Little analysis⬇️

I don't think we talk enough about how manipulative Kirumi can be. When she was considered the main suspect, she began to lie, emphasizing that she always valued the needs of others more than her own. This is partly true, but in that situation she was not caring about THEM, but about other people. And in order to remove suspicion from herself (and make everyone vote incorrectly), she used any methods. She even tried to evoke pity by crying. But the dirtiest method she used was that she used Kaede's wish to convince them that she would never try to deceive them. She knew that this wish became a symbol of hope for the group, she knew that Kaede was very important to Shuichi, she knew that it was still very difficult for him to reveal the truth. But she used it to her advantage.

When she was found out and already chosen as the killer, Kirumi tried to force everyone to fight Monokuma for her (which would inevitably lead to someone's death), causing everyone to feel guilty towards the entire country for which she was responsible. And it almost worked.

But Kaito brought everyone to their senses with his speech that there is no such thing as the “price of life.” They can't just give their lives because "it's would be better that way". Their lives matter. " Life's purpose is to be lived". He firmly stated that he wanted to live, which was actually a very brave act, because people could've called him an egoist for putting his life before the lives of an entire nation. However, he was supported by... Kokichi. He brought the group's attention to what Kirumi was actually trying to do. He revealed that she planned to use them to escape. And she confirmed that he was right with her words.

Also how different her behavior was before this from how aggressive she becomes when she sees that her tactics didn't work (and at a couple of other points during the class trial when she was just starting to get accused).

I'm NOT trying to make her out to be a villain and say she's bad. But I don't like how this imperfect side of her character is often ignored. She is often positioned only as a selfless servant, which in my opinion is wrong. I DO NOT deny her selfless devotion, but I believe that the trial brought out another side of her. She really wanted to survive. She really wanted to get out. I believe that one of the reasons of her breakdown was due to the fact that she broke under the pressure of all the responsibility that was placed on her.

In the official manga, Kiyo analogizes their situation to a tradition called "jincan", where many poisonous insects are sealed in a jar and they begin to devour each other until only one insect remains. Kirumi reasons with him that if any being sees a chance to get out of the hell they are locked in, they will do anything to achieve this goal.

I love how Danganronpa often defies obvious expectations. Like, you expect Kirumi to become a killer because someone will use her and she won't be able to refuse because of her desire to serve. But in reality, she almost sacrificed the lives of the entire group in order to get out herself.

In conclusion, I think it is important to recognize Kirumi not only as a obedient Ultimate Servant, but also as a girl who desperately wants to live, who is ready to do ANYTHING to get out. She is ready to go to great lengths if necessary to achieve this goal.

Many of Kirumi's moments have a theme of surviving no matter what: her behavior at the Class Trial (the fact that she initially tried to frame Himiko, who can not stand up for herself), her manipulation at the end of the trial, her breakdown before her execution, execution itself, where she tries to escape so desperately that she climbs up a thorny vine through a tunnel, not stopping even when circular saws appear from the walls (her escape attempt was clearly part of the execution, Monokuma knew what she will try to do and made sure to cause her as much despair as possible, giving her hope of getting out).

She wanted to get out not only to continue to serve, but also because she just wanted to survive. She wanted to do something not only for the sake of others, but also for her own sake. Perhaps for the first time in her life.

I love seeing complex characters who have many sides and flaws. So I find it strange to see that sometimes Kirumi is only described as a obedient servant. She is so much more than that. This is exactly what I love about Kirumi, what makes her so interesting.

So in the episode 'Bad Tina' Zeke mentions that his dads girlfriend just had a baby, assuming that the dads gf he talks about in early seasons is Cheryl his step mom and that the father of that baby is Zekes dad we can also assume that Zeke has a very young half sibling. And I did go ahead and assume all those things so this is Zekes baby sister Cherish (Cherry for short).

Im gonna talk some more about her under the cut bc im sure that will devolve into infodumping zeke lore/headcanons and i dont want anyone to get stuck scrolling past a wall of text

Interestingly she's the only oc i have that's part of a different piece of media rather than one of my own projects.

