is super frustrating. Oh and she was treated terribly in the game by Hiyoko but when she killed hiyoko it was just whoops she saw me kill ibuki gotta end her instead of giving her an interesting motive for even one of her kills. Honestly what makes me says she's screwed over by misogyny specifically is the fact that shit like this probably would not have happened if she were a guy. She wouldn't be written perfectly but her writing would be so much better. Like she was reduced to fanservice so so so many times and treated awfully.
OCHETTE (OCTOPATH TRAVELER 2) (CW: Racism, Ableism)
1.) SO. actually she's combod by the heavy anti-pasifika racism in ot2 but one of the strongest elements of that is that ochette herself is infantilized to the point of a 20 year old woman, who is a fully trained adult warrior and ingame stated to be like a week away from replacing her island's ultrabeast white lion guardian, being characterized by cool normal things like "having the white catholic inquisitor character promise to teach her backward people human language(the fantasy pasifika tribe she's from are kemonomimi because of course they are)", "haha ochette no understand human custom and have funny naive misunderstanding", "ochette draws the catholic inquisitor character a cutesy kiddie drawing", and being completely removed from any discussions around sex because octopath has this sexism problem where the only two types of women are innocent babies and femme fatales which is so cool AND normal. so ochette gets actually written to be essentially a "mental child" or sometimes an actual animal and is never, ever, ever allowed to have any dynamic with a human that is not paternal in nature because she is Baby. so she's also fighting the ableism. and despite all odds being stacked against her she manages to fuck super hard in a way that makes it so obvious that if ot2 was just less sexist and less racist and less ableist and someone suplexed the non-pasifika dev team and brought in at least a sensitivity reader, she could have fucked SO much harder. honestly imo the fact that the racism against her is superficially gender neutral is not proof that it's not sexism but proof that it IS, as a major part of racist sexism is treating the womanhood of woc as either unimportant or inferior compared to white womanhood, where pasifika woc specifically are often treated as eternal innocent girls who just can never understand an adult woman's relationship with gender. ochette not being allowed to be a woman and trapped at "child too young to even have a gender" is sickeningly sexist. she should have been allowed to have zest for life and be literally the "my daughter might have autism but god damn she can work a grill" lady and be unsure about taking on a hugely important position without it being used as shorthand for her being a toddler in the body of a notably very skinny girl considering she is canonically jacked enough to carry an iguana the size of a bus but WHATEVER. she should also have been allowed to hunt the white catholic inquisitor whose story climaxes with him killing an indigenous woman who secretly infiltrated the church in order to get revenge for them massacring her entire tribe that confirms ochette's people are kemonomimi because an ancient wizard cursed the brutish natives for their violence. actually fuck it i would put kaldena in too but thinking about her actually makes me depressed im so fucking sorry girl. they should BOTH have gotten a ten minute cutscene of beating hm to death with hammers

what is yu yu hakusho
best beloved 90s shounen of my heart. broadly speaking it's a story about second chances & found family & proving yourself to yourself after the world has shunted you into the "bad guys" category. the catalyst of the story is that the protagonist (a teenage delinquent) dies by accident in the first five minutes and when the spirit realm offers to bring him back to life this 14 year old kid is like "eh what's the point I was a punk and nobody's going to miss me." spoiler alert: he is wrong and he finds reasons to keep living. like all good shounen it is also intensely homoerotic.
the anime is divided into four story arcs. the first two (Spirit Detective and Dark Tournament arcs) are your much more standard "action" beats with our heroes having to battle their way through to defeat the final big boss etc. lots of fun but very par for the course. the third arc (Chapter Black) begins the same way on the surface but then twists and evolves into something genuinely inspired and subversive for an early 90s shounen, that really confronts the moral lines we draw between good & evil. the fourth arc (Three Kings) continues down that path but unfortunately the author was dealing with health issues and was in conflict with his publisher over opposing visions for the story, so he ended up cutting it short (I personally have no beef with the final arc but many fans found it unsatisfying). the manga also has several one-off side plots that don't appear in the anime and leans more heavily into the "detective" genre than the action genre
it's aimed at a teenage/young adult audience so YMMV but I would recommend it to anyone who's a fan of the medium. really fun stuff, some really deep stuff, and lovable characters who I carry with me 20 years later ❤️

For the ask game: King Knight for 002? He's a pretty divisive character so I'd like to hear your thoughts on him.
002 | Give me a character & I will tell you
How I feel about this character: King Knight is very easy to shit on whenever I make comics with this guy, I'll say straight up. And it's not because I hate him, he's just so thoroughly unable to see the forest from the trees that his shtick, that of a witless idiot who nonetheless powers through out of sheer determination and ignorance, is arguably his funniest quality and his most fascinating. Being a King means being a leader, to be charismatic, beloved, and benevolent by working for the people. On paper, King probably models this in his head, but in practice, he's every argument for the follies of monarchy. He's bad at what he does, but he's so damn good at everything else he puts his mind to it. Little things we see in the game: *He's handy, having built a makeshift throne on his bed frame. *He's proficient with animals, with the propeller rats taking to him and vice versa. *He IS charismatic and Doesn't Afraid of Anything. Along with his physical strength and pride, he's an unstoppable force. *This is more gameplay segregation than anything (and you can also cheat), but King is, also, apparently, a really damn good Joustus player. ALL of these are talented and worthy of note and if King can just see what he IS good at versus what he isn't, he'd go a lot further in life that would simultaneously benefit him and those around him. The comedy and tragedy is in knowing he doesn't and refuses. King of Cards is the most lighthearted SK game in the series, but only so it hits you with that much more punch in terms of disappointment and expected frustration that you, the player, might feel by the end. Like you know what is to come, but I think, judging by people's reaction (both in-game and by players), they still felt betrayed by his actions. Hey, that's not a bad reaction for a prequel to have. (On a slightly related note though, I am very much ready to move on from SK prequels/midquels though.)
All the people I ship romantically with this character: I flirted with the idea of King/Bard, but ultimately, I think King isn't in a position where romance is a factor in his life (yet.) I think he needs to work on himself first. If he can't handle his own mommy dating another man because he's too self-absorbed and (though he may not admit it) reliant on her, then he has no chance in hell dating anyone successfully. Basically, King Knight? You're, like, 33 years old. Stop acting a 12-year-old.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: This question kind of confuses me? As in, who is this guy's bestest buddy in the whole world? The person King loves the most, but purely in either a familial or friendly platonic sense? In which case? Hmm. Honestly? I really do like the relationship he has with his mom. It is genuinely sweet this goober has such a loving parental figure in his life (one he takes for granted), and I'd like to see a potential Shovel Knight 2 revisit that. Course, I also think King Mom needs a bit more than just "mom." Furniture and objects in King Knight's house (and the, granted, April Fool's joke, tabletop RPG sheet for SK) implied she was once an adventurer, notably the aircraft. I'd like to hope we get to see more of that side of her. (Note: Though I think ycg also stated that aircraft belonged to King's father, which may or may not be a future plot they're planting for themselves, but it'd be super lame if this went to yet another male role. I like King Mom and I love that she has her own autonomy to date whoever she wants regardless of her son's whining, but ultimately... she's A Mom, and it'd be a shame if the materials around her household could not validate her own spirited side.)
My unpopular opinion about this character: Not necessarily the character, but his campaign. King of Cards is a worthy send-off to Treasure Trove, serving as a riveting finale until the inevitable Shovel Knight 2 potentially refreshes the franchise and takes it to newer courses. It is also an overwhelming, bloated game. It felt like they added as much content as they could in order to send it off with a flair, with not as much restraint as the previous entries. And ycg's resistance to any storyline past Shovel of Hope meant by the time KoC came out, the plot beat that occurred in the latter felt constrained by its prequel nature: coincidentally frustrating at its best and unnecessary explanation of certain scenarios and situations at its worst.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Well, actually, what I want him to do is get over himself and realize he's not fit to be King, but he can choose to be someone else and do a better job, but that's likely future sequel material. But also, even when he is at his best, I love the idea that he is still just a wee bit delusional and/or prideful. Don't want to get rid of too much of his general character trait. In which case, he's not a self-serving glory hog. He's a glory hog who has well intention.
my OTP: See second question answered above.
my cross over ship: N/A
a headcanon fact: I like the idea of King Knight actually having a college degree in, like engineering, or something S M A R T. But he either uses it for his one-tracked mind to be King or not at all, so it shocks everyone (or Tinker, at least) when he can repair or build machinery. Doesn't have to be engineering, just something unexpected that you absolutely wouldn't think this fucker would know, but he does, and it ends up being useful.

The One Piece Diaries
Episode Count: 450
Holy shit, guys... I'm back. I took another several months-long hiatus from One Piece... Mostly unintentionally... (I've been bouncing between a lot of other fandoms these past few months but have been brought back by the live action.) Where to start...
We've been in Impel Down for most of the last 40 or so episodes since my last update post. And not to go off on a tangent, but you know... I've noticed One Piece lumped in as one of the shows that's swamped with filler. And that really hasn't been my experience so far.