She's a spunky little toddler for sure she's always got tons of energy, she's extremely confident and fearless constantly running off when she sees something that excites her or to ask strangers questions. She has a big sweet tooth but also loves spicy foods, off the top of my head I don't think its been discussed in canon where Zeke is from originally but recently I've been thinking of him and his bio mom as being from louisiana (projection on my part my mom is from louisiana and bc I like Zeke as a chef and the food there is soo good) I love the idea that his mom taught him to cook the local dishes and that he makes them for Cherry. She dresses in a chaotic mix of her own love of bright, clashing rainbow colors and dingey hand-me-downs from Zekes childhood and from their other cousins. I definitely think Zeke has adhd and Cherry does as well.

I tend to draw her/think of her around age 2 1/2- 3 (so when zeke is 16ish) but in canon time she'd still be a newborn. I love the idea of Zeke with a young sibling he's portrayed in the show as being super caring, protective of and loyal to the people be cares about, and good with younger kids all of which read as big brother qualities to me and he's also mentioned wanting siblings hes closer too. (He mentioned having a 44 year old brother in Presto Tina-o but also has said his bio mom was pregnant with him at her prom which is probably just a continuity error with his throway lines but taken at face value makes his dad out to be a gross old creep which is my personal headcanon idk if there's anyone out there who are big fans of Zeke's dad and step mom but my headcanons do not paint them in a nice light so beware of that)

Based on pretty much everything Zeke has ever said about his family I get the impression that the adults in his life are pretty neglectful and irresponsible and definitely not super present (he rarely ever speaks about his dad I hc him having a job that keeps him away from the family most of the time probably something like trucking and Zeke has mentioned Cheryl being an alcoholic I also hc her as much younger than the dad maybe she's a bartender? I definitely see her having a nightlife kind of job also for reference picture her as a redhead with blue eyes and a lot of tattoos that's where cherry gets her eyes and freckles)

I believe with Cherry a lot of parenting responsibilities would be placed on Zeke and while i think he has qualities that are really well suited to that the parentification of an older sibling is not ok and would negatively impact him, I like the idea of him applying for a job at Bob's Burgers bc he needs a more stable way to provide financially than doing odd jobs around town and not only getting a job but also getting a support system and adults who care about him and his sister and their wellbeing. I think Bob would take Zeke under his wing and help him make himself and his education a priority (the belchers helping out with Cherry when they can so he can focus more on school and extra curriculars) and help him get into a culinary school after graduation. Linda would fall completely in love with her (we know how much she loves babies) and basically treat Cherry like she's her own grandbaby. They all babysit her when needed but Louise is her favorite babysitter and maybe person also she really looks up to Louise and likes to imitate her fashion style and the way she speaks, Louise would pretend that this annoys her but not so secretly finds it adorable.

Anyways clearly i could go on and on but ill just cut myself off there hope y'all like her!

Obon Week Missions

While at Lake Toya, I decided to set myself some goals (or missions, as I'm calling them) for the upcoming week off because I do not want to just spend it rotting in front of my laptop. I want to feel like I achieved stuff, but I also want to take time to relax and refresh so I don't go back to work already feeling burned out again. So, here are my missions!

Genesis and Sephiroth have never really liked touch, each for their own reasons. Still, they desperately want it, and are inevitably drawn into each other’s arms by the strings of fate (the author’s whims) and learn to enjoy it.

He was too sensual a child—he liked to experience everything with all of himself, all the attention and meaning he could wring out of any moment—for anything even slightly resembling intimacy of any kind to be taken lightly, touch not least of all, so the fact that he felt trapped into it bothered him more than he knew how to express.

The mood has possessed me to write Genesis pov again (though this is a twoshot and the next chap will be seph pov) so have this nice touch-starved fic that randomly flowed out of my mind yippee

Pharma had always dreamed of being one of those mecha, you know, the kinds that go to grand theater shows and masquerade balls and galas; he was made to be dramatic. Day in and day out it was logic and procedures and direction. He was a forged medic, very skilled at his craft, but he wanted mystery and allure in his life. At night he was able to listen to music, closing his optics and pretending he was lounging in a velvet VIP theater box seat, high above the commoners while indulging in the sweet arts of performance and entertainment.