What I have noticed is that, around this point, the pacing gets pretty atrocious. There's a lot that happens in the journey to try and break Ace out of Impel Down... But is there 40 episodes worth of stuff? I have to argue no. It gets to the point where the first third of the episode is all recap, and barely anything is actually getting accomplished each episode. So that is a little off-putting.
But! There is a lot of good to be found in this arc too!
Okay, admittedly... Buggy was never my favorite... (outside of some brilliantly written fanfiction by stereden on AO3) And I would have been content to never see Mr. 3 again... But it is really cool to meet back up with so many of the old villains who only met their downfall and ended up here because of Luffy and to have them be on our side now. Really puts into perspective the morality of it all. Luffy's always fighting for the right things... but in the eyes of the government and greater world, he's a villain as well.
I've finally met Jimbei... (Jinbe? Jinbei? I've seen all 3, but Crunchyroll's subtitles use the 'm' spelling, so that's what I'm going with.) I haven't seen a lot of him yet, but I like him so far. He's tough, clearly, but also almost goofily polite, in a way that really complements Luffy's general blunt insensitiveness. I think it's still a while before he joins up as the last member of the crew, but I'm looking forward to getting to know him better.
This arc makes it really clear how Bon Clay came to be as beloved in the fandom as he is. And there's a lot that could be said about Ivankov... A lot that would very quickly derail this update and which I'm not totally, personally qualified to weigh in on...
Listen, One Piece's portrayal of queerness isn't perfect. But it's a hell of a lot better than the way so many other shows handle it, especially given the time this aired. (The Impel Down arc was originally adapted throughout late 2009-early 2010. Frankly, the 90s often included more and better handled LGBT+ characters than the 2000s era anime did, up until pretty recently.) Just the fact alone that this group is so out and proud about it and undeniably allied with and wholeheartedly accepted by the main protagonist is a fucking statement all on its own. It's beautiful. I can't underplay that by nitpicking the places the representation fell short by today's standards in a storyline that's 15 years old now. (I know there's a lot of shit in the future that goes down with Sanji in particular... So I may have less generous things to say later, but that's where we stand right now.)
And as for the arc's villains... Magellan's okay. This last episode particularly, the venom demon attack was pretty badass. (That image of the mushrooming skulls as it formed it was so good.)
And Hannyabal... Okay, there were some early moments that made me laugh. The gag about how he's clearly lusting for the warden's job and not great about hiding it could be pretty funny. But by the time he's defeated... and the anime starts in on a dramatic backstory for this asshole, trying to make him sympathetic... All I could say was, 'You've gotta be fucking kidding me...' I know it's kind of One Piece's thing to try and redeem everyone, but I was so bogged down by the pacing at that point... I did not have the patience for it. Good riddance to that dude in particular.
Episode 450 ends with our ragtag group officially making it out... And man, it's cool to see some of these older characters again, but I already miss our crew so much... Especially knowing what's coming...
I'm sure I've already mentioned that I know the bigger Marineford spoilers... But I'm still not sure I'm ready to see it firsthand.
Wish me luck.

pls elaborate on arthur and ludwig being misinterpreted!!! bcos we might agree on some things 😼 love ur writing n ur energy soo much :*
hello anon my beloved! sorry i was grocery shopping when i saw this 😭 thank you so much for saying you love my writing and energy that's very sweet 🥺 i'm trying to crank out this mf easter chapter and update my main WIPs!!
hmmm this is a brilliant question and i appreciate this opportunity so much bc HOOOO boy do i have Things to say about Arthur Kirkland. but it's also difficult bc i might be controversial here. like i fully expect to be taken to the stakes. also, i'm not much of a ludwig expert but i will make an attempt. disclaimer, these are my personal opinions and everyone is entitled to their own. also i don't mean to sound angry here, just passionate!!
so i was here MANY years ago. Artie here is kinda my main man, and i have strong opinions on him. and let me start by acknowledging that in canon, everyone is depicted pretty twinky or a twunk at best. i mean, it's an anime. that being said, there are many different fanon interpretations, but in my opinion there doesn't seem to be enough variation on Arthur/England's character. Blanket Statement Warning; Arthur woobifiers lack nuance. simply put, i find that he's often needlessly feminized, and i could not agree with this less.
i'm not glorifying colonization, but presenting a simple fact; he represents one of the most powerful nations/empires on earth. i believe he is and should be allowed to be masculine. yes, he can be a catty bitch. and no, in general, at least in canon, he is not the most macho guy on earth. (do i have overtly macho characterizations? yes, for example, when he's a punk. i write him several different ways!) but my point stands that this is a grown ass man. we need to allow him to look like one; have broad shoulders and a bit of hair on his chest. i cannot believe this is controversial to say.
i can't really see him as feminine whatsoever, and i don't want to yuck anyone's yum, but i don't understand why this portrayal is so popular. i can't see him as a "mother", or presenting femininely, or being receptive in the bedroom. to me, he's Grandpa. he's a grumpy old man. and a rat bastard. he's a ruthless pirate captain. he can also be Just Some Guy, a posh gentleman, a stern and doting father, or a feral forest imp. whether or not he's particularly "nice" (i have written him as a nice guy as well!) he's a control freak with a hot temper, but a stiff upper lip. he's very guarded, invulnerable, and possessive. his personality is an inherently dominant one. even at his most raw, even with that prickly shell stripped away and showing his most genuine emotions, he's a strong and proud man.
i also would go so far as to say macho-ness and femininity are misunderstood concepts themselves on this Hell Site. but i digress.
now, as is evident, Ludwig is a deeply repressed man. i haven't written much of him nor are my opinions very strong, but he's such a classic character, and GerIta has a special place in my heart. correct me if i'm wrong, and i do notice that the fanon interpretation is indeed changing, but overall i recall him being interpreted as a very one dimensional, mean, cold, loud, and bossy killjoy. is this warranted, because he's like this on the outside? perhaps.
Ludwig strikes me as the sort of lad who has been forced into a certain role of rigid stoicism to the point where he loses himself in the process. he is an order follower, an authority pleaser, in the worst of ways. in the context of WW2 era Germany, he strives to be a image of perfection, of rugged, propagandized masculinity. he's certainly a man, and a big one at that. i'm not denying that, he's definitely a dominant figure! but he hides his vulnerability because he believes he's not allowed to feel emotions or enjoy anything outside of the prescribed perception.
does Luddy himself have a sweet side? totally. he yearns to let his guard down. he longs to give love. was Germany (the third reich, you all know what i mean) ruthless, disgusting and evil at the time? absolutely, and we should not make light of that. does he have anger issues? maybe not as much as it might seem. i believe at his core, he wants to be gentle. he needs to learn how.
thank you again for the ask, and if you read this long. i do hope this clarifies things. my inbox is open for any further questions. haters to the left please 💖💅

Me every time you mention your characters:
Tumblr media
This applies to worldbuilding too
Im late in answering this but THANK YOU! I was always kind of scared of sharing my original oc's since I keep thinking no one would be interested in them.
But I'd like to take some time to actually explain one set of them instead of just throwing vague hints at them. I did draw some of them on this blog but if people like them enough I'll start actually drawing them.
So uh, here take this!:
This world has a bit of a animals (not furries) x criminal underground x martial arts idea. In this world, hybrid animals of all types roam the world. But our characters live in a city called "Zoia", a lawless city full of hybrids that live tough lifes of crime and chaos. In this city, 4 bosses called the "Wilders" rule parts of the city through thier meticulous scheming and martial art prowess.
Monkey:
An aspiring young con-man of 30 years old. He's charismatic, but also kind of a loser that doesn't know when to seperate his outrageous goals from reality, making it his job of doing petty thefts and reselling what he "borrowed" at the kiosks. His arrogance often leads him to get his ass kicked, and he gets in trouble with smaller gangs because of his thefts on their turfs. Still, he likes to think he has a shot at making it big in this city. His current goal? Becoming the next big Wilder.
Snake:
Local 27 year old organ trafficker hiding as a dentist. She works for a small gang because her shitty brother got both of them in debt. She's a nervous and shy girl who tries to cover up her snake-like appearance to look passive and insignificant just so that nobody can disturb her. But underneath all that lies a tempermental snake, and she's one day away from showing her fangs. Cunning and harsh, Snake will do anything to get a one up in this harsh world, even if it means betrayal. She's catching the attention of Tiger, who was coincidentally looking for a doctor. Currently has beef with Mongoose because he keeps fucking around with her orders.
Bunny:
25 year old guy that became a Wilder by pure fucking rage. Because of his hybrid type, he's been seen as weak and small his whole life. After some people tried to mug him, he snapoed and sent them to the hospital. What followed was the rumour of a bunny hybrid that's been going on a rampage and fighting big shots. So, bunny climbed to the top of the criminal food chain by fighting. Other then that he's a quiet and introverted guy that kind of has a weird way of thinking. But since he's so sure of himself, many started following him. He earned the title of the new Wilder and he's making bank by the night clubs he opened up that's actually a back drop for meetings between the dangerous groups of the city.
Lion:
The current leader of the west side and the most powerful fighter next to Bull. A 34 year old Wilder that was recently given the title after his mom stepped down. Stoic and prideful on the outside, but has a strong sense of tradition and justice. He has a close group of friends that are loyal to a fault, and his pride in his work often attracts the younger generation to join. Don't be mistaken though, his work is built on generations of fear and blood, and he's not willing to give it all up. Currently wants to help Mongoose find his sister, as she was a close friend of his mother and a role model.