Pharma sipped on deep red engex, enjoying the peace of his dark office. It was after hours, all the other medics had gone to their quarters for the night. Soon, he heard those familiar stomping pede-steps approaching. He continued nursing his drink, smirking when Tarn opened his unlocked office door.

“Here for your T-cogs?” Pharma sneered. Tarn cleared his throat.

“Actually, I had another request of you.” Pharma rolled his eyes. Tarn ignored it and continued. “Would you be willing to join me for a night?” Pharma hesitated.

“A night of what?”

“It’d be a surprise…” Pharma cackled.

“Hold on, you think I’d just…go?! With the terrifying leader of the DJD without some sort of plan?”

“I assumed, since you’re a flier frame, that you’d be more inclined to act upon impuls-”

“Of course I’ll go!” He snapped. Pharma muttered under his breath as he finished his drink. “Do I look like a square to you? No? Anyway, what should I bring…” Tarn paused for a minute.

“Nothing, unless you have a favorite accessory or other…polish you like to wear out. I’ll give you a few minutes.”

Pharma just opened a drawer and put on magnetic clips to his audials, and used a pocket polish for the corners of his optics and lips.

“No need, let’s go.”

Once they arrived at the location of Tarn’s choosing, the DJD’s leader’s air completely changed. First, he walked over to the side of the transport to open the door for Pharma. Pharma cautiously stepped out, eyeing Tarn suspiciously. After Pharma stepped out of the vehicle, Tarn took Pharma’s arm and servo, walking along with him, clawing servo on the flier's waist. Pharma blushed.

“I-is this some sort of trick?”

Tarn ignored him. They rounded the street corner, exposing them to a grand old building fit with statue-topped columns. It was obviously a theater hall meant to mimic old Cybertronian life. Pharma turned to Tarn in shock.

“How’d you-”

“I saw your collection of tapes and music, figured this would be something you would enjoy…” Pharma was speechless.

“A-are we going to a real show?” Tarn smiled with his eyes and just continued walking down the street, leading the medic. Tarn picked up their tickets at the entrance; Pharma admired the art around the venue hall. 

“You know, I would've put on some better polish on if I'd known.” Pharma jested. Tarn traced the jet’s jawline with a thumb and forefinger admiringly.

“Oh, but I think you always look elegant…natural beauty is very rare.” He blushed again, shaking his helm out of the touch. The DJD leader put his servo guidingly on Pharma’s waist again; he leaned into the hold this time.

Tarn had not only bought them the late night performance tickets, but also seats in the VIP box. Pharma was shocked at how the tank seemed to read his mind, even when he was not around (or, maybe he was…he didn’t dwell on it). Still in awe of the scene, the jet let himself be guided into one of the plush benches, settling into the sound of the orchestra. Tarn watched his face; Pharma’s optics were wide, darting around, studying the architecture and categorizing all the historical pieces and art forms and musical numbers played. 

Throughout the show Pharma slowly started to lean into the leader more, but he never looked up at him. Tarn did his best to understand the show, but to be honest it really wasn’t in his style. He’d only planned this just to spend time with the medic.

Of course, on the way back Pharma did his best to explain his analysis of the story and the value of the original writing. Once they were back at Pharma’s work, the leader uncharacteristically made sure he made it inside safely; he waited at the doorstep for an extra moment.

“Sorry, I almost forgot…thank you. I really enjoyed…uh…whatever tonight was.” Pharma said sheepishly, opposite of his passionate rant earlier.

“What do you think it was?” Tarn rumbled. Pharma vented sharply.

“Oh…well. Fine, it was a ‘date’ ok. Are you happy with that?”

The leader nodded slightly. Pharma couldn't tell if he was blushing under the mask or not, but his body-language showed it was likely. The jet gestured to Tarn to come closer. He pulled the other’s helm down by the side of the mask, lifting the bottom just slightly up. He could feel Tarn's venting still when he kissed those scarred lips, even if it was just for a second.

“Goodnight, Tarn.” The tank adjusted his mask, eye’s still wide in surprise at the show of affection. Tarn cleared his vocalizer.

“Yes…goodnight – !”

The door shut loudly in his face.