Shark:
Nonbinary 31 year old that's both smart and eccentric. Neither a Wilder nor weaker then one, they currently run a small organ trafficking business and loan company, but their main job is arms dealing. They travel across the world making deals with all kinds of people, but stop by Zoiac to say hello to her dearly beloved "workers". Charismatic and a bit of a flirt, they'll make you dance in the palm of their hand without you ever knowing it. Currently, they like to bother Snake by pushing her buttons. They really seem to enjoy testing her, but it looks like they have other plans for her?
Mongoose:
A 19 year old outsider looking for his missing sister. He's naive about the ways of the city and often gets himself in trouble by sticking his nose into businesses he shouldn't. But he's pretty smart and knows how to persuade people into helping him. He's very energetic, but also so serious that if you tease him he'll actually get mad at you. Currently, he lives with Monkey as his roommate. They get along suprisingly well, since they both love old kung fu movies. He also believes that Snake has something to do with his sister's dissappearance and they're this 👌close to getting into an all out brawl with each other that'll probably end in bloodshed.
Tiger:
A 35 year old Wilder woman that's hard working and cunning. She's the first of her family that managed to rise their debt induced name into fame and luxury. She's the wealthiest Wilder of the city, and has her claws into multiple famous casinos and clubs. Cold and brutal, she's stubborn into getting whatever she wants in this city, and her plan to have full control of this city is only stopped by some pest she wants to swat away. But she's all to patient to wait for them to wander into her gaze so she could dig her teeth into them. Snake and Mongoose has caught her attention as of recent, and she's debating on whether she wants these two animals to work as bodyguard and an informant for her by 'persuading' them into a deal that's very beneficial for both of them.
Wolf:
8 year old orphaned little girl that's in the middle of a very dangerous world. She has a mutation on her eyes that's causing her to see the future. Because of this, she's sought out by the Wilders and she's constantly running away from them, only to find herself deeper into the city. She's quiet and very meticulous with her plans, untrusting of those who reach their hand out to her. She also may have some form of autism (one od her special interests is dragons). She currently lives with Bull, and she doesn't know whether he pretends to act as her dad for the sake of it or he wants to use her for her foresight. Either way, she doesn't trust him and she's planning on getting out of his grip.
Bull:
40 year old Wilder that's been playing this city's game since he was 20 years old. A family guy that likes people who are "interesting", and likes to tip things slightly on edge to relieve him of his boredom (this bastard). He's friendly and has that leadership vibe that just makes you want to have one drink with him at least. He just went through a divorce and is currently wanting to get along with his 19 year old daughter that seems to have no interest in inheriting the family and instead wants to pursue her love for art. Currently looking after Wolf who he picked up after, uh, "fired" the last Wilder. He slowly kind of sees her as his adoptive daughter (if only she doesn't run away every 5 damn seconds. He swears he doesn't care about her ability to see the future and wants to spoil her, but she's determined to tear each gift up and throw it back into his face.)

Character Bingo: Ukraine and Canada
Thanks for the ask!!! CanUkr my absolute beloveds
Tumblr media
I think it's a common opinion that Ukraine was done a bit dirty by canon. I think when I write Kat, I do like to make her a little emotional, but I also think she's very headstrong and has a good head on her shoulders. I think she should be allowed to experience being a bit in her feelings and being a little intimidating. She got the typical one-dimensional-side-character treatment and I think exploring these opposite traits in her is worthwhile. I admire her a lot and hold her in high regards. I also project onto her hard because of all of the characters, she's the one I've seen drawn most with a body type similar to mine. I've started writing a Kat centered oneshot about how clothes shopping sucks as a fat person (CanUkr oneshot is also still... in the works. DON'T LOOK AT ME!!!). I think one of my favorite moments from the anime was the scene we got with Ukraine, Hungary, and Liechtenstein going through historical fashion. I love Kateryna and Erzsé's friendship and I'm hungry for more. All in all, I genuinely do think I rank her as my #4 favorite Hetalia character, and the only reason she's not higher is because China and Norway have pretty privilege and pretty privilege only on their side. Some of my favorite pieces of Ukraine artwork include: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
(I know the first art is more centered on Nat, but I literally think about that illustration at least once a week)
Tumblr media
This man is my blorbo in law. The amount of friends/people I interact with who love Matthew on main is concerning. Not because of their love for him but like... If I had a nickel for every person I know who would lay down their life for Matthew Williams, I would have at least four or five nickels, which in theory it isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened several times. Admittedly I know Mattie less intricately than I do Alfred, but BOY am I a slut for FACE fam content, NA bros, and exploring the positive and negative dynamics between them all. I think Canada was done dirty by old fandom, which is something I could also say for Miss Ukraine. Speaking of, CanUkr has been an absolutely beloved ship of mine since ~2015 and I still think about the old Nanihoo art of them, most of which I don't think exists on their deviantart anymore. Anywho, Matthew is simply Just A Guy and I love him for it. Good for him.

i wanna gush about all the lil things I really enjoy from the new Scott Pilgrim anime, but I will wait to talk about specifics because I know it just came out, but it's really good.
I think, ESPECIALLY if you are a person who enjoyed the Scott Pilgrim comic/movie in your youth, you with find a lot to enjoy in the new anime, and maybe feel a lil bit of closure for some of the characters who didn't get enough screentime in the original versions.
although, I will maintain the idea that the original comics are SUPER FREQUENTLY given a bad rep by people who read it and can't fathom the idea that writing a story about a flawed character is not an endorsement of their behavior. The Scott Pilgrim comics are a coming of age story starring 20-somethings who refused to grow up after high school. They are in their 20's, but are still really immature and that the POINT. It's not a story about mature people, and I think it generally does a good job showing that even these fuckups can get their shit together. It's a story about getting your shit together. It ends with Scott getting his shit together, and realizing he was the fuckup! How more blatantly can the comic acknowledge that Scott Pilgrim wasn't READY to date Ramona, because he was the same type of immature as the guys in the League of Evil Exes!
Please acknowledge the intent of the piece, instead of going "umm, actually Scott is a shitty dude, and the comic glorifies shitty dudes". EVERYONE in the comics tells Scott that he is kinda a piece of shit! I wish the movie handled it better, but even THAT clearly shows his friends giving him shit for being a dirtbag. I'm begging you to practice thinking critically about the intent of the media you consume!
(also, anyone who thinks Scott did nothing wrong missed the point even harder. Please read the text)
anyways, go watch the anime. Even if you hate Scott Pilgrim, the animation and music is FANTASTIC, and if you hate Scott's guts as a CHARACTER, I think you will be very into this adaptation.
BELOW STARTS DISCUSSING MILD DIFFERENCES IN THE INTENT OF THE ADAPTATIONS. PLEASE GO WATCH THE ANIME BLIND RATHER THAN READING FURTHER. (also, if you never read the comics/the old movie, perhaps consider those first. I think this anime would make no fucking sense in a vacuum)
The original comics and movie only really bother to give character arcs to Scott and his friends. I think this new show shifting the focus to Ramona and the Exes is really fantastic. They BARELY had any development in the original and this show does all of them wonders (especially Roxie, Matthew, and Lucas). I'm sad to see some of Scott's pals get sidelined as hard as they did in this adaptation (Stephen Stills, my beloved), but it's definitely and really really good choice to finally spend some time letting Ramona mature and have a character arc, rather than letting Scott punch all her problems away.
it's super meta, but I think this new anime simultaneously works as a really good CRITICISM of the surface level story of the older Scott Pilgrim stuff, while also doing a really good job doubling down on things the series did right, and letting us see a whole new side of some of the characters who basically went away immediately in the comics.
I kinda miss the parts of the comic that were very Slice of Life-y. I know it's mostly because of the amount of time they have to tell the story, but the comic was "Real World, but with fantastical rules for comedic effect" and this adaptation went full in on cartoon silliness. The action kicks ass tho, so I definitely think it was the right choice.
anyways, enough rambling. Go watch it.

Now that I finished putting up my translations for chapter 1 of Book 7 over on my translation blog, I wanted to come here and jot down some of my thoughts/observations/questions/ramblings I had while going through everything. Putting this under a read more 'cause it contains spoilers.
Anime Girl Lilia doing the "Oh no, I'm late!" bit was perfect
Malleus said he's been alone since long before he hatched from his egg, which provides credence to the idea that his parents had already passed away before he was born
Lilia said the house he raised Silver in was just a vacant home he came across in the woods. So did he have another home in town that he just chose not to live in or something? The guy's a decorated war hero so I would presume he'd have a proper house in the castle town, so why did he choose to raise baby Silver in a random, abandoned home he found in the middle of the forest?
Squatter Lilia confirmed
I think Lilia's weapon that Sebek found while cleaning out Lilia's closet is going to play an important role later in the story. They went of their way to draw up art for it and it was, like, the main focus of a whole episode so I feel they are drawing attention to it for a reason. The special characteristic of this weapon is that the stone blade is adorned with a magic type of metal that changes shape in response to the owner's magical powers. Maybe Silver will take up the sword from/for his Father later on, and it will transform in some way? Possible future Mulan reference?