Oh it’s absolutely WILD to me, especially because I cannot imagine Irving would get along with any of them. He’d appreciate their devotion to the game, sure—no problem with them whining about reassignments, so less work for him—but… they’re still The Scrybes From Inscryption. He’d get annoyed with Magnificus’s insistence on “perfection” (which, in Irving’s eyes, is completely inconsequential but he knows better than to tell Magnificus he doesn’t know what he’s talking about), frustrated with Leshy’s pedantic mannerisms (though at least Leshy keeps to himself), irked by P03’s not-so-hidden intent to bring all of Inscryption somewhere else beyond the Gameworks, and Grimora… honestly I think he’d just find Grimora unnerving.

The James Cobb situation must have happened pretty early on in Inscryption’s development though—I can’t imagine that Irving would be able to send anyone in or out once the floppy disk had been buried (not to mention that Leshy had taken over during that point, putting yet another barrier in addition to the several feet of dirt).

Inscryption to me seems like the one corner of the Gameworks universe that no one really wants to talk about, they’ve just heard absolutely bonkers rumors about the people there and have to suppress a shudder. Except the rumors are 100% true and oftentimes worse because no one in Inscryption can behave.

if i may ask, what's your writing process like for when you create a story ?

Bad and weird. Mostly I just think about it a lot, scribble down a few basic essential plot skeleton things, and then go over them and fill them in. And I do that multiple times on occasion when I’ve got more ideas. I’ve also got like 6 docs for loose stitches. One is the actual script, one’s an outline/plot skeleton, one is backstory & world building notes, one is like character speaking quirks or something- idk I’ve lost count at this point I really only refer to like three of them

Also, unless it’s like a short comic or one shot story, I don’t finish the script. If I waited to finish loose stitches script before I started it I’d never have started at all. Already, a bunch of stuff that’s supposed to go down in part 2 & 3 have been altered since I started drawing loose stitches 2 years ago. Partially because I wasn’t sure where things would go and partially because I’ve gotten a better hold on the characters & their backstories & motives since then which changes their arcs a bit. I still don’t know how loose stitches is gonna end, but I’m getting a better idea if it every day and I just write down one potential ending.

I picked up something interesting from the author of the webcomic Sakana, which is that I need to leave space in the script for me to improvise stuff so im not horribly bored. For me, a lot of stuff is vague. I make up a lot of character designs nearly on the spot, and I allow myself to change shit around so long as the main beats are hit on. It’s all good.

Also, when it comes to comics, your script is supposed to be written however you want. Any font any format as long as it’s good for you. Mine is prose-like but very informal and with interjections to remind me of stuff (character is holding x or puts y thing down, character makes a certain face, a description of a visual I don’t want to forget)

As for the writing side of things outside of comic scripting, it’s basically the same. Write a skeleton and fill it in. Main difference is that the prose are way more formal. I really don’t consider myself a writer, even though most of my art includes dialog and storytelling. Guess I don’t think I’m good enough at writing yet? Idk. It’s probably because I consider my sister The Writer in our family. Anyway hope that’s what you wanted.

okay I was going to keep rambling in the tags after reblogging the drawing Merlin drew, but this is actually somewhat more of a thing so I’m making it its own post

Since Reborn is sprite-based, specifically sharing the styles of Generation III or IV Pokémon sprites for the most part, most characters don’t actually exist in a lot of detail. The VS sprites before battles can be useful for their faces and hair, and the Trainer sprites are good for giving an overall sense of the outfit, but other than that there isn’t really that much to go off of for most of the cast.

As a result, I always really like seeing the different ways that people interpret characters’ outfits, and Luna’s is a key example of this, because the spritework makes it seem quite simple but she definitely seems like the sort of girl who would wear much more complex/decorated clothes. She is the princess of the castle, after all! So, because of that, you get lots of different variations in detail depending on who’s drawing her, and I just think that’s really neat ^-^

(Saying this, Luna is one of a few characters who does actually have an example of more “official” art - namely, her wallpaper! Since this is available for download on the same website you get Reborn itself from, it definitely feels like it’s meant to be taken as her official appearance to some extent. So that, at least, is nice to have!!)