I haven't been able to puzzle out if Lilia's beloved acorn bracelet is a reference to anything in particular. I can't think of any Disney movies where something like that was featured. Can you guys think of anything? It's literally just a bunch of nasty old acorns tied together with a piece of string, and Lilia said that even Malleus is jealous that Lilia has it.
It's absolutely and positively way too suspicious that Lilia is trying to leave so quickly and suddenly. I feel like whatever secret he's keeping from anyone is about to come to a head and that's why he's trying to exit stage left so quickly. Or maybe if he were to stay with everyone, it would be putting them at risk somehow? Idk I just don't believe his "i'M olD aNd mY mAgiC raN oUT" story for a moment.
I really don't think Malleus himself realizes his own feelings of loneliness. So often, he will say that he's used to being alone and that he prefers it (and he does indeed often split off from groups in order to do his own thing), but I don't he's conceptualized quite yet that yeah, he gets lonely sometimes. I feel his loneliness, and possibly that of the other Diasomnia crew will be the defining theme of this book (Silver's loneliness in his ephemeral humanity, Lilia's loneliness as a broken ex-soldier, and Sebek's loneliness in not having a place to belong in either side of his family (humans fear his fae-nature, and the fae despise his human blood)).
Loved the shoutout to Elsa with Malleus accidentally scaring others with his ice powers and almost turning his home (the castle) into ice forever. If/when he does attempt to prevent the people around him from leaving him behind, I'm now curious if it will purely be a sleeping curse or if his ice powers will also be involved as well? Maybe a combo of the two?
If Malleus is Elsa, who is his Anna?
One of the "rules" for TWST books is that whoever overblotted in the last book will use their Unique Magic to aid the main characters of the next book in someway. All Idia's UM does is just open and close the gate to the underworld, so I'm a bit concerned how that will come into play later on... Could Lilia's story about wanting to go to the Land of Red Dragons just be a cover up, and his true destination is... idk but somebody gonna end up getting trapped in the underworld or something and it better not be Silver 😡

Alright I think this is the last of the old Metru Uni designs I found so here we go
Tumblr media
So this had been brought up a bit in the fic but not to the point where anything was done with it, but the Mata were the Metru's younger siblings in this AU. I remember Tahu had been mentioned, Lewa and Gali had shown up briefly, and Kopaka was in one of the side stories, but I don't think Onua or Pohatu were in there at all. Pohatu might have been? I don't remember. The plan was to have them all become Toa eventually, too, but not to have secret identities, I think. I remember someone commenting on this on deviantart back in the day being like "ummmm if this is supposed to be like a group photo why do some of them have their eyes closed" and I was like "my guy have you never seen an anime"
Tumblr media
Oh god welcome back to Shojo Legs Time. So I'm not 100% sure why, but I made Takua and Hahli adopted siblings in this for some reason? No idea what the thought process was there. I don't think any of these characters actually appeared in the fic (I don't even think they showed up in any side stories) but I do remember writing stuff about them, it just never got published because it was set to happen way the fuck down the line. You know, Mask of Light stuff. Also for some reason Hahli went to a private girl's school. Not sure what my thinking was there. Love Takua's absolutely vacant expression. No thoughts head empty. Jaller and Takua were Tahu's best friends, and Hahli was one of Gali's best friends.
Tumblr media
So this was around when those "keep ___ and carry on" things were popular and I did steal this one directly from a Professor Layton advertisement, but also in my defense Nuparu would love Professor Layton games so there. I think the idea was that Hewkii was into just like All Sports so he'd always be seen doing different sports every time we saw him. Not that either of them ever showed up in the fic. The idea was that (most of) the Inika were the Mata's best friends, so Nuparu was Onua's best friend and Hewkii was Pohatu's, which was all well and good but the fic was focused on the Metru so they never got to do anything lmao.
Tumblr media
Yes Macku's last name was a Yugioh reference :P She and Hahli were Gali's besties, Kopeke was Matoro's only friend, and Ehrye was the kid who bullied Matoro in school. The only one who showed up in the fic itself was Ehrye because he did have a minorly important role, but also Macku got to be in a side story that was about her and Hewkii because of course it was
Tumblr media
Okay so here are some of the Metru's friends. Kapura never showed up proper, but Vakama made reference to him, and it was generally accepted that he was pretty much Vakama's only friend before college. I think the idea was he was on the track team lol. Vhisola was obviously Nokama's best friend and actually DID show up in the fic itself, but is such a massive case of wasted potential that it just makes me sad. She should've been Nokama's roommate. Kongu was Matau's best friend, and I think they were in a band together in high school before Matau went to college. He is currently hanging around with Tamaru and Lewa, all of whom got like 30 seconds of fame in the fic. Hafu was Onewa's friend from high school, and also showed up for a bit in the fic, but mostly just to introduce Ahkmou, who I don't think I ever drew. Whoops. Kapura really does just look like A Guy here and I love that for him.

Alright so Matoro was Nuju and Kopaka's younger brother, which I think makes him the youngest character in the fic? Not sure. He had a part time job at a pet store, because of course he did. Again only showed up in a side story, but Nuju talked about him a fair bit. Ihu was in one (1) side story where we learned that he was Nuju's only friend pre-college but that he'd died a while before they graduated high school. So. Yeah. Onepu and Taipu were twins and Whenua's friends, but they did not show up at all nor were they even mentioned I don't think. Sorry guys. Taipu my beloved I can't believe I abandoned you like this

I'll be honest I have no idea what I was going for here. This is what I thought was the height of fashion in 2011. Kiina was an international student and also Nokama's roommate for some reason and I'm still mad that I did that instead of making Vhisola an actual character aaaaaaah Kiina I love you but you have no business being here I'm sorry
That's it for designs, maybe one day I'll throw the chapter and a half of manga that I made on here somewhere, thank you for coming with me on this journey of self-rediscovery

I used to like him before back in January, but after listening to the soundtrack of this movie again, I frickin fell in LOVE
The obsession got so bad that I’m now researching Romani history and culture, watching those “the making of (movie name)” videos, interviews (which there are SO FEW OF) of the VAs or Alan Menken, the composer of the soundtrack
I want to know everything when I like a character lol
I actually have more, but it already feels weirdly personal to confess some of them so thank god that this is the silly corner :]
SCARED TO SEND IN BUT HERE WE GO
Mo need to fear this is a no judgement zone! Also I lost my right to judge people when I wrote mpreg a few weeks ago/lh
Rubs hands
The first two!! Obligatory "I've never gotten too deep into pokemon and the only game I've played start to finish is shield, and I'm like. Partway through brilliant diamond" soooooo! I know nothing about the personalities of these two so we're going off of looks!! And I say!
Valid!
Brassius gives off either old and exhausted punk or old exhausted gay artist but those two can overlap!
Hassel Looks yummy I love me a good longhaired blonde man AND he looks a little on the older side? YUMMY!!! He looks like he'd either he a grade A douchebag rich guy or a total sweetheart
Larry! Hey I know you I saw your dick on Twitter!!!/ref mo but real talk I can get the appeal! I already know that's hes a tired working man but that's about all I know!! Hes valid, I'd give him a big ol kith
Milori looks interesting! I don't know wheres hes from so once more we rely off of looks! He looks vaguely like a broken man . I can fix him. Valid!!!
Pentious is valid but I'm biased because I also had a crush on the character!! Pathetic men are just so silly!! Probably also has my favorite design of the entire show!!
Lucifer is also valid I can see the vision!! Caring but mentally I'll man who distances himself for one reason or another despite deeply wanting a connection my BELOVED
Grillby also had a choke hold on me when I was into undertale!! I'm so sad that there werent many grillby x reader fics out there- if I was still balls deep into undertale and deltarune like I used to be I'd 100% give writing the characters a shot but unfortunately I doubt I ever will <\3 unrelated theres a surprising amount of buff bara art of him
Gaster!! I can also get behind!! Mysterious creature that hardly has any lore iirc, fandom either portrayed him as a mad evil scientist or a loving father to sans and papyrus, at least with my experience with the fandom.. valid!!
I never watched inside job but I've heard good things about it! Brett looks like a sweetie, so I can understand the appeal! He looks so silly.. just a guy.. valid
Lukas!! It's been so long since I've heard someone talk about MCSM! Obligatory I dont remember much of Lukas, just that he was kind of an ass in the beginning I think.. but I can see the appeal! I was more of a ivor girlie
Surprisingly I have not seen lackadaisy yet! Surprising I know, since I'm huge fans of other indie animations on youtube!! Going off looks I can see the appeal, he gives old grumpy grandpa vibes but I could be totally off! I like his eyebrows :3
Kinger is another valid but again I might be biased because hes my baby girl- cant wait to see more of him in future episodes especially since hes hardly had any screen time so far <\3 he seems so sweet :(
Adam!! I can see the appeal again but his personality isnt really for me <\3 hes valid though!!
AND CLOPIN! It's been so so so long since I've seen the movies but omfg I remember I loved him a lot! Yummy design as well as a nice personality I wish we got more of him <\3 VALID VALID VALID
